Steve Rivera and Jagen Salez. They have their Eye on the Ball on Tucson Sports Stage Jet Fox Sports fourteen fifty streaming live. I mean I heard radio whap, Hey, welcome back to Ie on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, he's Jacob's aust Now we have sid with breaking news. All right, well did not play, Yeah I didn't play, But okay, we'll start off for breaking news with football. Chuck secil

is being retained as a senior defensive assistant. Always go to keep a lumps like that around, right, Yeah, you know, I think it's one of the questions kind of people are asking, you know, what's happening to you know, to Cecil and Ricky Hunley and who incidentally, Brandon has been great for us this week. Helped us get Ta Foy, helped us get Josh Miller tomorrow, helped us get Marquis Flowers, helped us get you know,

our some of our Super Bowl guests this week. And so Brandon's been great and we appreciate the work he does, you know, anything that has to do with the football alumni. So hopefully he gets his stick around. But you know, you know, Chucky's it's more it's an analyst position. It looks like they're they have a name for it, but he's basically analyzing defenses to provide that information to the offense. So he kind of works for

the offense, but he's doing work on defense. So good good for him that he gets his stick around and he wanted to be around for I mean, he wants to be the family. Yeah, so we'll see, I mean, good to keep that transition going. Big news from Bill Norton as

he announces his return. Yeah, there's a lot of sources have been saying that, but he he announces, yeah, he Yeah, so some much needed depth was in question whether or not he was going to come back, so obviously a big piece that if you ask me, Steve, I think he was as important as any buddy on that defense because he just plugged plugged holes. Yeah. Uh. And it's been a long time since they've had sort of what you would call, uh, a dominating guy you know,

in the middle like that. And you know it's because of him that Jacob Monuo was so good, well partly because because of him. Yeah, but big, big news obviously yesterday we had other transfers come in. We had the Tray Smith the defensive end, so the defensive line is starting to shape out a little bit. I thought it was also important to note that the running back commit that we got from New Mexico actually visited Washington before uh decided to come here. Oh I didn't see that. Yeah, wow, yeah,

good. Yeah, So it was Jason went away from Jed and Jason. She explained it. She explained it as he took his visit as stealer Jack healings. We're gonna have to get over that. I'm just stating a fact. He stole some guys from Arizona. He's a Steeler. I'm not whether I'm not I'm not saying I'm pissed or anything. I'm just saying he stole some guys, and he stole one of the one of the guys that we were counting on. Uh, you know with Jonah Coleman that you're gonna

teach you and don Delivery. Yeah. I just thought it was very interesting to know because a lot of people are downplaying the commitments kind of because of where they're from. But I mean, you have to realize that a lot of these guys were probably contacted by bigger schools as well. Yeah, you know, just because you're from a smaller school does not does not mean anything. Well, again, as we said yesterday, you know, where did

Jacob coming come Ford? Where did Twner McLaughlin? Dope, they're they're good players who've raised their game since you know, when they didn't get recruit Dorian Singer? Right, you know, do you know he's a utah du did we report? Yeah? But you remember nineteen eighty nine that I can real I can reel off all the airs on AC scores from eight to two on. Yes, but don't forget the butt. But I don't know what I

had for lunch yesterday. Yeah, I know it's important though, because I mean an example that I think about is cam Ward He was at Incarnate Word before were going to Washington State, now at Miami. So right, so you know, guys, you know they play a little, they get good. I mean, I've seen the clips on these on these two running backs, and they look as good as you know. And they're big, they're

big, big, they're big dudes. They're fast. At the end of the day, though, we won't know until we know, until we know, And so why now just give him credit until we know yeah, and what's it's what's the difficulty in that because our fans are a bunch of wear those you become my spokesman, fans are. But when it comes also fans have to realize we just hired, you know, Arizona just hired a new running back coach that that was one of the best running back coaches in the

country. So who says he can't develop you know, some of these guys into more right and and again, I think I think, as you know, they've been talking about what happens with the portal is would you rather have two guys who've got a couple of years under their belt playing college football or a guy coming right out of high school. You're gonna take the You're gonna take the veteran. Plus, Arizona's got a guy that that that's that track

guy that's a freshman. He'll get to learn and go and write. So you know, you don't if you don't need to, you don't have to throw him in there in his first year. Although he sounds like he's pretty good, so we'll see what happens. Yeah, you know, you just need guys in the room. And and they were short some guys. They went and got these two guys and go down for for Brent Brennan. Yeah, I mean for any fans that are worried about this, I mean you

can't. You can't be excited about the higher and not excited about what how they can develop players. Right if you're if you're buying into the coaching staff, then you believe you know that they can they develop. Yeah. I just consider the source of the people who did are complaining. I mean, some people know, some people don't know. Just relax, I mean, come to join the moment and let's see what happens sports. The one thing about sports is you'll always find out. I mean, come on, they

lived on two Stars Scooby for years. What's the difference of these guys coming in here and being two stars? Okay, nothing to see here. Let's move on, moving on into five stars. Now some five stars and basketball guys. We got Ben Mathurin is going to be participating in the Skills Challenge with two of his Pacer teammates, and then we have Larry marking In partaking in the three point contest. So so this is okay, this is with me because I've said this all along, five years, whatever, six years,

Who would I rather have marketing or eighting? And everyone was hiding marketing. Marketing was fantastic. He was fantastic. Here he was, He's been fantastic in the NBA. He he was a multiple a multiple position player. You can stretch it, you can come in And I've always thought that. I always thought that, and I've always said, you know what I want to say, Now, who's the guy that defended the marketing the best?

Because you never gave him the ball? Took Xavier to the lead, but we've played the best defense for Xavier that day it was Alans of Trier. I agree. I also thought it was interesting to note that m Hawks is partaking in the Dunk Contest. In the Dunk Contest, you got a homie in the dunk Contest. I want to say a very racial thing right now. They can't jump, right you know you've seen the sequel to white Man can't jump with Mexicans can't jump. Well, I think you can say that

because you're one. Because I am one, I get to say that. I get to say that. But good for yeah, could be outside of Louel Cinders Slash Kareem Abdul Jabar could be my favorite U C. L A. Bro Ever well because because he was a homie and you look like a homie. He looked like I mean, he looked like a guy that you go driving down the street in East l at right the beach, he's right and that and he's right there. Yeah, and the dude's the only thing

different about him from the other homies. He was a He was taller than all of them tall, and he was a nonchalant player. He play and then he stuff got fifteen on you next thing. Yeah, yeah, he was. He was really really good. Yeah, really good in a nondescript way, right, and his mustache right, and he just played. He gave I mean he gave a Zona fits every every time. Yeah, he

did absolutely did good for him. Moving into baseball news airs on a Baseball News Mason White and Dawson Netzer p season All PAC twelve, both of those looking to be huge, like a freshman is the uh he's the shortstop, right, Yeah, I think he's a freshman and he's already all packed preseason off packed him and Dawson. We didn't say this yesterday. Did they pick the finish eighth. I think in the lord bottom of the package we had

we had chip chip on. We didn't talk about that because we didn't didn't they didn't know by that time. So there's another thing that you can put another chip on their shoulder to come, no pun intended. Yeah, all right. Cool softball news today Condria Classic four to six. There's a there's another game at six playing Utah Tech and Northern Colorado. So I thought they're

happy to move that schedule around because because the weather the rain. Yeah, I think moving some games around and playing at you know some stuff Arizona's games, whatever is on the schedule that it's staying like that. But the other games looked like they moved him around a little bit, you know, with all the weather and stuff. It's cold out there. S you want to be playing softball or baseball right now? Hell no, I don't want to be in the pocket. But it's not come on, it's not that Contractly

I'll beg to be in this place. It's not the basketball better and you'd rather be playing basketball under the government. Yeah, okay. Moving into college football news, the Michigan ad will now be the chairman for the College Football Playoff Oh okay, that's interesting. So yeah, big movement there, well, off directors moving places well, and it's a new era for the for the playoff, right, twelve teams coming up this year. I'm excited about

this. I think, you know, there's so many opinions about you know, it's going to make the regular season irrelevant and all that kind of stuff. Well, it'll make it irrelevant. You know, if you're Georgia, you don't have to finish undefeated to get in the playoff. What I like is that it opens the door for teams like you know, Arizona in Utah, some of these teams that all they want is a shot, right. I know that if I'm on the field with Florida, if a Zone's playing

for Georgia, you expect azone to get their ass kicked. But you know what, on that one day of that one day, maybe just maybe, you know, like Arizona Kansas in the ninety seven NCAA tournament, going into that game, who thought Arizona's gonna win that game? And they did? You know, you get a shot. Just because you get a shot, you have a shot, yep, right, you you might win that game that you need to win. And all of a sudden, now you're playing

for a national championship. So I'm I'm loving that. Yeah, And all these people who say, you know, well, you know, now you know the urgency for an Alabama or a Georgia or Michigan, what is at because they know they can lose the game, maybe even two, and still get in the playoffs. I don't care. Yeah. The good thing is each conference, it's gonna mean more for that conference, right, every every conference is gonna have a conference champion that has a chance to represent you know,

see when that's it that you know? Going back, that's the thing I always hated about what we had where there were four spots and I'm like, and then teams who didn't even win their league, but the teams that didn't even win their league were getting in the playoff over teams that did and they they used to that used to that pissed me off. I hate that. So now win your conference championship, you get into the playoffs. Yeah,

moving into other stuff. You got Colorado hiring the Bengals secondary coach, Big Big twelve football news there, Okay, Colorado, all right, move We'll see how it plays out. Obviously, they've been using the portal Ton. I think when it comes to the new schools of the Big Twelve, you know, they're all gonna be mixed among the top. You know, we don't know exactly how it's gonna finish, but I think a lot of those schools Utah as well. It'll be interesting to see how it all shapes

out first season. Well, certainly for this first football season, Steve. I think that you know, Arizona and Utah coming in as two teams that people feel that you know, you're gonna have to contend with, sure in the Big Twelve. Sure, and then obviously Arizona for basketball. You know it'll be you know, up there at the top of the league right away. Right, No, it's gonna be a lot of fun. I just hope that the Arizona doesn't poo poo right away. They play Kansas State right

away. It's not it's not a conference, it's not a conference game, but you want to kind of show who you are right in the league. Yea, because Kent State's one of the better teams in the league. So even though it's not going to count in the conference, it's going to tell you something about where Arizona sits. It's a third game. Yeah yeah. They open with New Mexico and then NAU and then we'll get to Kansas Unions

again next week. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. The last news I had here, I don't know if you guys saw, but the forty nine ers were woken up early this morning by their hotel's fire alarm if somebody did that on purpose. So a lot of the players, yeah, a lot of the players have been playing about the field, the conditions, and then now the hotel. Where were they staying. They were staying, I think they said thirty minutes, about thirty minutes away from all. Yeah,

the noise. But it is very interesting because earlier in the week they were dealing with the field that was super soaked apparently felt like sponge. So we'll see when the game. When the game comes out, we'll see anything washing, okay, bashingham. I think I'm taking the Chiefs anyway, so it doesn't really matter. I hope my daughter, my sister, and my brother and my son aren't listening to that. All right, let's take our break.

Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. Hey, welcome back to my I on the Ball here Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, He's Jacob Sauce. Now with us in studio is doctor Kevin Leeman, well renowned author, therapist, psychologist, all that right and sports fan and that guy, that guy Buffalo Bill fan So I know you're here to talk about sports, but I'm more concerned about having a good sex life by Friday. For you, sex life by Friday. You know, I got hung up on Friday. I did

a whole bunch of books. Have a New Kid by Friday. That's one of your books. Yeah, a new six life by Friday. One of my favorites was have a New husband by Friday. Oh never mind. Never teach women how to talk to us guys, because us guys women don't realize it. We hate their questions and we hate the y words, and they love questions. So I had fun with that. We're hard to deal with. How can I find that one that's hard to deal with? Well,

you're here to talk about a lot of different things. We'll get to sports, right, go ahead, Jay, Well, you know we'll get to the serious stuff first, and then we'll bring up your Buffalo bills because we were talking about them a little bit. But you know, obviously with so much going on. We had Rachel Webb on from the U of A a few weeks ago and just talking about how much athletes today are dealing with, and not just the college athlete. We're talking to high school kids now who

are getting you know, signing contracts and endorsements and things like that. I mean with all this, it's already that was already on their plate. I mean, how the heck are they dealing with this stuff? It was crazy to begin with, right, Okay, And they're looking at seventh graders, eighth graders. Uh, money is being thrown around. I mean you three people in this room actually four, excuse me? Uh no, that things

have to change. We can't sustain what's going on right right? And Jay asks this of the kids, what about the parents who are kind of running the show. Yeah, and everybody. I mean some of these kids, let's face it, come from zips, don't have money. Somebody throws money at him. Uh, they're going to run after that money like a raccoon

with chase a shiny object. So a lot's going to happen. The presidency of universities and maybe our legislatures, our government is going to have to be involved because it can't work the way it is and have a great college football season. If you want to just have another pro football, let's call it pro football and do away with the university tag. Right. Have you?

Have you noticed and talking to others, and you know, you're in your own experience and serve an uptick in how much and when we see it all the time, right, how much mental health has become a part of the picture of these days of what they're dealing with. And you know, we were seeing athletes who are you know, just in severe you're having severe mental health problems and there's that as well. But kids today view reward is the right. Okay. You know, I'm old enough to remember when kids actually

used to obey their parents, and now parents obey their kids. The whole paradigm has flipped very much true. And so kids today, most kids today in Tucson, Arizona, most kids are reared in such a way as they really think they are the center of the universe. You talk about inflated importance, right, and now you're an athlete. Can it be reflipped? Well, it's going to have to be reflipped, to use your term, Steve, sooner or later, because that paradigm doesn't work either. You have rebellion

kids. You know, we have eight schools. One of the things I pride myself on it Leaman Academy of Excellent Schools, is we put authority in the classroom teacher's hands. You don't talk back to a teacher at Leaman Academy. If you do, you're gonna know it and your parents gonna know it. And I think adults sometimes lose fact, the fact that kids really want to please us. Your children want to please, they do. Let them please, they do, but without accountability and without guidelines. And see that's

what we're missing today. There's no guidelines. The rails are off and we're just running down, running downhill, throwing money here and there. And of course I'm a U of A Red and Blue guy. They gave me the Alumni Achievement Award, which I'll tell you is the highest award they can give to one of their own. I love the U of A. And I hear these fans dog in our football team. I got news for you, fans. We're going to have a football team next year. Don't tell me

what left. Let's talk about what we got. Here's back and I haven't mote. I met coach Brennan. I sent them a copy of my leadership book with a little information about our schools. For those coaches who are bringing young kids down here and say, hey, we got some pretty good schools. You ought to look at them, and they're free, you know. So I'm red and blue through and through, and I think we're gonna be okay. And I think actually the Big twelve fits is pretty good. I

do too. Yeah, did you see anything about the press conference with Kendrea yesterday? No? Well, you know, you know his situation. He's kind of intering with. Yeah, I'm sure that the situation with you financially is not a surprise to you, given because every school is going through it. Well, some of us have inside information, and I'm just saying, I mean, I think they had a financial mess there, and uh, you know Dave Heikey, who's a pretty straight shooter, pretty good guy.

I could make some prognostications here. What's going to happen. I think they're going to do a little cleaning house yet still, and I think our president Robinson is going to be the bad guy. And whether he remains on the scene or not, it's anybody's guests. But there's going to be some change coming. I think. Interesting. Yeah, that's not that's not a shocker. But something has to happen, right, Yeah, to a degree we

don't know. Yeah, well maybe you do. But we got a young football coach and he said, told me, disciple, Dick told me, you know him, well, I mean he was. There wasn't many people like Dick in the world, and Dick always had a great event. He invited the players to bring their favorite professor to his house for a catered dinner. He lived right across from university. He always invited my wife and I

my wife's saying it and I to that dinner every year. And one day I asked him, I said, coach, it don't take this wrong, but why do you why do you invite me to this? He said, Kevin, you're the kind of guy I went around my and Dick didn't care about a lot of things that maybe a lot of coaches cared about, but he cared about his kids and that came through and he was a player's coach.

So well, let me ask you. You talk about how there's not a lot of those guys around you know, I mean, what it takes to be a coach now anymore in any sport, in college athlete, even high school. You got to your father, right, we're seeing the high school. You know, a couple of high school football coaches successful coaches coming off great years, one coming off an undefeated state championship, and they're they're leaving the business. You know, how do we get that back where it

is? It's more enjoyable, more enjoyable and less work and anxiety than it's become. Well, you're a smart guy, Jay. Let me ask you a question. Is authority a good word or a bad word? It depends who's it is a bad word. Yeah, and you see the bumper sticker question authority. Right, I'm here to tell you what makes Lehman Academy schools good as we put authority in the class from teachers, the coach, whether he's junior, high, high school, college, whatever, he is the

authority. Well, we got coaches now and even at the pro level who cowed out to players, and so that can't work for it. Well, I talked to the coaches all the time. How are you being jet fish or ex guy? Now Brennan, who one of the players is making X amount of money? And then you know the players saying how with you? I know what I'm doing. Yeah, you can't tell me what to do. Yeah, that's exactly. And it happens all over. I've got a couple of close friends or NFL coaches, and we still talk. One of

them is a former head coach and he just shakes his head. I said, hey, is Ambabman knocking on your door? He said, Kevin, I served my time. I'm out. I'm enjoying my kids and my grandchildren. We talked about that with Candrea Lopez Rubio blah blah blah. They left at the right time and they're happy with it. I mean to this day. Yesterday Mick Andrea held a press conference and he still talked about how he left at the right time, right before all this stuff was getting started.

Now he's sort of back in it as the as the interim ay D, and he may be there for a little while, but you know, he's talked about how I really didn't want to be a coach anymore in this environment. Yeah, you got the parents snappinacha, you got kids who are rebellious. They think they're all everything right. Uh, it's it's a quagmire.

But yeah, well you got parents feeling like, Okay, my kids at the u A. He's making this money, he's obviously, you know, because he's making this money here, he's obviously good enough to make money at the next level, and you're screwing up his career because you're not throwing them the ball enough, you're not playing it. Of course, that's not always true, right, it's not Yeah, most of the time it's not true.

And most of the time it's not true. We saw guys like Scooby Wright, who was a tremendous college athlete, but he was You know what about the mental health of these coaches and with all the thing and the pressures that come with that, and and then the additional stuff they have to I mean it was already, uh, you know, eighty hour a week job, and now you've put more stuff on top of that. Where does that fit? Yeah, I'll tell you a funny story. You remember Bobby April.

Bobby April was here as an assistant coach, and Bobby and I are still friends. We talk on the phone probably every other week at least. And I'll never forget when he was coaching and I asked her, I said, Bobby, how is Christmas? He said, Doc, it was an hour and a half. And I'll never forget that because it was such an opjuice off the wall answer, but it was true. It was. Christmas was an hour and a half. Yeah, so these guys, they're all

in. I mean, Jim Young got blessed. Jim Young the only child, by the way, what a great coach. But you know, Jim used to sleep down at yeah, you know, at the you I mean, and so did Dictman in all that. So that's twenty four to seven. I don't know how those guys do it. They are in their key believing. So let me let me ask you. We're gonna have a lot to ask you. I know you watch games differently because you I know, fifteen years ago you were on the radio, were talking about the basketball team

and some of their issues. Type A, guys, alpha male, what about this basketball team? What do you see? Well? That national championship by the team was a bunch of only children and firstborn children, which is a whole another story. But this basketball team is fun to watch. I love Tommy. I love Tommy's demeanor. Number one, uh Boswell, I think is the most talented player on the court period. Okay, in terms of long term right now, he's going his mojo is out in left field

someplace. This the young guys he's brought in. Oh my goodness, it's blake and on his name. Now we've got Crevis Lewis, Lewis j Lewis, and then Jane Bradley. Can that kid play defense? He can? Can Bradley get in somebody's face? I mean, I'm seeing some things that are really gonna help us out. Now, you guys, I know you think we might split on this tonight and Saturday. But my guess is this

team has the determination. They might squeak out a sweep. But if they do, uh, that might get uh a little point guard back in South. He's just not a synk right now. Well, well, clearly this team, when you've got their attention right and they're then they're at their best. You know they're gonna you know, I mean they they're they're good enough to beat you every time no matter where you play them. The question is

do they always have your attention? Well? And see, that's that's the special ingredient that every coach you know goes to bed and looks at that crack on the wall at night and can't get to sleep. He said, I don't understand how come this kid doesn't do this or that. But you get the ball in low to ballow he can he can bang those little layups pretty good, and he takes some space, and they got kid grievous who comes in relief. They have the makings. We're only as good as our guards

are going to play. But these young guys have started to really impress me. Well, because you said Boswell was the better of the of the group, you can kind of explain why they're kind of inconsistent right now. So what gives you that impression that he's that guy? Oh, he reminds me of what Mohammad Ali used to say. He floats like a butterflies, things like a bee. That kid's got talent. He is smooth and we saw that early. Yeah, but he'll come I think he'll come back. I

think he's a real player. He's young. Remember he came here as a seventeen year old kid. So let's get let's cut him some slat. So let me give you this. Though he's seventeen eighteen now, he's got a lot of games behind him. Though he's seasons, he's seasoned by now you just heard a word from mister basketball. This guy understands the game. He really does. He's an x old guy. Well look at him. He's been doing this a lot by the way, Jay, I want you to

point out. When Jay has a guest, he asked questions about feelings, what was it like to walk out on that field, and when you first discovered that, yeah, you were in a super Bowl, or that he's got great you're a great combination. You're the excellent old guy. So you're picking me apart right now? Said, Hey, what do you think of this? You know he's had games behind him. You sound like an old basketball Well, okay, get in the game, because get in the game.

Hey, we're about not do you want to stick around for another segment? You on your way to somewhere. I could have my wife dumped me for dinner tonight. She's getting her hair done. I love to get into the Super Bowl, right And what these guys go through to go play in that game. You've been to

a few, haven't you? They watched them? I thought you no Buffalo game. No, no, you start to cry now, I'm sorry, I'll tell you this. I did. I did speak to the Bills team, which was really fun for me back when Kelly was the quarterback. You I got them all, so you're the reason I'm the loser. But he's gonna leave is what he's gonna do. And I'm not talking his feelings. I hang around with you, Okay, We'll love to just okay, we'll love to have you hang around. So we'll we're gonna take our our last

break and we'll pick your brain some more. But I'd really love to get into the mental aspect of being in a super Bowl when it's what these guys have been shooting for, some of them their entire lives, right all right, So we'll be right back. I want to get to this topic of the Super Bowl, right. I mean, let's say you're you know you're football.

You started playing football at six years old. You probably started thinking about the Super Bowl at six years old. Right now you're there and you've heard pro say, you know, I've dumped to this moment. I was a little boy and all of a sudden you're there. It's the shock and awe of it, right, you know, plus the dollars that have come your way

of just being in that Super Bowl, let alone winning it. Right, But you know, it gets down to athletes or athletes, and once all the the flares and the music and everything sort of settles down and the ball goes in the air, it probably takes a little bit for people to sort of fixate and get back into hey, this football, and it gets back to doing your job and doing your job well. But the relationships. So you talk to any athlete who strapped it up and played, and they say,

what do you miss the most? You miss the of the guys. And so it still is a pretty simple game. It's all about execution here, coaches say, that's true. We all know what we should do. It's a matter of get out there and doing it. What makes for the best coach You've seen some coaches here? Is it a communicator, is it a teacher? What is it? I think it's that combination. Lot Lout was absolutely the best. I'll never forget watching him in practice move a player

four inches. Loot had the ability and many coaches have his ability to look at that court and know where everybody should be. But the minute changes and his demands. I don't know have you ever heard this story or not, but an NBA player who ended up playing in the NBA came, we recruited him. He came in, and he came in to meet coach Oh with headphones on. Guess where he was Ninety minutes later, felt the door back.

So you have to have expectations. And one of the things I've learned as is a psychologists with kids, with families, with athletes, people live up the expectations you give them. As a parent, you've got to give your kids positive expectations, and when they screw up, you got to forgive them and love them. Well, let's tie this a little bit to the super Bowl then, So you know, Steve said, you know what makes

the best coach? Well, what makes a Super Bowl coach? You know, and I'm talking about it successful because the coaches get in and then they have a game, or they lose and they never come back. You got a guy like Belichick, you got Andy Reid, You've got these guys. Is there a common denominator to those guys that you can pick up on? Well, I remember one of our Arizona players told us about a guy named Lovey Smith. He says he was the most disorganized coach he ever. So

you can sense that. You can see that. Yeah, and you probably know who I'm talking about, but I won't mention his name. But you know, I think a coach has to be highly organized, just like a kindergarten teacher has to be orton, right. You know, the kindergartener first grade teacher walks to the back of the room because they forgot something. You're talking about six year old, five year old kids. You just lost them.

So organization is a plus, But it's that vision. It's that ability to communicate and tell the kids the truth and when you tell the kids the truth. You know, we give them vitam an e I call it. That's encouragement. But there's also vitamin N, which is no. And that's what's missing in teams, in sports and homes. I was just going to say that no doesn't fly anymore, or people doesn't stuff that it doesn't fly. People don't use that word enough anymore. No, they don't, but

it's necessary. It's what gives you the balance. If you're permissive, they're going to run over you. If you're too authority very much. We all grew up an authoritarian very much. So you probably didn't talk back to your father. Oh no, no, you got the look or you got we're talking about that. We're talking about that. I got the look, and he's got the looking more. My father would say, hey, eight o'clock and he'd point, you should have been a German, short hair, you

know that go to bed. And if you didn't move, he'd say, hey, you want to go to bed under your own own power. And then when you give the no, you're a tough you're you're not treating me right. You know, they play that the hill society comes around that old port little whatever you know, look at our legal system. I mean, you need a rap sheet long as the Nile River before anything happens to you. We live in Permissiveville, but that doesn't work. It either being authoritarian

or permissive either extreme both produce the same thing, which is rebellion. Can't have rebellion and be a winning anything exactly. You think about a guy like Nick Saban, for instance, all right, you hid some success around, went to the NFL and it didn't work at all. It comes back to Telabama and becomes arguably the greatest coach in the history of college football. He dumped some of his coaching staff, you know, he What does a guy

like that have that the other coaches didn't? And how did he all of a sudden get it? I'll tell you the truth. I wish you could share that secret with me, because he's one of the guys that I thought, you know, how can you be? He's pretty tough, right, he certainly has high expectations, But I don't know if he was the nicest guy in the world. He did, he doesn't appear to have been. No, So how he was able to get it out of those players and

recruit obviously had people who could recruit. Well, I see that. I saw that Lout. I saw that lout. Lut had this regal and towering presidence right respect you walk in the room, you knew he was in the room. And then then from the books that I've done and all that from the players, you didn't want to disappoint Loot. So what do you do? You work your ass off, you run through walls, and if you didn't, he noticed it, and guess what happened. You're you're not playing,

and Loot would I'm not breaking any confidences here. Loot would send me Player two once in a while. Yeah, they needed a little outside help, you know. But he was always great to follow up. He was always about good about appreciating. I did it gradus. But there would always be a note. I think I still have every note Lu'd ever sent me, pure gentleman, wonderful. It is a handwritten note, right now, Oh yeah, handwritten note. And just the fact that he knew to do

that. Oh yeah, right, we'll tell you that. Okay, this is a guy who won cares about his job two, cares about his players. So because of that, he's going to be successful. Yeah, but let me tell you something. He wasn't the one doing it. It was his wife, Bobby. Okay, Bobby. Where Bobby laid the foundation of the whole the family. Yeah. In fact, I spoke up in North Dakota this year twice and I went through. I found out where Mayville was,

because I remember that's where Luke grew up. I drove to the town Jay hid Steve with my little phone taking a video. You talk about a town with nothing in it, Yeah, there was nothing there, but that's where Luke came from. So he brought some of those hard work family values. You know. Cooperation was part of what he was all about. And boy, what a coach. Yeah, no he had he didn't do it because he just didn't do it. It was to Bobby's. It was the

Roses, it was the doctor. In one of my books, I quoted John Wooden, who won what ten titles. He never told his team to go out and win. He told them go out and play the game of basketball the way it needs to be played. So I would tell anybody listening to you, no matter what you're doing in life, do what you're supposed to do the way it should be right. And you know they pride in what you do right. We're talking to doctor Kevin Lema here in the studio

with us, a longtime friend for all of us. And uh, obviously somebody's got a love for sports. Uh. You have the Lehman Academy of Excellence. How many of those are they say? There's eight? Yea, we were taking another one. We're finishing one another one in Colorado right now, and they rock and roll. We're very proud of our school. I mean, you were in Tucson four and two. We have one out in Marana, one in uh Ora Valley, one midtown, and one east side

of Houton. And so along those, I'm skip something real quick. So I was looking looking at your books. I've read a few of them. The Birth Order Book I've read a long time ago and loved it obviously, But why your best is good enough? That kind of misses a lot of people. Now, just do what you can and be the best at what you can do. Yeah, And that book came as an afterthought of the Birth Order Book, where a lot of talented people grow up with critical eyed

parents and they don't end up but they should be born. Yeah, And what really happens in the Birth Order is the second born sometimes will overtake the first much to the destruction of that firstborn personality. So we talked about today Vitamin E encouragement. Hey, parents, encourage your kids, watch the critical eye. Realize that failure is a part in the life. Babe Ruth struck out thirteen hundred and thirty times. You know, I think that's right.

But don't always hit a home run your Hall of Famer, you hit three twelve lifetime, So cut some slack, know what I always tell parents, Hey, in the sea of life, do you have a protocol? Do you know where you're going? If you do, your kids are going to catch that vision. And again keeping mind, parents, those kids are going to please you. Parenthood isn't easy, but it is simple. Marriage isn't easy, but it's simple. There's a simple paradigm. Yeah, you got

to understand what they're weird. They go potty in groups. Was it simple to you, see? Yes, But I needed a partner to realize that you're right. No, In the end, it's like do your best. Yeah, right, you follow your heart and your kids and if you've got if you do that with your kids, they'll do the same. It's pretty simple. And treat them differently. Yeah, because all kids are different. Yeah, that's true. Those little firstborns, I mean, us parents.

We practiced on those suckers. They're the ice cutter in the lake a life. So how often do you watch a show or listen to the show? Okay, okay, can you, mister expert? You're my favorite show. You're you're my expert here? Firstborn, second board third What are we given? What you know? Well, you're you're the excellent. Oh guy, So and you're all right, well you've been a writer too, So write writers tend to be firstborn children. Okay, yeah, and that's obvious with

me. I think they love English. They know what they know. What a dang part of is. I mentioned that to a woman once she slapped my face. Jay is so darn relational. I'm not sure about Jay j J. Could I could see Jay coming out of the middle of the pack some place. I am. I am, but I'm sort of I'm sort of a pseudo first sort of middle but a pseudo first born because there's a seven year gap. Oh yeah, myself on my my, my brother, and three of them real close together seven years than me. And then I

got your younger sister seven years is the gap. Now we get a little added information. In many ways, he was the special jewel of the family

for a long time, and my brothers resented that. Oh yeah, oh yeah, they call them I don't know, it wasn't in Spanish ultra Yeah, thank you, but yeah, I mean so I was kind of both, right, I mean, I until like my my I've got two sisters after me, and the one who's in the middle there she's considered a middle child because she's in the middle child of the second segment of our family,

and she's a classic middle child. I love her to death, but the middle child, I would think the younger girls would look up at Jewish boy you you rock. I wasn't around enough for them. That was the other thing they gave me for because then because after me, there's a six year gap, Oh sister, So so you were like an uncle. I wasn't.

I wasn't there. I just wasn't there for them. And to this day, I mean, where you know, I'm sixty four and my wife, my sister's approaching sixty and she's still gives me you were never here. You didn't help us at all. So all right, hey, Kevin, thanks it was fun to have you here. Thanks so much for coming in and sticking around with us. This was fascinating stuff. So if you didn't get a chance, you're just getting in, be sure to pick it up

on the podcast. We'll be up there on the podcasts. And don't forget to go to our our social media and send us an email if you want to his book. Have a new kid by Friday. I don't want a new kid, thank you. Steve doesn't want any more kid, Kevin, Thanks a bunch, and best of luck to your bills next season. All right, well we're out here. We'll be back on Monday. We'll break down the super Bowl. Thanks for being here all week.
