This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzales on Fox Sports fourteen fifty powered by Nova Insurance Services and Sure Your Most Prized Possessions katz R Tucsa at iHeartRadio Statia. Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to Spring Night, Spring Day in Tucson. We'll come tying the ball. I'm Steve Rivera, you're Jaginsaus. Got a guy Kevin in the house today for Monday. How about them cats? How about them cat? Uh? Surprised? Not at

least at all, Not at all. Kevin, you were out of the room Friday for you were you were doing your man business, out of time or two. And when you were out your man business, I assume it's some man business. I don't know, Pete whatever. So Kevin and I talked, right, we talked to what do we think it was like? A We talked it was a locker to me, it was a locker. You felt I us. I felt like it was gonna be a no brainer that Arizona was certainly going to win and cover against the Ducks, right,

and then we talked about it on the show. Thankfully, you did not touch it. I did not touch it. That's why I said I deserve a percentage of what you want, because I want I was going Cats in the over and both of those hit you were you would not be going for the Cats had we not told you that. Yeah, you know, I I was okay, all right, all right, I'll admit I didn't take

it because I just wasn't didn't feel all that great about it. For the same reason that I felt that the Ravens were gonna win is that I thought, you know, at some point, Tommy Lloyd is going to lose two games in a row, and if there's a place for it to happen, this is it. Because they're not playing well. They got beat by a last place team on Thursday night yesterday. I think that they would come out

a little more fired up and play with a little more determination. But I still still thought they're at Oregon. They haven't won there since like I was born, and you know, I just didn't think Jay, you grew up watching this program, so I don't know much about much about before eighty seventh and when I started covering the team in ninety one. The one thing I learned from this program loot probably Sean I didn't follow Shawan as close to this

probably should have. If Arizona is challenged, right, they show up. If they're not challenged, they don't. That's it. Yeah, that's it. First round losses, first round losses, exactly. That that's your title, that's your tombstone title in the first round losses. So to back that up, Steve our friend Brian Peterson, who's gonna be on the show later

today. I don't know if you guys saw this, but he tweeted on the twenty seventh, he tweeted that Arizona might just need big crowds, and then he tweeted the stat the Wildcats are fourteen and won this season in games where the attendance is nine thousand or more. That includes wins at Duke, Oregon and neutral side victories in Phoenix and Palm Springs. They're one and four when there are fewer than seventy five hundred fans and zero to three when the

announced attendance is blow five thousand. Yeah. Well that's he could put that up for the last twenty five thirty years. Yeah, because that's just how it is. Morning games, first round games Miami, Ohio had two thousand people. Yeah, the loose yeah, I can remember the games if they're not motivated to play. Hell, they won the ninety seven title game in that first round because they almost lost that first round, right, It was

just they think they can just show up. Yeah, well, I My problem, Steve, is that my mentality as it relates to football spills over into basketball and no, no, no, you know, and just like I you know, after Arizona got beat by a USC in a tough game that they should have won, I thought, I didn't think very much of their chances going into Washington State, and they came back and beat the living

hell out of those guys and the rest was history. Same thing. I just you know, it's just like when you're you're when you're beating down Arizona fan like I am, you just think they're not going to be able to get it together in time to beat Oregon. Yeah. Yeah, no, no, it's uh, that's just the way it is. I get it,

because you you have you're just a wounded dog in the corner. No, I mean, you've been kicked in the side so many times that you know, with all due respect to dogs, but that's just the analogy. That's because that's what happens. You can go through years and years of this analysis, like like Brian did, and we're gonna have him on the show here in about ten minutes. Give Arizona a reason to win, and then they win. They will give them no reasons just to show up and they

don't well again. After what was arguably the worst loss in the history of Arizona basketball when they got beat by Santa Clara in ninety two, they go to the final four the next year. Yeah you know, yeah, he changes it up, yeah, gives him some some encouragement. It was ninety three. It was ninety three, yeah, three, And then he came

back and they go to the final four. Right. And then on the other hand, they win the national championship, get everybody back, no no, and poop on their leg in the in the because it was Utah. They had already played them, they beat him before. I had a history of beating them easily, and they just beat the crap out of them. I mean, Jay, if you're going to write a thesis or for your graduate degree, this is it. And why And we get ahold of the

psychology girl from from you a get her quotes. We're done. No, yeah, no, seriously. I mean, it's it's weird. It's weird, but I will say that, you know, I only got to see the very beginning because I had no I didn't even see the very beginning. I had to I was having my I was having my daughter move I got. I got the last half of the second half. So I was listening to Brian Jeffers on the radio, and when Arizona got out to the you know, the quick lead, I thought, yeah, they're going to win

this game, and they and they were never headed. So so let me ask you this, okay, Soley, So they went on Saturday very impressively. Do you think they'll ever lose again in the Pac twelve? And I say this for a reason because because everybody and everybody everything's right in the world. Right, Yeah, they win a game and everything's you know, the

sun sunny year, it's eighty two degrees here and everybody's happy. But but using the thesis from the attendance and stuff, they're gonna have a clunker here in here or two again. I see I see them splitting the l a trip, right, yeah, one of those teams is gonna be them.

You see the plays, you say they're playing very well. Again, I see them, I see and then and they'll probably they could lose too at Colorado and right right right, because you know those and those games though, are gonna be packed, they're gonna be ready blah blah blah blah, and there was if they don't know that they need to show up, that's on

them. Yeah, and maybe again, you know, if if, if, if, the they you know, they'll be good, good crowds for those two games or the Utah Colorado game that comes after I got cal Stafford at home this week. Then they go to Utah and Colorado, you know, they'll have good crowds. They'll they'll be geared up. Maybe they play really well. Yeah, you know yea. So let me ask you, so both you guys will portion the game, what would pressure you the most?

Caleb's thirty six where he was fantastic or more importantly or was it more important that Calen bobs will played well? It was more important for calin bos Wow to play well? I agree. You know he he had a smile on his face in the second hand. You hadn't seen it in a one. I hadn't seen it in a long time. He had he had a smile on his face. He felt good on the court, He's doing something.

Yeah, you felt like the court was not a foreign place for him again, that it was like he belonged there and was playing the type of basketball that we saw him play early in the year. But more importantly, just if he looked like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders and if he can keep that together. Look, I think it's perfect for them to come home and play two games at home. Now, if they had to go on the road again, I'd say it could be hard. But you

know, to come home, they got callum Stanford. They're gonna want to use to Stanford very much. So on Sunday, Yeah, you know there's a double header on Sunday, the women and the men right right on that day, Like what times that women aren't noon and the men are at six? Okay, oh really it's a long stretch. Yeah, so it's you know, they finish at two thirty, clean up the arena and then getting

ready to get Yeah. But anyways, I think I think this this home stand, or it's two games, that sets up well for them to continue to gather themselves and get ready to go for what's going to be a really, really tough road trip to the Mountain Schools. Yeah, and I think it's important that Kylon had a Boswell had a better game just because we know that Caleb, we know that Caleb Love can do that. He was well. It was a career high, right, it was a special night.

We know he can be the top end scorer for this team. But we needed to see Boswell have a more stable performance amidst all the unstable ones that we've been seeing from here's the thing for me for for Love, he took only eighteen, only eighteen shots for thirty six points, right, which usually he's he's on fire, he throws up a bunch of throwing up everything. Yeah, and for you know, twenty points, you know, eighteen for twenty point whatever it is. But he was fantastic, very efficient. I

played well. It's funny how he talks to the interview. Oh, you want to thanks my teammates for setting me up. No, you just took the shots of you know, the shots were there, and you know, I mean he played thirty nine minutes, We played the whole game. But he was twelve of eighteen from the field, five to eight from three. But you look at Colin Boswell's lying. You know, five of twelve a little under fifty percent, but two of five from three, yeah, but

three assists, two steals, only one turnover. He played a complete game. And and to me that that's what you have to do. Uh you know uh uh you know, Umar Ballow you know had uh you know nine he had a game and some points, nine rebounds, really had a double double with some foul trouble. Yeah, right, both he and Crevias had some foul trouble. So you know, it was it was a game that they needed to have. They shot nearly fifty percent from the field, but

made ten three pointers and so you know, on the road. As as Tommy said, it looked like their best game. Yeah, you know, yeah, most complete game of the season. Right, And it's a good time. It's funny because I was listening to Field of sixty eight or whatever last week and he was talking about they were talking about and it's a silly podcast to me. You know, it's they have the struggle here and it's it's now the time to peak. You don't know when you're peaking. Every

game. Every game is different. You can have a peak in November if you don't play well. Ever, Zona peak in ninety seven. No, they played well for six straight games. They were peaking in ninety eight. Well again, the ninety seven team lost its last two regular games. They got swept on the road, so they had but then it went the crowd. Yeah to my point, Yeah, but you get it. It's a lot of times you don't know if you're peak exactly exactly you want to peak,

yeah, but you don't know if you are. To get on the field and you play a stretch of games in a row, they said, Okay, this one's better than the last one, and better than the last one, better than the last And for the most part, it's it's something that we look at after after the fact and say, oh, that's when that peaks. And they peaked at the right time instead of this team didn't seem to be a practice and be like, guys, we're really peaking this

week. Hey, but let's pump the brakes, don't they don't the opponents have something to say about that and how well they play the peak? We thought the Ravens were peaking, No exactly, oh year, No, no, ers are going back. Let's talk about the casey for the middle of the season was what the hell's wrong with What's the hell wrong with Case?

There have always been Case. Now they're showing showing who they know, who they are, and I'm so pissed at myself for going I went against the Green I mean, I said on the show, I said, you know, uh uh uh Patrick Mahomes has entered that territory where you say, don't bet against him. You know, you know, beware of betting against uh uh Patrick Mahomes because he's just gonna step up when he needs to step up. And he and he has and he did again. So what he does

everybody else does too, right, Well, that's it. He brings people with him. Well it sounds like the guy. Yeah, and that's why he's so mad. Earlier in the year when his receivers weren't elevating with me, he was like, guys, I'm doing my best. Didn't Tommy, didn't Tom Brady? Uh, Mike a living doing that exactly, guys. Get on his guys to get them to play harder. Hey Manning and Jeff Saturday Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, all those guys. So so get up, get up, guys. I need you guys here. I

can't carry this program. So I have to decide if blood is thicker than water and whether or not I go against my kids have a funny story. I have a funny story in forty nine ers. So my my son Adam, and he just did you know what a forty nine I got? Joe mont Dana Jersey in here dead, said forty niners. He did not want to come over and watch a game, he said, No, said, I've been to the last two Super Bowls at your house and they've lost.

I'm not coming, And Adam, it's it's it's our Sunday family dinner. You have to go. All right, I'll come, but if they start losing, I'm leaving. And so he comes, and maybe we made hamburgers. In the first half, he said, he choked down his and he ate and he left. At halftime. He left his wife and kid at our house and he went home to watch the game, and and they came back and won. He'll never see your kid again, yeah, I said, so. So I even bother asking if you're coming over for the Super

Bowl that I don't know who you are. He let, I mean, he high tailed it out of the house, and like I said, he left his family behind. Well, they came back and need a nice little comeback. Thankfully, the Detroit kind of collapsed in front of him, which feels worse today being a Ravens fan or being a Lions fan. I think the Lions. I heard a good point I was. I would have said Lions too. I heard a good point though that the Ravens have been here

more recently than the Lions. Lions fans in a week or two, they're gonna be like, I'm just happy we had the season that we had. They're always going to have this season right, no matter what happens going forward. But the Ravens fans, I feel like they at least have passed success to be like to look back on the glory days of whatever twelve years ago, Well, what about the sugar sensus now and how good they've been the last several years and can't get over the top. That's fair. I do

think that's fair. But for the Lions, they were this close. They they they didn't give it away. I mean, the Niners took it from him, but damn they they they did their part to give up. He is he is okay, all right? Brian Peterson coming I we're gonna talk somewhere you have a basketball uh and the weekend that they had just a weird weekend, and then some of the women, the women still it's been It's been an interesting weekend. We have Brian Peterson from Arizona as desert storm or desert storm or swarm? Where how are you from? I'm looking

at rough glasses with snow glasses on that. He does a good job on that site. We're talking about men's basketball obviously, and some maybe some football, some women's basketball because you have that covered as well. But I don't think that you're shocked at you have a beat Oregon this weekend, are you? Uh No? I mean it's so weird. This team seems to always

play its best or under Tommy right after a lost. And it's been that way this year, it was the way last year, it was that way the year before, and also it's like the big games, it just seems like that they play up for more than maybe the lower ones. And I found the weirdest stat before the game on Saturday, and it's still played out if there's more than nine thousand people in the crowd. Arizona has won all but one game this year. The only one they didn't win was the Curdue

game, which was just a great game and a better opponent. But the four there, I think one in four when there's less than like seventy five hundred people and if there's less than five thousand, they just don't win. And maybe there's that whole you know, they say you got to bring your own energy on the road. Maybe this team doesn't bring its own energy that it needs a good hostile crowd, whether it's in their favor or against them, to get them hiped up. Yeah, I mean it it makes sense

because you know, I mean, they're used to the crowds here. It's always loud, it's always crazy, and they you know, and they love playing. They get used to that, and you almost feel like they've got to feel a little out of sorts if it's not like that. Yeah, I mean, that's that's just an number, and it should it shouldn't matter.

It also means that I think the rest of their road games this year, Colorado, Utah, Asu and USCU the CLA should have good crowds, so there might not be another example to see what they would do in front of kind of a quiet or small crowd. But the inconsistency is still a concern. I mean, they haven't won consecutive games since starting the season,

or they haven't won more than two in a row. I should say since starting the season eight to no. Now they may have an opportunity here to get at least three in a row before they go back out on the road to Colorado and Utah. At some point I think though that Tommy should have or should be getting their attention because the rest of the way it's important to get those wins. Given the you know, they're still at number two, I think I think there are number two on most most things, so they

have to stay there at least stay there. So every game has to be important. And I said before you came on, Brian and you followed the team for a long time, if they think it's an important game to show up, if it's just one of those games where there we can just show up and beat them by our pure talent. They lose. I've seen that lout. It was probably happening with Sean, with Lute, I know that

happened. But the thing is is that if you don't think every game is important, then these things happen, and they should all be considered appointment important, especially as you get to this point in the season. And last year down the stretch, they started to treat every game like it was important.

The only game they lost, the only game they lost down the stretch before the NCAA Tournament, the ASU game, which was just a wild one, especially with the half court shot, and losing at UCLA, which was going to be a really big game. I mean, that was a great matchup. But then they go and they win all the games in the Pac twelve tournament. But then, yeah, they probably just said, well, Princeton's not who need to worry about Let's concern ourselves with the second opponent and moving

on from there and these other teams. It's always the most important game when you're faking Arizona exactly. Yeah, no, no, no doubt. So I mean, what were you thinking after the Oregon State game? Were you thinking that a blip where you've you know, so many fans were panicking. You know, I'm saying your thinking they're playing their way into a three or four seed, you know, I mean, what were your thoughts after that

game and that loss to the last place team in the league. Just that they are not the same team without that support that they have, that away from home, it's very difficult for them for whatever reason, and that just fundamental things keep breaking down, particularly the leaving guys open on the perimeter.

And Tommy had said afterwards that it is bigs act like they've never seen a big man shoot a three because it's I had found a stat going into the Oregon game, guys in the Pac twelve who were six nine or taller were shooting forty three percent on three pointers. Skin Parasel Well, I was gonna ask you before you Kim on the show. I asked the guys here, what was more impressive to you, Caleb doing his thirty six or impressive maybe

important Caleb doing his thirty six, or killin doing his job. Kylin having that better game, Yes, was much more important, especially because early on you saw multiple instances where it looked like he was second guessing himself. He had that time where he was in the air with a wide open three and at the last moment passes out of it, merely throws it away and then gets it back and drains it. And then there was at least one other

time where he hesitated and gave up on the shot. And so there's definitely something there as far as him being uncertain about himself, but the fact that he was able to put up fourteen and showed a lot more assertiveness, particularly on the defensive end. Actually in both games I think. I mean, he had four fouls against Oregon State and that's the first time in his career he's had four fouls because he was trying to defend and sometimes you need to

do that. If you're not able to contribute in one way, you need to find another way to do it, and he was trying to do it on the defensive end. So, you know, we talk about teams peaking and Arizona certainly you can't say to them about that about them right now, but you know they have to get to that point and you know, to get ready for Marshall, what do you need to see this week to feel like, Okay, you know they're they're they're starting to put some things together.

I mean they need to win by a lot. Do they need to be very impressive or just a couple of wins in any way they can get them. I mean, what do you think, what do you think Tommy Lloyd wants to see this week? Well, the Stamford game provides the first revenge opportunity of this year and last year. They were successful in all those first times facing someone after losing to them. In fact, every time they face an opponent they had lost to previously under Tommy Lloyd, they have won.

And that kind of also feeds into the hole responding to a loss, not just beating Stanford. I think the key in that one is take away the things that Stanford was doing so well. Yes, some of their shots were unconscious, but they also that was the first real instance where we saw that they had so many wide open three point shooters and particularly guys who are

bigger, So showing that they can address that would be helpful. It is funny that the one team in the Pac twelve that didn't shoot well against Arizona that has good shooting big men is Utah and those guys had a lot of open looks but just miss them. So that might just be a flaw of this team. If you remember the Alabama game, that kid Grant Nelson was three or fifteen from three and most of those were wide openly. So it

is a big flaw for this team. But since Stanford was the one that really kind of exposed it in league play to start, I think that's what Tommy's going to want to see, is that, you know, Foolmy wants shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I have to show that I can address that and fix it. Yeah, and they have the comforts of home. I think next week, next week on the road will be the test of where they're at because Colorado and Utah are not going

to be easy places to play. Correct. Correct. I believe both of them are unbeaten at home this year, right, And so I mean that's that's going to be a very tough trip. And you know, I thought, actually losing to Oregon State that this was going to be the first back to back losses under Tommy that it really does stand out as an opportunity. But that's it's a kind of trip where if you lose both of those games, it's not as big a deal. As it would be on some of

these other trips, unless it's about the way they lose. If these are competitive games that they lose, then that's one thing. But if it's games where they clearly were outmatched and outplayed and out coached, then that's more of a concert. What do you make of Lumarballo, I mean, what he

kind of comes and goes well? I think that. I mean, it's very very evident that not having someone like Ishulis Tavellis right next to him shows how limited he is from an offensive player, because if he is the focal point down low, he maybe isn't good enough to be able to beat all these guys and particularly finished through traffic. But when he adds somebody that had to be paid attention to just as well, just as much, if not more, then that was making it so that his opportunities were a lot more

open. I do still think there is a lot of value to the amount of fouls he draws, and that it helps from the accumulative It just when you get into later in games and the free throws are more meaningful, you can't really have him out there because there's no benefit to him being fouled. If he's going to miss the free throws later in the game. But I still think he provides so much value, particularly from rebounding and being in the way on the defensive end. But he also has to show that he can

rotate out for defending guys. One thing I noticed was they were having like guards like Kylan Boswell guarding Nathan Biddle on Oregon rather than just having big on both bigs trying to guard big men because they see that that's position. I was going to go there, we have about four and a half minutes, but I want to talk about women's basketball real quick and a little about football. So what would you say is the best lineup that he puts out there

for women's basketball, men's men's This last question of men's men. You know, I don't see him making a change with the starting lineup. No, I don't think that just he likes Boswell being that initial guy, but that when when he puts Bradley in, Bradley is the guy who's going to be leading the point, not so much like someone like Caleb. I think he

likes having Caleb be the guy who is off the ball. I went back like thirty years and Arizona's never had a team that started the same five guys the entire season, and so far it's been these five, and I think, barring an injury, that that's the way it's going to stay. I think he likes the way that the three bench guys, Crevus and Lewis and

Bradley provide their spark in those minutes. I think it may be more a matter of how much they play, which is why you saw a couple of those games with Bradley starting the second half, but Boswell's still getting more minutes. If anything, they may want to try to cut down on some of Bollo's minutes and more for Crevius. But in this last game, like Crevis could not defend in Polly Dante, so Bobo had to be out there. So in situations like that, they're forced to stick with Bobo. Yeah,

that's what do you talk about the starting lamps. I think two thousand and one Gilbert was probably pissed off Lute and said, no, you're not playing today a couple of a couple of times. In fact, well let's go to women's sport. You know, Adia has at an admirable job. I guess that's my word, at least seven girls and someone else's hurt. Now, she didn't explain Hayle and Gilbert their best player. Yeah, so what gives I mean, she's trying to do guess what you can. Yeah,

and without Gilbert it puts them down to seven. And this last game against Stanford, it was really really evident because all three of their front court players got their third foul in the first half, and you had to have one of them out on the court in order to have five and it was frankly, if it weren't a blowout, they all would have filed out instead only one of them filed out. But the team is severely limited. They just

don't have a lot of options. And it's kind of they could still make the NCAA tournament if they were to pull off a couple of games here and there and maybe pick up a win or two in the Pac twelve tournament. But I was discussing with our women's writer Kim Doss the other day that it would actually be better for them to make one of the NIT type tournaments for women's basketball, because that would probably provide an opportunity to play at home and

to get more experience. Because you know, they've they've got several young players on this team, and it should be about thinking towards the future, I think at this point, because gosh, the remainder of their games this year, they still have games against I want to say five of their remaining nine games are against ranked teams, and or three of those are on the road.

It's just it's a ridiculously tough schedule, and to expect to do that with seven or eight people and have it hang up is just not there. Unless we've got one minute left to stock real quick about the movement in u of a football players coming and going. I assume more to come. Yeah, there was a There was another one of the signees from this most recent class, Raheem Right, who decommitted today. And I think another one in an offensive lineman, Justin Hilkama, I think has backing out of his letter

as well. I mean that those ones are less surprising because you have no idea if the new coaching staff can gel with these guys that were recruited off the on the prep scene, if they never had any contact with them.

I think it's a lot easier to get the guys who were already here to stick around because they understand the setup and the culture and everything, and that's been very impressive the number of players, not just Noah and Timac who managed to stay, but just that it was kind of this collective unit and so you know, it's set up to where they could still have a very good season next year, and then twenty five is when it's more of a rebuilding

thing. I still want to see who they add because they've got about fifteen, if not more, available scholarships right now. So that's the next step is seeing who they start to add, and then we can get an idea of what Brent Brennan and this staff can do as far as how they want to bring in their own guys. Extremly live, I mean, iHeartRadio. Wow. This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Goozalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. Hey, welcome back everybody. I'm Steve Rivera, He's Jagan Zask got our guy Kevin in for on the ball. If you want to call us five two zero four one six seventy four forty you'd like to hear from you? Did you were you surprised that you you saw the Cats win? I think that according to you know, the Internet and the experts that are out there.

Some were and some were, Yeah, there were. I think there were more people who were not surprised, yeah, than than surprised. I think. I know Arizona fans tend to panic. Yes, when something like that happens on Thursday night and you lose to a bad team the way they lost. You don't, you're not. You're not. A Facebook you don't. You don't. You don't. On Twitter, you don't either. You're not. I don't comment a lot, like you know, I follow and I

read you're a peruiser here. Yeah, but like and sometimes I tweet on r behalf as I did on after the game on on on Saturday. I just said I didn't. I said, sometimes college basketball makes no sense. And what are you talking about? You thought it made all the sense in the world perfect to me. No, I didn't see that tweet. But you're not. You're not. You don't go. I don't. I don't rage. Once in a while, you know, something will set me off, and I'll I'll say, I'll say something, but yeah, not very

off. Yeah, no to me, to me, I don't get it. And I said today one of the tweets, because I don't even know why I read it, maybe just to talk about on the show. But you know, you have to certain people either they're really good to get the beat and then complain to me, it's a tree in the forest. What do you who's gonna read? Tell me? Know? Going? What are they talking about? On Facebook? It's like I'm gonna, I'm gonna start the bar. It's us, sure, us and the people we know.

You know, you you follow somebody because you're interested in what they have to say right on on on Twitter that you know, I I want to know what Mike Decursi is saying. I want to know what you know Yogi Roth is saying. So we fought those people for our for our Twitter account for them about Twitter account, we follow those guys cause we get information from those guys a lot of the you know, they're on our show. When they

follow us, we follow them. And but then I have a personal Twitter account that I pick and choose, and it tends to be you know, friends of mine, and I'm I'm curious into what they're saying. So those

are the two things that I pay mo attention to. But you know, I go in and I read this stuff once in a while, somebody will set me off what they do. Also, I'll put something up personally and say you're full of crap or excellent point, you know when when i'm when when I'm the one who's generally tweeting on behalf of mine on the ball, and it's more of a like that, like sometimes it doesn't make any sense,

you know. Or I'll congratulate somebody you know, who's done something great whatever, But you know, people, you know, I see what and I fight it. I'm not engaged. I get I don't know why. I get a little anxious, a little like what the hell are you talking about? But it's guys who people open the computer and oh, he should have passed that ball. Okay, what I mean, Oh he should have shut the ball or he would We all saw it, you know, just

because you said it. You know. Well, you know it's the thing like you know, you see Bruce and you see Brian Peterson, uh, Devin Homer, you know our former intern uh, and they're all tweeting a play by play of a game, and I'm like, I'm not sure what Yeah, no, but I'm talking about that. I'm talking about fans who were, you know, just watching the game and on Facebook saying oh God,

and then this is their this is their main story. Oh these guys are horrible and then they watch a game, and then watch a game enjoy the game. I don't know how guys do that? Why why they do that? Hi, you're on there and I have the ball. Yeah. I was sorry to hear yesterday or read yesterday that apparently, uh, Chuck Cecil is down going to be on the coaching staff. Is that for sure? Or do you have any ideas what's happened on that? I didn't see

that. It was in the Daily Star, Greg Yeah, Greg Hanson. Yeah. So so this is what my impression was before Sunday, because carry Cecil had been tweeting and kind of hinting that that was going to be the case. I had not heard. I heard that Hunley was going to be an analyst. He's not going to be on the field, but helping capacity as an analyst. I'm not surprised about Chuck. I'm not sure why that's the case, but I'm not surprised. Why are you not surprised? Is

that? Uh? Well, because his own team from San Jose or what's going on? Sure? Well, and there's only a number of spots. There's only enough spots. I'm not surprised, I will I'm saying that because of what Carrie had been tweeting out and and kind of like just the the numbers game. Yeah, it didn't sound like there was a spot for him, correct and pretty much. And you know, a coach is going to

bring who they're comfortable with. Sure, and you know, I mean, I'm pretty sure Bran Brandon knows of Chuck Cecil No, you know, of course, but it took pictures together. Yeah, but but you know, he's also going to get a coaching staff that he feels, you know, uh, he's most comfortable with. And yes, was it a great thing that that uh that Jed Fish uh you know, brought on brought Chuck and Ricky Huntley you know, to his coaching staff. Of course it was.

But Jed with Jed also had a little bit of a different approach and that he was really trying to rebuild the fan base's faith in the program and rebuild their interest in the program, and and not the Chuck and Ricky aren't good coaches, just that there was the added benefit of them sure being legends here and uh, and it would get you know, get some uh you know, uh some cachet or cachet with the fans. That's what I'm trying to say. Yeah, but beyond that, isn't he one of the best tacklers

ever ever put together? There is Orna or even at the NFL. And what he contributed to Maldonado having a great year. Yes, and yes and yes, yes, oh that's true. Oh that's true. But apparently it's not gonna happen. You must be heartbroken or something by your tone. Yeah, yeah, this is freak so to my arm and watching for a long time. Yeah and uh yeah, Chuck seas old. You know, even before that one hundred and sixty yard touchdown against a su was always one of

my favorites. Yeah, no, I get it. I get it a little surprising, but but I'm not. I'm sure Gregg's got it on the surprising. But no, you know, I mean a coach is going to bring you know, the guy, as we said, the guys that you know he's comfortable with, you know, maybe you know from his old coaching staff and whatnot. You got to remember Jed was building a coaching staff from

scratch. He wasn't coming with the coaching staff that he already had somewhere else whereas Brent Brannan you know, had a bunch of guys he's been coaching with for a while, and that that's the big difference. Okay, well, thank you. By the way. You also said Greg said that him Ricky Huntley was going to be UH player and development or something like that, more outreach with the U with a former players and so forth. So appairently he's

not coaching, you'll have a role. So yeah, that's that was kind of jerry for me. I like what Brig Branner has done so far, but I'm not real happy with that. But you know, I guess I guess I'll live another day to see what goes on, so real quick, Frank, You know, Ricky didn't coach much on the field this year either because he he had he had a knee operation. They had a knee replacement and and you had some complications with it and really couldn't be out on the

field. That's why Duyne a Keina ended up on the field. They swapped UH and and and Ricky was more on the analysts side, working on you know, UH with with players and whatnot and that's how Dwayne Nakina got on the field as a coach, so that may be as much to do with Ricky's health as it is anything else. All right, guys, thank you, all right, thanks Frank good, Yeah, thank you. Yeah.

No, I I you know, somebody asked me that, so not on the staff and as well sounds like the the you know, the the on field coaching positions are all full and so but I didn't know you had been uh uh you know, talking to carry and no, no, no, I hadn't drunk to her. She's been tweeting that, you know, she's been tweeting. She's been tweeting talking about nothing specifically that but God only this on our very oh and you can kind of tell what was going on through

those tweets. Look, I know fans would love to have those guys on the staff, but the end, you know, as I said, a coach has to be coaching with guys who he has a connection with, is comfortable with. And you know, I you know, there's always there's always somebody around that kind of hangs around and stays on the staff all the way back to when uh what's his name? Ha ha, Mark Luxford, you know, hung around a couple of staff, you know, to create some

continuity. Sure, uh, you know, but guys in the end, guys are going to get the guys that you know, they sure make up their staff. They feel like they feel good in the room with Yeah, that's that's what's going on here, right. Okay, anybody else want to call? We got about five minutes and we appreciate the call. Yeah, I'm just reading now the retirement blah blah blah. So he's talking about that

yesterday in the notes. Okay, what else is going on? You know, it's surprising to me, Gilbert, you said it did not play right? She played? Was she dressed on Thursday? But didn't dress dressed on Thursday? I told I went to the game, Oh yeah, yeah. My seats was, you know, across the bend, the other side of the court from the band. So I saw Kaylen Gilbert didn't start, and and I leaned over to my my daughter Rachel, who is up until December,

was working stats with me as well. We looked at each other like, what's Dalen Gilbert's not starting? What's going on? So then you know the game is going on, and then she doesn't come in and she doesn't come in, so I'm I'm kind of paying attention to what she was doing on the bench. You see, is she moping? Is she suspended? Uh? You know, is she hurt? What's going on? And she kept like turning in her seat like she was turning her like her back,

like she was having a back issue or something. And then she got one of those bands that has the you know, the you know, the muscles the muscles stimulator stuff, and she put one of those on. I'm like, Okay, she's got a back issue. But I guess now they're saying she might be out for the year, right right, And Idea didn't say

specifically why she was out for whatever reason. I don't know what the deals and since she's hurt or whatever, but it was clearly an issue where she was, you know, there was a health issue as to why she wasn't playing. She didn't play, and then you know, they played well against Cal and won that game. It was funny at halftime Cal had nine field goals and eight of them are three point If they were only making stuff from the outside, it was weird. They were like one for five on two

point shots and like eight for twelve on three point shots somewhere Staff. But they you know, they played a nice game on on Thursday, but you know, or Friday, but you knew Stanford was coming in on Saturday, and Stanford had their way with them. I think it was like ninety six sixty four, you know. And and as Brian said, they they do have a tough They've got ACU coming up. That's part of the doubleheader next

Sunday. But then they got to go to USC and UCLA both rank come home for Washington State and Washington then they go to Stanford cal usc in the UCLA's it's it's it's a monstrous they're eleven and ten. They're going to do well to finish above five hundred. If they do finish above five hundred, you got to say that's about as good as much as you can expect. I don't know if he is used any good this year. No, they're not. They're not there. You will just from not beginning if terrible is

at the bottom, to be not good there and then they're terrible. Yeah, there's the they're above terrible and not good. So I'm looking, do you love me? Well? What level do I love you? Well? They're ten and eleven. But they're two and seven and the well Arizone is only three and six in the conference. So there, Arizona is only a couple of games better than that, right, Okay, Okay, let's we'll see it's a home game, Yeah, home game, okay, doubleheader,

and you know what we need to do. We need to get some of some of the other sports baseball starting here. For yeah, all the sports are going. Tennis is going, golf, they've got a tournament going to day. I'm assuming swimming is gonna get going here, quick track, indoor track is going right now, So yeah, there's all the other sports. Get are going, just truck real quick. We're gonna talk some n i

L stuff. We've got Ray Wells back in this in the on the show talking about you know, does it change, how does the scope change with a new coach? Right? And and you know what was their role? What's been their role in getting getting players to stick around? Right? No? Good? They had to have had a role, right they're if they're holding some money, Yeah, yeah, I mean they gotta be their Their

job is great n I L opportunities, uh for the athlete. So that had to be the topic of conversation, you know, with Jet and Jet help raise money, right, I'm not sure for N I L, but for the for the facilities and stuff. Yeah, so, uh yeah, Ray Wells will be coming up at a quarter after. In the meantime, we're gonna breaking news coming up with Kevin, So stick around for all that. A lot of stuff we're gonna find out, alright, stick around breaking isner at the top of the hour.
