Extreamly live on the I heard radio wat. This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Hey, welcome back Toy the ball Hero, Fox Sports twirteen fifty. I'm Steve PSJ. Now we have Henry with the bookings. O. This is I on the Ball breaking news on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. So the MLB drafts started yesterday. Grab his Basanna from Oregon State went first overall. Guardians, three of
you guys have been selected in today's rounds. Pitcher Jackson Kent went to the Nationals in the fourth round, Pitcher Clark Candiote went to the Padres in the fourth round as well, and pitcher Anthony Susak went to the Rangers in the eighth round. Kenyotty what okay? Was Kendyatty? What? Jackson the league guy? He was the number one? Yeah, he was a Friday starter. Okay, so he was She was the main starter then then and actually
Susak got off to a bad start. I think he was a starting pitcher for and then he was a setup and then all of a sudden he became their closer and he did really he's a lot of a lot of had a lot to do with why they got, you know, where they got showed all their arms. Yeah, so three yeah, three really three of their four top pitchers are gone. Not surprised with any of them though, really and uh and I guess nobody. None of their recruits have been picked so
far, which is good. So you know, you feel like if if he recruited some guys that at least those guys might be showing up. The Columbia Football Federation president and his son were part of twenty seven people who were arrested at the Copa America final yesterday in Miami because they were fighting. According to the story on ESPN, they were fighting with the security people trying to get on the field and and they've they've they've charged with three counts of three
foulon counts of battery. This is after the game before I think it was before. It sounds like that was part of the problem, not that people trying to get in. This was this was elsewhere. This it's had nothing to do with trying to get in the stadium. It says they were trying to get on the field. The uh who the president, the president Ramon is it Heson hes On, So I guess he didn't have his name tag
either on it. J E s U r U and he Ramon and and his and his son Ramon Emil. Uh they were they were both got three fellon accounts of battery, uh, according to UH. According to this, it says the The policy report goes on to say that the altercation with the hest instern physical. Once a security officer asked the men to step back by placing his palm on the kid Ramon Emil to guide him back. According to the officer of the duo quickly became irate at a garden, began shouting at
him, and then I apparently escalated from there. Don't you know who I am? Yeah, but that was that was chaos. I don't know if he saw some of that. Yeah, I mean there's I'm gonna show a picture of of escalator that had been destroyed. I don't know. I don't know how you would have done that. There were you know, like there were people, barriers, people were foll there were barriers trying to hold people
back. People were squished up against them and falling over, little kids and stuff getting smashed, and they're just you know, it looks it's people that came to the game, didn't have tickets but decided they were getting in, right, they didn't have tickets, and they and then and then and then and they got in and at some point, at some point, it got so chaotic at the gates and so dangerous that they just opened the gates so
anybody could go in. And so you'd go to your people going to their seats, and there were other people in their seats, and they weren't leaving, they weren't giving up the seats. It did bring up concerns for the woke up in the World Cup totally two years because America, the United States, is a ghost. Yeah. Yeah, you can't handle your situation. You can't handle this, but you you can do with the America's Cup. Wait till the you know, wait till the Euros show up and there,
you know, and their people. You know. I I was certain, okay, I we didn't actually bet on this, but I told my daughter we were watching the game, and to my daughter, I'm gonna I'm gonna tell her, I guarantee there's gonna be a fan incident during the game that stops the game, either a riot in the seats or fans on the field during the during the match, it didn't happen. So Richard, Richard, this is like Twitter is when you send me notes. I'm gonna I'm gonna
say this because now it's no longer your notice, it's everyone. So Richard says, becoming a third world country. We're we're coming to change charging the gates, throwing what next to charging of the gates? Throw urine bombs? Stabbing somebody his socker sucks. Well, first of all, you know these fans were they were the Columbia and Argentina fans. So I'm gonna blame it on them. And I don't care if somebody wants to call me and say
I'm an idiot and just make you know I'm judging. Yes, I am judging, okay, because this stuff doesn't really I mean, you have situations, you have brawls and things like that, you know, among individuals at US sporting events all the time, but you don't have major sport events like this for people to say, I'm coming with or without a ticket, and I'm getting in. So, Henry, I want you to meet my new co host, Archie Bunker, to do Archie bunkers. It's too long to
explain. But our listeners Google, Yeah, our listeners know who we're talking about. But serious, I mean, you know, look, I mean you know they're rowdy soccer fans. We don't have rowdy soccer fans because you can't win. You got to be a winner first. But for whatever reason, Steve, I'm just saying we don't have them, not to this extent.
Not to this extent, they don't do that, all right. And in the actual game, Argentina defeated Columbia one to nothing to win the Coco America in extra time an extra time and it was last few matches were very good, but it was a great Semis Swinels. I really had fun watch and I can't remember having fun. Well. I've had fun watching other soccer matches in the past, only if I had money on. I had no money on. I just watched it no apparent reason. It can be done.
It can be done for no apparent reason. I just watched it and I sit from start. I mean I sat through all the pregame stuff. Uh my, my, my, my daughters were making fun of the studio host and her dress and saying it it didn't it didn't fit with what they were trying to do, So there was that kind of commentary. But I sat there through all the pregame stuff and then I watched the whole mass. I went to google the outfit. Yeah, it was just it was just
a funky looking dress, just crazy design. And in the euro Cup final, Spain defeated England by score of two to one. Yeah that last it was the last second goal to It was in the last couple of minutes, right, Yeah, that was it again. Yeah, that was another one. That was a that was a fun thing to watch. At the end, I was still feeling the sting of that Dodge loss. But again, you know, I don't know why these two these two tournaments became kind of
important to me, not important, but just worth watching for me. Well, no, are you hooked? No? But there was nothing else on. But there was nothing else on, right, you know, I didn't feel like watching the baseball game that was on last night with the Dot and I don't want I don't want to watch any baseball. That's part of it. Well, the Dodgers are souring you. Yeah, so are you okay? Team USA basketball defeated Australia in ninety eight ninety two in an exhibition game
today in United Arab Emirates. Oh, Australia. I guess Australia is pretty good. Notable players on that. You know, who are some of the notable guys on that? Or what's his name? Josh Green is on that? Yeah? Yeah, the game a good game, game, a good note. Everyone on ESPN after the game says, what's wrong with every game is a different game. There's actually some people out there saying that this team is better than the Dream Team. Yeah, I don't. I don't know.
Shake yourself, I don't. Yeah, I don't know. It's like people saying Lebron is better than Michael Jordan. Yeah. Yeah, maybe we're too close to it, or it's our not our not our age group because your son's group is more this group, right than our group. Yeah. So I'm sure that they didn't see that they were even born in the dream They don't even they don't even know that. Yeah, but they do this. They had anything before nineteen ninety They have no idea what happened. There
was no World War one or no World War two, no Vietnam. They don't know. Oh, I wasn't born yet what shut shut up? Did you got a history class, Henry? Did you? I mean, I can take one look at the roster of the Dream Team and just say, yeah, exactly, exactly, there's and there's a bunch of Hall of famers on this team too. But I'm sorry, you know, put put them at you know, the at that prime age against these guys at their prime age, and the Dream Team kills them. How old are you, Harry,
You're a sensible twenty year old? No wonder we like from the Arizona Women's soccer hired Nat Gonzalez and an assistant coach, and he had been the head coach a U SEE Riverside since twenty eleven. Yeah, it sounds like this is a great hire. There's been some reaction to that are on social media that this apparently is a great high for Becka Morrow. Oh yeah, yeah, okay, I don't know it's all, but yeah, it's funny because did you read the did you read the release? No, they're all
into they're into strength and training and analytics and all that stuff. I don't know what when this's happened, but it's all that. Now kick the ball, it's play the game. I mean Honestly, this is we're old dudes. Now I'm feeling sixty or whatever. But before didn't we just play and if I was better than you, I'm going to be better than you. Yeah, I just remember, I don't know if this applies, but we
have time right when the football coach stoops Mike stups here. And remember there was a dude or alleged dude on Sixth Street who could be looking at the practice field, and there was concerns. And I'm thinking, Mike, is is that really a concern because isn't it your guys against their guys. I'm better than you, and I'm gonna prove it. They know what you're doing. You're supposed to be better exactly. It's whether you were uniforms uniform. I'm there to kick your ass. Yeah, I don't care. If you
know what I'll run. You can either block or you can't. Right right now, hear you? When did this all change? Where was I sleep? It changed when video became such a part of the ease of video became such a part of uh the game prep use of the use of video.
You know they, I mean they have video on the sidelines now and in some you know, in some leagues and stuff where you can you can go, you can go look at the plays that you just ran, see what they did against those, and then try and you know, do come up
with something else. And then now that you know, with different types of software, programs and stuff like that, I mean, how do you know some of these baseball stats that you see that you know, Joe Blow he's batting four twenty one against a right handed pitcher who who throws you know, an eighty five mile an hour change up and he's he's he's batting three forty one against the change up. That's why they had to shift right. And then it was a good enough yeah, you know, and and stuff like
that. It's just when data became so available through the various types of software and video, and like, I don't understand how they get some of these statues exit velocity and you know, all that kind of stuff, exit angle and launch angle, sorry, launch angle, those kinds of things. And they know the launch angle of every hit in Major League Baseball now, and I'm like, what the hell? And that's when it happens, Steve. And then when coaches, coaches man just started believing it. Yeah, yeah,
right, I get. When the shift came up, I get. I mean, remember the first time you saw the shift when you saw three infielders on one side? What are you doing? Wait? Wait wait wait wait wait wait? Why why wouldn't you hit it over there? And then they didn't. Well, it's kind of a cool to a scouting report. We used to watch and scout and this guy likes hit up a middle. Yeah, yeah, but this is all kind of crazy. But hey, they're not pay me millions, so I wish they were not you me.
Okay, last thing I got. The Tucson Sugar Skulls lost to the San Antonio gun Singers forty nine to forty three this weekend to fall to two and thirteen on the season, and they have one more one more game. There are games within one touchdown. Must be Yeah, a whole bunch It might have to, but guess what you still lose, still lose. That's a whole bunch of them. Ant on the local teams. But it's thirty two team single elimination tournament and they start on Friday and they host right m Yeah, yeah, Friday, and that'll be exciting. Who knew the start of the season, Oh

We have Tim Eberson from the Manhattan Mercury newspaper in Manhattan, Kansas. Tim, how are you how you
got doing fine? Thank you? Last time I was in Manhattan, there was something called candy Gate. I don't know if you know what that was, but I'm sure you can google. I don't know. I don't think you can google it. No, actually it was in Kansas. It was versus Kansas and basketball. Oh so never mind, he got see we yell at people who confuse Arizona with Arizona State, and now Steve does that right now, I'll believe the show right now. Great to have you on bead
that Jay found you. Are you as excited as everybody here to see that Kansas State Arizona football game? Yeah? I mean it's at least for Sate State. It's kind of the first kind of marching matchup of the season, and it's our first look at at the Four Corners school. So, I mean, I think everyone around here was super excited whenever we landed before of the guys and uh, you know, we're excited to kind of get this
new version of Big twelve up runner. Well, Well, let me go to that because uh, you know we're sitting over here and we've been in the Pack telve all this time. You know, what were the I mean what kind of reputation I guess these four schools and particularly Arizona have you know, among you know the big twelve, right, What where do people think of these schools coming? Uh? What do they think of their football programs?
Obviously you know Arizona sticks out with basketball, but you know when we're talking football, they're kind of like, uh okay, they're you know, kind of middling schools. Utah has been good recently with a couple of rosebells. But you know what what was that? What were the fans thoughts in terms of what was being added to the league, particularly in football? Yeah?
Absolutely, Well, first and foremost, you know, Colorado is like you know that inebriated Hausen that you for a while that you're kind of welcoming, welcoming back. Well, we're very, very familiar with them. Yeah. And then at the Arizona schools. I I know that uh K State in Arizona and Arizona State have played in the somewhat recent maybe Arizona not since
the seventies. Airs in the state fairly recently. Programs have had their you know, their height, but nothing you know, super super impressive, you know, just at times Teddy, A lot of coaches has gone through. We've known that. And then obviously Utah, as you mentioned, have kind of been the is kind of this been the standard bearer of the non USC Oregon right act. Well, and so we're you know, expect them to
be kind of kind of like k State in a way. It's kind of a hard nosed, kind of blue collar you know, win winning the line football team. And so I think that is you know, broadly, at least from my perspective, kind of what what the what their reputations are. So how long have you covered Kansas State for a while, Uh, it's been in college. No, it's probably been you know, we're going on like eight years, so they've been off and on. Yeah, they've been
pretty good in your stretch. Yeah, Yeah, I've I've been lucky and then said I've taken over this job. You know, they they went Big twelve, they went to the Sugar Bowl, they won the Pop Tarts full last year that I've I've been lucky to get them kind of in their stride Okay, so so you've seen some pretty good football. I think they went second or third in the I think I picked second in the media poll, right, yeah, did you vote and where did you have them? I
did vote. I had them as number two, also with utah number one, just because I felt like, while I, uh, well, I think that there's a lot of potential for Case State, especially offensively. They got some young pieces that I think are going to really make some noise. I just felt like Utahaw was kind of had the more established situation, had the more established quarterback, and you know, it's just kind of proven that they are among that that upper echelon. Well, let's go to the quarterbacks.
Let's go to the quarterbacks, because there's a lot of you know, obviously Arizona fans think they've got the best quarterback in the league. You guys think, you know, or Kansas State feels like they do. Then there's all these people who think that it's Shador Sanders, who's you know, being picked as the best quarterback, but yet their team got picked to finish eleventh in the league, which is an incredible conflict. I think in terms of
like, okay, how do you how do you pick. How do you say you've got the best quarterback in the league, but you're going to finish eleventh. So just some of your thoughts on the quarterback situation across the Big Twelve. Well, it's it's it's a very strong situation. I mean I think that, uh, just if you go school by school, well there maybe with the exception of one or two, there isn't a school with a quarterback that I don't think has a pretty strong enough side. You know,
I have gotten to see Avery Johnson in action. I do think he's the real deal. I think that there's a you know, if he wasn't, I think that Will Howard would still be in Manhattan instead of about to start for perhaps the number one overall preseason Ohio State Luck Guide. But I mean, what Arizona what what what? What Noah did at Arizona last year was was phenomenal. I think the whole new coach thing makes you wonder how that's kind of gel But obviously he has a pieces coming back that are going to
help immensely came rising. As I did mentioned kind of that standard Bear and Daniels at Kansas, which is if he can stay healthy, he's as dynamics as anyone. Aric Green at West Virginia is going to be you know, are going to surprise some people. Uh and I you know, and I'm I'm forgetting six other rough robec to that at Iowa State had a surprisingly good freshmen year and he should be better. So it's just it's a really fun league for quarterback play. For for this upcoming season, we should see a
lot of really really good quarterback. Well have you backed Tim for basketball? We have a lot of time left now, but I'm the basketball guy, so we'll wait for that. Uh So, other than other than Noah and and t Mac probably who else do you think or who else do you know of Arizona? It's not not it's not a very long list. I haven't been able to fully dive into, Uh what else you guys are bringing back
out of those are kind of the big name. Defensively, I feel like I feel like there's a linebacker and that I feel bad for not having Yeah, I know that that when when when Jed split, you guys didn't lose as much as maybe people would have thought you would have with the transfer portal situation. And then we get into coaching, so I know that in general, you were able to kind of keep a lot of that talent around,
which is exciting. I mean, I you know, so let me ask you, in your capacity as a sports editor and the big guy, I'm assuming you travel with the team. Yes, it kind of depends on how far the road trip is and everything. We haven't really figured out where all all be going. But in general, yeah, yeah, so what what's the more rabid places for fans and the places that are great venues to watch the game because there's no fans probably need to kind of write those and write
those names down absolutely. So, I mean, you got you're gonna start off with a great one. I mean, Manhattan, super fun rabbit fan base. It'll be passed. It'll be like out. You know, it's a Friday games, so that's going to add an extra little something to it. Iowa State is, Uh, it's tough up there. I mean, and especially if you play them when it's cold and miserable outside, it's it's
not a fun place to go play. Oklahoma State, Yeah, they got the paddles and they're always super good and and and uh, definitely I think one of the more underrated environments te Tech is fun. They learned. TTU aren't anything super spectral. But when they're good, they you know, they're they they they pack it out trying to take I'm for getting anybody else. Oh, West Virginia. West West Virginia also one that's just they're just a
rabbit up there. West Virginia just sounds like an un fun place to go because of that, because they're fan base and they're they're just nuts over there. But then it's for you know, Arizona. That's going to be the longest trip, I guess, probably a longer than Central Florida. Yeah,
I mean it will be. It's interesting because you got to fly into you gotta fly into Pittsburgh and then you gotta you got to drive in from there, unless you pay to fly directly into Morgantown, which I have been told is more Okay, All right, Andy, So let me ask you this, and this is you know, we're going back, you know, back aways on this. But what's been the overall reaction to Oklahoma and Texas and them starting all of this that happened. I mean, are big PAP fans
pissed at them? Are they happy they're gone? Are they upset that they threw everything into total chaos, or are they just out of sight, out of mind. It's it's it's a little of all of those. I think it's different for each one. I think Oklahoma there'll be some sadness that at least at least from non Oklahoma state people. That's because that's you know,
they got to deal with that themselves. But at least for someone who from from McCool has just been in the conference with them for over one hundred years. You know, you're sad to lose that history. You're sad to lose that that bringand and they truly geography, they belong, they belong the big problem. I mean they're big eight member, they were big seven member, they were a big six numbers. So I mean they you know, they've been there from the beginning. Uh. Texas, it's it's it's you know,
don't let the door hit you on the way out. Uh. They they came in when when the Southwest Conference dissolved, immediately took over, use their you know, their money and everything. They kind of bully everyone around, and they got you know, the last seat of re alignment before this
most recent one. They got the long Coorn network out of it, and they got you know, they've found a way to chase Texas, A and M and Nebraska out and uh, you know, I I will think that anyone will miss They didn't provide enough on the field for anyone to feel like losing them is that big of a You know, they wanted they won the Big twelve on their way out the door, but they still I think I saw a graphic earlier today that of the returning of the long standing Big twelve
numbers. They like have since uh two thousand, they've won f or fixed most games out of everybody what not. It's you know, people aren't aren't gonna miss it, right. I want to tell CONTI that because we had the who do we have the car? The guy from Washington Post to one of my buddies said the same thing. It's like Texas thinking they won five or six national championships right in football, and they really haven't. They had to stick out the chest like that. But that's good to know. Uh.
So, you you talked about the league. I think it's going to be very balanced, right at least in the top six seven, would you agree? Oh? Absolutely, I think even deeper than that. I mean, I I don't want to mess around with you know, Arizona's and are not Arizona. Houston is in you know, deep rebuilding mode. But you know they just they just got a great coach. I don't want to I don't want to mess around with that. They they state the year that they
want the virtual title. Julane came in and beat them with UH and then of course the coaches. I'm blanking with those things. But yeah, literally it is, you know, back to front, it's tough, like buy you people are saying, oh they're taking a step back, that's going to be tough. You see, it's going to be a lot better the state. You know, going in the year two of a program under a new coach is you know a lot different than the year one. And they seem
to have some stuff that you're out of quarterbacks. So I don't know, I mean, it's it's going to be a blood bath, I think, so, Tim, how many how many regular seasons? This might a dumb question regular season championships has Kansas State won? I'm asking the reason for a reason. I'm asking the question for a reason. Yeah, may one trying to think I mean three four more? I think it's four, Okay. So the reason I asked that because we talk about this all the time,
Arizona struggled throughout the Pac ten Pac twelve years forever. They never really had a chance to win one outright, right, But I think the people here think that now is their chance because the league is going to be kind of comparable to what they've been used to, but better. You know what I'm saying, It's going to be more equal. Did you feel that way too?
Absolutely? I mean I think with any you know, it's it's going to come down to I don't know how the gonna break, you know, tiebreakers, but there's probably going to be you know, six schools with seven or more wins, and it's you know, I think that any anyone is going to be able to knock off anybody. It's gonna be super fun to
watch. Yeah, I mean, I think that's what we like about it, and that and that, as you said, that doesn't even get into the basketball piece of this, which is going to be you know, even better. But you know, look, you know, looking at this football season, a lot of discussion about how even this league is. That that's
good, but then what might be the bad part? Of it is if the league cannibalizes itself, they might only get the one automatic spot in the in the playoffs, you know, and then there might be five SEC teams or something anything like that. And I think that you've already seen your mark his whole Like didn't We're going to be the deepest league. I think that's already starting to start the campaign. Hey, there's a lot of good teams
in this league. Don't don't forget about us just because you know we have, you know, four teams with three or four losses that three or mortal
fear left locks. Let me ask you this because let me ask you about Bret Yormark, because you know, from where we were sitting over here in the PAC twelve watching it slowly deteriorate into eventually nothing, and you know, we were seeing Bret Yormark as a guy who was really having a lot to do with the PAC twelve falling apart, and we didn't like him because of
that, because we felt he was wrecking the whole thing. Now Arizona's in that league, and I'm like, okay, he we thought he was a jerk, but now he's kind of our jerk and we like him because he just seems like a guy who's going to go out there and try and get stuff done. What's what's the overall your overall impression of Brett Yormark and how he's running the league. I think that he is and I say this POSI
I think he's a shark. I in the sense that you know sharks, you know that they're always moving, They're always they're always you know, trying to move forward. And if he if you give him an opportunity to make this league better, he's going to take it. Yeah, you know, if you leave yourself open for that. He has the league's number one, you know, priority in mind. He's going to make you know, you
know, I feel I think people still feel bad. I still feel bad for Oregon State and Washington State. Now they were kind of left out in the polls, but you know what, the Big twelve is stronger now with the four foreigner schools, and that's your job. And he does I don't think he feels like you need to apologize to anybody. And with all the hubbub around the ACC, I would I would be I would be nervous if I was a Virginia or I don't know that's one of the other smaller institutions,
one of the schools that's not cleansing Florida State. Right, Yeah, well, thanks so much for joining us. We'll probably talk to you as we get closer to the game. Yes, thank you guys so much. We've covered a lot of stuff today. Yeah, it was good stuff from both sides, with the with the NBA simmer League and now with Tim.
Uh. That's a good story. Good stuff that we're doing, not to pat ourselves on the back of my brick in my head, reaching out to these people who knew there were stuff better than we do, all right, Yeah, I mean we're and we're learning too, and so they right because you know, he couldn't name the people that there's other pieces, but you know it's all it's all fresh, yeah too, Yeah, yeah, no, it is. And you know, and again there's more and more discussions.
You're this stuff about Florida State and Clemson. Yeah, it's getting legs, right. I mean, somebody brought it up once and it's kind of like, you know, don't be surprised if then all of a sudden, it's like everybody's talking about it. Yeah. And the only thing I've heard about that that that is that financially it doesn't make sense because one of the reasons that there they are where that they're pissed off about being in the accsy
not they feel like they're not getting enough money. Sure that they're the two football programs that stick out and they feel like they should be getting more money than the others. Well, what are you going to go to the Big twelve and you're gonna be okay with getting thirty five million dollars a year like everybody else? You know, what, what are you going to accomplish by leaving that? Right? You're not going to the SEC, You're not going to the Big ten. So what are you going to do? Right?
Well, how does it make sense when you feel slighted? I guess that's part of it. You know, no one's treated me like we should be treated I don't I don't know, but you're right, though, the piece of the pie is what the piece of the pie is, right, you know? I mean, is ESPN going to give the Big twelve more money to bring those two teams into the league when they've already got them in the ACC because the ACC is also an ESPN contract? Well, why is it?
Why would the why would the the Big twelve, you know, put more money? I mean, why would the ESPN put more money in the Big twelve when all they're doing is movie you know, from one league to another? That are they going to take their shares from the from the ACC
contract and put them in the Big twelve contract. But that doesn't make any sense because again, the whole reason they're not happy is because they feel like they should be getting more money than the rest of the teams in the ACC because they bring more, uh more eyeballs, you know, with their football program. Yeah, well soon, I think it's gonna be a while before
we hear what's going on. Although that you know, there's like you say, there's legs to this, Yeah, because there's been some legs for a while. Yeah. I mean, I'm just flipping through through social media or through you know, Twitter during the break and Aaron Torres has put up a thing that he's promoing by saying, you know, thee this f SCU clems and stuff is heating up. I'm like, doesn't make any sense. But what I like him in the league, I don't even know, right,
because we just got rid of USC in Washington and Oregon. Now a sudden, we want to bring Florida State and Clemson into the league that Arizona is in. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean would you would it improve the league? Sure? Sure, But all of a sudden, now it's not as it's top heavy again right, right, No, the f SU is not usc but it's but it's but it's something like unefeated last year,
right, so you know it's and then Clemson is no slouch. Right, So you're thinking, Okay, just when we had a chance to be a title contender, right now, you're gonna bring in two teams. We're gonna be already you're behind them already, right, So I don't know. I mean, I guess I wouldn't. I wouldn't say no, don't bring them
in because I don't want to have to play those guys. But you know, I guess I'm not one hundred percent sure of what it adds to the league, well, you know, and then what it does for the a SEC. Yeah, I don't know. Credibility probably, yeah, But but you don't need to create if you're already in. We don't want them. I'd like what I here's what I'd like to see, like everything else, like them talking about expanding the the CFP playoff. Let's run this for a
while. Let's just run this. Let's go with this, and let's see how what it looks like and how it works. Get you know, if it's two years, three years, five years, whatever. You know. We we went through a lot to get to where we are. Let's see how it works, right, you know, Let's get the new car off the lot before we start talking about putting any stereo in it, or some new tires or you know, a better paint job or whatever. Let's get it off the damn lot and drive it around for a little while. Look
at you with it now, Like the analogy. Yeah, yeah, you didn't like mine, but I liked them. I didn't like you mistaking Kansas for Kansas. Oh yeah, but that was nothing analogy. That was just it was just a mess food. I don't even know why I thought that, because Lawrence is obviously Lawrence, and Manhattan's Manhannen two smallish college sounds. Yeah, Okay, we have nine minutes. Anybody want to call. If you guys try to call and get on know, it's your chance. Five
two o four. I saw so, so I know I know what you're talking about with Bill on your note to the about the Dodgers. He had that note on Facebook. Yeah, I see see. We've talked about him a bit though today. Anyways, in the end, because what Brian called it, Brian doesn't call it, we don't talk about it, so he was just checking on me, he said. He texted me. He texted me after the when they blew the Brian did when they blew the lead in the in the on Saturday, he texted me and just asked me, are
you okay? And I said, I'm golfing, so I have no idea what's going on? I didn't see it. And then he asked me. Then again, he texted me again after yesterday's lost. I'm like, I'm fine, I'm fine. We're at the All Star break. Let's take a break, come back and knock it around. See what happens. They're still the first place by a bun by I think six or seven games. I'm not too worried about it anyways. So are you gonna watch it Omer and
Derby Night? Probably not. I'm too busy the trying to get your bubble Gum and Scott State for now. I mean, hey, I'm not alone. There's so many people. All right, let's take this call. Hi, you're on the air and Iron the ball. Hey guys, this change. Hey James, what's top Well, I've been trying to tell you guys for two years of what's going on. With these batting averages in baseball. But maybe let me write this down, hold on, go ahead and go
ahead on tap record, So that'd be fun. And I know what I'm talking about, big boy. Okay, go James. I'm gonna I'm gonna pay attention this time, all right. It's about probability. It's all about probability of scoring, not getting a hit. The objective is the score getting
a bank hit is useless if there's no one off a bank. So that the objective that these general managers have figured this out over the course in the last several years, and there's a higher probability of scoring from a home run, then they're ins from scoring with a walk, a base hit, and a base hit. And so I did those numbers with Jay last year. If you look at a decent home run hitters, and I hit a home run about seven or eight percent of visit bats, Now that would be a
power hitter, some of them more often. If you take on basementercentages and multiply them one against the other for a succession of three at bats, you're dealing with something in the neighborhood of five percent. So the difference I can do those numbers for you and be better. You caught me at a bad time here today. You're already giving me a headache. But that's okay, I feel asleep. Numbers give me a headache, But go ahead. Well
here's the that's what that's what's driving. That's what they're looking at. I get it. It's probability. It's not probability of getting a hit anymore. It's probability of scoring about probability of nobody coming to your games if you don't generate some excitement aside from an occasional home run. I mean, that's the probability that I'm that I'm thinking about. I couldn't agree with you more. Let me ask you the warning the game of baseball with this Yeah, and
the other thing driving it, Jay is who gets paid these days? Who gets paid? The home run is yeah, no, no doubt. So even the second basement are trying to hit three home runs? Yeah, and strike to be damned, they don't care. And that's what's happening. Hey,
let me ask you. Let me ask you a detailed question because she's yawning, But let me ask you a detailed question with this whole thing, this whole thing with runners on second base at the at you know, in the when you go into extra innings, if you're if you're the manager. Let's say you're you're the visiting team. Okay, so you've got your guy on second base, they're gonna have their chance with the goud on second base. Are you bunting them over or not? It depends on who's coming up.
Okay, It's all depends on who's coming up behind it. Okay, let's say your nine hitters on is on second base, and you've got your lead off here coming up and whatever he's batting, are you go, are you gonna use your lead off here to bunt him over? I know, I know if your three hitters coming up, or if your four hitters coming up, you're not gonna ask them to bunt. But here's what here's where you are. If you if you've bunt them over, then you've got one
attempt to drive him in without losing the inning. In other words, he hits the ones that trying to hit us sacrifice by the batter the batter that comes up after the I'm moving them over. Uh. Then you're you're sitting there with two outs and man on third and your number two or three hitters coming up. Those aren't bad odds. You figure the number two or three hitter are there for a reason, right, But still that that player has
to produce a base hit then to score a run. Yeah, but if you bun them over, all you need is a sacrifice flywer and in some cases a ground ball. You just got to hit the ball to score the run. Why why why? They just doesn't seem to think It seem that they just don't seem to think that it's important to get that at least get that one run. It's always that we've got to get two or three. What enters their mind, see or J is the other team's got the same
opportunity right after. Okay, I get that. Now, now you're in the bottom of the end. Okay, Now let's say they don't score their run, right, they don't top of the inny. You got a guy on second and there's still not bun him over. What the hell I don't I would bunt that guy? Yeah, okay, all right, sorry, I'm up with the tie score bottom ten runner on second base. No starting up you guys, but my alarm just went off, my wake up call, So all right, all right, mister, fundamentally. I appreciate it.
Thank you. Is it in the morning already? No, man, it's just it's a peeve of mine. I mean, nuts, the Dodgers did that the other day. You want to get the run across the bottom of the inning, extra innings run around, second game is tied and the swing what are you doing? No, No, that's but that's it's that that's old school baseball. I want to smack. It's all the cut that James Jim was talking about where it's different baseball now. And not that I'm
an old school dude, but it's old school. Moving the guy button across, get the sacrifice, I get him in, and you win the game? How novel? Whoa? What a concept? Right, I'm trying to still stop my arm. Jim, all right, sorry about that. I had to get that straight. Jim, as you could tell him, him, the big baseball guy. Yeah. Uh. And and he, you know, uh, pays attention to all of that. And I do to a degree from the standpoint of what how I think baseball ought to be played.
And and again i'm you know, I'm multiple, you know, a lot of it depends. You know, Look, have you seen this in actualte grid baseball thing. You haven't seen that. I'll show it to you at some point, but where you're trying to name players. Oh yeah, you know, different categories and stuff. So m h. I'm with some guys that we do it every day against each other's for of us, and so it's it's had me thinking about all the old baseball players that I've known
over the years. You know, the the Johnny Benches and the Joe Morgan's and the Sandy Kofax and Don Drysdale and all those guys, and all those people come to mind, and I think of baseball from I'm thinking about baseball from those days every day now because of that, and I that was such God. I just love those times. Well let me say this. I saw something over the weekend. I don't remember. I don't remember what it was, but I saw Ron Say in a Cubs jersey right he was playing,
And I'm thinking, when did that happen? Yeah, he went to the for so when they didn't feel broke up in the in the eighties and the early eighties. Yeah, okay, so say what to Chicago? Uh? Garvey with Garvey went to the Padres David Love stayed with him for a while, but he ended up like with the Brewers in the short stop. And Bill Russell just retired, okay, because I saw even even Fernando left and he went and pitched for Baltimore, I remember, and some other pitched
for Baltimore and Milwaukee. I don't remember that. You know. I fell asleep. All those guys, all those guys left, and they and they came in with you guys. Well, we gotta go, we gotta go, all right, find out what we do later tomorrow. We have another show. You see what we did coming in. We have one we have on Wednesday too, and then Thursday or Friday. All right, Hey, be back tomorrow and follow us on the podcast. We'll talk to you tomorrow.
