This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen powered by Nova Insurance Services. Hey sure, your most prized possessions, Katie z R Two SAD and iHeart Radio Station. They Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to Y on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera alongside partner Jay Gonzos. It is going to be a day today. We're gonna talk a lot about the Derby coming up on Saturday,

Oakley and otherwise and the main event in Kentucky. But first, there's been some big news coming out of the University of Very well, some highly unfortunate news. UM. Stuff to think about and talk about, UM and the kinds of things that you really don't want to have to talk about, but when they come around, you have to talk about. Right, I'm gonna go ahead and you tell them, I'm gonna have to ask you a question.

Okay. Well, the first thing it's come out since our since our show last night yesterday, that apparently not apparently, that Jade delora Um was arrested and pleaded guilty as a juvenile to a sexual assault that occurred in Hawaii. UH high school students. He was a high school student. He was involved in it with another with a teammate of his on a teenage girl. UH in Hawaii. We we don't you know, we won't go into all the details other than to say that he pleaded guilty along with the other the

other individual, of sexual assault on this on the on the victim. Um. He it was. It was adjudicated at the juvenal court level. He apparently did not do any jail time. Um he's according to UH David Kelly from Channel four, who's been on this all day, he's not having to he's not having to register as a sex offender. And so the case is done. Now what's come out is that Delora and his family, Emily had to pay a settlement in a civil lawsuit to the girl and her family.

And that's what's kind of hit the news. A newspaper out of Hawaii UH ran with this yesterday. So it's come out something that none of us knew. That Jade Delora was convicted of a sexual assault before he got here, right, So the question is what now? Well, and before he got here, he was somewhere else right Washington first, and I don't know if they knew anything about this, right, But let means there's so many things.

Let me say this before we start unraveling, because you know there's all the questions, right, well, what about Jade Delora and what about the football team? What about this? And what about that? Well, the first thing we need to say, what about we need to say what about the victim? Okay, wait wait first, first, go ahead and tell them what you tried to do today. Uh through So I just I just reached out to the event said, are you know, are we going to

get a statement from Jed or someone in the athletic department? And I've got no response to that. So so we have we have try that and I know multiple media I have also tried to get a comment or a statement and the UFA hasn't responded. And we'll get to all that in a minute. I kind of just wanted to start there because the least you did some betting, which is beyond I thought. But let me let me say this because when these things happen, it always becomes about the should we say the celebrity,

right, the Brandon Miller at at Alabama? The basketball player, uh, you know, the basketball players from Alabama who are involved in that shooting.

The first thing it has to be about is the victim. And so I just wanted to make sure I say that because what you hope and what you want is that whatever happens to Jayden Delora and this other player he's at Wisconsin, that you know, all considerations are being made for the victim that they have been in you know, since this occurred back in twenty eighteen, and that they will continue to be for the rest of her life. So just for clarity, because you've been forward a little bit than me, a

lot more than me. Uh, they settled the civil civil monsters, so that kind of now that he has money, right and apparently lots of it, Yeah, that he was able to pay you or decided just to pay and say, Okay, well she's hand from the whole not the whole thing, but trying to move forward to Yeah, and look, and an amount of money is gonna make it right with this with this victim. Okay,

she's got to live with this for the rest of her life. So all I'm saying is that before we talk about anything as to how Jaden Delora is gonna handle us, how are you by's gonna handle this. We just have to make sure that we say, we got to make sure that the victim is first and foremost in all of this. So I just wanted to say that, Look, I got two daughters, but you don't need to have two daughters to understand, you know, what this can do to a victim

like this girl. So I just want to say, let's make sure that we don't, you know, take our eye off the ball about what's most important here, which is the victim. Okay, right without without So now we've said that, so a lot to go through. Um, did Jed know this before he got there? Got here? Right? Because he didn't, didn't matter where Washington state, he was none of his business by that time. But when he got here, did he know any of this? Yeah? Uh? Did? I didn't say yep, that they knew.

I'm just saying that's that's that's that's a major question in a situation, right, and that's the beginning of it. It's okay, if he did, that's an issue. If he didn't, Okay, so now what does he do? Right? Maybe he says nothing, Yeah, maybe he says suspension. Maybe nothing. I mean, what do you do that that's the whole thing thing. Okay, there's two scenarios. Did they know or didn't they

know? Sure, okay. If they did know, then they have to say they have to say why it was they were okay to bring him to the university. They have to answer that. And they can't say it's none of our business or they can't hide behind you know, student confidentiality any of that. They have to say, we knew about it and this is this was our thought process and going ahead and bringing him to the University of Arizona. Jo, Jay, You've gonna run a long time. Do you know

what they're gonna say that. They're not gonna say. No, they absolutely have to escape. No, Hey, they can't hide behind the lawn. I'm with you. I'm with you, somebody with you. But I don't even say will somebody will, Well, somebody will go out there and do a Freedom of Information Act for all in emails and anything related. Oh sure, this okay, and my parents needs to be an answer. My point is they've been very good in stifling the media for the last fourteen years since

Greggburnon showed up here. Everything's been kind of on the on, the on, the under underneath if you will, uh, no, no comment, no comment. We don't we're not talking about that, blah blah blah. So my my, I'm telling you. I'm telling you this fact that that's what they're going to try to do. Whether somebody goes in and tries to FOI this or whatever, freedom of information, more power to you. Wow. If i'm if I'm their PR guy, and I'm not talking about you

know, matt a university, I'm talking about the university public relation. They need to They need to advise the athletic department that they need to say something because the community deserves that, well, the faculty deserves that, you know. I mean, they've just went through this thing with the shooting on campus, right, shooting that all this stuff was going on. Don't forget or wasn't going on, don't forget the track track right, So there has to

be an answer to that. They can't. They can't stonewall this, I don't believe. And to go to that, I think the highest authority they may try to at a point, I don't think they should be allowed to know. I don't. I love the university, I love the athletic department, you know that. But I'm speaking from the standpoint now of of a journalist and the community member. It says this is how this thing needs to

be handled. So if they did know, then we need an explanation as to what went in the decision process to allow Jayden Delord to come play at the University of Arizona. And look, for all I know, the Laura may have gone through whatever measures needed to be gone through as a part of whatever and had it right. Did he have to go to some some treatment or some uh you know, some psychological whatever whatever you know, to kind

of get this out of him? Okay, you hope that something like that occurred as well, that it wasn't just as simple as what we're reading is that there was a written apology that was part of why he didn't go down. There was more to it than that. Sure, this happened four years ago, twenty eighteen. Okay, so it seems a long time ago, but it's really not. Now. Arizona is part of it because of the circumstances. Um, we'll see how they handle it in the next coming days,

because something will have to be done. I don't I'm not here to argue with you. I totally agree with you, but having dealt with them for the last And let me say this because I know you asked me if we had had all sports Tucson, and me personally had asked no. And I say this because I've no longer real journalist if that mean a real journalists there you are? No, no, no, no. The Citizen closed fourteen years ago. I kind of stopped there. Uh, I'm in this

business now. We don't chase things down. We don't, we don't you know, we don't get into that rock. And I'm not gonna I'm not gonna go do a freedom of everything. I'm relying on the other media to come up with this stuff. Right in that sense, yes, But in the general sense, I think you and are continue to be you and I continue to be journalist from the standpoint that we want to find out Oh sure, sure, but we're not pursuing it. We're not pursuing That's my point.

And I would have if this if I was the paper still open and they were paying my bills, I would do it tomorrow. But it's not so I'm not going to. Uh and then our Sports two Sun is not that type of publication. Uh. The record is there was only day to start, right, story and the and the TV station. That's what they're there, and they're they're you know that they're doing it. That they're doing they're doing it. So we're here to talk about it, right, and

that's what we'll be doing. Right is it? Right? Is wrong? I don't know anymore? Jay, This is this is the funny thing about it. I don't have any ties to you they outside of me covering them and doing what I do. But I'm almost turning into you in terms of being a fan hoping that they do will and it's just a Smith's jail, you know. You know, I'm very unbiased on but but I can see they're gonna have problems with nil across the board. They just are because you

see it and you say, I'm saying they're gonna need help. But I've said this all the week too, whatever it is, and I'm thinking they have issues. Yeah, But but in this, in this situation, you know, keeping it to this situation, is that what I as a fan, as an alumnus of the universe of Arizona, as a member of this community, as the father of two daughters, right, yeah, all I want. It's not just answered but I want Arizona to do the right thing.

Okay, we don't know. I don't know the way entirely know what that is. Okay, because I was saying, either they knew and I just went through you know, yeah, yeah, or they didn't know, and which guess if they didn't know, why didn't you know? Yeah? Why didn't you know? It's gonna happen? Moving forward? Right? So? You know, Yeah, I've been getting asked, what are you gonna stand on the show? What do you can say on the show? What do you say on the show? I wasn't sure what I was gonna stand

that show. It's just kind of happened. I said the same. We didn't talk about it. We didn't talk about this is an ad lib type of this first time you and I are talking about, Yes, except that I asked you if you had upon it on my way over here is where I kind of came up with you. But let me ask you. Let me ask you something, because I have this problem with fans in general. Okay, let's assume for a second they knew or whatever. Are you going

to cheer for now that you know? Are you gonna cheer for him? Any differently? Because you know Arizona fans. Um, it's like Barry Bonds, right, I did you win? They're happy there, you're you can get away with there, we go with it. If you're a quarterback, you're Barry Bonds who doesn't did his thing back there? Uh the only people cheering for him with San Francisco Giant people, but he else hated the guy. So are you going to be a fan of him? I don't know.

Here's what I'm gonna say. Is that your answer? No, that's and that's a great answer. Now you don't know. I don't know. I don't know. That's a great answer. I don't But here's what I'm gonna say. And I thought it. I came up with this on the way in because I was really trying to say, okay, you you can't be wishy washy on this. Okay was my thought. I can't don't disagree, Yeah, I can't. You know. We So on the way over here, I thought, okay, let's break, let's take out who Jane

Delora is. We don't you know. I don't know him from SCHMO. I mean I've talked to him in press conference. I don't know Jane Delora Okay, But where I went was if this happened today, if or any other player was busted for sexual assault to the point where it was certain that it occurred, he was guilty. Okay, what would the you have a do they kick him off the team? Do you hope you'd hope that they would over the How can I say this will if you're talking to sexual assault,

I don't know any sexual assault. I don't know that because you can get a d UI, you can you can steal a candy bar. Right, those are things that you know nobody was really hurt. But you commit a sexual assault, a murder, you know, something like that, that's almost automatic rounds to be kicked off the team. I don't distribete with what they should do, and it's not that they do doing a passional note crickets. I won't say it online, but yes, right, wouldn't wouldn't he

be kicked off the team. And we also have something that we're going to talk about. We can't talk about because we're gonna have Richard Ing from three fifteen, but the basketball team. Right, we'll get into the whole basketball team issue because we've got another issue there. But on this one, Steve. I just think that. Now, the question is if they knew and they let him come to the team knowing that this had occurred, right, knowing that this had occurred, then can you kick him off the team?

Now? Yeah? Yeah, right, so I don't want to, Like I said, yeah, there's issues after you obey the We don't know, we knew what the track team, right, It took took a lot to get through that. I'm glad I'm not the ad. I'm glad I'm not the football coach or the president of the university because it was just and guess what, he's already taking a lot of heat, taking some heat over some other stuff on campus. Yeah. So yeah, so I don't know.

Um, I don't know what the answer is. We're not gonna have the I don't know, but well, you know, well look we gotta, we gotta. We got two hours, you know, we got some horse racing stuff to talk about, and we'll continue this. We'll continue this. Please call us. I've got a long Facebook. I don't know if you're reading my Facebook. Some dudes all over it says why is this gonna come? Or no, no, they didn't know about Jaden? What? Yeah, I mean, how do you not know? Ye? Yeah, all

right, um. Richard ang, our resident horse racing guru uh covers the West Coast tracks and we always get him before the the Triple Crown races. He's coming on. This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Hey, welcome back to I'm About here a Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera. He's jakens Olsen. Now in the phone, we have our guy, Richard Ian from Las Vegas, brisone and other websites. How are you, Richard? Oh, happy to be on again a

year from last year. I know, rich strike kind of took us off the rails last year. Maybe we can hit the target. The bulls eye was a dark today. Yeah, he took everybody off the rail. That was That was bad. Strike. Winning a right is almost going to live with you for a month with you. But this must be like Christmas for you this next couple of days. Oh yeah, yeah, for a couple

of reasons. One is, you know I wrote a book called Betting on horse Racing for Dummies, the second edition, and this is the most popular time of the year for sales because so many newcomers have their eyeballs on horse racing. That don't don't normally do it the other you know, fifty one weeks of the year. So a lot of newcomers, a lot of recreational players are following Churchill and the Derby and the Oaks. So I do sell more books and I think it's a good process to get people started in horse

racing to you know, to generate more interest. And then as far as the handicapping, I mean, the two cards on Friday and Saturday, Churchill are as good as you're going to see all year outside of the Breeders Cup. So these are great cards to bed into if you're you know, a regular horse player. So it is there. I know there's various favorites and whatnot, but sometimes there's like a horse that stands out above everybody, but he says that's the one. It doesn't seem like we're in that kind of

situation this year. Well, for the Kentucky Derby, it's definitely pretty wild. I think the favorite, and a pretty good favorite, is going to be a horse called Forte from a trainer, Todd Pletcher. But it's amazing how many people are trying to downplay him and go in another direction. Actually, I'm in the same boat, but the favorite is going to be Forte.

He's done nothing wrong. He deserves to be favored. But I think one of the reasons people are trying to poke holes in his boat is the fact that he's just not that fast in a sense that he looks like he's dominant. He doesn't look dominant like American Pharaoh or Justify or one of those type of horses. He's good, certainly's good enough to win, but he doesn't look overwhelming. So that's why people are trying to look at some other horses too, right there. Yeah, that's the point I was making.

There isn't like an overwhelming favorite. There's a favorite, but not somebody that everybody say that's the one, no doubt about it. Yeah, that's that's That's what I was trying to point out, is that there's nobody who's going to be like two to one, but this horses two to one, that'll be I'll be shocked. Well, the fact that he's going to be more like three to one or seven to two. The fact that there's twenty horses, and there's always twenty horses and it's a crowded field. Styles make the

fight obviously here, Uh does he sit. Do they sit in the good spots? Because if they're not um out, you know, front runners, or they got to be you know, back runners or late writer arrivals. You picked somebody other than forte, what does he do? Well, I'll let the cat out of the bag right off the bad. Here the horse that I picked to when the Kentucky Derby's number seventeen, Derma Sodogaki. He's a Japanese horse. His prep race. He won the UAE Derby in Mayden

and I was on five or six weeks ago. A lot of people are actually throwing this horse out, fellas, because there's a statistical negative about the UAE Derby. They have produced eighteen Kentucky Derby starters none of them. Zero of those eighteen have hit the board, meaning first, second, or third. So you know, that's a pretty big hill to climb. But you know, but when I saw this horse, you know, let me give

a little background to myself. Usually I liked the I like futures betting, and I always try to find one or two horses to bet in the future

book in the for the Kentucky Derby. I was lucky enough to have justify the year that he won at one hundred to one, and I was looking for another future book bet, and by the end of March, I hadn't be any horse Fellas, And then I saw this UAE Derby, and I was so impressed by Dermo Sartakaki that the next morning I went down to one of the race books in town here that offered a future book and I pump

some money down to the hundred to one. So he's the only horse I have in the future book, but I got a great price on him. He's probably going to be around ten to one. But you know, an angle for liking him, Fellas. Outside of that is the fact that Japanese horses have been running very well internationally, whether it's England, France, Germany, the United States. So I think it's only a matter of time before

one of them breaks through and wins a race like this. With twenty horses like this in a race, are you able to kind of project what it's going to look like. You know who's going to be out front and where horses have to come from where you know with each individual horse to kind of get a sense of this is what their run is going to be like if they get this run, they win. If they don't get that run, they don't. I mean, there's so many horses you're trying to figure out

what's going to happen. That is a great question, and certainly one part of the essence of handicapping is when I look at any race, whether it's the third race on Friday at Santa Anita or whatever, the first thing I do is I try to one identify the favorite and then try to identify if he's a good favorite or in quote a bad favorite meaning he's vulnerable. And two is I kind of break the field down as to the running styles. So that's something you do with any race. Twenty horses makes it a lot

harder. It's a little more complex. But horses, like Steve mentioned with boxers, you have styles, so you know, horses that are dead closures cannot change their style for any particular race. Some horses like the stalk, meaning you know, sitting midpack a few length off the lead, and some

horses like to have extreme speed. This particular field, unlike last year, doesn't look to have as much early speed and it fellas And one angle that I like with Dermis sort of Gaki is he won the UAE derby going wire to wire. But I took a look at his other dirt wins in Japan and the other three wins came from off the pace, so he doesn't need to lead. So he has the flexibility to either go to the lead or

sit back. But there's not a lot of speed in this race, so it's going to set up some interesting scenarios where jockeys are trying for the same spot on the racetrack and they might have a might have some problems. Yeah, that means it could be a crowded field that the quarter pole coming down

the stretch. Wow, oh absolutely. You know, the quarter pole of every Kentucky Derby is always like traffic gym in midtown Manhattan, because what happens is they've run a mile and there's a quarter a mile to go, and quite frankly, some of these horses don't want to go anymore, so they start to back up through the field. And then you've got the horses you are trying to rally and they're trying to get around the deadwood, and so

you get a lot of conflict at the quarter pole. Horses trying to move forward and the horses that are backing up, and you've got to be lucky to get through. I mean remember last year Rich Strike. I mean he absolutely had all the luck in the world, Donny alone, just weaving in and out of traffic to stay clear, not have to check and get through on the inside. What has to happen then for fourte to not win the

race? Uh, you know, in or to win the race? Well, yeah, well, first to not win the race because we want we want to we want to get a price, right, we want to bet some money on somebody's going to get it. I want the winner. But if Forte is the favorite, so what what has to happen to keep him, you know, not off the board, but out of the you know, from winning the race. Well, a real simple answer to that question is, uh, none of these horses has run a mile on a quarter,

which is ten furlongs. Some of these horses have run eight for eight furlongs nine fur alongsh meaning a mile in the But it's ironic how another eighth of a mile from a mile in a day fill a mile and a quarter hits a lot of these horses right between the eyes. And you know, a horse like Forte might have for example of the lead at the at the eighth pole, but he's had another eighth of a mile to run. He's

never run that far before. And you know a lot of good horses have been gobbled up in the deep stretch because they just can't get that far. And then you have horses that are coming on. So he may actually run at a lot of horses run really good races in the Kentucky Derby and run second and third because you know, the last eighth of a mile, the last sixteenth of a mile, the last one hundred yards and sometimes eat these

horses up. Which brings me to you fourth, your fourth pick, Angel of Empire, who has that late kick, who might be gobbling up a lot of those horses. Yes, he comes from a great stable. Brad Cox is one of the top trainers in the world, much less United States. And this horse lights to come from way back, and he's impressed a lot of people. He's impressed me enough to certainly put him on my list. But among the horses that are going to come from way back, yeah,

ain't Jel of Empire certainly fits the bill. So one of your picks, practical move has been scratched. What's going on? Over there's a couple of a couple of horse has been scratched. There was this one uh trainer owner that you know, they've had to suspend him for a little bit. So there's a couple of things going on over there. But you've got a couple of scratches in the derby. What's up with that? Yeah, today

it was a real wild day on social media. The trainer that had his horses scratched was his name is Safie Joseph Jr. He's based out of South Florida, done in Gulf Stream Park and Palmetto and he had the unfortunate scenario of two of his horses literally died on a racetrack after running a Churchill this week. And you know, there's still an autopsy to perform to find out

what the reason why. But Churchill and the stewards decided to step in and basically take all of his entries out of their races, so he's not going to none of the Sappie Joseph junior horses are going to run this week. And another scratch the practical move who certainly is was a logical contender. I actually didn't hear the reason why, whether he got sick or suffered some sort of minor injury of some sort, but it brings a couple of horses in.

One of them is really interesting to me, is horse called Mandur and Hero, who is another Japanese horse, so there'll be three Japanese horses running in this race. Mander and Hero last reign in the Saint Nia Derby and lost by literally an inch. The practical move in a three horse blanket finished Skinner with the other horse and he drew in off the al soligibleist. So

both Skinner and Mandarin Harrow are now in the body of the race. Amazing does I haven't had a time to look at the card completely, but Baffort obviously can't have any horses in the rides this weekend, but he does have a horse or two with somebody else tied to it. Well, a lot of the horses, a lot of his better horses were sent over to Tim yakteen Okay, So if you see Tim Yaktein as the trainer, pretty good chance it's a Bafford horse, okay. And the same case for tomorrow,

anything running tomorrow for your oaks. What are you talking about the oaks? Well, you know, as far as the Kentucky yolks as certainly as prestigious a race to win is the Derbysist for the fellies. When I hate decapped the race and my report for a bridgon at dot com, my top two choices were both from the same barn, Brad Cox, who I'd just mentioned with Egel of Empire and one of the Wet Paint's going to be a very strong favorite, maybe in the range of two to one, nine to five,

that kind of thing. But I like the uncoupled stablemate number six Botanical, who's coming out of Turfway Park. He's won four straight races at Turfway over the Subpeter Service. But but he looks like he's got a lot of talent. So I went with the bigger price of the cock sources, number six Botanical over number seven Wet Paint in the Oaks tomorrow. Okay, okay, no great stuff, Thank you, Richard. And how can people I know that we've already got your your picks for Saturday and Friday, right,

how can people find it? Well, there's two places to find it. One is to go to brisnet dot com and follow the links to get it. But also it's available at race Day Laws Vegas dot com. I have a homepage there on the Race Day Laws Vegas dot com website and actually would prefer people go there because you know, eliminated the middleman. But anyway, but the way you spell it is literally race Day Lost Vegas. This spells save as it sounds dot com. And you'll see my smiling face on the

left column. Doesn't click on it and follow the follow the instructions and if they get it, they'll get some smiling faces on something. We want to see your smiling face on Friday and Saturday so particular. Yeah, thank you, Richard, would be talking to you for the freakness sounds good fellas elective weekend. Appreciate it. This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. Subscribe now to the podcast on the iHeart radio app just surgeony I on the Ball. Hey, welcome back to on the VAHA on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera. We already gonna call Jake might want to grab this. OK, we'll call us back. Yeah, we missed

that. Sorry about that, Give us a call back quick callback. We're just coming back from break so we weren't paying attention. But that's Jay. I'm Steve. We're ready to talk about the Delora situation. Go ahead if you can. Why don't you there's news right in the last few minutes. Okay, Hi, you're on the air and Eye on the ball. Hey, good afternoon. How are you doing. What's up? Tommy? Hey?

Right off the top. I you know this isn't blown small. There's a lot of reasons I'd like to listen to you guys, and a lot of what have to do with your history around and covering you ay, and I just want to you know, I just want to be complimentary and and how you came out forth and what's what is going on and what may or may not have been known and what you believe in how it should be had. Well, we appreciate that, you know. It's just it's I couldn't

I tendn't think of a better way to put it. It's well put and it's very you know, uh, it's personal, but it's not right. Yeah, right, No, I think that's good way to put it. More news is come on what you whence we finished with you? Yeah, we'll explain you're okay, you're a fan though you're you're a fan. So what what's your first reaction to this? And do you have have you thought stoughted thrown enough to say this is what I think I would like to see

them do. My first reaction is, honestly, was I sure, hope we didn't know about it? Yeah, And then my next reaction would have been what Steve said, and if we did, you know, is it going to come out? It's really you know, you guys know, I'm I'm straightforward, you of A basketball first and foremost over everything in the entire world that's sports. But this is you know, I'm a U of A guy, you know, it's it's my school. And I don't know the

answers. Yeah, I just hope that they that they can find a way to choose the right thing to do, honestly and whatever that falls for. I mean, honestly to me, if they knew about it, you know, kind of and they said that too, well, what if they knew about it and they said, okay, then them, well how do they here? How do they how would they say, Okay, well now we're going to kick you off the team. We hit it for you. But

yeah, I not make anything that makes all the sense. And I think we're at such an early stage in this that there you know, look, we haven't heard we haven't heard a word one from the U of A. Although statement from Wisconsin has come out, so we'll read that as soon as we're done here. But I don't know, I'm not sure what the right thing is. I have in my mind what I think it is, but I don't know if that's the right answer. So you know, we'll we'll, we'll, we'll say that here in a second. So, Hey,

Tom, thanks a bunch for the call. Derby you can Hey, I love that you guys are covering that, you know if people don't, uh, you know, I appreciate you had that guy on today. And you know, I got I got a guy that I followed twelve months a year and he's a good dude and happy and he does well. The Derby is so exciting, right because because there's twenty horses, it's a disaster to the first turn and it makes it wide open. Exactly. Yeah, it's so

much fun. Yeah, it's just so much fun. And what we do is I've said this to Steve Rivera before, my favorite horse to pick in the Derby is all and first and third and like look at look at the year authentic one as the third favorite, but tis the law the scratch favorite running second. We had two tries that paid twelve hundred thirty dollars each. Big chase, you get that big bomb exactly. Okay, Well we'll be

on it. Man. That there wasn't said to be a lot of speed figure into this thrace, but guess what a lot of the speed horses happen to be in gates two, four, six, and seven and they can't just stand around right along with his seventeen Yeah sok hey, thanks Tommy, appreciate it. Good look. Yeah, so go ahead, okay, let me let me, let me go to the And this was this was tweeted out because it was a response to Link Kawano, who was the right writer

for the Honolulup paper. They came up with this. Yeah from from this from Patrick Herb, director of Communications and Brand Strategy at Wisconsin Athletics, is in response to your inquiry on comote E Comoe loop to, I'm going to pronounce it. The u W Athletics UWB in Wisconsin released the following statement. At the time of Wisconsin football student athlete Como E. Latu's initial enrollman at UW Madison, the matter being reported involving Latto was not known to UW Athletics

officials. That's saying at the time of his enrollment. As described, the matter relates to Latto when he was a miner, and the juvenile records are sealed. Last fall, UW Madison officials became aware of the civil suit filed in the matter based on the information available to the UW Madison Office of Legal Affairs and UW Athletics officials, the matter being reported that involved lat Too prior to his time as a college student does not violate the UW Athletics Student Athlete

Discipline Policy, University misconduct policies, or reporting or disclosure requirements. Law Too remains a member of the Wisconsin football team. Simple Day came out and said the right away, what did you say after you heard read that? What did you say that this? I think Arizona is gonna put their logo on this. It's gonna say, uh, either Matt Answer or somebody from the you of a football office, and it's gonna be big, and they're gonna

replace Lattu's name. Right if in fact they didn't know, if they didn't know when he enrolled, And that's the biggest question, the question, so well, when we were talking about you know two things, there's two. There's two. You know, if you're looking at a flow chart, there's there's two starting points. They knew or they didn't know, correct, We already talked about if they didn't. If they knew, then we need an answer as to why this was okay. If they didn't know, then why

didn't they know or when did they find out? And then what was the response or reaction when they found out? Yeah, there we go, another call. All right, higher on the R and I on the ball. H James, Hey Jings, what are your thoughts? Pretty sad to hear it's not unbelievable that this could happen. But uh, even if you have agents didn't know at the time, they know now they need to do the right thing for the university, in the school and the sports program as a

whole. What would be the right thing moving on from that player? Ah, yeah, I don't know about that. That's tough because this my question is to everyone else. Then if they knew it at the time, they went into recruit him, but now they know now, now it's okay.

I don't see that as being an acceptable solution. And that's and that's kind of sort of down the road where I was going to say, if this happened today, right, if the incident occurred, let's say over the weekend, they found out about it today, he would have a minimum be suspended while they investigated it, and if they determined that he was guilty of the act, he probably would be kicked off the team. We'll look at Elliott Pits. Well, we don't need to go there because nothing. I don't

want to go there. But I don't think the university needs to do the right thing. You know, it's not it's easy to do the right things. One tough, the one it's tough, but that when it shows your true character and your and if you're a class institution. And unfortunately he did plead guilty. I guess as a minor, and you know, it's a civil case and now it's bought to light and I think the university just needs to do the right things as hard as it is. Right, I don't

think. I don't think you're alone and thinking that. There's been a lot of you know, this has been all over social Media's been a lot of people have said, you need to move on from him. Um, I'm assuming. I think the first thing we need to know is how how did we get to hear? Yeah? Right, James, I'm assuming you go to football games, right, Yeah, But I'm not going to be renewing my I'm not getting season tickets this year if he's still on the team.

Okay, That's why I wanted to go with it. Would you cheer him if he was still the quarterback? Now? So that's a neuro I can't. Yeah, I'm sure it doesn't matter about how great of an athlete you are. If this is in your past, then I'm sorry. I believe in second chances. But unfortunately, if you they didn't know, now they know they can need to do the right thing, and if they were hiding

it before, then they need to do the right thing still. And he needs to go to a different school at this point when people know exactly what's on the on the plate, right, Yeah, no, I hear you. Okay, thanks, appreciate it, Thank you, Thank you, guys, you thanks for calling. You know, And something I said a long time ago Steve and things like this is that you know, being a college athlete is a privilege. Yeah, right, not a right, it's a

privilege. And along the way, you can't do things that or you should be required to forfeit that privilege. He can, he can still be a student at the University of Arizona. He can move on with his life, right, he can do all these things. But should he be allowed the privilege of continuing to be and represent the University of Arizona. That tough question. Let's go to the next question. You're because you were so adamant, you were so adamant on the Alabama thing, go ahead and give him the

news. Well, uh, Jayden Bradley, the basketball player who have signed with Arizona yesterday. Everybody's the guard out of Alabama. Um. And I mentioned this briefly because I was still trying to make sure we had it right. I mention briefly at the end of the show, you had you had left was the player who, yeah, who was with Brandon Miller at the at the scene of that shooting of of the woman. Uh in Alabama.

We were certain that Brandon Miller at the very least needed to be suspended from you know, at least for a while to figure out what was going on. They didn't do that, and we were highly critical of that. Jade Bradley was with Brandon Miller. Now, it wasn't his car. He's not the one that drove the weapon over there, and by all accounts, Brandon Miller didn't even hand the weapon. He drove the car to the guy. The other guy came got the gun and the incident happened. You know,

what does what does what should be done about Jaden Bradley? Right right? So should he have been suspended as well? Should both of them have been suspended? Now we were again we were highly critical that Brandon Miller should have been Jaden Bradley too. I don't know. Well, there's a guy on my Facebook. I pushed this history once I heard that he had committed to Arizona. Um, Chris bred He's it's public. He's on my Facebook now. A risky and desperate move. I sent this to you right now,

said risky and desperate move. He was at the scene of a shooting in Alabama. Where's where a young woman was murdered. I don't care how good he might be extremely disappointed. Well, where where I differ with that? It's not It's not desperate, Tommy Lloyd's not desperate. The question is, you know, what's the standard, right and how much did they vet this? And you know it did did they did they go talk to the cops? What role did Jaden Bradley happen this if any and if they said,

look, he just happened to be there. He was a passenger in the car. You know, he was a passenger's car. He had no idea what was going on and then this happened. That's the case, then then fine. But if you know Brandon Miller and Jane Bradley and where over the saying, hey man, there's a fight going on, the guns in the back, you know that we'll get you know, and then it happens, there's a little more culpability there to the whole thing, which was where I

was with Brandon Miller. Brandon Miller knew knew he was taking the gun to the scene. Did Jade Miller also know? I don't know. Yeah, I know. It's well, we don't know until we know the slippery slope for both about for both of these things, I'm a little less um opposed. I guess I don't know if that's the right word to the Jade Bradley thing. Then I think where I'm going with I really am well, I think that de Laura for whatever reason, now n I L or n L

I right, UM will partly dry up. Yeah? Are you going to support right whether he's playing or not playing? Yeah? Are you gonna? Are you gonna continue to have this guy endorse your company, your product, you whatever it is? Um, it's unfortunate it's unfortunate, and you know the there's the whole well he was only sixteen thing with bull crap. I know when I was sixteen nine, you not to rape a girl, right, right? And you can say that because it was he got he was,

he admitted that he did. Yeah, that's why this is so that one I don't that. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna hear that argument. The question is, you know, as James said, you know, what is a second chance for Jade delora As? Does a second chance mean he still gets to play college football? Or does a second chance just mean he didn't have to go to jail, he can still go to college and he can go on with his life. You know, how far do you get

to do you get to go? You got this tough, tough call, tough call on every level, beginning with the admit thought in your mind? What you know, what do you want them to do? No, it's not my decision. I know it's not your decision. But do you have an opinion as I know, because I don't know what I would do it? No, no, no, this is a tough, tough call. There's no right answer. Maybe there is, and I don't know what it is. I'm glad it's not my decision, you know. I mean I

think I try. I think back to things that happen, you know, at the time Alvin Smith shot a gun. Yeah, you know he got suspended. Well you know there was and they ended up taking him back. There was on a football I know under rich Rod took a player or two with his players with history, right, and it was kind of it came and it went, Yeah, it was one day, this is what I'm doing. This is why we did it, and we moved on from it. But it wasn't not as serious as this. Uh and you know because

you follow it. Um, this is different. Like I said, I just keep going back to the too. How would you handle this if this occurred today? And I think you have to look at it that way man, And maybe I'm wrong, you know, And I'm not a lawyer, right, What rights does Jaden Delora have as somebody who this is in his juvenile past. Yeah, the records are sealed. Um, it's been adjudicated. He's gotten whatever he was gonna get for the crime, right, you

know, whatever they did in juvenile court. If he had to go to some counseling or whatever. Uh as we said, he had to do an apology. What you know, how much you know what's next for him? You don't have an answer to the question you just asked me, right, No, okay, I really do because it's tough, it really is. All right, there's all kinds of other breaking news. We're here at the top of the hour. We're gonna be back right right after the break with other breaking news. Chick around
