I'm Steve, He's Jay, and then we have Jason with breaking news season high on the Balls. Okay, it's official. Arizona baseball head coach Chip hell Probably announced today the addition of Kevin Vans to the walkout staff as an assistant coach near pitching coach.
Let's see if that solves any of the problems. Yeah, I mean, this guy's got the credentials. He's a young guy for sure. Um, he's a very young guy. Comes out of Boston College. Um it was two years is the is the pitching coach there? He got three players drafted, UM out of out out of BC. UM got his team got they got Boston College to the NCAA tournament for the first time since I think twenty sixteen, is what I saw. So clearly a guy with some credentials,
A young guy. Um. You know I'm not saying that Chips old, but he's not young right Yeah. Uh so you know, we'll see how that how that works, So both the softball and baseball have a new pitching. He's also going to be helping with their recruiting efforts as a while, right, he's a recruiting coordinator. Yeah, yeah, okay um. The Arizona Track and Field finished their final day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships on
Saturday to wrap up their collegiate outdoor season. A Tayley Bonds capped off her record setting season with the fourth place finished in the one hundred meter hurdles on the final day for the Wall Cuts. She was amazing. Yeah, I wanted to see if we try to get her on again as you did you watch the finals? Did you watch? No? But I saw the video of her running straight down. I'm like, dang, you know what's the first thing I'd say, what do you think about when you're going down?
Don't hit them? Don't don't hit one? Do you have your eye on one thing? And you just kind of you know what you had her on. That was very impressive. I didn't because it say how you finished, right? But you don't know? But in the video, yeah you didn't know. You didn't know, and you knew she didn't win because you would been excited. But you're thinking that's that's pretty amazing. Yeah, pretty much. Have you ever tried to jump over those hurdles? They're tall? Yeah?
Yeah, no, I wouldn't. I've tried. I wasn't able to they are they are tall. Step and nibbles, stepie quick that. Yeah, you adn't doing that? Okay? Yeah. Um. The Arizona Athletics and Arizona Football today announced the promotional schedule for the upcoming twenty twenty three football season. UM. The home opener scheduled forces September two versus Northern Arizona UM.
Arizona will also play six home games at Arizona Stadium in twenty twenty three, including visits from the packetball flows, UCLA, Washington, organ State in Utah. Uh, they announce homecoming and all all that stuff. When is home coming? Um? I didn't see that? Okay, yeah, stud on that one. No, okay, I think they just figured that out. Yeah, I want I would you play another game in Vegas? I want to go back to Vegas. We're not doing that for a while.
I don't think the biggest basketball basketball they're going to play Vegas in basketball. Michigan State Michigan States in California, who's the Vegas? They have a game of Big Alabama's from Phoenix. I don't know how it's too old dudes talking about Okay, um, some national news Toronto's rap Toronto Raptors all start a guard Fred van Vleet has declined in twenty two point a million dollar player option
and will become an unerstricted free Asian in July. Can you imagine the rolling the dice on something like that, Steve, because he doesn't know if he's gonna get more than that somewhere he thinks he is. Yeah, but yeah, I don't think you will. But I think you might want to go to a new like scene, new scenery, a different better team probably you know, such play money. Yeah. Um, would you guys mind if you did end up in Phoenix or would you not? One? No?
That would be good for them. Okay, they need they need something right there they won't have. I don't think they're gonna have. We talk about Chris Paul or or Andre Okay, they need they need shooters for sure. That that whole trade kind of everyone's excited. I don't know why. Yeah, I mean showed it definitely did. Yeah, Yeah, we'll see Miami's Tyler Hero, who was upgraded to questionable. He's expected to see before tonight's
game UM after suffering a fractured hand in Game one versus the Bucks. All Right, well, you know they need all the help they can get. Man, Sure, I think I still think this this thing's over tonight. Yeah, I do as well. They're just again we keep saying it, the Nuggets, they're just better. Yeah, they say they're just They're just they're you know, yeah, you got yo. But it's not like a bunch of flashy guys. They just go out and kick your ass exactly.
That's why I liked them so much. And I think if Murray, who hadn't been healthy the last two years place, I'm thinking they're gonna be good. Yeah, for sure, I'm moving forward. As long as they're healthy're gonna be the best team, if not one of the best things in the because they're simple good. Yeah, like they play basketball the right way.
So yeah yeah. Um. The Giants franchise running back sae Quon Barkley confirmed after the Sequon Barkley Youth Football Camp in New Jersey City UM today that he will not be at his team's many mandatory mini camp this week. Um, Barkley still hasn't signed his franchise at tender, so he's still questioning if he's
gonna be back. Yeah, money situations again. You know, one of those running backs though that can't you know, can't get a deal right and uh and they just you know, they just kind of churn them out. So, Um, the Jecksons are adding JJ Watch to their ring of honor on October one when they host TJ and the Pistwick Steelers. He's you know yeah, I mean he's he's the face of He was the face of that franchise for for a while years. Yeah, so called him to that.
Um, I don't have any other all right, Um, just some Sugar Skulls number that they won on Saturday, big win on Saturday, forty seven forty three against Duke City. It wasn't an amazing game. Um. Once again, I know we keep we keep trumpeting this, but this game was. It was just nuts from the very first, very first possession of the game. Uh, the Sugar Skulls get a strip on a on a on a sack scoop and score and it was just nuts from then on. Neither
team led by more than a touchdown the whole rest of the game. It came down to the very Actually they had one extra play so went beyond the clock. Um. The Sugar Skulls were up by four. Duke City had the ball on the two and a half yard line. The quarterback ran up the middle. Uh, he got tackled, tried to reach for the goal line with the ball dropped the ball UM it hit short of the goal line. Uh. There was a big scramble for it in the corner of the
end zone. Tucson came up with the ball, but they challenged whether or not he got to the line before he fumbled. UM clearly had not. Sugar Skulls whin the win the challenge and win the game, but it was it was a well. The Sugar Skulls sure or to take the league with sixteen seconds left, and Duke said he still had the time to go down
there and almost get a score to win the game. No lead is safe, none, so I'm not I've been I spent some time with some Diamondback fans over the weekend, and I'm not aware that they're doing this creaty, but they're doing well, and I was just gonna say. So they have a lead, a nice little lead on the three half games on the Dodgers. They're playing out of their minds and the Dodgers were only three games back.
Well, the Dodgers went the Dodgers went on a on a road trip against the Reds in the Phillies. They got lucky that they had to play the Reds when they called that kid up, that's just tearing up the league. So they lost. They lost two out of three of the Reds, and both losses were on walkoffs. And then they lost two out of three to the to the to the Phillies, and one of those losses was a walk up. So they lost four games and three of them on walking and
they lost a little ground on the Diamondbacks. I don't even know, they're three and a half games behind the I don't know who's on that dumb roster. But Lovella was about to be fired last year. Yeah, no, he's well, I know Zach Gallen, who's a pitcher on my fantasy team. He's just he's like eight and three or something like that. He's he's leading, he's leading candidate for the cy Young right now, that that's what guys. I don't know who the rest of them are, but they're they're
playing really well. They're in first place, and they're first place by three and a half. So um, you know, I'm still not sitting here thinking that the Diamondbacks haven't because they you know, they got it. Still got to get to the end of the season, but certainly, you know, and they gave and they've recently gave Lavallo an extension through twenty twenty five, so well, he's gonna be around the extra year. So here's here's another one. I got a text from one of our listeners this morning about
the Oklahoma picture. Oh yeah, uh leaving Oklahoma, and I didn't look at it. I just you just sent to me, and I'm taking, wouldn't it be great if she came here and it would change the game for Arizona And she's going back to the breast But the girl is a stood well and I see that without any reservation, you know. And that goes to the thing that we talked a little bit about with with Robins on the transfer port. The transferport, you don't even have to not like where you are
and say, you know what, I want to go somewhere else. You know, she talked about how much she loved being there. Her and you know her, there was a in the story because I read the story that her and the coach, you know, just you know, gushed on each other and stuff like that. But she just wanted to go home. She was the best player in Oklahoma's team. She was the MVP of the or MP most Outstanding Player in the College World Series. Um, you know,
she won a bunch of games. She was the best pitcher in the country and says, you know what, I don't want to play here anymore. I want to go home, and she's gonna go back to Nebraska when you know, I mean, the belief is that Oklahoma is gonna win another championship next year. And yet she said, you know, I won my two championships. I'm going somewhere else. So, I mean, seen her played last couple of years on she just fantastic. Yeah, it's just fantastic.
Kind of reminded me of of Jenny Finch in that dominating type of way, the dominant picture. Yeah, fantastic. She did have their one loss though this year. Good for her. I remember I was earli in the year. Yeah, she was the one who lost the one game they went with
fifty eight and one or something like that. Fantastic crazy number. Yeah, tomorrow we'll have a you, a former you of a softball player on to talk about all this and what the world has come to since she's been gone in terms of college softball, the state of the state of the state of the situation in the sport. Okay, for this is this is a George Marty's question from sports Car. Oh yeah, go ahead and spot showtime Car Time Car. Wayne Gretzky's jersey from his last NHL game, How much you
think it went for uh auction? Last? Uh? The five hundred thousand not enough? Well, seventy five hundred, see if I thought seven hundred seven fifteen some fifteen. I had a question for him because I was with some cousin who who's a cousin of his, and he has a couple of sports illustrated and I sent that to to George. He said, as like maybe a thousand, five hundred thousand, five hundred two thousand dollars fifteen thousand
dollars for for gretz Cree wore a jersey for his last game. Well, he sent you that, he said, I got treeted out by sports. In fact, we're gonna have him on soon to talk about the reveal with Chris. Remember that car, that card, that little card that he had, how much how much it was worth on because he paid he paid an X amount for it? But now what's the real value of the cards? The final little thing. I found it, Actually I didn't find. My
son found it in some of my in laws. My mother likes to live where my son lives now, so in the garages a bunch of boxes. So he was going through some boxes. He found four football programs. Five football you have a football programs, one from nineteen fifty eight and three from nineteen fifty nine. They were so cool. Yeah, you go in there and you look at the pictures. The guy who was the dean of boys at my high school, at Sarrel High School, the late Bill Isme,
was on that team. Carl Haslett, who was the president or the executive director, oh, the chairman of the board of the Conquista doors all the way back to when I was covering golf. He was on the team. Carl Haslett was his name. He was like he was at lawyer. I probably not because he was really old back then. Um, but going through I mean Jim LaRue was the was the UH was the football coach of Fred
Ank Junior was the basketball coach or Fred innk was the basketball coach. UM. The program was like probably thirty pages, really cool with pictures of all the players, and they played b white the four games and the fifth and what was doing it was just I was in a box and I don't know, you know, I was asking my wife, would you know, would your dad or your mom have gone to those games and kept those programs for some reasons. She had no idea why those would have been there, But
they are. I'm gonna see if they want to move at the u of A. But really cool because I remember those and the programs would cost twenty five cents. Twenty five cents. They're all black and white, but all you know, stories and pictures of everybody, and it had uh it had a page on other sports and but you know, a throwback. It was really cool to go through those, those those programs, the four from nineteen fifteen, one from the year after the year I was born, so I
was I was a baby when those games were played. But it's Colorado. There's a Colorado by u UM, I think Wyoming and I can't remember who the other who the other team went Idaho, Idaho one are the teams that they played in on the in those games. And like Idaho was a big deal, right, Uh that they were. They were kind of you know, there hadn't been this division yet of the schools the way they are now, where Idaho is like basically a minor league, uh college college program.
They're really cool. Okay, all right, let next break, we're gonna have Greg Hanson. We'll see if he what he what he gleaned, if anything from our interview with Bobby Robbins and just some of his thoughts on what's
what's going on in uh in football. So we'll be right back. This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez
on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. Subscribe now to the podcast on the iHeart Radio while just surgery, I on the Ball and welcome back to On the Volcano Fox Sports fourteen. Fie on Steve Rivera, He's Jagon's awsome. Now on the phone. We have great cancer from the Arizona. Do they start? Greg? How are you doing? I'm doing good. How is your vacation? It was good? The cool climbs of northern New Mexico. Are you the cool climbs somewhere? Oh? Yeah, it was freezing today. I
was freezing playing golf. Cool. Whoe is me? Whoe is me? I have to be freezing and wet and laying under the fan. I mean, I have to be cool, wet and laying under the fan to be freezing. Here in two sons, I've got a space heater on right and so here it's gonna be about one hundred. So. So did you listen to the Bobby Robbins the interview? Yeah, that was terrific. You guys did a good job. What did you get for What did you get from
it? Because, I you know, I mean, there's only so much he can say, but you know, I mean, you know, my big takeaway was the whole why there has to be a law, you know, why the Feds have to handle this? What do you what do you think? What did What were your thoughts on what he talked about? I thought it was impressive that he is basically the first cadish step up to to go public and try and get the Congress to act, trying to get the
government to act um to get some federal oversights. And because isn't that what has to happen now? Well, the next step to regulate all of this stuff. Well, that seems like Bobby Robbins is front and center. Yeah, we were talking about that because I didn't understand why they would want the federal government to handle this until he said that, and he and I, you know, I knew this, but I didn't think about it that all the states are doing something different, so there's has to be one place where
it corrals everything. So that did make all the sense in the world. And that's why he's the University of president. I'm not because he thought of that and I did it. Yeah, you know, it comes at the same time where it's kind of under the radar. I think Friday that the IRS came out and said that UM nonprofit collectives offering tax deductions could be illegal. Yeah, and that would shut down nil stuff right away, or at
least make it for a more even playing field. And because I think the current structure isn't sustainable and ending the tax deductibility, it could could be a game changer for a school like Arizona. Yeah, no question, yeah, no, yeah, no doubt. Well for a lot of people, right because I you know, if if you said, okay, I'll donate if I can get it, you know, if I can get a tax deduction
for it to say, well, you don't get that anymore. How many people are still going to donate, and so it's certainly going to have an effect on how much money is out there. Oh big, I'm so. I mean something has to give, doesn't it. I mean all these changes in il the portal, they're they're bad for for the future of college athletics.
I think do you think let me see this because we're kind of old dudes here sitting down around the table, Um, do you think that it's we think it's bad because we're old, and it's we're used to something else, right, right, and the kids in there saying you don't know? Do you know? Shut up? Bles man night. This is what we this is what it's coming to. Well, I think the portal is bad in this regard. Remember jamaral Baker played for Arizona a couple of years ago.
Yeah, he's gone from Kentucky to Arizona, to Fresno State and now in New Mexico. I mean that's successive. Yeah, the portal is great, but it can't be excessive and and be healthy, can't it. Right, Well, we're talking about Jordan Brown last week. Right, you heard he's he's going to it. He's going to his fourth school in his sixth and it will play in his sixth year. Now, again, a part of that was COVID and they got the free year, so that probably be
one less school that he would be going to. But nonetheless, you're talking about a kid who who was a starter here and I don't remember if you were at that Tommy Lloyd lunch, remember when you just after you got here and you got asked about Jordan Brown, he said, I sat Jordan down, I told him he's the guy, you know, he's our guy. You know, we're going, you know, and we're gonna And then the next day he went into the transfer portal, Yeah, and goes to Louisiana.
Louisiana right right, doesn't make any sense. None of this makes sense. Uh, And it's not just for plain time. It's then I ll obviously, but plain time and maybe just homesickness. He saw the Oklahoma Oklahoma picture. Pitch, you're leaving now, um, hey let me ask you the Oklahoma picture left? Yeah? Yeah, Jody, Yeah, she left. She wants to go back and play Nebraska where she's from. Jumped in. Yeah, she jumped in the portal today. It's exactly what I said.
I thought if she came, she'd come to Arizona. There was a back in the top three. Top talked too. Yeah, yeah, yeah. She's from Nebraska. She lives like an hour from Omaha, or she grew up at like an hour from Omaha. And it sounds like she wants to go back and play at the Rusk, Nebraska. Yeah, but that's where it sounds so so so so, Greg, we talked a lot about a lot of different things. We'll go back to the president if you have any thoughts, but we just I just asked Jay here and Jason, how
would you grade the U of A overall athletically this past year? In on field performance? They're going to finish almost fiftieth in the Learfield Cup. You know which major is sport by sport across the board for everybody. Um, I was looking up the other day and they're going to be somewhere between forty
eight and fifty fourth. And we all remember when they were in the top ten about ten years in a row and behind yeah yeah, so in that regard they've they've slipped and it hasn't been just reason it's been ten years, but they had a lot of positive grow too. Uh, just in the big two Bobby Robbins hiring Tommy Lloyd and Jet Fish. I mean talk about at the school Arizona's level. I say, hired anybody but those two guys who wouldn't have been a home run, but two hires have been a home
run. Yeah. And I said to look at Bobby Robbins for having good instincts, I said, he think because remember how bad everybody wanted um um that the guy from Sandose State. Um. Yeah, Oh, Brent Brennan, you know. And I'm like, he would have been kind of an average coach here and I don't know, but I don't know if he because I don't know. I don't know that he would have generated the stuff that the Jed Fish has had just with his enthusiasm and his sort of his creativity,
you know, uh, and the way he does things. I don't know that Brent Brennon would have been that guy. And he would have brought in a lower level of assistant coaching staff and he wouldn't have been the demanding guy that he is and getting his staff almost twice the size of what Keevin someone has and the money they've spent on read I mean, Lowell Stevens is only ten years old and they've already redone what fifteen million dollars of it?
Yeah. Yeah, because yet Fish won't let up. He insists on having better stuff. You didn't give me a grade grade? What does that translate into the fiftieth of the series. Yeah, give him a grade for that for the program. I think Arizona's a B minus in Power five Sports. Yeah, we did the same, Steve said. C First, he's pretending no, no, no, it's well fiftieth, fiftieth and the thing I know, but it's not great. Yeah, it's a see, it's a
average. Hey. So going back to going back to the Robins interview, I asked him, I said, you were a bunch of old guys and you're you're even older than both Steve and I. So I just had to throw that out there. But, um, are you do you think we're gonna like what college football is going to be in the next say, five ten years? Or are we are we two hung up on what's being lost? You know, the tradition and the stuff that we grew up with. Are you do you think we're gonna like it. I think it's going to
be an adjustment. But I also look back look at the historical perspective of Tucson in college sports. The u of A was responsible for starting the Border Conference and getting going out of the you know, the low minor leagues. Then the u of A was responsible for starting to whack Dick Closson did that. Then the u of A John Shaffer was responsible for getting Arizona into the Pac Ten. So Arizona's evolved evolved, evolved over those last ninety years.
So I think, what if anybody's going to evolve again successfully, it would be Arizona because they've proven you can do it in Arizona in Tucsons. Yeah, but overall, are we gonna like the game and what it what it becomes with you know, the you know, if if we wind up with you know, four Super conferences, or do we like you know, are we gonna like five years down the road that Texas and Oklahoma are in there in the SEC and that USC and UCLA are in the Big Ten. Are
we just going to get used to it? Are we gonna like it? Is it gonna suck? I mean, what do we think my answer would be, over the last ten days or so, every time I turn on a postseason college sport in a tournament, LSU is front and center because LSU has all the money in the world and we've all been to Baton Rouge, haven't you guys? Bot That to me, that's a place at a destination place. But the Bunny has made it so how in college delew how and
I don't want to keep watching LSU and Florida win everything. So you're saying, no, it's it's a changing game. The landscape has changed, obviously, sec. I don't even know how Betton Rush has become this place, but it was easily the scariest place I've ever went to to watch a game. I'm not joking. Fans, I mean it. Fans are crazy clime.
It's awful. It's always so human, your glasses fog up. I wanted to go in that uh that game where they got their skulls crushed when Willie to Atoma got you know, we wanted to go to that game and we just never did pull the trigger on it. And then as we watched the game, we were happy we were not there. But you know,
I mean, I I don't know. I mean college football. I mean we've been talking, we've been talking about Clemson, Georgia and uh OHIW to date and Alabama for how many years now, and it's still going to be that is I don't I don't see if I don't see that changing anytime soon. And if that's what it's going to be like, you got to you gotta take your pleasure or your fun out of little things like beating Oregon or
something. Yeah, And I mean I watched the NC Double A Track Championships on and off over the weekend, and every winner was from Georgia or Florida or l Sue just there were no there was no PAC twelve presents and the ANC Double A track me that that's totally changed in fifteen years. Yeah, yeah, what Oregon used to be an Arizona beat Oregon this year. Specifically, Hey, Greg, let me ask you a question we talked about this last week. I've asked Jay and some of the other guys who have called
in. Assuming, assuming of course, Arizona and issue separate, UVA goes to the Big twelve issue decides to stay. Who has had it better since the PAC twelve PAC ten was initiated in seventy eight. Who has had it better athletically, issue overall or a overall. I'd say it's about fifty five forty five for Arizona. I've looked up that stuff and tracted over the years. But what is a sue known for. They don't have a signature sport except men's golf, that's it. And remember when the league began as U
was number one a track, they had the best basketball program. They dominated Arizona football to that point, but it's all changed. Maybe fifty five is kind of cut into too close because we'll say, is you're sports known for? At least Arizona's known for men's basketball. ASU baseball program went off the tracks about twelve years ago, and that was their number one sport in the
last thirty years, So I would say Arizona is easily more attractive. I'm sure hate to see him split up, though, because being from Utah, I've seen what the Utah be I used sport has done. That's correct the fan basis, you know in those cities. Yeah, I mean well, I'm I got mixed feelings about that because I you know, I stopped going to gain anything up at ASU because I just can't. I can't be around
their fans. Um I'll tell you a funny story someday that I can't tell on the on the air, But um, you know there's so there's that. But on the other hand, you know, even though I hate the rivalry, and when I say I hate the rivalry, I hate those games against Arizona State in any sport because I hate losing them. Right, I don't think about going into those games. I don't think it's gonna feel good
to beat these guys. Going into all those games, I think I don't want to play this game because I don't want to take the chance that there's those Arizona's gonna lose and I'm gonna I'm gonna hate that. So, you know, I do have mixed feelings about it though, because I the rivalry is still is something that you know, it's been a part of my life, you know, since I was you know, since as long as I
can remember, back went back. You know, I grew up in the upper at a time when as you just kicked the crap out of Arizona every year, and it was a given that that's what was going to happen until until Dick broke that streak back in uh you know, in the in the in the Larry excuse you broke that streak early eighties, you know, so, Um, I don't know I would. I know I would miss the rivalry as much as I know I would not miss the ASU fans. Well,
what in you guys opinion? What are the two biggest some basketball games every year at mcale Center still and a SU Yeah here got to be second. And with the UCLA gone now, I mean as the number one attraction that makes hial Center all year long. And that's that, and that's hasn't been and that's not great. I mean, I know they had that crap pass win with with that half course shot this last game, but it hasn't
It really hasn't been much of a rivalry over the year. Did that little stretch when she had a little stretch, uh, when Luke was leaving and all that kind of stuff, But you know, it hasn't been much of a rivalry. And if that's gonna be the best game we're gonna get, we're gonna be looking for other teams that are gonna make it better. Like you know, Duke coming into town and that kind of stuff. Hey, how do you like the schedule? Man? How do you like the schedule?
Basketball? Wow? As good as it's been in twenty years. Yeah, finally, that was so unprized that Tommy would take that step because he didn't have to. The fans have probably become used to playing almost nobody in the pre conference, and now he gets five of those games in one year. That's I mean, that's in the heart of the low years. Yeah, the fun time, fun time. It Stabbis is who you are,
where you need to get better. I'm not sure it's a guarantee that you're gonna play better in March, but it gets you ready for March, and no one else in the league does it, right, Nay? One last question before you go out? Did you have a quite uh? Your your boy doll content has become a name for USC, but he says, I ain't going not a surprise. Probably Texas has got to be a better athletic program than USC. Where would you rather live Austin, Texas or LA that's
not even yeah, no, it'd be Austin times two without questions. Yeah, yeah, I mean I don't. I wouldn't see him unless I was living in the Dorman La at the school. I ain't gonna travel unless or unless he's got a reason to leave, like somebody's gonna, you know, maybe creeping up to try and get rid of him or something. You know, his his coaching, his football coaching hires haven't been great. So let's
see what happens there. Yeah, he was. I think we all really thought highly of him, didn't I. Yeah, obviously, he's like he's a guy from my area, and I'm thinking, how did this guy become who he became? Mister personality exactly? That's right. Yeah, he can take money from any past you want, you name it. I'm good at it. Yeah. Okay, Hey, Greg, thanks a whole bunch for doing this on short orders to appreciate it. Warm up up, Yeah, seriously, Mann, turn on the space heater. Thank you. Guys talked
to a little later. Appreciate it. Greg Hanson from the Stars. You know when when you ask them the question about the asu Arizona think that's right up, Greg's out. I think it's always doing that research. I think I think it's about running five to six trade. But that's what I said. I said, Look, I think everybody can compare the major programs that you can say issues had it better than Arizona, but the gap between the
basketball programs is so why that that puts Arizona on the part. The only really one thing they have over you, you specifically, hasn't been to the you'd give it the arms, you'd give an armor leg to get to that Rose Bowl, and pretty much, I mean, I think I agree with you guys. It's fifty five. It's yeah, it's close, but I think you give I think you lean Arizona, especially with the perspective that they
at one time had at all until they don't anymore. Man kicking and screaming to the you've ever read the stories of the of the political piece of them getting and they literally got dragged to the Pac ten. They did not want to go because they loved being the big dog in the whack and they had a bowl game to go to every year because that's why the Fist Bowl was was formed. Yeah, because you know that, you know, I'll just say and Weaverhart the you know president, a couple of presidents ago um was not Yeah, sure right, and it showed. So how you're on the R and I in the ball. Yeah this is what Hey, man, I want to talk about realignment. Okay, what do you got? Hey man? I feel like a really the way I feel about
realignment, it's like the sugar schools. Man. I don't care what sense because I think you're you're yeah, why don't you what do you mean? Hey? When it first happened, I was like, hey, that's kind of cool. But now it's just like, yeah, well that's what I'm gonna say, is it because you really, wherever they want up is going to be fine with you? Is that? Is that what you're saying? Yeah? Man, it's like they go to the Big twelve, that's fine, stay in the pack, then that's fine. I feel I feel the
same way. Jay. I couldn't tell you why because it doesn't impact me as a person. It just doesn't same same for you, Nico, are you so well? Nico's only like twelve years old though, so, I mean, he hasn't been through the rich history experience, the rich history of the PAC ten and the Pac twelve, the way we have Steve. Hey, man, I'm gonna watch it whatever conference. Yeah, what does your dad say, because he's kind of like us, old schoolish. I don't
know, man, I haven't talked to him a couple of days. Get a job, Nico, We need to get you a job. Hey man, I got a Yeah? Man, you did you find a new one? Yeah? You said you would quit your last one? Yeah? I quit that yeah, bad job? Right? So you just so the bottom line is you you really, it's just wherever they wind up, they wind up, and you'll be fine with that. You'll watch and just let's get it done or do you even care when it gets done? I don't care
when it gets done? Now, all right, all right, okay, well you'll be there right. Happen when it happens. Man, Steve was right from the beginning, exactly. Thank you, Nico. The wisdom of a twenty eight year old, a part time worker. Thank Unico. A man, somebody's got something pizza pies around, bring one to my place. Thanks. Thanks. I'm with you. You know what, I'm sure there's a lot of people. You don't like that. It's because it's tiring. I mean, I know, part you just let's get it done. Yeah,
and you know, whatever happens happens. Yeah. And look, I mean I grew up here and from the time I was a little kid watching you have a football, you know, it was a big deal to me, and and watching watch him in the whack and wanting to be at a SU and Yu and all those teams. And then they got to the Pac ten. It's like, okay, now we can go to the Rose Bowl. And then all those years and some great you know, some great football,
some great years, some great games. Um uh and then you know, so, I mean it's kind of been a big kiss in my life for a lot. Well, so every fall. So in seventy eight, you must have been eighteen ish, Yeah, I get the excitement. You're eighteen, you get this. Okay, we're the school, new conference, the conference in the West ul An usc every year. And when you're young, you're influenced by a lot of different things. And now you're you're one
hundred years old, and now just how I feel. It's kind of want to keep that. So do you? Does it care to you? Not really, because I just you know, it's gonna whatever, whatever happens, is gonna happen. They're gonna end up playing somewhere, get somebody. That's how I feel. I just but I'm that. I'm that guy who hangs onto my T shirts for twenty years. Dave. You know, they're they're they're torn out at the armpits and all that kind of stuff, But I
hang on to them because they give me comfort. As my mom would say, there look better like rags than they do. I know, And my mom hated that I was not allowed to wear anything that was torn when I was growing up, because if you if you got if your pants are torn at the knee. People think you're poor. She hated that. But that's a whole another story. But but again, but the point being that I keep, you know, like my I've got T shirts in my drawer that
from from when I was coaching high school baseball in twenty ten. I hear you, I hear you. But it's not gonna this is gonna still gather dust. Um. I think it's a no lose situation to this point. Now it's just that media damn deal where they could lose money or it's not gonna be very well. Again, if they don't get the money that they want to get, then that throws everything up in the ends, and then then then you'll be wearing people. But no, I I just um again
being the guy that likes things just so. Um. You know, I go as I said, I go to the restaurant, I order the same thing. I like my steak cook the same way. Um, I don't. I rarely try anything new on that stuff. That's all. I kind of want things to be the way they were, And I know they can't be the way they we're at us, but we can be as close to it as we can get by staying in the mind also admit that the conference will not be as sexy you'd like that one, because it's not gonna be
You can't lose those two guys. Yeah, you just can't. You just can't, you know, And there's nothing you can replace it with. Yeah, you know, the two hottest girls in the room have left the building, right, So it's kind of like, Okay, let's find some more hot girls. But it's gonna be hard harder to find. And you won't that hot. You won't. You're not saying data, it's not that hot. Say he is definitely not that hot. Fresnel State's not that hot.
No, boys States not that hot. There is anybody out there, you know they you know, I want to ask Robbins. I said, you know, dude, you want to you want to break some news for us and tell us that a TV deal has been signed for a record amount and that, oh, how Saint Michigan are in the PAC twelve. No, that would have been cool. Yeah, sure, what do you think Bobby you got that? You didn't give us that. No, Jay, this will be the last time I'm on the don't even ask PA to get it.
That is just the stupidest question I've ever heard this was an intelligent show come to the wrong place. Yeah, well he knows that going in. Everybody knows that going in. But um, you know, and again in the end, yes, in the end, I'm with you guys in that wherever it winds up, we'll be fine with it. We'll go with it. Um. But if given the choice, let's let's let's let's stay with what we got. And I'm okay with that. Yeah. Well, the one thing he did say is, you know, the travel and all that
stuff, you know, it is what it is. Yeah, I mean, he you know, and he did he kind of he kind of agreed with us on that one. He said, they don't really know yet. I want that thing's gonna pencil out and the cost of what it's gonna be. You know, you're gonna get all this extra money, but what the overall cost is going to be, and not just the dollars and the dollars, but the you know, the cost you the wear and tear on athletes and stuff like that, the wear and tear on the sports. Um,
that's gonna be like, yeah, exactly. You don't know until you know the effect, because you can say, oh, we're gonna be okay, Like, as Jason, what do you know? Right, you won't know until you go through it, right, since you know, my school sucks, my study stuck because I don't have time to do all this stuff. There's too much no, no, no, not enough time in the day, right, yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't know. So okay, right, the six minutes here left. Then we have the Nugget game
tonight yet five thirty. You see what if they end tonight? You see if they do or they don't. What do you think if they do endy tonight, who do you think gets finals MVP? Oh? Joker? Joker? I think yeah, okay, I would agree, But I just wanted to see if you Michael Porter's playing pretty well up until like last game, right, didn't he? Like really, he's been playing horrible. I mean
Murray would have a chance. Yeah, that's maybe Murry, but but he's not the face of the franchise, you know, And it's kind of obvious. It's like when you played when Averyzona played in the ninety seventh tournament, right, did you think Miles was the MVP. No, Mike Baby was the MVP. They won that because of right right? Right? No? I feel but he didn't have all the points, but he had equal him out. But he You're right, no, I was. I wanted to
go. I definitely thought Mike maybe that was the MVP of that of that final total, no doubt. Totally agree. But they want it, so they want it. No, I agree, Yeah, I mean you have to give it to to just he's like you said, he's the face, he's the guy, and he better damn score twenty five points. Yeah, really right, he looks just like a dude. Yeah, that dude man that. It's been some funny comparison. They've been comparing him to to um the guy in Rocky four, Um, the Russian guy Draggle. They've been
comparing him to him the most. Then somebody compared who somebody compared him to the uh to the German guy in saving Private Ryan that uh god, I wouldn't know that. That that they captured him and he had killed they'd killed one of their guys, and then they capped him and then there was a big fight over whether they're going to let him go. Um, you know, this might be a totally stretch and it's not the same because I know
it's not big country. Remember Bigig country yea from Oklahoma State. Just the dude he's that. You could be that guy. Um some Brian Scalabrine from from usc another guy. Just you look at him. He's got no definition, definition to his to his arms, right, he just looks like a guy who just got up off the couch as opposed to you see some of these other guys and they got you know, bulky muscles. He's the dude you see in those videos who are hey, you can I play with you
guys at depict up games and you know they need schools. You h Billy Hoyle Bill Billy that no from h white Man, white Man can't. I just said, sitting on the side and say okay, we'll take you because you're tall jumpers, and yeah, I'll take you. Talk him any day. Yea. So it's been fun and it's waking awaking a lot of people who had it's in the NBA because they don't watch it through all the year. No, they watch it now. Yeah so okay, no, yeah,
yeah they he's gotta score twenty five points. Yeah yeah, I went on, I went on, I had is the first this is the Twitter. Jamal Murray's got to score hit two three points. This is the first NBA Finals game that I've had any money on. Put just put a little bit just to watch you hit this one. Yeah, you know, well it's not This isn't about who wins and losing the game. The guys just got to do that. They could do that, Blues, they could do
that and win. It was a it was a boosted thing on on DraftKings. So if you're on draft Kings and you follow us on draft Kings, there's a boost for two plus one hundred on Yoki scoring twenty five points and Murray having two three pointers. You said free money, and we're really unhappy because that's like saying, hey, dude, you got a perfect game going. Yeah, I think Yokis is gonna come out, you know, score dominant or double just trying to end the series right now or tonight. I
guess I could see him and Murray going off for big nights. Just putting this away. It's funny because when when um, when the Celtics beat fell behind three one, Yeah, everybody's saying, oh, they can still win this, they can still win this. There is nobody saying that the Heat can still win this. Yeah. Um, I never thought Boston could win.
I'm surprised they made it seven. I was shocking to me. But the way the Nuggets played, they're just too good, like it should honestly be over by now if they didn't know how that collapse kind of no one quarter in Game two, but just a better team. So are they Are they a worthy champion? Yeah? How will we think? How will we think of them in terms of in terms of being a you know that you know, because there's some teams that won the championship, you they want that
good. Well, you might not like this, but they're not the bubble champion where people really kind of you know what I'm saying, I guess because the Lakers are. But no, seriously, where will they rate you know some of the other teams that have won the championship. Do they have to
in another one to validate? No, they don't because I think if they went tonight, they're playoff record for this postseason at seventy seventeen a five, like that's the overall and they swept the Lakers, beat the Wolves in five, beat the Phoenix and six, and they're gonna be mind possiblaying five. And they had the best records off season. But all along the way except for this series, people thought they were gonna lose. Yeah, because no
one knows about them. But I mean, they're in Denver, they're stuck somewhere in the mid Well. I think they thought they were going to beat the Wolves in the first series. But yeah, but they thought they thought they were gonna lose to the Come on, I got them at eleven to one. Who's gonna get them? They were even worse before I got to them. Yeah, eleven to one. That's crazy. You never think that they were eleven to one. They were like the sixth best choice, which
is crazy. Were the best record? Well that's it. They had the best record, and yet people thought they weren't that good exactly. Yeah, so that's my masking. Well, people think they were really that good. Yeah, if they watched the playoffs, Yeah, I hope so anybody would, I mean, because you gotta see to believe it. Yeah, you wouldn't believe it because that's it right there now they have. You have to see it to believe it, and we're seeing it because because no one saw
it until now. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, all right, Well game five tonight, Yes, let's finish it.
