This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez sound Fox Sports fourteen fifty powered by Nova Insurance Services and Sure Your Most Prized Possessions kat z R two sad at iHeartRadio Station Goo. Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to I on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, He's Jacins. OUIs got our boy eat in today? It's Thursday afternoon, our last show of the week. Right, you have your picks? Did
you do your picks? You all? I haven't done. I mean I've been you know, I've got some things that I've got on my mind, but I haven't actually sat down and made them. But they'll be done by by the last segment when we do our fat five Riddy picks. Okay, okay, So I'm a ready big game. I spaced Tommy Lloyd's press conference. I did listen to most of it, and then they also had Keyshaw Johnson out there at China. How are they going to defend Edie? Anything
enlightening from the press conference? I missed it all together, haven't it? No? Just Tommy's kind of been more surly or either more surdly or more comfortable with the guys. Yeah, because he you know, teas him. It's his second favorite, the worst day, you know, second favorite day. First being he doesn't want to be there, you know, he doesn't want to be there. Uh, spend him at fifteen minutes, you know, just kind of straight to the point how you can defend him ed And
he's good, he says, everyone's good, right every day. Everyone's a good player. So we'll see what happens. You know, fouls will be a problem or an issue. It's gonna be on the road. Yeah. Did you realize that tomorrow they also have an Indianapolis Colts game at the same time. Well, well, the game is being played and they're just next to each other the facility. Okay, so so it's gonna be a lot of traffic, a lot of people at both places. So have you ever
been to the new Football football? Yeah, because you know, last time I was there it was the right arc. Yeah. Yeah, no, we had been there a couple of times. We'll see what happens. I mean, it should be a fun game. I hope to see. I'm not gonna write about it because I'm to be on the road. Javier will do it. I hope I get to see it. Well, it's certainly getting a lot of attention that you know, everybody's talking about it one versus three. You know, Okay, a lot of is Arizona really this team?
You know, because everybody loves Purdue. You know, they're they're a Big ten team. They've had Zach Ety for like eight years, and so you know that's kind of people leaning towards produce should win this game. I still haven't seen a spread because yeah, because what because it's Purdue and because it's it's like, you know, Arizona's still in terms of with Tommy Lloyd,
Arizona's still kind of new on it. If you were a guy at Montana, Jay, if you guys lived in Montana and Idaho maybe got the news, maybe you didn't get the news, and you had both team's resume over the last two or three years, who would you pick? I think
I picked Purdue. And guess what, they're more flawed than Arizona. While they had they lost as the one there you go, and they didn't do well the year before with the same play and when you're built around one guy the way they are, and we'll ask we're gonna have Mike Carmen in from the Lafayette Journaling Carrier who covers Purdue. You know, are they built around one guy? If you if you if you neutralize Zach Edy, you know, do you win the game? And have and have teams done that?
Last night? H Northwestern got beat, Northwestern got beat and just a few days ago gets to Northwestern beat and and nobody big beat Northwestern. It was just some team. So so you know, and and look and and you know, Arizona's kind of like that last year. If you could stop a Zulus, you could beat them. And there were games when Zulas just wasn't there and guess when it happened to be the lost happened to be Princeton. Yeah, so uh you know, uh, we'll ask Mike Carmen, you
know, is that how is that how you beat them? And as has anybody been able to do that? I I don't. I didn't see the Northwestern game, so I didn't see how Northwestern won that game. But we do know that, you know, it's kind of unexpected, kind of disappointing, because this would be a cool, cool to be a one versus do one versus three second Sigama Houston being number two, right, So we'll see what happens. I hope to see what happens. It should be fun.
It's December soth he said, December sixteenth. Well, and you know what, and in a way that makes these games more fun because there's not a lot of pressure on these games, you know, like like uh Tommy said before the Duke No, before the Wisconsin game, he said, look, we can lose on Saturday and we can still have a great season. Oh sure, you know, you know they yeah, they can lose tomorrow and they can still you know, uh, you know, have a you have
a really good year. So they're they are coming off off of a win over Alabama. Who are is on the faces uh next week? But they did lose that game to uh to Northwestern in overtime. If you look at the odds to it at all, I think Arizona is one of the favorites now, if not the favorite. Ten to one down from eighteen should have gotten I know, I know, but tender ones is still not bad.
Did you see a tweet yesterday which I thought was fine, kind of interesting on the week's Week six of the schedule, and historically since two thousand and three, two thousand and four in the top twelve. One of those top twelve teams is gonna win the tournament. Oh really, it's It's like since two thousand and three to two thousand and four, that team has one of
those teams has won the tournament. Well, because the the you know, they've played enough games for you have an idea of who they are, right, So that's how they get ranked. That makes sense, makes a lot of sense. Actually, no other no other week has been as accurate as this week six, week six, and this is week six, this is week six. Arizona's in the ranking. Yeah so, and they have and
they're number one. Doesn't guarantee you gonna win. But those Twitter teams, well, by this time, you should have established whether or not you're a really good team, right in. Arizona has established that. Regardless of what happens Saturday, they established it. They're really good. You know, even when I saw that yesterday and I saw the odds, I'm taking ten to one, and that's still not bad. You put a hundred bucks again, a thousand bucks on a team that you cover. That's the issue. That's
the one issue. But but I haven't liked an Arizona team this much since twenty fourteen. Probably, Yeah, in all honesty, you know, I don't remember them coming out of the box. I mean, they kept winning games, You've got holy crap, what are they fourteen? But I remember actually start thinking, you know, before they got played, they're that good. I can't remember. I can't remember, but I know that everybody in this city thought that they'd win the title because until Brandon Ashley got hurt,
you know, they were number one, undefeated. He got hurt and then things went to hell. But even then you still have to be lucky and good too in the title. But they got like twenty and twenty yeah, twenty three something like that. Like that, they they got into the twenties. Yeah, without losing a game, right, that was crazy. Yeah, there's another team that's ten to one, uh Houston, no, Kansas, no, Purdue prey, Yeah, yes, you saw you see it.
I'm looking at it right now. Yeah, it's Parzona and Purdue at ten to one, Kansas twelve, and it's eleven eleven. Okay, Yukon thirteen, Marquette fourteen, Houston sixties, Houston, Kentucky at sixteen. Yeah, I would go with Houston as well. I would, you know, I think Colvin is probably due at some point. But it's it's interesting.
We know what we know and that's Arizona basketball. Next Saturday, we'll finally see how good Florida Atlantic is. Right, last year we didn't see him, but once it's probably in the final four, right, and who thought they would show up? That was going to happen, right, But who thought Sandy Can State was gonna happen? Sure? Sure, that's how fluid college basketball is exactly exactly. But yeah, so you know, it's uh, there's almost got its name out there, and this is is gonna be
a fun game and if you have peacock you get to watch it. Yeah, people still complaining, I mean it is what it is. This been on the docket forever. You know, Look, we got to get with the streaming thing. It's becoming more and more of a thing. If how can I say this, I get pans yelling at me or tugging down to me or whatever they want to do, because I get on them. They've done this for a while. But if they didn't have anything to complain about,
they wouldn't be Arizona fans you're right. What can I say? Come on, this is simple, ye buy it. It's twenty bucks. Twenty bucks, I think so twenty bucks for a month. Buy it for a month, Get on it. It's like a movie. Go watch some dateline on it? Right, go is I going to the movie on a Friday night? It's gonna cost you cheaper to buy the twenty books Peacock. But basketball should be free, Steve, sports should be free. Yeah. You know, people are complaining that don't don't ask me. I know this.
I just came across on social media. Cann't follow. But you know, Taylor Swift made a movie a concert yeah, yea yeah, yeah right, and it's that it's at the theater. So people think you're gonna pay the eleven dollars whatever theater price to see this movie. For the concert that was, you know, the tickets were five hundred bucks. So tell me where are you going to bucks twenty bucks to go watch this movie? And people were pissed. They said, we should be the same as going to see
any other movie. Guess what, if you want to do it, you have to pay it, yeah, or don't do it? Yeah exactly, But they were pissed. Of course there you have got something. There has to be something to be pissed about it, you know. But yeah, you're right, people, it's always something. So I went into a movie with somebody about three months ago and we went to go see some regular movie and uh, we sat there and there was set in the middle, you
know where you pick your seats. Said, this is so stupid. We sat in the middle, and uh, we sat in the middle and started filling and there was a young crowd. There was a young crowd for like an al rated mystery or something like that, and it got young in it. And then like Billie Eilish shirt one of those one of those up and comer young girls, was that she had a concert like the yew, wont
the hell did we get this theater? The theater were We looked at each other about a half hour, and it says, I'm going to be embarrassed if I leave this place, but I'm going to be embrassed if I stayed. That's kind of how I felt when I went to a Backstreet Boys content. So we got up you know kind of you know guy and sauntered off and says, you guys told us to go to the wrong place. Can
we get new tickets by myself? So we got new tickets. But it was like one of those concerts and these kids are it's packed with these kids that you look creepy, and I felt a little creepy. I says, I must be the oldest dude in this place. Billy. Yeah, because she's hot. Who the hell? Who the hell was she could be my daughter? But damn, she's hot. No, she was like a grungey girl. She she's got the colored hair. Yeah, I didn't know what
she's not enough in covert. She's been around for I was. We looked at it. Who is this girl? She won a bunch of Emmys like two or three years ago, and I'm thinking, I think this is going to be another trailer. No, it was not the trailer it was. I couldn't name a single song of her. I know of her, but I have the advantage of having a twenty two year old daughter who fills me in on all this. Yeah, and don't change the chance I needed. I need to say, I need to make a note of it. Graduating

But yeah, we'rein't helping her with her now you won't, but now I won't. Right, But she actually, you know, until she gets a job because her her lease runs out the end of the end of the year. But you know, she's working on the job, has some prospects. Oh,
this is the one that's schraeduling tonight. Yeah, you already have another one too. Yeah, she's in the house too. Oh you bits back back to the nest. Maybe the band is back together. What's for dinner? So but my my daughter, Rachel, you're a Hispanic man. I'm sure Gabby's loving it. We love it. Oh he does bad. Can get the free holies and all that stuff for burrito night. We have Mike Carmon from the Gooldenblack dot com service in lef Hit covering right. Hey, Mike, Mike, I said, glad to
have you on the show. We want to get some insight on the big game on Saturday from Purdue's end, just how good they are and things like that. How big of a game is it out there over here? Obviously it's a huge game. Yeah, it's a big game for Purdue. They've been ranked number one this year and now they get to play the number one team and they haven't done that in a while, So it's a big game from that standpoint. Actually, the last time they played in they had a
winn. One team was against their two thousands. Oh from producing point, I don't know. It's a big game, a lot of buzz. There'll be a spell out and you're breaking up. You're breaking up a bit, Mike, So I don't know if you can move to a place that you'll break up a little bit less. So just tell us about what you know, what you've seen. Right, they've only lost the one game to Northwestern. You know, who are they? I guess is the is the way
to ask it? You know, if you're if you're trying to describe this team, who are they? Well, there's Zach keaty and he four he's the raiding national player of the year. Right, A lot of a lot of things they do offensively and defensively go through him, as they should. But you know they've got a more experienced back court this year with the two guys at refreshman last year. Now they're sophomore's Braden Smith and Fletcher Lawyer Lawyer.
Uh. They they've improved. But yeah, everything, you know a lot of things what they do goes through Zach uh and you know they're they're very good defensively, Uh, they're one of the better rebounding teams in the country, So I mean they've got a lot of depth. They've added a transfer from Southern Illinois, Lance Jones, which gives them a little bit more quickness and athletic ability and ball handling that they lack last year. So they've
added to their team. I think they're better than what they were last year. But you know, it's a it's it's mid decem a lot of improvement up to go. You know, we'll see how this all plays out. Have the teams throughout the last couple of years tried to stop the big guy and then dealt with the other guys or how they try to defend him. They've tried to get the ball out of his hands as much as they can. You can't really because there's not a lot of seven four guys out there
that new places. So they tried the hands by a double team and having him part of the piper. Purdue does lean a lot on the three point shot, and a lot of teams have just taken the gamble that once the ball gets out of the post, that Purdue is not going to hit a high percentage of threes. That happened last year in the NCAA tournament against up to you. It's happened, you know, it's it happened a lot last year. It's happened a little bit this year. But that's kind of how
teams play, Perdue. They would rather take their chances with produce shooting threes as opposed to stubbing it into Zach heaty the time. But when you have a guy like like eighty seven foot four, big guy too, you know, not a not a chet holmesbring kind of guy. Right, the assumption is that they're that they're very physical inside. It is that? Is that a correct characterization of of how they play? You know, it's particularly in
the pain. Yeah, Zach is very physical when you're setting four three hundred pounds, you walk on the floor and you but they're four very Mason Gill into some degree. Uh, the first are very physical inside. And I say their wings or are physical as well. And Lance Jones and Morton h six seven center out of the parimeter. Uh, they bring they bring a level of scality which they have to. Then, because you're bringing up again, I think one of the things that Arizona brings is it's uh it's athletic,
it's fast. It has two big guys with with Bollow and Crebus, So you know there's a lot of fouls to give if that's the case. Has Ey been infel trouble at all? No, he doesn't pick up a lot of fun. He just doesn't. He's gone most here he doesn't. So you've got to really get his legs. You've got to get into kind of his middle area to force him to to foul. But he did.
He's very very disciplined. He you know, he can naturally block shots, but he's very disciplined as far as not fouling his concern and that that kind of goes along with produced team. They don't file a whole lot. Yeah, you know, I think people were surprised right that he came back for this year. You know what, what what's the thought on you know,
his his his strategy for for doing that. You know it was because of the way last year ended, or did he just feel like he had a lot more work to do to get to get to where he wanted to get? Well? I think I think something was that he the way ended left the bad taste in his mouth and everybody else's. But you know, he's not he's not an NBA player right now because that's not how the NBA right
you know. But he's holding onto the dream. He feels like if he can do some different things this year and improved in some areas, maybe there's a team out there. It only takes one a team that will look at him and want to maybe you know, use him in a rotational basis or whatever. No, he's you know, he's a he's a nineteen eighties kind of player in a way where he plays with us back to the basket where
everybody else in the NBA is facing the basket. Yeah, but you know, it's a it's a bit of a long shot for him to eventually make it in that league. But I think he's got tremendous opportunities to play professional basketball throughout the world if he wants to do it, and I think you'll have I think you'll have that opportunity, and I think you'll flourish in those situations. So, Mike, I'm assuming you've been covering college basketball for a
long time, so you know this very well. There's few teams that know about first round losses other than Arizona because because they've gone through a few of them over the years. How has Painter survived, not survived, handled that good good word, Jay handled probably the negativity out in your area. Ye How he's handled it really well. I mean he's been honest about it.
He's taken responsibility for it. You know, he points out the flaws of what happened and why they happen, and it's up to him and his staff to fix that. They're they're going through a period right now where they're losing. You know, they lose to fd FDU of sixteen seed. The year before, they lost to Saint Peter's a fifteen seed in the sweet sixteen.
Before that, they lost to North Texas UH in the first round. So they're in this trend of battling probably quicker faller teams that give them give them a lot of problems with pruss ball handling thing. And but I do they've gone out. I had to fix that area with the addition out with Lance Jones from Southern Ilamois and just the maturity and growth of their two freshman guards from a year ago with Braden Smith and Fletcher Lawyers. So you know,
he's taken the criticism, he's taken heat. But the only thing you can do is get back and try to do it again. I know he talked to Tony Bennett in the off season about what happened to Virginia a few years ago. Uh, and from the exact situation. And you know, we'll see if they can take you know, take advantage of that and and push through and you know, try to make a run this year. So you mentioned we obviously you know, talking about Zach dy and the impact he'll have
tomorrow and that things go through him. But tell us you know who, you know, who are the Arizona fans gonna notice, uh, you know when they see this game on on Saturday that you know, you know, an impact guy, a guy who can have a huge effect on the game. Well point guard. He's a he had last Alabama. Him and Zach worked really well. They can roll. But Brayden has really improved his shot. He's more aggressive on offense. You can get into the free throw line
area and get those jobs. He can hit three. Kind of took over the game in the Africans EMMA and really pushed him out to pretty good lead. Uh. So he's one that an eye on I think Arizona to try to get fall up out of his hand off. But other than that, Yeah, there's there's a freshman for new Has. It comes off the bench. Uh. He doesn't get a lot of minutes, but he's athletic. It's Miles Colvin. Uh. He's the son of Roosevelt Colvin, the linebacker
that played for the Patriots and the Bears in the NFL. He gives them, gives them a big flipt and he's athletic as well too. So there's a couple of guys to keep an eye on as you you know, as you watch Saturday's game. Yeah, so should be. You said it's gonna be sold out. I understand the Colts game is going to be around the corner. Uh, in a big game there too, right, Yeah,
it's actually in the state of Indiana. On Saturday, you have the top three college basketball teams in the in the country in the state of Indiana. Because Kansas is playing at Indiana at twelve thirty Eastern time. You got Arizona and Purdue playing four hours later. And then the Colts are playing Pittsburgh at the same time as the Purdue game. So Indiana is a bit of an epicenter of activity on Saturday in the sports world, and they'll be playing Hoosiers
later that night. So so tell me, you know, was the Northwestern game a blip? You know, how did they what did they expose? Because you know, I'm looking at this first of all, the Maui Classic, Holy Cal. You know the three teams that they beat there, you come out, you know, then you know, lost Northwestern, but now you've beaten or they've beaten Iowa in Alabama. What was the Northwestern game?
What happened there? Well, it's not a clip because Northwestern beat them last year when they remember, so it was a bit of a repeat of what happened a year. Agoudu has had trouble with stronger, more physical arts that ter and dark the last couple of years and boom boot or question that profile really well and they about him under control. Uh. In that game, Purdue had seventeen turnovers and Northwestern only had three, so they were minus fourteen
in the turnover category. Uh. You know, sometimes produced best offense is just getting a shot up because there's such a good offensive rebounding team that when they turned the ball over, they give themselves no chance. Right. Uh, So but the Northwestern game wasn't a blip. You know, we've seen
that script before. But now now that they've they've been through it, you know, you hope that they get a little bit better for it, and you know Saturday will be another test as they get ready to get back in Big Ten play in a couple of weeks. Yeah, So how many how many years have you covered the team? Well? As I mentioned to you off the air, I mean, I used to be with the local newspaper.
I was with them for three decades and then I you know, moved over to Golden Blacks dot Com to help them cover basketball and some other things. So off and on, probably you know, twenty twenty some years or so. Yeah, so you're kind of like us. We're former newspaper guys. Now we're doing the radio. So are the teams? Are the teams you've covered? Purdue obviously very good ones over the years. I would assume
that this may be one of the better ones over the years. Well, I think it happened that was very good back into a match up against the years out of it. You coached Ford when he had to he had the Three Amigos back in the late eighties, and then they had a run in the mid nineties where they won three great Big ten championships. They've been on the verge of the four a couple of times, just haven't broken. You know. The last time the final four was eighty. Yeah, so it's
been a long time for them. And but the recent run here that that Matt paint was put together with Roster, you know, it's probably been honestly, yeah, we're still you're still breaking up again. Hey, Well my last year memory of Matt Painter. I I was working Nancy Double, a tournament up in uh uh uh Regional up in Phoenix. Yeah, you were probably there, and in a in a huddle, he snapped a clipboard over his thigh. He was trying to get his guys fired up, and he
busted the clipboard and I'm like, wow, this is great. Uh you know, but you know, he's a getting his guys going, and I you know, I really liked watching him because he you know, just watching him coaching you when you you know, I sit under the basket when I when I work these tournaments, and it's great. You know, that's the
first time I saw Sean Millard, you know, doing stuff. He was there with the Savior, and I don't know if the two were playing each other, but I just remember watching that and he, you know, he was he's trying to get his guys going, but he's you know, I wouldn't know if you would because of that call him fiery, but certainly a guy that you know, demands attention, and these guys, I think give
it to him if they've been so good for so many years. Yeah, he got that, I'm pretty sure, or anything like that, but he's he's calmed down a little bit with age, but he's still still very passionate. Yeah. Okay, well, thanks a bunch. We appreciate your time and and good luck on Saturday covering the game. We know it's work. They get there early, right, stay out of traffic, right, Yeah, try to Thanks for thanks for reaching out. Appreciate I appreciate it.
Yeah, so we got some stump stuff from him. Yeah. Uh, you know, I don't when we say Purdue basketball, it doesn't kind of shake. He does it, not like Duke in Kansas and those, but even they're still they're they're they're like they're sort of a next level, well right, the next level. But you you heard the history it's a long history, but it's not a great one, right they well haven't been to a final four instance eighty Yeah, so yeah, no, but you know
that you're you're always up against it when they're always good. But you know, are they great? Right? And everybody thought they were great last year and then they got beat as a one seat Well, let me tell you was hearing him hearing him talk about the team. I mean, Arizona has everything that they can't handle. Well, he talked about hand handling physical guards guards, right, that's the one. The cop Yeah, me too, said, you know they have trouble with with physical guards. Well, that's
what Arizona's guards are. Yeah, every guard that goes out there and plays Arizona is a physical I'm thinking if it's if it's a two or three point spread, I think Arizona, well there's okay. Again, they've got ten files to throw it, Zack with with with grievous and and remember the pace, right, it's not going to be slow right right, okay. And again if he's a back to the basket kind of guy, yeah, you
know he maybe and down the court he may be there. I had heard there's actually you know, uh and listen whatnot who complained that Z doesn't get Edie zd Edie doesn't get enough Foles calling as big as us. We had a game, good day, We had zero files. He said, how does the seven to four guy who plants himself in the paint not get any files? So, well, say, I think it's gonna be intero. Well guess what I'm hearing now people on Saturday saying how does he not get
any down? You're right, You're right. Okay, take our bank. We'll take your calls. Five to two, zero four, one, six, seventy four, forty. Would love to hear your thoughts on the Purdue game coming up. They have fifteen minutes if you guys want to give us a quick call five two oh four one six seventy four forty. Uh. It was kind of a muddled interview, but it was
sweet. You understood most of it. Yeah, you know, and again I think you know what struck you did we talk about it any talking about what struck me? Was that the whole thing about the guard Yeah, yeah, that Northwestern has physical guards that out physical uh produced guards, and that's what That's one of the things that that I think is sort of a you know who Arizona is. Yeah, right, it's it's physical play out on
the perimeter and not just at the guard spot. Right before you got Keisha Johnson, who's very physical in the fore spot, you got Umar and and UH and Grievous were physical Arizona. If we ever said Arizona's a very physical team, but they are, Yeah, they are, and they play fast and they'll get into it. They can play both ways. Although we haven't seen it really kind of slow down yet. I don't think they can get well, I don't teams will have to kind of slow down, slow down
and get a lead. Yeah for the and I think that's what we're gonna see with this Purdue game, right because Purdue games, you know, they're not going to run up and down the court with Zachi, That's not what he does. So if Arizona can go play in this game and still do what it does, well, no, now you're talking about a team that's you know, really really good, and the possibilities or you know, kind of off the charts, if they can handle this type of team, because
if they handled Duke, they handled Michigan State, they handled Wisconsin. I mean they they had their way with all three of those teams. You know, in a lot of regards. I know the Duke game was very close, but you know Arizona did. Arizona dictated that game. Yeah, yeah, they they had to lead a lot of it. Blah blah blah. And Duke's not in fact, I saw I didn't read the whole story, but Duke is not the Duke team. Everyone thought it would be right and
obviously coach kse not said that arguably that. You know, so one of the top two or three players in the country. You know, so the big guy's very good. Yeah, he's really really good Patchanowski or something, Yeah, one of those. I mean, so I think that you know, this is another game that and you know Tommy's going to this game. He's playing with house money. Yeah. Let's take this call higher on the air and I on the ball. Hey guy, what's up? This is
VI, Hey Vic, what's going on? Well? I kind of wanted to change up from men's to women's and get your opinion on on the on the on the Mayan Naji controversy there. Okay, you went to the game last night, right, Yeah, I went to the game last night, and uh, I just wonder is there anybody to blame? Is uh? I mean a DA had to know two years ago recruiting this girl, she's pre med. Do you do this? Uh? Do you ask her? Can you handle the workload? And knowing probably you can't. What happens if
this girl shows up at Stanford next month? I mean, what's gonna happen then? Is that? Do who takes the blame for that? I don't know. Is there a blame? Is there a blame? I think that's a strong word. We all have to find blame somewhere, But I don't is blame. Maybe we don't know what. Well, we can only somebody miscalculate. We can only believe what they're telling us is true. Correct, that she's she's studied last night, or she needed time off to do her
studies. Uh, this is super second, that's true, and we have to assume that's true. Good for her, good for her, and good for a idea for letting her do this. But but if something happens in the next two weeks, right, if all of a sudden she's not here, you know, next next week. Yeah, you know, because the
school the school semester has ended. Correct, right now? You know, I do know, just because I you know, one of my daughters is just up until yesterday, she was still doing stuff, so you know, and what whatever pre mat is like, maybe she needed this week to do it to wrap up some things. If that, in fact is the case, that there has to be an end to that coming up. Yeah, So, vic Vick, you and I spoke last night or communicated last night.
You were in the stands, and what was the buzz from the older geezers giving her props and blah blah blah to some people being fit because the team is already shorthanded, which Maya knew. And how can you leave your team hanging like that? H which I can see both sides, I can see, and you got to do with this for you as far as Maya's concerned. But yeah, man, you're leaving a team that you knew only had ten going in and now you're leaving them with nine and and there.
So, so how integral is is her? Is her? Is her participation on that team? Oh? Very She's probably the second best player on the team right now, behind Gilbert, so she would have mattered. This is I'm making a face at that. I'm not so sure that she She might be disappointing as a five star and everybody says that, but he was making a little jump. He played well against UNLV and she scored seven points and
defended Who else do you want in there? Yeah? Well, and it hurt last night too because Braa Cunningham got two fouls in the first minute and that's my if my and Igie hadn't started, that's when she would have come in the game and then they had to go with another you know, another player in the middle, so that that specifically her last night year long.
So but I did Mark three eight Thursday. Vick was very positive. I had to raise this, but like I said, I do think there is some blame to go because you And I'll give you another instance real quick. When my girls went to Texas, they were going to take general hygienis or whatever, and the classes were on Saturday. A whole bunch of class were on Saturday, and the coach said no, because we play on Saturday.
So you can't take that as your major, right, But that's how do you How do you crush your girl's dreams or women's dreams by doing that? If she wants to come here, where you go one or the other? I don't know, I don't know. Yeah, because you just don't recruit her. I mean there's got to be something you got this. Uh, it's stuff on Ada because guess what idea you're a basketball coach, so that's
what you got to watch out for. Who's that football player? David Richards was an aerospace engineer major somebody around that period of time, playing Uh, or either Stoops or rich Rod was like aerospace. Yeah, I know you're talking about and and it's like, you know, I mean, that's pretty hard, you know, academic load. I'm sure for that guy, but I don't know, you know, there's no way. I just until until we see my anerogi come back and everything's fine, people are gonna be guessing.
And the way that the way that she answered the question to whoever asked the question was very stern and short. And that's not like her, you know what I'm saying. I mean, she's got to be frustrated. You're losing You're losing players the last few years, so she's got to be frustrated too. You have no question, you only have ten players, and and then and then real quick. My second thing is with this streaming thing on Peacock, and I'm an old geezer. It's tough for me to do all
that stuff. But it is funny because my kids don't pay for cable and do all the streaming and stuff, and yet they get away with it and all that stuff. And I'm a consumer, and I can guarantee you Christmas wise, I showed out thousands more than my kids did. But yeah there. How do you say the demographic Yeah no, I told I say that all the time to Jay and because he's he's got the young and I have the younger kids. But we're the ones with the money. Yeah yeah,
yeah, I don't know, we're going to your house. We're not the demographic dage. No one cares about old geezers, I'm telling you. But anyway, I did get peacocks, so I just got to throw that in. What time does firs open? We're gonna go? Oh man, I miss first so bad. I miss so bad. The question you guys had yesterday about how old is old? Yeah, and I out young at that game last night that there were a lot of them there too. Okay,
thanks, thank you again. The whole the whole mind thing is it's strange. Yeah, no, it is, it is, And we can only believe what they tell us until something changes. Yeah, so we'll see, we'll see. Yeah. I do feel bad, But the circumstances are the circumstances. The thing you get into it, you get into a possession like
my nagis in, which in Tucson is very public. Yeah, you're on a basketball team that's that's got a following now, you know, five years ago, when there were three hundred fans going to the game, you wouldn't even know then around right, Well, first of all, my nudge wouldn't have come here, so there, let's go to that. Well, but you know, you you you you're, you're in that kind of position.
It's kind of like people are asking and people are making stuff up and people are, you know, assuming certain things when it may be that she had some schoolwork that had to get done in order to stay in pre med and she needed to get it done right right, No, no, you you talked about this before we started the show with the conversation on Twitter. The idea talked about what was her solution, says Twitter, you want me to
do well? Somebody made the comment that they should say that they should say, and Hobb said, you know, normally they would, but you know it, this may be the situation. I think I Dia took it wrong. And she basically told ho, you've got my number, you know where I'm at. If you want to talk about this, let me know. Oh really I didn't see that one. Yeah, well that's but I think she took it wrong. See that's the whole thing. Normally she wouldn't take
it wrong or she's never snippy, or depends on who it is. So to me, it seems like more because you don't have to be snippy a bit. She's in school, she's in class at the end. Who knows. Then she followed up with a with a tweet saying that how much she loves her husband because you get off of Twitter. Well you basically we like to break news that you give us. Basically say what the hell are you
doing? Turn that, take that, put that phone down. I'll be come on, you know, I don't tweet because that's exactly you tweet every now and again. But it's only gonna get you in trouble. Well, and when you're Dea Barnes, people listen and they watch, they respond, and there's and that's one of the reasons they love her because she's open and she's she's engaging, right, and they and they interpret things. So no, I that was a fun little exchange. I didn't I understood what Hobb
was saying. I understand. But then when she said was like, okay, I understand. I went back and read Hobb's text and I mean tweet tweet, and I said, okay, I see how she thought he was criticizing her for not coming out and saying that she was transferring if in fact she's transferred, or that she's off the team, if in fact she's off,
I was saying. Hobb was basically saying, normally, they say what the situation is, and in this case, they're telling us it's this, yeah, and if it if it's not that, then why didn't you tell us? And then she come and said, you know, you know where I am. Call her right now, here's my text. I will say, we'll let people know. You know, we had we had Helena Playo on the show on Tuesday, and we were scheduled to have my anagy.
We had announced it the day before and the day of Wednesday we were told, you know, Maya was not available and then we would have Helena Playo and we took Alana and we talked to her and it was fine. But you know, it was just I was told something came up. So the funny thing about is you're right. I mean back ten years ago, seven years ago, I wouldn't have thought anything of it. That's how big the
program was going. And that's great. There were seventy two hundreds and it looked like seventy two hundred, and it was loud, and they stayed. Steve well, Jay that that group of people who go seize the games very loyal, and it's a totally different audience. I mean, when they got down twenty six, I thought this thing's gonna empty, and it did not, because then they make this run. I think it went in like a fifteen to one run. And I looked up in the seats and they were
all still there and they were still loud. It's a great crowd. It's a great crowd, and it's a different crowd than what I'm used to. So it was a fun night. It was a good atmosphere. I thought I was gonna acquit itself pretty well. You know, they were getting blown out at one point, but they stuck with it, and so I you know, things aren't as bad as I've been saying. So they weren't bad. All right, Let's take our break.
