was released today and we're going to Duke. That is early in the year, I think our actual real first game. We go to Duke. We host Belmont neutral floor against Michigan State and tom Izzo. We're home against Colgate who Colgate in the last couple of years have been a pretty good basketball team,
so that would be fun. We are home against Wisconsin and the Badgers will come to town a neutral floor in Nah I want to say Vegas, and we Goannapolis, Indianapolis Bama again neutral but it's in Phoenix, so hopefully we can get some Tucson faithful out there in FAU in Vegas Final four FAU it's a great schedule. I love this schedule. It's fans who have spent a lot of money to see Arizona play get their money's worth this year. Right, you got he said, you got Wisconsin coming here. That's gonna
be fun because there's a lot of bigger fans about Wisconsin. Oh yeah, that's gonna be like a rivalry. It is. But you're not getting even with them ever, never, never, No, you're not. You're not. But fans will take a little bit of but you know, I you know then, I mean they close out the non conference season with three straight neutral side games Perdue, Alabama, Florid Atlantic. they'll go. Yeah, the people who live up here and the people who don't get to go here, we'll go. And not to mention, Duke is coming to the McHale Center next year next year. Well, two games series. Again, we've been talking a lot. You have a football Just want to highlight the guys down in Tempe. ASU lost twenty nine zero at home against Fresno State. It's the first time they've been shut out at home since nineteen eighty eight. And well, yeah, they killed all their quarterbacks.
Did you see that? Yeah? Because okay, what trandonbourg Gay did not start because he was It started, but he got hurt. Jaden Rashada was hurt, so he didn't play. Tradonbourg Gay started, he got hurt. Then the third string quarterback got hurt, so they played. They basically played their fourth stream quarterback most of the game. And you got no. But they got to go to USC next week or the USC. They've got USC this week and they're down to the fourth streing quarterback. So how bad
was the brigade injury? I didn't not know because he was out. I knew he was starting, Yeah, I didn't know how long he lasted. Both of them had leg injuries. So they were doing MRIs and stuff, So I don't know. That might be this is I don't even know if I should say it. That might be a bigger rebuild than what Jed is going through. It's brutal. Well, I'd love to see he's going to beat him seventy seven to seven. Wouldn't do wouldn't you? Would you?
Vision's possible because that would erase the other way, Yes, would and you can see no kiddy for the pair, whatever the thing is. But that was bad twenty nine to nothing. Florida State going to Clemson Boulder, like we talked about, going to Oregon, UCLA at utah Ole, Miss at Bama, Oregon State at Washington State, Iowa at Penn State, and then the last game to wrap it up Ohio State at you guys have a favorite one
or you know it's funny. I like, I think the two pac game Washington State Oregon State will be fun, right, But that's of interest to us over here. It's not like the national interests that say the Ohio State and Order Dame game is gonna have the some of the juice got taken out. I think of the Colorado Oregon game because of Travis Hunters injury. I know that's one of your things coming up. But did you see did you see the hit on that? Yeah? Did you see what? He's got
a lacerated liver? They Yeah, yeah, it was I'm thinking his lean was just gone and whatever. It was a tough hit obectually, did you see the guys getting there. We're gonna talk about it. We can talk about it. The kid who hit him is now getting death threats. Doesn't doesn't shock me. But that's not right, you know. But you know, look, was it a dirty hit? Yeah? I think you'd labeled it dirty. You know, he didn't have to hit him. It was
out of bounds. He threw his shoulder hit him. And now he didn't spear him, he didn't go in with the helmed. He hit him with the shoulder, but he hit him on the side, you know. And I saw the hit and I think he's gonna lose a spleen or a kidney or something. And it turned out he last rated. He's liver. They're saying only two to three weeks. I'm like, I've got a last rated liver. I'm not playing anymore ever again in the history of my life. Okay, so someone we're gat a cl mcl no out for the air.
I looked that up, Paul, possibly possibly thanks for my text. Thank you, But like you mentioned, Travis Hunter obviously not gonna view playing football any time soon. But Colorado still seems to be the center of the college football you know, it will be, and it has to be until they lose. I don't know if you guys saw the scenes and Boulder this weekend. Obviously every single sports show is there, Little Wayne you had Kawhi Leonard. Yeah, some people think I look we look like really I kind of
you know, I've been thinking that. I've been wanting to say that to you for a long time. Calling me the pebble, but I think more like a dirt is a cup of mud. Is Colorado gonna remain to be that way until they start to get pummeled. You think it's gonna be if you haven't learned anything yet Sammy about media, they'll follow you and follow you until you can't you know, you can't follow you anymore because they'll latch on
until until you're no longer good for them. Here's the thing is that you know, you lose a guy like Travis Hunter, you know what I mean, you lost two starters. You didn't lose one starter, you know, And that's tough. And you know, and look with all the depth and all the people that that that uh that brought he brought in, they're thin, right because you don't know you don't play something either, right, You don't know that the next guy up, how good that guy is gonna be.
Now, maybe the next guy up is pretty good, but you know, you lose a guy like that, and you know he's he's more than just a you know, a two way starter, he's also one you know, kind of the heart of the team. So that's that's gonna be tough for them to come on and they're like a eighteen point underdog to Oregon twenty Now. But isn't that what don't you think of your color out of your coach prime? That's right where you want to be. Sure. Of course
he'll use that, sure, no doubt. My My problem with all that is uh. And maybe it's not him, it's it's the media who are giving him reasons to use stuff. Does that make sense? Now? He can use that and he's gonna probably go to the landing. Uh. Stuff that Colorado's never want anything? And he said this months ago. I'm I'm with that just because my whole life, if I've dressed well, it's for a special occasion, if I go out, and I'll use organ for example, when they had those run they still might have the best uniforms in college football. They were more often one of the better teams in the game, so they still have the same
uniforms. I'm not any good. My point is you put a I don't know what kind of shirt you're wearing. Not you put us something that's a little less. You're going to the golf court. You have some shoes, shirts that you know, or shorts, you know, this kind of casual. You're just the same golfer. You're still the same dude. Yeah, it's a metal thing. That's that's it. That's what I'm saying. No, no, no, But we talked about this because we got it.
You got you fill on my side. After a while you were playing softball. You ain't. I got no uniform, Jay, You're just gonna still hit the double down the right line. You don't have to be wearing a uniform, I know, but there's still those those those Chargers look good in that those uniforms. They're zero with two. That's true. Justin spears about that today. You know what I'm saying. I know what you mean. But like I think, if I'm if I'm it depends where I'm golfing.
It depends where I'm going. But if if you're playing football or basketball, whatever, you put on your uniform with pride. Sure you wear it with right. You wear it right. You look, you know the strikes line up and all that stuff. You feel better about yourself when you walk on the field. I'm gonna feel better about myself. I see where he's coming from. You should have you should have pride. Don't matter. I've seen a lot of good lookie teams get their ass kicked. It means nothing,
and the Chargers were one of those teams. On the Sunday two weeks in a rule. But also speaking of Sunday, there were some interesting things going on. The Cardinals blew a twenty one point oh Man and what was, as a Cardinals fan, a great loss. So so I was just gonna say great, So you know, I'm joking, of course, before Bidwill calls me Bidwill gun on the phone of like a mid court quarter. You
know, guys, we're not supposed to be winning these gates exactly. Caleb Williams is still gonna be the first overall pick, whether we have it or not. Screw this up? Wasn't there? Major League was like, that was it what the management wanted the team to lose? Yeah? That was a movie. A movie. This is a bad movie. It's one of those things where as a Cardinals fan, you knew this was gonna happen going into the season. You were gonna lose a ton of games. But in
the first half they didn't even look that bad. And they didn't look horrible last week against the Commanders, I thought, I mean, I thought, maybe there's something going on here, and then they got caught. I agree, I agree. But also NFL news, the Bengals are owing two for the second straight year in Burrow aggravated his calf again, Ye are any sense of worry for the Bengals? Well, yeah, you can't be owing two. was your weekend one of them. Which one was the one that didn't, Well, I know the Arizona didn't hit the over, Yeah, because it was like last night it was fifty seven and a half. They didn't even get by the way, the backup to Joe Burrow is Jake Brownie and the guy from Washington, Washington not terrible. And then lastly the Arizona Diamondbacks there in the playoffs. Right currently, we're a half came up. We're a half game up on the Marlins and the Cubs. We just swept the Cubs,
and we're a game up on the Reds. We have a two game stint with the San Francisco Giants, who are two back of us, So two of the biggest baseball games for my for my boys. In the scene listening, he's going to we Yeah, we we the Diamondbacks, born and raised. It's my team. We'll let you have it. Yeah, he's not talking Arizona. show once again. I want to talk about your experience over the weekend. I saw you on the field for the coin flip. I'm thinking, Randy, here's this guy who's so accomplished playing in the NFL and all that, and I'm thinking, what does you think about today's athlete? Because you were, you were right there, it was gonna be a big game. What do you think about today's athlete? To say today's athlete, they're bigger, they're faster. Yeah, I mean, he's because they're just mature a lot
faster. They're just tremendous because all the tools they have in front of them and all the resources they have in front of them. They're just bigger guys, you know, which is which is amazing, especially on the line, especially as far as the line play and in the line compared to when I was playing. So is that another way of saying you'd rather not be out on the field with these guys? Or do you do you think you would? No? I mean, I'm a defensive back, a quarterback. I'm
pretty good sized. I'm sick too, so my size is pretty good. So I'm okay, I can compete with these guys. All right, you're a good size. Let me ask you, how would you have handled the guy like Tea Mac I'll played against a guy like Kellen Wislow. Oh nice, How was that? You know, it's worked because you just gotta know what his stretts are and know what yours are, and guys like that you
just have to use whatever your stress are to your advantage against him. So that's you know, because you know, a guy like Kellen Wislough, I wasn't going to overpower him. I was just gonna have to beat him to the spot, you know, and beat the quarterback to the spot. That's
how you play guys like that. Well, let me ask you about that, because the way the game is played now, you know, it's become such a passing game, right, The running backs are kind of getting I mean, they're still important, but they're not you know, there aren't any Barry Sanders out there. There aren't any Walter Payton's and Tony Dorsets and those kinds of guys. You know, that's just kind of got, you know, the next guy up and then they go get another guy. So it's
so much of it is passing. There's a lot of got to be a lot of personal on the defensive backs. But in terms of the way the game is being played and the way it's called right, How what do you How different is that for you? I don't know how how if you're on the sidelines and saw all that on Saturday, But you know, what does it look like to you in terms of what you what you did. It's it's you know, like I said, and you're correct, you know,
you know, I went up against the backs you're talking about. You know in our conference. You know, we had Marcus Allen who played at US Seat and the Raiders, so they had to deal with Earl Campbell's There's no more running backs like that pretty much anymore. And these guys are kind of like widely you know, in that type of molde Barry Sanders would be big in today's game, you know, bigger. So this game is wide open.
I like the way it's played. I mean, I think they're doing a good job of taking a head out of the game, which they need to, you know, with the targeting and hitting in the head. I think I think that's a good call long term, and guys and defensive backs will adjust and linebackers will adjust, and it has to it just has to go through this progression through the youth leagues, high school, and it'll get
to college as far as you know, less targeting. So another thing when I when you were down there, and I'm sorry, I'm asking you this question, by the way, when you were down there, I'm thinking, it's been forty some years, forty years does it feel you know? I was thinking the same thing that forty years it went Yeah, you know, I saw some of the guys. I saw some some fans that you know, hey, say hey, you know, I remember you were playing. They're in their eddies now, so I mean, and I'm sixty one,
so it's it's surreal. It goes quick. But I love we're at as a university and uh and as a team, you know, we're coach Fish is doing it right. That staff and direction. I like the direction the university is going. Well, let me ask you that because you know, we went through as a you know, as a fan, you were you know, former players. I'm sure you cared a lot about it. We
went through a really dark period with this, with this program. But you know, yeah, you know, we're talking about how this game it didn't seem like it was ever in doubt. When last year and the year before you walked into any gaming you thought they could lose you know, just talk about what you what you see as a player and what's going on out there that that you have an appreciation for these kids. These kids are working hard,
they're putting uh, they're going one hundred percent. The talent level, you know, is getting better. And the kids are working hard, they're they're doing the best they can and and and that, and they're giving great And that's what I like about it. You know, we always always asking this of the guys, and maybe I don't ask you this. Uh, last time you were on while back, well, you know, you were
a defensive back. How do you watch a game? What do you watch when you're watching a game as a spectator, whether it's you know, on television, or you're at the game, you're on the sidelines, up in the seats or whatever. What are you looking at? Yeah, Defensively, I'm looking at seeing how the offense is attack in the defense, I'm looking at seeing the common progressions or rock combinations as compared to what the coverages are
running. I'm looking at the schemes seeing how they developed. You know, that's kind of what I'm looking at. I'm looking at it from a coaching standpoint. Okay, Oh, this is how they're attacking us. You know, yeah, that's kind of how I watch football. So let me ask you. We talked about Kellen Winslow, but what do you think about t mech He is good. He I mean, he's like a bigger version of Odell Beckham. You know, yeah, that cat she made you know,
that's that was unreal. You know, that's who he reminds me of Odell Beckham. But I think he's a bigger than Odell Beckham. You know, yeah, well he's six four, righty, Well he's big. He is, He's bigger than Odell Beckham. And I think he's you know, he's definitely gonna have a great career at the next level. Uh, you know, knock on wood, he stays healthy. You know, this kid has
a future. Okay, so let's ask you to Jayden delora question because we're talking about how, you know, the whole gun slinger mentality, you know, trying to fit a ball in any window. Wait, did you who
do you who's your quarterbacks back in the day? Tom Tom and I did compare him a little bit to ton of Cliff last week because we talked about you know, Tom, Tom thought he could make every throw, right, Yeah, Well, I mean if I'm if I'm the lawyer, if I'm on gabble or you know, make every throw if I'm throwing it to him, yes, if I'm throwing body else, probably not on the ball.
Or just take what the defense gives me, take its tack down. But if the ball's gone to Ticky Mack, throw it because I think eighty percent of the time he's either gonna catch the ball or get a penalty on it. Yeah, okay, I guess because you have a quarterback that has so much confidence. I guess Tom did two back. Then are you okay with that because he has so much confidence? Or as a as a teammate you're thinking, Man, I wish you would just kind of tone it down a
little. Well, I just take with you know, just take with the defense. You know, I don't mind you taking risk if it works, you know, but if they come on the bed side of it, no, I don't take the risk. Just take what the defense gives you. Yeah, you know, but did it comes the time when you when you take a risk and I play with probably the best add it ever was alway right, you know, when that guy took a risk, you know ninety
percent it was the right move. Yeah, he could do things that that not many other people could do. Sure, but but but the mentality, right is it? Yeah, you have an appreciation for the mentality. But you know, Jayden Delord is not John Elway, but you know he still has that mentality. You know, how does that? How would that sit with you? Yeah? I mean the Lord, he just needs to He wants to take risks all the time. That's kind of what I see with
him. He wants to take he did he did better this past week. You know this this week and he did better. And I think he'll learn that. But he just needs to understand that, you know, you got other you got other players on the team, trust them, trust you know, trust that they'll be where they need to be or just take what it gives you. It's okay to get first downs. You know, we don't touchdowns every play. Just first downs are good, you know. And I
think and I think he'll learn that. I think Coach Fish he'll get him right and he'll learn that. So Reddy, I'm not sure how often you come down, come down to Tucson, how much to go on campus? How many times I got season tickets. I'm down here a lot, so you know, I got a season tickets. I'm down here quite often. Okay, So my question and I'll ask it anyway. So, so I
got here in eighty seven, you were here in the early eighties. Could you talk about just how things have changed here aesthetically and just on campus and
things like that. Know, how'd you guys had some of this stuff on on campus back in the day, you know, you know, Brandon Sanders, you know, took me on a tour of the facility, because the last time I've been on a tour is about maybe five or six years ago, and compin you know, we're comparing the time to well when I played, you know, Coach Smith from eighty to eighty three, whether it looked
like then and about five or six years ago until now. Our facility is beautiful, you know, our kids, you know, and it's well deserved. I mean, they need all the things that they got available to them, the services, the food, uh, the opportunities to eat and the nutrition and the men and the science. All that stuff is there. The weight room they've redone that. I mean, they've done a beautiful job.
And it's when I like about it. It's all under one house. You know, it's all right there, and which is great, and it's it'll get us ready for the big twelve, you know, to the next phase. You know of the school's history and and I think that and it's well deserved. You don't can't deserve it. You didn't mention the nil. How would you have done with that? Do you think? I think I would have done pretty well in my opinion, I think I would have done okay.
But it's you know, we're not done yet. I think this is gonna This has changed college sports, and I think it's still growing. It's still I think you go still see a lot more conferences merging together. You know. My my thing, I wouldn't be surprised in about fifteen twenty years, it's maybe thirty to forty schools get it all the revenue, you know, but you know, just if you know, would come home and football,
basketball, softball, baseball. I think it's gonna be turned down about thirty or forty schools, you know, just compete for everything because of the money. That's just my opinion. Yeah, no, I don't disagree with you. It's going to be a mess. Let me ask you how if you haven't a thought, if you have an opinion on Don and all that and the Norville thing, and let me just maybe do a quick evaluation. I play, I played a doctor on the radio show I'm Not Real,
real one. So Norville has an ego too. He's an NFL guy, keeps in the NFL, played, and now he's going against Don. NFL dudes with egos aren't going to back up to another NFL dude with an ego. I mean that's who you are, right, You became good for a reason. How would you handle Deon? And maybe that's not the question, but what do you make of the situation? Dion? You know, Deon, as great as he is and was as a player, you know he's bringing that to coaching and kids. You know, Dion was a great player.
That's why he's in the Hall of Fame. But don't but Deon walks to walk, He talked to talk, but he put that effort to work and he's demanding that of his kids. And it doesn't surprise me he's doing well. I expected that from somebody Likedon because that's just who he is. And it doesn't surprise me. And he is he is great at motivating kids, as you can tell. You know, he believes in them. He believes in those kids. And if you want you to get kids to believe
in you and you believe them, man, that's that's powerful. And that's what he's doing. You know, he's he's turning young boys and the men. That's what he's doing right in front of our face. Yeah, he certainly is. He certainly is. More than anything, it's been interesting to watch. You know, you're gonna now you're you know, he's gonna start having got people who are gonna root against him just because they don't like him his stick, and people are gonna root for him for him because they love
his stick. So you're starting to see you know, camps like that or you know, opinions like that. But he certainly has made college football interesting this year. I mean, just think about what he's done. I mean, Colorado won eleven last year and they won three games this year, and uh, you know, who knows how the rest of the seasons is gonna turn out. But I mean he's great. Just right now. If he doesn't win another game, he's won two more they won all the last year.
Yeah. Yeah, well, let's see you know, Jed did that too. I mean Jed, Jed, what do you think about him? Overall? I like coach Fish. He does the same thing. He does it his way, you know, just like Deon is doing it his way. Jet Fish is doing it what you know, you know, getting nobody's den. You can't compare Jet to Dion because that's just a different that's just a different breed there. But Jet is he he's believing in the kids.
He's putting things into the kids. He's getting the kids to believe, and he's also getting you know, he's taking care of him. So he's doing it his way and he's you know, uh taking care of him.
