Breaking down all the exes and os. It's Steve Rivera and Jakin's summits. This is I on the Ball on Fox Sports fourteen Fiffer, They're welcome back to win in the ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera. He's Jakin's house and I hope he has some breaking news. This is I on the Ball, breaking news on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. All right, if we're wrong on this one, we're gonna blame it on Jason's scher.
Okay, okay, because it hasn't been it hasn't been formally announced, but Jason Cher tweeted that he is confirmed that Aran Mowatt is out as the pitching coach at Arizona Softball. Not only out of the pitching coach because you will not be a part of this stay. Yeah that's um. Yeah, Well that came out earlier, earlier this morning for a number of different areas because they're looking for a new position coach. That's where I'll start, right,
They offered the opening up the position. I see that part. Yeah, it started really early this morning. I woke up to that and that they were advertising for a new pitching coach pitching coach, and that's how it all started. I think that one of the other websites missed that push push that out, and Jason maybe confirmed it because somebody just threw that up on a on a text thread that I'm on and that you had that he had
tweeded that out. Yeah, no, this happened about I guess I got up at seven about that time where I saw somebody who says they they did this is how they did it. Well, they announced it how they announced it, announced that they but they posted the job. That does that surprise you? You know how they did it? Not that? Yeah, yes it does. Yes, it does come on the right way to do that, because I've done it before. The right way to do that is to,
you know, making make an announcement. Sure you know, hopefully you know Tar Tarn has a you know the quote that says, and I depend on how the breakup happened, right, Sure that is it is an amicable
or not. I'd like to think it is. You would hope that you know, because you know Tarn and Taren Moment and Caitlin Low you know, good friends, and so you'd like to think that Ben didn't know that you know, maybe that's that's why why well let me let me say this to you, Jay, and maybe you agree with me, and maybe you won't. One of the toughest things for a school, any school, high school, or college, is hiring our legend hiring uh Ewing at Georgetown first one
that came. Uh, there's others. There's others hiring somebody who was a fantastic player at your place, hoping that the magic the guy from that that followed Dean Smith, oh Guthrie right right, Well, he was an assistant for he was assistant for he was older than David Davis. Is gonna have the same problem because you are this guy and and and if things fail, how do you say goodbye to a to one of those guys, I mean
Juwan Howard right over another show. Yeah that eventually they could have that problem the um and so so this may have been a problem where and I don't know what you know, but maybe I don't know anything. Maybe she was good, maybe she wasn't, maybe whatever, And and and they had to figure maybe we need to change. Yeah, we look from where I sat as a spectator and really just strictly a spectaret. I don't nothing else.
But pitching in college softball now is about power. Now you still have to have I mean, you gotta throw seventy miles an hour, but you still have to have a change up and all that kind of stuff. But pictures are powerful, and those are the pictures that are winning game. Again, I saw I went to the U SLA Arizona game in the Pact Off tournament, and uh, you know, I saw Devinet's thrown and she threw hard.
I'm like, okay, great. Then I saw the ul A pitcher and the difference in the velocity and that, and yet you know, Arizona, you had a test to win the game. But the teams that have a bunch of those girls are the teams that have great pitchings. Teren Mohat was not that picture when she was a pitcher. She was She wasn't an overpowering pitcher, you know, fie foot nothing. She was craft and very crafty, a lot of junk. And you know, if that's how she
if she coached, how she pitched, that's not what's winning college. That's not what's making teams college a great pitching staff and called something Yeah, yeah, I guess we'll know or not know. Ever, yeah, you can see what you know, who the who the next pitching coach is right, And I don't think the magic is gonna turn over right away because it doesn't happen that right, no matter who's the coach, right, you still you still have to have you know, you have to have great pictures and they
have to be able to throw. And they got be able to throw spikes. And the pitching staff they had, now was it old, was it young? I don't, well, well nets is you know, she's leading. But they've got a freshman who pitched pretty well at times at times, and then they got again another you know, high school all American coming in. You know, I think all California. Picture who's coming in. He's supposed to be all that and a bag of chips. So we'll see,
well we'll see if that not that that if that was the problem. We know that was a problem for you. A lot of good players, right, the pitching wasn't work and so you know, who do you who do you? What do you do there? Change? Chang um okay um? What where was they gonna go? New? Oh? Recruiting, that's oh
that's right. Uh So Arizona has apparently not. Apparently they've gotten a commitment from a kid out of Spain. A Spanish recruiting services reporting that uh, a kid out of Spain by the name of Conrad Martinez, a freshman six foot out of Battlonious, Spain, uh plays on one of the top youth youth teams in the in the area over there as as committed to Arizona. Uh, he's he's kind of it looks like a slight kind of guy.
Probably somebody who's gonna come in more as ah more as a project as opposed to guy who's gonna come and light it up from from you know, the first But you know, you gotta have guys who can play in the background. Right. Sounds like a guy named Zach who had to sit out a while. But that fills. Uh, it doesn't fill because you get fifteen scholars but he's Uh, Tommy Layner has twelve scholarships filled. Uh with with his roster was two Bellasis on the list? No, he's okay, what
about the two bellas two bellas brother? Uh, because that would be number
thirteen. I don't see him listed. That's what on the roster. No, that's that's in uh in uh um Bruce Pasco story, he says, He says, the uh, the roster looks like this and to bellas a brother isn't on there, Okay, so maybe he's gone to Yeah, it's a it's it's a. Keisha Johnson, the Sandiame State Guy burro Vekanan Larson, Boswell, Bellow Basar, Dylan Anderson, kJ Lewis, Jaden Bradley, the creevous kid from uh from Lithuania, the Moroscus kid from Lithuania, Conrad
Martinez in the four walk Ons. Yeah that's okay. Well there's your there's your, there's your if the if the brothers not coming back? Yeah, who do you think the chances are of Bella's coming back? Yeah? So um, you know who knows, who knows what the heck happened there?
But anyways, uh, it says according to euro Hopes, um it says, Conrad Martinez was the key piece of the Penya You eighteen team that won the Spanish Championship against Royal Madrid and qualified for some league finals of something. Okay, so another another guard coming to uh coming to Arizona. Um uh. Maria Harush, the top golfer at at Pima signed a D one um letter intend to go play Colorado. So good, you know, good on
for Marcus Smith, our our friend, the golf coach over there. But she she was a Southwest District champion and she, uh, she's going over there to uh to play Division one golf at Colorado. Um, let's see what else do I have here? So as mentioned, uh, this this maybe be for bigger discussion down the road. All the stuff is starting to bubble do the surface about Mike Bone, the former athletic director at US.
The Athletic and The Ali Times both reporting that he had there's some documented issues at Cincinnati, document documentary emails that were exchange administration complaints about sexual harassment,
complaints about let me let me read what this specifically said. The Ali Times reported widespread issues with Bones management style at USC and Cincinnati, and including claims of quote inappropriate comments about the physical appearance of female colleagues at USC and alleged instances of quote unwanted physical contact with women at Cincinnati, which contributed to quote a workplace that was hostile, anxious, and toxic for women at Cincinnati.
Cincinnati that even before he went to USC, that was going on at Cincinnati, and USC did not sniff that out. And when you've got a female president at USC, that probably doubles the problems you're gonna happen. Yeah, who knows where. Yeah, I'm sure more will come from this, all
right, real as George, he says, Okay, so um. We reported today by Action Sports Network and tweeted up by Darren Ravell, say this one here he's on the Look. Hey, George there, George Jay, George, hold on, He's gonna give us the news at the same time. I don't even know what it is. Okay, so hold on.
We got George Modas from from show Showtime Sports Cards. Okay, George Karl Malone sold over five million dollars worth of memorabilia that he collected while he was on the ninety two Dream Team from you know, Jordan and Mike and and Larry Bird and Magic Johnson and uh what do you Apparently what he what he did was some of this stuff is from the Olympics, but some of this stuff is from before the Olympics, you know, some of those preliminary tournaments
and things that they played on. But a couple of things that he got was the game used jersey and a pair of shoes from Michael Jordan's that he got signed in the whole bit. That's that alone sold for three million and thirty thousand dollars. Did you buy the dollars? Were you the one that bought it? But I didn't buy it. I wish I couldn't worn something like that, But I was aware that he did sell that jersey for three million. And he's putting up this stream team like memorabilious sale a lot of
signed game US right stuff. Um, and it's estimated it's gonna go for like ten million dollars total. Well, he's I don't know if he needs money for an attorney sees or well he's. I mean, I think those those um rape allegations are still pendied. I know he doesn't want to talk about them. Yeah, I saw the still as when he was in college. Um, but the jersey went for three million. A pair of Eric
Jordan's that Jordan war went for four hundred and fifty thousand. Um. He Uh, he sold a pair of I think some magic Johnson shoes, no magic Johnson jersey for three hundred and thirty thousand dollars. A pair of conference shoes. So he just according to Darren Ravelle, he just went around and got something from everybody and then hung on to it until now and now he's selling it. He was he was smart to do that. A lot of it is like the Michael Jordan's jersey was was signed to him, like to
him alone, like saying Spidery or something. But it's still fetched three million and um it's selling on on gold in auctions which is ten gold and he's like the team of memorabilius, you know, or auction hit high end auctions tales right now. So George, how does that work if if someone sold to or signed to Karl Malone but you have it, what does it mean to George Mudas it was signed to Karl Malone. Usually it doesn't mean anything.
Usually it has very little value. However, with Michael Jordan's Dream Team game used jersey, it's still it still fetches a high price. Yeah, you can fact that it's a regular finals jersey, not his last finals, but it was the final jersey went for over ten million dollars on auction recently. You see the picture of though it says to Carl good luck and then it's Michael George's signature. I have to find a guy named Carl just to
get with the case. As a matter of fact, I have a piece in my office and it says to George, and I just bought it at the store. It was personalized. But all my hey, that's for me. Yah. That's pretty funny. But five million bucks so far. So it sounds like he's got some other stuff too, because it sounds like you went and got something from everybody. You look at the you look at the picture of the roster. I mean Patrick Ewen was on that team, David
Robinson, Charles Barkley, Scottie Pippen. I mean there's some guys that, you know, perhaps the greatest basketball team ever assembled, right well, George, you know and George, Yeah, let me ask you, Okay, so I know, Um, I'm at a place and my buddies eventually become famous or they are famous. I get stuff for them. Okay, could you sign this for me? It's my kids or whatever, and then twenty years later you the dude selling them. Would would you be pissed that he's
doing this? Almost almost it's a it's almost a betrayal, yes, exactly. Yeah, yeah, Steve it's almost doing like hude, I gave you that as a you know, like we're personal friends and stuff, and I thought you were gonna hold onto us and cherry ship and collect it and make it up whatever. Wait wait wait so so hey, attorney feed wait for
three for three million bucks, I'm selling it's sorry. Sorry, if you're not my friend anymore, Yeah, you don't if you ever talked again, exactly, exactly, Okay, all right, George, we appreciate it. Man. Well, we'll get you on again and talk about this stuff because this stuff is always fun to talk about it. All right, thanks about all right, we got to hit our break. We've got Brandy a Setta
coming up to talk about the run Tucson event. Uh you November and conjection with a twenty two soon and then one we got some ESPN stuff to talk about that came across probably a week late on this, but interesting stuff.

Welcome back to everybody? Two old dudes of a lady or no lady. No, no, we screwed up and didn't call her a guy. We'll call her right now. Wow. Uh, I'm getting this text. Lad Old man, we forgot.
Where are you? Well, we'll have him cost yeah yeah yeah, last time, I mean I got, I got interested in something that was the good time. The good things we have plenty of times. Yeah, So yeah, we'll have Randy set it coming up here in just a second. What the things do? They have a big They have a big run here this weekend of the biggest run ever, the biggest run right, Um is that it's the Memorial Day. Uh uh, you're forgetting this weekest Memorial Day.
I know it's Scott hasn't this year gun by ruling too fast, you'll be sixty four s Okay, I'm gonna have him call us real quick. All right, Sorry that Randy, but we'll give you plenty of time. Yeah. But uh um, while we're while we're hold up, you know, I'm looking at some different stuff. Kiko Romero, the kid out of out of CDO. He has moved up into second place, a tie for second uh for RBIs in a season at Arizona, and he needs two to
tie Ron Hassey and three to pass him. And he got at least one more game, so he's got he's got a chance to to get this. He's it's a. Ron Hassey has eighty six, Keiko has eighty four. Hassi also has eighty four. So he did it twice in frank ConA. How many games? How many games? I'm sure they didn't play as many games back then they played. They played I had a lot of games. I mean, you know, they played sixty games back. Okay, Okay, we've we had him on before. We've had um see before. Maybe
get him back on. Yeah, we got to go through. The whole record is broken. Yeah yeah, just stabuto. Yeah, but all this stuff and maybe he had the game has changed because he was a man. He he was a he was a coach for a long time in the majors. Right, Okay, do you think Arizona's got a great mascot in terms of like the you know, Wilbur and Wilmas. It's just a big game boomer thing. No, it's somebody else. They threw up a list. I don't know, I don't know, I don't know. I know that
they're not in the commercials a lot. You know when the Ducks and the Sun Devil is all the time, which pisses me off. That's a different thing. But these guys listed the best mascots in college basketball and listed Wilbur and Wilmo at number four four. Where's the guy from? I don't know, he's not part of the Hollywood see because they're never on TV. Got Oregon, Kansas, Syracuse and Arizona and then Kentucky Ohio State. That does it say what makes it? Um? No, it just says these mascots
are cut above the rest. Oh, Chad Gpt, I don't know who that is. Maybe that's somebody else and that and that March Madden is just um uh repeated it. Okay, see he hasn't he hasn't responded, but we're gonna we'll find him. What idea who that is? But anyways, you know you didn't uh, Arizona mascots getting some love out there. Um So, as of now, Washington leads a uh USC in UH in the
Pac twelve game. I think if I think the way I read it is if USC beats Washington, Arizona plays Washington in the in the next round, and if it's if, it's if. If they don't, then it's uh, it's us. Randy's a shoe, yes, sy Randy. Randy is set up from run Tucson. How are you. Let me just preface this because you've been on the show before. We're just two old dudes. We forgot to call you on the right time. So I'm thinking, oh, no, we get a call them. Hey, Hey, thanks for but
you know we're busy. We're busy dudes. You know you're a busy guy. We're a busy guy. We're three busy dudes. Old dudes. Hey, you have a big event, and we'll talk about the event we announced today, but what about your event this weekend? Yeah, it's the TMC Meet Me Downtown five k Night Run, which is a running walk down at Armory Parking and Children's Museum, And it's your biggest run of the year.
We have this year, we have coming up on fourteen hundred people. Steven, I was looking at the numbers pre COVID we had twenty six hundred. But this is the biggest sense everything shut down three years ago, so we're kind of happy to get get the city back moving again. So, so, how many events or how many run different runs and walks and things are part of this event, and which one gets draws the most? All right,
So I'll go in time order. At six pm, we have an Open Mile, which is what it sounds like, a mile that anyone can do. So we have about fifty people on that. Years we've had a fire department folks running in fire department gear. We've had people in two twos, and we have prize money up. So the course record is something like four minutes and eleven seconds for the fastest mile. We also have a high School mile. For the second year in a row, we're doing a high
school mile. We also added junior high school kids and I think we're going to join that with the open mile, so we'll have about eighty people running together for a file at six o'clock. Maybe enough then yeah, go ahead, No, no, you go ahead. Oh I was gonna say a reason we're doing high school mile is I now have a kid who runs high school track. I'm like, well, let's have high school kids run.
So there wasn't a lot of news in it in town, but South Point High School one state championships for both boys and girls track, so a bunch of their kids are coming out to raise kids from Micah Mountain and other local high schools are going to tow the line and sort of have end of season grudge match against each other. So that'll be kind of fun in that high school a mile. Yeah nice, Nice. Let me ask you a dumb question that you probably really know. Well, at what age is the optimal
time to be a runner? You know that's not a dumb question. There's a lot of conversation about that. And then when you use the phrase runners, that's a bit of a disaster, right, because sprinters are generally twenty to twenty four is when they say they peak milers and middle distance runners late twenties or early thirties, marathoners which is twenty six point two miles, late
twenties up to mid thirties and even early forties. Right, we've seen our Abdi Abdi Rahman here in town make Olympic teams is late thirties, so um. And then there's the rest of us slows who can get personal bests into our forties and fifties. So there's plenty of time for regular runners. I'm still waiting to improve and get better. I'm still waiting to do my personal best because i haven't done my first one yet. Yeah whatever, Steve,
whoever Steve runs to, that's his personal best. There you go, there you go? So uh, how you know, we know of Tucson as a town, you know, bike cycling town. Um, how was Tucson as a as a running town. I mean, you gotta the weather and that kind of stuff. It's got to be, you know. You know, We've actually have been a really good town. The University of Arizona has had a great track program for the most part for last thirty years because they get a lot of good kids. So we have a lot of good college
running here. Open running we've had. We're a mecca for winter training for folks. Um uh. We have on a community level, and I used to spend my time I'm in sort of the low elite level and never made the Olympics or anything. But now I'm all about using running to make our city a better place to live. We were named a runner friendly community a couple of years ago by one of the big national organizations. So like with Perimeter Bicycling and El Tour and we go get all these awards for bicycling,
turns out we're a national leader in running as well. Right and now, to make the segue, you've combined with or collaborated with El Tour to have an event on that same day. I am super excited about this. Steve the El Tour to two sons. Folks and I have talked about of putting on a run with l Tour for a few years and finally we're putting it together. It's going to be great. Same day as El Tour, the Saturday before Thanksgiving, right in the heart of downtown. We've got all these
roads closed. It's going to be a flat, fast course. It's gonna be awesome by the attraction to do that. I mean, you said you've been wanting to do this for a while. Um, how do you How does your organization benefit from you tying up with the El Tour that day? Well, you know what I said a moment ago. My wife and I owned this Entitycal Run Tucson, and that is a spinoff from our local nonprofit
of Southern Arizona Roadrunners. Remember Southern Arizona Roadrunners mission is remote health and wellness in Tucson and Southern Arizona through running and walking. Our mission is to make our hometown a better place to live and dude, EL Tour just does a great job of bringing people together for exercise, for motivation over months of training, bringing people to talent to spend money here and if we can be part
of that and act, I think it's a good thing. Yeah. Yeah, In fact, I think you're you're optimistic about the numbers that you'll see, maybe a thousand and maybe more. I'm hoping. You know, El Tour is so well known and there's a lot of folks who do the bike ride, who have friends and family who come out to watch and are looking for things to do. So if mom is riding the bike, maybe dad and the kids could go run. Or if dad's riding the bike, mom
and you could go run friends and family. Um, yeah, I'm optimistic. I think that there's a good chance we can make this a pretty popular civic event. That's I mean, that sounds like fun. I mean, so you're going you're running through the different events, so there's a walk also, Um, what's the main event, as you would say, you know for Al Tour, it's you know, yeah, it's one hundred mile run, right and stuff. So the El Tour running race the big event,
and they'll be short. It'll be a five k three point one mile, which is the distance that we're doing this weekend. It turns out a five k is the most popular distance in America. All right, Most race is are at three point one miles and right in length, easy to train for speed. Demons can race and people like me can hobble and others walk it. So the l towards the Tucsons five k will be three point one.
It'll start at the Convention Center and sort of cruise past Armory Park and go down to eighteenth Street and then cut across and end up at a little park right near the fire Department in downtown Tucson. The funny think about it, they'll have fun doing that and they can still stick around for the party because it's gonna be a big party. That I think is the whole point.
Get that done. Bike riders will be heading out, the runners have access to all the stuff that's going on that day, and then the bike riders start trickling in and it's just a big fitness party in Tucson. Yeah, it should be fun. I mean, I keep saying it's gonna be fun. That's the best I got. Yeah, just music and a bowl and great weather. Uh, yeah, it should be a blast. You asked Jay of the events, how many events do you have throughout the year,
Not so much like this, but to many events do you have. We run Tucson put on seven or eight races a year, depending on what venues are open. And you know, these last couple of years are kind of hard. Like we used to put on a run for about fifteen years over at old Tucson Studios, but they were closed down for a couple of years, so we're trying to get back to that kind of run. But yeah, we put on seven or eight races with runs and walks and race funds
for local charities. And we've been doing it for a while. So my daughter ran in one ran down Mount Lemon or Kathleen Highway? Was that one of yours? Or oh my god? I you know, years ago a guy in town, his name was Woslow, had the idea of doing Mount Lemon marathon and he did it up the mountain. Oh, and everyone thought that was brilliant. And then there's a national company that is even smarter than that and said, well, instead of running up, why don't we run
down? And so they have a series in the Smoky Mountains up in Utah and here and he's on where you run down? But boy, if you run twenty six miles down mountain limon, You're not gonna able to walk for a couple of days. Your sides will be beat up either way, it's gonna be tough. Yeah. No, I think I'm reasonably smart and there's no way I'm running up or down. I'm with you on that one. So you talked about you talked about prize money. Who's excluded from this?
I'm assuming that maybe the high schoolers are not can't receive it or can they? Now? With all the money kids for this race this weekend, we have a couple of thousand dollars in prize money. So to come back to Saturday night, May twenty seventh, we have that mile at six o'clock, and we've got prize money for a mile up a few hundred bucks. If
you said a course record, you make four hundred some dollars. And then we have a five k at seven pm and we also have all total about a thousand bucks in prize money for second, third, men and women. Um, we do exclude the high school kids from prize money. They'll get a gift card to the running shop in town. But um, what's a low level. I would say we've had Olympians run this race, but generally
it'll be regional elite athletes. Some folks from Flagstaff are coming down, I think, so, yeah, well, what's what's a good time for the for the five k? It's something like this, I mean, is fourteen thirty one? I think fourteen thirty two. So I'm like got one guy in town a couple of years ago, Ian Burrell ran, I want to say, fourteen thirty two. I've got it on my votage two years in
a row, the same exact time. That's the course record. He went on to try out for the Olympic team after he got out of law school. But fourteen thirty give or take, that's not bad. That's four thirty a mile pretty much. Yeah, that doesn't seem like very much time we had a cat to catch up. You had to catch are playing. I don't know that I could do that on a bike. Okay, So so now is your The website's up if anybody wants to join. Now the cost
and where to go. We are doing person registration. It's forty bucks for the five a twenty bucks for the mile, and in person. The best thing to do is go to a store in town called the Running Shop. On Friday afternoon from three to six, or come down to the Children's Museum on Sixth Avenue in downtown Saturday between five and six thirty to sign up in person. And that was for this weekend, right, that's for this weekend now, so yeah, let's pause on. We've got multiple, multiple days,
so for this this weekend. Basically, I'll say, come on down to the Children's Museum Saturday night five o'clock, find up for the races, and we'll get you hooked up. Now, if you want to get involved with the EL Tour event in November, don't find the L Tour to Tucson website, which if I would be better prepared, i'd have right in front of me. But I think it's L Tour to Tucson dot org dot org
and they will have links to their registration page, right okay. Oh and lastly, we have just a second here, um, because EL towards a charity. I don't know if I've ast you this is the run a charity as well or can it be that run the part of L the L to

text on your mascot story. I have no idea. I am no indo. I'm an old dude. I don't pay attention. I use a pencil and a pen and still, you know, use my wallet with money. But it was about some computer generated story blah blah blah, computer software that does crazy stuff and puts these things out and the march Madness Twitter account retweeted it, and then right and then and then it goes to snowballs. Yeah, okay, anyway, hey, before I want to get into this conversation
by ESPN before do that. Um, all the attention that came to Michael Block, the golfer and the PA, that's I feel bad for the guy. He shot in eighty one today and he's in the last place in the tournament. So teen minutes maybe, Hey, exactly, Um, there was there was there was in him a video. Well, first of all, on his first hold, there's a video or there was a picture of him he had in a sand trap, but his lie was such that he had to like he had one foot in the trap and then one foot like really,
I mean, it was just a completely awkward thing. He opened up bogey bogey shot in eighty one. There's also a shot His ball was on a bridge, and so his his option was to take hit it from there or to take a drop with a penalty stroke. So he hit it from there and actually had a pretty good shot nearly knocked on the green over some trees off of this bridge. I'll take fifteen minutes and he won two hundred eight thousand plus fifty thousand for his putter or whatever the yea from fifty grand
for his putter. He's got an invitation to some other tournaments. So look, he's not he's not. Don't cry for the guy. They're just making the point that you went out a shot in eighty one today when you're when you're a PGA Tour golfer eighties like that. No, you can shoot a seventy nine, but when you shoot eighty it's kind of like that's really bad. And he shot eighty one, so the fight thing is already sabbatini form at Arizona. Guy is uh is the next offer ahead of him. You
shot a seventy seven. So it's kind of boring. And now we're waiting for baseball to figure out what's gonna happen here. But the softball there's no softball, you know, for years we've been worrying about softball and no softball tournament. Right Baseball might be over that, you know, after after this weekend, so uh, we'll see anyways, Okay, so conversation happen. This is this is like uh a week old. But um ESPN came out and the Wall Street Turn did a story on this, so everybody's also followed
up on the story. But ESPN plans to have all of its programming streaming. Okay, so that you know right now, they've got ESPN Plus where you get in stuff that's in addition to what you can get on that. Um I think it's uh nine bucks a month or something like that. In my I have it, but in my case it's part of a bundle that I have with my Verizon service with Horizon. With my Verizon phone service, I get ESPN Plus, I get um Disney Plus, and I get uh
Hulu. Okay, so do you listen or do you watch any of those? Oh? Yeah, yeah, you know, so it's worth there's sometimes that you can pick up stuff that you you know, you The great thing is is that for me, if I'm at home, I've got it. You know, I've got my cable, I've got I've got ESPN. But if you're somewhere else and you want and you need to watch something that's on
ESPN, having the ESPN Plus subscription m HM gets you that. Okay, you can get it out if you've got ESPN on your cable, but somehow it's easier to get to when you've got Yes, what's on ESPN Plus, Just like they it's just some um games that you know, additional games you get, you know, you get Appalachians stayed in football, where you get some additional basketball, you get some hot you know, you'll you get some of the college softball in college baseball playoffs and and that you don't use that
I do, I do? What are you boarder? What are you doing? I'm joking about serious? Well, no, I mean, well, I just don't know. I'm saying as I'm as I'm surfing looking for something that I want to see. Okay, here's one. Okay, the early rounds of the majors in golf before this, the even before Golf Channel, you didn't get any of that until Saturday and Sunday. Now, yes, PN for like the Majors, they'll come on at one o'clock in the afternoon.
But if you've got ESPN Plus, they've got programming even before that. You know, with with both the Masters and the PGA, I got up at six o'clock in the morning and there was already golf on. You're sick. Looks okay week So now I interrupted. So now they're talking about all
their programming is gonna go streaming. Now they're saying that's gonna happen within the next couple of years, meaning that even like the Rose Bowl, right, which is on ESPN, that's gonna be that's gonna be streaming on you know, and then you're gonna have to pay for that for like, let's say twenty bucks a month for Esprit whatever it turns out to be, You're gonna have to pay for ESPN. What about two two, ESPN two three,
all of them? All the ESPN is gonna be streaming now. Initially they're saying it's still gonna be on cable, but the president of Disney, you know, the owner of of of of of ESPN or ESPN's parent companies, said ultimately they're gonna be strictly streaming. You're not gonna be able to get them on cable. You're gonna have to pay separately for you Yeah, so is that a good thing for cable subscribers? But no, because because it could be cheaper, well, the cable will be cheaper, but now you're
gonna have to go out to pay for whatever. Est let me say this because and I don't even know where I'm saying this. I have a few friends, I won't say a lot of friends who who were complaining I wanted to use a different word complaining about ESPN, because well that that was the word who complained about them about being political, you know, during that political time when a lot of the people were talking about parties right or left, and they said, I'm not gonna watch ESPN anymore. But you know,
I'm not gonna watch sports anymore by ESPN because they've gone this far. They've changed it since. But but the people would apparently jump ship and they cut their chord and blah blah blah. So no, this is in addition, I wonder what the prices is. I don't know if I I don't know, I don't know if I pay for the story. This story says that, um, you pay or the cable companies pay nine dollars per subscriber to have ESPN as part of the cable package. So that's so you're paying something
above that because you're obviously marking it up. So but but you know, but you get it on your cable so or you get it on you know, you get on YouTube, TV or whatever. What this sounds like is that you're gonna have to have a subscription specifically with ESPN to see it. So now you're not gonna be channel surf. You come across ESPN. If you want to watch watch UF, you got to turn on the ESPN app on your TV or whatever. So it's it's gonna change the whole thing.
If look, if ESPN does this, which it sounds like they're pretty far down the road on this, uh reading this story in Forbes, strictly is this is strictly for money making? Correct? Yeah, pretty much strictly.
And and we don't know about a deal for PAC twelve. Uh yeah, but but you know, you know, some of the conversations that I've already heard about this is that they're saying, so, so you're telling us that you're gonna make more money with this, so that you can continue to pay X for college football, X for Major League Baseball, X for you know, the NFL, and the said streaming services aren't can't charge as much for advertising as you can for cable right now, So what's what's the what's the
impact going to be down the road? I mean, there's even a name for it. They said there there's uh that the the internal code name for the project of gaining ESPN streaming is called Flagship. I mean, they're at they're they're they're very far down the road. And in fact, last week when the uh, when this information got out, people think it's gonna make them more valuable. There the Disney stock went up one point three percent on
that day, and it continues to go up. You're gonna get it, right, I'm gonna probably eventually get it because I have to watch what the question is. Okay, let's say my wife and I aren't together anymore, right, whereas she would probably have cable and it would probably be paying something for ESPN, and I've obviously would She's not gonna go buy ESPN. But right, right, you know, how many are they gonna how many people
are they gonna lose? Who? Oh? Yeah, you have it just because it's part of their no question, right, So how do you make So does that mean that the rest of us who do want it are gonna have to pay more? Probably? Probably? Yeah, because they'll lose subscribers end right, yeah, yeah, yeah, half a dozen, one half dozen the other. But yeah, there's no question. Now, what what's the value of say YouTube TV? Because right, now on YouTube TV.
You've got ESPN as part of the its part of that path. Will that still be on YouTube TV? Or do you turn on your TV and you have to go to the ESPN app to get I got like I've got I've got a newer TV and in my house now or I've got the I've got all these apps now there on my cable. But you know there's an ESPN app that I can turn on and from that I can watch anything that's on
ESPN and all the ESPN. So let me ask you, and this might be a different topic, but uh, in cable there's about two hundred, two hundred channels whatever because there's duplicates on the on the high death bog out those two hundred channels, how many you watch? Not very many? No, I bet I'm not very well. I mean I don't watch two hundred. I bet I watched thirty, okay, thirty, so that's not even uh, you know, ten. And then there's something that you get.
I watch heavily right, right right right, so thirty maybe heavily fifteen yea four networks for the killing networks Fox, Fox, Fox, ABC, CBS, NBC. I watch Oxygen, ESPN, date line. Yeah, datelines on Oxygen and on ID right, Um, so that's seven eight yeah. Um. I watched the Fox Sports I mean Fox Sports one network and Fox Sport Fosports one and two, a bunch of the movie channels. Okay, so trobably yeah, okay, so then we're still paying for all this,
right, Yeah, I like you better. I want to pay for the ones. I want to want to pay for what you want. Right, let's take this call. In fact, I want to kill my cable. I want to just kind of just Google. But I'm not like you. I am. I am not like you. I am such a channel sir. Well see, I'm not like you. I wish I were because I could watch just the things like on the internet because I'm I'm too dumb to
to program my TV. Se I do. I've I've you know, I've got my favorites right through, and I've whittled down the two hundred and some channels to probably fifty maybe that I've lifted as my favorites. And that's what I surf. So I'll serve through those towns. I'll get all the way to the bottom. If I haven't found anything, I'll go to the back and start over and feeling like something's got to be right. I'm a huge channel surfer, but I will say that right now, I think I think
I'm I've still got cable for one reason, only one reason only. What's Packed tweve network and you're paying two hundred and some for that? Yeah right, well yeah, well that's for my internet. Yeah yeah, but but still you're paying. But but I did, I did the math on it. I'd only be saving like under a hundred dollars if I cut the cable because I'd still have to pay for internet and not not in the bundle anymore, so I still have to pay for internet and then to get essentially the
same TV I have right now, I'm not saving a ton. So I'm saving some and I'll probably do it, but I can't do it right now because I have Packed twelve network and I'm the only one in my family that's got it. So my all three of my kids gravy train off of me to get Packed twelve network streaming. Yeah. Well, I was there at my cable place about a month ago. I kind of indirectly kind of threatened
that I was going to jump ship. And okay, they didn't even budge like Lorie the Price, and they didn't say, well come back or I'm thinking, oh no, I'm gonna have to keep something. I had a buddy of mine who got who uh got a got direct TV like half half off by saying usually go yeah, you're saying he was gonna leave. Yeah.
Yeah. But these guys are kind of you know, they have a they have a the proverbial gun to your head, yeah, because they know, you know, I'm not going anywhere right now, but I will eventually. Yeah, And I'm not like you where I can hook up my YouTube TV, my Hulu TV and my peacock. No too much work for me and I'm never there. You might go get yourself a twelve year old off the street. They'll come and hook it up for you. My son, Yeah, No, you're right, You're right. Too much work for me
can come around. I'd rather just going to take a half like I'm gonna do run for this show. I've actually got. I'm pretty I've actually pretty tech savvy on. My son still thinks I'm a little behind. No, that's why you're doing the but you know, saying touch those but I feel
I you know, I like the TVs that I have. I've got a couple of the of the same TV because of because of all the apps that I can I can access through that, and I like watching Peacock, which I watch a lot of because they've got twenty four hour Dayline and Dan Patrick's show. But I see it on the app, not on the app that's hooked up to my cable. We need to get a real job, all
right, man. We'll be back tomorrow, one last day before we hit it for for about a week and a half, So be sure to come back tomorrow
