This is I on the Wrong with Steve Rivera and Jagon Zalns on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen, powered by Nova Insurance Services Ensure your most Prized Possessions, katz R two SAD and I Heeart Radio Station. Good afternoon, and everybody, welcome to I on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, you're Jagon's oss, and welcome to Monday. Yeah. Another torture day. Back from Dallas barely. How is the weather horrible? Horrible?
Right man? You know we complain about how hot it is. You know, there's nothing. It is so stiff over there. This is like it is twice. It's like you can't move in the thick. Yeah. Yeah, that's the feeling that you walk outside and it's thick. So I lived there many years ago before I got my job here, and that's how summers were, and we just did in the pool. Yeah, because it's you're gonna get wet no matter what. Yeah. Yeah, and I mean where
we're you know, we know what's comment. Yeah, well back, but it was it was thick. It's a miserable. You gotta loose clothes. It's just uncomfortable. Yeah, I had to wear church clothes on Sunday because part of the thing that we went to wash. Yeah, because you know, I can't wear a button down shirt, you know, like a dress shirt. You have to have an undershirt. Yeah, yeah, yeah, So yeah, it's called the Sean Miller look exactly. I don't like that
you try, but it was it was hot. Okay, well you miss Friday. Friday, we talked a little about the the pact of media Day, a lot of things going on. We'll go back and revisit it now that you're here. We have a couple of great guests and we'll talk about that today. Right, Matt Mordano is going to come on. He was
there. We'll kind of ask him some Arizona questions about you know, I want to ask him his thoughts on you know, Jaden Delora and what he said and all that kind of stuff because that was sort of the story comes you know, coming out at least here. Uh. And then so he's gonna come on at three fifteen. Then at four fifteen we're gonna have James Creppia. Um, he's been a guest a number of times. He covers Oregon and he was the guy that got into the conversation with George Klafkoff about
whether or not the media deal was done. Yeah, right, right, and and so we'll ask it and to get clarification with it. Yeah right. So we'll get his his thinking a couple of days later, now removed from you know, you know, what does he think of all that? You know, what's going on up at Oregon? Yeah, yeah, yet right right, Okay, No, sounds good. We should get some calls today five two o four one seventy four forty if you want to call in.
I know I've gutting texall weekend um talking about the show, talking about the PAC twelve. Everyone's still waiting. Everyone just needs to be patient. It's obvious that they don't have anything but to have something. Yeah, you know, on the day, I think it was a bad look feel, a bad feel that Kleiavkoff had to get up there, and I wasn't expecting him to announce it, but that it hadn't already been that it wasn't out
of the way right, So it was kind of a bad feel. But once it got going, coaches took the stage and and and players took the stage age it seemed to kind of dissipate right now after the weekend. I think it's kind of like, okay, they they I feel like they sort of weathered that. Now let's just get it done. Well, are they? Was it the storm? Although Clarf didn't come off great, he did not. It's surprising for a major commissioner or commissioner at this level to be
like that and not come off great. Well, you know you you know, people are saying, well, you know, he shouldn't have said this, he should have said that. But if he didn't say things, he would have been criticized for that. Sure, right, So he got up there and tried to say what he could say. We don't but but he
got in this. The comment that he made and then we'll talk to James about was when when he said, you know, we didn't we purposely didn't announce our TV deal today because we wanted the focus to be on football. So naturally, the next question was, so is the deal done? You're just not announcing it? Right? No. That was a great group follow up, uh, for James and everybody else to get some clarification because I struck me too as just maybe okay, they don't want to talk about that,
but they want to talk about this. It was great that he asked the question at the end before he left. Um, you know when when when when said that? It went right over my head, So I did, I didn't, I didn't catch it. It was it was it was strange to me. It was just strange to me. I'm thinking, there's not enough time to hip And then good that he came. Crappy is kind of one of those intrepid guys. Is annoying, but you know he's very
good. Well, he asked you the questions that you don't want to answer, right right, right right, and he asked them the way you know. You know another thing, you know, Bruce has been accused of that too. Where another Where when were they coming? Please? But that's why it makes him goods. Yeah, and that's yeah, and again, you know, you know again and and and he you know, he's organ he's organ beat writers. Yeah, he covers one of the top teams in the
conference. Right. There's a lot of steake for Ogan right now, Yeah, yeah, there is. And there's still a lot of buzz for Arizona orone Colorado. Still that leak, that leak or that little drip drip drip arizone wants to go. They're just blah blah blah. So we won't know until we know. And we've always said that. I think you're off the ledge a little bit more. I Yeah, Like I said, I think getting through Friday not having announced it enough, people are kind of talk.
Yes, there's still some conversation about this, sure, but a lot of the conversation has been about, you know, the actual meat of media day with the coaches and the players, and that's what we're gonna talk to me and we'll talk to Matt about that. He was there to get the vibe of what really happened, uh to Uh, Jed was pretty good. Uh well, Jed was pretty good. I know they didn't want to talk about
the Dolora thing, but they did and they were pretty good. I mean, it was no doubt they did it the best way they could in all honesty. Uh And and maybe it was best that they waited for this. I don't know, but but Dora was very, uh as forward as he could have been, right emotional, which got to you, which I thought was fantastic. And I don't think it was planned. I don't think it
was on I think he got emotional because he was emotional about it. Sure, And the question that was asked, right, how do you when it involve your family? You got it to be emotional, right, whether you like it or not. You know, look, I I've heard both sides that I've heard a side that said, you know, man, it was it was great to see that this that this isn't just something he's putting aside. Sure doesn't think about it, you know, and it just felt kind
of felt for him. Then I got other responses that said, he's still a jerk and he still shouldn't be on the football team, and I and you know, okay, so he's emotional and he got tears in his eyes, but what about the girl? No, without question, and you're not gonna make everybody happy. You're just not um. So there's two sides to it, three sides whatever, you're just not um and UM. I feel more sympathetic for him, more empathy for him though, um, more than
I did before. I like. I like the fact that he it is um, that he's still got that emotion about it, that it managed to him. And then maybe, you know, I think there's some people out there think he's just a knuckle. You know, kid who didn't give a crap about didn't understand it, didn't give a crap about what he was doing.
Whereas I think he's a kid that in the moment didn't think of what he was sure whatever it was that was done that caused all of this, And now he's trying to figure out how to deal with this in all in the public eye. And that's hard, a hard thing to do. Yeah, I agree with you, especially when you're you're a jock. You're jock and use a phrase that way. Um, but if you're a smart one,
you're treated differently. You're treat it differently, and you're simpathly you know you don't they treat you better when you're the quarterback and when you're in a quarterback you're the face of the program. Yeah. Yeah, So And I thought Jed handle it as best as he could to the time and sequencing all that stuff. Uh, and now they're kind of behind it's behind them now a little. I think I think it is to a degree. Um, uh, you know it is to a degree. I mean, look,
we don't need to ask him about it anymore. He'll start practice and and and the questions will be football now. You know, if he has a crappy season, you know, at the end of the year, they're gonna say, right, how much did this affect you? Well, and that won't be answered. I mean, he won't be answered, however, be answered. But that's what i'm That's what I think. I mean, it's the stuff takes A fester can have said that. It isn't for the last
six years it does. Okay, we'll talk about that later with Matt and he was he was there. I thought Justin Justin did a good job too and asking some of the questions on video. Justin spears right, our guy, right right, Okay, what else is going on? Sugar Sculls? Oh yeah, I tell me, well, you know, um remember before the week and he said, well, you know, can the Sugar Skalls host you know, host of PLATCA And I said, I don't think so,
because I don't think the Rattlers is gonna lose on Saturday? Well they did. Yeah, the rat who lost first or they on Saturday and the Sugar Sculls played on Sunday. Okay, so they had something to play. Was sitting there for it was sitting there for the Rattlers got behind forty two to fourteen. They were getting their asses kicked. I mean they were getting They had a bunch of ters. I think had four interceptions in the first
half. They were getting team they've already beaten against against the fourth place team in the division, Northern Arizona, who eliminated them last year and then went on to win the championship. So they're playing Northern Arizona, they're playing in Phoenix, They're down forty two to fourteen, they come all the way back, take the lead and lose it in the last minute. Oh, Kevin guy was way less than happy, way less than happy because it was a
Rattlers broadcast, right because they were the home team. So he did the post game interview. Yah, I you know, they look, you know, they didn't get to the championship. They haven't won the championship in several years now, and I got a sense that there's gonna be a housecleaning over
there. It just seemed like now it was in the moment, right, But you know Kevin, you know he you know, I know Kevin too, you know, in the moment, like that man, he gets he thinks of things, and sometimes that thought gets locked and it doesn't go away, So it'll be interesting to see how much his team changes next year. You fare the coach, you're not gonna fire the coach, because not only is he the coach, he's also the president of the team. I'm part
of the herd. So if there's house cleaning, he's gotta But he certainly reflect on himself. Sure of coach Coachuck. He's a good coach. He's been doing this for a long time. You've got to reflect on what he's doing in his approach. So there, it's set up for the Sugar Sculls. It's all set up. The winner of the winner of yesterday's game at Bay Area is hosting a playoff game this week. Sugar Skulls go down twenty
two nothing in the first quarter, first quarter, twenty two seven. They looks great, they're going down, getting ready, they're inside the five, get ready to score. Touchdown. Um uh. Ramona Apkins gets gets sacked, ball pops loose, scoop and score. Then they get they get uh. They turn the ball over on downs at their own seventeen touchdown with thirty six zero or something twenty two zero. But oh, that's what you're just subscribing okay, so the guy. So so they go and score again,
Um, don't move the ball again, trilong field goal. Don't get that they going to score again and get a ruge on top of that where they get the one point for kicking the ball and sore down twenty two zip. At the end of their they never caught up the forty six to thirty four. Well they got to well, then they got it to within five in the fourth quarter, but they did They never had the ball to take the league. So when they got it to five, UM, say everyone down.
So using your hat that you deal with with the team in your capacity, successful season or now successful from the standpoint that you know you get to the playoffs again. They had a winning season. They certainly, you know, uh in some areas of their game looked better than last year. You feel like they're just a little short somewhere and not not sure where it short somewhere offensive, don't know if you put it on the quarterback. You know,
Mike Jones was good but not great. Yeah, and he's getting older. Yeah, you know, I'd be surprised if Mike Jones comes back for another year. This was his fourth year with the Sugar Skulls. That's that's a pretty long career for a night Indour Football League player Carrington Thompson already told us he's not coming back. He was the best receiver. Um, you know, we'll we'll hurt a stick with Ramone Atkins. I feel like he's got to go find somebody else, you know. We we don't know.
We're gonna try and get hurt us on later the week. But it was all set up if they would have beaten the Panthers last night and again Steve six and one on the road, they're on the road and then they get beat Wow. So if they do, if they'd have won the game, they'd be hosting it, hosting the Western Conference Championship this weekend. Instead it's Bay Area in northern Arizona. Well so that's that's that's that season's over. They went uh nine and seven. Um, you know the complete record was
nine and seven. UM playoffs. You know it's kind of like remember remember, um, I don't know how for a back how back? You remember when the bum Phillips was a coaching that used to remember they get keep getting to the playoffs. He kept losing the Pittsburgh right and he said, you know, we keep knocking on the door. This year we're gonna kick it down. That's what the sugar they got. No, Okay, getting to
the playoffs is great. Actually, hey, Luke had to deal with that in nineteen eighty five U six and we get there, We get there, but can't do anything. And finally you have to get there to get through run. That's three first round losses in in In in their four years, including their first inaugural, their first and their first year, and then the last two years they've gotten to the playoffs. And uh, they were they were not you know, they were not the higher seat, they were the
three seats. So they were supposed that's why I was on the road. They were supposed to lose. But twenty two to nothing. You can't you can't let that. No, No, it looked bad. Yeah, they were the better team the last three quarters. But that'll get you what that that in the cord will get you this half a cup of coffee holding. Hey, we've covered enough games to know that that doesn't mean much. You
could go thirty one and one. And in November two March time, I saw Pat Paris at the Houston Airport last out of the way back and we were both talking about how Jed Fish likes to talk about what we won the second half. We won the second half that you gotta win. You did. You're measured by that. That's how you're measured by that. Well, you know, I kind of look good, I got I clean up. Well, well what about the other times you're not cleaned up exactly exactly?
So okay, yeah, so that's too bad. Um, it didn't didn't work out for them, and they're they're out, So now, you know, move on and we'll see what they do, what they decide to do next year. All right, let's take our break, we'll be back. Uh and uh, we'll have a Matt Mordino come on and talk to us
a little bit about what he saw at Backdrop Media Day. agcats dot com. How are you met? As talking about? We're doing okay? How are you good? Good? You just come back from Vegas fresh and ready for the season. Yeah, I mean to kind of hear about all the teams and what they got going on, see all the players and obviously PAC twelve meet today is kind of the unofficial start of training camp, and you know, some teams are getting going later this week, and you know some of them have games in about a month. And I'm Arizona,
so it starts pretty soon here as well. So yeah, it's kind of feels like everybody's getting gone and ramped up again for the fall. So aside from all the you know, we don't want to talk about the TV stuff and all that, well, I mean we can do that at another time, you know, on the football stuff, what's you know, what's the big takeaway? Uh, you know from media day? What did you hear that maybe we hadn't been hearing or that you were surprised to hear those
kinds of things. Yeah, I mean I think, you know, the focus for a lot of it, and this was definitely been pushed by the conference and they want the message to be clear that it's about the quarterbacks in the league. But I think when you take a step back and you look at you know, the quarterbacks that you know have entered the league to the transfer portal and the guys that have been around and um, there's some guys
that transfered last year they're stuff into like their second seasons and teams. There is a lot of good quarterbacks in the league. And I think that's maybe something that feels like it gets overlooked definitely nationally and even something you know with us to cover the teams within the conference, maybe overlooked it a little bit. And there's a lot of quarterback talent, you know, across the board, and so I think that something to be you know, interested and intrigued
by with this upcoming season. And then a lot of different personalities. I mean, I think you look at all the various coaches and I think the coach has talked about most was the one who wasn't there. Uh, you know, Deon Standers has talked about a lot, He was asked about a lot, and I think every coach kind of said what they needed to say
and they didn't want to ruffle any feathers. But I it feels like there's maybe something, Hey, let's see what this guy is about, and maybe we don't always agree with everything and how he does about his business, but it's also it's interesting to see something that takes about Dion Sanders and what he's going to make sure the conference and then just a different personalities within the conference
and some of the coaches and what the pressure they're feeling. You know, all these guys go into their second or third years in the league to kind of see that play out. But yeah, I mean it was pretty standard. Vida did nothing too too crazy. Uh. You know a lot of you know, different teams have different things going on about their teams, but nothing's too too crazy. This year. Was there a single coach or yeah, coach that impressed you the most? I know, I didn't watch all
of it. I just watched some of it, not necessarily impressed you, but kind of the stand out I think when you asked everybody at the end of the day was chip Kelly for kind of a second straight year, which is really strange for a lot of people who cover UCLA and for those of us who have seen chip Kelly over the years, he hasn't been a super personable guy. He's gonna had a prickly personality and somebody that is not necessarily a huge fan of the media. But for the second straight year, I
left media Day going man. Chip Kelly was maybe the most sought and exciting and interesting interview and intriguing interview. He teered up a couple of times talking about, you know, his former decense and coordinator Bill McGovern had passed away this spring, and you know, it was just really he's joking and seemed
very personable. And obviously they've had a really strong, you know, recent time with recruiting on the transfer portal but high school level well as well, bringing in one of the top quarterbacks don K Moore as a freshmanness year, one of the top quarterback, one of the top players in the country.
Questions asked about him. But yeah, really, chick Kelly. I mean, obviously, well, Mike Leach was kind of that guy every year that everyone looked forward to hearing from and just hearing the crazy things he would say. But a lot of kind of even keeled personalities within the pact hole. But I thought Jeff Fish stood out in a lot of ways, kind of did his own thing and said, I'm going to start from the podium.
I wanted to feel like a true media day, and so he decided I'm gonna be the only coach who starts talking from the podium as opposed to just sitting on the couch to band set up. And so I thought that was interesting and you know, shut kind of his personality as well. But yeah, chick Kelly was really the one who was like, whoa, this is not the guy we've known in recent years, and you know, for the second straight year, kind of seem to be the guy that that one media
day. I guess he could say, how did Kenny Dillingham appeared? He the guys, you guy that's going to be you know, really good up at ASU, you know from early you know, early returns. It's so hard to say but I mean, I think the enthusiasm is there. I think he was probably the most enthusiastic coach in the bunch, and obviously for good reason. He's a younger guy and somebody's stepping into the big job in the first time and really is going to have a lot of the attention on
him. I thought he was pretty honest about, uh, you know, the situation up there and what they're trying to do. There's, you know, still a quarterback battle to be figured out and to figure out how they're gonna, you know, go about building that team and rebuilding that program. But it's so tough to say he's going to have success. I think there's
still plenty of question marks about him. Is you know, a play caller and what he's able to do. Yes, he's had his hands down a lot of successful offensive but it's going to be his show, really for the first time, and I think Glass he saw some glimpses of that and what he's able to be a boat Nix, he can't really ignore that. But um, I think it's gonna be really interesting to see what he's like running
a program and really having a chance to run things himself. Um, I think he was pretty open about that immedia day and stepping into some new things and having some different things on his shoulders that maybe he hasn't had before. And so um, time will tell, but I think the enthusiasm is there and that that's hop to battle in a lot of cases. Well, speaking of enthusiasm at home, how did Jed feel. I'm sure you talked to
him afterward where you probably got some better stuff away from the podium. Yeah, I think he understands, like most Arizona fans and everyone who has kind of pays attention to the program, that it's kind of time for the rubber to meet the road. In a lot of ways, this is year three for him, and you know, most of the roster has been built by him, and I think he understands like, hey, this is a real time for progress to me. But I also think he has a lot of
that will enthusiasm about his own program. I think there's a lot of excitement that he has about his own program and some of the moves that the team has made and the staff has made, and you know, we'll see what that leads to. But I think it feels like it's starting to get a little bit more serious from his end, and I think he understands, like, hey, there needs to be some more results on the field, and
that was kind of a sense I got from him. But I also think he understands at the end of the day, his program is a lot about having fun and trying to you know, bring some joy to the game, and that's kind of message has put out to a lot of the players, and so I think there's always still that element of, you know, this is a fun day and let's have some excitement and celebrate kind of things that
are coming up. You know. I think we had talked about, you know, what was going to happen with Jade Delora at at media day he was there, he got asked, uh, your your impressions of how he handled that whole that whole line of questioning. Yeah, I mean I think that it's it's a really difficult process to try and handle all across the board, and obviously there's been challenging things with that. There's not you can sally talk about every single thing that you would want to talk about and put out
there. But I thought when especially in the side session, when you get a little bit more of kind of an intimate setting its left on a stage. You didn't have a prepared statement in front of him. He was just answering questions. I thought there were some some honesty that came out, but I think needed to come out in that situation, and I thought he did a pretty good Whether he was coached up or just was coming it was genuine.
I don't know. I mean, there was some some honesty there, I thought from him that wasn't kind of a front because there's been moments when you talk to him and you get a sense of like, oh, this is not the real person and this is just kind of something he's saying.
It's not truly what he means or what he feels. I thought there was less of that, you know, in that side session when he was answering some more questions about what he had to say, and um, he didn't get as emotional as he did on the stage, but there it was clear that you know, this is something that's been weighing on him, and I thought, um, he was honest enough where he answered the questions as the best he could and without kind of you know, stepping over overboard or um
kind of derailing things in a way. And so um, you know, again, it's a tough situation all the way around, and um, there's probably better ways that it could have been handled across the board, but um, I think for him, I think the sea was stood up to me is that it felt like, Okay, there's some some little honesty here because he has asked about, you know, do you feel like your your reputation has been tarnished? And he, you know, he was very serious about
that, and he said he does feel like it's tarnishing. He doesn't necessarily know how to go about fixing that, and so, UM, you know, I thought there's some little honesty there, and for that situation, I mean, that's kind of all you can ask for. So we talked about this a few times, how we shouldn't they have handled this right? So
this is how they decided to handle this. What you suggest what would you you just said just now in a minute ago talking about how they should have handled it or maybe better from their perspective, I understand handling it this way, it's very controlled. Obviously you'll be rothless the one to ask to ask the questions, so you kind of get it out of the way at the
start of it. He has a prepared stating, which obviously they knew about, at least from my perspective, and you can control the message that way. I think my kind of method is but I'm on my side as a
reporter, would be you let him do it. You know I would have done it probably sometime during the summer, shortly after all these things came out, and you put him out there and you have him deal with the local media and you answer questions, and you go as far as you can you have you get it right there by the side, and you answer questions and
say what did you know and how how did you know it? And when did you learn it and all those things, and you kind of get it out of the way before the nationally I understand wanting to make it a one time story. You get it out of the way and one shot. You don't have to do this twice. But I think I think wouldn't beneficial to
have it earlier on and you have the local media. You know, they're with him, whether he has the prepared statement at that time or how do you want to go about it. But I think the closer to the situation and when it all kind of came to light earlier in the year that you have that, I think it helps you in the long run. But um, I understand their perspective of how they want to do it, and obviously
it's a very control environment. You do it. One time you have the statement, you have to answer questions about it from national media, Pactrol media, and I think in their mind you eventually move on. I don't know
that that's going to be the case, but we'll see what happens. I was going to ask you that, do you think everybody's going to move on or were enough we're enough questions answered about it that he is not going to get asked about it from people who are around right I'm talking about the PAC twelve media who are here, you know, every day. Do you think he's done He's able to be done talking about it, I think for the
most part. But I also think it would be nice to think that it's not going to come up again at some point, and I'm sure there'll be more questions about it asked and some more clarification wanted, and um you know, it's it's a tricky one and it's it's it's something I don't think it's going to completely go away, and um, you know I was seeking especially if if Arizona gets off to rust starter, Jane Laurie gets off to a rust start, the questions are going to be like, hey, is this
on his mind? Is there something that's you know, something that he's thinking about. Is there's something that's playing into it at all? And so I think it's going to be one of those situations that is going to come up again at some point. We'll see how long those questions go and what the
process looks like and how comes about. But um, I don't think it's It just doesn't feel like one of those situations that is completely dead and hey, it's over because he talked about it and addressed it at you know, factital media Day. Yeah, no, I agree. Let's move on from that. They finished their pick to finish eighth. I'm assuming you have them right in about that area. Uh, And then Jed says, this is our best team, this is our best team or his best team, which
of course makes total sense because the other team suck. Come on, I'm not speaking of a turn, am I. There weren't sucklass. They weren't any good, well, they were, you know what I mean? If this would be the best team. Of course it should be the best team, and it's gonna be the best team. Um so what did you make of that? Yeah, I mean I think it's it's it's where they should
be. I mean, it's I understand maybe fans of Tucson are like more optimistic than the media, but I think the media, you know, did a lot of good things with the decisions that they made. It there's a
clear cop group. I mean, we can all I think agree on that that they're a very clear cop group upper echelon of the PAC twelve, and then everyone else is kind of well, well, wait, you see, I think you know, picking Colorado allowed the spot on where I think a lot of people within Colorado and around that team as all know that much better
than that. But it's there's just so many question marks with a program like that with so much turnover that I think, you know, some of those same questions applied to Arizona, and that yes, the pieces they're starting to come into place, you're relying on on a lot of young players still and some developing players, and so I understand the question marks from the PAC twelve media at large to put Arizona in that spot Um, I don't think it's
wrong. I think I think there's still probably a year or two away from really making a strong run and being you know, part of that top upper tier group. And um, I think a lot of things need to continue to go right for them to break into that top four whatever that's going to be whenever realignment and everything is all settled. But um, you know, I think it's gonna it's gonna take a little bit more time for them to get to where they want to be. Now, do I think progress is
coming? Absolutely? I think you know, the base life that this year should be a six and six TV should be at the very least Arizona needs to make a bowl game this year and should make a bowl game this year, and then you go from there. And so, um yeah, I think any any year that you can connoted is our best team, that's time the progress. And so I think jet Fish is off base there, But like you said, the bar is not necessarily super high in terms of this
being their best team under jet Fish. So, UM, I do think this progress coming, And I think I don't think he's wrong for saying that. I think it's true enough here it but um, there's a lot of lots to be done with this team in this program before it gets still where it wants to be. All Right, who was the most impressive player who was not an Heisman Trophy winner? Yeah, that's an interesting one. Um,
I might have to think about that a little bit. I think I think any time you talk to cal guys, it's, uh, it's always
impressive because you know, they just they know how to speak. And so they have a center Matthew Sindric who's coming off a knee injury and it's going to be steping back into starting roles, mister Spring, and uh, he's really impressive to talk to you, and I think you just, um, you know, I think he understands what Tala is about and they're trying to get over this sump of you know, being kind of a mediocre team every
year and kind of in that seven and five wrainings every year. And I thought he was pretty honest about their situation, what they have going on, what they're trying to do, and so, um, he was definitely impressive. And then uh, sugar standards just from up here, this feels like you're talking to be on Sun type of deal. I mean, he was just you see it when you when he's right in front of you first came he go, man, this is a big personality. This is kind of
a chip off the old block type of thing. And he was definitely impressive. And he had a lot of flash, that's for sure. Shoes and chains, everything was There's he related to Beyon standards, you could definitely tell. But I thought he had a lot of good answers and um, you know, had a lot of positive things to say about their team and where
they're going and what they want to do. But I also thought remain really really realistic about what they're what their chance has done with you know, what their opportunity is in front of them, because there's a lot of work that
supps to be done for them as well. At Colorado. Did anything that was done or said or any appearance kind of make you think twice about kind of where you were ranking the teams, you know going in, you know, do you feel better or worse about Washington's chances to overtake USC or Utah organ whatever I mean? Or did it all just kind of it is kind of back right where you were, you know going in. Yeah, it's
it's interesting. I think that the boring answer. It is a boarding answer, but if you taught mean, I really do think that they're going to be right there when everything is said and done. They just they have such kind of a professional approach to how they do things, and they have such a mess to how they do things. And Kyle Willingham isn't to talked down
on anybody. I mean, he praised you know, what Jet Fish is doing quite a bit and talked about Arizona being, you know, one of those teams that he could see, you know, being out of the top six in the in the media poll and moving into that top six because of what you know jet has done. And um, it's hard to argue with kind of his approach and how they do things that Utah and Um, that was my thing was that it was like, it feels like that top group
is pretty solidified, but also wide open. I'm not some pole you sold on USC being the far and away favored, Oregon being the far and away favored. I feel like Utah Washington particular, could really make a push and be very talented within this conference and do some really good things by the time the season is over. But there's just something about Utah and how they approach things and uh, they're kind of low key nature about how they they go
about their business. That is really impressive. And I think we'll have them met right there in the in the end once again, Okay, cool killed. I don't want to talk about this. But the guy that I was really impressed with when he's podium was Taylor, the new coach that Stanford just a cow guy, right, the cow guys present. This is how old we are? Recovered him back in and he looked he looked old. He looked old. I'm thinking, how old do I look to Thank God,
I'm on radio, not on TV. Exactly exactly. All right, Well, no, thank you, hey man, thanks much, Matt, Yeah, absolutely talking, all right, We'll be back in touch. Thanks. Yeah. I know people have reference that up thinking I gotta shave, you know, it help on that much? Thank you? I shave. I shave all the time, and it doesn't help. All right, let's take our break. Where to come back. We'll take your calls five tiers there

Well, I have a take care from a from a listener who went on our Twitter feed, and it makes a good point and to the point that I you know that I made that. There's some people are saying, okay, let's move on to other people saying wait, what the hell right? G man too all on Twitter sense to us. So the QB basically gets away with the crime no answering tough questions and being coached up tells it ball. Yeah, Well, he's in an a win situation and I'm not
trying to make any other boys. He just says, um, let me just see this because I've said this before, and I think you nodded in agreement. Jay, if he was the second or third stream quarterback, he probably would have been like probably, I mean, I I yeah, I mean, I yeah, I think I have to uh, I think I have to believe that. But they believe in him. But they believe in him, right should they have no choice, which, of course is if you have a son, whatever, you you support them right, right,
right? Because if Jane Delord's my kid, I'm wanting him to get a second chance. You're supporting right, right. I understand what he did, and I'm wanting him get a second chance. Where do you put that? Right? And and again you've got you got a penis on all side.
You know. I was talking to somebody the other day and he started to say, well, he was sixteen, and I said, don't they do not Yeah that, do not say that, because I know when I was sixteen, I knew the difference between right and wrong as far as what allegedly happened here. So don't go into that he was too young to know because he was not. Uh So don't don't do that. Don't even start that
conversation. What happened happened? And what did they say? They had a conversation pretty much ended right there, right, you're you're right, you know, so I'm torn on this too, and and look I've got I've got daughters, right, I'm torn on this, you know, and my daughter's kind of like she wants me to hate him. Oh really, yeah, you know, yeah, you know he did this to a girl. Why why don't you you know, why aren't why aren't you harder on him?
Totally understand, and I completely understand her, totally understand. I won't ask you which one, but no, there's no butt. I won't ask you which one. But again, this is the choice of people going to school, going to the games, right and applaud right, and who are they applauding? Right? And then the people who aren't going to come to the game yeah because of it? Yeah, right now we've heard from those fans, so it's it's there, there's you know, and there's no right answer
to any of that, right, exactly right. This guy on on on Twitter is as right as a guy who was saying give him another chance, no question, no question. Are you a tough situation? There's no no doubt about that. Right. I'm gonna make sure that we put that out there though, because we did. You know, we love it when our our listeners respond to us, and we wanted to make sure that that they
thanks for the twet think we appreciate your listening. We appreciate you're sending us that give us someone talk about you know, it's there there, you know, and then you know what that part of this is gonna hang around. Yeah, it's gonna be tough on the road. We all know that it's gonna be just like you know, media may not ask the questions anymore and they may move past it, and you know, we may get to camp next week and nobody talks about it and stuff like that, but fans talk
about it's still gonna be the elephantive real part of the kind. It's exactly, it's the elephant in the road and it will be all season. Yeah, you know when when he does well and well, yeah, he shouldn't be blamor when he does well, they say, well, you know he's trying to you know, you know, he's trying to fix this or whatever you want to say. And none of it is wrong, really, none of it. No, it's a tough situation. Hey, what's the divorce
rate these days? That's two people not getting along and to just two people. Right now, you have a situation where many people have their their opinions and these are right or wrong. You can't agree, You just can't agree. We're in a world where people can't agree for anything exactly so anyway, but you know, again, I from me to standpoint, I think they'll move on. I agree with I think I think you know, but you know, um, you go play wherever we're they're on the road of Mississippi
State, Washington second Washington on the road Missisippi State second game. Right, they're gonna go up there, and so he's gonna ask that quinns Washington State game seven games in the middle of seven weeks in somebody over there again someone's do you know the students, Yeah, looking here, come on the people here saying f you and blah blah blah to whomever. Yeah, okay, yeah, it's by by no means is the conversation over the question of where's
where's it going to take place? And in what in what's the sebity? Right? Okay again, if anybody wants to call, please do five two, four, one, six, seventy four, forty please do. We're gonna have James Kreppia on the other side talking more about what happened at the PAC twelve. He was right in the middle of it. He us and we'll get him more from the other stuff that was going on there as it
relates to the PAC twelf TV deal. He was asking some questions to George claff Coff and some of the stuff that's made national news about what George claf Coff said and didn't say right, it didn't say yeah, right, we'll see when the well, the clock is still ticking. Yeah, and it's a ticking ticking and ticking. M did you I didn't like and I'm sure you liked. Uh. The Vegas is going to be pretty much a central
hub of Pack twelve. Yeah, don't you think in the matter of time before they moved there, Well, George lives there, Yeah, so you know, I mean it looks they've made it clear that a lot of the stuff that they do it's going to be remote anyways, right, Yeah, But I think their base will ultimately be Vegas where they actually like have an office, you know, they they're building some studios and stuff that they're yeah, you know out in out in Walnut Creek near where their old office was
out on that side of the Bay. I think ultimately because of the championships being there, and they're probably gonna stay there. I mean, I can't see any reason, or they would ever move from the two basketball championships from football championships in Vegas, They've got a nice foothold and people like for all the right reasons. I would imagine this at some point the officers have to have to go, although it's strange to have your office in a place where
you don't have a team. Yeah, which may ultimately bear well for U and LV. You know, if they can academically, you know, become more of a more of a player and be you gonna have bad athletics. Maybe some day down the road they're part of another realignment, and who knows by that time it could be all changed anyway. H Yeah, So there's that, and it's it's the place to be for all this stuff, which is kind of strange, man, it is. Yeah. Yeah, it's
funny because I was in Dowstrow right by the SMU campus. Yeah, And I looked over and looked over the side, and I asked my daughter. My daughter said, does that look like a Pactrol campus to you? They both said no, no, but it's it's in a perfect spot, a fluent area. Yeah, I know the area well yeah, um, and and I wonder what they're saying, you know, I'm just we should maybe we should get a Dallas guy radio guy like saying, Okay, we're people
here are poo pooing? That are they saying? They're not? God? Yeah? Who are else of you? They're not good enough for us? Because one of the things that I haven't heard that it's got to be out there somewhere, right, is Okay, if SMUs leaving the Big twelve, who else is? What's it? No? What's it gonna cost them? Right? When can they leave? How much is it gonna cost? We should try to How do you get them? Well, well, yeah, let's get somebody from Dallas. Yeah, you know, Oh, you're not
good enough to date us? Well, what makes you think that you're good enough to date me? What do you mean? What makes you think I want to be dated? You know? Hell, people ask them. You are a pretty much laddie dah Right, Oh yeah, we're gonna deal with people from Oregon State? Hell with you? Yeah? No, seriously, I mean, you know, everybody's assuming that SMU wants to come to the back ball. Yeah, where if they go? Right? Right? And
what do they think about that whole? I get it, they're not in a Power five conference, So they would say, well, why wouldn't you want to come come to the PAC twelve? But you know, yes, you know Dallas, and then you got Seattle way the hell up there. Sure, how much fun is that for them? That that's been thrown out the window snow with LA going to yeah, to across country. The police ruggers that that is very true. The stuff that we used to know doesn't
exist anymore. Yeah, you know, that's that's very true. Well, you got by U. It's gonna have to go out to West Virginia, right right, right, that's gonna be a weird thing too, that not whole by you all. That new league is gonna be crazy. Well by U, Central Florida, Houston, who was the other one, Central Florida, Houston, Cincinnati, CINTI the last one. Cincinnati fits right, they're
kind of there even by U sorta. You know, if you're gonna have Colorado, if you want to go get Colorado, the why not by you know that that's but Central Florida way the hell out there, and West Virginia didn't belong there the first place, but you know they wanted to get into it. So we'll see confidence like that. Yeah, we'll see what happens. We'll see what happens. Uh, it's a get closer to We got about four or five weeks, right, immediate local stuff, Arizon Immedication Next
Tuesday, Tuesday, Yeah, tuesdays. The first Tuesday's the first. Yeah, so that's okay, that the day it is or the second one of those days. It could be. I think it's on the first and practice starts, Okay, then that's what it is. Yeah, um, yeah, so we look forward to that. It's gonna be oh man, I just don't even want to think about it because we haven't got a schedule late afternoon or early morning, right, it's got to be in the morning to
go out and practice. I would think until school start. It'd be good if they do it right, doing right right until school starts, right at least? Yeah, um yeah, but I almost I almost kind of like when that that practice during our show, so we don't say there, Yeah, we got an excuse that we would be there, but we have to do the show. Would be interesting to see how jed relationship with Justin develops, because he was always talking to Lev and yeah, you know jokes with
them. You don't like that you already know that he's gonna be buddy, but they're gonna that's who he is with the media, like he's kind of he's not in bed with him, but he's he's a smart cookie. Yeah, there's one thing he is. He is a smart cookie. Do you think he's a good coach or you don't know yet? I think he's a pretty good coach. Let me say, I think he runs the program really so in fact, who did we have? Who do we have one?
Last week? Who didn't want to say it because maybe he didn't the words didn't come to him, But I know what he was thinking, who do we have last week? I after the schedule? Oh could have been could have been Heath? No, No, it was Yogi Roth. Yogi Roth likes him a lot. Oh yeah, Buddy likes him a lot. Buddy
Brad Alice was on, uh big game Boomer likes him. Maybe maybe it was like and just maybe it was maybe it was a big Game Boomer because he doesn't he wanted to say he's the CEO of the program, which he is. I think he's a very good thing. And that's that's what you wanted to try to say. I think he's a very good I know. Yet whether or not he's a good that is an old football coach. I think he can coach some offense. That's that's the accurate thing, is right.
He's got some good players eleven or twelve or ten eleven or back whatever assistance he said, yeah, yeah, okay, so he's got he's got good people in place. What does a good CEO do? Good people and let them do their work right, and he's kind of the overseer. Dick was a little like that, kind of with Rome and do the things and
be the coach. When he added to be the coach. People people would fault Dick for the fact that he was always wearing headphones on the sideline, but it did never look like he was doing anything because he let his guys call play right, right, right right, and there was nothing wrong with that, you know, And that's what a good confidence CEO does. Although I think Jed will always be the guy that calls the play. Sure.
I think that's the part he probably enjoys more than anything, is being able to call the plays and and run the offense and have the relationship with the quarterback and the whole bit. You know. He always talks about his relationship with with Jade Delora, and now this year is really a year that they
can really get into the relationship because they haven't. They really kind of haven't been able to up to know the two will forever be linked together, Yeah, because one needs the other now and the other needed the other one right as this will always set the tone for what people think of Jed going forward, whether he has success down the road or no violence. Check our second our last break of the hour, will come back breaking news the top of the hour. Stick around
