This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifty powered by Nova Insurance Services and Sure Your Most Prized Possessions kat z R two, SAG and iHeartRadio Station Yet than Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to IE on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jay. We got our guy Sid. Maybe Sid can siders straight. We need to be set straight every day. Steve, You welcome to Thursday
show. Lot's going on. If it's not, we're screwed because we're just scattered all over the place. That's fine. A nice show today, Yeah, yeah, yeah. We got Todd Holthouse coming in. We'll talk to them u Pema College women's basketball. They also are ranked nationally along with the men's team, so we'll see how things are going with Todd. Haven't spoken to him in a while, so good friend of the show. So I want to get a get an update on how things are going over there.
They're doing very well. Obviously they had a big win last night, so we'll have him discuss what happened and and that's cool, that's fine with us. And then in the second hour we hope to get to Tommy Lloyd. Right, the Tommy Lloyd press conference was today. We we we no, I'm never gonna talk about this, but we expect to have it at four fifteen or in the in the second hour at the four fifteen four to twenty segment. We'll play it in its entirety. You know, they go.
It goes about fifteen minutes, so we'll we'll let you hear the questions and the answers and how the press conference goes, and see what you think. Obviously getting ready for ACU on Saturday, right right? Uh, do you call it a big weekend or no? Yeah, they all are, Steve, I think you know, Arizona can't be tripping over itself, and especially at home. You know, they got three games coming up at home after a nice sweep of the of the Mountain schools. You know they haven't They
have a real good chance to put together a six game winning streak. And when you got everybody else you know around the country, you know, losing and losing at home if you can, if you can, you know, stand your ground at home and and win those games. Uh, you know you'll keep at worst keep your position from a seed standpoint and at best improve on it. I think, you know, it's the way it's developing. Yukon and and and Purdue. You know, they're they're solidly in the one
and two spots. You know, Houston's got a decent grip on the three spot. But you know, you never know if they I mean they went and lost to you know, somebody at home, so things can happen. So you just got to keep winning, and you especially have to keep winning at home. And last year, remember Ace, you came in here, they did and they beat Arizona. They did. Tommy got asked about that, and uh, you know, well, you know it's it's important.
Every game now is important because especially with the way teams are bunched up in the probably the three through nine spots, you know, in the rankings and stuff like that. At you know, you got to you just got to keep winning and and and stay as they would say, stay ahead of the posse. Right right, No, that's good. Do you remember at least that you remember that? Yeah, I was behind that basket, so I remember all that. I didn't I didn't forgot. I haven't forgotten about it.
That shot went up right in front of me. And it went up and I'm like, that's good. And then and it was good. Yeah, you could tell from then the moment he let it go, you knew it was good and it and its swished and it was you know, he didn't bank it, he did. I mean, it was just money. And so you know, I mean, Steve, if you're you're an athlete, well you used to be an athlete. I mean you're thinking about it,
aren't you. Yeah, you know, I know coaches like to say, oh, we're you know, we're not motivated by what happened last year, because this year is this year. I think if you're Arizona players who were here last year, of course you're motivated, especially the circumstances last in the year, Senior night right appell at Larson. You know, Kylon Boswell, Umar, those guys who were here last year, they have to be not thinking about it from the standpoint of of, you know, letting it
occupy their minds and and and you know what they're doing. But from the standpoint of we want to go out there and play our asses off to make sure they don't have a chance to do that again, right, right, So we'll see what happens if anybody want to call, please do I want to continue our discussion. You weren't here yesterday and throw that out there. Maybe you had a night to sleep on this, remind me sleep five two, five, six seven four four zero. Who would you rather have in
your back for a final shot? No? No, who would you rather have in your back court? Oh you didn't say that. I thought we were talking about a last shot? No, no, we were talking about the tandems because we talked about would you have I thought you were talking about the Ben mather and Caleb Love argument about taking the last But we'll go there too, Caleb Love or Caleb Love and Kylon Boswell or Dale and Terry and be Oh yeah, I said that too. I still think because I think
both both those guys are a little more well rounded. You know, Ben mathern can do a lot of things. Yeah, but I'm not sure that I would be one hundred percent comfortable with Dale and Terry as my point guard over these other two guys. Who are you taking? I know you? Yeah, i think I'm still leaning that way just because Dayal and Terry's defense, I really value that, and I feel like bathroom. As far as
his size, and his shot getting to the basket. And on the other end too, Yeah, would you have would you rather have Benedict than the than the than Caleb? Yeah? I think I think as a as an overall player, I think he's more well rounded overall. Okay, so that's not what you thought, Well, then I will go to here. Here's here's part of it. I see. I don't see Ben Mathon as a guard. Yeah, I see him as a three. He's very low. I see him as a three. So if you need it's not the question
from yesterday, no, but the reason that. But that's the reason I don't see him him as him and Dale and Terry as a great guard tandem because I don't see Ben Mathon as a guard. I see him as a three. Oh, he's a He was a Michael Dickerson three ish guard, combo guard three two three two. If Palett Larson wasn't there, You mean, if Pelt Larson wouldn't he have been the three and they would have gotten
more of a true guard than than Ben Matheron. Ben Mathers is not a true guard to me, you know, but he had he was a two. He was a two in the lineup. He was a two. You wouldn't take Dylan Terry's point guard either, he's a he handled the ball, No, not not not over the big Oh he looked great. Not over Boswell you. But we're not talking them too, so you're still taking your two, your dear Love Boswell over Mathron. I would never I would never
do that. Okay, now that second to the point that you were trying to make at the beginning, You're gonna take a Boswell over Mathrine for the last shot. No, I'm taking Caleb Love over. Yeah, I think over over for the last shot. Yeah. No, not me, not even I think I think Love is a much better three point shooter. I think Love is better at creating a shot. But now can Matherine get get to the get to the basket in a you know, as a taller guy, in a more forceful, more physical, forceful way. Yes, but
I also think Caleb Love does a good job. Anybody gets Look, look, I'm not saying that overall that I think Caleb Love is a better player than Ben Mathms. Was the number seven pick in the NBA draft, and I don't see Caleb Love is that. You know, overall, Ben Mathern
is a better player and does those things. What I'm saying, if I need a last shot and I'm gonna put the ball in one guy's hand to get me the last shot, I think you have more options with Caleb Love than you have with Ben Mathrin and and I And I'm not taking I'm not taking a level over Mathron at any time, any place. And there's no right or answer. I think they're both in their own ways. I mean, they both want the ball at the end of the game. If you've
got one or the other, you're feeling pretty good. Yeah, yeah, you've got right. But if if you have to pick one or the other, I'm I'm picking Caleb Love because again, you know, if he has to, he'll make the twenty five twenty six footer. And I don't know, Ben Maths got that shot, and you know and and and you know got touch shot. He's got touch shot. We just wouldn't he was smart enough not to take it. Tom I heard Tommy talk about that today.
That'll be that was in the press conference. Uh you know again, I'm thinking, I'm still thinking there's yea and we saw that. No, there is. My answer is right and yours is wrong. You haven't I mean, we saw Ben in March. I was just gonna say, you better, you better take that one back. Think you've been right, You're right, Steve. You know, look again, as I said a second, if your options are Matherin or or Caleb Love, you'll like your choices.
You'll and you'll you'll, you'll run with either one. In fact, you've been searching for a shooter for forever, right right, right, So one thing this team, this program has been missing since Selem and Caleb's one of the better shooters that Arizona has had in a while. Now, he's still he's not Seleem. He's not he's not Steve Cerry, he's not one of those guys. He's not even I don't think he's even a damon stodamyer yet.
But he's still pretty damn good. And he's a guy that you know, I see the ball in his hands at the end of the game, and I'm like, okay with it? Now? Have I been okay with every shot he's taken at the end of the at the end of a game, or you know, or you know, at the end of a half. No, and neither is Tommy, you know, he said, he talked about you talk to him about that. But I like my chances with him because, like I said, you know, if if the three pointer
isn't there, he can go he can go buy you. He can hit the pull up jumper, he can go to the lane. He's very quick. He has a little floater. He's got the floater like, he's got all those options, and I like those. Yeah, yeah, that little yeah. You know, Ben Mathon is either gonna and I just you know, I think that Caleb love creates the three point and creates an open three point shot better than Ben did, just because he's quicker. He's smaller and
quicker. You can't. You can talk for the next two three hours. I know I'm not going to convince you. I'm just I'm convincing myself. Let me ask you something. Is Caleb Lovell pro is the an NBA PLO. I think he is. I think, but I think he's like more of a point guard type of player. He's gonna have to handle the ball point guard type. God, God help his teammates to get to that ball.
You don't have to learn well you know what. In fact, Tommy has told him, you don't get people involved, so maybe he's I think he's done a pretty good job of that this year, all things considered, considering the the reputation he came in with, I think I think he has, you know, and I think in that period of time that Kylin Boswall
was just not playing very well. I feel like, you know, he like he had to, he had to put it on himself to you know, put some points on the board and and uh and we have more of an impact like then when we saw the last few games that he you know, he was back more within what they do because Colin Boswall was playing so much better. Okay, that's cool, Okay, that's you know, anybody want to call again. We can always talk about this anytime. Five two,
four, one, six, seventy four forty. So we have whole house in the fourth of three now in about about ten minutes, ten minutes, and then we'll have uh, Tommy Tommy Prescott. And he was pretty good. He was pretty good. He was you know, and I thought there's some decent questions asked, uh, you know, we'll we'll, we'll get to all of that. But it's funny, you know. We had some reaction to how he handles press conferences. You know when we played the
last one. Yeah, yeah, you know some people use some people texted to you some texts and said he's a little snippy sometimes, right, No, he is. He well, he doesn't want to be there. He doesn't want to be there. He really think that, Yeah, he doesn't. He doesn't like he's rather be coaching than doing something. Well, I know that. But I think he understands though that it's a part of it. You can understand and know that he's trying to he's trying to get through
it quickly. Like he you know, you're asking a question, he doesn't let you finish the question because he wants to answer the question and move on to the next week. You have to catch a playing age, ADHD or anything. What. I'm not a doctor because he does. I mean, you know he again, he's you know, he's very you know, very quick. He's trying to got to move things along. Got to move things
along, Got to move things along. In Arizona Athletics, which coach that you guys have covered during their press conference has been the most attentive during that time. Do you think which question? I'm sorry, out of all the coaches in Arizona Athletics. Ever. Yeah, that you guys have covered which one has been the most attentive at their pressers? Mike and Andrea? And that makes sense, that makes sense. Yeah, I've only done football and
basketball coaches, so oh no baseball Kendall. I covered Jerry Kendall, who was but he was too didn't want to be there. Yeah, Kendria because he's thoughtful, he's a people person. Yeah, you know, I mean Dick Tomy because he had told me of all the coaches, all the coaches going to even what I see of coaches today, I feel like I had the most respect for the job journalists had to do. Yeah, don't you
think he understood how hard it was? He also there were times when he also tried to help you out in terms of what he's going through, to help you understand you know. Yeah, that's true. You know, certain questions you asked, you know, he advised us sometimes and so but you know, Dick was kind of all around pretty good guy. You know. Anyway, So, okay, what times you want to go to We got to get a minute. We got a minute, okay, yeah, yeah,
we're gonna be bringing in Todd. So he's fun. He's always fun. We got to give him, you know, given some of its time because again another PEMA College coach doing an incredible job over there. Yeah, I'm not sure you know David Kellyan and he's a good friend of the worst. He's I don't think he's going on today. I think he's not going on for the next couple of days, today and tomorrow. So if you if you're kind of a first time listener presser, yeah, but he but
he said on the pressure that he's going to be out till Saturday. Oh the game. So if you're a new time person listening to us, welcome. Yeah, we we glad to have you. Maybe you'll enjoy our banter and bs. But we have some great guests. We'll have one now in about five minutes, right, so stick around for Todd hold House at basketball had women's basketball coach at the national rank PEMA College. We'll be right back. you wake up the next morning and get back to work. All right, we'll tell us a little bit about about this, this big win over Mesa on last night, sixteen nine sixty two. What you know it? Why is it big? Explain to us, Well, it's big just in terms of the rivalry over the years has always been back and forth, and Mace is always really good and they're currently ranked number four in the country and we
were ranked fourteenth. Our schedule this year is a little bit different because it's a little bit unbalanced in terms of we play everybody in our league, but we played the d Ones. The d One juco is only one time a year, and now we play the D twos three times a year. So we actually played two games at Mace already and we lost one of those by one and one of those by four, So we knew we were close, and so you wanted to have a little momentum maybe heading into the playoff season.
And so that's why last nights was probably just big in terms of confidence and the ladies being able to believe in themselves that we can beat them. Okay, you used the word that we argue about every day, Jay and I about momentum, but we won't go there. We want to respect your respect your opinion. Are your pro momentum or anti momentum? I don't believe in it, and I know a lot of people are, But to me, it's it's every game is a season. Last night very well, next
game you have to do the same thing. It's and and last night's game has nothing to do with this game, although you know what I'm saying. It's every game is the season. Because you play against some team you played, I call them runs. You're on a good run. Tell ye, we are on a good run. I would agree, And maybe not so much momentum as much as it is confidence big and we've talked, we've had that one being replaced with momentum, and I totally agree. And they're two
different words. They're two different they are Okay, no, let's not go there anymore because okay, thanks, thanks for being involved in our family fight over here. Yeah, but I agree with you, coach. I agree with your coach, bros. Yes, yes, you've been doing this a long time. I mean you must, it must bring joy to you because you probably keeps you young too. Yeah. I love I love what I
do. And you know, it's funny because someone I ran into someone today who is a friend of one of our former players from like ten years ago, and she said something about, coach, you just inspire all these all these kids to be great in life. And I'm like, you know, what people don't realize is that kids inspire me too, because he gives me a purpose every day to get up and do my best for them because I
don't want to let them down. So it kind of goes both ways in terms of we may help them in life, but at the same time, they're helping us as well. I mean, if you ask Ross, it's the same thing. Why does he still coach because he loves it and loves being around kids and it keeps you young, you know, So you have,
as you say, you have been doing this a while. Does your team, I don't want to say makeup, but sort of it's identity changed from year to year based on you know, who you've got or is it kind of the same, and you recruit to that and you try to keep things sort of you know, stable or you know, you know what I'm trying to get at. I mean, are you kind of the same year or you think you're hitting on something that is probably individual to every coach.
But I would say that we recruit a certain type of kid because I'm kind of a blue collar guy and you know, I was raised on farm country and working in the fields and doing all that kind of so I just only know how to work. So I enjoy being around people and kids that aren't afraid to just work hard every day and understand that you don't get the instant credit gratification that a lot of kids want nowadays. But come the end of February and March, if you just stay at it, you're going to be
playing some really good basketball. And I feel like that's what we're doing right now. So let me ask you to go along with that momentum run type of thing, but not really, how are you playing in your first part of the of the year. What was the situation? Well, I think when I talk to you guys in the fall, we have a group of twelve freshmen, and our freshmen are really talented. But the biggest thing is teaching freshmen. You know, you got twelve freshmen from all over different parts
of the country or this part of it, you know, Arizona. Getting them to work together and figure out how we work as a team and how we operate defensively as a team. And once they start figuring those things out, that's when you get kind of these runs that you can go on where even when we're traveling, we've played good defense. And so we always say that defense travels. You may not always have a great shooting night, but
you can always play defense and you can always rebound. And so I think we're at that point where the freshman has kind of learned the expectations and then that's why it's kind of click in the way it is. Yeah, and that's ever coach says this. You want to be playing your best basketball over this time of year. But you know, who's to say you're gonna be played basketball this well at this time of year. You just hope that they improved and that's what's right. So, Todd, I was checking your resume
when we were agatting ready to get you on. But you've coached at all three levels of high school. You're an assistant coach at the Jove, and now you're at Pima. What are some of the aside from the talent level, right, but what are the similarities and differences in the way players are the way they approach the game at the three levels? You were at Floyd Wells, then I said, it's an assistant at the Jove and then PEMA, So what you know, what, what can you tell all of coach
who's doing that well? I think that the easiest way to explain that is in high school, you hope to have enough kids to feel the team, and within that, you hope you have three or four good players, because in high school that's what you really need is if you have maybe even two to three good players, you can be a really good team. And then you know, I'll skip to the u of A obviously like you said,
that's a lot of talent. Like d one, kids are just talented, and it's a matter of getting all the talent to kind of mesh together. And then at the junior college level, kind of in between, you kind of get a mix of kids who maybe haven't hit their prime yet or kids who you know, maybe messed up academically or didn't get seen the way you know they maybe could have or the exposure that they could have had, and
so you kind of get the kind of the influx of both. And so I really enjoy the junior college level because of that, because you're not dealing with the high school stuff, which I don't have to do with parents, and I just want kids to be focused on being young adults and how we're going to get better, and I don't deal with a lot of the egos that you now have with like the transfer portal and money and stuff like that. I just feel like junior college is probably a little more pure in that
sense, And I could be deluded home because I love it. But at the same time, we get kids that are hungry to prove themselves and if they just put in a little work with our reputation and stuff, they're going to be able to move on to a four year university like they've always dreamed about doing. I don't think we've asked you this since you come on this year, but how has the how has the transfer portal helped to hurt you at the next level because it seems like, and I asked Peabody this too.
You know, teams are kind of swapping players at that higher level. Does that take away from the girls that you're teaching now or coaching now? I would agree that it does. In terms of a lot of schools now, like in the past, we could get kids to Division two pretty easily Anaia of course, but they can't offer as much money usually. But now with the portal, a lot of those D two schools are waiting to see what D one kids didn't get what they thought they would, and they'll fall
back to a D two. So now at a D two level, you're getting D one athletes that maybe thought they were better than they were but didn't get anything. So now they're going they're filtering back into the D two's and I feel like that kind of takes away opportunities from our JUCO kids. Is
it impact you? Maybe it's too early to tell, right, if it's impacting you know, who's coming to play junior college at athletics, or if they're instead of doing that, they're looking at Anaia School or something like that. I think the trickle down effect would be that I think we get better high school kids now because the portal has taken away a lot of opportunities for high school seniors that would have normally gone on and now the D one's kind
of swap players. Like you said, so the high school kids that had the potential go D one maybe don't get the opportunity they thought, so you go becomes a more viable route for them, and so we occasionally sneak into you know, maybe we get a D one type of kid that just didn't get the looks or get the offer that they wanted, so it can benefit us as well. Yeah, Okay, I was gonna ask you a dumb question because I know you probably want to answer it, but because every question
I asked is dumb. But you know, we've been talking about how how far des everyone have to go to be to be worthwhile and not disappointing right for you, And I'm asking the wrong guy, cause you're the coach. Nothing less than the championship is going to satisfy you. But you want success. I mean, how far can you go realistically and far? I know
it's a tough question to ask. It's I feel like getting to Nationals every year is the is the destination because once you get to Nationals, then you're kind of playing with house money in terms of just being healthy, getting a few breaks. You can make a good run. But I think the crowning jewel for us is to qualify the Nationals so that we can get a chance to show what we're made of of your X amount of years there, how many times you've done that? You've done that a few times? Yeah,
we've we've gone eight times. Okay, so we either of us are matesay usually, but this year they've actually at the Juico level. Used to be the sixteen region winners would go, but now it's the sixteen region winners plus four at large bids. So having a good resume may benefit us as well this year in case you were to get tripped up in the region tournament. Okay, all right, we're talking to Todd hold House, the head women's
basketball coach at Pima. Todd tell us a little about your team. You know who you know, you're you're pretty well into it, so you're established just to roles and things like that. Who you know, if somebody comes out to watch you guys play, who are they looking for? Well, I think the thing that they'll notice the most is we play fast and we play really good defense. And I think that that's probably what we do best this year. And it takes takes work and time and patience to teach them
how we want them to play. But if you look at UH conference standings, we're the number one team in terms of field goal opponent field goal percentage. And I take a lot of pride in that because if you can make people struggle every night from the field, no matter what you're doing offensively, you're always going to be in a fight. Yeah, all right, we've got stuff coming up. You've got you got the weekend off. But uh,
you know, how do you how do you? Uh, I don't know how you set yourself up for you know, for a big finish. Well, I think we're in a good spot. We'll get a couple of days off, uh to just kind of like I said, heel up and get fresh, and then we have five more regular season games and then it's right in the playoffs. So when we come back, we got a two
home games right away, so that should be able to build momentum. And then we have to go on the road to Scottsdale, which will be tough, and so just building a little bit of momentum so that that first week in March we're feeling good, we can get in the playoffs and make a run. Yeah yeah, yeah, but you can still use the one. So coach, let me ask you this is maybe a funny question, but you've had you've had coach you Roz there for a long time now, and
he loves the game. He's a great mentor to people, not just just in basketball. What's what's his significance with you and what do you lean on him for. I think that he's just he's just experienced, like he's been through it all. He's been to the top of the mountain and he's had to fight his way back up and doing those things. And I just think his ability to relate to kids at his age is you know, something that I've always admired in terms of he's even as I get older, he's significantly
older than I am. And so just his ability to relate at the age of seventy eight to twenty year old is pretty amazing to watch every day. And they love him. I've told you guys that in the past it he's tough on him, but by the end of the year they realize that it's all about love and one and the best for the kid. Yeah. I feel the same way with Jay. He's significantly older than me. He just doesn't give you the wisdom. You set him up, God, you set
him up. He really did. That was a shot was it just got teed up nicely for him? So thanks Todd always, Thank you very much. Good luck the rest of the way. If you get to the Nationals again, we hope to have you on. Yeah, let's do it, all right. I appreciate you guys. Thanks, thanks, thank you for them bump but it just got kicked right, thank you. All right,

De Bravera and Jake and Salez they have their eye on the ball on Tucson Sports. They yet Fox Sports fourteen fifty streaming live. I mean I heard radio WAF Hey, welcome back to our in the ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jay. We have sid with
us as well. Fifteen minutes. You're going to give us a call five two oh four one six seventy four forty if you're new to the Stuff program and give us a call. See what you see? What you want to say here? What you think? Yeah? Yeah, okay, local. We talk about a lot of local stuff we do and sprinkle stuff. You know what, what question do you get asked the most about doing the show? Do you think? Oh? God, I don't know. That's a
good question. I don't know. I have to think about it. You asked me for a reason, so well, just I get asked, you know, how much do you prepare? Oh? Yeah, that's a that's a question, and they can tell well, it's fine because I explained to them. I explain to people, I said, we don't do a lot to prepare. You know, we if we prepare in visually to keep an eye on, you know, things that are going on right use of the day, all that kind of stuff, so that we have topics to talk
about, and we do, and we have some every day. We you know, we've never been short on stuff to talk about. You know, we never are. But you know, I explained, Look, we get in there, you know, we we talk, we chat, and we don't a lot of times we're mostly just off the cuff. Yeah, it's not I don't want to call it ad libbing. But what we do is, you know, we don't I don't want to know what you're thinking.
You do, you don't know what I'm thinking, So that when we it's when we're talking about stuff like you didn't know I was going to ask you this question. No, no, no, I definitely didn't. The one question the toughest part of this job is obvious, what do you think it is? What do you think I'm thinking? Getting here? Get over here
from the east side, We get here without fall asleep. By the way, getting guests, you know, getting the guess that we get because many times they're not available the night before or day before, and we do it the day and you know, yeah, well we like to, as we say, just in keeping with the show, we like to talk about the things that are going on today. So you can sometimes just got to get up in the morning and see what's happening to me side're going to have on
the show. Now, we do things ahead of time. Right, We've got a SU coming in for a basketball game on Saturday, so we've lined up Kyle Dodd, the ASU radio play color analysts, to be on the show tomorrow so we can talk about a SU. Jake Fisher comes on on a regular basis. He's a sponsor, and we you know, Jake's former football player, and we get to talk to him about the experience of being a player in all these different scenarios that things might have come up during the
course of a week. You know, we hadn't talked to Todd hold House in a while. They had a huge game last night. We get up to day and say Todd would be a good guy to come on the show. Right, Sometimes they're available, sometimes they're not right right, And that's the whole thing. When can they talk either practice or no practice at that time? And a lot of guys are real busy. I mean, we've
talked to Kerr. We were supposed to have him on soon at any time, maybe during the break and whatever, and we were connected to the people, so you know, but that's I think that's that's the question I obviously get asked. Let me take this call. Hi, you're on the air and eye on the ball. This is Gabe. How are you guys doing. I'm doing pretty good. Hey. Can we talk about yesterday with what happened at what happened Kansas City with the mass shooting yesterday? Yeah, sure,
go ahead, what do you Yeah? I would love to hear your no cussing. I won't trust me on that. So with these mass shootings, let me just be let me just be honest. Mass shootings is up in America. Are just are just as Americans as are are as American as
apple pie and and baseball. So that's why God just ay. So the reason why we don't have any any any issue any fixing this problem is because the gun lobby a corrupt politicians both mostly on the on the mostly on the Republican Party and some on the Democratic Party, and with their legalized bribes.
So that's why we can't get any common sense gun, any any common sense gun, any common sense gun legislation get get passed because the gun lobby, n r A and every scene like the the gun lobby and and ANII basically bribes our politicians, mostly on the mostly on the Republican side, some on
the Democratic side. And so this issue is not gonna get solved. And I'm probably and we're gonna pre and we're probably gonna hear another mass shooting in a couple of months, maybe maybe a few weeks, how about maybe way you guys think we're probably gone the college probably probably after the u A or who knows. We can't we check in the United States. Yeah, I have my disagree with what I have to say, but we're gonna solve this
issue a game. You know, you're you're preaching to the choir. I think over here we I ranted a little bit about it yesterday when this thing happened. Yeah, and uh, you know, I I don't know what I know what the answer is, but it's not an answer that's gonna be I think a lot of us know what the answer is, but it's not an answer that is going to please certain aspects of our society. And we're
stuck with this right now. That's what I think. I didn't I didn't I didn't hear what you have to say because I witched to not speaker just saying that. I'm just saying that we are. I think everybody recognizes what the problem is and what the solution is, but we're just not. Uh, we're we can't get this country on the same page to think to do anything, and unfortunately that we're stuck. And that's where we are. Yeah, we are. We are stuck on an endless loop of violence. Thought
after a mass shooting happens, saut and prayers, sat and players. Okay, what is your saust and prayers gonna do? Oh yeah right, absolutely nothing, So dove your thoughts and prayers up your sugar, honey. I see all right, Gabe. I can tell you're frustrated. So thanks, thanks for your opinion. We value it. We appreciate your colling. Okay, down, and that's how we end the call. Yes, I don't even know where my shooter. Hut, honey, I met. Yeah,
I was really scared there for a second. Yeah, okay, very serious conversation, very serious topic gave. We appreciate the call, We appreciate the opinion. Again, I think you're preaching to the choir in this room and that we're just kind of stuck where we are right now. You know, incredibly unfortunate situation. Uh. You know, you've got names and stuff coming out. The person that was killed was a DJ who was just working there, forty someone with kids, and the whole bit. If you've been on
social media, you've seen video of this thing happening. You've seen video of the of the shooters getting caught, the size of the weapon that that that they had, it's just unbelievable stuff. I was listening to this morning and this is a kind of off topic, but on topic. Uh, coming in again today and ninety seven Arizona wins the national title. What were you you were? You were at the event. So we come home to the fourth and fourth avenue being torch exactly obviously, no no rhyme or reason.
People being foolish and doing this stuff. That camp it's you can be prevented, but you know it's not can't it can't be prevented. Well, yeah, we'll see, we'll see. And that's the thing you know that, Uh I watched the press conference out by the by the I guess it was the police chief in Kansas City saying we had hundreds of officers here, heavily armed on rooftops all over the place, and yet this happened. Ye and
and and you know the thing that you and I talked about yesterday. And then you say you're not gonna you know, you're not going to stop all of these things from happening no matter what you do. But I think you can stop some of them. And and this is an example. Well, let me tell you, here's the piercer percentage. A million people downtown at that event. Two people, three people may be involved in this. What's the percentage of that? And just don't even takes one person that you know,
that plan something to do that. My point on this was these these were two teenagers with assault rifles. Okay, if assault rifles were illegal in the United States, maybe there's a chance they don't get their hands on these assault rifles, right, and do what they did? Now, do they get their hands on some other gun. Yeah, probably. But the point being, though you're never gonna stop all of these is people are held bent on killing people. They're gonna kill people. Making some of this you can
stop. I think of the Sandy Hook shooter. You know that the kid his mom bought him a damn assault rifle. What if she hadn't bought him an assault rifle? What if he didn't have that rifle? Could we have prevented that one? That one? They're just making it there with with not addressing it, they're making any making it easier. Right, Let's make it harder. Instead of making it easier, Let's make it harder. And and unfortunately there's a segment of our of our uh political people in power who think
the answer is to make it easier to get more people with guns. Well, how many more people with guns would they have needed yesterday to keep that from happening. There weren't enough. There wouldn't have been enough. You's so, let's okay, I've ever ended politics. We tried. It's not that we try not to do that on the show. But gay brought it up. Sure, okay, let's stop. Let's okay, right, move on? What else? Talk to Todd. Yeah, yeah, I was gonna
say, you want you want to do the talk about the runders. Yeah, yeah, we got five minutes. Okay, So the over unders uh came out on bet online. Uh. One of the offshore bucks over underwin totals for football next year. Have you seen it? Have you seen it? Where do you think Arizona's landed seven point eight point five? Wow? Ding? Ding? Ding? Seven and a half was too low? And eight five five? Because they have to win nine right and a half and
a half. Uh. Now, they're not the top win in the conference. Utah and Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Kansas State, Utah and Kansas State came in at nine and a half. Wow. Wow, So they're not the they're not even the second favorite to win the crime. Right, They've got Kansas State, who Arizona will play in, not in a non conference game, because it's gonna be well, Arizona's got you Kansas State and Utah back to back. Wow, that's early early pressure. We're gonna well
early pressure, but an early sign. Uh. Who they you know, how good are they going to be? Kansas Kansas States is here here there, Kansas State is there. Both both on the Road both on the Kansas State, and I think there's a bye after Kansas State, though I believe. I think so. I think so. I believe there's like the twenty ninth is twenty Yeah, I'm looking that up right now because I believe that is. Yeah, that's a that's a that's a pretty good early schedule right
away. Yeah, we're gonna go any something like that, and then then Kansas State and the yeah they well, Kansas State is a Friday night game, and then there's and then oh no, it's oh it's it's Friday or Saturday. It's either or. But you got New Mexico and au Kansas State, at Kansas State and then at Utah two weeks later. Okay, so we're gonna have an early indication of who they are. I didn't think that
Kansas State would be that well. I don't know, but that's hard for me to believe they're pretty good because we thought, you know, Utah, obviously, Arizona's gonna be what it has and uh, it's gonna be fun. It's gonna be fun. And there's there's four teams at eight and a half. Arizona is one of them four teams that are at eight and a half wins. You got Kansas Kansas, Kansas is at eight and a half. Here's another Texas Tech at eight and a half. And Arizona plays Texas
Tech after Utah. So now there's there's three games in a row. Well, this one was surprised you. Central Florida was at eight and a half. Hey, the eight and a half might be tough to get to. Yeah, yeah, you can't just assume that they're just gonna go in there and win. And then you've got you got some teams at seven and a half. You got Iowa State seven and a half, TCU at seven and a half, Oklahoma State at seven and a half. What do you think,
I know who somebody's gotta lose? Right, Well, you got their non conference games, you know, okay Aarzone and Arizona and Kansas State in a non conference game. That's kind of an outlier. You know, some of these other teams have three winnable non conference four and a half. Steve Man, you, well, the other teams are so good. I mean they got to win their conference game. Here's a surprise, because I thought they were better. B Yu was in at four and a half. Wow,
yeah, yeah, wow. So anyway, so that's that's what the Big twelve looks like. Well, we run out of time here before we get to breaking news, but they've got them out also for the Big ten and well all the all the major comp Washington, Washington is at six seven and a half, seven and a half. In the USC is that seven and a half? Okay, u c l A is that four and a half? Four and a half? And let me let me make sure that no. Five and a half. UCLA is at five and a half.
Oregon is that nine and a half? So they're up there. I have a question for you on the other side ten and a half. I'm sorry, wow, Okay, I'll bring some questions up if I can remember on the other side. All right, let's uh, let's go, ready to take our break breaking news here at the top of the are we promise will stop talking about guns, because we're not that. We don't want to be that guy. But I'm still pissed off. But what can I tell you?
All right, stick around breaking news. We're gonna play the full Tommy Lloyd press conference. We have the recording of it now and so that'll be coming up in the in the four fifteen segment, or we usually have a guest, but we'll just play it in full and you get to hear everything Tommy had to say about getting ready for a You on Saturday. So stick around for all of that and we will be right back
