Steve Bravera and Jacin Sales. They have their eye on the ball on Tucson Sports Station. Yet Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Hey, welcome back to I the Ball here a Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, he's Jay. Now we have Adam with breaking news, his eye on the ball, breaking news on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Look at that. He already got that part right, So far, so good. All right, Adam, what do you got? So? The first thing I saw was the Cats set

the school record. They took second place in the two hundred medley relay swimming swim men men or women men men? All right, this was a school records at eight hundred freestyle relay in which all the teams got a chance to be on the podium spot. And since twenty thirteen, uh, eleven years later, the wow, that's a big deal, given that the men's team or all the swimming teams have been pretty I mean they've over they have had world record holders over the year. So yeah, that's that's a cool one.

It is Delaney Schnell still, she's she's just getting ready. Okay, the diver all right, yeah, okay, Next what I saw U of A obviously beat Washington last night, and women's they take on USC. Who's next in the fact twelve tournament? Just kind of sing your thoughts on what you guys think. Well, you know, you'd like to think that they played him so well the other night, but they're not going to sneak up

on USC, like maybe they might have last week. Right, sure, No, if anything, USC is going to be very ready for you. You could have seventy Yeah, yeah, you know, but who knows? You know, who knows what a little momentum does for you? Steve the ask you, Well, I don't because we'll laughing joke about this old Okay, good luck with that moment. There was an article who are the top fifty players and packed twelve women's basketball history? Arizona had two members. Oh

okay, number nineteen was I think it was number twenty one. We had Ari McDonald yep, Arry McDonald yep. I got yelled at for calling her Ari yes, yes, and then fifteen Barnes idea Barnes. Barnes is number fifteen on the list. So yeah, that's pretty respectable. I thought when I was reading it yesterday the day before, I'm thinking that Arry might be higher, But then you read the list was higher than who? Right? Who You're gonna put her ahead of? Right? Who? You say?

I haven't seen? Who was number one? Number one? Was Cheryl Miller, Shan Miller, Lisa Leslie, yes, yes, yes, yes, and then Cheryl Miller. Cheryl Miller is not on this list that come on. Maybe it's because it's packed twelve may oh is it? I don't know, but now, but Cheryl Miller played when it was pack ten. There were so many players I can't remember who was on the number two list I had on this list? Uh Kent's pronounce her name the kiak? Oh yeah

yeah she does. I think she one that does the ESPN stuff. Okay, this is this is packed twelve history, that's why. And and Cheryl Miller was was pre packed. It was still packed ten. Yes, so this is so this is just since No, that's not true because Lisa Leslie was prepacked. Yeah, so Cheryl Miller not on there. She might be later on. Tina Thompson. It's pretty nine escu. I thought I saw her name. No, no, no, no, who did this list?

Yeah? Come on? Man? Actually the ESPN W list, So uh, we'll have to go look into Lisa Leslie, uh, the kid, the girl from Stanford, and then Kelsey Plumb obviously the score and chan oh here it is here, it is here, it is here. It is the pack the Uh she she played before uh, the NC double A started doing women's sports. It was it was the year after shiel Miller was done. So it's only considered, you know, Uh, the nineteen eighty six eighty seven academic year. The it wasn't a it wasn't a pack.

The PAC twelve women's basketball was not a PAC twelve or PACK ten oh Okay league. It was a it was a like a West Coast Conference league or something like that. So shiel Miller, that's why she is not on the list. Neither is Anne Meyers, neither Cynthia Cooper. It was the Western Collegiate Athletic Association. Uh, and then it became the Pack West and its finally year and then it joined the PAC ten and it was after they were gone. So that's why she's not on the list. Another news, college

basketball, Indiana's retaining Mike Woodson's despite their poor season. Good luck with that. He's not a good coach, you know, and say he got ripped for saying something about a style of basketball, just kind of sticking to a style of basketball. Yeah, like last week or last week, and the people are saying he should be fired just for saying that. Yeah, he's

not a good night. I couldn't tell you what it was, but it was clear, you know, just a kind of a plodding, you know, stiff kind of yeah, those dud system that nobody wants to play anymore. And then he's he still believes that's the way you win games. People saying just for that alone, he should be fired. Well didn't didn't The guy that there was only had four years ago the same thing. Yeah a little bit. Yeah, but he but he but he remade himself. So

yes, yeah, well you know what the bio was for him? Twelve million for them, that's probably nothing. You know, I wouldn't. I wouldn't guess that Indiana has a ton of money their football program and all that great for basketball though they they live and breathe. When I told you that they played Arizona in the Vegas Member last year, and I told you their blue blood was blue blood because five minutes to explain everything in Arizona went through

like twin seconds. The feudal final force. But but I'm sure they have people, but twelve million, and guess what, who are you gonna get? They just fired Archie Millery before this guy. They did, they did, they did other college news. College football's early signing period it has moved up three weeks, uh will now previously from mid December. Now it's going to be preceding conference championship games starting this year. That's probably to avoid something

or to to make something happen because of all the moves. And then you need to know who's coming, who's going. Yeah, yeah, I think because so many teams end their seasons, you know, before the conference championship games, they want to know who's leaving, who's staying, all that kind of stuff. Yeah. I think there's a movement though to get ri of the early signing period altogether and just have it go back to the signing period

in February. But who knows with all the all the stuff that they're talking about. You know what I was, I was listening to a podcast today talking about it. You know, if if if athletes are going to be employees, particularly football are going to be employees, to have a draft and

get rid of recruiting draft by conference. So you say, let's say you're a football player, you're like a great football player, and you say, okay, I'm going to put my name into the draft or the SEC or I'm gonna put my name into the draft for I don't I can't imagine it would work, because then how do you tell a kid who's smart enough to go to Stanford, well, you didn't get drafted by Stanford, You're going to you know, Tennessee State or whatever. Right, I can't see how

that would ever. They ignowed, They said, look, this is just a conversation that acknowledged this could probably never ever happen. Plus the conferences would have to come together to decide how to do that. But it was fun. It was just an interesting conversation things that will never happen. Yeah, but it was just a conversation of but this is the extent to what people are thinking about in terms of what's going to happen to to the to athletics.

Just you know what, to break out football and be done with it. That's what Eventually, that's what's going to break it out, do what however you want, and and let it fund the other you know, the other programs in your in your university and go back to where you were with the other programs, or maybe football and basketball. I don't know. I don't know. One thing that worries me is what they're gonna do to the NCAA tournament with all this stuff. You know, they want to add another

you know, they want to add another another thirty two teams. That too, is basically another weekend of games. So now it's it becomes a four week tournament and everybody and their brother gets in this total the total money grab. That's all it's about. It. It's not about anything else. It's certainly not about making the tournament better, because it doesn't make it better. It's it's good. Just it's great, just the way it is, all right. In a couple of NBA news, Karl Anthony Towns of the Minnesota

Timberwolves. They are the league leading in the West. He's reportedly torn his meniscus, so we don't know how that will go going forward for them. That's a big blow Introjectionally, that reminds me of the of the of your adding the teams another thirty two teams to the men's basketball tournament. It's like addie, you have a bad marriage. Let's have another kid. Uh, let's have another kid. It will be great. We'll become more, we'll

be to each other. I can't use that example because I thought we were done it too, and then we had a third and I and I have to if you don't say I don't say anything. I love heard it dead, but you I know what you're saying. Hey, we've got ten kids, let's have one more. I'm Philip Rivers. Yeah, okay, all right. And then lastly, Ben Simmons reportedly out. Yeah. Ben Simmons reportedly out for the season. Once again. I'm shocked. I just fell

off my chair and I'm shocked. Pick me up. Was he even playing this year? He was sporadically playing a lot of games. He'd play one, miss a few. How much How cool of a job would you would you have if you played sometimes and sometimes mostly not for five or six years like he's done. And when you played, you suck. I mean maybe

not suck, but you know you're not that good. He had a very promising starts his career too, And it's just kind of crazy how that's kind of three money kind of I guess they still pay him right, yeah, yeah, oh yeah, he's still making a bunch of money, you know, in the trade and he's still getting all that money. You would never never Jay, I know you, if you was available to you to play, you would never get him on your team. Absolutely, you know,

big draft, I'd be a I wouldn't be afraid to shoot god. It's it's crazy that but you know that. That's you know, that's what it is. You know what are they? I mean, they're still paying Bobby Bonia to not play? Right? Well, you saw tell me explain to me the Denver quarterback Russell they've lost eighty are they paying them eighty four eight five million and dead cap? So they kind of have to yeah, pay that or they can't. They don't have that allotment to pay on the guys,

right, So look at that. How much money you must you be making if you own a franchise and eighty four million? Okay, we won't worry about me. Let me go check the seat the seatback seat of my car. That's the equivalent of the eighty four million to them. Yeah yeah, well, how they not sign them to the two year contract extension? You'd be afraid agent? Probably this year. Yeah, so tough tough break for them. Who says there's no money in this world. It's all over

the place. You just don't have any of it, right, any of it? Okay? Anything else? Know that? That was it for good? All right? Nice job, very good, very good. Oh I thought you had the the Jake Paul. Oh yeah, Jake Paul is reportedly going to fight Mike Tyson. So that has that may said? Any about how much money these guys are getting for that or anything like that. I'm uh not that I saw, but I mean, if Mike Tyson's gonna fight,

it's gotta be okay, how much would they have to pay? You, Steve to take a punch in the face for Mike Tyson, or take a bunch of punches in the face for I couldn't. I wouldn't do it. I couldn't do it. I couldn't do it. He's fifty seven millions. You can take him. You run it around the ring, you know what. I you know what, I take my punch and go down and

be done with it and hope that I live to tell about it. Yeah, plea to tell about it, because you know I love that that scene in the movie the hangover when he punches the he punches the what's his name, uh, Doug Black guys and drops him right there and they're like he took a punch from Mike ty said, I mean that's cool, but I can't even imagine. Yeah, that'd be it'd be fun with gloves. I

would put my money on. I feel like you would kill me. Oh yeah, you would be like I would get killed or would have a good chance of getting killed. So I don't know anyway that that's an interesting When When is that fight? July July? Just sometimes in July we nowhere, no Vegas. I'm assuming no, yes, no, it's gonna be streamed on Netflix. That's right, twentieth at Dallas at AT and T Stadium in

the stadium. Yeah, in the stadium. Party so out, yeah you think so oh yeah, people go yeah, oh yeah, that's how crazy it would be. Come on, Jake Paul. Here's a here's a quote by I guess uh one of the organizers, Jake Paul versus Mike Tyson is a once in a lifetime dream matchup and I anticipated it will be the most watched boxing event in modern boxing history. Who said that I wouldn't doubt that. Uh, come on, and watching a fifty seven year old guy boxes

is the event of a box. I would say yes because they're both polarizing and and he probably want Mike Teston to kick the crap out of the Jake Paul Kind Uh, I would have show. Yeah, and Mike Tyson they still he still beloved. Have you do you watch his podcast? We listen to that stuff. No, it's it's very good. I'm like, I don't dislike Mike Tyson, but I feel like if I watched I would get

dumber. Right, But he's very insightful, very I've watched a few things and he's very He's not the Mike Texon we know or you Yeah, No, I know that, and I've seen him on some other stuff. I'm not gonna watch his podcast. He's very philosophical, which makes no sense, but he is. Uh, but I would. I would. My mortgage is going on that Netflix. It's on Netflix. Yeah, I'll give you my I'll give you my account, I give you my sign on you can. Okay, he didn't say that, mister Netflix. He didn't say that.

Steve Rivera and Jagen Saliz they have their eye on the ball on Tucson's sports Stag yet Fox Sports fourteen fifty streaming live im the iHeartRadio wapp Hey, welcome back to winding the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, He's Jacobs Awes and I on the vote. We have a former U of A basketball star, Joe Nels. Joe How are you doing great? Doing great? How are you guys? We're doing well. It's been a

while since we've spoken to you on the show. Good to have you on there. We wanted a wax poetic and think back to the time when the Pack eight was ten and you were a part of that. How was it back then? Well, my first year we're in the WHAC Conference Western Athletic and then we moved to the PAC twelve and it was tailgate stickers said,

back to casts, whack the pack. I remember that. Unfortunately the pack is no longer going to be and it's kind of sad after one hundred years, but uh yeah, it was quite the experience though, going to UCLA, especially with John Wood and the great coach there ten national championships, seven in a row, eighty eight games in a row. Never never going to see those numbers again. Now now the decision and the vote to for Arizona to go into the pack? What was the pack eight became the Pack ten?

Was before you got here? Did you know that? Did you have a it was that part of the reason why you came here at all? Or were you thinking about that at all? No, not at all. I remember watching Arizona play Ucla. My senior year in high school. I could only dream about playing against the UCLA and being on a great team like Arizona. So no I had I had absolutely no bearing and it wasn't even

on the table then. Yeah, but you were, you know, I think you can probably hold you hold a car to somebody who beat was the first Arizona team to beat Ucla? Yeah, that was at home. It was pretty intimidating going to Paul. I can tell you that first time my sophomore year. That was right before we went into the PAC twelve and kind of had an exhibition game and seeing all the national championship banners and then John

Wooden and Coach Snowden were talking on the sidelines watching this practice. It was all kind of a blur before you actually went in there to be in the PAC ten at the time. And I asked this subject because I wasn't here. I didn't if you're at the time, did did people? Maybe the general public says, what are we doing? We're going to get butt kicked? And how did the athletes feel about that? I think that speaking for myself and the guys on our team, it was it was kind of a

step up. We thought in competition, you see, everybody had heard of UCLA and USC and play better. Competition will only make you better. So I think all the athletes look at it, looked at is a very positive step. Yeah. So think of going back to that first first home game. Did you did you play them at their place before that or was that the first time the league? I think I think we did, uh, And then we played him at home. We had a back to back Thursday

Saturday and we beat UCLA. I think they were number two in the country. And then we played USC It was number seven or eight at the time, and we beat them also. So that was probably the highlight of my

college basketball career right there. So thinking back to that game and they're coming to your place, you know, do you recall anything in the locker room, anything about the team, that week of practice, anything like that about that kind of led you to believe, Hey, you know, we got a really good shot of beating these guys, or we're going to beat these guys, or let's beat these guys. What was the approach, Well, you always have a positive mindset. Night, we had a really good week

of practice and we really felt like we could beat them. We felt very confident, even though I think the week before we got blown out by Oregon, so it was kind of unexpected. No one expected except all the guys on the team. We had a lot of positive vibes, and once we led, we almost gave it away at the end of the game. If I remember that my memory serves me right, we were trying to stall.

Coach Snowden liked to stall, and we turned the ball over. But fortunately John Smith hit a free throw and Keiky Vanderway almost made a last second shot over John Pelgrade. But we won by one. So that was That was definitely a fun time. So let me let me tell you how accurate you were. So the week before you lost or State at Oregon State one sixteen to eighty. Come, thank you, Steve. I'm just putting out, well, you bet. Oregon State also was in the top ten at the

time with five NBA players on the rocks. I'm just putting out because you were close. You were. Then you beat UCLA by one, and obviously and then USC the Spaghetti game, and then you you guys are living off that. You go to SU when you get beat Oh, I don't remember losing the issue. But thank you for being back on very bad memory. But also I have to say my first game I ever played at Arizona I got to play my sophomore year and they hit a game winner at Arizona State.

Well, he who was the game with your shot? No? I was saying in the in the u c l A game, didn't you hit the shot or a shot that tied the game before John John Smith made his freaquent. Yeah, you hit a shot from that that was a blur. I don't until I read the article, I don't remember that. But it was a baseline less less baseline jumper to tie the game, I think at seven. Yeah. And then and then you beat defensive stop on him, and then they filed Smith. He made the first or missed the second.

And then I remember Bella brading falling down. I'm like, oh god, we're gonna lose on a fall down and Kiki Vanderway missed the shot. I remember that. There you go. So let me ask you the question of the day that I won't you know, did you remember seeing a small short Mexican running rushing the court? Were you I didn't think you were born yet. That would be that would have been me. I rushed the court at that game. I don't know if I hugged you or hugged Larry Demic or

jumped on you or anything like that. But I was a student because I was a year behind you. And if you recall, the student section were in bleachers around three sides of the court, and the shot that you hit was right in front of me, and uh, and I remember, well, it's it's I can't remember stuff that far back. I couldn't. I can't remember what I had for lunch this today. But and my my buddy and I who were both you know there, we were on the court.

We rushed the court and I would think we would like gone up and patted you on the back or something like that. I don't know. Yeah, we we reveled in it. We stayed on the court for a while. But people asked me how many people actually went to spaghetti factory and redeemed the coupon. So I'd have to ask you, Jay, did you get your free piece of spaghetti and pizza? And in fact, we were talking about

that because they did that. The spaghetti company did that a couple of times and ended up ended up going bankrupt largely over that because remember they never thought we could beat the top ten ranked teams in the country, and we beat them both right and the the you know, the arena held a thousand more than it holds now. It held over fifteen thousand back there because there were a bunch of bleachers around the floor and so it had it had a higher

attendance. But oh yeah, and I went around collecting them. You know, people were dropped, he had dropped them and stuff like that. I went around and picked him up. I was in college, man, I was. I get many of those as I remember that. That was those fun times. That was definitely one of the highlights of my college career. Do you remember how many times there was a court storming in your career?

And I asked for reasons A few in my career. I mean, when we beat a su at Asu obviously there were enough you of A fans there, so that was a no. But U c L a USC those were the only two memorable ones. I don't think we really had any others in my career that I that I can remember. The reason I asked is because it's it's it's topical news. Now given the situation with did you feel back then? Can you remember it was all positive because it was friendly fans,

right, I guess it was everything to be okay. But if you were on some other court where it would have been tough. But I guess you know you had d J patting you on the back. Yeah, Jay, And you know, we felt it was at home. So I never experienced getting the court storm because we weren't that good in my day, so when people beat us, it was expected on the road, so we never had any wild celebrations. If Oregon State beat us or you know, ASU,

it really didn't matter. But I yeah, it's getting out of hand now with these students, so they very aggressive and hurting players and just I don't know what will happen, but something bad probably going to happen, and then they'll stop the storming of the courts. Yeah. So, Joe, So you know your basketball career ended, you became a fan. I'm assuming I know you did radio for a long time and stuff like that. But as

a fan and what's happened, you talked about it. You know it's sad, but growing up, I mean you grew up, you know, watching the Pac ten in the in the in the PAC twelve and now it's going to be gone. I mean, what what's going through your mind on that right now? Pretty sad to tell you the truth. I played basketball because I love the game. And now I hear what these college kids are getting

paid with nil money, and it's just astronomical. You know, three million, five million, and if you're not, if you're a great high school player, you can make two three four million. If you're Lebron james Son. You know, BRONI made a couple of million a year when he was in high school. Still, so it's it's definitely changed. And people say, well, don't you think you should be paid to play college sports? I said, we had a free education, free room and board. That's

worth quarter of a million dollars right there. That is that is getting paid in a roundabout way. So I don't know when it'll change. But all the when I played, they didn't have all the cable networks, and I think that's what changed the sport and so much money flying around. I don't know. It's it's sad to see one hundred years of the PAC eight, PAC ten, PAC twelve just evaporate, right, So we ask guys now who played the game at your level. I'm sure you watch you watch this

basketball still, how do you watch it painfully? It's you know, back in the day, you weren't allowed to carry the ball. Now, the way these guys reverse dribbles and hesitation dribbles, that's that's a definite violation. And the game now is morphed into basically a pick and roll game. Some games, like watching the last Arizona home game, it was like the opposing team was just not moving the ball, just standing and it was easy to

guard. And it's just it's changed a lot. I missed the game where you pass and cut and everybody touches the ball, and it's just I think it's a thing of the past. Yeah you do, you do you not like the game the way it is. I like the game up and down. I like the way Tommy Lloyd coaches kind of freedom. But that can also come back and bite you if you're not having a good game, and guys kind of get scatterbrained at times, as we all do. Playing.

You got to take a time out and kind of calm the troops, and sometimes I can come back and haunt you. I think this year we've played down to our competition at times. So people ask me, how do you think we're do in the tournament? I said, we can win it all or we can flame out in the first round. It just depends what team shows up well. Your thoughts are consistent like mine, because no when everyone when they played well, you say this is the team that could win it

all, and this is well. Conversely, it's the opposite, because if they don't show up, they don't play well. You being a shooter, being a shooter, and you've seen some shooters back in the seventies with Heurm Harrison and Cony Norman. Where would you put Caleb Love. I've never really considered him a shooter. He's a scorer, but I mean, I don't think he's a great shooter by any means. He's a great scorer. He's

got a tremendous amount of talent. He's not afraid to ever pull the trigger, so he's fearless, and he likes to be in the position of needing to score and wanting to score the ball. So my hat's off him. For those pressure situations, he seems to thrive and those presser pressure situations interesting. Yeah, I mean I know he's not the classic. You know, he's not the Selim start of Steve Kurse shooter shooter. He's a slasher driver, dunks the ball. I mean, I wouldn't consider him a great shooter,

interesting, but good enough to get them far. Oh. Absolutely, I mean I think that. I think he's one of the keys. But I think Boswell at the point, and even people forget about Pella Larson, and he plays really well. Cats typically play real well. But I think the real key is defensively, when they really get after you defensively and play good defense. They're they're tough to be. They can score the ball, but sometimes they don't play defense. Yeah, totally agree, Totally agree.

Oka, I'm gonna ask you. I'm gonna ask you question. I want an honest fance. Where does Joe Nell's rank among shooters at Arizona? Well, it's yeah, I'm I had run a nice care Uh. There was no three point line when I played. It was a long time ago, as you reminded me, six years old. Now hard to remember the college basketball without a three, or there was no three when I played. But I saw Corneil Norman. I did not play with Corneil, but Steve Kerr,

Coneil Norman, Celine Stottlem. I'm probably somewhere in the top ten. Okay, yeah, that's fair. Well, I think I actually, I think i'd probably put you at higher than that. Seriously, I mean you know i'd put after those three guys you storm the court. Jayson, you're biased. I just wonder, well you got free spaghetti on the house. A little biased. I was that guy that when they threw you the ball, I was yelling for you to shoot, no matter where you were,

seriously, no matter where you were, just shoot. He wanted to shoot too. But that's funny. At a lot of hours in the gym, boys, I can tell you, I bet shot. I bet. How long did you practice? I said, I don't have enough time, or it's thousands and thousands and thousands of hours. But I didn't consider practice because I loved the game. If I wasn't studying or playing golf for anything else,

I was playing basketball. Was your favorite shot from the corner? People ask me that I like the top of the key in the corner, and people all, I like to bank the shot. The square on the backboard is used for a reason, And people ask me, why don't people bank the ball anymore. I do not know. I was a John Wooden disciple, and he preached all his players use the backboard, use the backboard. Now guys don't use the backboard anymore, and I often wonder why. But

corner and top of the key were probably my favorite shots. Yes, you know who used the backboard more often now? Bollow not my design. I'm one last question? Who was the toughest or most impressive UCLA players? The player you went against? Oh gosh, that I played against. I mean I Ki Ki Vanderway. I mean he had a long, outstanding career, and I saw him a couple a couple of years ago up at the Sun's

game. So we were roommates in an All Star game. Super nice family, very athletic, just a great guy and fierce competitor on the court, but off the court, just a gentleman. So he was. He was one of the best. But oh gosh, there's so many good ones. He's the only one that really comes to mind that just really burned us every single game. Yeah, okay, well for one night you burned them back. That's right, one night. It'll stand in my memory as a highlight.

So and you fed Jay forever. Honestly, I think I I think I went there probably four times with coupons from from from that weekend. Hey, aren't you Yeah, okay, Joe, thanks for joining us. It was the pun. Thank you guys. I appreciate it, all right, see you later. But between you telling him he was old and me telling him that he was wrong, he never go back. Hey, he loves this. That was fun. That was really fun. I would have had and I would have probably I don't have a memory. Okay, I remember

rushing the court. I don't have a memory of what I did on the court. But you know, Joe was one of my favorite players on on on that team, and I would have sophomore I was a sophomore. I would have run over there and you know, hugged him or patted him only that after the game. Yeah, did you get drunk? I could have because it was age. You were of age. I was of age, Yeah I was. I was nineteen. Yeah, yeah, I was of age. Because nineteen I have no recollection. So maybe I did go get

drunk. I don't know, because it was it was it must have been a crazy time. It was a crazy time, and I'd have to look up the date. But I believe we'll look it up. I believe it was a Friday. It was. It was, it was eighteenth, and in the twenty second it said here, okay, team to January eighteenth and twenty second the twenty second was a Monday there and so probably not uci was a Thursday Thursday? you know, Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jay, and he's Adam. We have thirteen minutes. Adam is going to keep his eye on the ball and the light for us. Any guys want to call five two oh four one six seven four four zero talk about tonight's game, men's and or women's What do you think? Uh? You did you? I'm not sure you're gonna play it. But nine points is still I think the

number? Is that still the number I would I would take the number if I were you still a if I or you know, take the number. It's a lot of points. I think Arizona will win in a in a close game, a close game. Yeah yeah, I'm I'm kind of with you on that. Yeah yeah yeah. Okay, let me get you on the record because when I was gone, you said you hit the nail, or at least the true to form version of the win over Asu. So give me a dead give me your true deform version of this one. I

haven't even thought about it. I think Arizona wins. Actually, you know what, I think they cover? Which I think they cover because oh we have a collar. Okay, but we'll follow up on that. Hi are on the air and I on the ball. Hi, it's James, James. What's up? Not much? I have a quick question for you guys. Are you guys flying or driving up to Vegas for the PAC twelve. He's going He's going first class, fly first class on Southwest seat like C

fifty nine or something like that. I am flying, but Steve is driving driving. Okay, are you going up Wednesday? Or Thursday morning. I'm going up Wednesday with a group of hacks like me. Okay, nice, I'm having a debate with my buddies what time we should leave Thursday morning. Oh well, you know, you don't know until you find out when Arizona's playing, because they could play as early as noon on there. That's what I'm so, I'm thinking like four am or earlier. We would have to

leave by right, for sure? Yeah, for sure if you if they play at noon, you're gonna have one to leave by that time, and you're gonna have some some a whole lot of others too going up about that time. I'm sure, right, Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. My my buddies want to go like five, six o'clock, So that's not cutting close. Let's getting closer. And if they play at six, you have all day. Yeah that's true. Yeah, but uh well, hopefully you

A does well tonight, both the women's and the men's. Hopefully you can get at least one more win and get a ticket punch for the actual tournament and the men take off U C l A the PAC twelve. Yeah, you know, I we're we're just talking about what we thought was gonna happen. What do you think is gonna happen? Honestly, close game? Arizona wins, Azona loses a close game? What do you think? I think it's gonna be close, but I think you have eight wins by five.

Yeah, so that's that's kind of how I see it as well. It's gonna be a close game, more tense. U c l A dominated Arizona for having there was No, that's not a surprise. I mean I shouldn't say that they did it for a reason or how they did it, and maybe they do it again over there. Yeah, do you guys know what the spread is? Nine? Okay? Nine? That's about it for me, guys. You guys take care and bear down. James, thanks for the columns. I thought he's gonna ask us to see if you can watch

onto the drive you'll come with us? Yeah, I you know, I think that. Uh, there's there's just something by me that says what should happen or what you think is gonna happen? Like you said, a close game, it's never gonna be comfortable for Arizona for some reason, I'm thinking I guess I'm overthinking instead because I'm thinking Arizona just goes in there kicks their ass. What did you say, you're thinking, you're overthinking this. It's

which that's your middle name. Uh Jay Gonzalez died here, who died born here, died here? The overthinker. I just off the top of your head, you said win and cover. I think I think by eleven, okay, and I'm thinking it's gonna be a win and barely and seven five seven and no cover. You're probably gonna be more right than I am, because because I don't even I don't even know. But you see, only played really well that first game and then they didn't because what did he say?

Because they played here right now you're playing over there is gonna be crazy. Yeah, but you know what, there's gonna be a lot of Arizona people there too. That doesn't need That doesn't matter. I mean, that doesn't matter. I just don't think. I just don't think the poly crowd is intimidating. No, they're not. But but the road Oregon State wasn't. The road has been kind of strange. Yeah, And Arizona has momentum whatever that means they do. I I don't know. I wouldn't by the

time I get home, I could completely change my mind. Yeah, no exactly, And that's this is that, this is that kind of Yeah. Yeah, I mean you still has a lot of shooting offensive woes. So Arizona can just you know, stick to their guns and play great defense, because yeah, I feel like it could get away from you. They're three point shooting percentage was in the twenties when they came here and they shot the lights out, and you just don't, I don't know, you just kind

of don't expect that they'll do that again. Well, here's the question. Here's the thing. Arizona clear cut better team, cut better team. And here we are debating whether they're gonna play it close or not play it close. They shouldn't play this question. They shouldn't. They should be able to. I mean, in the end U c l A is what the they're in seventh place in the league or whatever. But but then again, they're like like Nebraska and football. You feel they've got good players, but they're

just not any good as a team. Now. We talked to Ben bolt Chester saying he said he thinks about a bunch of young guys and stuff like that. But every you know, Arizona loses a bunch of guys. Every year, Tommy puts a team together that does this. You know, U c l A should be able to do this, excuse me, should be able to do the same thing. And they haven't been able to, or they they were not able to this year. That team last year was really

good. You know, Tiger Campbell, Heyman Hawk is the kid that they thought was going today. But oh yeah, yeah, you know I thought. I mean, they were really damn good last year and they went from that to this and a matter of money. Well, and that's what that's what it was. It was a piecemeal team that he had to kind of put together. Yeah, Jmorrow, I forget the guard. He's in the D League, right, That's it. That's it. You see, that's

why we have kids. They know all the stuff off the top. They don't know Beverlybillies, but they know, you know, the Beverly Hill Billies. I don't I gotta I gotta crushing up on them. When you're gonna be hanging around a couple of old guys like this a couple of times a week, you're gonna have to learn that stuff. But uh, I don't know this at this moment. I think Arizona covers the nine. I think

they play well. They kind of demoralize the c l A Fort. But I can be I can get to swan On Fort Lowell and I could go and you know what, Arizona's gonna lose. You know, I don't know. You listen to some post pregame of I listened to us, and I go, what the hell? There's your problem? You would also have to think you needs the game war. I mean, but there don't they The thing is their seasons over. They're not going to dan. They have to

win. They're not going to dance turns the dangerous part. They have nothing to lose, but they have nothing to gain pride. Remember that Arizona in the gym for anybody brings out the best and team Well, the question doesn't matter. Let's say Arizona goes up fifteen in the first half. Do they quit? Who who O? UCLA? Yes? Do they demoralized? No? Unless unless he throws them under the bus again, which could happen. I can't even imagine what some of those halftimes has been. Oh in the

ULA locker room. But he said, he said he's a he's tough but he's a good dude. Yeah, the best duty's ever covered. Well, that's that's what you hear. And I misspoke. UCLA is in sixth place. They're actually tight for fifth, but they're fourteen and fifteen r does it? Does it matter to them whether or not they have a winning record for the season. Of course, of course it does, of course it does. Yeah, I mean this is UCLA. They have to have some pride.

They have to have some pride and then you get that's huge for them. Yeah, yeah, it's how they got left. Well right now, right, go there, you go. They should be able to beat ASU who knows the place well tonight and then play badly on Saturday. That's how it is. Yeah, well I'm gonna hey, don't don't don't forget them, don't sleep on the USC because it's always one of those you get up for U C l A and then you and then you gotta go play us. And they're not the team that came here, No, exactly, We've

talked about that exactly. You know, they're not the team that came here. They're gonna have all their guys back and Boogie Allis is really good. So it was the other guy. Yeah, yeah, they're both. Those guys are really good. I mean that the way they got destroyed here was because you know, those guys were not we're not around. But but in the end though, USC is six and twelve this year in the league, in twelve and seventeen, did you go to the game? To these games

here? You go to the game? I've been a couple. I did go to the l one okay, the USC And so we can't yell at you for saying that Brownie was overrated like the rest of the kids. Oh whoa, But I mean you have to give him some slack. He's coming off the heart situation, but he's not as good as well. What they saw the said is labeled him the beast. Yeah, yeah, I can understand that, and I think you're probably fair in saying that. No reason to boo him. No, no, no, he wasn't there to boom

So we will get you if you were there. No, I'm not. Okay, good good answer. That's a very good answer. When I asked Jay. You know, when I asked j are you good guy? You know what he tells me, of course I'm a good guy. What else is you gonna say? What else. That's the answer. He's gonna say. My wife thinks I'm a good guy. Get her on the phone. My kids think I'm a good guy on the phone. Okay, no, cool. What about Washington Washington State tonight? Uh? They I think they

cover It's it's pretty close though. I think it's four yeah, four six, six and a half. I would think that they would they would win covering Washington. The dude's gonna get fired at the end of the year, Hopkins. That's a team that's uh checked in. Yeah. Yeah, they're just not any good. They're not any good. Uh. And you know, he was supposed to be the good coach. He just didn't do much for a long time. Well he had he had a good team, one

good team when you first got there. I think, yeah, well ten years later, not so much. What you know you're gonna bring, You're gonna bring up the you know, come and play the Jim Jim Beheim a zone zone defense. You know. I don't know, man, I don't know, but you know it's what I like is that this is gonna be a very interesting weekend for for Arizona. They're going to have you know, there's people waiting for them to show right that they can make this run that

people are hoping that they make. And this is where it kind of I mean, they've been on a run, but this is kind of where it starts. You got to you got to play really well against uh, you know, against you U c l A, like you have to. Yeah. Yeah. And it's early enough for people to see on the East coast because it is UCLA, and a lot of the minds will be made up of how good Arizona is because, like I said, they only watched the good games. They don't want some bad games, and this is gonna be

in their mind of good games, this ESPN game. Yeah, Okay. Richard Jefferson will be on the call with he has he done have you seen him do? Yeah, he's done a few. He's really good. He's really good. Yeah, because he's a he's a smart charmers man. Yeah, funny kind of guy. Yeah. Yeah, I'm interested. I'll be interested to watch. Did you listen You couldn't. I said you didn't listen

to Josh Josh? It was pretty good. Almost said we did. Notice was every time you looked at him he was talking and moving his arms. Yeah, he was talking. Yeah, he was doing the talking and right there, this is God horse Bill when you need him. That was pretty funny. He was doing all the time. I hope you come back. Josh's taking over all right. Uh, that's it, Adam, nice job. You did good well from tomorrow. Coming back tomorrow, right, yeah,

all right, I'll be back tomorrow. Now he's a he's a grizzled veteran. He's got this. I think he's got can catch your check tomorrow. Yeah, we'll be back to a breakdown what happens tonight. You got women the Women at seven o'clock against the USC Pack Club Networks, and then we'll have the we'll talk Arizona UCLA. Maybe come in with some Tommy Lloyd postgame stuff. So be sure to come back tomorrow and we'll see what it looks like. So see you tomorrow
