This is High on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jagan Zala Don Fox Sports fourteen sixty powered by Nova Insurance Service. Then I'm sure your most prize BECAUSESSI kt d R two STAG and iHeartRadio sixty. Hey, good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to your Eye on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera in the house today. Jagan's allis I I'm aware, but I shouldn't be, Steve. It's all your fault shouldn't be. You're healthy,

you you're walking man. Yeah, I'm death wormed over is what I am? Death wormed overhead. Haven't heard that term since I was a kid. Yeah, well, Gee Willikers. Every yeah was something that we used to use quite a bit, Gee Willickers. It was a it was a very common way to be after a night at the bumps gear or something like that. You know, Hey, how you doing. I'm death wormed over. I'm just worned over. But I gotta go to class today. I gotta go to class, I gotta go to work or whatever. Yeah.

Yeah, okay, Well, good to see you. Was Thursday, you were out yesterday rooking remotely these last twenty four hours. Man, Holy hell, a lot of things going on. He's going on searching for coaches to the two arguably now I'm saying, arguably the greatest coaches in the history of their sport. Nick Saban and now Bill Belichick both retired. Well, Bill Belichick didn't retire, he got kicked out the door next Saban retired, but both of them out of their jobs where they made their bones, right,

yeah, no questions. And then the the A. There was a one, A, one B then two with with Carol Carol Pete Carroll. Well, it's so funny to see people mentioned Pete Carroll in the same breath as these two guys. You know, I get it. He won a Super Bowl, he won a national championship in football, but he was not a coach that either one of these were. No, he's you know, he's a he's a good next level coach, right, yeah, And it got

very well liked, very popular. I uh, you know, but he's not Nick Saban, and he's not he's not in the Bill Belichick neighborhood. Who is who is in that neighborhood? John Wooden? Of course, guys like that. Okay, No, I was just thinking college foote college football. You know what you're you're gonna probably say guys like I mean, you're gonna have to go way back, a guy like Bear Bryant. People mentioned Bud Wilkinson. You know, they have still had the longest winding streak in

football Oklahoma, Oklahoma. But you know there's a whole bunch right just below that. You know, you you can talk about like how about Pete Carroll college heat, but you know what, he's tainted, Yeah, he's tainted. You know, he was doing n I L before you were allowed to do N I L and one and won the national championship that way and arguably and people will say he should have won another one, should it be Texas and that road and they didn't win that one. So, you know,

just a couple of this, but there's a few. There's there's you know, I mean, we could you know, is Urban Meyer up there? Oh yeah, probably? You know, he's in the next level high at the top of the I think there's only two or three coaches and you and you have to really spread it out to other sports to come up with somebody, you know, kind of at that level. You know, when you start talking about guys like, uh, let's say Phil Jackson in the NBA.

You know Phil Jackson, John wouldn't like you said, wouldn't in college basketball. You know, there's some of the guys. You know, who's the old Celtics coach, the really oh red ARBA you know, guys like that. You know that that's the that's the neighborhood that that Nick Saban and Bill Belichieffer. Yeah. Well, the one thing I just see now that the landing is going to stay at Oregon yep, yep, which is good

for Oregon. Well, you know, there there's a as you would expect, a lot of uh, you know, there's gambling on this, right Jackie, who was the number one guy? Now? The last I saw with Kaylin de Boor is the uh someone else has moved. I have to Mike Norbel. Okay, there's a story that says Mike Norval emergers as the new favorite, except it's got him from a gambling standpoint rated below Kalin de border. They got this is on on a sports batting dime. Yeah,

yeah, that's okay. Here, You're right, Mike Norval, Nis Sarkisian. Still Dan Lanning was on that list. Lane Kiff and Dabbos Sweeney and then your friend and ours, Dion Sanders. He's still on that list. Billy Napier, I mean er Myers on that list. Billy Napier's on that list. Marcus Freeman's on that list. But you know it's not going below Dabbo Sweeney, you know de boor Norvel Sarkisian Landing Kiff and Dabo Sweeney. It's one of those guys. And uh and the guy making that higher our

own, our old friend, Greg Byrn. Yeah, I'm wondering if she's gonna use the same line he used here when he got rich Trot. If anybody leak, yeah, what's going on? He's gonna be tu. The funny thing is nothing ever leaked for rich Trod because it was kind of one of the raiders. But U, that's not a policy the media had. Needs two. Greg burd doesn't sign your check, right. Yeah, you

don't have to listen to Greg Burns. If you find if you hear from somebody, you're gonna you're gonna confirm it, right because somebody may call it. Oh, I heard this, you know, I heard, you know, I heard from a friend of mine something about Kaylen Calen boar. I was just going to Alabama, he said, But you know, I would never report that, he said, Bob, I was having my mama bird. He about a house in the foothills. But uh, you know, but you know, a lot of you call him, you know, almost

like oh bits on these guys. You know, I was on the way and I was listening to, uh to my the podcast. I listened to the college football uh Inquire, uh Pat forty and those guys talking, I mean, they were like it was almost like you're talking about Nick Saban, like he died. He didn't die, but you know, Rhys Davis apparently interviewed him today. I saw that, and you know, and the uh uh saving said it was time and time. Yeah, I'm tired of you

don't know about the future. Blah blah blah. Luke kind of had to go through this later in his years. You know, the demise was about his illness. But because he was in his late sixties, how long are you going to be here? He has an easy target to recruit where he's

not going to be around for you. You know that he's going to be gone by the time you're a senior or junior and blah blah blah, and I'm sure that gets into people's vines, but that was one of the reasons why I decided to get I wanted to get Kendrea, but I got the second best guy, Coach Lopez, and we talked about this with him before, so we'll kind of revisit some stuff. I think he retired at sixty three. He had been tired of the flip flopping, flip flapping. He

said, you know, I'm done, I don't need this. Yeah, yeah, but I think he was over that. But yeah, but he was hard flipping people. These kids won't want to do this. How much would he? And we talked about this with the nil Let's talk to him more about this, and I'm sure he could have had not all the way had more time. He had more time, no question, no question.

And now he's probably living if saying, you know what I think I'm gonna knit today, We're I'm going to play backgammon or I'm gonna play pick a ball. You could do whatever the hell you want, you know, so in the first hour, though, we're gonna have your guy, John Weiller's gonna come on. We've been wanting to get him on and you know, this was the end of the Pac twelve conference in football, you know, the death of the pack fall. I saw funny somebody made, you know,

a graphic of a tombstone and put it on Twitter on Twitter. You know, uh, that would be nice for a little T shirt. Yeah, but you know, you don't know who did this. No, okay, but you know it was actually a photo and then somebody is super imposed. So packed off conference? Yeah yeah, but you know what does this mean? What's it going to be like? You know, packed off conference

and football is gone. What's gonna look like next year? You got four, you got four Power comperence, you got the packed off team scattered all over hell on that. You got two in the a CEC, you got four in the Big twelve, you got four in the Big Ten, and you got two just puttering around on the West coast trying to find trying to find a landing spot. You know, what's this going to look like as as the season starts to come around next year? Right? Right? So

it should be should be interesting moving forward. Until then, we still have the Pac twelve involving in basketball, baseball and all that stuff. For the last hurrah. H But I can't wait for basketball. You saw what happened over the last three four days. Yeah, Kansas gets beat, Kanas beat for du B, Houston beat used to be and Oklahoma got beat. I think it's Yeah, guess why folks Big twelve baby big you know, top teams loose? Yeah, we day lo with that. Today. I was

gonna ask that question of Tommy today. Brian Peterson asked the question about you know, what's what's going on? And it happens, and he's right, I mean, it happens all the time. People just think, oh, that doesn't happen on paper, right rus on paper? Arizona to win every packed love game. Yeah, I guess what they're not going to the right, you know? And he said, well, Stafford never should have beat him. Well, Stafford played out of it, you know what that day,

right, and they beat him. Yeah, and guess what this is the reality of it. That game could happen. March twenty seventh, March twenty second. You don't know. You don't know because Florida as Atlantic or whomever, Creighton readers, Saint Peter right and Beacher beat youer asked, because you think who'll be doing the first round last year, uh Farley Dickinson, Berry Dickens, Bairley Dickinson. Yeah, and that's that's like the name of

an old actress that we got a dude, that's your neighbor. He's your neighbor. On Bairley Dickinson knocks out Purdue, a number one seed in the first round tournament. If that happens with Arizona, the Wildcat facebook pages will be busted. Yeah, the internal little explode. Yeah. By the way, let's not get there. Let's enjoy Spokane. As I joked again today at the the press comments, they're headed there this weekend. You didn't You didn't listen to Tommy No yours yours news. I did. Man, he

was actually pretty good, you know, he he he. I would say he complains a little about showing up for me today and night, and I joked with him. I says, he loves it. It's fifteen minutes of hell the hell, and then you don't get he loves he gets his you know, he gives in to this philosophical stuff. You know, we get telling me the philosopher and we'll see if I can During the break. It just came up on YouTube during the break, Okay, we do it later.

Let's later in the day later. Yeah, you know, he wasn't up by the time I left the left my office. He's good, he's not. I don't want to do it. He's like you're trying to pull somebody out of a out of a restaurant or bars. Come on, let's go. No, I I don't want to go. But he goes and he has funs that you know what, it's a good part of the job. Yeah, it's you know, it is part of the job. But I think he made out of money. It's very much a part of the

job, very much a part of the job. But as love over there today, you know, he was crosy, he was great. Hontually, I'm gonna do a feature on him tonight if I have time. I asked him, and I don't want to give too much money. I asked him, what's your range? It's unlimited. You have a problem. So then I tell me what's his range? Just as well, everybody's fan with a limited range. But we don't want that, you know, interesting story. Just he is the guy. He's kind of the straw straw theirs this drink.

But what if he goes down? Yeah, he's got like what twenty twenty some points a game over the last four or five game. I think he likes that. Yeah, he's he's a but he's we talked about him. He's the word downhill a lot. He's going downhill a lot. His percentages are fantastic because he's going downhill. Uh, he's he's the go to guy, right if you need it, if you need a scorer, well

you needn't go to well. And the thing is, Steve, it doesn't look forced, right, there are guys who score like that, and it looks forced. It looks like I'm taking my shot no matter what. Right, you know, it doesn't look forced. It looks to be doing it within the context of what they're doing. He talked about that in your eyes. Do you see that that he's taking it within the context of this I

don't. Some you don't so because sometimes he's no matter he steps down the line, he comes down and write and he and he throws one up. But I'm I did say, for the most part, okay, for the most part, it looks like it's within the context that you know, like people complained about that shot at the end of the fart Atlantic game, right, But you know, he went to the basket. It wasn't open. He stepped back out and he's throwing the ball, and he shot the ball.

That's all they had time for. Remember, just minutes before, he's the one that got him hit, right, he hit the same shot. Yeah, so but you're a hero five minutes and five minutes or not exactly. But but you know, look, I know Tommy's happy he's here. Yeah, I'm pretty sure the fans are happy. And you're not the same player he wasn't care well, he's certainly not showing that he's a complete player, certainly not showing the reputation that he came right. Because I remember the

day they signed him. I said, yeah, you know, because remember there was some word that he was coming there, you know, looking was coming there. And as I read up on him a little bit, I'm like, yeah, God, Tommy really wants this guy based off what he

does. Sure, he's come in and he's dropped right in and he fits for what they're doing, right, And in a lot of ways, he's taken a lot of the pressure off of eighteen year old Island Boswell right about still at you know, but he's taken a lot of a lot of a lot of the big Bowld doesn't have to do a lot of the outside scoring. He can just kind of run the show and score as needed or you know, when he gets hot. And so it's been Yeah, he's been

a good guy to have. Makes it makes sense. Okay, So will they're here in about ten minutes, we'll have we'll have coach Lopez on the other side, a lone of the crazy things. So so Belichick was gone today earlier in the day. You think he's gonna play again coach again, I don't know. You know, I think you will. I think you will one last hurrah. Maybe, you know, maybe somebody would love to

have him. I'm sure why. I mean, why they're saying, you know, they're saying there again all kinds of odds on this now if they're saying it's the falcon he go down. He used the quarterback. He musically would need a quarterback down there because they don't have him. He's got himself a nice running back in John Robinson, So he's got pieces. A lot of people felt that Atlanta be better than it was, but uh, you

know, they just weren't very good at quarterbacks this year. You get you know, you get yourself a quarterback and all of a sudden you can be sure some things down there with us. Okay, I want you to play, get into some music with your kids. The one thing I like about the kids, they have some distant decent. They've got to go to a different thing. And I did take I didn't take some time to look for that. So I'm just gonna okay, Okay, Well there swimming fire or

whatever. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So we'll be back. We're gonna get John Wilner to come on and we'll talk about we'll do a little little bit on the uh PAC. We're trying to figure Uh, we're trying to figure that out.

They had a power out. It's here last night, Paul, so some things might have been not reset. Okay, so we are only on we are only on the over the air feed where we are not on the net on the app. So in that situation when you get when you do the podcast, we will see on the podcast. Abel, Yeah, I think I think you should have recorded. Okay, Okay, well I'm sorry. Well, if you're on the app, you can hear us. Let's let's

go and call call John right now. Okay, I'm calling. We're only gonna be able to get him for about ten minutes because he's got it. He's got another colleague. So let me go keep talking. Okay, let me go. Now, we'll find I'll to this proble. We're going to call John Wilner from the San's a Mercury News. I'll pack twelve hour ondline and then the second HOLF we're going to have Andy Lopez to talk a lot about coaching one and two, coaching as you get older and what it all

means as you get older, when you want to get out. He got out I think at sixty two, sixty three years old. In fact, when he had his press conference back in the day, he said he was sixty three. And my question to him is you have a lot of gas in a tank. Why now? And he gave a pretty candid answer that he was tired of all the BS transfer portal back in the day, or flip flopping when you got a commitment, and he had to deal with more of it because kids decided just to go pro out of high school. So,

you know, the trouble, the difficulty. You're having a pretty good program means kids are going to do a lot of different things. So as we try to reach John, as we try to reach Strong, or Jay tries to reach dron Well, I'll continue to talk again. The national feed is on, I guess through the app. But if you're locally listening to us on the radio, we're here, thankfully, And I guess if you missed the part of the first part of it, we'll have the podcast later

on today. Yeah, got a verification from somebody tonight, but he hears us in the truck, but not on the phone. Okay, stay in your truck, Stay in your truck. That must be Gene. That's Gene, right, So I just couldn't dial John John out the work. Yeah, we'll get a couple of minutes with him and see what happens, because I want, I want, I want to ask him is this job load less boy thing? Yeah? Well I want to ask him, you know, how is it going to change? Right? Yeah? Okay, okay,

Hey John, is that too? Yeah? That's me. Hey, thanks for putting up with us. Man. We're just having some technical issues. There was a power out. It's you're at the station last night. We have you. Yeah, we got you till three thirty, right, yeah, I mean would you rather do it borrow? No, No, let's go. Let's go now, because you know we none that we've got you, So let's just go a few minutes. Really, John, what we want to talk about is the death of the PAC twelve. You know,

the PAC twelve, at least PAC twelve football. It's dead. It's over. It breathes its last breath on Monday night, all the way to the very end. But it's done. I mean, have you put any thought into what's this going to be like next year with a with the PAC twelve team scattered all over the place? Well, I mean it isn't really the death of the PAC twelve. Technically, there's still going to be a

PAC twelve. Washington State, Oregon State are going to compete for two years under the name PAC twelve, and then I think by twenty twenty six there is a pretty good chance there'll be eight or ten loose in a conference that is called the PAC twelve. Uh Now, for all intensive purposes, yeah, I totally get why why everybody feels that way. It's going to be totally different, and I think it's going to take a little bit of get

used to it. It's gonna be weird. I think it's weird for the schools and the athletes, the coaches, It's going to be weird for the fans. It's gonna be weird for everybody in the job that you do. What's next for you covering the individual schools when they're dispersed. I mean, yeah, it's not going to be, you know, that much different from

me. It's still going to be covered college football and college basketball in the Big Ten and Big twelve and you know, probably some Pack two and some ACC I mean it's still there's still competition, and there is still a ton of off the field issues that are going to dramatically impact college sports for the next couple of decades. And you know, whether the teams are competing under the banner of the Back twelve or not, it doesn't really affect the stories

themselves, right. But you know, again, as you said, I mean, it's going to be completely different, and yes, people have to get your started. They may call it the Pac twelve, but it's going to be something different. But you, you and your position, you become more of a national writer because you've got, first of all the two teams in your area. You know, you're in the Bay Area, you're in San Jose, are off to the a CC. So you're gonna have to do some of that, uh you know, the Big Ten, the Big

twelve. I mean, how then, I guess that's what I'm trying to get to for all the people who cover all of these conferences. Now, you know it's they're all gonna be different. You know, you've got Oregon and Washington, and I know you've also got you know, uh uh uh Oregon. Uh not We're gonna say, or USC and UCLA over in the

Big Ten. And I think a couple of those teams are gonna be like also Rams but it's gonna be just so much different when we start talking about football season next year and preseason predictions come out and conference you know, conference predictions and all that kind of stuff. It's just gonna look and feel different.

And how are we gonna deal with that as fans and media? Well, I mean, I think fans are still gonna work for their schools, right it doesn't you know, Arizona fans are gonna root for Arizona gets Cincinnati and Sana Arizona gets Oregus State. But it's still it's still competition, h you know. And same with the basketball right now. The other piece to this that is not getting enough attention beyond the conference re alignment is the expansion

of the playoffs. Right that is going to change college sports more than anything else in our lifetime. I think it is gonna the playoff a twelve teen playoffs is going to totally change the regular season. It's going to change how many meaningful games are, it's gonna change how many teams are involved. It is going to be everything. And I think that we're not people aren't quite grasping what it's going to do to college football. So that's that's the other

thing. It's not just conference real alignment, it's the playoff expansion. Those things are both happening. Meanwhile, you've got the ACE DC potentially falling apart in the next six months, right the Florida State's legal challenge, the a SEC's plan of West contract. I mean to me, that is toothpased, that cannot get put back in the tube. And it's only a matter of time before Florida State and other schools leave the ACC, and that is going

to set off a whole other round. Now. I don't know what will happen to COLLN Stanford at that point, but you know, I think there's a real good chance that in the next I don't know, three four years, the ACC ceases to exist as we know it. Let's go to the game real quick. We only have a couple of minutes left with you. I like I thought, I thought Argue was the best team. I think you agree with me until until they beat them again for the second time and

then Washington shows up. I fell in love with them after the first game, and then they just showed their showed their wares to me. The disappointing championship. I don't know how did you feel about that. I thought Michigan was just better, right, I mean, Washington. You could make a good case that Washington was one hundred or the second best team out of one hundred and thirty three in in division in the FBS, But there was one

team that was better. And I watched that game and it was clear to me pretty early, you know that Washington was going to really start up with score and that it was this was a different level of opponent for the Huskies. And you know, nothing wrong with that. They're the second best team, our best team. You know, if you want to include Alabama or Georgia, Michigan was better. Okay, clearly better. One minute, Nick Saban gone, what do you think, how does that change thing? Who's

going there? Not even who's going there? How is that going to change things? What's Alabama going to be? And yeah, and who do you think goes over there? Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what they become. I mean, he's the greatest coach in the history of the sport. It's crazy to be that Pete Carol, Bill Belichick and Nicksaban all out within twenty four hours, right, Artuately, the three best coaches football coaches of

the century. Maybe you can make the case for Andy Reid, I guess, but those guys are on the pantheon and they're all out in twenty four hours span. I don't know who Alabama's going to hire, but I do know that it's you know, it could cause a ripple effect, right, I mean, it could affect a ton of schools out west. Right, what if they decide they're going to hire Mike Dorvell at Florida State, all of a sudden, Florida State's got a vacancy. Well, Deion Sanders might

be pretty appealing, So it affects Colorado. You know what if they hire Kalind Bore, then it affects Washington, and then there's a trickle down effect. Right. The higher the vacancy on the food chain, the more impact it has. Coaches will use it for negotiating new contracts like jet fish. Some coaches will leave, partners will leave. I think we're going to and that doesn't even include if if Jim Harball leaves Michigan as well, which I

think is going to happen. So I think we're in for two or three weeks of wild spins of the coaching carousel. We know you got to go, so thank you for doing this. Anyways, we appreciate it as always. I know we'll get you again as some of this stuff starts to develop. Thank you, I Gotchay, thank you. Yeah. Interesting, I think all that we all knew Washington State, Washington was what it was. Uh, the league, it's gonna be real busy, but the trickle down

is far down the stay. It's going to go far. And you know, does ultimately does that ultimately affect Arizona? Right? And and people are talking on the internet at least that they need to get that contract signed, the extension and the more money, and maybe Jen doesn't want to maybe like, yeah, things develop here if a little more juicide is it's both for me and my assistance. You're adding drama to this. I am well because it is dramatic. Look, Arizona is in as good a position as it's

been in law wise in a long yeah, a decade. You do it, Coach du even probably even more so now than it was then because coming out of twenty fourteen we thought they were going to be really good. Then they were really bad. They were really bad, but they you know,

they got to a bowl game that year. Sure, but you know twenty sixteen they went three and nine and from that point on, yeah, they got to another Bowl game, you know, the year after, and then they fired rich Rod and then we had Kevin someone and you know, and we are where we are. We're going again like kind of like when John mcavic left. It was ten years before we were any good again, right, And so it's you know, it's, uh, let's see the Ghosts

Street show better this year. I sure hope so, but you know, well I hate to have happened. It's just this trickle down effect to come serve itself up here, you know, here at Arizona at a point where you know the fans are in, you know, feel good about it. I think they're gonna come out to the games next year. You've got a coach that you feel could be here for a long time and can win some

games. You got some guys you know again and more trickle Right. Let's say Jed Fish leaves Eugene sooner, take players with them sooner or later? Soon? Sooner? Yeah, sooner? Okay, You're you're as we saw yesday when when when they said that that sab and you know retired Alabama players get a thirty day window in the transfer portal. Yeah you know, you know, if Jedie happens to leave for whatever reason, guys can go with him. I'm not gonna give you your ten win hypothesis right now, you're

eighty five percent, because I don't think that's gonna happen. But in the next year, if they do really well, you're gonna say, okay, now what now? What? Now? What you groom? The next guy you have, does kid? He already had the guy on the speed dial. You know, what's what's next? Yeah, you know, And obviously these dudes are smart. That's why they're smart and do their job. You already you already have the rollodecks ready. Yeah, and oh yeah, for

you kids, google rollodecks. Greg Burn already had a five. Sure right, he already had Yeah. Uh, here's a kind of what what Nick David did. Everybody, Yes, he dropped a bomb on me. Yeah, certainly I dropped a bomb on Greg Burn. So all right, so looking back in the minutes, we'll take your casas five P zero four one, six seventy four. the Baco Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's James. You've got about sixteen minutes to good to touch to John for a little Stephen those little time. Yeah, well, I mean I everybody's saying the pact, well there will be apex well, which makes perfect say. It's kind of cool and things changed, right, you know. I remember those of us who are old enough to remember when the a f L and the NFL merged. A couple of teams. Well, but there were a couple of teams,

the Steelers and the Colts. Why I remember this, I don't know. To make get put an even number of teams? Uh, and the Browns, uh in the in the both leagues. The Steelers, the Colts and the Browns all went to the American Football Conference and and and it was weird for me to see the Colts, you know, playing the playing the Jets and the Raiders and the you know all that stuff, because the Colts to me were them, and the Packers at that time were the National Football League.

And now and they moved the Colts over to the American Football Conference, and and to me, for a while, I mean ultimately got used to it. For a while, it didn't feel like the NFL to me, it felt like something different. Guy Gubby, if you're listening to this, if you need him to remember stuff, put it in text context of nineteen sixty five sixty eight ish, say could you bring me a pack of uh? Now, could you bring me a loaf of bread pretender to sixty eight

packers and you needed to bring it home. He'll remember that crowd if he doesn't remember Tuesday. You can't be making me laugh because it makes me cough and it hurts to cough. Okay, but it's not the full rib muscle now from all the coffee and I've been doing this week but true, you know we have there's in fact, we played this game on New Year's Eve. A funny game and it's and it's something. It's the thing about what you're trying to guess what a person is going to say about themselves. That's

the gist of the game. Is it like a board game? Yeah? No, no, no, it was no, it was a game.

It was like a game that you buy the store. But you know, you make a statement and then you try and guess what that what the person who read the statement is going to say to that, and and what one of the comments about that was exactly that and saying if you want to if you want him to remember something, tell them, you know, no, they said something like useless information you're remember in the nineteen eighty two the score

of the nineteen eighty two football game when you can't remember that? Was that? That makes total sense? Yeah, okay, hey, if you want to call in, please do five two o four one six seven four four zero. We there got our phones figured out. Okay, good, we don't have to pretend. Yeah, okay, great, great, well again, we're going to talk to Andy Lopus on the other side. A lot of big stuff, man, you know, Joe with Belichick gone, uh,

Nick Saban gone, Pete Carroll gone. Other other coaching change is taking place. You know, it's kind of like they threw everything up in the air and let let's you know, let's see where it all lands. Yeah, that's right. We you know, we we were. We weren't on the app, but we were in you know, on the radio in the first fifteen minutes. So if you did miss that in one year we had to talk about we'll talk about Nick Saban and were and the Bill Bell checking all that stuff.

The podcast will go up tonight after the show. We have a caller Hight on the air and on the ball. Hey, this is Don How are you guys doing. What's up? Not too much? I just I didn't I didn't catch the early part of the show. And uh I missed it yesterday because I work. I was down in Douglas. But so are we ANIX free radio now? Yeah, Well, a couple of people wanted him to not make an apology but rescind his vote. You you brought him up. Okay, you brought him up. I haven't talked about it today.

Oh well I apologize. I apologize then, no I did. That's anyway. What do you think about it? With saving and Belichick and all that stuff. Was a saving thing that one. I mean, he's had a great run. He needs to leave some time so he could be retired, and then all his guys that keep beating him. Yeah, Dabble beat him, Kirby beat him. Yeah, uh, you know, I don't. It's not that the game is passing him by, because he's still been in the thick of it. But that's kind of surprising. I think that's

one of the two. And he talked about it today with ESPN. How you know you're at that age and it says things become tiring. You talked about it this earlier this week. You're sixty four and you're tired. I'm tired. You're telling he's seventy two. You can't imagine doing that job with it, you know, at seventy two years old. Well, and then and then the parameters that these guys got to do this job, right, You're you're you're recruiting kids and then you're having to recruit them every week until

you're done with them. Yeah, you know, you're you're you're having to do that. I can't. It's like it's like with with college basketball. It's been years since I've tried to keep up with the rosters with all the one and done and getting frustrated with these kids that think they're one and done and they get done and then you never hear about them again, and everything is just so frustrating. I couldn't imagine that being my job, right, right? Done? Are you a sports fan? And if you are,

what level? To what level? Like one out of ten? Did I lose you done? Do it? No? No, I'm trying to figure it out. I'm trying to figure it out because in certain things like in the in the NFL, I think about the business part of it a lot more than I ever used to. I think I'm about an eighth as far as I'm a sports fan. Right, Okay, so you may or may

not do the fantasy stuff. I know that Jay here does. I don't because if I back in the day, I used to draft my team and I was loyal to the team to default because I didn't want to see anybody move or leave, and then when they played on a Sunday against my real team, there was just too many, too many things. That's how people get add They just kind of have this guy that guy don't score, yes, score no enough. I just want to watch a game. Yeah,

that's hard to do. And then I'm a Raiders Sam and I used to. I used to have Sunday ticket. I had Sunday Ticket for years and years, and I would watch one game a weekend. I don't turn on the TV and watch every you know, I don't. I don't like the Red Zone channel. It's like watching TV with my dad. I really hard. That's what I watch. I love it that hard for me, and my son loves that I do. I do. I don't like it. I like watching the game and sitting and watching the ebbs and flows of that

game, and then I like watching my team play. I like watching Arizona Wildcats play. I don't watch. I don't. I don't sit down and watch college basketball like I did, you know back in the eighties and early nineties, where if there was a game on, I was watching it. It's hard to it's hard to get invested with when you're trying to watch all these guys because every time you watch it, turn on the TV. It doesn't matter if the same teams are playing. It's different kids playing, right.

But no, I hear you, I hear you, Okay, Don all right, Don hey man? Thanks that as as always one thing real quick. He let me. Last night, I was listening to the sports radio, and some guy on the radio said Arizona was had the sixth best chance to win a national championship next year. I was in the car headed somewhere. I don't I think it was on twelve nineties. Yeah, it was twelve ninety. But the guy was a sassitude host yet I don't know who it was. He was a national dude. He was a national dude

for a different program. I saw that. I heard that, and that's pretty liberal, and that's pretty gracious to you when you think that Arizona's never been mentioned in that, in that in that echelon ever ever. Yeah, no, no, it's it's crazy. And I'm going we got a lot of things to hold together to make that even a possibility. Well, posibility done. And then when I was listening to that, and then we do our job, and whoever pays attention to us, good luck, God help

you. It's one man's opinion, right, one man's opinion, but it's it's nice too as an Arizona Look, I'll tell you what I don't mind if we never win a national championship. I'm I'm cool with in football, I'm cool with the league championship. If we can get some of that and some national notoriety and have have people go, you don't want to play Arizona.

I love being like they were like they were this year, Arizona got to play their own style of ball and they were successful with it, and they they played their way and I mean, heck, they beat Oklahoma with it. I love being in the conversation. That's the part that I like more than anything. And that's that's right. And we're in my Arizona stuff in Phoenix. There you go, ahead, there you go. But don't get any fights. Okay, don appreciate it. Oh no, no,

I don't have to. All right. All I got to do is say scoreboard exactly, exactly, all right, don thank you. Appreciate the calls always. It's funny. Okay, he's so good. So so what level of fa are you? Oh? I'm like ten out of ten, because I mean, I've got other work that I do, so that makes me think about other things, like like today, you know how you sit in on a webinar, you know, a forty five minute website. But that's worked, that's gonna work. But what I'm saying, when I'm when I'm

not when I'm not working. I'm going to say ninety five percent of what I think about the sports. So, like, what's the going been going on in the day? Yeah, you know, you know, looking at you know, looking at social media, watching games on TV, you know all, you know, altern on a nondescript game. I mean, like, uh, last night I had Washington, Washington and USC on last Yeah, I'm I'm not USC. Uh yeah yeah, USC. Yeah, last night. You know, I'll watch a women's basketball game. I've got I've

got some games recorded on my DVR and I'll turn those things on. So so let me say this, everyone that's gonna be up for a game in Pilman this weekend. Yeah, how far has well USC fallen? I'm not sure how good they are, not good, but Washington State going into LA to win that game is a big deal. It's a huge deal. Uh. So they're gonna be at home, there probably aren't gonna be very many

fans and pullman, it's gonna be a snowstorm. Blah blah blah. And that's those are the worst conditions of the worst that there is going to places. I'll never forget Anthony Cooks. Anthony Cooks quote the year after the eighty nine his senior year, I was no longer the beat writer. A guy named Mike. Mike down to the beat writer. And that was when you would travel with the team. And so Mike is in the airport with the

team, and so he was having to do you know. He did sort of a notes on you know, the guys hanging out in the airport. I'll just never forget Cooks quote saying, guys, aga, you're just sitting there. You're doing nothing but aging. And that's what going to Pullman is like. Hard we get especially this time of the year, it's gonna be a cold school. He talked about it today in his press conference. He says, as long as it does the snow inside the building, Yeah,

you know what I mean. I remember, uh, you know, we had David Adams on the show once we were talking about he said he hated going to Washington as you play there being snow and the ground is hard, often icy, and he said I hated that more than anything. Well, you know, the draft for us, you know, it's not always about to driving fun when it's snowy. Stories. Yeah, some people trying to take a left of the Albuquerque you can get into Idaho. Yeah, I

have to come back. I think that's what I'd be greg one day right with you guys took it, he took it left and you went to Idaho for a while. Exactly, yeah, exactly, so you know you just so you know it's it's yeah, No, it's it. And again for people who think, well Arizona should go up there and be Washington State, No, Washington. First of all, Washington State is good, not like fourteen and three years, I don't remember. You got some you know,

they got a guy that's pretty good. They have a guy that's hurt. Theres one in the past. We'll see. And who's going to be the second team? Is Arizontha is the pack? Hop's going to get three teams in this tournament? Probably not U c l A is coarse poop there there

really USC look doesn't look good. Cronin's on the hot seat all of a sudden after getting to the in the league again to the point, so when I'm flipping channels, I saw that their ASU Colorado and Sam they played Saturday then, so I stopped at it, and those four minutes left in the game, it was a close game and I won. I didn't know you had beat in Colorado Saturday. Oh yeah, yeah, I hadn't. I hadn't paid survived that game. So a, she's four and oh they'll eventually

find out who they are. Well, the thing is maybe not because who's the second best team in this conference? Maybe they're going to be the second best team by default because who else is good? Right? But I'm trying to look up Washington's. Washington's record here, they're eleven and five. Uh, you know they they they've got lost to Mississippi State. Uh, none of their wins are very good. They lost to Santa Clara, they lost to up in the Mountains, Utah and Colorado. But they've come back.

They beat Oregon State, lost a close one to Oregon, and now they beat you. I see at us. Yeah, you know, as we look at it, it's gonna be tough going on the road. Wherever you go in the road, conditions, circumstances, things like that. So we'll see what I about, right, Yeah, I mean, I just yeah, it's it's hard to know who's gonna emerge out of that because they're all bad, Steve, except for Arizona, they're all bad, right, correct, God, they cleared the first hour already I need a nap, Steve,

You'll be fine. You go home and sleep for a day twenty four hours and be back here tomorrow. We have we have sid tomorrow's yeah, okay, we have said tomorrow. And we've got Andy Lopez coming up at about quarter after the hour twenty after if you want to hang around for that, we're gonna just talk to him about you know, as you get you older, how hard is it to be coaching, especially in these days and times. And when is the right time as the next dage? When's the

right pollo the day stick around? We'll right back. We'll break you new
