This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Ja Ganzalis on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen powered by Nova Insurance Services. He sure your most prized possessions, katz R two SAD and I Heeart Radio Station. They good afternoon, everybody. Welked to two Eye on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jay. Welcome to Thursday. I thought it was Friday. Maybe I wis day was Friday. Well it was Friday until you decided not to take Friday off. Yeah. Yeah, I'm staying in town.
So excited I am to stay in town. Well you're here, man, I'm happy you're here, Steve. I love you, man, I'm glad you're here. You're lying, you lying? I do. I tell people that all the time, and all the time. He saved me. He saved me from misery. And no, I'm happy you're here, and I'm happy you're gonna be here tomorrow too. It's a big show today. Yeah, we're loaded. Uh it faster, It makes the show go fast. Well, yeah, you know, a lot less of us, a lot
more of them. But uh, Brandon Sanders, who's the high school and Alumni relations coordinator at Frizona Football does their camps, does all the you know, he's the guy who's largely responsible from getting all these yeah, uh former players who come in and you know, come to the spring game and stuff. So they're running all the camps. We're gonna talk about all the summer camps that are available to us, Rob Elbows with you of a coaches and
whatnot. Yeah, I also wanted to talk to him because we haven't talked to him in a while about the success of the spring game with all his buddies coming into time. It was huge. Yeah, they had a lot of people there was They had a lot of It's just like two hundred and seventy some you know, former players were here or something like that. It's a big number, including when you're getting guys like Gronk and I don't think
Bruskie was here this year, but he was here last year. But you know, all the guys that they bring in, it's it's pretty crazy. Yeah. Yeah, okay, so I'll talk about that. That should be fun. Uh and then uh, then later in the hour a three thirty five I heard its Chin head coach of the Sugar Skulls big win last week Big Game this coming up on Saturday six o'clock. You can hear it here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. You can also watch it on YouTube, or
you can go to the game, which I highly recommend. Me to ask you a prediction attendance because of last week's success. Well, last week they gave away kids jerseys. People brought their kids and they got their jersey. I'm gonna still say in the thirty five hundred. The number was probably probably dropped it they had forty two last week, but you know, if they're
in the three thousands, you know they feel pretty good about themselves. The arena seems, you know, there's enough people in the arena where it doesn't feel like it's half empty and whatnot. You know, it's hard for us, you know, Pat Paris and I in doing the broadcast, you know, we're facing you know, when we're the way we're facing the field, that's the side that more people sit on, so they'll be low us,
so we can't tell how many people are there. But the other side had a good number of people in it, more than all year long, so think you know. And I would talk to Kevin Guy the week before and he was pretty confident they were gonna have a good crowd last week and they did so. Hopefully get an out. It's a big game. They're playing for first place in the in the Western Division. They're in the hunt. How many there's a lot of games though, price. Yeah, they've got
uh, they've got eight games left. Oh, it's like total of fifteen games. They're mid season at the middle of the season. They're four and three. Okay, they're right in them, really right in the middle. Just put some past the halfway point. Um, it's a fifteen game season. They've got eight games left. County Saturday's game, okay, super and then at four fifteen data your guy from Run to Son Yeah, yeah,
we've collaborated with them. U el too. Rush shouldn't say we are el tour and Run two Son House collaborated for a big run on right day, November twenty three, number Dimber eighteenth of twenty twenty three. I hope to see you there, Jay, since you took off the took on the cycling events, run to You'll know you'll me to run for five k. Only run for one thing, beer bathroom. I don't even run for beer anymore. Okay, I got it. I run to the bathroom, and that's
what I. Yeah, it's not good either. Be quick, but don't hurry. You're both so exactly. So no, I don't. I don't run often, Steve, and you're not gonna get me to run on that day either, you know. It's it's it's a yeah, no, it's it's I. This is an old story, but I and where we live, there's you know, the route that we take to get out of our neighborhood. Half a mile away. There's this little bridge over over a culver and I thought, I'm gonna run to that and back. That's a mile.
I can do that. No, couldn't even I didn't even get there. Your your mind is twenty one, your body is sixty post. It doesn't seem far. No, it's not good to vegas. Let just walk to the stratosphere. It's right there. It didn't seem far, and it turned out it was. And so I I don't remember you know what. My knees are bad, my hips are bad, my back is bad. I'm getting depressed by getting older. It just and it's not because I'm getting older. It's yeah, the body sucks. Hey, my youngest brother,
so one next to me. Gene turned seventy. I saw, I saw that, So what's the other one? The other one looks Rick is seventy three, okay, seven, Ed will be seven. Ed will be seventy two in August. He's my favorite, you know, and because he's quiet. Yeah yeah, but but he doesn't he looks were sounds younger than than than than Jane. But I guess now, maybe I didn't spend enough time with it. They're all yeah, no, they're they're they're all. They're
all kind of the same guy. So um, just different, yeah, just different. But yeah, so seventy three, Ed will be seventy two in uh in a couple of months. His birthday is three days before mine. And then Jean just turned seventy saw and then I'm a spelt sixty three but pushing it really hard to sixty four in a couple of months as well. It's happening fast, Steve. The years go by, but later I remember, you know, as a kid, I couldn't wait for the you
know, I wanted to be fourteen. I wanted those years took forever. These things are flashing, there's no question, especially when you have kids. Yeah, you could get a lashing byas yeah, can not. Don't even know if I would have taken taken better care of my health, if i'd be, I'd probably still feel the same. Well, you know what, I don't know. My wife will be mad if I say this. You know, all the things that you can do to be healthy, they're no fun. No, of course not, You're no fun. Can I buy
you a piece of cardboard? Right? I'd rather be buy you a piece of you do have a steak and a baked potato, you know, and a beer, then you know, some kale and uh, you know, and a piece of seaweed and totally agree with you. You know. But doctors tell me that and I say, well, I kind of just want to you know what, you know what? Okay, yeah, you know, I'll give it. I'll give it up. I hear you, I hear you. Um, Okay, let's stop being depressed, yea, let's
say, yeah we are. We're depressing the hell out of our fans. We should tell them what what we decided to do with our time of our time for summer. So um. I was already taking some time off starting next week. So rather than break up the show and have me for a period of time, and then Steve for a period of time without us both being here. We said, we're just gonna take it all at once,
So we're taking the off, So we're taking summer. So tomorrow is gonna be our last show until June the sixth, So we're gonna take off all next week and then Monday and Tuesday the following week. I'll be getting back from from Mexico, from Rocky Point. Steve will be getting back from wherever he's going to go off and uh carouse and we'll be back full force. We'll be here for the summer. Uh well, no promises, Yeah, well, no promises. I know I'll be here for the summer. Yeah.
Uh, you have a little little sware to go to go off and do in September for my wife's a sixtieth birthday. But um, we'll be here, you know, pretty much the rest of the summer. No other time off to because we yeah, we're busy, we're bussy from August until
April May. So again, rather than break up the show, uh for week a week at a time for each of us, we're just gonna take all our time off together and get it over with and then move on into the summer and then uh, you know, really cover all the things that are going on. So right, so after tomorrow we're off for seven shows. We were going to be off Memorial Day anyway. Yeah, so that's so that neither you know, we were gonna take that day off anyway.
So really we're only taking off six shows that we weren't going to take off, right, so we need to we hope you'll we hope you'll miss us, but you'll get the national feed for those games for those days, and then we'll be back on June six, start lining up guests, and we'll try and have a great summer with it. Right, So I just want to everybody know that we'll be back just in time for the NBA play.
Yeah, wish us well that we that we come back healthy, rejuvenated, Uh, that we don't lose a limb out there somewhere, you know, getting in the water, here comes a you know, a shark or a whale whatever, get by some jellyfish. And you know how, I'll never get lost in the woods, Jay, because you're never go into I never go into the woods. You know, I'll never be eaten by a shark and don't go into that. I do not far and not without like, you know, a safety thing. I don't swim into the I don't swim.
I don't swim. I don't run. You know. I got there with an inner two. But that's it, I bob Okay. So that was our preview on the coming of days, and then we have our preview of today. A lot of local breaking news from a lot of big bricking news if you haven't heard already. But we'll get to that when we get to that. Okayvowvey obviously right, Um, we're still waiting to hear who Arizona Baseball plays, and it's semifinal game tomorrow. Um, there's still there's
two more games that have to be played to make that determination. Uh, it's likely likely to be Stanford. Um ASU beat Oregon State today, so as U has actually got a shot to advance. Yeah. Um, so that the highest seeded team that goes one and one in their pool is the wild card. So as US a five. So Stanford is has already won its pool, so they're a one. Um. Oregon State was a two, so they lost their pool. So I don't know who the three in
the four are. But ASU can still get in into the fourteen bracket. Fourteen bracket, but it's likely Arizona's playing well if they know. I take it back, because Arizona is going to be a no. I am confusing Arizona. They go by seed, so even if they're a team is a wild card. If they're a higher seat than AWA, then Arizona Arizona play Stanford. But the story remains to be seen. How that they won't know
till to till the games are over. To you you know what didn't we didn't didn't catch or we just didn't say yesterday when we broke the news or had the news of the issue, you have a you have a coaching changes, new a for Adia. We never mentioned that ariy Is is gone. Oh you're right, you know that they failed, right right, And we kind of just kind of listened and it's just never came across and then we think, you know what, oh wait, yeah she's gone. Now,
yeah she's gone. Well, um, and there was an article that I saw that said that Ada very much, she's gonna go play overseason the off season instead of coach and be here in the off season to try and improve her you know, she wants to play in the league for a while, so Adia gave her blessing to her, um, you know, going off and instead of coming here and you know, helping to run the show. She was she wasn't actually a coach. She was a She was a staff
crepe recruiting, so she couldn't she couldn't really coach on the floor. I mean she could do things like, you know, she could be you know, let's say they were scrimmaging or whatever. She could do that because coaches do that all the time, or staff abers do that all the time. But what she couldn't do was coach on the floor. So she's gonna go off and play overseas. She did that right after she left here. So again, just trying to improve her her situation as a professional basketball player.
So Harry McDonald will not be around saw her all the time. She would be. She would come and get stats and at the table and stuff like that. Very pleasant, very talkative all you know. I always had fun talking to her and stuff. But yeah, right, and here's a thought too. And I don't know if you can answer this, because you probably can't you're not part of the administration. But a lot of changes happened with the coaching staff over the last few years. Right, Um, I don't
know if that's a good thing. I'm just throwing this out here. I don't know if there's a good thing. I don't know it's a bad thing. I just it's the thing. It's a thing, and you know it's too. It seems to me that it's it's you know, a coaching staff
is a lot like a team. Right if if you if you don't have coaches that you feel you can con on to do what you need them to do, then you're gonna want to change coaches too, just like you you know, you change players, just like Dean Sanders went in and wiped out you know, everybody in Colorado who didn't think they could do what he needs them to do. So it's neither they're here nor there in in a good way or a bad way. I I don't think, yeah, I know what I'm saying. No, Yeah, I can't. I think it's I
think it's a DA or whoever. Right, there's there's a there's a coaching change going on at another sport that we'll talk about and breaking news waiting for official confirmation. But um, you know, you your team. You've got your team, or you've got your coaching staff. Now the whole thing makes up your team. But if your coaching staff is in all in, you know, in one place, then your team isn't going to be either true
true. You gotta see, I kind of get a sense of idea is looking for certain types of people, tries them out and then if they don't work, she she'll pull the trigger, and yeah, I gotta go get somebody else, right, And that's kind of where I was going. There's a lot of change, both on the court and in the administration. Yeah,
I agree, I totally agree. And I think one of the things that's that shows the signs of a good program or a good to anything family, whatever is the continuity the stability, right right, you gotta have you gotta have that. You gotta have that and not to see this isn't happening. But there's a lot of change there there is. It really is. All right, Let's take our break. We got a load of guests. We got Brandon Sanders coming in to talk of some things around airs on a
football, particularly the football camps coming up this summer. And he'll be followed right after that by hurt his chin the head coach of the Pie, so stick around for all of that. You were a football player and now one of the big alumni guys with the program. How are you, Brandon? I'm doing great. How are you guys doing? We're doing fine. We love your energy, love your energy. Let's still make us run a lap or two because we'll fall apart. I'm on the move man. We got clumber camps coming.
I know, I know that's one of the things. How many kids you have going? And what's the enthusiasm about? Oh gosh, were as long as you guys hear me? All right, kids coming? We have, um, let's see, we have our first camp. I think there's probably about two hundred and fifty three hundred kids. High school kids are seven on sevens are full. We can't even take anymore. I barely have woom to feel any what we have. And uh, and then our youth camps
are are are getting up there. Man, it's amazing right now. So so the what when to these camps? When's the first camp? And who gets to come to that? Give me once, you know what, Give me one second. I'm gonna make sure I get you guys right, give me one second. It's a busy guy, funny thing. He's always running. We're roaming around the field world. Okay, can't hear me? All right? Yeah that's good. Okay, So I'm looking at your schedule.
You have the high School Elite Prospect camp coming up on June fourth. That's that's the first camp. Yeah we have. Yeah, so our high school camp is June fourth, we have our we have our seven on seven June fifth, we have a Tuesday Night under the Light Youth camp June. Uh what is that, dick? And then we have a kicking camp actually on June. We have a kicking camp on June. Hey, so and so
most most of these are one day camps. Were we're uh athletes common you know, spend some time or are there any of these camps multiple days? How did these things work? Yeah? So for us, we didn't get any. We didn't do any multiple multiple day camps. Um, just for travel and everything else. I think you've made it a lot simpler. Um. So these are one day camps. So yeah, these are one day camps. And and uh, we we're pushing it. So let me ask
you. You talked about being kind of full. Are there any because people are listening obviously, then you might have a kid who might want to go. Is there a chance to get into one of these? Yes? So so our high school camps, we have one what I say, June fourth, in June eleventh, right, Um, those are open. We'll be taking walk ups as well. Um. Also, as you know, it's crazy because I have some kids from from Costa Grand Um. And some youth
organizations they're they're bringing in the Amphi school Adjustris coming as well. Our kids are sending kids as well. Um, we have our youth camps the twenty feet of June and the good is at the sixth of June. Those are open um lots of fun uh and everything else and then and then they're open. So all those are open. Only thing that's closed right now is our seven on seven and line line. That's the that's the June fifth camp under the lights, right, yeah, June for June fifth, in June twelve.
Sorry man, I'm ripping and running at the same time, so is pulled over. So yeah, June fifth, in June twelfth, those those are are are completely booked. We got some some schools from out of town from California coming. We have what three I think our count is so three state state champions h will be here at three Arizona state champions will be here in town. Plane. Yeah, So let me ask you what what's the what are the objective objectives of the camps? Right, there's got to be
multiple. You get to see some kids, you get them familiar. Well, what are all the objectives of running these camps? So for for for us, I mean we want to one, we want to we want to expose a lot of of from youth all the way up to you know, high junior high, I mean high school and and even junior college and transfer uh you know, men to our campus, get them to see our campus, getting them to see the beautiful things that you have in Tucson, because
they'll come down and they'll see you know, restaurants and everything else. And then also get them around our staff and for youth camps, to get them around our players. I think, um, I think it's important for people to understand that Arizona. You know, as much as we're a private university, we're a community school. Tucson is a great community and it gets to
a chance to see exactly what we have here. So so you mentioned the players, so the players can take part in these Has that always been the case or I know our players, our players, our players are actually uh if you want to call them camp counselors. Okay, So our staff will run and our and our players will be in here helping run our run our camps, especially our youth ones. We have. We'll probably have twenty to thirty of our our players work in those camps and getting out here with these
uh, with these young young kids. Sorry. Our youth camp is first grade to fifth grade, and then we have a junior high camp sixth to eighth grade. I've seen some of the highlights on the The kids are really young kids. It's more about having fun kind of maybe just spending time with other kids and enjoying what you guys provide. And the biggest he's exposing them to not just Arizona football, but football as well. So you know,
I think some people attack attack to football in general. You know, football is under attack. And I think you when you see this is this is the greatest. And I'm not partial to it. I think this is the greatest you know, team sport that you can be in. And so when you look at when you look at that and exposing young kids, So even if even if your kid hasn't played football for the youth, I'm talking about our you know we have female uh you know, we have girls, we
have boys. Everybody should I think be a part of what we have in our youth, our junior high. We're gonna run that this year a little bit different. We're gonna have that evaluation is kind of like we do our high school this year. So we'll be doing forties and in timing and doing those kinds of things where you'll get a chance to you know, get that step up and uh and get some training and everything else. And then of course our high school we'll be evaluating when you come to our camps. Um,
if you've seen in the past, I mean we do. We'll give there. There are kids that earn offers to Universe Arizona at our camps, which doesn't happen at a lot of other camps. Let me ask about the youth camp. Okay, the first youth camp. So this is first through fifth grade under the lights, June sixth of uh. It's five to eight or three hours, sixty bucks. You bring your kid, what you run me through what that camp is gonna look like? What's what's a parent going
to see when they bring their third grade or to the camp. What do they get to do? So our uh? Well, so we'll start out. We'll start out with you know, our normal agilities, and then we'll take them through a offensive section where they can you know, learn learn different skill positions, whether it's UM, whether it's you know, quarterbacks, running backs, receivers dB and you know, all all the offensive um positions. Um. Then we'll take a break, so we'll do agilities and then we'll
do an offensive section. Then we'll do a defensive section and um, and then we'll and then we'll come back and then we'll uh and then we'll put put put them in teams, and we have what's called wildcat wildcat ball, So then you know, we'll have teams and then they'll do some competition with wildcat ball, which is basically, uh if I had to shorten it up his basketball on grass, how about and and uh and you know, and
then we'll finish that up. We'll have some you know some some uh some races where kids can get uh, you know, extra items from you know, they all everybody comes gets a T shirt and so about you. UM. But then now they'll they'll also be able to race for hats and race for any other kind of uh special items that we may be able to give out for MVPs and those kind of things. And then we finish it off with some uh multiple ice cream, right ice cream popped and everything else.
So it's pretty cool. So let me let me give you a quick compliment or take it one as one. Uh, you or the swarmer. You've a stud football player, NFL guy, kind of a tough guy. You come back. Uh, you do a lot of different things at the high school level. Fantastic job. And now you've fallen into this, into this position, and you've done fantastically well. Uh. And I say that's because over the spring game you had tons of people here enjoying their time and in
part because you brought them in. Thank you. I appreciate that we're trying. I think, Um, you know, when you look at the things that coach Fish is done, He's opened up the doors. Sorry, he's he's opened up the doors for us to to to come in with our community and in our alumni community. He's done those things that And and I think when when people feel that that they're welcome, more people will come. And we still have some we still have some work to do with our lump because
of the years of just having not not having the doors open. But when you look at the practices that we have that are open from spring ball to fall camp, when you look at, you know us, what we're trying to do here, I think it's it's a it's an easy seal, you know what I mean, you know, and that seemed to be I mean jedge Fish started doing that from day one. If I recall, uh, you know, remember we talked to a couple of and you might have even been one of them that we talked to, uh, you know, right
after he got here. And people are saying that he seems to be very welcoming, he wants to see it, seems that he wants to get everybody back. But over the last couple of years he's actually done that, So people aren't skeptical of that anymore. Would you agree with that? Absolutely? I think the one thing and you're always gonna have the skeptics, right,
but I think there's one guy. He always says, I see better than I can hear it, right, and and you're seeing it, um, better than someone just telling you about it, and and and and coach coming in and saying these are things I want to do. And then he goes, did I think these are kind of the things that you see? Um.
You know, we have a we have an event. We're going I'm about to go pick Ricky Hunley up and we're gonna do in Phoenix, and we have some some some prominent alum that are gonna be at this thing. And it's it's the it's the inclusive for Arizona wildcast but the you know, but the opening of doors to our community of Wildcat community and trying to bring more people in. I think when recruits and our teams see that, it
makes them even more inviting to our public. So let me ask you of all the people you had for springing game, who was the coolest dude to see you probably haven't seen in a one on one? And too, who was the most difficult guy to get here? Who got here? Wow, I'm gonna say the coolest that I had that that was the first time I had met this. I'm talking about this year because I do him by year. This year was gonna be h Bruce Hill quarterbacks from the nineteen from the
seventies team, quarterback that seventy seventy three wax champion team. I had never met him, hadn't even read about him. He's one of the you know, first African American quarterbacks h here at University of Arizona and definitely um one or the few in the nation at that time. But to read the things that he did as as his accomplishments was incredible. So that was one of the coolest. One of the hardest, I think to get here got to be he was, He's our captain. It's got to be. It's got
to be Chris McAllister. But yeah, uh, you know, it's hard to get in touch with him for certain people. And you know, and he's a great guy. I've known him forever. Scenes like um, but but you know, he hadn't been in touched the soil of the University of Arizona in a long time. So that was one of the toughest to get here. And and we got him here, and that's that's a that's a
tribute to to our program and what what we're trying to do. Yeah, those are two really great names of guys that you know, because I mean, I grew up here, right I thought, you know, I was sitting in the in the nod whole section when when Bruce Hill was playing here and just before were fascinated by that guy. We talk about a rocket arm and then of course Chris McAllister. I saw the promo video that you guys did promoing the the spring game, and I'm like, he looks like he
could still play. I mean, holy cow, and he was great on the show. Yeah, we had him on the show and he was awesome. Oh yeah, yeah, he probably could still play. So so, um, you know, you've got a summer, a lot of stuff to do. You're gonna do these camps and then in the meantime, guys are working and and uh getting ready for I mean, it's it's gonna come up quickly, right We're running out of basketball, we're in baseball season, and

How about your sell? We're doing well. You guys run a role. Nice game on nice win last weekend. Yeah, I appreciate it. That was a big one in front of the home proud So you know, Pat, Pat Harrison and I were talking it just seemed and you tell me, you know, because we know we kind of sit on the side, but it
seemed like probably your most complete game of the year. Everything worked for you had some big special teams plays. Your offense looked good, your defense you had some stops. Ramon Atkins had what I thought was his best game of the year. But just tell us if you how you came out of that feeling about the things that you were able to do in this game, and the way you sort of put a whole lot of stuff together, I felt
great. So a couple of things I was saying, you know before last week's game was, you know, when you put a team together, sometimes it don't happen on your time, and as a coach, that's things you gotta live with. But last week was the first time this season that I agree with you on that one. That everything came together, especially teams click offense click was really efficient. We had one hiccup the whole game as far as not scoring a touchdown. Defense came to play and did well help them
the forty two points. So everything came together that game, and that was a game that I wanted our players to see facing a pretty good in the well coached ball club and two falls heard us. I never agree with Jay, So don't feel so bad. Hey. I did a story on the
ramone Atkins up a couple of weeks ago. A very nice kid. And I say this because he played at a small school where I kind of grew up, and I'm thinking, how does this guy get out of there to come here to be a pretty good player at the at the indoor indoor league. What's special about him? What do you like about him? Just stick with it, he poised. He's persistent when it comes to um, you
know, I'm figgering things out. He won't quit. He won't give up, no matter how much I give give in on him, or how much screen I put on him, or hey, Ramon, you gotta come in and meet somewhere with me. It doesn't matter. Ramone is here for he is up for every challenge. So and I'm there basically to back him up and as well as his teammates to tell him to hold his head up in
any situation. So it was a beautiful thing to see him come around last week, finally get comfortable in the system that we're running here, and just to come from where he was at too now is a big thing for him. And just to get eyes on this kind of talent that he has and continue to develop it is beautiful. Well, well, let me ask you that because I'd love, you know, I'd love for you to elaborate on that, because you said, I mean he had no picks. He ran
the offense really well. He's very efficient. He had had you know, some turnovers in the in the previous games and that you know, three game losers, fick that you have. What did click for him? What did you see that he did different that that that he didn't do in the other
games where he had some troubles, just some of the think. One of the major keys for the last game is he let the plays actually develop, so before you know, he just still his clock was sped up in his mind, so he would rush the ball out and that would not let you know, receivers d what they're supposed to be. Sometimes defenders don't even get
in their drops enough for him to distinguish coverage. So this game, I just told him, hey, how about you just relax, have fun with it, let the players develop, and just get your feet set and you'll be on time. So that was the major difference. That's what everyone saw in this game. He was able to just take his drop, set his seat, let the players develop and don't feel mentally rushed, and they came out and they worked for him. So he's get to be out of the
game this year. But in your first year, now are you able to have fun? Is still work or you know, for the first half of the season it's fun involved. Yet the fun was involved throughout this whole process. Honestly, I wouldn't do this if it wasn't for fun, if it wasn't for helping young men, developing young men on and off the field, I wouldn't do this personally. So it is fun. If you can ask any of our guys the locker room, the practice field, even when I
get on them in the midst of that, it's still fun. We I still want our guys to play, loose, to play, to have fun with this. And one thing I tell these gentlemen is to never let me, a fan, or anybody take their joy and love they have away from their games. That comes with, you know, the times that we do lose three games in a row. So me and as well as them, I demand that we actually had a fun out there, just an observation heard us and Steve. You know, after that loss, the home loss,
that was your third straight loss, you had it. You had a huge smile on your face after that game, and I'm like, what's it smiling about? They just got they just lost at home. But uh, you know, but then you know, you had another big smile this uh, you know, this last game after beating uh, you know, after winning that after beating Sioux Falls, which you know, we made the point at the top of the broadcast Soux Falls is like the Patriots of the IFL.
You got a million championships and stuff. So that was an impressive win. I don't know how how much the fans realized how impressive it was to beat the Sioux Falls Storm. Yeah, especially you know, they just really hit their scribe. They're playing, you know good. I actually got a call from a couple of other coaches around the league telling me like, hey man, we thought that was gonna come down to the wire as a nailbody. Uh, y'all played pretty good. So even you know, some times fans
don't know or aren't aware of situations like that. But it is refreshing to hear you Jay say that, because a lot of people wouldn't to wear how good they are and half been and how well coached that team is. You also played, Jake said without your running back, right, Mike Jones, So how did that affect the game? And a couple of things. So you know, when it comes to Mike Jones and Ben Jones, they you know, Mike Jones has a little bit more power and he's a little bit
more crafty when it comes to finding holes. When you talk about the run game, Ben Jones is more so. But get it and go guy. So you just kind of got to tweak the run game a little bit. When Mike Jones is not back there will he be back Saturday? Yes, he'll be playing this week. Okay. So you guys have the Bay Area Panthers. The league is all bunched up top to bottom. Two games separate the entire Divisi. Your division of the West Division, the Barrier Panthers are
five and three. You're four and three at the bottom of the at the bottom of the division, San Diego and Duke City you are both three and five. So it's all bunched up. Every game is a big game. You beat these guys on the road at their place. You know, how does that play into what you gotta do this week? Now that you gotta make your place. We know that they're gonna come in hungry, They're gonna come they just be, you know, the number one team in the league.
They're the number two team in the league. So they're gonna come into this game really confident. They're probably gonna look back at the game we played them and seeing some mistakes that we probably made when we played them, and think they will exploct those mistakes coming into this game. But we all were in the situation. We know that this is for you know, first place, and we want to pound up those wins on the front end of our
season now at this midway point, so we're on the back end. You know, of course, how it is, people are gonna be scrambling and get in the playoffs late. We just don't want to be one of those teams, right. We're very aware of the situation. So we're gonna put our best foot forward. Also, so another big thing about to win this last weekend was you guys had a big crowd, biggest crowd of the year.
You know, probably impressed some people. I'm sure you're hoping that a lot of those people who were there maybe had never been there before and now they're like, oh this is great, Like I get to come back. How important was that or is that on your mind ever at all? Thinking about an opportunity like that when you get a crowd like you had, Yes, it's on my mind. I addressed it to the team. I make them aware of those things also, just that it comes with the game.
It comes with the support with the community. You know, just like you know, we want to support of the community. We want to put a good product out there also, So we were aware of it. I was, and I made an announcement to the coaches and players like, hey, this is the time. Let's set the tone for the remainder of the season. From a crowd standpoint, Let's give them something to cheer on, something to be excited about, and something to come back and support the remainder of
the season. All right, one last question, I want to ask you about your defense. One of the top defenses in the league. You know, whether it's right or wrong, you've got the reputations being an offensive coach, you were the offensive coordinator last year. But you've got a very good defense that it seemed to me to be pretty stable. We see the same guys out there week after week. Tell us a little bit about how key
that's been for you guys. That's huge. That's very huge. So when it comes from a communication standpoint on the front end and the back end and from the linebacker, having that consistency on the defense is huge because that also comes with trust. When you got consistency on the defensive end that comes with, hey, I trust this guy to do his job, so I can put more focus into doing my job. When you have guys in and out every week, from a defensive standpoint, you feel like, hey, I
have to coach him up on the field. After the coach give us a call, I have to make sure he's in the right position. So sometimes that might take me out of my position. So having that consistency is key, just on the defensive front and doing like, Hey, if I if I played with this guy a couple of weeks and he goes inside, I know, boom on third down he might go inside, So now I won't
illegal twist whether versus I don't know them. The guy he comes in this week and he does something I'm not familiar with that can get hostilities that can get us busted plays and big plays. But that consistency has been key and I'm trying to keep it that way up. So yeah, well, Hurnus, well, appreciate your time, good luck, and hope you get a good crowd there. Okay, yeah, yeah, so that hernis, we appreciate the time. Um, I'll I'll see you on Saturday, right six
o'clock. Bay Area Panthers at the arena. I gotta get the fans out there, right, sounds big hurts. Thanks, Okay, sounds a lot of enthusiasm with him. Huh, I'm not lying. Okay. They they lose, uh, you know, a home game. It was a it was a tough loss. And yeah, you know, we we get him on camera at the end of the game. He still had this big old smile on his face and he felt like, Okay, he's gonna go into the locker room. I mean, he's not gonna be happy, but as
he said, he's still trying to get these guys to have fun. Because if they're not having fun, then it's it's not uh you know, it's it's tougher and they're in a bunch, you know. Again, as I said, with the standis Bay Area in northern Arizona. The team out of Presscott are both five and three. Sugar Skulls are four and three UM and then the Rattlers are four and four, but they got their quarterback back, so they're they're we're gonna start here from them. Vegas is four and four.
In San Diego and Duke City, the Albuquerque team are three and five, so that whole division. Division is bump bunched up. Four teams make the playoffs and you want and you want to be one of the top two. The host of games, it's a it's a huge game on Saturday. Okay, Okay, hope hopefully there's a good crowd there. Yeah, and
we'll see what happens. So it's a lot more fun when there is UM real quick getting back, so we we didn't we didn't run through all the camps for uh uh the Jet Fishers camps so as as Brandon Sanders said, on June fourth, which is next week, they've got their first UM high school camp. It's uh it's uh June fourth, five to eight. You can register and check in at four UM it's forty five bucks. Then they have another one it's called a high School Elite Prospect Camp. They have another
one of those on June eleven. They've got a specialist camp. On June eighth, they have a junior uh No. The two youth camps. One is June sixth under the lights. Uh that's for first two fifth graders. One is June twenty feet that's in the morning. Then they got a junior junior high camp on June twenty first also, and then there are seven on seven which that one might be fun to, you know, to spectator a little bit. Can you go I wonder if you could go in you can
say one of those is my kid? Do you have UM? Do you have UM? A website? Can they just? Yeah? So the website is coach Fish Football Camp dot com. So the fish is spelled f I S c H in case you don't know that by now, but it's coach Fish Football Camp dot com. You can sign up for your camps there and as as Brandon said, I think the only one that is sold out is the seven on seven team camp on June twelfth, which is an evening camp, so that's under the lights, so that's the most popular camp. Cool
cool, cool, okay stuff. We have about three minutes. If you want to get a quick calling, please do five two, four, one, six, seventy four forty before we have a breaking news on the beginning of the hour, and then we'll have Randy as secta after that. Yeah. So Celtics heat man, what are you doing tonight? Anything? No? Not touch you. I don't like that series at all. Who's one of the ESPN guys said that he's celtinks Boston's gonna win the series, win
the series. Yeah, one hundred and fifty, one hundred and fifty zero. With with teams that have it's only ever happened, but never any team it's happened. It's happened one time time the Red Sox beat Uh, yes, baseball, it's never happened in basketball. But um Celtics, fine to say that seems like a lot. Uh it's in Boston. Yeah, no, I wouldn't touch any of that. I'm just waiting for Denver. Come on, Denver, just kind of taking a break, laying on the you
know, laying out by the pool right now and having fun. Yeah. Right. And the first thing that people are gonna say, June June first one they playne first June first. They were rusty, and come on, there's no such things. You know what you get to this time of the year. Every day off is a good day. You know, you take your rest and take time off and yeah, and uh, people over analyzing things. I mean again, you know it's a long season. Man.
If you get some time off and then you just get back on the court and stuff, do you you know that's what that's what you want to be able to do. I'm sure they're not complaining about the days off, worried that they're gonna get worried that they're gonna get rusty. Sure noways all right, okay, so what else, Steve? Um? That's that's it's at least for a while. Um. See, well, I'm looking forward to your breaking news because I know what you're gonna have for at least a couple
of other things. A whole bunch of stuff, a lot of good stuff. There's some some some interesting stuff, some some memorabilia stuff that I'd be interested to get to. George's opinion on what it's a really interesting sale that took place today. Okay, you know what is it? Well? No, no, I'm gonna tell him, um to give us a call. Do you have a lot of stuff? Uh? The reason why if he can maybe give us a quick call and whatever you say. Karl Malone sold
a bunch of Olympic Dream Team gear. Okay, so that's collected, don't say anymore. I'm gonna try to reach out, maybe give us a quick call. So he made a lot of money off of it. When you think about what, you know, what he did to get it because he you know, he was part of that team. So it's it's a very interesting story. But yeah, so um, a bunch of stuff there.
But uh, you know, I continue to be fascinated by all of that, and I've never been a believer that all that thing, that stuff holds value, but apparently does right, And it's the thing is my problem is I keep on to it too long, and then by the time it's but time, I you know, it's not value too much for your jeans. I hear you, man, I hear you. Okay, let's uh, let's go and take our our first break of the day, our next break of the day. I should say, um, we're gonna come back.
We got breaking news. And then Randy said, we'll talk about run two sons and their event this falling conjunction with the twenty two. Soon we got I think the real interesting conversation too coming up about ESPN. So okay, so stick around for all of that. We've got some good stuff coming
