This is Eye on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez Son Fox Sports fourteen to fifty, powered by Nova Insurance Services and Sure your most Prized Possessions katz R two side at iHeartRadio Station. Yet. Hey, good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to Eye on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, He's Jay Gonzalez. We've got our guys sit in with us today. Mary looking over his shoulder. Maybe another intern for the future.
Yep, big win, big win a center just a win. Well, well, everyone's a big win because they've got to they've got to win them, all right. So yes, it was a big win. I mean, was it a big win because it was a su No, it was a big win because they got to win the rest of their game. So true to form, at least in the Gonzales form formula I thought they would cover. In fact, I said eighteen just because that was my life. But I want to review the tape because I'm not sure whether to believe
you or not. But tell me what you thought about it before the game. Look, and I know you're you're gonna come in here and say, as you made it close, and it looked like they could lose, and they look unpredictable and all that crap, okay, and it's crap because because they were it was predictable. They were never in danger of losing that game. Ever, I thought, even when it got down to five in the second half, you know, as you never had the ball, okay,
when they could cut it to one possession, not one time. So you know, and I said on the show after you, after you deserted us uh, that I thought Arizona would get out to a lead, be in the double digits most of the time, as you would make a run, probably cut it into into single digits at some point, and then Arizona would pull away at the end. That's exactly what I said. If you want to review the tape, I will cut the tape for you and play it
for your first line of duty is writing today's date down or yesterday. I was right one time the time. Ever, I was right one time, and say that will frame it and that that's where that's really what I thought was gonna happen. I lo it was sorry. I wasn't sure whether the twelve you know, the twelve and a half point line was give it or take it, and it was it was, and it was around twelve fourteen point most of the you know, with fourteen points at the half. A
SU came out in the second half cut into it. As I said, I think I want to look back at the play by play, and at seven minutes it was a five point game, but they don't have the ball, and so a Su did not have the ball at any point that it was a five point game where they could cut it to a one possession game. I would have wis showed about the Bucks score, because you know, I as as skeptical as I am with Caleb Love. And then we'll talk about this too if you want. I thought he had a fantastic game.
He didn't overshoot right, he was under control, He hit some big threes, he went five for twelve. I like him shooting twelve to fourteen shots in game, not eighteen to twenty. Yeah. Look, there wasn't anything that they did last night that I didn't like. I know, you sent me a text about about jayde and Bradley just not giving up the ball on you know he needs to. But he played a great game so well that he stayed in the game after after Colin Boswell got his fourth and that's when
they pulled away. So but do you notice do you notice how he plays? Yeah? How does he play? Jayden? Jayden? He's very fast and it can be good, but it can also hurt you at the time. I wish you would give up the ball. Sometimes, yeah, sometimes not all the time, because he does get to the basket, gets in the middle and screw well say, and that's the thing he's got. He's got incredible confidence that he can get to the basket against anybody, and he
often does. Well, Now you have two dudes like that, You've always had two dudes like that, Yeah, with love, with love, and Boswell can do it too, he just doesn't do it near as much. Well, he's more. He tends to he tends to pass the ball around the perimeter and fine, guys, But there wasn't anything that was going on in that game last night that I thought, Oh, they need to fix
that, Oh they need to fix that. They need to teams are going to make runs against them, and Tommy said that they have to be comfortable being in the situation that they were in last night. And I never ever ever thought Ace he's got a chance to win this game. Okay, So then and he said that, I guess Brian talked about this before he asked the question. Said, earlier in the week, you talked about being in close games and having just revived blah blah blah. Okay, let's go back
and review Princeton. And I'm going to a game that we all know. They didn't have to be close. They could have just eventually put their feet on the on the ground, on the pedal and then beat them by double digits and on. And they didn't. And they didn't because sometimes the other team, as you say, yes, the other team does things. Sure, sure, but now but now you've changed the narrative because it wasn't about
them doing things. It was about Arizona collapsing pretty much. Yea. So sometimes and he talked about this, and I wish I knew the term he used. He didn't say, wiggle woo. We need to make the spread big so we have the room to maneuver. Yeah, right, And and he doesn't. I guess last night they did that. Last night's exactly what they do. Remember who they played j issues. I get it is not a tournament team, aget it, but let's remember a sub Washington State on
Saturday night. So they're capable, Okay, sure they and they want some. You know, they were at one point and we talked when we talked to Holder being at one point in the in the in the pack well season, we thought they might be good. I even said it on your radio when it would burn my eyes to say that Mark this down on the side of good. Jay he was on the other thing. It hurt. It hurt my It hurt my heart to say that. And they turned out to
not be. But but the point being that Steve Princeton's perfect a perfect example. Any team on any night can be pretty damn good because if you're playing college basketball, you're good. And if all five or eight of you are really good on the same night, that's how b YU goes and beats Kansas at Kansas. I'm really cheering up because he's finally listening to me. You finally on any given day, YadA, YadA, which is good. I mean, they look good last night. I liked them, how they played.
They played well enough to beat them by eighteen. Oregon's gonna're gonna paraty beat the crap out of Oregon two Uh, next week is gonna be some tests. It's gonna be hard and squad after today, what's tomorrow March, yeah, and here's the rest of the seasons. But I certainly you know, you know, based on how they played. They were just methodical last night. They went out, grabbed a big lead early, they were getting down here, you know, made some shots, played some defense. I
mean, a SU had twelve points at the under seven. They couldn't at the under eight time out. And why was that? Because you gotta you gotta say, there's because there's almost playing some pretty decent defense. Now they but but Arizona, you know, but if Arizona was playing bad, We've seen bad teams right hit shots against Arizona. Their defense is crappy. They're just so they but they they harassed as U all night long. They were
there. You know. The the key play of the night, uh Arizona, Arizona turns it over whoever it is is going down to for a layup. Jayden Bradley chases them down, knocks the ball out so he so they don't get the back, then goes the other side and gets an end one. That was it A SU was a c was gonna was was, you know, on a run right there, and you know they go get an and one and they're back up ten. You know, so they did things that made a su look bad, were worse than they already are, right
right, No, they there's a lot of key games. I remember that one Boswell's rebound underneath the basket and the kind of the reverse lay up underneath that was huge. That was the rebound that was a loose ball, that was a pass whatever that went into Bellow and I think it either got tipped or it went past him. And then jay Kyla was there to catch it and he laid it in and when he was under the basket and he light
club and then then I thought, Caleb blows three pointers. He hit those two back to back three pointers that were just when the lead, the lead had gotten cut to five, all of a sudden, it's eleven again, right, So so you know, more power to them. They played really well. That's great, uh, and now they move on, so we'll see what happens. Look cliche coming up one game at a time, evere games of the season, right game season. I'm not gonna say that because
you say that, I'm saying one game of the time. That is cliche, but it is. But you know, now they got Oregon coming into town. Uh, you haven't been looking great. They're unlikely to get into the tournament. Yeah. Uh and and and Arizona's got him at home. Take care of this business and then go take your shot in l A and see what happens, you know, with a with a chance to h to be still be a number one. I mean, they can't miss step because
other teams. Last night, Tennessee was on the ropes and they came back and won. There are another on one seed on that four line or whatever it is, the number fourth place with North Carolina, Tennessee and Arizona, that's what's gonna get it, you know. And and then again it's going to depend on matchups again, right you get to the back off tournament. They posted on the on the thing, they posted what the bracket would be, you know today, based on you know where where they were in the
standings last night. And Arizona's first round game would be against either Utah Stanford. I'm sure Arizona fan doesn't like either of those games. Yeah, yeah, no, it's the true on a neutral court card Utah and Stanford and again Stanford two years in early I think in the packed off tournament has has made a dicey for you know, for Arizona fans. So we'll see what
happens. That's that's the good thing is not today, it's in three weeks, two weeks, two weeks, two weeks, two weeks from today, the Arizona Arizona first game in the packed off tournament, right, and then the butchery the rest of the weekend. Not that anybody else needs. Where where do you eat and hang it? So you just hit the media BA phase and the no, there's no media but face there's no. Oh you mean at the games? I don't yeah, because no, it's they have
chips and salsa. I mean it's not a burgers and stuff. No, I don't remember having food there. I don't know. No, so we just have to go to the restaurants. No, not that I remember. No, it's it's those yellow fish things and the consodas and the vitamin drink. Really, so that's the staff that gets it. Well, I know that's tournament. I can't remember the media. No, there's a media buffet. I'm asked about it and the team. Oh, then I go to
outside. You're right, it's yeah, yeah, it's that's the one shot deal. Yeah no, yeah no, because we're at staying in UK. Where do you like over there? Oh, I'm in New York, New York or just in that anywhere little No, this is on my dime. You don't go to Gallagher's in New York, New York by stay get the seventy dollars steak. No, you're crazy. I'm not Gonnet, I'm not lead. They can't even afford They can't afford it either. It's funny. Okay, okay, what else is going on? We have a game tonight.
There is a game tonight Arizona women's basketball taking on number seven usc U Ideas trying to pack the house. If you can get ten thousands, are you gonna go? No? No, no, but I wouldn't mind seeing the seeing them, this team and they are scrappy, and I mean now now they don't even have I mean just there's only seven people are gonna be in uniform. In the past at least had some people in uniform and who
didn't play. But now it's like seven people in uniform when they when they line up tomorrow or tonight, and you know, if you saw the first game, which I strangely did just to see, uh Juju Watkins had a fantastic game, but Arizona stayed with them three three three, go with them for three quarters and then and then and then it got away from them over there. So I think they're gonna go and feel like they can do this,
you know, at least have a shot at doing this. They're gonna have to get off to a good start, you know, kind of let us know that they're that they're there, uh, and see what happens. But I think it should be fun, it should be interesting, and I would think that the crowd will be there to get behind them, right so that they with everything. You know, the fans here love this team, they have since that. But this and this is also the toughest part of
their schedule, right, don't they have four straight? No? This is it. This is the last tew these two games. Okay, So the regular, their packed up tournament starts next week to back to back top ten teams. Yeah seven and eight. USC is seven, u c l A is eight, and then we'll obviously the term the stretch here is going to be very important. Today if they pull one off. Maybe they get in yeah yeah, and maybe win the game in the tournament, in the packed
toal tournament, yep, maybe they get it, yep. So it should be to be fun. But it's a it's a big game for them tonight. So we'll see, all right, coming up tonight, coming up to
I didn't write the names on the board, Anthony Leone. Right, I wonder if this is his first game or how many? If you're maybe maybe, I think he's made for
it. I really no question. In fact, Josh, stop coaching. Just do this, Just do this. It's more fun. Yeah, it's probably a lot less lucrative. Well, he doesn't need lucrative anymore. Oh, okay, he may want lucrative, he may that, but he probably doesn't need you tell him that. Well, okay, you know what Josh toned down, you know, tone down the monthly expenses. Okay, Jay stopped making ten dollars part. I hope he made some good investments. I'm

Hey, welcome back to I'm the Ball
here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jay. Now in fun, we have coach Anthony Leone from Sunnyside High School wrestling coach, how are you. I'm doing well. Good to hear from you guys. Again, what a heck of a run you guys, I could have been saying this left tip. We just say it year this. We have this show every year. So another state championship for Sunnyside. You get tired. I'm sure you don't get tired of it. No, it always feels good,
feels good onto the next though. So wait, okay, so you say that, but really, come on, I'm you got to take a little time to enjoy another championship. Even though they come up kind of regularly for you, how do you take them? Take them each year? Yeah, I mean it is like kind of a culmination, and I think that it's always tough when you get talk them with the season and you got to give
the kids a little bit of time to rest their bodies. You know, sometimes they're a little banged up. But I mean it almost immediately as a coach, you're going into like, you know, you're looking at rosters, you're you're thinking about raising money, and it's just onto the next So how you know how coaches give it twenty four hours forty eight hours. How much enjoyment can you get out of it? I would assume all the way through the next beginning of the next year. Yeah, I mean, I yeah,
I mean it always feels good. I mean I I feel better for the kids that accomplished their goals, you know. And I just think the moment you start really you know, feeling good about things, is it kind of it can mess with the next season. Yep. So I should have paid attention to this, but I didn't. So first of all, how many state champions did you have? And how many of those are multi year state champions? We had eight state champions, which tied the record that we
broke a couple of years ago, so that was a great accomplishment. And we had two three time state champions and they'll be coming back to attempt their fourth state title. We had a senior that went out on top of the state champion, we had. We had another two time state champion he won his second, and we had we one time state champions. First, first of the state champions, we had two seniors that went out on top. That was great, awesome. So and then you know, you had Audrey
Humanez who won, who came in and won a boys state championship. We'll and we'll talk about her in just a second, because there's lots of us to talk about there, But you know, let's just talk about your season and and how you things were going, How things were going for you. Were you pretty confident going into state that you had the team to do this again? Uh? And what made you where was your you know, where was your head at kind of with your team headed into into the state?
Yeah, I mean it was a it was an interesting year. Early early in the season, we we lost two seniors to injury, to season ending injuries, one with the with the a c L another one with a shoulder injury, and and both of them were you know, almost shoeings to be state champions, and one of them was a two time defending state champion.
So it created a little bit of adversity for us. But we we had a freshman that we inserted into the lineup and and we just some kids stepped up and they kind of, you know, they finished really well, and really where my head was at, you know, late in the season was just about taking all the pressure off the kids and getting them to understand that it's just high school wrestling and used to go have fun and score a bunch of points and you take it all in and not take it too seriously.
And we did that and we we went out there, it's scored a lot of points. Well it seems so simple, but I'm sure there's more to it. So but you you you've start with thirty seven years is that correct? So this doesn't so this doesn't happen by accident, coach, So, uh, these kids must start at what age and are determined to see it
all the way through high school? Yeah? I mean they started all different ages, but you know, there's one ingredient, and which is you know, which is great, great hard work and you know, and taking the sport seriously but not maybe not too seriously, having fun with it and learning, learning as much as they can and not continuing to learn and not never
never being content with not knowing. You know, I would think that that would kind of be maybe one of the biggest challenges you have as a coach, you know, when you've won this many championships, it's such a tradition, you know, it's it's a tradition for you know, the school for the neighborhoods around there, for the families too, you know, not to not expect this right that you still got to work hard for it. How do you find that being difficult? Is everybody pretty well on board with you
know, the right the right approach that type of thing. You know, how does how does that go with you guys? Well? Yeah, Nick Saban calls it the rat poison. Yes, a great speech a few years ago about the rat poison. And so you know it starts at the top. And you know, my job is to make sure that we focus daily on on our habits and you know, practicing hard, being on time, just doing the little things. But you know, ultimately the big things can
care of themselves when you're just doing the little things. You're just doing them and all the little things that just seem to add up for whatever reason. Okay, we'll talk about Well it's Audrey Humaniz. Let's talk about that history, right made. She became one of the I think she's the first a female to win a boys state championship, one a very few to have even
qualified for state in the in the boys division. Just talks a little bit about that journey, how she handled it, how you handled it, and then and how the team handled it. Yeah, I mean, Audrey Hemanez is just just unbelievable for more than one reason. You know, it's awesome being talented at wrestling or you know, being very skilled, and she's just a total package. She's a great teammate. You know, she's she's very
humble and she just does it the right way. And you just I struggle even talking about not having her a round because it was just it took it. You know, she was like a coach on the on the practice, uh, and on the mat. But yeah, I mean, what a great heat she she She went out there, she set her mind to it a year ago that she wanted to go and win the boys state championship, and a boy did she do it. But it didn't. It didn't happen
without some adversity. She was in the world semi finals in uh and she she she had an injury, and uh, she had the battle back from
the injury. In fact, going into the state tournament she was only seven and oh you know, so she had a very abbreviated season and you know, she just she just stepped to what she's done, which is to put her head down and believing herself and score a bunch of points and have fun with it, and she did, because look, we're guys and we you know, Uh, I mean, was there any any situation or any point where you know the fact that there was a girl competing against the guys that
you saw either from your own team, from teams that you know that she she matched up against them, And I have to ask you just did she face anything that was you know, maybe uncomfortable because she was a girl wrestling in the boys division and you know, potentially going to make a couple of guys look bad. Yeah, I mean, nothing that I noticed, But you know, certainly in the practice room, she's she's an equal, and she's proven, she's proven that day in and day out, she's an equal.
And uh, look, I think that when you step on the mat and it's just two people out there, there's no sour grapes, you're a headitor and you get beat. It just it is what it is. It happens, and it just happened to be that Audrey was the best hundred and six pounder in Arizona this year. So let's talk real quick about her. Two. When did you first meet her and did you see potential in her or did she or did you? Was she kind of already started on her
route to this point before you met her? Yeah? I met her a few years before high school, maybe sixth grade, and you could tell maybe maybe the level of talent wasn't there, but definitely the work ethic was, you know, and she she's basically built herself with hard work and a lot of intelligence. She's very open to being coached and she's very very smart.
But ultimately, I mean, really it's just her work ethic, her infatiable hunger to get better and never you know, she always works like she's she always works like there's somebody trying to catch her. Is really what It is interesting because you know, I mean, wrestling is the sport your kids come in. They want to be stay champion, maybe go to go to college, those kinds of things. When did when did it occur to you or
occur to her that there was potential beyond that? You know, because as we've talked about, you know, she's trying to you know, become an Olympian. How did that develop? When did that develop? And and and what what's the road going to look like from here on out for her?
Yeah, it's a process for any young wrestlers. Like I was telling somebody the other day, it's like, you've got to be the best on your team, and then you got to be the best in the city, and then you got to be the best in the state, and then then you go to the nationals and then once you win a few national titles, and what's next. And it's just naturally she's she's matured quite a bit. And again, her habits are in mind with like the highest level competitor any sport,
you know. So if you have those those those strong habits and you're a competitor and you want to do it at the highest level, I mean, go and winn an Olympic gold and then I think that's where she at right now. So tell us you were down in Mexico last week, tell us what that was, and then what the process for her to, you know, go through that she's got to go through to get a chance at
being in the Olympics. Sure, yeah, yeah. So so just a few hours after the state championships, Audrey and Ivy we flew down to the Pan American Games in Acapulco, Mexico, and it was basically an Olympic qualifier. Now, the United States has already qualified at her weight class because the
United States representative at the World Championships medled. So the path moving forward is April seventeen through the twentieth the Olympic Trials in State College, Pennsylvania, and if Audrey's blessed enough to be the representative, then you know it's Paris in late July. So is it just one there's not like a couple in each division, it's just she's got to win one hundred and whatever weight she is.
Yeah, so she's so she's qualified for the Olympic Trials. There will be brackets of eight to eight to twelve competitors and you have to there's a there's a very strict qualification as to how you can qualify. Audrey's qualification. What was by virtue of her World medals at age group. She was World silver U twenty three. She was World silver U twenty So she's qualified. And so essentially she's just got to win the bracket and you wrestle the final
match, the final final competitor. You wrestled best two out of three for the spot. And yeah, that's that's kind of where she got. So beyond what you just talked, talked about with the Olympics. What's her future? Is she going to school or what's your situation? Yeah, I think she's she's she's in the process of getting ready to announce which which university she's going to go through. I mean, she's the number one pounds per pound
girl wrestler in the country and highly sought after. But not only that, she's an incredible student, you know, and the schools that were recruiting her and coveting her her wrestling, it's just unbelievable. And so she she could pick pretty much anywhere she wanted to go, and I think she's narrowed down and getting ready to you know what within the next few weeks and nouns where she's going. So Slemanski in terms of, you know, she's coming out
of high school. The competition that she's going to face at the Olympics, are those are those mostly college wrestlers? Is she you know, is she a little young for this? Where does she sit as far as that goes, because that, you know, obviously makes a difference. Yeah, most most of the wrestlers are you know, at that at that level, are you know, they're women, They're not they're not girls. They're twenty five years old, they're thirty years old. And but I think she's ready for
it. She's kind of I think she's always she's always taken the approach of being the underdog, even if even if she's not, And so I think that she issues in that, and she she embraces the idea that they're older and more mature, maybe a little stronger and more experienced. And I think that just teach her. Okay, coach, we appreciate your time. Yeah, the best, Like you'll be on everywhere she goes. You're going with her. That'll be her decision around. Hopefully I'll be hanging around. I
call myself the best, the best, bad carrier. Yeah, I'll be around. Hopefully she takes me all right. Okay, Well, good luck, good luck coach. Congrets again, absolutely, thank you, Thanks you guys, thank you. Coach leone from a Sunnyside you says, wrestling against twenty five year old thirty year old? I mean, like what seventeen maybe eighteen to I was gonna tell him this one. He knows this in my mind, and I could be wrong. Wrestlers are the toughest people in the
Wow, Yeah, come on, you're not busting your asses. We're doing stuff in your body to waste your time. Yeah, yeah, no, absolutely not. I mean they're and as he said, you know, somebody to succeed at that, you've got to have incredible work at because one, it's all you, sure right. You don't have you know, a receiver that you're throwing to or you know, you're you're not a you know,
a catcher that's calling your pitches or whatever. This is. It's all you and you got it's all you, and it ain't golf and it ain't tennis. Well no, you're right, no exactly. And it's funny because we have the m M A guys, member of time or two and what's the question, why are you doing this? What are you doing this? Why would you want to get punched in the face? So well, good luck to good luck to add you here man is uh uh he the Olympic trials in April, yeah, April, so we'll see, uh, we'll see

What do you think about tonight last night's game? Tonight's game? Maybe the interview with coach the olm one color called maybe two years ago we don't talk to Sunnyside people. We talked to him all the time. We do all the time, and yeah, and we had you know, somebody on on Twitter said, you know, don't
forget about Sunnyside Wrestling. We've never forgot about Sunnyside. It's like they got to make time for us, right because we're so busy winning championships. Let's take this call. You're on the air and I on the ball. Hey, Vic, you're what are you on the freeway with the windows down? I am No, it's not the windows I hope. Can you hear me, We can hear you. I'm on the way, on the way to go support a D and the girls. Man, all right, okay,
what do you think it's gonna be tough? You know he sounded kind of like, oh no, you know what the good thing about Vicky, he doesn't text me during the Women's Games. Only last night last night, you know, he texted me a couple of times. It's gonna be okay, Nick, were you nervous last night? Yeah? I was? I really was. You know that uh that a s U team. I was scared they were gonna put together a run and we were gonna we were gonna relax.
Uh huh so we came through. But uh so I actually called to give Steve Greece because he's always talking crap about I take pictures with all my athlete friends, and of course he had a take one with superstar Mike Gibb. Me. Okay, but I actually called to tell you guys what a great interview that was with with Ada. But this Sunnyside one was pretty darn good. You guys did a great job that. I got to take a picture with Audrey a couple of weeks ago with the Flowing Wealth Tournament. So
I'm gonna have to send that to you, Steve. You know vic I mean you you lived here for a thousand years. I mean she's like historic. I mean she's like an athlete, an athlete that this we'll talk about for a long time. Don't you think I'm one of those you know, like a like a like a fat lever like uh Shawn Elliott. Uh you know somebody at that level, don't you think about her? Man? Because uh And that's why I appreciate you guys, because that was awesome. Yeah.
So so let me tell you, with all those pictures, you could be a mister owns and have all those pictures at your house. The first one I'm going to put up with you and Mike though, Okay, thank you, Okay, so you say, okay, So I asked you what you think to know you good? It's going to be really hard. I mean, what do you think? I mean, what what do they have to do? She's a generational player? Yeah, you kind of that. She gets hurt thirty and you slow everybody out there right. Well, they
hung with them up up at us. See. I know I got away from in the fourth quarter, but they hung with them for a while. If they're at home and they've got the crowd behind them, and so I'm hoping once again, like I'm told Steve one hundred times that it scared me shoot her do some things up. But if we can make a few shots,
anything can happen to night. These girls play hard. I really really respect those what are we calling the magnificent Yeah, that's where they are, ye okay, and they are playing hard, So anything can happen, okay or okay, drive safe man, thanks man, my Gabriel gay like Gabriel ins every call, Bear down, go cat, good luck tonight. Yeah, that was funny. It's gonna be hard, yeah, okay, but and it will be. Vick is one of those fans. He texted me
a couple of times last night. I'm thinking, breath, that's gonna be okay, yeah, and then he tells me it was never in Dow. Ye. See, I believe it was never in dow I really do. You didn't text me that? Well? You know what, I don't text you during most games, and I text you if well, I'll text you if I'm losing a bet or something like that. Team, you know, I just you know, during the games, I've just gotten to whether it's a football game or a or a basketball game, I just kind of try
and just stay off of it. You know. I silenced my brother Rick during football games. I don't want to hear from him because and and and uh, there's a couple other people, but you know, and there'll be some times some people texting me and stuff and I read them. I generally don't respond during games, which is because because by the time you text something, it can all be it can all be different. And it was last night they got They got it to five Killer Love Hits, The three Goes
It Hits, another three. It's like, whatever you were worried about when it was five, stop worrying about it. I enjoyed the game because one I didn't have. The Internet was really sketchy up there and the stuff, so I didn't see any Facebook boats. Oh these guys are horrible. Wait, they're okay. You know the world's gonna end. Wait, the sky cleared up, you know it's I didn't pay attention to that, thank god. But I did see the one that you said you noticed, I didn't
respond, which the ball needs to pass the ball something like that. I wonder will chicken stats. I don't know what is averaging assist wise, if you could, you know his percentage. There's no question he plays downhill, plays with a lot of confidence. Right, is not what you said? Uh, but once he gets that ball, he ain't getting He's he's Michael Wright. I don't I don't see like that to the extreme of Michael Wright. But he doesn't like the past. I don't consider him a black hole
like you do. I think yesterday, though, overall, they did a better job of sharing the back they did. They did. In fact, I tweeted that I think every time they find the man who's open. They look fantastic. That's what his offense is about, finding the open man. You get guys going downhill, then you kick it out, then you kick it out. A lot of them were back doors or in the guys cutting to the basket. Hell Larson, he's surprised me with how much he's improved
he's gotten. Yeah, it's like he realizes, I'm almost done here. I better get my stuff done. Okay, Okay, do you think let's see give me a trick question? Go ahead, Okay, he plays, He plays twenty minutes. No, he plays nineteen point twenty minutes a game. Plays twenty minutes a game. Colem Boswell plays twenty seven minutes. Caleb Love plays thirty two minutes a game. Jayden Bradley has fifty eight assists. Okay, okay, so that's two two and a half assists per game for
a guy coming off the bench. That's pretty good, don't you think? Is Caleb Caleb Caleb Love, He's got ninety five assists in thirty two games, so he's averaging just around three games and Boswell and Boswell is averaging uh a little more than that, because he's got one hundred and one assists. He's guess who's got the most assists. I think it does by one. But Colin Boswell was averaging twenty seven and a half minutes a game one hundred
one assists, so just under for a game. In fact, I think that was one of the questions to Tommy about him being a better Jadan, being a better passor or being more aware. Says, we're working on that. You know, he's very aggressive. We understand that he likes he is who he is. He's a McDonald's all American. What do those guys do this score? Score this score? And that's what he's used to kittle love
What did he do this score? So Tommy's kind of had to refocus or re repurpose them, if you will, to becoming more of a team player with still having them as scorers. Right, and his assister turnover ratio is the same as the other guys Jayde and Bradley is just under two to one. Uh. Boswell is right at two to one one hundred and one assists, fifty turnovers, and uh and uh Jade and Bradley is uh for fifty eight assists twenty five turns. So it's okay you're telling sister turnover ration.
Okay, so you're all wrong. No, no, no, that you're talking turnovers. I'm talking to sis. But he's giving up. He's got he's got a bunch of He's and a half game. Okay, he could be a three and a half, he could be a four. He plays twenty minutes a game. What do you want four? Four? My god? Watch You don't get to watch a game only to watch only Boswell has has is even close to the averaging for assists a game, and he's not
averaging for us. If you were able to look up and watch the game, I know you can't, you would see that that's who he is. He doesn't pass the ball, he just does. He does. But he when when he goes in the lane, Oh he doesn't. Okay, I get that. He goes in the link because he can score. He's always going to He's just he doesn't take jumpers. He's as good a score in the lane as anybody they've got. Well, without question, he can hang up there. Well, then I don't have a problem with what he does.
What's that I don't have a problem with him doing that. Then if he's gonna score, we could differ. No, you're you're wrong, and I'm ready you're wrong. I'm right, But another one say it. No, No, I'm not going to my deathbed saying that because I hear other people saying the same thing. He's got to learn how to give it up if he doesn't have a shot pulling downhill, pass the ball. It was
like love when he had he had Bollow against Washington State. Where do you have him wide open under the basket and he didn't give up the ball. The one thing you guys can agree on. Isy's defense has been yes, and that's that's, that's it. And last night Boswell said that those two and they can say whatever. But Boswell that he plays really well with with with Bradley. Uh and they and they have last night they went small and they were pretty good. Yeah. Yeah, well, I don't have a
problem with anything that Jayden Bradley is doing. So there, okay, no, no, no, no, you're entitled. I mean we're fine with us sleep there either, all right, that's fine, but I you know again he's look, the pieces the pieces are really I think fitting right now. Yeah, well, Arizona, well, you know Umar Bollow another doubles double j j you say right now, but a week ago they didn't fit in one a one game situation. Yeah, no, you're right, you're
right. So well again, you know, the team that doesn't do that in the six game stretch is the team that wins the National change. That's it. That's it, and you can't and Princeton proved that you can't even do it in the first round anymore. Right, got another call? All right, let's take this car Hire on the air on the ball, Gabe, how are you guys doing playing? Gabe? How you only got about a couple of minutes, Gabe? So go happy that Arizona got got sweep
against the dumbasses nor Yeah, I'm pretty happy. They need to win this coming Saturday again, uh the Oregon Uh so anyway, yeah, yeah, we'll see what happens. Okay, did ye? I'm assuming you watched the game last night? We gave you there. Yeah, we're barely barely barely hearing you. Yeah, yeah, okay, I'm here. At any point last night, did were you worried that they were going to lose the game? When Arizona when the morn's up North, we're making are you run?
So? But in the last eight minutes of the Arizona finally from the tide and start scoring more points. So anyway, but but even when they got it, but even when they got it to five, okay, because they had letting double digits most of the night. But even when as you got it to five, did you really think, oh, no, we're gonna lose. No, Arizona. Has Arizona had more, had more, have better players compared to to the goaling Tempede. They the school in Tempe doesn't
have players back camp match for match against Arizona. All right, okay, thanks, k we gotta go. Yep, got hit the top of around Arizona, thank you, Oh my god. Good Okay, we always count on it. But you know, and look, I know, and I'm sure there were a lot of Arizona fans nervous, you know when when the game got a little close thought it was dicey, I'm certain of it. But that's because Arizona fans are so used to getting kicked in the you know
what, you know in these kinds of situations. The last time was very loud. It was loud because it was about sixty forty you predicted sixty five thirty. It was very loud. The students were very loud. Were there's there they said, there was supposed to be four thought and students and there were there were a lot of them. There were a lot of them. And it's such like a it's like an old vintage warehouse. Now it's like just kind of not a it's not a pleasant place. No, pleasant,
it's not the right word. But it's it's like a work like an airport using the old La Sports arena at the basis is it better than doesn't smell like you're uh so if if that's a one or two, this is about a four or five. But it's not done. And they were built at the same time, right mcalle in this place, it was built just a little after it. And it was just like it doesn't have any charm to
it. It's just the building with people. But it gets loud, like if you're in a crowd of a warehouse and it got gotten out because both sides were you out. Yeah, you can tell, you can tell on on the on the on the broadcast that it was it was pretty loud. And you know Arizona fans were you know, they were being heard, but a FU fans, you know, when they those couple of times that they
cut the lad you know you heard them too. So my daughter for the first time saw the curtain of the distraction on the thing and she goes, what the hell is that? I'm sorry who my daughter, Alana, she had never seen it. Rachel had seen it, but Alana had never seen it. She goes, what the hell are they doing over there? So I got a quick question and we'll talk about this on the other side from
Sam who listens to us. He says, Steve, do you think UA blows leads with poor decision making and still dependent on threes when we don't need threes? Great question. We'll answer that on the other side because that's a great question. It is a great question, and we'll think about that for we might have different answers. So okay, let's go to break. Yeah, because well I'm gonna invoke with Steve is when we answer that. Okay, cool, Okay, So all right, let's go and take our break.
We're gonna come back breaking news from sid here at the top of the hour, and then Josh Passner will join us. He'll be doing the ESPN game on Sunday On Saturday with Arizona he'll be doing color for that, and he's always fun to talk to you, so stick around for all that
