This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jakin Zalis on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen powered by Nova Insurance Services, ke Sure your most Prized possessions, Katie CR two S, and iHeart Radio Station. Good afternoon, everybody, welcome to I on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera. He's Jakins. Also got our guard Jason in Today. We're expecting the big show and if you're expecting the President, doctor Robbins. Now at

three, we've been pushed back about fifteen minutes. Yeah, we push back about fifteen minutes. We're still hoping to get him for the full half hour that we were planning on, but it'll be a quarter after or right after our first break, So hopefully you can stick around and uh, we'll ask whatever. Well, I think we're all kind of in the same place because what we want to know, right, everybody wants to know a lot of stuff. I don't know how much of that we'll get, but we'll kind

of got an understand. You know where things are right now, run I'm expecting, well what's your expect then we'll see what happened. Well, you know, one things we want to talk about is that summit that they had last weekend? What did they learn? Right? And what did they do

it? Why did they do it? And what did they learn? I think that that was a big kind of a big thing of what we wanted to talk about today, you know, and and why did not only why did they do the summit, but why did the University of Arizona do this? Yeah, that's another point. And then of course obviously the question everybody wants to know about the movement or not much longer? Yes? Yes, how much longer? So Jayen's last time you were tackled on a golf course?

Man, did you see that? That guy got driven down hard? Was so bizarre? And then they did everything's okay, Yeah, you're okay. Yeah, Well in the celebrate, you know, in the in the moment of the celebration, you see the caddy go whoa, whoa, like something. So I'm like, what's happening? And then then you saw it later here's just my luck on this, Steve. So, I was watching

that playoff for all, watching the whole thing. I mean, every shot, every shot, every shot, just before those guys come on to to before he comes on hit the put run in to the bathroom, of course. So I come out of my TV's on, I'm out hearing all the screaming, and I'm like, he didn't make that. And I come around the corner and they're celebrating. So I had had rewind it and rewatch it. It's you know, it's just not the same when you're when you when

you're watching the record. So Jason, he asked me, should I bet on Denver? This is exactly why. Yeah, everything he touches and doesn't touch it, it gets effected. It's crazy, man, every time, Like, yeah, I firmly believe that if I don't walk away from the TV, he doesn't make that shot. Probably not. Yeah, you're the butterfly effect. That was a hell of a thing. Seventy two feet Yeah, you know, well, you know, I see, I saw the

highlights on that. And I talk about this with you all time because I don't golf, but I do other things that you know require a momentum in your world of momentum, but it's not momentum, it's going on a great run. Because you know, you play you play basketball or whatever, you go on great runs. Golf is specific if you're playing really well, you have four days of great golf, and then we don't see you. It's like the dude that one a month ago, or he finished really high in

the cometary guy. Yeah, we may never see him again, uh Michael Block, Yeah right, we hadn't known who the he was. Okay, he finished his fifteenth in the PGA Championship, and his next round of competitive golf, he shoots in eighty one. Yeah right, I mean, and we never hear from him. We probably want, and but golf is like that where you just go on a stretch of four days where things cannot go wrong and you're just just dude. You get just this dude called zone.

Yeah yeah, and it happens. It does happen. It happens in a variety of levers for different things. But I think golf is one of them where you just what happened today, I don't know, I just did shot. I'm a firm believer in the zone as it relates to like golf. I believe that basketball. I believe that, you know, baseball, a guy gets into a hitting zone and just knocks the crap out of a period of time and then stops all of a sudden it just stops and then it

goes see and that's why it's not momentum. It's just zone zone where things cannot go wrong. It happens to be an other things and I'm thinking, what just happened? What just happened? I'll take it because I guess what. It doesn't last long. It doesn't last long. No, it doesn't. It doesn't. So anyways, if you're expecting to hear doctor Robbins, we are going to get him at a quarter after, so we'll stick around

for that. We'll keep chatting here. There's a lot of stuff going on over the weekend, but doctor Robbins will be here worth short at the fifteen after. He's a obviously a very busy guy. We felt fortunate just just to get him. So yeah, we'll see. We've got lots of questions, and then at four fifteen will have Greg Hanson. Right, we ask Greg Hanson to aid to listen and then to come on with some immediate reaction

to anything that Doctor Robbins might might say. You know, when when when when these guys come out and get interviewed and everybody starts, you know, pays attention. I'm there's gonna be some people listening to our show who probably don't listen to us every day because they want is he going to say something that's newsworthy? So and we'll see. You know, he's a smart guy.

He'll say what he can and he won't say what he's not supposed to say, you know, or maybe good lucky and say something he shouldn't. You know again, man, I'm you know, well, well, yeah, you know Da Barnes right, we'll our hat on that one. Did she announced for pregnancy here? You know, we're open for people breaking big games and we didn't asked the question. Jesus said, okay, no, cool. So then the the the Nuggets playing to night. The Nuggets play

tonight. I think I think they'll close over. I think they'll close it out. Yeah, it didn't want to go back to Miami. I mean, it could very easy to go back to Miami. But it's over. Yeah. The Nuggets are playing way too well. They're just there's too much for the heat, Like I haven't watching these games and the heat have you know the spurts where they look kind of good overall? Yeah, Nuggets, I've just controlled every game part Yeah, no, it should be a good

game. It's been a fairly decent series outside of outside of a bad quarter for Denver, they should have swept. Yeah, yeah, yeah, uh yeah, so they should have already be done. Yeah, because that one bad quarter. Customed to the game. So we'll see what happens tonight. A lot of things. The World Series is kind of official except for one team. So right, yeah, play tonight, step with the other the

other one, dude, there's another series Tennessee and Mississippi Southern Missisouri. Okay, did that one too, Stanford. I thought Stafford won it last night. No, they were, they were down one. Oh, they had to win. They're they're going, They're they're going. I think so they won two, they won the they won the first. Just looked it up. Well maybe that was Oregon Oregans out, Organs out. But I know Stanford one last night, Stanford one last night, but thought they were down

one. Oh No, they played a night at Okay, I watched him last night with the lanky dude. That's why that was such a big deal, is that they had to win that one. And uh, you know what, that makes sense because they didn't celebrate. They didn't celebrate anything. That's odd. That's Stanford. They're not celebrating. And that picture Quinn Matthews a senior. One hundred and fifty six pitches, but that doesn't include the rust the other pitches he threw. Well, yeah, dude, you never,

you never, You never cut the worm up pitches, don't. No, No, I'm talking about he was already kind of throwing a lot already. I mean, yeah, he throw the forever, but one hundred and fifty six pitches last night, you got yet people losing their minds. I'm like, you know, you know who knows whether or not he can throw one hundred fifty six pitches? Him he's the only one that knows. Yeah, Twitter is going to all a guess because they should fire the manager,

fire the coach. And my son Adam is going, what's the big deal? My dad had me throw one hundred and sixty eight one time and then play shortstop in the second game of the double header. But you know, and and honestly, in that game, I mean nothing, not that there's any real comparison, but he throw a butch and we kept track of his pitches. We had a chart we could track of pitches. Of course, we only had room for one hundred and fifty. So but every inning that

he came in, I'm like, how are you doing? How are you doing? Does your back hurt? Does your arm hurt? Your legs? Okay? He kept saying, I'm good back, I'm good, I'm good back in the day. And maybe that's where the tummy John stuff and all that coming out now, But it was you. You threw until you couldn't. Right, You don't put a little dirt on it? Yeah, you know, I mean you have these you have these pitch counts in little leagues and and and uh and high schools and stuff like that, you know,

to protect the kids. And and I think what it's done is it's it's hurt you know, stamina and dirt. Bill. In fact, if you high school coach here listening, just just because give us a quick call. We had about that in the championship game. He had to take this guy out because he had reached his pitch. And you don't have to identify yourself if you don't want. But is it a bunch of crap or is it

true? Or do you have to take care of your pictures um accordingly because they make you well, you know, I go all the way back to um the run that uh that uh you have a had under Jay Johnson and Bobby Dalbeck through a whole bunch of innings in that College World Series. People were saying that they're they're wrecking his arm. Well, first of all, he wasn't going to be a pitcher in the pros. That's the first thing.

So you know, and again it's the guy knows, you know, he knows, and and and it's yeah, it's up to a trainer or or a coach to kind of pay attention and not not let him hurt himself. But a guy knows, I can, I've got more left in my arm. And that's the only person that knows, right, right, right, and uh, And so they moved to another game. Makes sense now

that they didn't celebrate. I thought that they didn't won it. They were they were it was a two two game at one point, well they were down to nothing and then came back, and then they came back and won that games. Yeah, you know, I sat there and watch when I when I saw on Twitter how many you know that people were putting up his pitch, I was like, I gotta go see this. And the guy,

you know, did he look tired. Yeah he did. But you know they say a lot of particularly he's a buck twenty and but particularly some of these guys who throw a lot of off speed stuff and breaking when you're more tired. It's when they say that you're more effective because you're not throwing too hard and you're giving, you're letting your ball do what it needs to do. And he doesn't throw gas. He just goes. He just throws strikes, struck out sixteen. A great, incredible performance by him, went

for the ages. People talk about that for a long time. Win or lose, they'll talk about it for a long time. Yeah, a lot of things. A do you have breaking news of a stuff track? Okay, I was gonna touch on on on the track situation, but okay, coaches coming, you got going into this conversation, conversation we're gonna have with Bobby Robins. I came across this thing just a little bit, just a

little bit before the show started. But you know, the Big Ten came out with their football schedules for one, UCLA and USC jointed and only who they play, not dates and times and all that stuff, but just who everybody plays. So in of the existing of the existing Big Ten teams. Somebody went and did the math of how many miles each team in the Big Ten will travel in their Big Ten away games. So, I mean, obviously, obviously ucln US You're gonna be number one and two because they're you

know, so far away. But so number three is Nebraska seven thousand miles for away games. Number four is Iowa sixty six hundred miles. Number five Ohio State sixty four hundred and sixty five hundred basically, and so on down the line U UCLA, number one at USC sixteen thousand miles. So again,

number four is number three Nebraska seven thousand. So you USC is gonna travel sixteen thousand miles for its road road pack up Big Ten games, with one of those games being at UCLA where they're twenty miles away, and UCLA a second at fifteen thousand and four hundred miles. I again, we talked about this last weekend. I said, you know what, I guess we won't know until we ask the kids to us. It's a long distance,

blah blah blah. But do the kids really care? I mean, they're going, they're gonna play, And this is not so much about the big guys. You're talking about my thing. I think the kids, and I think the kids in track and tennis and uh and uh you know where water, polo, volleyball, softball, even baseball. It's gonna matter to them.

Jackson the kid. Yeah, I was thinking about it. I mean I would care because as a student athlete, they as you know, go to clouds, do other things, not just like you know, play the support it's right, So they asked, you know, conditioning yourself and then you know treatment in bostil study and do homework and kind of one house,

some kind of wife as well. But if they're always just coming home really early or late, I guess, and then having with a class and then you know, treatments in a practice at we'll ask doctor doctor Robbins about this too. Yeah, because obviously he's in the student. He's in the student athlete right, not right, not athlete student type of thing. Right, What it means? What this happening? And guess what it's gonna it's eventually

before your death, before mine, it's gonna happen. These teams are gonna gonna be regional, Midwest, West, blah blah blah. They'll be going they'll be going east somewhere. Yeah, for all these childs, but maybe

not as much obviously. I think at some point, I mean, the common sense thing would be to regionalize, you know, college athletics one from a cost dandpoint of course no, let me say you, Jay, we talked about this two three years ago when COVID hit and teams are running out of money millions into dent right, we said, don't you think this is gonna curtail the trap because you can't spend all this money traveling all over the

country. Gets gotten worse, it's doors box is open even more. Yeah, it's gotten a lot worse, you know, I mean again, and you know again, and i'd like again, I'd like to think that you USC and ucl A pencil to all of this out how much their travel is going to cost for all the other sports and whatnot. And they still did it. But you know, for those people who are saying, well, they're you know, they're getting however, you know, eighty million dollars you

know as part of their contract. What's the net? Yeah, the net's not what everybody thinks it is. Sure, Sure, I will know when su all that comes out with for money and find acis do you think we should go? I think we have. Let's take our break and hopefully, uh, what is that that might be me? Oh, and hopefully doctor Robins will be on the line when we come back. So let's go and take our break. Right now, we'll wait for doctor Robbins to call in

and we'll spend some time talking about all these issues. So stick around. Hey, welcome back to Bying the Ball. Here Pop Sports fourteen. Cookie, I'm Steve

river He's jacs awesome. Now on the phone, we have doctor Robbins. You know him, we know him. He's the ULA president. How are you doctor I am doing well. Thanks for having me on your show. To appreciate you joining us. We know you're such a busy guy, so let's just get right. We wanted to talk about this that the U of A hosted last week. It sounded like an important summit because as you were talking to us off the air, everybody was there. The NCAA president,

he had media and athletic directors and presidents. Why was it important to do this and why was it important for the U of A to do this?

Well, I think it's such an important part of any university, and we have an embassy a center in DC that is focused on advancing the causes of the university, and this is really important to the university, and so we thought that we would use our opportunity in DC at a time where, for instance, Gregg Sanky, the commissioner of the Southeastern Conference, was there with Coach Saban walking the halls of Congress to talk about the future of college athletics.

We had Governor Charlie Baker, the former governor of Massachusetts who's the new president of the NCAA. We had other commissioners, ads, coaches, members of Congress. We we opened the night before the summit on Wednesday night with a reception at the Capitol with lawmakers and and all the people who were coming to the conference, and there were many people who couldn't be there who streamed it live all around the world. We had students, we had collectives around

raising money for name image and likeness. We we had people from the media

that are leaders and spokespeople for college athletics. And the one thing we all agreed upon is we understand the importance of college athletics and we love it, and we wanted to have a discussion of which we will have a white paper that will come out of that and be sort of a guideline for what we can use to convince the US Congress to act, because you know, all the states have different laws even to think about, uh you know, the

sec for instance, you know, several of their states have enacted laws that would prohibit the nc double A from enforcing rules in those states. So I think it was a really rich, in uh frank discussion about the current state of college athletics and what are some things that we could potentially do with federal legislation and other changes at the NCUBLEA to improve the health of college athletics. You talked about that earlier, just the future of the athletics. It's changed

so much since you were an athlete. We've covered it for a little more than three decades. It's it's not the it's not our father's NC double A anymore. What do you think you're going ahead? I missed you. What what do you think it's going to ahead? All positively? I hope, yeah, I think so. You know, it's um, you know,

we learned from President Baker. They're over one hundred committees at the NC double A and with you know, probably ten people per committee, and so that's eighteen hundred people who are trying to guide the NC double A. And I'm

I'm really confident in Governor Baker's leadership. He was focused in on some uh changes that will be made at the at the NC double A. UM, you know, there was talk about federal legislation and even potentially having federal oversight of college athletics, which, um, you know, it was an interesting

topic that I hadn't thought much about before this conference. So I think there are a lot of changes that should be positive going forward to support our student athletes, to make them uh not only successful in the the chosen sport that they participate in, but most importantly for life after UH they leave our universities,

and there's uniformity and agreement on that. So you mentioned that there's going to be a white paper coming out of this, out of this summit, because I mean, the issues are still big, right, there aren't there aren't any quick answers to anything. So how will all this information or this discussion get used for there to be you know, some end result to this, right, I mean you want you know, there's got to be decisions

made. There's got to be whether it's legislation or policies or whatever. In the end, you got to get to something that's going to make all this manageable, because it's really not manageable right now. Is that what was what's supposed to happen out of this summit? Yes, that's it. And so we talked about name, image and likeness. I think there's some quick focus things that could be done there. We talked about um UH conference realignment,

we talked about the transfer portal. We talked about some of the major things that are going on in the in the sector right now and what could be focused upon I think what you're going to see the US Congress do is probably start down a pathway of trying to codify some national UH guidelines around and laws

around name, image and likeness and things like that. So I my hope is that the summer that the committees UH that in both the House and the Senate, there there are some bills that are going to be proposed coming out of the committees, and then you get a chance toward the end of the summer to socialize those bills and get compromises, and then maybe by the fall have the full Congress, both both sides of the House and the Senate,

and then ultimately, of course the President would sign some sort of legislation. But I think that's probably going to be focused right now as a first step on name, image and likeness. So, doctor Robinson, you were a young man when we started talking about conference realignment. I feel like the girl the lady on the Titanic. It's been eighty four years. When do you think this is going to end finally be a resolved or will it conference realignment?

I think you've seen conference realignment over the lifetime of all three of us, and there's probably going to continue to be movement around conference realignment. I think right now, you know, the last entity to to try to stabilize this for the time being is the PAC twelve and what and that's going to hinge on what kind of media deal the PAC twelve gets and whether it's acceptable

to the ten remaining universities that are make up the PAC twelve. So last week, let's let's go back to that, because last week there was a bunch of media sources right saying that the PAC twelve had reached a grant of rights, a verbal grant of rights agreement. You said that you hadn't hadn't heard of one. Media is still saying even though Bobby Robin says it's not

there, they're still saying it is. We've had all this stuff, I mean, first of all, just the all the speculation and guessing that's gone on. That's had to drive you a little bit crazy. But how do you get your arms around that and kind of how much can you tell us about where things are right now? Yeah, I think that there there was something lost in translation there when I was asked a question about the grant of rights. No university is going to sign a grant of rights until the media

deal is in front of them. Okay, So yes, the PAC twelve put out a statement and it is the fact. It is true that we have all ten verbally agreed that if the deal is acceptable to each one of our universities, then we will sign the grant of rights. So that we have to wait to see what the deal is and you have to go down and do a roll call. Arizona yes or no, you know, Arizona State, yes or no, Stanford University, yes or no, and we

all want to stay together. My prediction is that we all will stay together, even though there are a lot of speculation about some of the schools in our conference leaving. I think if we all get a deal that we think is is a creative to our universities, will sign those grants of rights and we'll be happy and we'll stay together. Okay. One of the things that's been hanging out there, and again we're speculating again if the deal didn't come

through to Arizona satisfaction. You were looking for a place, you know, I grew up in I grew up in Arizona. The idea of Arizona and Arizona State splitting up in some form, you know, going back to when Arizona and ASU went into what was the Pack eight at the time, and ASU went in kicking and screaming they did not want to go. Arizona wanted to go, and the legislation in the region's basically said, too bad,

you're going. What's I feel it seems like that's changed, that they're you know, you guys aren't hooked to each other like we thought you were, or like you have been in the past. Well, I think I think, you know, if you look at the you know, tragedies of A and M and UT splitting up. Now they're they're coming back together again. They're getting the band back together down there in Texas in the SEC conference. So I'm confident that President Crew and I are aligned, uh and we'll do

the best for our universities and the two of us will be aligned. This must take a lot of your time, just the non academic side of it. It does, it does, you know, as they always talk about, it's the it's the medical enterprise in athletics that consumes so much of your

time as a as a university president. Um. But I'm I'm hopeful that we're going to see some changes around these major issues in the transfer portal in IL and conference realignment, and the conference realignment UM rests on the media deal that we can we can get. Are we gonna like what college athletics becomes after this? I mean, you know, you you and Steve and I we you know, we were you know with the old Nebraska Oklahoma game in

USC and UCLA and all of that stuff that we grew up with. And we love college athletics because of the tradition and all that kind of stuff, and that's kind of like that does all that stuff doesn't even matter anymore. So those of us in the time that we have left, are we gonna like what especially college football looks like down the road? Is it still going to be as fun for us and you know, as big a part of our lives as it always was? Yeah? I think so, I'm confident

about that. I think, you know, their their evolutions that go on in every part of the society. And you know, we've got the College Football Playoff coming around, and you know, you get you get a twelfth teen tournament and you know, I don't know that I'll ever get in in Division two and three? Do this already? UM? Even the you know, the one uh one double A schools have a playoff, and so I think that's gonna energize the sport the call college football landscape, uh and the

and that's going to be here before you know it. And I think you're going to see renewed excitement about, you know, having a twelve team playoff. I think it's going to be a lot of fun. Um, just maybe a couple of good questions before you leave, you have to travel stuff. I don't know if you want to say, but let me ask him. As we finished the school year, finally, baseball, everything's done. How do you review the the athletic department in terms of how it did this

year? Football, basketball, all that stuff. Yeah, I think I think every in every aspect, all of our teams, whether it be golf or tennis, or swimming and diving, women's basketball, uh, men's basketball, college football, we're all collectively moving in the right direction. Um. You know, as I always say, I want every one of our teams at the start of the year to have their goal of winning in national championship. And well, let's have a winning season and then let's compete for conference

championship and then go on for national championships. Obviously, coach Lloyd had another phenomenal year. And I think that all of our sports are looking in a positive direction into the future. And I think that if you just go and look down one by one, we're going in the right direction and almost every sport. Okay, So I'm gonna I'm gonna ask you kind of a weird

question because I'm a little bit of a degenerate like this. I I you know, with ucln USC leaving, I'm I'm still pretty pretty upset with those guys, and so I'm kind of like hoping that this is really hard on them. And that's again, that's just way, that's just the way my brain works. But a thing came out today where somebody did the math on how much travel USC and UCLA are just going to have to do in football compared to the other Big Ten schools, and for both of them, it's

more than double the travel for their Big Ten games. I mean, did you ever feel like they didn't think hard enough about this or and how much how hard is that going to be on on the athletes and not just football and basketball, but everybody else. You know, do you do you think about that at all. Oh yeah, of course. And you know, I'm not angry about it. I understand the reasons why they did it.

It was for money and uh uh and the the toll that is going to be uh given to the uh the athletes, the coaches, the staffs, and the finances of how much it's going to cost to do all the travel and support. UM. I think it's gonna be an unintended consequence, but it's gonna be a reality, and I just I hate to see it.

I think you know, if you talk about, um, you know, merging the PAC twelve with the Big twelve and the ACC to create the real super conference, UM, you would have to have divisions and you would play some you know, think of it as the NFL. You play most of her if you're in the a FL East, you play mostly on the East Coast. But then occasionally you go and you play a game or two out

of conference or out of your division. And that that is being lost with this now big ten uh um arrangement that's been made with USC in UCLA. I hate it. I know you're not mad. I'm still mad. Yeah, I hate it too. I'm so disappointed because, UM, UCLA in USC I just hate we're not going to be having the UCLA Arizona, um, you know home in the Way series, that all the other things that that in the Rose Bowl is not going to be the same. It's just

very very heartbreaking. Well one quick thing, doctor two, is that modulations the bat men's basketball schedule is fantastic for this coming year. Yeah, finally, good. Okay, we're looking for that, looking forward to that, right, Okay, Well doctor Robbins, Um, well, you know, just keep it churning. We know you guys will have a deal at some point, and hopefully it's a good one because I can't take another eighty four years. I want to stay in the back. I really really do.

And I think all of our school will say the same thing. Yeah, okay, thank you, doc. We appreciate it. Okay, thank you so much. Yeah, we couldn't get him longer than that. He's rushing to another meeting. Yea. Um, but you know, look, you know, well I'm glad that he hates it. I know he's not rooting against him, because I'm I'm just that kind of a guy who is. But his temperament and mean, I know we've got to go is that I think, and you can only read between the lines, right, that it's

gonna stay together. Yeah for a while, at least for a while, at least for a while, at least for a while until there's a better idea. Yeah right, I was just under the circumstances what we have now. I just rather all together because it is so different, and I know times of change, and I don't, you know, hate I hate the internet, blah blah blah, but that's where we're gonna be watching game.

Eventually everything slepped going to the internet or streaming or whatever it is. Didn't you say ESPN is doing the same thing now with gonna separate itself from TBE. They're gonna, yeah, they're gonna go off the linear one hundred percent streaming at some point. The different world for us, Steve, No, I know. The thing is that we're still alive, and we got to deal with it. The BTC alternative. All right, let's go and take our break and we'll react to some more of that when we get back.

We've got about thirteen minutes. If you guys want to give us a quick call, give us a call, talk about you, talk about

whatever you want. Um, you've got a couple of text you good interviews. Yeah, you know, I just I don't. I don't know what to come of it because I don't know what he's said. Well, one thing I did learn, and because I've been sitting here wondering why why are they going to leave nil in the hands of the federal governments? And and and what he explained was that all these other states are coming up with their

own laws. So it makes sense. You know, the NCAABAA didn't do it, so the states decided to do it, and they're doing it, and every state it hasn't that's doing it has done it differently from the others. Yeah, so you know, they got to corral that and and it kind of sounds like they're really counting on the federal government to do that, which is why they did that summit last week. Well last week, did

you see the i RS got involved too? Well, they r s saying yeah, that that donors that the donations to collectives cannot be tax deductible, you know. So again there's all the stuff swirling, which I guess, you know, it was kind of obvious, right, the federal government has to step in and do this because everyybody's doing it on their own and it's piecemeal and it's creating more chaos instead of less. All right, you just think it's a it's a it's a big bag of craziness. Yeah, And

depends where you're at, it's your benefiting or not benefiting. Now. I wanted to ask him too, because we have the Geist stuff and that just strikes me so much. We talked about it with a few people. Here's a guy who's fantastically celebrated but not celebrated financially. Well, you know, we maybe we can get one of the you know, one of the collectives guys on to talk about that's how do you get money to a guy like

Jordan Geist? Yeah? Right, well, let's sound well because I actually sent him a note today the adamazars yea from from Yeah, you know, how does how does how does someone like Jordan Guist who's as as still and Delaney Chanelle who has accomplished as any athlete that's at the University of Arizona right now. How do they get some of that? Yeah, deservedly? So

they should. Yeah, they should because not only are they you know, champions, but they're bringing a lot of a lot of prestige to the University of Arizona, you know, I mean they're they're you know, I'm sure the recruiting, you know, for in both of those sports is a little bit better because of what they've done. Yeah. Yeah, I think it's called Hi, you're on the air and I on the ball. How you doing today? What's that Brian? Well, I heard the interview. It

was very good. There was one thing that I kind of was surprised about what he said. You mentioned about when they get the agreement or whatever it's gonna be or yeah, that they're gonna need all ten to vote for it. Well they said it doesn't have to be a unanimous I don't think, but well that's what he said. He said all ten of them had to and and I'm sitting there going, Okay, we're looking at the wild card

in this whole thing. It's gotta be Colorado. Well, I think that Arizona is a wild card too without saying it, because because you know, if you're Arizona, if you're Arizona and Colorado and there and there's a sneaky chance to leave, aren't you gonna leave? You know? To me, um, the way the Big twelve Arizona goes there in Colorado, the way the Big twelve is built is just so much better than whatever the PAC twelve could possibly be if they add San Diego State in some other wildcard team.

Well, you know, that's the funny thing, because I think Jay harped on this. Given the choice, Jay and correct me if I'm wrong, you want to stay, Yeah, you want to stay. But but Bryan, it's not as which is sexier the PAC twelve as it would be, or the Big twelve as it would be. The Big twelve by far, I mean, and I understand Jay's point of view, But if we're not going to have UCLA and USA is not the PAC twelve, right, I agree totally, Agreen, And it's to me, it's just it's just it

could be the Whack, it could be the Mountain West. It's basically the same thing, you know, because I just don't I just can't see Oregon in Washington also because there had been talk about them wanting a larger portion of the pie than the other schools. And if if that, if they don't get if it's all an equal amount, I don't think Oregon and Washington would want to be in that. They'll say, okay, let's push to go

to the Big ten. Then well. The thing, the thing I believe though, Brian, is that, um, whatever happens, you know, if azone that stays in the PAC twelve, it's temporary. All of this. I think all of this is going to get restructured totally. But it's the win. It's still win, and it's probably you know, five years down the road, five years number, five years after the new contracts go

into effect next year. So I think that it's it's it's temporary and at some point and in that time, you know, the schools have to get their stuff together, have to you know, get them all in a room and nobody comes out until you have a thing done that you realign the whole damn thing in a way that makes sense, because right now it makes zero sense. Oklahoma and Texas do not be long in the SEC. They do not be long playing in the South right, Uh right, us USC and

UCLA do not be long playing in the Midwest. Uh, you know, West Virginia shouldn't be playing, you know, in the You know, it's got to get organized. And I don't know how they'll ever do it because money is running everything and they're just going to do whatever makes them the most

money, right, you know. And I look at this, so I'm going I just can't understand how Arizona could stay in the back ten and and consider themselves a viable athletic program staying it, you know, especially for football, because they'll have a basketball Basketball can run its own. Yeah, they'll have a better but Brian, basically baseball and softball. But football is the money generator, and they got to figure out a way to get more money.

Well, school, if they're getting if they're getting about the same amount of money as they would be getting in the Big twelve, then you want to stay in the Pack twelve because one, you get the same amount of money in two your road, it's all about getting into the into the college football Playoff. I like Arizona's chances of getting in the playoff from the Pac

twelve then from the Big twelve. Right, And also your expenses would not be as high, right, you don't want to be traveling to West Virginia, you know, or wherever you know. And also also one thing also he brought up about, you know, Congress getting involved in all this stuff. And until they figure out, I'm not so much worried about the nil because they're gonna pay whatever they pay, you know, and I don't care about that. We're gonna put a limit. They're not gonna be able to

put a cap on this. They've already opened Pandora's box. And that's just the way it's going to be. But the thing they've got this strands, they've got it straight out as the transport portal that you know, this can't have kids, you know, like every year transferring or there's got to be a select period of time after a season is over, and that's it. You can't transfer after that, let's say sixty ninety days after the season's over. Once that's done, it's done. Well, that's that's not gonna get

fixed in Congress. The NC double's got to fix that, right, But the NC double A is just pushing it off on everybody else. They don't want to. They don't want to solve any of these problems. You know, they don't seem really care too much about what happens. And probably five years we want to have an NC DOUABA anyway, right, you're right. May it may just be a minor league, a football program. I just it's gonna be a power five whatever conferences, and that's going to be it.

Yeah, yeah, Okay. To your question about the vote for the TV deal and grant of rights, I sent John Wilner, who knows everything about all this stuff. Um, he said it has to be a supermajority, but not unanimous. He said eight out of ten. I think that still may be tough. If you know, that may be tough if Colorado is playing both sides here. Yeah, well, you know what I say, anybody who votes against it, just get the hell out of here.

Eight out of ten, No, that is gonna be tough. Yeah, but you know, my problem is replacing usc UCLA with San Diego State, which had a couple of good football years, a couple and a couple of good basketball years, and that's about it. And then somebody else who're trying to pick out of the air, and that's not going to make this conference attractive. Yeah, it just got to be good enough. Thank you, Thanks, thank you, Brian. Okay, yeah, no, I understand

that one hundred percent. You're not. You're not going to replace and UCLA and USC with somebody, anybody. They're equal, you're not. But if all you know, all other things are equal, I'd just rather stay where we are. I get it. You're a lover, a lover of the familiar. Yeah, and that's that's not a sham. There's you shouldn't be no shame in that. Football wise, it's it's not a it's a wash,

so wash. Maybe for basketball it's a major benefit. Dude. I'm one of those guys that goes to a restaurant in orders the same thing You've lived all your life. So I get it. I get it. It's costability. I get this every time. But pretty much, whatever restaurant it is, I mean, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I stray, it's not by much, right. Could you take off the rice? Please? Could you put in one of those little cafeteria of trays. Everything in his little corner, don't touch, don't we'll

see. I mean who we are. June fifteenth, June twelfth, whatever it is, we said by the end of the month, kind of my self imposed deadline, because this deadline has gone on eleven months. Yeah,

it's gone on forever. But it's funny. I was listening to Wilner's podcast and he goes with John Kanzano, and they were both talking about They said it was going to be, you know, at the beginning of November, and then the end of November, then by Christmas, and then by March, and then by you know, and now here we are in June, and neither one of them would commit to anything. And they said, don't be surprised if this goes into July. Who was about you lost to me

in August? Oh, I said he was gonna be August. I know, it was like two weeks after the place, because I thought there was gonna be some urgency to this damn thing, and there hasn't been, and there hasn't been, but I you know it to me again, it's it's the unknown. It's once it's settled and we know what we got, I'll

be okay with wherever it wherever it lands. Just get it done. Just just let's just get this done so we can talk about you know, what this is going to be like as opposed to guessing what it's gonna you know, what what it's gonna be, because we just we don't know. I you know, I don't know Robert's Look, he's he's a cool, calm and collected guy, right, he's he's a heart surgeon, so he's you

know. Somebody said, like, you're not gonna make him nervous, right, So I think he's he you know, but from the sounds of it, he sounds confident that, you know, he doesn't sound generate at all about what we're going to the Big twelve or something. I don't think it's a it's a big concern. If they do, they do, if they don't, Like I said, you you guys who want to know, I want to know now eventually, just tell me where the bus ticket is and we'll get on the bus. Yeah, but it's just I want to go

know where I'm going, that's all. Yeah, you know, make a reservation at the hotel. I don't want to get on the bus until in or it's going, right and I want the bus to like tell me right now where it's going. And ain't gonna tell you now. It's gonna not even gonn tell you the price of a ticket. Yeah, that's for sure. We'll see. Okay, so we're gonna have a Greg on the other side talking more about this and see what else is going on. Uh.

He didn't say much about the school year. School year? How would you rate the school year? I know, we don't have like a UM, it's a bizarre it's like a C plus. I'm I'm more in the B maybe a B minus um B or straight B or B managed because the basketball team did great, even though they pissed away the NCAA women football. The football team was you know, it was much better. Um, women's basketball, you know, kind of held their own, didn't do didn't do great.

You know, obviously baseball and softball were well. Baseball wasn't a total disappointment. They got into the NC double as softball was. I was like, what the hell? But you know, there were a lot of factors there too, you know, to two of their best players leaving at the last minute and stuff like that. So, um, I'm more in the B or B minus range even B overall. Yeah, you know, tracted well, Tennis did well. Tennis did well. There was off did well.

So there was some other sports. As I said, plus, maybe team I would be minus. Yeah, And I think that. I think the bat it was a fun basketball seas it was really fun. Another Pack ten tournament championship and all that stuff. You know, they crapped that one game. But I think other than that, I think it was still really

good year for especially for basketball. Yeah. You know, if you could have had more time, I wanted to ask Robbins, you know, how are you gonna feel if the football team doesn't do as well this next year? Because football is a quote unquote the fun porch. Well, you know, I mean, do you worry, you worry about how football is going to go? Yeah? We do. Gotta go all right, We'll be back. Greg Hanson coming up after after the first break and then breaking is here at the top of the arm stick up
