This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jakin Zaliz on Fox Sports fourteen fifty powered by Nova Insurance Services Ensure your most prized possessions, katz R two SAD and iHeart Radio Station. Yet very good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to I on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, He's jagon'sas welcome to Thursday as we inch closer to the big game or a game on Saturday. Uh, you ever been? Uh? You ever

been? You ever? Asking you girl all you have to go back to for forty years Jay And then she says yes, and you're excited and then she calls it, I gotta do my hair on Saturday. That's what happened to us today. It did. But we might get a chance tomorrow to come back with it. Well, we'll see. I see you when I believe it. I believe it. When Yeah, we had we had a

good show and slated anyway. You know. We had Lamont still Lay Yeah, yeah, and then we had uh Rob waldropame Hall of Fame guy, kind of the you know, the quiet guy of the four Hall of Famers, right, Cecil and Ricky Hunley are on the staff, Teddy Bruce Key's on ESPN, He's all over the place. Rob Waldrop, who really think you know he was the first of them? Well, no, Ricky Honley

was the first. But and but anyways, Waldrop, you know, the really the anchor to that desert swarm defense and he's just kind of behind the scenes kind of guy, low key kind I know he was. I don't know if he's still anyways, he was supposed to be here on the on the show today. Uh noticed that late notice that he won't be able to make it. We're still gonna try and line him up for tomorrow, he said to the most better day. Yeah, but I think we got to

an able replacement. It was kind of funny press conference today with jet Fish right the two deep Jet two deep depth chart was released and so there were a lot of questions about it, and so Brian had some funny some questions. It's there's a lot of some discussion, but there a couple of funny things that happened as a part of that. But uh, but uh well we'll get to that in a second. But uh, Brian will be here at for seventeen for twenty to kind of go over the depth chart a couple

of surprises. Yeah, well from from from the media's end, Yeah, from our end, maybe not from that coach and the coache and and and Jdfish speaks to that that it's shouldn't be a surprised to players, but we were a little bit. So It's funny because the guy who asked the question originally it was Michael eb Right, and he kind of phrased it perfectly where he wanted to go with it, you know, to depth chart, blah blah blah. It's more of a story for us than it is for you.

Yeah, you know, And that's pretty much how we ask call our I shouldn't ask all our questions, but all our questions are media driven because we have a story to do, right, and sometimes it pisses off coaches or players, but we have to create our own stories. Well we do, and and and part of it is because we've got such so much less material because you don't get to very very much. It's very true, and depth charts, for some reason in this preseason have become a big talking point

for coaching to that point. H It's kind of interesting because previous bad years there was no depth. Yeah, right, and so yeah, and I mean yeah, and Arizona is really intriguing because they've got there's guys all over the place, but who are worthy of being starters. Maybe would be started somewhere, but they're not starters here in Arizona, which is unusual, very unusual. Right, But this is not the basketball team. This is a

football team. But let's get let's get into some of the jet clips, you know, his introduction talking about crowd and just excited to play and all that kind of stuff. We'll play that, then we'll get into the depth charts stuff and excited about the game, excited to get started. I think

our team is they're ready to play another opponent. It's been a long thirty one days and a good thirty one days, but you get to a point where you're tired of practicing and you want to play, and that's where they're at right now. We're very fortunate going into this game that our team is

ready, is healthy, is ready to go. I don't expect anybody not to be able to play in the game and in our too deep which way I think we released today and I think that we'll get after it and do the best we possibly can to play with great effort on every single snap and see how physical we can play on Saturday night. That is the challenge to

our team. Can we be extremely physical? So we'll see looking forward to a great crowd, looking forward to the day we don't have to talk about the crowd, looking forward to the day that the crowd is just here. But we're getting closer to that. We're getting closer. That we sold a thousand tickets this morning from what I was told, So we're a thousand up from what we were yesterday when Dave spoke. So that's a good sign.

And as we get closer to the game, hopefully that will continue and we'll be out of point point in time that we are a sellout at Arizona Stadium every time we play. So that is the goal, and the goal is to not have to talk about that any further. So, Jay, you didn't ask a question. I didn't either. I just didn't feel compelled to, but I wanted to. It would have been if we had access to him off the off the podium, I would have asked him one question,

what about you? Would you would you think? Were you thinking about asking? Had I had my mind was. It was a silly one, but I would have started my story with this because that's kind of simple for me. I can ask him. So he's in his third year now. Three years ago he had his first game. Was he nervous that night? Did he feel uneasy? Did he whatever? And three years later does he still get nervous? And is this a big game? I ran a great question

up. No, but it's kind of like not those guys asked the team question. I'm more about cycle a lot, you know, because what if you lose it, what if you don't play well today or Saturday? Compared to you know what I'm saying, I'm trying to guilt some emotional kind of thing from him. Well, you know, do you think he still gets nervous? I think he does. I think he does. I mean I think he's I think he's confident. But who doesn't. I mean, who

doesn't get nervous? Steve? I mean, you know you do, and and it's nervous, but it's not nerves about worrying about winning or losing. That's nerves about that. It's just nerves about we have a game, and we've been building up to this and now it's here. No, that's what I would have asked him. And that's kind of how what I started the starting story. He he was nervous, then he's still nervous now after twenty seven games or whatever. No, my time as a coach is so far

away from this. I mean, did you get nervous? Yes, every game? Why you wanted, You wanted your team to play well. You you wanted to win. In my case, you know, both my kids were pitchers, so you know I got even more nervous when they were pitching,

but not not worrying. I wouldn't say the nervous was nervousness was about oh what if lose or you know, about the winds, and the nervousness was just about making sure that you did all the right things to give your to do your job as well as you can, to give your team a chance away. And did that go it went away? I assume I don't. I don't know if I got I wouldn't say I got like total butterflies every game. But every game I'm like, I'm a little worked up.

I was okay, So if you're you know, under the lights in Arizona State and forty fifty thousand people there. Of course, you're going to be somewhat nervous. I don't think. I think if you're not nervous, you're you're a little you little I know, I don't. I think I think you can be too relaxed. I know you gotta haven't. And that's why I wanted to ask the question, because it's it's a different question, and it would have been his response to me would have been, that's what I

wanted, That's what I was looking for. He says, no, I'm okay, or you know what I'm saying. Either way, it was going to be, you know a story. I think coaches do get nervous, Steven. I think Bill Belichick gets nervous. I didn't see. To me, it's it's like gold in fact, you and I, but it's I don't have that. You and I had this argument or whatever. It was about two years ago when I've talked about the guys and we had John Pena, and we didn't asking this. How they play and their athletes, right,

they've been doing this all the year. This is what they do. And they're in the super Bowl or a big playoff game. Do you still get nervous? And I'm thinking This is what they do. And I'm sure there's a the jit or some kind of but but a nervous this is what they do. I know you were. You were very nervous when you took this job. Right anymore? I still get a little twitched before a show, really because I don't, you know, I just want us to have a good show, Steve. Yeah, well we just kind of I know,

we're just trying to shoot the crap. I know, but I think about the show all day long. Really, I do, what are you? What are you doing? I do because I just want, you know, I want to put out a good product. But Steve, I've done that about I did that route every news release I ever wrote, oh and every story I ever wrote. I get that you don't want to screw it up. That's what it is. That's a different type of nervous. You didn't you didn't qualify, you didn't. Yeah, exactly, But you know

what I'm saying. Okay, Okay, what else we gotta Let's talk about names. Let's talk about names. Okay, Well they're they're okay. Here's

here's so. An email went out before today's press conference saying that they're going to do a new procedure at the press conference is and they wanted everybody to raise your hand and then when you get called on, say who you are and then in the name of the organization, which is well, you do at the NC Double A tournament, the PAC twelve tournaments, big events like that. We're sitting in a room. Everybody knows everybody, so we started.

So guys are asking questions, they're doing This was Jed's response when after that happened a couple of times. Are you guys messing when they giving me your names? I mean, we're in your three by now, guys, I do know all of I do know all of you by now, and this is something we could have done in twenty twenty one would have been helpful. But now at this point, I think we're good. Brian from az Desert Swarm. Uh, the question that you just asked me was about the

tape. Uh. You know, honestly, the real focus for us is going to be how good can we play? How good can we execute. I've certainly watched their last six games that they played last season, did not spend a lot of time focusing in on our game from two years ago. Obviously, I watched it. I watched you know, most of the plays that have been run against their defense and game won the week one or week one of a season. If it's not about you, I don't know what

it's about. I don't know who who can really figure out what a new what a team's gonna do. We put a certainly lot of new stuff in. I'm sure that they did as well. So the key really is gonna be how we execute our offense and our defense and our kicking game. The joke, if there was a joke on this, he was the only one that didn't know this in the room exactly. I was surprised at that that. In fact, I kind of thought that it probably would have been somebody

from the football office who did that. Maybe it was, but nobody told Jed right, and it may have been maybe like Brendon or somebody. It wouldn't been, wouldn't It was pretty funny too, because then David Kelly asked the question without giving his name, and he goes, who are you? You know? It added some really light uh and it just got it was still when you look at him and he's talking on the podium, and then

I respect Jed a lot obviously he's been every everywhere. He's a normal coach, not a normal coach, but a coach coach, a coach's coach. What never joked with you like that? Yeah? Yeah, you know what I'm saying. He's just a dude who kind of likes the coach. Yeah, and he's having fun. Yeah, he's Tommy Lloyd's the same way. Yeah, those two guys as far as that goes are. It was funny.

Somebody asked me because you know how Tommy pokes passed. Yeah, and I actually got asked, does Tommy not like Bruce Pascoe And they said no. I said, he loves him, and that's why he pokes at him because he knows that he can. And they fun with it. Sure, sure, sure, pretty funny anyway. So Michael lev did ask about we ask Lute about Bruce different. Yeah, that's a whole different things or by you or me? All right. Michael Left did ask specifically about the depth

chart that came out today. There were a couple of surprises, I think, stuff that we kind of thought, but then you know, we saw it in print and it sounds a little different. Here's what he Jed had

to say about his depth chart. Yeah, I would think that you would have to be unaware as a player to know where you are on the depth chart by this point in time, based on you know, we run groups of the ones are up, the twos are up, the threes are up, the basics are up, which is our really period at the end of practice where we really want to see our younger players get better and improve and guys that haven't had a lot of reps in practice have what ends up being

about eight against one another offense versus defense. Uh. Something that I took from my time in New England that not many other programs do, actually none that I was a part of before that at the end of practice you get eight guys that didn't take a lot of reps to go against another or excuse me, eight plays of eleven on eleven. So I think that our I don't think our team would be surprised at all on the depth chart what it looks like. I would be shocked if anyone came and knocked on my door

about that. But the key is this, The depth chart is for this game and this game only, and depending on how people play, will determine if the depth chart moves at certain positions. And that's really just a starting point. No, no, exactly. It's more of a story from the media end than it was from the team. And because Jay, you know who you're at, you yes, and players know. You know. A friend of mine used to always say players on the team know who should be

playing right, and they do and they do. But you know, there are a couple of prizes and I think you know, justin flow right, who we thought, you know, five star guy out of Oregon, I was going to commence set the world on fire. And you know he he's not. He's not number one on the depth chart. He's behind Daniel. I'm only the guy from Washington. So both guys from great programs are transferred in Arizona and they're there and they play the same position. One of them

has to start, one of us not going to start. But we'll see what they both look like. I'm sure we'll see both of them. And he says, he says that a lot they're gonna you know, you're gonna see some guys. So I think I think that's the thing about what we're gonna see is that you know, they've got they got plenty of guys. We got plenty of guys who can We're gonna be able to play. We're gonna see different guys, and the depth chart may change, you know,

from week to week. Uh, you know, throughout the season. So it's uh, I think that's a good problem to have. And I don't even call it a problem. It's a good thing to have. So all right, let's take our break. When come back, Lamont and Huntley and Arizona football, all of America will be joining us and get some of his perspective. We always love having him on to talk about what he sees on

Streamy Live, I mean, I heart Radio WI. This is I on the Ball with Steve Ribera and Jacob Salas on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. Hey, welcome back to I'm About here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera. He's Jaken Zose. Now I'm the spone is my wife. You have

to separate two guys, your wifey to put you in check. You don't read your nose. I'm on your I'm on your side. On the way, I have I have proof for you. Hey, are you excited about about the Saturday? I'm excited about football all around? Man. I'm you know, I'm naturally excited because Arizona get to shoot it up again and play some good football. But now the game of football is is in front of us again, and that's that what makes my excitement. What what's been your

general impression so far? What you've seen, you know, on the field, practice wise, the guys, the players they have. What's your general impression maybe compared to you this time last year or whatever. Well, the main the major thing that I think I see is guys are really coming together as a complete unit on both sides of the ball, particularly the offense. I think, I think the offense itself, they they they create trust with one another up and down the line, as well as the quarterbacks and the

running backs. I mean, you can see that trust being developed with these young kids, and you know, the confidence is there. I mean, they got so much confidence in themselves as far as being together an additional year that I believe that's that's part of their growth that I see just as well. Most noticeful thing on defense is probably just the size, you know, just the size of the defense. They have gotten bigger up front, which

is a plus for us, it's a positive for us. But I still think, I still think the defense still have a couple of steps behind the offense to develop themselves, and it's gonna take I think it's gonna take a couple of games before we can really trust on that defense at this point. So well, you may gole mention that, Jake, when you were walking to the to the press conference, today that you run into or behind us

some guys that were massive, and you could just tell it's different. They just look different, yeah, you know, just they you know, getting a little more skinnier, not skinnier, but taking some of that that baby feed off their body. Their their bodies are changing in that fashion, you

know. And honestly they standing upright because they have confidence. Now, you know, they're not walking around with their heads down or sagging because the fact that they don't believe that they, you know, can be compete, can be competitive in each game that they're about to play, you know. And I think it's you know, it's it's it is to get a little easier to be more confident playing in a you it should be you know, regardless we lost a game two years or not, but you still should have that

confidence going into this week and preparing for this game. So you walk around at campus, you should be walking around the campus, you looking much taller and stouter and stronger. But they are, they do. They brought more bigger bodies on the campus for sure. Let me ask you a question that we talked about, JA and I talked about. So your player, you're a player, and you were a player for a long time. Obviously, did you get nervous before every game no matter the opponent. No, I

didn't. I mean I think I had a little bit different DNA in my body in regards to how I prepare for the game. I prepare for the game doing practice. I prepare myself, you know, as far as being ready for any situation that might might come in front of me, as far as offensively the things that I see, as far as you know, the different fronts that I see offensively and whatnot. And I prepare myself by you know, practicing heart on the days that we practice, as well as within

the classroom too with the film study. So I made it a little more relaxing for myself personally. So when the game came, I wanted to be more looser and just go out there and free and just play the game and not after be all tensed up about it. And you know, and I think, you know, there's some guys that have that personality that some guys that don't. There are some guys that you know, ready to run their

heads or through a brick wall because that's what get them excited. I mean, I, like I said, I was just a different personality wise, because I knew I was prepare throughout the week and ready to play the game. Yeah, I agree with you. What about in the NFL, what was the biggest game you were in and were you were you queasy about that one or nervous the first first game I played in as far as suiting up as the NFL player were playing Seattle up in the up in the I think

it was called the Kingdom back in those days. So it was playing them, and in the backfield they had that Kurt Warner in the backfield, and you know that Reggie McKenzie was the offensive god that I lined up. Again, it was old school rich I mean, older Regie McKenzie, but it

was still Reggie McKinsey. You know. So as far as that end of things, me lining up and I'm seeing people like that that you know that I saw on TV for years and years and years, and all of a sudden, I'm I'm lining up against these you know, all pros and whatnot. You know, that did put some fear of me in regards to, you know, step up and be a part of this or not. And

you know, I still remember that particular play. It was a trap and I saw Reggie McKenzie he he he blocked down and I can't right off his butt and went in the backfield and I, you know, I barely got uh Kurt Warner's ankle. I'm talking about running back. Kurt wanna guy that ankle in the backfield and I made attack in the backfield. And at that point in the time, I said, well maybe I can play this game.

That's great. Well, well, what about when you were in college when you came here to Arizona. You're gonna play in your first game in Arizona. How did that? How did that feel? Well, if I can relate back, I think the first game as a freshman, you know, at that time, I wasn't you know, starting on the feet on. As far as a defensively, I was. I was a special team player as far as playing the game on special teams and things like that.

And if I can you know, kind of remember back that far. In regards to being prepared again, I you know, you know, I again, I think personally I wasn't up you know, particularly emotional or anything like that. I think it's just my personality Jay, in regards to you know, if if if I do what I was supposed to do. Even on

special teams, you got to prepare. If I did what I was supposed to do throughout the week, then the games to me became, you know, just one to get the ball, get tackled, just running around and make tackles. At that point, yeah, I agree with you players. Well, it's all we always say. The first couple of players you get into the game. They talk about guys who are in the super Bowl,

they say, you know, the first play. Yeah, but then all of a sudden, now it's now it's just a game like every other game that you ever played. Yeah, yeah, it gets that point and and but you know, but but I still believe that there's some guys that that that kind of you know, get sick. I mean they physically get sick in regards to approach of of getting prepared for a game, you know, even high school all the way up to the professional level. I mean,

that's just some guys just physically gets sick. And I just think that's just a personality who they are. That's a personality, a treat that they own and they have and it just you know, part of again, part of their DNA. I mean, I played with guys that you want. You can't even talk to them, you know, because they're they're about to turn your head off before you know, be go to get out on the field. And I'm like, dude, I mean, it's just a game.

Let's just play and leave that, you know, for for the opponent and stuff like that. But you know, but everybody's different. Yeah, no, I hear, you know, I hear you know. So so look, we know, we know what happened two years ago with an AU, but this is it's still an AU. Arizona is supposed to beat these guys. How's the approach to that? You know, Jed talked about we're just

worrying about ourselves. But you know, when you know you've got an opponent outmanned, how do you you know, understand that but not take any chances? Right? Well, number one, you know, if you got an inferior opponent, you should be in the mindset that I'm gonna go out in and dominate period. You know, I mean, I'm I'm I'm gonna dominate

these guys. And you know, now if I'm a starter, I mean me personally, I'm going out there to you know, dominate them, and and and and try to get off the field really and let some of the reserves play at that point in time. But you know, you you you can't take each a team by team lackily or regardless who they are. But if it's any you, I mean in my head, I mean, you should have the mindset that we're gonna crush these guys who was scoring fifty points

and ain't gonna scoring nothing. I mean, as far as the mindset that

that should be. You know, in these catch they're they're thinking in regards to the outcome of this game, you know, I mean, you it's there may be some kids it's taking that lackly, but you know, I think the coaching staff got to prepare them in that fashion too that you can't take anyone like uh likely in regards to thinking that, you know, all you got to do is get on the field with your block aon and any you gonna just drop fall down on the ground, right, you know,

I think I think you know, the approach hopefully this week in regards to what we did two years ago, it's gonna be quite different, you know, And I hope that you know, those are the things that they echoing to this kid. Remember what we did two years ago. I listened to some of these kids talk, the ones that was not here, and you know, I think that the thing that I like the most is the pride that they have right now, even the guys that was not here, the

pride that they have in regards to approach of this game. I know we lost this game. I wasn't a part of it, but we're Arizona, so we we We're gonna be prepared for this game. So let me ask you. I know you're not the spokesman for your brother, so I want to see that initially. What's his role? Is he back yet or what's his situation? No, no, he Ricker's role has has changed. He's not on the field as far as coaching the kids on the field at this

point. But but Ricky has a very valuable role in regards to what he's doing on a daily basis with the kids. He's working with him off the field, he's working with in the classroom, he's working with recruits, he's working with alumni, he's working with boosters. I mean, he's taking on a lot of that role and a lot of the heavy that that you know, some of the other coaches you know, may not be able to handle

at this point in time. And he's not just dealing with you know, his defensive lineman, he's dealing with every kid on the team now, you know. So, so he's he's you know, he's he's a guy that they all can come to and he's making sure the grades are what they're supposed to be and things are in place so they can be prepared to play on Saturday. And he's embraced that role because you know, number one, his

health is more important at this point of his life. And you know, he has a couple of blood classes and lingering in his legs, so he can't stay out there much in his body weight can't be on him. So so he got he gotta you know, take care of that and his health is more important than they think at this pointant right, you know. So Okay, So now we have a doing a keena and a guy like you would appreciate doing. I think Jay and I really think highly of doing his

style. He gets on you, but he doesn't get on you like you know, tough. He's he's he's teaching all the time. He's an older dude, old school but not old schools just your thoughts on him. Well, I mean, he's he's he's a brush of fresh air. I mean defensively coming out there and and and being able to bring the level of of of energy and a love of motion and passionate that he has so many years bottled up and that he can give to these kids. And it's and and

it's affectionists. I mean it it goes from not only the players that he's he's he's dealing with, you know, his position, but I think it also goes to the other players also as well as the coaching staff. You know, So as far as his level of what he's bringing, as far as the passion and the energy, you know, it's it's you know, it's it's actually it's it's icing on the cake compared to his coaching, you know, because his coaching by itself is resonated by itself, is is amazing

and the type of players he coached. But now you can bring that passion along with it and and show that you know, you love this game just as much as the kids playing the game. I think those young kids out there are gonna be running around just is you know, try to outdo the old man, so to speak, but but I love it. I mean I love it. And he's a guy that me personally if I was a

player, you know, I could play for him any day. All right, So we got a game Saturday. What do you what do you hope to see and do you sort of have a score that you'd like to see in your mind? Well, I mean I score wise, I want to see the offense, you know, you know, put a couple of zeros under one in front of it, because you know, I think I think

offensively, but offensively, I shouldn't say one hundred points offensively. What I want to see offensively, I want to see offensively where they actually do more running than they do going to pass the ball. I think this is the opportunity for our offensive line, who are young, to be able to do some grinding and pushing on some bodies and get some bodies down the field,

you know. And I think our running backs is to me that that group of running backs and some of the best running backs in the country, particularly in the Pac twelve, you know, so let those kids get loose and run the ball. I mean, I would like to see, you know, where you got a series where he's running eight nine times and picking up you know, a few yards down the field, get down there and punch it in the in the in the end zone. You know, I don't

think I wouldn't. I don't want to see it a big pass it point in time. I mean, we got we know what we got out there with those guys sitting on the edges and stuff. So let's let's let's get our offensive line and tack and get them some more confidence in regards to pushing bodies down the field and let the running backs run. You know, one or two of'em may hit a big one and it could be one or two play series. But do do I think you've best to do it on

the ground versus in the air. And then you know, let the defense run around and create some havoc. Hit some big get some big hits, get a turn over here and there, and sit your butt on the sideline. Right Yeah, Okay, thank you on the monk. Appreciate it. Laman. You nice to me. I can tell I can tell you're fired up. Man. First of all, you gotta learn to read. I just sent you text. down all the excess at all. It's Dean Romero and Jagen Summons. This is on Fox Sports fourteen different. Hey, welcome back to about you know, Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I was Steve RIVERI he's jacking oats and I still love you the money we all we always love you. He'll give me stuff, still give me grief on Saturday. It doesn't matter. I say, hello, He's gonna get as he is. And you know what I think, you just need to believe it. But I'll pitt good. We

get about twelve minutes. Anybody want to call us, please do five two, four, one, six, seventy four forty uh you can go to the game. What are you gonna do? Tonight's the first games. I think I'm gonna watch a little of the Florida Utah games. I'm gonna watch a lot of starts at what time? Seven? Uh, that's a five o'clock start start, Okay, so when we leave, yeah, because it's six o'clock their time, so Utah. Yeah, YEA believe that. I

believe that's correct. Yeah, they are. They are not our time there, Yeah, they're they're an hour they're an hour later than us. And game is uh yeah, oh that game. Yeah, that came as at five o'clock some time. So that'll be going right, okay, right as you finished. But Steve and we've been talking all football. It's a big, big baseball series starting this week. I'm starting to do Dodgers in the Braves. Uh really, the two best the two best teams and uh and

in at least in the National League. Right now, it doesn't really matter now, I mean I'm asking a serious question. I think I think it does in the sense of, you know where you're at, yeah, you know, you know. I mean if the Brave it's a four game series, that's the first thing. It's at Dodger Stadium. It's a four game series if one team when if it goes three one, one or the other, you carry that into the playoffs, and you would expect that you're gonna

see these guys in the playoffs. What are you telling me? No, I'm just talk No, I'm just telling you that that you know confidence maybe and two and two. If two and two you go, okay, two and two, we'll see you in the playoffs, right, But if you go through one, you say, ah, got it, they might be

better than us or whatever. But it's also a chance because this is late in the year, so it's a chance to get to look at I mean, the teams that they see this weekend are pretty much the teams that they think that they're probably gonna see in another month down the road in the playoffs.

So I think it's an important series from the standpoint of getting to know what you're up against because you know, I mean, I still don't know that the Dodgers can beat the Braves in a in a in a series, you know, and if the Braves come in and whip up on them four you know, all four games, you know, you get you're you'll be thinking about that when the time comes, especially if you split the games, okay, or say one goes three, one one wins three, the other

wins one, but they're all really close games, then you're okay with it. That's what it's about. It's it's not you know, I mean, the Dodgers are so far ahead in their division they're not gonna lose their division orthing like that. By the way, what is it? What do you mean? Oh? I do already forgotten what you talking about this five minutes ago, Steve, I don't know, man. You know what we both need like a like a caddy or something. Yeah, right, yeah,

You know, I thought it was really interesting what Lamont said that he just he just wants to see Arizona just pound an Au, but the running game. Just run the ball, run him over, push him around, you know, basically exert your

your will on him. I thought that was a really straight, that's strange, really interesting approach to what he would like to see. Well, they have the tools to do everything to him. Why the receiver wise, running wise, So we'll see if it happens. You'll see what happens. It's it's just odd, you know. Two years ago, I just remember that night and how bad Jed looked. I'm thinking, oh man, this is not good. He looked like his dog. Well he looked yeah, I

mean he looked sick. I look, we all looked sick though that night. Yeah, you don't. I don't know that that beating the hell out of him will erase that or rub it away. It'll certainly kind of put it for they're back right, that that loss will always stay. So let me ask you. I think you may have said this and I either forgot or whatever. Worst loss that one or the seventies to seventy seventy seven. It's it's close, Steve, It's really close. I mean, you can't

lose fan Au. No, you can't at all. You can can't lose Fanau. Seventy seven was awful. And maybe it's maybe the seventy to seven because Sun Devil fans are such. Both sides are such, Both sides are such, you know, but they are you know. I mean that that will that that'll always be brought up in a bad way. Any you fans. I haven't heard from a single any you fans said, oh, you kick your ass. You don't know. They didn't put up a billboard that

I think about it. I think that the n A U one to me was just just and I have no dog in the fight right right, only because only because it was any U in smaller school. And and you kind of not that you wanted to see the seventy seven because that just helps you get rid of him, Yes, and you needed to get rid of him. That was just like the icing on the key. Yeah. But on the other hand, you know, the lost hand au really what what came of that is an understanding of how bad it got of how bad, uh

Kevin Sumlin left it. I almost don't even blame Jeded Fish for what happened then. Of course, of course you know what happened there. We took took three years under Kevin Sumlin to do And so in that regard it it, uh, it has a different feel to it than the helplessness and just how pissed off your at seventy to seven and I get it a week later, what was it, a week you know they fired him and it was all okay, let's let's go to the flip the page and go to the

next chapter. But I still think that, uh, you know, just the rivalry. Because of the rivalry, it makes that it makes that a little a little tough. Dave didn't take a week. I think it was the next day, because the next there was a game. There was a basketball game the next day. I think he just sent down a memo he's done. We found a way. I think it was a game. It was a basketball game next day, and he says, we're paying him, and don't worry about it. We're paying him. He's gone, he's out

of here. Yeah. In short words, I mean that was kind of the snobs. Yeah, okay, and I moved on. I think he's done. Great, he's got a great situation. Good for Hunley that he's taking care of himself. Rickie. Now, yeah, yeah, I didn't realize, you know, I know I knew he had you know, he had the knee replacement and that was the issue. But he's you know, you can have it. You can have other underlying issues when you have something. Sure. Okay, so yeah, but you know, all the best,

Ricky. And look, you know, if he can, if he if he can still contribute, which is what he wants, yea, then then then great, you know he gets a chance to do that. Yeah, because he has a great voice. You know, he was at the scrimmage the other night and he was getting on them on the sidelines or whatever. He was just kind of he's a presence. Yeah, he's still he's a present. He still is and then there's those big posters of him and

stuff like that. So he's he's around and you know, still still a guy who's you know, can make a difference in the program and is. So you know, again, all the best to Ricky with his with his health and uh and uh, lamont appreciate the time. That was fun, right, yeah, yeah for you, not for me. No, I

think of the world from the month. Obviously he knows that. Okay, anybody else we get about four minutes, anybody want to call five two, four, seventy four forty you're gonna have your Well, we'll talk about this tomorrow. We still might get wardrobe tomorrow. He's trying to figure out some time that we'd get us in a slot. Uh. And you're gonna have

your tailgate on Saturday, right beginning about three. Yes, if you're wrong, you know, if you're walking around the tailgate and uh, you see a bunch of old, gray haired, gray haired dudes sitting on nine on Lucky wish bone. Uh, we'll be there. We usually try and get it and get into that last robe by the Jefferson Gym so we can have some shade and stuff. But you know, look look around and stop by and say, hi, you need to take that thing, the thing we

have on the wall, take the poster with me. We did it. We did it well. We had a couple of times. Okay. The problem is that then I rolled it up and put in my garage and I nearly lost it. Who's gonna's gonna steal that? Don't want two old dudes and the we're a couple of good looking old guys. What was the last time you check your cataracts? I think we looked good at that picture year anniversary, at three anniversary of being here. Yeah, yeah, we've been

about four years together. Oh yeah, No, it's been fun. Don't get don't get fooled by the repost of our of our social media from that day, because when we started here, we only had an hour, and then we got that we got the second hour. Thanks to Steve evern Harden and Nick Brunson, famously known as meat Ball, who have taken care of us over here. We've had a great time. You see that. You see that David has gone to three hours. Now, David Kelly's gone to

three hours. Yeah, I don't, man, I don't know that we were having that's that becomes that becomes worse. Yeah, that becomes work. I wouldn't want three hours. And now you know what, I don't think. I don't think there listeners want three hours from us. No. Well, it's good though, because the podcast is being listened to a lot. Because if you can't listen to it as your way on your way home, we're not around listen to We put it up. I know I was late

with it. I think two nights ago. I got home, I got busy to him, just completely forgot about eleven o'clock at that hole. Really crap. I forgot to put it up. But I told yeah, because you know who it was asking you from. I try to get the way this works if it gets recorded. I got to download it. I get I leave here, I'm about half an hour from home, so I get by the time I get home. Uh, it takes me. It takes me like five minutes to get it up. But it just takes some time

to pull it all together. So it's usually up by six o'clock, maybe six o'clock. I've got to stop of the grocery store, which I have to you tonight. It'll be a little later, but definitely by six thirty every night it's up, and then sometime during the evening, once it's rendered and stuff like that, I'll get it up on our Facebook page and our Twitter Twitter. So I got I ran into somebody at the after the press commerce. I went down to get her credentials and they ran into someone.

You're going to the game tonight or to our Friday, And I'm thinking, what game is? Just kind of a guy who just met Uh, he's an assistant coach at Tucson High. Oh, they faced Marana on Friday. Could be a good game and they are. He saw what Tucson didn't do some of this. I think we created a muster. Boddy say that we're gonna that, we're gonna go. Yeah we will. Yeah, we'll get to some game because we talked to who's the coach, the new coach,

Zach Zach, Zach Zach something. Yeah. But he did he was great, he was They won, they put sixty points on somebody left. Yeah, right, And I thought he says they're pretty good. That's pretty damn good for you know, to come out of the box or something like that. So we might have to do an appearance or two or at the high school levels. Well that that should be another big game that Tucson and Maranna. I'm guessing that game to the Tucson. Hi, yeah it is.

I think Brandon's field is is fixed up yet. But but no, I mean, look, there's the there there's some fun. You know. Look, I support high school footfroll. We try to. I know, maybe we don't get to as many games as we should, but you know what, you get them on the show. We learn to talk about what's going on. You know what we do though, this would be our taste test. We can eat, we can eat the we can eat the food and the tailgates and kind of talk about it. We were to stop, stop,

get a nice job. I have a reason to go to go to these gates. We gotta go get all right, we gotta go. Well we're right back. Breaking news
