Jams they have there on the ball on two Sons Sports station. Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. Hey, welcome back, tying the back here, Fox Swarts fourteen fifty, Young Steve, He's Jay. Now we got a guy, Jason with breaking news. Arizona baseball will play in the Frisco College Baseball Classic in twenty twenty four. What is that? Um, it's like a tournament basically for the Arizona baseball team. They're gonna be playing in it the next year. Friscoe. Yeah, Frisco. Do you think that might be back
where they were playing? Yeah? Oh okay, yeah they played that wasn't the FSCO outside of Dallas? Yeah? But the last year they they played in Dallas at that big at the Rangers. Yeah, tied to this back. Yeah, I wonder I think it is. Yeah, I don't care, Yeah, I think so. Jordan Morgan has been added to the Whirlful Trophy watch list. Said that wrong, But how many trophies are there? Man? Why does Danny Werfell have a trophy? I don't know. I
mean, he was good, didn't you want? You want to ask Florida stood still? I mean, why is there a Danny Werfeld Trophy? I think you answered your own question. Yeah, pretty big deal on man, Well, is there a Reggie Bush trophy or Matt Liner? He doesn't even have his trophy or did they get it back? Didn't win it? Okay, you wush get his trophy back? No, No, that's probably the way he did, just saying answered my question. Okay. Jacob Cowen has
been added to the Paul Hornug Award Watney list Horney Award watch List. What's that a word for? Like Paul Horney was was a running back, right? I thought it was an ahole purpose guy guy, I thought, so, who's ja ja? Yeah? Yeah, Well you didn't play the same digestion that Paul Horney play, did you? Did you talk to County or yea? How was it? I spent my time with with with the Delora. Yeah, no, I did you know? I asked him, I said, you know, oh yeah, you know, what'd you think of
Dorian Singer leaving? He said he did what he did. And you asked about about leaving and coming back, didn't you? Yeah? Yeah, and just that you know, he just felt like he had more to do. And did we say that. I can't remember we talked about it because he's still undersigns. Didn't he's about five. Yeah, but he's got shoulders and things. Oh does he Yeah, I wouldn't know what that means. I know he was. He was wearing a not a tank top, but got
a sleeveless sleeveless shirt he was wearing. He was no, he was wearing a golf shirt. But man, it was pretty. The sleeves were tight. Sleeves were tight. Um. The Paul Horney Award is presented by Texas Roadhouse to the most versatile player in college football. It's done by the Louisville Sports Commission. Paul Horney, who was you know? He was a quarterback in Order Dame. He was a running back in the NFL with those great Green Bay Packer teams of the sixties. Um, Paul Horney. Yeah,
Well he was one that did the commercials. She remember he did said I think that is the quarterbacks to get the girls or something. It's the offensive. It was about that. It was kind of like you know, back in the day when you can say back, you can say stuff like that. He's he's, uh, he's he's in both college and Pro football Hall of Fames. Number five. I remember him with with the with the Packers. So there you go. Okay, we got that nice some national news.
Dianna Trossi from the Phoenix Mercury's only eighteen points away from becoming the first w NBA player to score ten thousand points. That's a lot. Yeah. Yeah, she's been there a long time. Yeah yeah. Um they play against the Atlanta Dream tonight, so you could do it against Aery McDonald's. Yep. So I called her Ari. My son's gonna yell. He yelled at me the other day about that. We're having dinner and I called her Ari to him and he, like I thought he was gonna get up,
get up from the table, come over to smack potatoes. Yeah, I mean he was really mad at me. He was really mad at me. Um. Some history for the Detroit Lions. Um, they have solid out season tickets for the first time since they started playing at Ford Field, sold out o the seas. Yes for these whoa how many tickets is that? Oh? I'm not sure. I was really improsed. There's a lot of buzz for them this year. Yeah. I mean they're a really good team.
I mean they've had a lot of young pieces. The defense should be really really good. Um, you know, I'm so that's shocking to me. Yeah, Jared Goss still the quarterback there, Yeah he is. Okay, yeah, I mean they but they have a lot of really good pieces around him. So yeah, that you should be pretty good. It should be pretty good for the first time in a long time, you know.
But this is just when Detroit becomes Detroit and they're terrible, right when you think they're gonna be so dang good, and then they haven't been good a long time now. But I hope they're good. Buddy of mine, well, Danny, you know, Danny Martinez, his dad, his dad is from Detroit, from Detroit. He's in Detroit, and so it's it's we poke him all the time about it's been about the Detroit team. It's been a long haul for them. Yeah. I hope they're good. Yeah,
it'll make the Thanksgiving the game much better for sure. I love that that. That's probably the only time I really sit on and watch the Lions. Okay, yeah, meet too though. Um the Denver Broncos um linebacker Jonas Griffith I suffered an ACL injury. Um that the team has already lost. Where I received Tim Pastrick for the season with a torn achilles and a rookie corner back Riley Moss for at least a month was a core muscle injury. It's because it's because Sean Payton ripped on one. Yeah, I mean,
karma man with these Bronco players goes around comes right. Fortunately I did see. I only saw like a graphic on this though. Where Nathaniel Hackett, I guess, in a press conference because he's an assistant coach with the Jets, in a press conference, said that Sean Payton's comments has brought their team. Oh I'm sure. Yeah, I'm sure, you know, scoreboard material
or whatever. Keep my kid. Coaches and a lot of people have said, you know, Peyton was way out of line saying that if you want to believe that, fine, but you can't go out and say that stuff publicly. You really can't. Yeah. Okay, Well that's all the breaking is off for today. Not too much going on, not well, not outside of side talking about it. I mean, that's for sure. It's kind of hogging all the news. Yeah, definitely, right, But anything
else we don't talk about. Here's something for that for that. Take that that that somebody and I know why I'm giving this guy so much attention, I'm not even gonna say, and I'd have to go back and look it up anyways, But the guy who said that the Big twelve was going after
Arizona because they really wanted a SCU. So somebody posted all time records in uh in football, Arizona leads fifty forty five and one, basketball Arizona one fifty nine and eighty seven, baseball Arizona two sixty one, two twenty seven, softball ninety nine and fifty three, volleyball fifty nine and forty seven, and then and then only women's basketball ASCU is sixty three and thirty nine. So who's got the better program? Long? No, No, we talked.
We talked about this, so we did. Remember four months ago we talked about this. Who had the better program overall? And Arizona had it pretty much. Let me ask you, though, because I wasn't here during this time in the eighties, what football and Arizona has it? Yeah? Okay, So how how was it living through the streak of getting beat? How sucked? Steve? No, no, no, okay, could you
elaborate please? It sucked and it made me hate the game and I still hate the game, even though Arizona has has had the better of it since like the last whatever forty years or whatever, you know, since since Larry Smith got here. I hated it as a little kid. I mean as a six year old, I hated the game because Arizona just always got and it's just I thought it was that's the way it was supposed to be.
And you know, we talked about Jim Young the year that they beat him in nineteen seventies four, ninety seventy four and broke a streak of you know, of losses, and I, you know, I'd rushed the field, and you know, I was in high school and I and that, you know, even going through elementary school, middle school, and high school. That streak was awful because they because they not only would win the game,
they would kick Arizona as an ass every time. Even Jim Young's first year, Arizona goes into that game eight and two, eight and two and they lose fifty five to ten, saying similar record, and they lose Asu fifty five to I think it was fifty five to ten or something like that. But that goes to show you of the rivalry, how crazy it is. I know, how many times? So they won when they were not expected
to win. Yeah, I mean when Arizona, when Arizona bt Asu in in nineteen eighty two, they are you know, they were in the Pac twelve or Pac ten ACU need to win that game to go to the Rose Bowl. They come to they come to Tucson, Arizona beats something. We were bad people to the su fans. We were just really bad to them. I don't regret anything should but we were. We were really really bad to them. Did you did you do what the Douay students do now?
In the to UCLA we were we were adults and we were bad. We were mean to them. And this is nineteen Well the words that were probably us. We were so we were so mean to them. Uh. And then from that point on, you know, and then you know then after you know, when when that when the U of a streak ended, and then it became more of a back and forth kind of thing. It got to the point where I, like I've said a bunch of times, I will not go watch an Arizona game up at it up at Sun Devils.
Well, you know, there's your Carbo. Yeah, I'm sure there's your car because you know, I mean, so many bad things have happened, and it's just like, you know, we leave the state when they're playing, when they're playing up in ten to Vegas, so um, and I hate the game here and and you know, but no, it was awful, Steve, because you just felt like that's the way things were supposed to be a sus You're supposed to get to the end of the season and ASC
was supposed to kick your and they often did, and they always I hated it. Um. The NFL is back tonight, Yes, Hall of Fames tonight. Yeah, the Jets and the Jets Browns, Browns. Yeah. I don't think Aaron Rodgers gonna play though at all. He did, didn't. They say they're not gonna plaim at all. He might play like at the final preseason games, like a snap or something, but he'll probably won't be getting much playtime then I don't think. I kind of saw that he's
not even gonna dressed to that. Yeah, he won't dress tonight. I got a call. Ye take it, you're on the Aaron E on the ball? Hello, Hello, no call so dials. I thought I was gonna yeah, yeah, So like I was saying, Zach Wilson's gonna be starting for the Jets tonight. And I also his birthday. He's twenty four today. He just turned twenty four. Yeah in the NFL. Yeah, I'm twenty one. You know, three years. You got three years to
work on it. Yeah, that's some time, you got some Yeah so but yeah, so I'm you know, check out the game, see what's going on. Um, just because you know, let's try again. Hi, you're on the air and eye on the ball. Hey, sorry about that. That's okay, Jay? Did you look up but that any warful trophies about? Uh? No, I did not. You know, I don't. Oh okay, then that's good. All right. Don't you feel like a heel? I do? I absolutely do this every day. Who's
this? Who's this? Who's this? I absolutely do? Okay, I'm I'm a butt couple of times. I'm I'm a big Duck fan. Okay, okay, okay, you're a Duck fan. Duct in any trouble whatsoever, They're going to the Big ten. Right. Are you happy about that? No? Not really. I never wanted to pactice. Yeah okay, but okay, let's let's let me ask it this way, assuming the Pact twelve is going to break up, Let's say the four quarter schools go to the Big twelve and so the oregan has no choice. Are you okay with
the Big ten? Oh? Yeah, I don't. I don't think it's cute. I don't think you're could have gone any worse far as what converence they would have gone to, right right? Yeah? No, I mean yeah, I mean they gotta do what they gotta do. Okay, well, yeah, it's become appreciation. What do you feel like? Yeah? Here, okay, here it is. I looked it up here it is. Steve Rivera and Jakin Salez they have their eye on the ball on two sums Sports six jef Fox Sports fourteen fifty streaming live. I mean I heard radio wap Hey, welcome back
to on on the ball hero Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, He's Jakin's ass. Now on the phone, we have Jim Moore from Kave Jr. Sell Sports Jim, how are you? You're tough to find you? And Sasquat in the Great Northwest? How teams come on? How am I tough to find? You? Know? I haven't heard from you in years. You know, we're like three old sports writers here on the radio. Imagine where we go? Did eventually to find a job exactly? Exactly?
Yeah, I've been doing sports radio in Seattle for I don't know, like twelve years now. I got fired from one station a couple of years ago, and I ended up across the street at another and doing a ten to one show. And yeah, really having a good time up here. Yeah, that's a lot of fun. No good to hear from you. We want to talk about Washington Athletics. What do you here? What do you know about them going to the big Big ten? Well, probably as
much as you guys have heard down there. I think we're all waiting on what's going on with this meeting in Arizona tonight. And it was interesting because the timing of a meeting that the Washington Border Regents is right after Arizona is having their meeting at six o'clock. There's just a schedule meeting tonight at nine o'clock here in Seattle. I think it's a zoom meeting and we'll find out more of them. But it sure seems like, you know, all the
dominoes are falling once Arizona figures out what they're gonna do. And then does that mean that Arizona and Ashue go to the Big twelve? Does that mean Utah goes as well? Or does it mean that Arizona maybe he's going to stay in the Pac twelve which will survive. And I'm yeah, I'm a Washington State guy, went to school over in Pullman, and so I'm in alam and so it seems like it seems like there's no room at the table
for us, and I'm not happy about it. What's been the have you gotten a sense of the feel of the well, first, the Washington fans in terms of what they wanted to do, what they were hoping for out of all of this, well, I think, you know, we talked to John Kanzano every week, John Kanzano, the long time columnists there in Portland, and you know, he talks about how that college football playoff that one of the things with Oregon and Washington why they want to stay is that
it's it's their ticket once it's the twelve team playoff to getting into that playoff if they were to win the Pac twelve and so he thinks that that's something that they'd want to hang on to. But now with the fiasco that George Kliofkoff has caused by waiting so long for the media rights deal, it appears that that maybe they're going to be Big ten bound. But the latest that we've heard is that Washington's waiting to hear what Oregon wants to do. It
all hint is kind of on Oregon. There's all these little different things that you keep hearing, and Steve, it's kind of tough as as a reporter trying to figure out who's telling you the truth and who's not. It feels like a lot of people are lying when it comes to this. Yeah, No, we've talked about that as well. Right, Jay, where where it's who you believe in, how much are telling you were not telling you?
And we've been through it as reporters in the past. It's funny you talk about the Polosa and wsum them Oregon State cal are kind of like afterthoughts, what are they gonna do become the Mountain West? I guess you know, I went through I went through a period where I was thinking, oh, no, we're gonna leave the the Pac twelve is going to disintegrate. What's that going to do for the coops? Where are they gone? Where the Beaver's gone? Uh, Stanford Cow. I don't know about them.
But yeah, I think we're gonna be the odd man out. We'll probably end up in the Mountain West. But there's there's still a possibility this all could come together too well. Yeah, yeah, you hope. I mean, I you know, we were talking about this earlier. I mean, I really wish none of this was happening. I'm you know, I'm a PAC twelve guy born in Tucson, you know, came out of the whack
and into the pack and we love that. Um and I'm really unhappy with this, but kind of like in the end, you just want your school whether it's Washington State, Washington whoever, to end up in the best possible place. And I think I'm just kind of resigned to the fact that the Big twelve is were is the best possible place for Ari zone at this point. Yeah, you know, I know you're right about that, but it just sucksly sucks. I just I just okay. I'm sixty six years old.
I grew up with the Pac eight, the Pac ten, the Pac twelve, and I love our conference. I love Pac twelve basketball, I love Pac twelve football. Saturday afternoon, I don't want to see the damn SEC. I know it's a better quality of football than our our football. I don't want to watch the Big ten game at nine in the morning here in Seattle. I don't care about you know, Michigan and Iowa. And it's just boring to me. It's just the whole thing about being about money.
It's just money, money, money, everything's money, money, money. And you know, I mean people probably say, well, you'd probably take a drop somewhere else if they offered more money. I yeah, I'd be a hypocrite, maybe I would, But I just the whole thing. It just bothers me. It just bothers me that this is gonna crumble, and we're well, we're gonna find out tonight or tomorrow what's gonna happen here. I hope that Arizona will stick around, but I think you're right about
that. I think they're they're bound for the Big twelve. So you've been in Seattle for a long time, and we talk about this. Bigger markets like Seattle, Phoenix, LA, no one really cares about the colleges. I think maybe in Saddle they do more than than in a SU and in UCLA in LA. Where does Washington stand in the hierarchy of the sports world. I'm assuming Seattle the Seahawks are number one, and then everybody else falls
into place. Well, you know, it's kind of funny because you know when I when I was a kid, it was Washington Huskies football for the most part, that's all we had. We didn't have any we didn't have an NBA team for once too. It was the late sixties, and then you got the Mariners in the seventies. I mean, hockey came in just recently. So yeah, I mean, when you look at it, I think most sports fans, at least what they tell us in sports radio is
to pound on the Seahawks and Mariners. And I mean there's a big, big number of fans here that follow up the Washington Huskies, but not as many as followed the Seahawks and Mariners. But there's especially a lot of interest this year though, because the Husky's got the heck of the team coming back and they've got a shot at being in that college football playoffs. Yeah. No, that's well, that's the thing. I mean, you know, Steve and I went, you know, when we were covering the team.
You'd go to Washington game and there were seventy plus thousand people there, great places, right and it was and it was like that at a su and then the Cardinals showed up and then you know, we've seen what's happened in La. Mean, we saw pictures of UCLA games. Last there was a UCLA game we us a bowling green and there were like four thousand people there.
I mean, you know, we've talked about how these you know, the Pact twelve schools being in big cities has hurt more than health because while they're in a big TV market, the TV market is so split, well it is it is you know, and really this is a Seahawks town. Um. Yeah, the Mariners. There's a lot of skepticism about the Mariners. They're the only major league team that's never been to the World Series.
People are up in arms about Jerry Depoto, a general manager, not doing enough at the aiding deadline, even though they're in the playoff on the wild card race anyway. But yeah, I'm with you on that. I mean, I used to go to Husky games as a kid, and you just when you went, you expected it to be sold out. But there doesn't seem there's still a lot of interest, but not as much as they're used
to be. Yeah. Yeah, so it keeps it keeps your life busy on this on the sports show though, I'm sure it's one of the big topics. Oh, the guy I worked with, he's a WSU alum too, and uh so we're we're talking about it every day. I mean, we talked about the Mariners today too, but I mean most of the focus was on what's going on. And as you guys know, you know, Twitter X or whatever the hell they they're calling it down. I mean,
there's just something new. There's another reporter reporting something new. It seems like every half hour today, and so you just you try and keep up with it, and I, I mean, we're powerless to do anything about it. I you know, you guys are talking about it might be the best bet for Arizona to go of the Big twelve, and I think you're probably
right about that. But there's just there's this part of me that's just kind of going, come on, guys, let's just all let's look out for each other here, and let's you know, Arizona, Okay, Yeah, you can make you thirty one million or whatever it is if you go to the Big twelve. But why don't you, you know, just just hang
around for a while here. Maybe the Apple deal won't be that great in the beginning, but that streaming seems to be where it's at and it's the future for sure, and maybe down the road, if you stick around, you'll end up making as much, if not more than what the Big twelve seams are getting. Yeah, well maybe maybe Jim Moore, you might get a raise next year. Maybe you guys get raised down there. So let me kind of tell jaff story here, and you're gonna have to help me
with it. So Jim is one of those cranky guys in Seattle, you know, work with the Seattle Post. Intelligent once of my one of my great guys. Back in the day. Um So, Arizona plays plays Wisconsin in Utah and gets beat. You remember there were the number one team in the country at the time. Two thousand. Arizona gets beat by Wisconsin and Jim Moore is the you know, the reporter out there, goes into the press conference and asked Lute, like, what are the first questions? What
was you would you ask? Lut I know what you asked him. I'm asking you, Well, I actually, Steve, you know what I was. I was in the tunnel before in the game, and I heard some of the players talking about the next game that they were going to play after they beat Wisconsin, and I can't remember who it was, Richard Jeffers, somebody Richard. I heard him talking about that and I thought it was written.
Then they end up losing to Wisconsin, so they never got to that next game, and I think I asked him something about, you know, your team complacent and looking ahead. I don't know, you Maybe it can refresh my memory because I've I've gotten into it with a few coaches over the years, but I remember Lute being in my face and I thought, got Luke Alsen's right in my face here, and I'm sorry, coach, but this is what I heard. I'm not trying to be a jerk here.
I know it was Richard Jefferson said you ran into the into the hallway, and then yeah, he was that was one of your first questions to him, and yeah, he was all over you. We've all had one of those, Steve and I had. He came up to he came up to me and he grabbed my credential. He just looked at my credential. He
goes, how'd you get in here? How you getting me? And you know, looking back on it, I understand why he was upset, because, I mean, his team just lost and they were they were out um, but it just seemed like a fair question to ask hive and that, you know what Jefferson had said in the tunnel, It was I just happened to hear it when I was walking by him. I wasn't just standing there with my ear, you know, like I wonder if Jefferson's gonna say something.
I'm just kind of walking by and I heard that Welcome to the club man. We all had one of those with or maybe a couple of those with Luke. I know, Steve did, I did, and pretty much everybody did. Do you miss do you miss those days? You know? Uh? I No. I was a sports writer for thirty years, and it's kind of funny. I never in a million years so i'd been doing
sports radio. But I've enjoyed it. I've had a good time. I was hoping to retire at the Post Intelligence or if at the paper went out of business, and I think it was O nine and so I was in my early fifties trying to figure out what to do and got lucky that they opened or they started a new sports station in town. And I've been doing it ever since. Well, it's funny, Jay, Jim, and I'll always remember. This was one of the first guys to call me after the
Citizen closed, about the same time the PI close. He said, Steve, don't worry, things will fall into place. She'll be okay. And let me tell you, Jim, you lied to me. You lied to me. It took a year for that to happen. No, I can I can relate to that. Well, that's what you say was somebodys job. I mean, I had a bunch of people tell me that you're okay, you're gonna land on your feet. You really did at what you do. And and you know, like I thought, well, maybe my phone
will start ringing, maybe my inbox will fill up. None of the above happened. That's just so it is. After I got fired from the from seven ten yes in Seattle, I unjustifiably, I might add, But anyway, I did get fired. Um, I was see eleven months looking around for a job, and I figured, well, who the hell's gonna hire me? I'm sixty three years old. You know, it gets tougher issue actually get older in this business. Well we'll see. I was the opposite.
I did have. The thing happened right away, and it was because of Steve. I got. I was the president of the local uh Indoor Football League team, and I got laid off, you know, with the COVID season, and literally literally that night, Steve calls me and says, hey, you want to do a radio show together. And I'm like, okay, yeah, I know, but you said, how did you how did you? What did you call me? And says, well, just because and I didn't know. He didn't, Yes, Steve didn't know.
And two weeks later we were on the air. Oh that's awesome, that's awesome. You know, we kind of look out for each other and that. Yeah, to bring it back to the Pack twelve, that's kind of what I hope the schools will be doing too. It seems like everybody's looking out for themselves. Yeah, and that's not the way we were raised, wasn't. I mean, let's look out for each other a little bit here and um yeah, now I'm happy to hear that. You guys sound like
you know what you're doing. I mean, I'm I always tell people I go, you know what, I'm a sportswriter who happens to be on the radio. And Steve, you're doing a great job here. Like whenever I have to lead the show and the lead guy is on vacation, God, I just like, I'm up before. Oh it's hard, it's hard stuff, true stuff. Yeah, it's hard that I'm with you. I'm I'm that guy. It's it is hard with Steve goes and but but it's not work, guys, right, it's not work. We're just having fun,
we are. Yeah, it's not working. The station I'm at now. When I screw up, it's almost like, hey, that was pretty funny how you screwed up. Good, good to hear your voice, Jim. Don't don't piss anybody off, please, at least not tomorrow. Hey, you know what, it was a nice surprise hearing from you today. Yeah, no, I said, I gotta get Jim on. He'll be fun, and I gotta remember that story from back. And that's too good. That's too good. I appreciate you bringing that up. Well you're alive,
you're good, Thank you, and then thanks so much. Good to talk to you. Yeah, take care of you, guys. Take care. Yeah, I didn't know he was sixty to six. Yeah, we've we've been along a long time. You know, he's thinking he's one of us. Right, it does exactly like one of us. You know, guys. We loved what we were doing, and then the way that, the way the tables turned, you had to figure something out. And there he is that he's doing. We're doing. It's a reinvention. I'll be in

This is I on the Ball with Steve Barbera and Jay Getzals on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Hey, welcome back to li on about here Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, Pee, Jake, and I got a guy Jason with us today. I have a quick thing for you Jake and Jason.
Um. So I'm on. I have someone a friend of mine who texts me a lot about a lot of different things, and she's always on on Facebook and done a lot of stuff and she do we? And she talked about why wasn't the Arizona not going to the Big ten? Right? Is it a better deal going? I said, no, dude, were never invited to put the You can't go somewhere with the rein how to buy it? And she sits up, well, Cal, Stamford and um and watching the organ, we're gonna go, do they? Does Stamford and Cal
have a bigger name? Bigger Brandon as well? Washington has a bigger name? What we're gonna we know? Dude does? And so to Stanford and she says Stanford has a bigger and I said, so, I'm asking you, does Stanford have a bigger brand name than Arizona. I think they do.
I do too, And she was a little surprised, and I said, they win the Cup every year and they went and they went to the Roseball but three times and uh, you know, in like the last you know, under David at least two or three at least twice and maybe three times Andrew Luck came out of there. No, they do have in terms of an athletic brand. Yes, Stafford's a bigger brand. I don't even
think it's close. No, I don't think it is close either. I mean, you know Arizona's basketball team, yes, but everything else Stanford exactly all we have his basketball he just said jay On. On a national level, I think Stanford like they have a bigger everything, like you know, football, football, baseball. They've won a bunch of national championships and baseball, and they still might be left out in the Big ten. Big twould
be surprised if Kellen Stanford both go to the Big Yeah. I think they're just gonna take the two. It's like Cal being the little brother and well, you come on alone. You know you gotta come. But they're they're cow is the one that's in the tough Yes, Cal Washington State in Organs. Yeah, Hi, you're on the R and I on the ball. Yes, this is Nico Man. What's up, Nico? Hey Man,
just cooling. You were wondering about you a couple of days ago. I'm alive, man, I got a girlfriend, so I can't be given all my time. I just fell off my chair. Wait a minute, hell long. You couldn't have had this girlfriend for very long, so she can't really be a girlfriend yet, can't she? Man? We were having an on enough thing for a couple of months, I decided, Hey, you know what, you can date Nico for a while. You're talking to the third person exactly. So what's up, Nico? Yeah, I want to
talk about this realignment. Go ahead, go ahead, where you got I hate it? I hate it too. This Apple deal might be better than we think. Man, you think so well? You'd like to think that they've got people smart enough to figure that out, right, I mean, if it's a better deal, they'll stay with it, don't you think.
Well, let me just say this, say like, if you want to watch Pack twelve on Apple TV, you gotta pay like fifty bucks like Sunday ticket or whatever, you know, And how many people are gonna do that? Nko, I'd do it. It's not it's not fifty dollars, but it's not gonna be that. I think are currently an Apple TV subscription to seven bucks a month. I'm sure that they're going to raise the price. If they're gonna go out and get you know, these sports and stuff like
that. It might be twenty eighteen, fifteen, whatever, And then you do want to get it for a few months, right, because it's all you need it for maybe maybe nine months? No, Well, no, if you want to see basketball, I mean, you'll pay for it. I'll pay for it. I'll pay for it twice. But my grandpa could watch it. Yeah, but times that buy a million, whatever number you
want to put there. I just have my doubts about about the number of people the fans in this part of the country well, and how much they really care. Obviously the president's dude too. You know, I don't have confidence in in the fans in this part of the country are really doing that Nico and he sounds like an old man. I am, you know, I know, I know our fans here and I've said it. You've heard me Samuel on times. I hate our fans because they're they're just they're they're
entitled. But then when it comes to putting up or shutting up, they don't put up. The shut up. Yeah, they look at you. They like that. But I appreciate the fact that you would pay for a Nico not paid for not pap. Yeah, were you working on now you've got a job, man, I'm still making some faces. Man, Okay, you want to make sure you're happy. You got a girl, got a job, girlfriend, you got a job, you got all going on I'm gonna quit that yob soon. That's what you do, man, that's
what you do. Yeah, we're gonna see you at a tailgate this year. I don't know. You tailgate around my family and they kind of like blacklisted me. Well you can come and hang with us. You could be getting Benzalis. Man. We don't. We don't blacklist anybody. Hey man, they were just mad. I was having too good of a time here. Okay, stay out of trouble. Thanks, thank you. Got our guys? Where's your fat? Mike Casson called in a while called game called
yesterday our guy, um the cusser or go what's the day? A good guy? He had to bleep him out a couple of times, Howard while Yeah, he's he took a trip. He took a trip, and he's he's off the radar for a while. Okay, but you know, anybody want to call please do five two, four, one, six, seventy four forty. We'd like to go ten minutes, so we got time right again. If you if you miss any part of the show today or another day, go back and find us on the podcast. I would think this
J two. Anybody over forty five hates it any but he under thirty five. Well, or they're saying, you know, okay, it's it's just the next thing. But here's here's the realization we had last night' we're having dinner at my house. My my son Adam is over with his with his kid, with the whole you know, my whole family except for my wife is out out of the country carousing. Um and you know, my my, my, my guy, my my grandson is seven months old, about to be able. We gonna give me opion. No, we had the
realization that he's never gonna know what the PAC twelve ever was. He's not he might not even know that it existed because it's gonna be gone. It's not like you know us growing up, but there was a PAC eight that began the pack tam in the PAC twelve. It's gonna be gone. And he's he's probably not ever gonna know what was the you know what what is this thing that was called the PAC twelve? What was that? Yeah? And that was kind of a try to tear to my eye, Oh you
feel softy year tears, soft to get tears. Everything always comes in the end, you know, so right, look at you, but this is one year old. This is one hundred year old. Pun No, it's it's the granddaddy of them all or whatever. Yeah, it's uh, I mean with the history that it has with with you know, UCLA and all, it's national basketball championships, John Wooden and well the Rose Bowl. Well, I'm about to make myself who's the biggest cheerleader? Yeah, Bill Walton,
what's gonna happen? Yeah, there's a lot of people out there saying this is not such a bad thing that Bill Walton is not going to be, you know, doing a game back twelve games, conference of champion games every night. But well, I don't know what that. I like Bill, We like Bill. Yeah, we'll see. I mean, today's what's theay the third third, Ahugust third, twenty twenty three might be the day maybe tomorrow where we say, uh, Sainara one more year though we got
on, Well, there's gonna be another year of sports. But it's gonna be it's gonna be kind of a downer year though, right. I mean people, you know, people are gonna be kind of the conversation is gonna a lot of the conversation is gonna be, you know about the last ye sure, of course. You know, well you're gonna na I'm not sure we yet, but you're gonna be going to right see USC California. I might go along, we do the show from there, but um, but
you know you're going for a reason because it's the last one. Yeah, well we were gonna we'd already decided we're gonna go. But yeah, because we tried to go to that game every year. Now, we didn't go to the We didn't go to Usela last year because we were in on our Vegas trip, but we probably would have gone to that game, although we did go to the San Diego State game. We love taking those road trips
to southern California. And that's in the end, Steve, like, those are the thing that's what I'm gonna miss most about all of this is whether or not we take the trip, but just the opportunity to take a to take a football road trip. Because he had so much fun on those trips. You might have to revisit your ASU trip. No that No, that's not going to change. I never considered that a road trip. I considered that driving to another glass of almost as if I was going to Arizona.
Stadium. I didn't feel like we don't even consider that when a road trip a road trip, you know, you jump in a car and take a bunch of people. You know, you go to a usc UCLA. We did a Colorado trip we went to We went to the Colorado game in Mike Stoops last year. It was a horrible game. They remember, they got their asses kicked. But we had fun on the trip. It's a beautiful
place too. Yeah, we had a blast on the trip. Um. You know when I was cutting the years that I was covering another team, you know my group, the group that I hang with, they went to the Oklahoma game that we went to. They went to the Texas Tech game. I mean, they took those trips that we would take those. In fact, the Texas Tech game it was underrated in this If you remember that Friday night, what do we do? We went to went to that steakhouse.
Oh man, I still think about that steak. My steak had like this, like this sauce on it and peppercorns, and I still remember that. It was a good old ranch place. They just fed up thirty five years ago. Well, they did exactly to us what the team did to Arizona lulled them to sleep and beat the crap out of a living hell out. Yeah, but you know, and that's that's what I'm gonna miss.
I mean, thinking about this group that I hang with. We we've been we've been on road trips to Seattle, you know, as a group to Seattle, Washington State. I never went on they some of them went to Oregon, but I did not. We went to Oregon State. We went to Stanford and cal a bunch of times. Um, you know, and your jay, this is the fall This is the fallout from it all. This is the fallout from it all. There will be no more Vegas trips
fall my my gig and at the Pac twelve tournament. Yeah, well it's that what you say, It all comes to any less of course, less of course. And someone said this to me today, TJ. Because he's a sports guy, East Coast guy. Maybe they moved something to Phoenix, where Phoenix is the place to a destination place where if a issues involved in the they move some of the stuff to Phoenix. Yeah, well I could
see it's used to as part of the Big twelve or whatever. Still hosting what they host, still hosting final fours and regionals and stuff like that. But you know, the losing, losing Vegas man, the packed off tournament, that's the biggest false. This one coming up next year. It could be my last one, and we're pretty bummed about that. That one hit us a couple of days ago, were like, guess what, guys, if this happens, this is our last tournament in Vegas. You know,
my my buddy. I got a buddy, uh, Gunny Mike who's one of the he's a camera guy, so he works a lot, but he's always at the pack twelf tournament. You just basic, it's been a nice run, you know, has been Yeah, it's like the paper closing, like, you know, just stuff happens. Yeah, it's been it's been a great run. But it's uh, I'm I'm afraid that. Let me let me ask you. This just just our top of the head. Oh, let's just say tonight they say let's stay in the pack. Twelve chances
of that happening five two? No, I think if they stayed there, if they say they're staying, I think Washington and Oregon to staying. If Arizona in the SU say they're staying, everybody's staying and they're gonna sullhow make a go with this is there? I think there's like a five percent chance of that, you know. I mean, if they've run the numbers and feel like it can work. I don't think anybody's in a hurry to get
to the big twelve Steve. I think they're they're they're in her if they're in a her to get to the big twelvets because they feel like they have to. But if they don't feel like they have to, then they're not gonna go. Well, there's only one thing that's gonna change it, and it's that money. Yeah, only one thing, and and and as far as we know, it's not there for what we know of it. I have a hard time believing that they think that it's the best thing to do
for the long term health of the school, of the program. And you put the thing is the long term health is another five years, because like you said, five years is gonna it's gonna change again. And Steven, maybe that maybe they say, okay, we can we can withstand this for five years. The twenty minu or twenty little Okay, we'll do this for five years because we know it's all gonna churn again, you know, in another five years. Maybe maybe you've always have hope. Yeah, there's a
little bit I don't I don't think so. Yeah, nobody thinks so. But um, maybe they say, Okay, we'll do this for five years. Then get everybody on board, you know, talk to the other schools or whatever, and everybody gets somewhere say okay, let's let's you know, let's do this. Let's go get San Diego State and uh SMU and another one, UNLVA, Colorado State, whoever, Let's go do this for five years, maybe get a team in the in the College Football Playoff every year
and and go with it. Well, if they do jump, look at how the West is gonna look. You probably won't even be watching any games. You probably won't be impressed. What's left right? What's left right? And that's and that's the thing. I mean. You think, Okay, Apple TV, you're gonna want people to pay money to see Sandeo State play SMU. He's gonna do that, Oregon State, Washington State. Right, you're not gonna get that. You're not gonna get to U C, l
A and USC were we're the draws. And I agree with that. I don't see how they do it. But we're sitting here giving some wishful thank you. I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, what's you gotta wait and see. Okay, hey, good show today. This is fun. Jim Moore, that was great. He was He was a lot of fun. Dennis Dodd, national guy. Yeah, I'm going on a formative. Who we have tomorrow? You said we have a couple. Yeah, we got Jake Fisher. Okay, well he'll weigh in on whatever happens tonight.
And then Damian Alameda, sports director at k LD. It's been a long time since we've had him on. Always a great guy. Uh, always fun to have him on. So those will be your guest tomorrow. We'll see how this thing is shaking out by you know, by the timer show comes on tomorrow. I have a good idea. What's up? Ye? Okay, thanks everybody, Thanks for being here. Everybody listen to the podcast.
