welcome to Big twelve officially. Did you get your T shirt yet? No? No, not yet. I you know, we surely got to be out there. I think I think for my service to the PAC twelve over all these years, I deserve some Big twelve gear, just because what do you mean, just all those years that I worked with the Pac twelve tournament. I feel like, since it's moving on, that the Big twelve should send me a golf shop. That doesn't work that way. I know

it doesn't work that way. It doesn't think it should, but it doesn't. The Big You can get as much Pack twelve stuff as you want, right, well, you have got. I got more than I'm gonna use for the rest of my life and we can put on bby put that. Yeah, Big twelve. It's gonna say, hey, mister Gonzalz, that was your past. Your past is your past. You'd have to get over

it. Did you see that video that the uh what some random website that that does SEC you know football like like you know, like some of the ones they put out of the video, it's like a four minute video what you know, and welcome the you know, welcoming Oklahoma and Texas to the Big twelve. It's like a cafeteria scene, so all the all the all

the SEC teams are in are in the cafeteria sitting together. Yeah, and then like the at the very beginning of it, the an Oklahoma guy sits next, he's gonna sit between sitting next to an Alabama guy, and the Alabama guy pushes them away, you know, and then it's it's a pretty it's a pretty funny. You'll find it on social media. You'll have to you'll have to watch it. It's a it's like a four minute video. It's pretty cool. Well, it's it's the King and Clark. It's the

King and Clark. Truman yeah, you and new Kid. You ain't gonna be part of them. That's how it starts out. And yeah, it starts out with you know, some of them being pissed off that they're there, and then it's all kumbaya at the end. It's pretty funny. It didn't mean to be a spoiler, but he knew it would end that way. And then the U of A put out a video. Uh today, I didn't say I saw it, but I didn't see it. it's all about football. But it goes back to you know, uh, you know, getting into the Pac ten and and it just highlights from all the way back and you know, maybe maybe go back and think about, you know, even the early days of you know, when Arizona was in the Pack ten. How long ago it's been and how much has happened and

you'll have to watch it during the break or something. Okay, it was very cool, cool, cool stuff today. But yeah, today's to day, big change, big change. We'll see what happens, because it happens. Were you surprised because the in nine days the Pac twelve was gonna have the Big Big twelve was gonna have media day, and it's gonna be in Vegas? Right? Are you surprised that it's in Vegas and it's in Vegas? I absolutely, I'm surprised that it wouldn't be in Kansas City. So

why why are you surprised because I want to go to Vegas? Because because they all all the media members want to go to Vegas. Yeah, sure, no, no, But it's it's surprising because everyone when they went to the Big twelve're thinking, oh, maybe we're gonna have the tournament, the bestball tournament right in Vegas. That's not gonna happen. I don't think so, right, not not initially, you know they I think then they signed to be in the in Kansas City to like twenty thirty or something like that,

too year, something like that. Yeah, but I could see them eventually kind of. That's why I'm surprised about this. Look. I could see where they where They would say, you know what, Vegas would be great, But we're not going to give them that yet, right, We're not gonna you know, their new kids on the block. Sure, we're not. We're not giving them, you know, the the good candy. They got to take the bad for a while, right, No, No,

I made all the sense in the one they said not yet. You know PAC twelve if they, if it was reversed, PAC twelve wouldn't say we're going to Kansas City, right, you know exactly? Yeah, or doubts it would be that that meme of the new kids coming to town. Well, sorry, you have to take the seat in the back. Yeah, get to you know, earn your chops, right exactly exactly. So we'll see. It should be a lot of fun as moving forward, because

we have a month before let's not a month right for football. It starts, wasn't It started late August the last last Saturday in August on his camp start. Yeah, yeah, late July probably, yeah, okay, and then it then it goes you know, hot, hot, hot, until it's not in September, early early late August is the first game. Yeah, so we'll see what happened. But yeah, this is where it all flips over the you know, the page is turned. Arizona's in the Big

twelve. Now Oklahoma and and and uh Texas are in the SEC. Callan Stafford in the ACC, and those other schools are in the in the Big ten. It's it's all different today. Yeah, yeah, so much has changed, I mean the whole I'm sure your life has changed a number of times. Given you used to be a sports writer and then you went to the PR area and then you continue to do other things, and here you are doing other things. I got here in eighty seven, you know,

this young sports writer. Think can I be here for three years and then leave? Right? And then I fell in love with the place, so I stayed. And it was the early and still ten years into the PAC ten packed ten right print ten and uh, so much has changed. I

mean people are getting paid now more than they deserve. Probably yeah, yeah, no, you know again going back, I mean, you know I was, Uh, I was just out of high school when when they you know, the first year in the seventy eight and seventy eight, Uh, I actually have a sophomore in uh uh yeah, it's a sophomore in high school college when you know the first year the back then and you know that very first year, you know, we went we took a road trip and

went to see Arizona play UCLA football, you know, and that was just the coolest thing. Right We're playing u C. L A. And not only we're not just playing them, you know from out of the wat we're you know, we're in their league. And it was just coole as hell. So I don't I don't think Maybe I don't know, Henry, because you're young and you're having experienced this, because I think we're old. That's not gonna happen in basket. It's not gonna happen in football for us.

Oh they're playing, Yeah, they're playing you know who are they gonna play? Yeah? That gives you the jew since is now but in basketball it is, yeah, in in football and back in any sport. Are you how are you looking at this change? Because when we're young. We're kind of like, okay, cool, cool cool? Is it gonna be okay, cool cool for you. I'm definitely gonna miss the certain Pac twelve matchups like U C, l A and that, But like in basket, I

think I'm more excited for the basketball matchups than the football. Just like Kansas, Baylor, Iowa State, all these teams are really good at basketball and football. I mean they're all right. So yeah, so they're gonna cheat you out of a Kansas meeting? Are you? Is this your final year? Yeah? Okay, so you missed that. But you know what, we didn't talk about this Jay when we had uh share share Oh yeah,

can you speak? Yeah, and you would ask him, I don't think we've talked about this, and we asked him, okay here, we're a bit surprised that this is not happening, and he says, not over here, no big deal to us. Yeah, we had we play a lot of good games. Arizona's just another one, right see. And that's what we before we had him on, we predicted that that was probably gonna be the reactions, Like, guys, we have games like this all the time.

It's you know, it's no big deal to us. And I tried to explain to him and said, this is a big deal to us because we don't have big games like this all the time. You know, we we treasured get bringing in U Kansas or over the past years of Michigan or you know, Alabama or or Duke but whoever. Doesn't that tell you the difference between the two programs between the two conferences for sure? You know. Now again you know Kansas had to deal with Oklahoma and Texas all those times.

But they they, like you know, like Arizona, get their asses kicked by them all the time. So you know, maybe they're happy they're gone, right, So I don't know, it's yeah, it's different because again to me, you know, at that time going into the Pac ten, I you know, I know Washington was pretty good, but but they weren't what they had became, you know in the late eighties and early nineties. So the whole thing was about getting to play USC and Ucla in football

and gating to play Ucla and basketball. That was that that was the where the excitement was about going into the Pac ten. Yeah, I'm sure that you uh would agree with me that that once they saw that Oklahoma and Texas were leaving. There was a side of relief and like like there was one that was going into them thinking we have a better chance of winning there that they have said the same thing, we have a better chance of winning it

now right right and there I guarantee you. I mean, well, you know, they think, you know, having those four schools that you know, helps the league and stuff like that. They're not afraid of any of any of the four schools in any of the sports, right even Arizona coming in basketball? Yeah? Maybe, Uh, who's who's not very good in basketball in the Big twelve? Oh god, I don't know West Virginia right

now. No, they're pretty good West Virginia now, they're all decent, right yeah, So again, none of them are going to be afraid of her. They're saying, bring it, come on over, you know, and and and the same thing. In football, None of that. None of the schools they're saying own out here comes Arizona, ACU, Colorado, and Utah. None of them are saying that. No. I think that Utah right now as they see it coming in that they're thinking Utah might be

tough. Utah is gonna be tough. But we can you know, we can take it. They're they're the Pac twelve. We can take no, and for that reason through the soft Pac twelve. But they're not the soft pack twelve. Utah. Utah is the mean kid on the block and has been for a while. Even Washington stopped being the you know what we saw in the early nineties with guys like Steve im and then some of those players.

Even Washington, you know, yes, they got to the National Championship game, but not because they were some monster defensive team that beat the living crap out of you week in and week out. They were just good. Yeah. Right, uh And and so you know, there's not anybody that they're that that any of the Big twelve schools are gonna fear coming into the league. It's more schools and it's gonna make the conference probably more interesting.

But I just don't think that they the Big twelve is shaking in its boots over anybody that's coming over. No, it's gonna and it's gonna be a nice balance, right except for you don't get to see Kansas twice in basketball. Yeah eventually. Well, and the thing is that people gotta remember, Okay, we're in their league. Now we're gonna see them at least once every year, sometimes twice. So okay, it does it suck that we don't get them twice in the first season, you know, but there's still

some good games coming to town. So oh yeah, you know, I mean, I mean, it's gonna be fun going into the arena every every conference game. It is. I mean, there isn't a team that you go, we can kick your ass, right right, you know, every game is going to be like, okay, you know we got to be you know, you know, you take a game off, you're gonna lose. And there were times in the in the Big twelve, in the Pac twelve that you could take a game off and still beat somebody by twenty right,

right, So we'll see. I mean, you probably have a major bet for eight eight or better, right. I haven't decided if I'm going to Steve. Uh, it's gonna be tough. I think here, here's here's why. Here's why. Because of the half, there's no hook on it. I think if it was it was eight and a half, I might take the under, and if it was seven and a half, I definitely take the it's sitting on eight. You know, you gotta get nine to win. I don't know that I want to do that. It includes

the bowl game, right, no regular season, regular season wins. Yeah, it won't be a bet. It shouldn't be a bet. Yeah, because it was at seven and a half. I want yeah, and I'm and I'm I saw it at seven and a half one day during the show, and I'm mad at myself for not taking it. I should have taken it right then and there, but I didn't. But so I'm gonna it's just not a just not a good number. I don't I don't feel good

enough. Yeah, well, mostly because to win to win the Kansas State will be the game that we have to watch to see if we can get there, right the one there, they're underdogs by seven and a half point. I'm putting that. I'm putting that as a loss. Okay, if we were to go through the schedule right now, I'm marking that game as a loss because it's only the third game, you know, with the new

it's on the road, with the new coaching staff. You know, if they win, great, you know, then expectations go through the roof. If they lose, well, okay, they lost, but I'm not I'm not marking that. I'm marking that down today as probably a loss one because I don't want to get to that game and if they lose, be really

pissed off about it. Now, if they lose it like they lost in Mississippi State last year with fafe To throwing four interceptions and in his first four passes or something like that, then I'm gonna be Then I'm gonna be pissed. But you know, if they go in play a good game and get beat I want what's to be upset about there. They're a good team and you're at their place. Okay, So this first segment is almost over, just real quick. We're not gonna have it for a guest in the first

to Washington, they lost to USC and they lost to Mississippi State. In the end, Mississippi State was the game they should have won, but it was on the road. You know, you're not gonna mark that down as a win. So they the ten games they won, they either were supposed

to win or weren't supposed to win and won them anyways. And you know, Washington State, Oregon State, UH and uh and uh Utah come to mind, although Utah came in without their quarterback and stuff, so right, and that was their given because you you didn't believe it either until yeah, it was until that. Yeah, it took. It took to that game for me to believe that Arizona was actually pretty good, which was late late

in the year. Again that the Arizona fan in me saying, we can't possibly be this good, right but the but they were ten and three beat Oklahoma, So I don't. I don't unless unless they moved that line to soe and a half. I wun't looking at this now because you have to struggle to get even you have to truggle just to get to the eight. See that's what that That's what I'm saying because I feel like, yeah, but if you get to the eight, you don't lose, Okay, Okay,

You know, remember on Solomon after Stretchman year, we thought, we thought that guy, right, we thought that guy is going to be here and he's gonna be the greatest quarterback ever. And then he would you know, he got injured and got his head kicked in and you know, and

then he was gone. Khalil Tate was a flash, like you know, I mean, just a complete flash for four games, four or five games. I'm reminded that that year after all, you know, the Colorado and Washington State and that stretch of four games they lost fash that year. I remember, yeah, right, So he's he's been he's gonna be up there, top three, top four. I haven't been long enough yet. He's gonna really put it together. He could he could become, could become he's

on he's on a path to become. And again eight games, nine games, the best quarterback Arizona's ever had. But you have to temper that with the fact that the best quarterback Arizona has ever had never won a championship, right. So yeah, so you know you have to temper the thinking on that. So you know, there's and as in there's just not a lot

of competition there. So if he if he goes off and they have another ten or eleven wins season, twelve wins with a bowl game or whatever, you know, now you get to talking and then he's got one more year after that, and then you see where he winds up today. That is the top five quarterback certainly had one of the top five seasons in Arizona history. And that was nine games. That was three games in right, four

games in right. So, uh, you know I think that, well we're rains to be seen, Vic, but I like, you know, I like your thinking on that and just his and his off the field, Yeah all that, No, that's part of it. But uh, you know, well I think one problem to people looking at okay, we can get in, that we can get in that top twelve, Well, people are gonna have to realize too that

the SEC picked up two pre quality teams. Yeah that you know, don't be surprised that the SEC and the Big ten get eight of those twelve spots. Well I won't be surprised at all. In fact, I think that's the expectation that that that they'll get eight. You know, the Big twelve will get two, the A C C will get to Well, then who's the big team yeah, and the a CC will get to oh no,

five has to go win seven. They're gonna get seven. They're gonna get seven, right, they're gonna get seven of them, all right, and you're gonna have to look at Notre Dame one of those teams if they're good, that they're gonna get one of those twelve spots, right right. No,

And part of it will depend on how good, you know, the rest of the league is, and if the if the champion and the second place team, you know, the second place team is the second place team is nine and three, and then you know they go in and lose the you know, lose the conference championship

and their nine and four, you're not getting in. You know, the second place team has to have you know, ten wins, eleven wins or whatever, or the loser of the conference championship game has to have ten or eleven wins to have a realistic shot of getting in the playoffs, right, you know, I think they can get there, but it's you know, it's just so many unknowns. We don't know anything about these teams. Yeah, No, and that's it, And I think that's I kind of think

that's what's gonna be fun about it. It's like, Okay, we think we can win this game, but let's see what happens. But I'm still going to miss the pack. Yeah, of course we are. Of course we are. Yeah, it was it was always fun. Today. Yeah, bad day today it is. It's a it's a tough day, but it's a tough day. When I was when I was scrolling through my uh really, my my TV and uh I just stopped at the PAC twelve channel to see what was up, and there was a thing that says we are

Joy or Aaron Judge, Well, well again, it's it's become you know, somebody made a comment or I saw I saw a tweet and it was by George Brett, and somebody sent it to me who said that, you know, when you know, when I was hitting, and when I teach people to hit, I teach them to swing level across home late because your bat is in the zone longer and you have a better chance of hitting the ball.

And then somebody coming to me and says, well, that's how you hit singles, and I'm like, okay. They said, well that's not that's not how they're playing anymore. And and then and that's true because when you were when you play ball, when you were a kid, how many times did your coach tell you don't uppercut? Don't uppercut? Right, And that's how everybody swings it today, right, That's how everbody swings for launch angle and all that stuff. That's how they swing, and that's why they're striking

out. And that's why they're not, you know, the batting averages are lower and stuff like that, because they're not out there trying to hit singles. Were grounding out right, they're not. They're not going through or you'd hit down on the ball and a little bit down on the ball, you're not gonna pop it up. You might ground out. Yeah, but you know, George Burrow was one of the greatest hitters ever. He said something like I've got thirty four thirty four hundred hits to tell you. I'm right.

Yeah, same thing. Yeah, I don't know. Everybody's trying to change this game. It used to be a pretty good game. It was fun. It's fun. But again, you know, these guys like Henry over here just no matter who your team is. Yeah, these guys like Henry over here just loved the long ball. And that's all you get. Man, you got it. A lot of people are applotting that it's a quick game now, right right, you pay fifty dollars to the game. I'm not too sure that quick game is cool because you want to you're spending fifty bucks. You kind of enjoy the game too. At sixty five years old, I like the faster game.

When I was twenty five and going to a Dodger game and it ended in two hours, I'd be upset. Yeah, right, So if you know, if you're you know, look, I'm gonna miss if it goes if it goes three hours, I'm gonna miss more of the game because I'm gonna go to the bathroom more. Okay, sixty five, right, sixty five? Right, Well, I keep saying I'm sixty five, not sixty five. I'm sixty four. But you know, I like the quicker game.

I like the two and a half hour game. Now, I like the two and a half hour game when I'm at home because it doesn't take up the whole night. Those three plus hour games, man, those are hard. Those were hard to sit through. I'd come and go from a game that was on TV, you know, a bunch because you know, you just can't sit there and watch it. I mean, we put on that, we put on that that that game on Sunday, and when eleven Indians

it still wasn't three hours. So you we're talking about Yeah, football three hours, three change great for me. I'm sure the restroom is busy. The restroom is busy, you know. And you know, I like the I like the shorter game and just just the not so much sitting around, you know, watching the guy pull his gloves on and off, you know,

between every pitch. Remember it was no mar Garcia par I remember that guy, yeah, you know, and then it was just then there was the guy they used to call the human rain delay, Mike Hargrove, Remember him with the Indians. They used to call him the human rain delay. Uh, you know that that was not fun to watch. So no, I like, I like where we are with all of that, with all of that stuff, and I don't like in the end in an NBA game it takes a half an hour to play the last three minutes of a game.

Well it's still two hours. It's a little overchanged ten two hours and ten minutes, he think, so, yes, yeah, most of the time really to fifteen ye because of the TV. Yeah, you have to be it's like this weekend. Are you don't talking about Kayt and Clark this week? You think, okay, I'll leave it alone. Oh we're talking about because we gotta get it. Well, we're gonna do a shortened version actually of a breaking news. We've got to get out of here. We've

got to get Fred Harvey right at four fifteen. Yeah, all right, But anyways, I you know, I'm okay with it, but I could see somebody like you know, who can sit there comfortably for three hours, say that sucked that this game went two hours and fifteen minutes. Yeah, especially I used to think that. Yeah, well, I mean, really, I to spend good money and you want to spend some time with I mean, I went to I went to LA and one of the highlights is

going to a Dodger game. And I go to this game and it was the Dodgers and the Cardinals and it went one fifty five. It was you know, it was like a three to one game when one fifty five, and I was pissed. How old were you in my twenties that sense? Yeah, yeah, I was upset with that. Then you have to do two hours trying to get out of the state. Well well yeah, I mean that was all a part of it, right, You know, when

you go Dodger Stadium, you just know that's a part of it. We should just put a nice chest of refreshments in the trunk of the car and hang out in the parking lot till a clear not to go, and then you drove home. What kind of refreshments were there? Just so? Does it? Maybe a beer too? Okay? We were responsible, we were responsible adults not okay, the driver was response okay, but it makes it's always you don't have to tell me. You can say, yeah, I

agree with guys. Let's do it. I mean we did. Would would would take a nice chest of beer, would as uh. We'd always park over against the rail, against the railing that overlooks the city great view, would back it in and would just sit there on on the on the guardrail and and you know, listen to the post game show and have fun. Well, everybody cleared out, and then about probably an hour later, we'd

jump in the car and leave. Okay with that note, we'll take our break, go to Henry on the other side for a few minutes, and then get a hold of Fred Harvey. All right, sounds great.
