Breaking down all the exes and olls. It's Steve Rivera and Jacin Salmons. This is I Am the Ball on Fox Sports fourteenth. Hey, welcome back to Iye on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Romera, He's jakins Ov's got our guys, Sammy with breaking news. I Am the Ball breaking news. So you have a football, Ill, go ahead. I was gonna say, do good job. We're gonna throw a flag on you. Now we ain't gonna pick it up. Oh okay, Hey, I'll go to the I'll go to the booth. I'll get a second
one. I'll call New York. I'll get I'll get this. I'll get it over exactly. You have a football. As we've talked about, wasn't uh on the field this weekend, but some interesting stuff happening off the field today and this weekend. Keanu will Height commits to Washington. It's relatively new as of today. I broke today. Yeah, that's what we figured. What happened right, Well, he went to a little wind Washington for the
Washington Oregon game. So you know, if you're recruiting a kid to Washington, you're not gonna bring him to Washington, Stanford, You're gonna bring him to Washington, Oregon. So he was invited to to make an official visit there. He did, and not not surprisingly, he committed there. Do you think he rushed the field with everyone else. Yeah, he probably would have been on the field already. So taking the pictures that's still another thing
called. And then all the all the expectations are that his his South Point teammate Elijah Rushing, will probably go to Oregon. That's what people are saying. Very interesting. So they they teammates now fine, against they're happy over there. Hope they're happy. I hope he gets to play. Can you sense the sarcasm, don't you know? Jay, haven't. I'm working on
it. This is what I have. He's one of the hosts here, bitter fine if he wants to go go, you know, it's just again, as gay Abe said, our our our thus sayer said, the grass isn't always greener. And there's a lot of guys who could you know, who know that, who have left Arizona to go places and it hasn't been
great wherever they've gone. And they they they you know, they miss out on a good thing like ask some of the guys that are playing or supposedly playing at Colorado right now, they transfer go with Dion and all of a sudden there are these five stars and they're not playing because they're not doing their job, right, right, I mean, if you go, if you're a five star and you go and you work hard and you do your job, you'll more likely than not see the field wherever you go. Right.
And we still haven't played any of the any of the dead fish clips. But and maybe maybe we'll play this one, uh in the in the in the last segment. But you know, he talked about how guys who come here they get to play. Yeah, right, they get to play, and and you know, you go somewhere else it might not be so great. You know. I don't think I clipped that one, by the way, I don't think. Yeah. But you look at T Mac like T Mac five star, come here right away if you're good and what And he's
getting all the attention you could wants. He's talked about on the national shows, he's talked about on podcasts, he's in his name is in the media, he's getting awards. You know, he's you know, he I don't know how long he's gonna stay, but you know he's building a profile to be a first round pick. Yeah, he's extremely fun to watch. We'll get to watch him this weekend. Some kind of fun interesting news. Gronk, Rob Gronkowski U of A Legend will be the honorary captain, not this
week but next week for homecoming. And Gronk's also in the news. The Jimmy Kimmel l A Bowl, which it was originally called, is now the newly They haven't ironed out a name yet, but maybe it'll be the Gronk l A Bowl. I find that pretty interesting, as he's went to school in u of A or in Arizona and now sponsors in l A Bowl. So we'll see. And I guess in the announcement he said he'd love to
see on a plane. I think that's why Jed didn't want to comment on the game itself, right, but we said he said no comment in any but but Bronk is our honorady captain for the which got announced today as a seven thirty game, yes for next week? Yeah, yeah, yeah, we got two seven thirty games coming up. By I won a day game, Steve or at least four o'clock. Yeah, the only one we got. The only chance we got left is Utah. Right. I love the day games, which could be that would be a fun game. Last year
it was good. It was the afternoon game, right, yeah, yeah, I can remember it now. It was one o'clock o'clock game. We finished a fourth. We had tresa and eggs at our at our tailgate party. I mean, you can't beat that with a stick. No, but college football was still rampant and wild. I guess this weekend. Ohio State assumingly beat Penn State, and if you watch the game, it honestly was even close. From the from the Penn State still somewhat seems to be the
little brothers to get there. Michigan and Ohio State, and those are those are games that you need to win. If James Franklin and you have a five star core back and you want to be getting guys to come to your program, you got to win one of those games. You got to. I mean, ask Carball over at Michigan. It took them a while, but as soon as you win one, you get to you see some traction. Right, and Harbaugh and Michigan have been in the news, maybe not
for the best reasons. They've had some I don't know if it's play calling, stealing signs stealing, there's some stuff out on that action. Yeah, today the guy bought eleven tickets to different games, So Michigan is a crap shoot, but they're still they on average this year they allow five points to opposing offenses five points. They're really good, really really good. They're really good. But people are thinking, how much are they cheating? Nothing's proven
yet, well, nothing, nothing, nothing. They just got this guy, this this analyst who's been buying tickets at it a bunch of tickets at eleven other venues. So that's basically every other big ten school just about and they're saying that they've got video of the person sitting in those seats. It's not him. He's been apparently taking the tickets, giving him to somebody and
saying, go film their sign their signals the whole game. So like one of the schools I didn't say which one has video, you know, stadium video that shows this guy he's got his his iPhone up the whole game and it's not aimed at the plays, it's aimed at the sidelines. But wouldn't and so there's people saying, well, that's just scouting. Well that's not just scouting. Yea. You your guy hired a guy assumingly he presumably paid him with a ticket or paid him on top of that. They're getting that
video and they're using it to figure out signs. Yeah, but wouldn't you be able to just turn on game film and their sidelines right there? Game
film? Game film doesn't include like huddles and signs. Film is got you just did you notice last week Dallas played a Sunday night game or Monday night game and one of those games last week or so, and McCarthy he was reading his game game stuff and then I guess in his headphones there were partly telling him live your lift, lift, cover your mouth, and right he was headed down. He had it down. Baentually someone's town put your mouth your Andy Reid is the m v P of that. He does that really
well. But some other teams that barely held on. We talked a little bit about Washington at the beginning of the show, and we talked about the miscall. I know you pulled it up. It was you were right as obvious as hell. And that's a game where if you lose that game. Even if you go and win to the Pac twelve Championship, you're a Pack twelve champion with one loss eat Organ twice. Some people aren't going to be it would have it would have been, if not the top upset of the
year. Yeah. I couldn't even think of a second one. Number one one was Virginia stunning you. Oh yeah, yeah, don't that too loudly. So I want to cry. I'm a big Drake May fan. I think he's going to be good and Mac Brown is a historic coach, and you just you can't lose to a one in five Virginia Cavaliers team and expect to continue to be respected as one of the better football teams in the country like they had hoped. Would I see Mac Brown with all due respect,
because I think he's a very good coach. He's did some amazing things. Ten I see Dictomy. I just see respected older gentleman who runs a football program. Well, Matt Brown needs to retire right now. That is NC now dead to you, They're dead to me. He's got no teams left. They're checking there, Dippen mental notes. Oklahoma gone. But you know what, you know what they're not dead to me. You know why, because you're gonna take him next week. No, because they had the decency
to lose. Okay, Okay, they didn't cover, so they lost. So that's that's actually semi okay with Okay, you're not gonna cover, then I want you to lose. You know, in a game like that, I started rooting against you, even though as long as the cover, the cover is dead. And I watched the end of that, probably the fourth quart of that game, rooting like crazy for if I'm going down, I went down, I want to take everybody with me, including all of of
of Chapel Hill Man. That was that was my dream school growing up. Place have you ever been? I went to U n C D game? Oh wow, the wow? How cool would that be? It's it was? And so they won that game and that year they won the national championships. I had some great barbecue and food, foods good. And that's that that one street that's called those restaurants right by the campus. I don't have to remember what's I had some I had some great barbecue that they denied my
application. So I'm I'm here. You we only take smart dudes. That exactly seriously. The g p A is the g p A is good good enough for me, so good enough for the screw seriously. But uh now, okay, now they're dead to me. Now now they're dead. But we'll transition to the NBA and talk a little bit about some Wildcats. Josh Green got an extension or contract extension three years, forty one million dollars and I know you guys talked about it on Friday, but Zeke Naji also getting
some substantial moneys well, and meant to look it up. How much of how much did they actually play last year? Zeke a lot. Josh actually, at the end of the season was getting valuable minutes. He was one of those guys where it felt like he had figured out his jump shot and he'd always been a good defender, and so he's one of those guys where you you can pair with Luca or put him on the floor with him, and he doesn't care about not having the basketball. So they probably were like,
hey, man, we're gonna pay you. You go out, play, play your butt off, play defense, make some shots, and that's what LUCN needs. Those you guys are said for life, man, Good for them, Yeah, good for them. I'm happy for happy it worked out for this. You have these two dudes, pretty good dudes, and Nico. Nico's that team that was the Self and post band. It was Self in Postman. But look how good they were and they still weren't done
good. Now there's a group speaks. There's many reasons. I'll give you what good. But another guy who just got a contract extension actually on the break, Giannis onto the Cumbo three years, one hundred and eighty six million dollar extensions. So it seems now he's happy in watch the guy two million dollars a year to play basket. What would you do with sixty two million dollars right right now? But I put it on Red. I'd tell him, not tell anybody where the hell. Yeah, I was going. It's
it's all going on Red. It was nice knowing you guys. Yeah, I would hopefully. I'd hopefully go to Game seven in Philly tomorrow. Diamondbacks still up for to one for one. They just took out Merrol Kelly, who was seemingly dealing. Yeah, went out at the bottom of the sixth run around first for the Phillies. Yeah. So it's one of those questions Merrill Kelly obviously five innings, one run seemed to pitching well tory level, takes him out. I guess it's I guess it's playoff baseball. You know
all too well. David Dave Roberts overmanagers as always over me well. And the Dodgers won the World Series because because Joe Madden overmanaged and took out Blake Snell in the in Uh No, it wasn't Joe Madden. Who was it. It was mad Race coach, Yeah, it was it was Joe mad came out and took out you know, Blake Snell, who it was unhittable, unhittable, And they got to the third round of the third time through the lineup and they took him out. It was the fifth inning they take
him out, and the Dodgers immediately started hitting. It's it's one of those things where you play one hundred and eighty two regular season games, you let the guys go, you play, you get your record and I get the bullpen matchups, everything, but sometimes you just gotta let your boys do you do well. You're talking to that, you're talking to the high school baseball coach. So let my kid throw one hundred and sixty six pitches long,
one hundred and sixty six pitches. That's order line back in our day. If you didn't, if you weren't bleeding brook and you played until you believe me, I grew up playing baseball. You you haven't heard the best part. It was the first game of a doubleheader and you pitched the next game. He played shortstop in the second game. I thought you were gonna say you put him behind home plate. That would have been worse. I've had those games go catch and then the next game you're pitching. Exactly. But
so Diamondbacks looking to go to Game seven. We got a minute left, so I'll make the make it quick. The Ashtros and Rangers Game seven in Houston should be a great game and not a lot of time to talk about the NFL. But honestly, it was a weird week. So yeah, real quick. Delaney Schnell in the top thirty four NCAA Woman of the Year. Oh nice, he just announced that, So nice, very nice. Waiting for that too minute. Maybe she'll become another one of them. Arizona's
kind of owns the Yeah, they've had a whole bunch of them. They've all been swimming people old track track. You have one trek Lewis. What's your name? Uh, Herdler. Oh she's fantastic, Yeah, okay that yeah. But otherwise a whole bunch of swimmers. Yeah all right, Hey, nice job. What's your name? Sammy? Nice job Sammy? And Carolina, Carolina. We'll be back. We're gonna be We'll be back with

Welcome back, Welcome back to Eyeing the Ball. You're on Fox fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, your Jay and we got Brian Peterson from Mazy Desert Swarm. How you doing. I'm doing great, Thanks for having me back. Yeah, we have confusion here at the station, but that should's shock anybody. Yeah. Hey,
so we're at the press commis today and Jed spoke. So what do you get from his non answer answer on the quarterback who's starting? It's gonna be Noah. Yeah. I think it's just a matter of certifying it with how they look this week and maybe trying to figure out ways to play both of them, maybe with a package or something for Delora or whatnot. But there's also just some gamesmanship in it that got to keep some mystery, so that
Oregon State has to prepare for both of them. I'm sure that Oregon State is assuming it's going to be Fafita, but needs to be prepared for anything. So it's not surprising that he didn't name one. Okay, your assessment of why where has Anolaeda been better than Jane Dolaura? More than anything, I think it's been in staying on script and not trying to make more out of a situation where you can just take the safe play or the little play
or cut your losses. While that may mean he has a lower ceiling because there's less of those big plays and you know, explosive plays and all that, it also means that there's there's a less likelihood of a blow up in the negative sense. I've said kind of from the beginning, once Fafita started playing that his floor is a lot higher than DeLaura, but the ceiling isn't maybe as high, whereas when DeLaura plays, you have just as much the
chance of winning by twenty as losing by thirty. Yeah, I think game management is part of it, right, no mistakes, no mistakes, just getting the job done. So, you know what, we talked about the quarterback situation, but we don't talk about the running back situation. With Wiley out, we don't know his situation, and he was fantastic right throughout this
last couple of years. Now he's kind of been replaced too, Yes, but I think in that situation it's a little different in that it's kind of been a more of a committee and more of rotation there than anywhere else. Quarterback is just so unique because you're really generally only going to play one guy there unless you have a system that calls for multiple or it's a blowout or
an injury. Whereas I mean, even when Wiley was healthy, three running backs were getting regular carries with Jonah Coleman and DJ Williams and then to a lesser extent, Speedy Luke, and then without it, it's just been three guys. It's Luke's been the third guy, with Coleman being the primary. I think with Wiley coming back, it just means they've got four guys that they can rotate in. And this last game was a great example. They
against Washington State, they had three different guys with ten carries. Wiley never really got like twenty carries a game, except for maybe the ASU game last year when he had those big runs and they just kind of rode the workhorse. But the combination of what Scotti Graham does with bringing up picking the guy to go in and just how they use the run game so much about Jed is trying to mimic the NFL, and that's really kind of how the NFL
has become. You don't see a lot of twenty five thirty carry guys anymore. We're talking to Brian Peterson Vezy Desert Swarm dot com. Brian, the defense, you know, the quarterback situation has been you know, all the talk and all the rage, but the defense, and you know every game you see it's just I think people aren't just because of Arizona hasn't been known for defense over the last decade that people are kind of shocked to see what's
happening. Oh, no doubt. And I mean they had those strong results during the during the preseason, the non conference, but you kind of knew that once it was getting into the Pac twelve, it wasn't going to be like that, because the quality of the offense, we're going to get significantly better. But even though they gave up thirty one to Washington, that was at the time the fewests that Washington scored and gave up forty three to USC
it was twenty eight in regulation. And that was a team that had scored I think forty plus in regulation in every game. And then Washington State, which was lighting it up early in the season, manages six points. So they're now sitting here only allowing something like twenty point six points per game through seven. And now it's hard to say that like it was a fluke or it was based on the competition. It's just, by and large, just
so much better across the board. Think why do you think they've gotten so much better so fast? I mean, I think the choice midway through last season to start playing a lot more of the younger guys in meaningful snaps, knowing that the season was really more about pushing towards the following year. Those guys are now starters and their main rotation guys, so they had a little bit of a taste. And then you brought in some key veterans, I
mean Bill Norton, he doesn't put up stats. Same with Tyler Minoa, but they've been huge on the defensive line fitting in with that rotation. Same with Taylor Upshaw. I mean the fact that they're playing eight, nine to ten defensive linemen on the regular and that nobody has played more than maybe sixty percent of the snaps is huge because in the fourth quarter, they're not worn
down scheme. It's the same as last year, and you saw a lot of times by the end of the game last year they were just worn out and they couldn't stop anybody. So I think it's a combination of those things. Okay, well, what do you think's gonna because we won't talk to you this a week, but what do you think is gonna happen this weekend in a game that we thought was a pivotal game for them to get the
six wins. I think that they should. I think they're going to win this game, and it'll come down to trying to stay as mistake free as they've been lately on offense, and you know, making sure they have a really good game plan for an offense that's different than what they've been facing the
last three weeks. It does have a mobile quarterback, but it is also much more run based and tight ends and fullbacks and so whereas you saw this dollar package get used against Washington to follid success and USC as well, and then more of a flex brought in for Washington State, Johnny Nansen has to come up with a scheme that fits best with the team that has the leading rusher in the Pac twelve, has a mobile quarterback, has a lot of
size at the skill positions, and is you know, just so different than what they faced the last few weeks. So you know the football question, go ahead. I wanted to transition. We have about seven minutes to Friday night's basketball game and you were there, Jade, So what did you see Friday night? I mean, I saw a team that looks like it's going to be really fun to watch, especially when it has all of the pieces and the fact that there looks like there's going to be a lot more pieces
with three of those guys sitting out. They had ten scholarship players and they were all in within seven minutes, and I'd say eight of them were playing a significant amount. Combine that with umar Baalo and Pela Larson and Motiagis, Crevius I mean, you could have ten or eleven guys that are that are seeing more than just like the token one or two minutes to catch a breath
right before a media timeout. That stood out to me also that the Caleb Love that we saw just that in this first game didn't really look like the one that was at North Carolina that just stayed on the perimeter and jacked up a bunch of shots. He went to the rim six times, scored six times, and then that opened him up more so that he wasn't just hoisting
trees. He was getting open looks. And he also dished out seven assists, which I believe he only did maybe five or six times in one hundred and one games at North Carolina. So if if if that's the kind of Caleb Love they're going to get, then he's going to be a huge part of the team, Umar Bellow. You know, with all these big guys you know coming in, you guys too, you know, does umer Bello's role pretty much stay the same you think, or you know, does he
had does he get to or want to play less? You know, because they like all the other guys, right, everybody looked worn down by the end of last year. Yeah, I mean, I still think he's the primary five, if previous can fit into that role as well, or if he's like supposed to be the two bellas as the athletic four remains to be
seen. I just I think you're not going to see as much of the offense go through the front court as you did the past two years and this last year specifically, and so that maybe he is much more of a defensive guy that is also there for the offensive rebounds and whatnot. But that'll depend on how that that four spot is filled, whether that's crevious, whether Kashat Johnson plays the four like he did on Friday with those big guys out,
So that's kind of a little up in the air. Yeah. No, I think the story, at least the story I thought was Friday was the backcourt. How how it's gonna be much different than last year, right with kerr Ghan and and how there's three dudes that could be another fourth with Larsen
back Just how solid that backwards gonna be. Yeah, And it's a matter of I mean, if you just look at they have not they did not have reliable backcourt play across the board that those guys put up some decent scoring games, but they also if they shot poorly, then it just puts so much emphasis on the front court guys. And if you're doubling them and then the guys outside can't score, I mean, it really comes down to you.
Like those guys just didn't. Pellagan went to the rim and Cedric Henderson went to the rim a little bit, but Ramy very rarely did and Kerr almost never did. And if you have guards that you don't have to worry about the penetrate part that if all they're going to do is penetrate and kick, it becomes a little bit predictable. If these guys are legitimately going to go to the rim, it really opens things up for the kickouts and everything
like that. That's that could be a huge part. You know, we were talking at the table watching a Keishad Johnson and we just said, he looks mean, he looks like that enforcer guy that you need at the four spot. He's not going to take any crap from anybody. He's going to be physical inside. Someone they've needed for a while, somebody that they've needed like that for a while. As good as again we all know, as good as Zulus was. You know, he didn't he didn't have that grimace
on his face. He didn't have the Pete Williams grimace or the you know, the the Sean Rooks grimace, you know, and just was in there pounding people. He Shaw Johnson walks on the court and you look at him, you go, I don't want to piss that guy off. I mean, that's how I saw him on Friday night. He he almost looked to me like imagine Ira Lee, but with a much better overall skill set.
Just that meanness and that intensity, that that incredible drive and desire he had that just didn't go with having the best offensive skill set and and kind of an up and down defensive side. That's kind of where Kashad looks this team. I think, well, this is tough. Will probably be the easily uh Tommy's best team, at least on paper, at least visually, and even probably one of if you want to compare them to Sewan's better teams fifteen
sixteen when they had all those good guys. This kind of matches it, don't you think In a way, yes, yes, But at the same time, this team's going to have almost certainly going to have more regular season losses than either of the first two teams because of that non conference schedule, and it doesn't Before Ken Palm came out with their preseason ratings, I projected
twenty three and eight fifteen and five. That's exactly what Ken Pom has I see that three three losing three losses during the non conference they they've only had
one the last two seasons. And then the Pac twelve is solid, and they're going to have those situations where maybe the tail end of a two game trip and all that, but that doesn't necessarily mean the team isn't as good, and it's almost like a preview of what they're going to be facing next year in the Pact, in the Big twelve, where maybe an eleven and nine conference record is still good enough to get you a top four seed in
the end of three and eight? Is that right? With that what you said three overall fifteen and five, that's probably no worse than a three. That's probably no worse than a three. It depends on how good the rest of the Pac twelve really is, right, and it's whose who those losses are too. I mean, if they were to lose to someone other than
those Big five teams during the non conference that would be very detrimental. And if they were to drop something to like a Cow or a UH Oregon State or even like like a Utah or Colorado at home, those kind of things would you know. Last year they were able to overcome the fact that they lost to Washington State at home and losing at Stanford and having those kind of results, the early season loss at Utah where they just laid an egg after
MAUI. I don't see this team doing that because I think there's the other thing about having so much depth is there's options, and there's the possibility of consequences. If someone is struggling or not carrying their weight, they can get No one was getting pulled from that front that first seven last year, right because there was nobody that Tommy trusted to fill their spot. There was no
like purpose benching or anything. He couldn't do that. I don't know if he will, but he has that option now well, and I think twenty three and eight party worst case scenario, Yeah, we'll see, we'll see. I mean, maybe somebody from the PAC twelve will end up being better than expected or or vice versa. But I mean that's the conference schedule is always a just a grind when you have those back to back road games with usually only one day in between, and that you're traveling and you're not going
to face that in the Big Twelve. The way they do their scheduling is much different when it comes to road trips and travel and all that. So it bites people in the butt, you know, that tail end game, having the Colorado Utah or vice versa back to back, or having to play in Seattle and then fly to Spokane or or wherever and then drive to Pullman, and that those things start to wear on you when you only have a day in between games. Their eighteen year old kids, Brian, don't worry
about that. Thanks, nineteen year old kids that don't fit on a UH on a standard plane. There's that. Okay, thank you, Brian. Take care, Brian Peterson, easy desert swarm. Don't read that stuff over there. Yeah, take all that stuff. They do some good stuff. Yeah. So kind of along the lines with the quarterback situation, I think I think that he's going to start. Yeah, I think so. How can you not? Yeah? Yeah, how can you not? Unless for
feted like really trunk set up in practice? This week, but I don't see him as being that guy. I think we have some time for calls and then we're gonna do some clips. Yeah. Well, let's let's go and go into the jetfish stuff right now. He did, Well, we have a call. Let's take the call. Hi, you're on the air and I on the ball. Hey, this is Bill. How are you guys doing.
What's up? Bill? Hey? Bill? Hey, I've had a week to think about the Oregon State game, so I've done a lot of studying. I've done a lot of research. I wanted to bring my idea to you gurus because I got it figured out how we beat Oregon State. Okay, well we're all ears man, let's hear it. We have Jay choose Oregon State that I looked at every single scenario and that's the best one out there. I think it's it's brilliant. I don't know what to say,
Deve. I think he's got a point. He does have a point. Well, let's just say I'll just go ahead and tell you Bill, I've got the phillies in this game right there? You go them for Game seven? For me play if there's been anything consistent this year, it's been there. It's been that, it's been there. Yeah, Yeah, I mean, yeah, that that fine. Bill, appreciate it. Thank you for your support. All these numbers, blah blah blah. Just have Jay take
Oregon State. I might we're only underdogs by it. It was it opened up four, it opened the forest. When I heard, I think down almost that number is a little lower than I expected. I expect to be like six or seven on the road. I don't think it's gonna go lower though. Don't you think there's a lot of money going every Yeah, either that the money line will probably be a good big play. There's a couple
of money line games where you might as well just take that. Yeah, football this weekend, and I think, yeah, because if it's going to be that close, Arizona will win. But you know, you don't know very I'm I still continue to be unimpressed by uh ounge. But we'll see. Here's another caller. You're on the air and eye on the balls listening you guys, see how you doing right? Well? I got a couple of you have a prediction. First, Jay, I think Arizona wins the
next three games. And then I think at this at that point or as such or about that at some point towards it, this city wakes up and becomes a football town again, because I believe I think Tucson actually is a football town at his core. Yeah, and you know, here's a great basketball town too, but you know, if they start winning, I think
the town wakes up. And uh so that's about it. Now. I also have a comment about it's something I experienced here in nineteen eighty eight, which was one of the most shocking moments in the history of college football. Uh you were probably there was the ASU game against to you of a right, and I'll give you the answer to that on another day. But I think he could probably figure it out. But it was actually one of the most He went under the radar, but it was one of the most stunning
moments I think in the history college football. Yes, nineteen eighty what that Ronaldville threw a touchdown pass or what basketball? No, he said football, you answer. What happened was he did throw a touchdown pass rug before halftime that was stolen by Melvin Smi hills hands. Yeah, the crowd, you know. Elect Anyway, Arizona wins the game and they have beaten ASU seven years in a row. They owned asud. I'm up in the stands. I'm from Oklahoma. I've seen a lot of rivalries. Nineteen eighty eight,
they beatn ASU seven years in a row. Okay, we get to the end of the game, Arizona wins. Right, it's eight years in a row. Well, I'm with my friends. We get up, we're leaving, We're going home, right huh. The fans stormed the field and tore down both goal posts. Yeah, yeah, they used to do that all the time. It was the eighty two game, or was the eighty six
game? The eighty two game or the eighty six They took one of the one of the uprights and they they walked it all the way to the Santa Cruz River, which didn't wasn't isn't a river, and threw it in the wash. So yeah, I want to say I want to say it was the eighty six game because it was that was a day game, and so they put they tore the goalpost down, tore them apart, and one of the uprights went into the Santa Cruz. Man, that's that's in you tell
you don't do that. I mean, you nobody beat somebody seven years in a row. Was in a row? And then they tear down the goal post. It's just to me. It shocked me, but I learned. I learned a lot about Tucson that day. Yeah, yeah, And you know our totenis and the haves and the have not exactly exactly, but I think this the football town. Man, it's going to go. Well, I'm glad to hear you say that, Richard, because I had to.
I had to smack one of our interns in the back of the head for saying that nobody thinks about of Arizona as a football as a as a football school. So well, they had been long enough, it'll happen. It's going to happen. Well, it has been in his life. This guy jed. You know, the Lincoln Riley he lost this season in the transfer portal. Jetfish is out recruited him in the transfer portal, or at least his recruise worked out. So Richard, Richard real quickly, let me introduce
interrupt you. So you're an Oklahoma guy. I know you followed Oklahoma heavily. So what what Riley is going through at USC is probably not a surprise to you. No. I think it uh just turned out to be more harder than he thought it was going to be probably. Uh, he just he's not as good as last year. The offensive line, defensive line, Tayler Williams is under more pressure. Yeah, and the stress is getting to him some, I think. No, I'm talking about being a coach too,
about being a coach. Yeah, No, I think Lincoln is a very good coach. I think he should have gotten a defense, a different defense in coordinating when you went to UFC. He was too loyal to Alex Grants. I think he should have made a change then. But that's just from the outside looking in. If Lincoln sticks it out, it's going to take some time. He can do it, you know. Uh, but you know, it just it just all worked out, I mean ventables. I think he was going to do real well. Oklahoma, Hey what if
what if Lincoln went the next three games? Then one? Wow? You know when we talk about how good they are. And by the way, Kavid Williams would never quit right now in that season. He's not a quitter at all. He shouldn't. Yeah, I certainly hope nothing like that happens. That would said a horrible president a way. Yeah all right, Richard, thanks so much, man, appreciate it. Enjoying it, so thank
you and enjoying it. Yeah, you know, I hope he does it because I feel like Christian McCaffrey sort of set a precedent right when he sat out a bold game. Now somebody does something like this, like okay, then there's gonna be more guys. Oh, by the way, his seventh year in the NFL, some seven years eighth okay, so eighth year total from Yeah, if the seven years, he would have been eighth year his senior year, right eight years ago. So we got three minutes. Let's
go with the Jed finish. All right, let's just play this one talking about injuries. But then there's a second question he's talking because the injury question was intended to ask what's going on with the quarterback? So he didn't really say anything about the quarterbacks. Then he got asked what's by Justin Spears, what's going on with the quarterback situation? Let's play that. We're in a good spot there. I think we're we're pretty close to everybody being able to
play. I think we'll see where Polito lies here over the next couple of days where he is health wise. But other than that, my goal is to be able to have everyone dressed and ready to play come Saturday night, and then we're with the quarterbacks. Right now, we have two ones justin we have two really good ones. Is where I'm at. So we'll see what that looks like come Saturday at seven thirty. But right now, I
know that I feel really good. I looked at where our guys fit in in the PAC twelve, and I think they've thrown seventeen touchdowns among the two of them. We have seven interceptions. We're seventy three percent completion. We are another additional I think four touchdowns by Jaden on the ground, and so I think we combined for twenty one touchdowns. I believe it is, and we're over. I think we'd be fourth in the conference if they were one.
But so we'll just wait and see what that looks like, see how progresses this week, see how healthy everybody is, and then go from there. So another answer answer, Okay, we're not you know, we're not gonna We're not gonna get him to say no. You know we're gonna find out on Saturday, you know, the warm ups or whatever it would be. I would be I would be shocked or surprised if it's not. It's
not even if Jade's one hundred percent healthy. You just look at how the two guys have played over the course of the time, the games that they've played in, and Jay uh know, if a has been a better quarterback. It's that simple. How how just quickly, I know you have like a minute left. How short is his leash? Then that's a good question. First couple of drives. What it looks like he's out there scattered and he's missing easy throws and stuff like that. Yeah, and he hasn't done
that all year. You haven't seen him, That's what I haven't done that. I think you write him until you can't do it anymore. And if if he if he does a miss if he does a Mississippi State Jayden, then you kind of go with him. Yeah. But he but guess what, that ain't gonna happen. He doesn't do that, No, you know he Yeah, I mean, you know, the Lord didn't come out of the Mississippi State game. Right right after that horrible first quarter. I'm like,
I was pulling my hair out tow him to take him out. You, you and everybody else. Yeah, and he never he stuck with him and he was still staying with him all the way up until he got hurt. So all right, man, that was fun. Thank you to Tim Couch for being here. That was a great That was a great, great thing. And Brian Peterson nice job with some of the analysis. They think about it way more than we do, Steve. Yeah, just what they get paid. That's what they do. All right. Hey, thanks for
being here. We'll be back tomorrow more stuff, so, uh, be sure to be here. Talk to you tomorrow.
