Streaming live on the iHeartRadio WAPP. This is I on the Ball with Steve Robera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteenth fifty. Hey, welcome back to my I on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jay. Now we have Henry with breaking news. This is I on

the Ball breaking News on Fox Sports fourteen to fifty. So NBA free agency opened yesterday and Paul George signed a forty year, two hundred and twelve million dollar contract to join the Sixers, Klay Thompson three year, fifty million dollar contract to join the Mather Mavericks, and Jason Tatum also signed a five year, three hundred and fifty million dollar extension, which is the largest NBA history, and he will be the first player to make seventy million dollars. Seventy

million dollars in one season. Steve, unbelievable. Well, they're selling the team too, right, Yeah? I had that. Yeah, this, you know, these contracts were coming across on social media and stuff, and I'm just going, what the hell have we become? Ticket prices going up? Yeah? Yeah, I mean yeah, i mean, I'm you know, and look, I mean they're they're spending it because they have it,

I guess, right, But I'm just crazy. I'm just like, seventy million dollars a year if the if the owners are paying this, how much are the owners making Say that's the thing. They've all got these teams and they really don't care. They're toys for these guys. Now, you know, none of these owners are trying to make money off their teams. They just want to have great teams and win championships and go to the locker room

and sniff some jocks. I don't know the money, you know, but well they're they don't want to lose money, Okay, but they're they're not these aren't. This isn't where their businesses are, sure, yeah, right somewhere else. They're making their money elsewhere. And then they get to play with these things and drive them around like you know, like fancy cars, and sit in the front row or sit in there right in the box.

I know if I were an owner, and this is just me stupid, and I would I wouldn't pay seventy million dollars to someone to play basketball, would you. I would have a hard time being an owner if that's what I had to do. Yeah, yeah, yeah, if I if that's what I that's what it takes to be an owner, then I would probably rather not own that team. That's just yeah, that's just me. Speaking of owners, The Celtics ownership group led by Wick Grossbeck, is planning to

make the franchise available for sale. Amazing. Maybe maybe Rodriguez by it. I'm joking, of course, but because you couldn't buy the Minnesota team, right, they took it away from him, him and the other day they were supposed to buy it, and then they took it away and now he has no team to buy. It was announced today that Arizona Baseball will be heading to Houston next year to take on Texas A and M. Did you see that Tennessee huge? Say huge? Who's in it again? Read it?

Tennessee the defending champ in Texas A and M the defending run. And then they had there's another Mississippi sim state. It's like wow, yeah, And then you have did we have this last week or this came over the weekend? You have softball softball information they're going to Italy or they just went to Italy? Are they're going to Italy? Now? Like? Right?

Now right now. Remember we trying to reach it. They're right now, right now, Yeah, George Lopis, I think so that they went to Italy, they playing a big I didn't say that if care was involved in this because he's been helping the team US Italy, and I think that's what it is. But what a great experience. And in fact they're taking the seniors that were just seniors with that with them. That's a cool thing.

Yeah, And it's not paid for the school. It's paid through donors to Yeah, because now you every time they do something, you have to want to where's where's the money coming from? People are unemployed. Now you have to where they're paid pro interesting, Okay. Caitlin Clark was one rebound shy a triple double as the Fever beat the Mercury yesterday. I watched that. I watched it. I watched it only because I'm curiously got about and she didn't have a great game. It was. They kept talking about it.

They could try to get her to get a rebound, but she didn't have a great game and she was even not even the best player on her team that yesterday. But it was a good game. It was. It was seventeen thousand people, and you can hear it once again, you could hear the other the crowd actually cheering for the fever. She didn't have a good game, and she had seventeen points I think nine revounue. They were taking her out at the end for defensive right, right, right, No,

it's a good game. The Taroshi had a good game, so did what's your name? Because they respect each other now and she had some great quotes after the game. Seventeen thousand people once again, and right, and she was the visiting team. Guess what's gonna happen? Jay, And they kind

of started talking about this yesterday. I'm sure they've done it before. At the end of the year, they're gonna say Kumbaya, thank you, right, you know, they may not have said it two weeks ago, but at the end of the year, they're going to say thank you for what you've done for us. Right. Well, if they don't, they should, yeah, right, they should say that to all the TV coverage, all the sold out stadiums. Yeah. And it's it's helped with other stadiums

too. It has. Last thing I got John Gruden lost a bid for reconsideration and an NFL lawsuit he filed against the NFL. He resigned as coach a couple of years ago. Right, I'm sure he wants to get back into coaching. I would think, you know, that's that was the whole purpose of that, is to try and get back into coaching. Yeah, no, I would think that he wants to. But dude, you said what you said. I mean, you're pissed that it got out. I

get it. You're mad that somebody you know, threw you under the bus like that. But you said what you said, so you can't erase that part of it. So you know, good luck, good luck with that, Good luck with that, you know, Yeah, I mean you know you you make the bed man, You make the bed laying it. You had all the NFL in the NFL, NBA trans signings and all that.

Philadelphia looks like it could be the team to beat. Well then yeah, they they elevated to like the second team with the second odds to win the champions. Who would be first to Boston? Boston, Well, Philly. If MB doesn't get hurt, they have a chance. Paul George Clippers are

gonna get hit. Obviously, I'm looking at I'm looking up to see if they have win uh Conference champions yep Celtics plus two ninety five seventy six ers plus eight hundred in Oklahoma City eight fifty, then Vernuka's eight fifty, Nicks nine to fifty, Timberwolves a thousand, Mavericks a thousand. So there you go. Yeah, they they've jumped up pretty fast with that. I mean, look, somebody put a you know, pictures of the five guys who

are the projected stars. He thought, that's a pretty damn good team. You know, it's a matter of pot obviously, the matter of what's behind it, but it looks like a pretty good team. That's all I go. All right, you know what it is besides Morning Pac twelve day, it's Bob Oh, that's right. Just for a lot of a lot of memes and videos, you know that I saw one of somebody driving up and

would look like a like a nice looking jag. He gets out of the car and it's not Bobby Bonia, but it's a guy dressed to you know, the nines, and he's kind of strutting walking into a building and say that's Bobby Bona getting getting the city field today to the one Basketball Park, one point two million until still until twenty thirty five, until twenty thirty five. Crazy, See, we should have been better at baseball. Yeah, we'd be making fifty bucks fifty bus. That was a funny thing that my

son said. He got up to my grandson, who's, you know, a year and a half old, and he says some words, but he's really basically not talking. And he just walked up to you're going to be a basketball player. I forget about baseball, forget about soccer. You're going to be a basketball player. And I'm like, he's a Gonzales. He's a Gonzal. Yeah, he's gonna have to be a heck of a guard. Well, first of all, he's gonna have to get really tall.

He can good. There aren't any six footers in our on our side of the family. Okay, so if he's not going to get to six feet, he's gonna have to be a damn good shooter. Well, I suggest soccer or baseball, like golf or or golf or golf or golf, and that's very possible. Yeah, you better start playing now. Yeah, Well, those he already is. He's got a golf a golf club that he swings around the house. But there was a fifteen year old in the golf

tournament last week tournament. Well, he missed the cut. He was close to the cut all week long. You had talked about that. Plus the sixteen year old runner he made he made, he didn't have that. The runner he made the track team he did make the olympicthy, yeah, he got in. He's said they're gonna put him on the roster to run for just in case. Oh as a as like an alternate. Yeah, okay, Wow, the youngest guy will ever be fifteen years old, sixteen,

sixteen, sixteen years you're a golfer was fifteen? Yeah, what a thing? What a thing? Yeah? So yeah, and there's also a sixteen year old in women's track too, who I don't know if she if she made it. Yeah, well that's Fred Harvey. Yeah, we'll talk to abouball this. We got about two minutes before we take off. We can do that now and then get them, get them so you can have time to get to board, get deep. All right, okay, yeah, let's do that. All right, Le's go ahead, hit the brake.

Now we have Coach Harvey on the phone. Coach, how are you? I I'm doing doing next one, you know, you know trans you know, uh, transporting back from Eugene back to two seen to Tucson after the you know, the Olympic trials. Who wanted to actually talk to you about the Pittsburgh Steelers?

Never mind? How was it? How many times have you done this? You've done this forever? Well? Well, you know, but you know, talk about the Steelers is always a great thing. You know, they're gonna they're gonna be sensational this year of contrary to popular belief. No, what you're about coaching are Eugene. You've done this, You've been to coach here like thirty some years. How many times have you been out there? Oh my god, I've been. I've been to Eugene every single year since

nineteen seventy six. Oh my gosh. How old were you when you were seventy six? You were like twelve that. I was a senior in high school, so I was actually seventeen years old my first trip to Eugene. I think you may have tweeted something or somebody did. How much how much change there's been since that time? Oh? I mean it's I mean,

it's it's really I mean the transformation between then and now. Mean, just you know what Eugene itself, you know, the old historic Hayward Kill something just you know, the behold and the new facility is I mean it's grand

and everything, but it doesn't have the same favor. You know. Yeah, we're you know, we're getting you know, getting great championships the area and you know in the performance levels are are tremendous, you know, but that that that real feeling of you know, being in that stadium when the fans are really right there on top of you. It's it's it's an entirely

different field. Interesting. Interesting, So you you spent the weekend over there watching some of your athletes and former athletes, just well what was the feel? I know there was some disappointment, but they still performed really well. I mean what's your takeaway from how how your your athletes did. Yeah, you know and with without you know, you know, shadows out not trying to you know, uh, you know, pamper anyone in the athlete. I mean it's it's the hardest team you know, in the world to try

to make. And you know, Jordans you know, being you know fourth you know in the shot and fifth you know in the you know, in the hammer, I mean you're so close, but you know, it's it doesn't know, it doesn't satisfy it because you didn't make the team. And you know, just get into the finals of any of these events. Talibans, you know, makes the final and she she hit three hurdles and that

and that's that can't happen in the race of that level. But even even if she was clean, uh, you know, I seld that she would have ran a really nice pr and probably would have run twelve twelve five in that area, but she would it still wouldn't have been good enough to make the team leaders. There's three young ladies that ran you know, under twelve four that aren't going to be on the team and that and and those times will make any global finals. Right. Well, well, does she have

a chance to come back in the four years? Oh? Absolutely, matter of fact, she is literally in flight as we speak over to Europe. She has one and race uh in three days there in France, and then she will head to Ireland for two competitions and then she's in Switzerland you know for uh, you know, for a competition. So don't cry for her. She's doing well, oh yeah, I mean, I mean, you love to be on the team. But okay, I'll just get on this

flight and I had to Europe and have some competitions. And what about Jordan, what's his future? Yep, I mean you know, he definitely, I mean he goes, you think as well as he's been going and from his freshman year hex senior year in high school on. People think that he's

really an old person. He's just an full soul, I mean, and so I mean he has you know, he definitely has a minimum of four years left in what he wants to do depend upon you know, his ability to be able to you know, get sponsorship and continue to get and continue to train at the level that he's training at. Well, when do you know that one of your athletes, you know, when you're here at the u A, when do you see or know or get a field at Okay,

this is a person who's got Olympic potential. How do you tell from on that? Well? And so much, I mean it's looks that I mean, it's it's it's really early on because you know, I'm getting away from those athletes. You know, you know, I have a young lady who is just a sophomore this year Antonia. You know Sanchez Nunez who just won the Mexican Championships in the four hundred hurdles and uh and she ran uh the fifty six oh two, which is not going to get her, you

know, get her to the games. But at that age, and you see, when you're that competitive and you and you win championships, and that's the big thing. You have to win championships. I don't care if it's the Junior Olympic National Championships or you know, the Texas High School state championship. You have when you have of those, you know, any of those athletes are going to have the capacity in terms of their talent to be successful.

But you have to you have to start learning how to win. And that's where we you know, you lose a lot of these athletes that have talent, but they don't understand how to win. And that's you know, and when you see that, that's when you really have to you have to grasp you have to grab onto that and really, you know, do a good job of really you know, mentoring that and nurturing that aspect of you know, of winning because you you know, because you you're You're talented.

The talent is there, it's just now a matter of can you, you know, understand how how to win coaching? Me ask you just for clarification, do you have anybody going to Paris? Not at this time that we personally coached in Tucson, but we have, you know, a couple of athletes that are are going to be competing you know, uh, you know, and you know, like uh, you know in you know, in you know, in in Paris. You know it's like, for example, O, my god, I'm losing my mind here. Our memory is just

killing me here. But you're just getting old, friend, You're just getting old. But we have we have three athletes you know that that are going to compete you know, uh, you know in you know, in Europe. I'm not sorry, in the in the Olympic Games. So are you gonna be out there then? Yeah? So my wife Jan and I we are definitely going out, uh you know for the you know, for the games, and then we're gonna leave there and head to grief for fortieth anniversary.

Coach, did you see your can you tell us about the sixteen year old kid Quincy Wilson? I mean, what are we what are we seeing? I mean that that is just and that he is something special and that is you know, I mean to say the least. I mean you you get yourself in the into the relay pool, you know, at sixteen years of age, in the four hundred meters all the events you know on the

track that you know that it's watching him run. He's not a kid that just goes out and then throws it out there and then hangs on for dear

life. This guy is running down in the last you know, one hundred and fifty one hundred meters, He's running down some of the best people in the world, you know, and that's that's so rare, you know, to be able to see that, you know in a young person that's usually you know, their hair is on fire and they're just running like a bat out of hell, you know, the first half and is hanging on for

dear life. I mean, he's he's so patient and his ability, you know, to be able to you know, you know, be able to close that the rate that he does, I mean, it's it's really remarkable. You know, all the respect in the world for you know, that young man, so so is he I know, he's gonna be part of the team. So is he gonna run that relay or is he an alternate

in that relay? No? So what what? What? What? Most likely happened because he did he did play high enough in the open four that the US team will will spare their you know, the top athlete that they want to run in the finals. So he will most likely he will run a leg you know, in the in the pleminary, in the priminary round. But he wist he will, well, I can carry out. He will definitely not run in the finals. Okay, all right, Yeah, but here's the Kid's the kidd he's sixty. Well, first of all,

this is not a recruiting question. Is he going to go to college somewhere? Is he being recruited? Well, well, again, if you think about how young he is, yeah, I mean he has you know, two more years of high school, right, you know, and he's definitely being recruited. The the reality of it, honestly, you know, I

don't see that happening. I don't I don't see him participating, you know, in a collegiate system because quite frankly, I don't think a collegiate system is the best system for him because he's going to be expected to run you know, indoors, indoor conference, outdoor outdoor conference, and then it's it's too much running on the bonding, right, So I mean we're looking at a kid who can be in what four Olympics kind of ye yeah, absolutely,

well your younger male version of Dera Thoris exactly. Man. You know, it's just it's incredible to think about because I think, what was I doing when I was sixteen years old? Run from people? Well, I I was cruising speedway, you know, and it's but that's amazing. So what you know when you when you finished, like, okay, your season's over all, you know, all this is over. I know you're going to the Olympics. But what does Fred Harvey do? Now? What's uh

what you know, what's on your on your plate going forward? Well, I have a ton of things. The one my wife and I we run, you know, the largest youth program in the country and are in the city Tucson lead athletic club. So as soon as I touched down, you know here in Tucson, this evening we have track. We have a club track practice this sevening at start at six six pm. We're taking forty three

kids from Tucson E League out to Colorado next week. Uh yeah, next week for the you know, for the Jail Region ten championships, and then we have the national championship so out in College Station after that. So we're you know, so my life is, we're you know, we have back to coach our youth. We're still we are actively actively recruiting, you know.

And then the one caveat to my new life here is that now I have to hire a new horizontal jumps coach because my coach, Bobby Carter, was fortunate enough to get a head coaching job you know out in Texas at tall uh Tallers and University out just outside of Dallas, and so now I have to find a new a new jump horizontal jumps coach. And but I've been working on that since uh uh you know, uh, the entire week

here at the at the Olympic Trials. So that you know that that's a real positive thing because it's a it's a very very you know, coveted job, you know that, you know, that horizontal jumps job that we have. So I'm hoping to narrow that down to a part uh you know, you know, a pool of five or six, you know by the time I touched down in Tucson and we can start doing work. So are you looking forward to the Big twelve? I am. I mean it's it's gonna

be really fun for us. And since that, you know, we get you know, some new new blood that we get to run against and jump against, throw against, and in the conference. But you know, but how we get how we get to our our NCAA Championships, that doesn't change at all. I mean, regardless of a conference, you know, we still have to you know, qualify athletes to be in the top the top twelve story, I'm sorry, top forty eight to get to the first round

of the NCAA Championships. And that really doesn't matter what conference you're in. And yeah, then from there it's it's it's, you know, the procedure is still the same. It's you know, you you know you uh you know, to get too onto you you know, to the to the finals. You're going to have you know, you go from down from forty eight down to twenty four. And uh so that's that doesn't really much matter what conference you're in. So coach, when we got about two and the stuff.

I wanted to talk to you. We talked to mister Geist, We talked to Delanny Schnell Schnell about n I l uh. They both said, you know, it's not about us, it's is this more about basketball and football? But you must be affected to because you need good athletes coming here.

But you know, we and and and it and it does affect us, you know, and and that question of the I think the difference between you know, a football athlete a basketball athlete, not saying that coaching is not imperative in those sports, but in our sport it is far more imperative because when you talk about the individuality of what we do, you you may have, you know, someone who you know can offer you this big nl

I Gill as a four hundred hurtler you know at an institution. But is it just about the money that you're going to get or do you want to try to make Olympic teams and then those coaches have to be able to coach those kids one on one? You can you know, think about basketball n I ls it's it's a it's a it's a different thing. You're you're in

a program, You're gonna get a lot of exposure. It the coaching does matter, but the one on one coacheam that it takes in our sport and I know, you know, rather it's swimming, diving, you know,

track and build. It's it's a different animals, So you don't we don't have the same types of issues that you know, you don't see kids jumping from you know, uh, three different schools because they're going to get a better nil bill, you know, but it is, it is definitely creeping its way into our life and we're going to have to be able to do some things you know better. You know that to be able to you know more and more, so, subsidize a lot of these athletes on our in

our programs that we you know that don't have full rides. So with with football, basketball, you're a head counts for so you're on a full ride or you're a walk on. There's nothing in between. So you know, in our in our sports, I mean, I can have an athlete that's on twenty three percent and having to figure out, Okay, how do we subsidize their rest so that they can you know, they can compete and they

can train at you know, the level that they're capable life. Well, coach, I know you've got to get on a plane back to Tucson, so be safe and well, thank you for talking to us. No, hey, I definitely appreciate it, and I'm glad I was able to you know, fit that in. Yeah, thank you appreciate it. We'll talk about the Steelers later. I hope you heard that. Okay, Well, we can stay on if you want, and we've got about five minutes we

can't. You know, he makes a good point because you know those sports do the individual coaching as it pertains to your future is you know, is a big deal. You know, a track coach, a golf coach. Well, right, let me tell you this sixteen year old, fifteen year old sensation. Right, how much is he gonna go? He's gonna make well that he's probably you shouldn't even go to college, right, he should just go straight into professional and they get they can make some money. Yeah,

a lot of a lot of that stuff is overseas and stuff. But he's got a future in that. And then at the same time he and still be in the Olympics. Yeah, all he wants. So I covered the Olympics twice in Australia and Greece. Let me ask you because I know my answer. That's why I want to say it. What's been the most impressive thing you remember seeing out there in an event? In an event?

Yeah, my god, Steve, It's hard to know, and I already forgot to guy his name, but you know, to me, I was always a sprints guy and I loved watching that, you know, watching a guy like Usain Bolt or go back and see you know, think of a of a Carl Lewis and you know, go back even you know, all the all the way back into the seventies when I, you know, really paid a lot of attention to this. To me, it was always seen how those times keep getting lower? Right? How? Yeah? Humanly possible?

Right? Yeah? How you know the people running those races can are constantly getting faster and faster. I'm like, okay, when are we going to go? You know, when is somebody gonna break? You know, uh, nine seconds in the hundred meters? Right, I know we're still high. But you know what I'm saying, I mean, where is there is there a place that is not humanly possible? Well, I think we've seen it. I originally asked his when husaying Bolt did what he did.

You're thinking, how is this guy doing this? And then I remember just just twenty sixteen. I don't know if you remember this, the four hundred meter guy Wayne. Then I didn't even remember his name, Nightkirk, the Night Kirk. He was in the final eighth I think it was eight slot and you're thinking this guy, okay, whatever, and then he blows everybody away, just this normal dude. And I'm thinking, how is this possible?

From that lane? And you're thinking, holy well, they go back to Bob Eaman in sixty eight, right with that long jump that you don't think pos still the record, right, you don't think possible, that's still the record. And that record was set through the math, you know, fifty six years ago, and you know, how did he do that? You know, when you feel like it's a sum sort of a superhuman effort, you know, to do something, it's nuts. And I just that's

what to me, that's what track is. That that's what the uh the not the interest, but that that's what to me fascinates me about track is that you know how far a human being can go to, you know, to do something. I know, every time a record gets broken it's broken by you know, one one hundredth of a second or something like that. But those records keep coming out swimming, especially right you know, these swimmers

are faster than ever, yet the records keep getting broken. And there's somebody faster out there, and there's probably a twelve year old right now who's going to break these records in you know, six or eight or ten years,

you know, and you go, how how can that keep happening? How can the human possible human evolution be for these people to bring I know we're getting deep into the weeds on this, but to me that it it's it's sort of like the impossible, right, I mean when they you know, when the when the foremen of Mile first got broken and now how you know how low is that now? Right? Right? Right? Okay, So let's say that's what fascinates me. Let's take the break, come back,

Yeah, we will take some calls now. If you'd like to call US five duol for one

six seventy four forty. That'd be great. You know, I thought Javi and Morales put up a really fun poster, fun tweet today, showIn all the helmets for you of a football from you know, going into the Pac twelve until today or Pack ten until today, And it was fun. It was fun to go go back and look at all those and and the changes, how the changes came with different coaches and stuff. Oh, let's take this call. How you're on there, How you're on the air and I

on the ball, Nico, where you've been? Hey, man, I've been California for in the dreaming and you're back here because you got kicked out or you came back on your own. I ran out of money, man, I was entertaining, Nico. Man, I want to say rest in peace to the Pac twelve. Yeah, yeah, kind of sucks. How old were you are you? Twenty eightish? Yeah? Man, I got ninety five, ninety five, so ninety five that was the middle of the

toy and when seventy Wellev seventeen years before. Yeah. The actually, you know you've always known the Pack well, the Pac ten and then the Pack twelve. Yeah, That's all I know is growing up. Now. I got to get used to this truck, that conference, the All state conference. Yeah, it's just it's pathetic, but it is what it is. Yeah. Again, it's better than being in the a sec or or being stuck with Washington State in Oregon State. Hey, you got a point man.

That last thing I want to say, shout out to Kevin Parazza, who who did one? He wont he want to gold and silver at the xkn Okay, okay, send us a send us a text. Is your friend of yours? No, I don't know. I just okay, Okay, maybe we'll try to tuck him down, try to check him down. Ken Parrazza, yep, Okay, all right, Nico, you're a correspondent. Thank you for biking. All right, that's an idea. But anyways,

going back through these helmets is pretty cool. You know, the the the Tony Mason helmet, and then he got fired, so Larry Smith came in and sort of a version of that helmet for Larry Smith's first year. Then they went to that block A that was for a lot of a lot of Larry Smith's here or actually in the DA Tony's years then they went to what we call the academic A. That's the logo. Now, I remember being upset. I was just gonna ask you change that logo. I was

just gonna ask you, so you know how much uniforms? Just give me an uniform place? Are you one of those guys? How they look and how they feel? And oh the blue on blue with the real No, I've liked the helmets over the years. Oh, let's take this talk. I know who this is. Hi are on the air and I on the ball. What's going on with State? Hey there, Peter, how are you? Pete Williams? I went to are you? Let me ask you a question? Jay's over here. Jay's over here crying and got some listeners

crying. The Pac twelve is over. Are you crying? I'm not crying, but but I am. I'm really sad. It's you know, I grew up on this again. I did start watching like in the second or third grade. That's where my I know, hate is a strong word, but my hatred for UCLA grew back in like seventy seventy one because I was a big sc fans still am and Ucla and Bill Watt and those guys just

just tormented my trojanes and tormented me. But I told you guys before, when I was a kid, I could name every starter on every basketball team in the conference back then. But so it hurts. But no, I'm not crying. Man, Well I'm not crying either. He's making that crap up. I'm like you, I'm sad that it's over. I'm bummed that it's over. And you know what, Okay, let's go on to the next one. It's a new adventure. But yeah, I can't help it be bummed by what's happening. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know.

One of my best friends he played at TCU from eighty five to eighty seven. They won two south West Conference championships. And actually TCU was the first school I actually visited on the recruiting train and actually the first time actually took a plane fight. So that was a great conference back then, if you think about it, the Southwest Conference, right, and I think that thing actually dissolved, and never in my wildest dreams that I ever think that the

PAC ten Tact twelve wouldever it be in that same situation. Yeah, I think of anybody, Pete, you're going to be affected because Arizona went to l A a number of times and you were always there. Yeah, yeah, well, I guess it's got to mean the other road trips. TCU is definitely gonna be one, for sure. I think I'll do that one pretty much every year that they go to Fort Worth, so many other ones can't. Maybe not so much. But yeah, it's disappointing, it really

is. I am you know again we're looking at I'm looking at this this thing that Javio Morales put up with all the helmets over the years for a Zona football, and it made me think back to you know, all those times right you were you were the basketball guy. I you know, I grew up I loving basketball, you know, Fred Snowden and all those things.

But football, to me, it was the sport that I followed, you know, that I bleed for, And just go back all that time and see, dang, there were those were some times and they were for you too. Even as a kid. I didn't know a lot about Arizona football really even up into high school. But I didn't know about t Bail and I was just annoying for whatever reason. But then when I got to U of A, and I think my junior year. They were I think

they were preseason number three. You know, when you had Ricky Honley, you know, Tom Tounny Cliff, Jay Dobbins. It was just Vance Johnson, Randy Robins, Allen Dirton. I could just go on and on, Steve bo Way, I mean, Charlie Dickey. I mean, it was just they were. I mean they were a great team. They really were. Larry Smith running the show. So I walked into an awesome situation where I got to see really good football, you know, my two years of the U of A. And it's just as I said before, it's just

so disappointing. Man. Yeah, okay, Well, and then again, when you're coming from a perspective somebody who actually played in it, you know, the close as I got was the time I rushed the court, you know, yeah, you know, you got crazy thinking it's like, uh my little pack hand Hall of Honor thing or whatever. It just don't seem to mean anything now because it's over, you know what I mean, It's

nothing they could take away from me. But the significance of it is kind of it's just kind of turn us down to the conference is gone, you know. Yeah, that makes sense. Yeah, We'll always honor you. Pete. Don't no kidding, Pete. Yeah, okay, thank you man for calling in. All right, I don't know it's gonna be on the air, but you guys, I shouldn't be surprised anyway. You gotta take care and see but look forward to seeing you guys towards what the third week

of August when we do that camp thing again. Okay, thank you, thanks about me. Appreciate it, and thanks for not not throwing out, you know, not realizing you're on the air and thrown out on that pum. So it was nice and Pete, good shop. Yeah, you know that's really something right, all those you know, whatever awards you got and all stuff for even taking the conference that doesn't exist. I mean there's still mean as much. I mean they do, but you sit there and think

all these things and now that conference is gone. Yeah, and you know, no more of those, you know, but you know, I guess you know, we made a big deal out of Arizona, you know, baseball winning the last back ten Pac twelve you know championship, the baseball team winning the last Pack twelve championships and yeah and there you know, as they say, forever champions. But oh man, yeah, it's you know,

it's uh, it's the time. It's a weird. In fact, we had gone through some people right talking about the great times that they had had. I try to reach a Meal Balk two to see if you can call, because he's he's effected. He played in it and now he was announcing in it for a long time. I don't know. I'm not sure what his future is now with the Big twelve. Take another call. Hi, you're on the air and I on the ball. Hey guys, this is Lobo Phil. What's up, Lobo Phil? How are you guys doing?

You're taking thirty points in your Lobos I'll take that thirty and a half. Actually, I want to comment. I want to comment on your discussion about if Arizona goes eight and four this year, would it be a disappointment, would it be a success? Would people feel good about it? In my opinion, I think most U of A fans would feel that it was a

disappointment because because and the reason I say that. The reason I say that is because you know, I believe and a lot of people that I talked to believe the Pac twelve football Last year is better than the Big twelve football this year, and a lot of people also feel that that U of A football should be as good or better than they were last year. So if they're if they're if they're not in the playoffs and they're eight and four,

I think most people believe it's the failure. That's kind of that's I don't know if they think it a failure, but I think there'd be a lot of there'd be some disappointment in there. Are you also factoring the fact that UA fans are kind of uppity or think more of the normal, Well, no, I don't think I don't think I would be. I don't think that's specific to you of a fans. I think that's specific just to all

sports fans in general, because that's I've seen that. You know, multiple places that have lived in this country have the sports fans are the same everywhere. It's not a fan well anything, but they are that way. Though. Yeah, any fan is going to think that they should be better the next year when they've got white, Arizona's got coming back. I agree with

that. I think people are hoping for more. Yeah, people are hoping and I think that they let's say they do go in for I think individuals fans are going to feel that that's partly the coaches to have is party to blame for that. Yeah, of course I agree with it too. It's funny though, if they go eating for you can kiss the playoffs could buy.

Yeah. No, they're not in the playoff going for there, not in the playoffs, and I think the you have a fans that I talked to think that they're a playoff team this year, especially if they extended the number of teams. And if they don't get there, okay, yeah, I wouldn't say it's a failure. I think you're right, J. But it is will be a disappointment. There will be some disappointment, Yes,

there were. There will definitely be some disappointment because look, let's remember the team that went ten and two and beat Miami in the festival, right,

very high expectations. From the next year, they actually went eight and four, but they went ain't three in the regular season, lost a bowl game, and that is to me, that season is seen as a disappointment because you were expecting so much more and they lost a couple of games that you thought they shouldn't have lost, and so you know, I think that's an example of that. I'll go one further, ja, I think that season

is seen by many people as a failure. Yeah, it absolutely was, especially when they lost that bowl game to crappy Utah, right right, and especially after the ten and two season and what they did to Miami in the full. I think there's a lot of people here in this town thought that that season was a failure for you of a football Yeah. I agree. And I think if if they had a similar let's say they go eight in four regular season and then lose a bowl game and they're eight and five,

that's definitely will be seen as a disappointment. Oh yeah, big times. Yeah, all right, thank you. Rich all right, just want to call you guys and and give you my opinion. Take the thirty points, thirty and a half. Actually go Lobo and a half, thirty and a half. You never know, haven't you coach you haven't you coached bronco menton, uh, Bron, you might surprise you. Yeah, You're go into four corners offense and keep the points. Bread Richard, typical Lobo, typical

Lobo. We have a chance. Hey, thanks, abut I appreciate it. Thank you. I do sound a little negative. You do you do? You do? That's realistic. I wouldn't touch that thirty points. Maybe I would. There was a lot for a first game. Arizona's going to be good, though. That's a lot for a first this game. But again, you know they're also gonna want to come out, you know,

flaying in it and having something creating some excitement that. I mean, they're not going to show a lot of what they do, but you'd like to think that they didn't really want to come out and put on a show in that first home game. Uh, Henry, you said more than eight, right? You said eight and nine? Did you say? Yeah? I think i'd say nine right now? You know, I'm kind of leaning there.

I'm going there now, I'm there. Yeah, Victim Vic didn't sell me, but he kind of, you know, kind of like pushed me. Yeah. Yeah, you know what, I think they can be. TCU wasn't that good last year, and every year is different. But yeah, but the don't think the only thing that makes me hesitate on TCU is that two years ago there in the National Championship. Okay, so what's going what's going on over there? No? No, in fact, that's a good, good point. So if they go eating for you kind of oh,

not a bad, not a not a disappointment. Ninety three, but they would have to win their bowl game, right, ninety three is a good season. No Arizona fan, No Arizona fan should be poop in a nine win season. Ever. Ever, Yeah no, because because of who they are, because of who Arizona is, and Arizona has been historically put into content. You you go back to back seasons with ten wins and nine wins, and if you're pissed off about something, then get the hell out

of here. Not even I would be grumpy about that. Yeah, exactly exactly, you know, going into a new league with a new coach and all of that. If they go, if they go nine and three, I'd say they win another bowl game and go ten and three. You win twenty games in two seasons. And if that's some if somewhere in there you're disappointed with that, then you got it. You got issue. You go check your own life because you got issue. I thought I heard somebody tell

me that that there's a line out there somewhere of Jeff Kings. Otherwise whatever that Washington there is what's the it's yeah, it's it's it's a matchup. I can look it up real quick. It's a matchup of Washington against Arizona and wins. And I think it's air Zon a minus one and a half or that they would have more than Washington. Well, isn't that like a given? Don't you think Washington's lost like their whole ross? Yeah? So

what would make that a bet? That wouldn't be easy to win? Unless the spread is like, yeah, okay, it's Oh, here's what it is. It's it's it's Arizona's minus two forty five. Okay, to have more wins than Washing. That's that's a that's not a bad bet. I would yeah, but it's two forty five forty five. You have to put two hundred and forty twenty four dollars to win ten dollars, right, Uh, that could be easy ten dollars. They're not. Washington is not gonna

win eight games. No, Washington's gonna maybe win six. There you go, you want ten dollars, you have to put twenty four up. Steve, I already made a bet to no. No, no, no, no, But I'm just s I hear you I'm just saying, yeah, it's one of your money line things. You get twenty four of these bet or go, bet go bet forty nine bucks to win twenty twenty. It's it's it's to me, it's isn't that a winning game? Win win win? Yeah? You think schedule, yeah, Washington's yes. How are they

gonna win six games? I don't know. Yeah, I want to. Okay, we gottah, we gotta go. Okay, tomorrow, we have a We have guests tomorrow, so we should be good. All right, So all right, be sure to come back tomorrow. We'll have some great guests for you. And again it's a short week, so we're off Thursday and Friday, so get your fill of us the next two days. See you tomorrow.
