This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez. Sound Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Subscribe now to the podcast on the iHeartRadio app Just Surgery. I on the Ball. Hey, welcome back to you in the ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, you're Jay. No, we have Kevin with breaking news. This is I on the Ball Breaking news on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. All right, So, as we alluded to in the last segment, right, u Cilia Bruins have found their new head

coach. The former running back for the school is longtime assistant to Shaun Foster. You know, Jay had heard this yesterday, the rumors blah blah blah. And then when they signed him, I'm thinking, because we covered them back in the bed ninety eight. I didn't cover them then, but this is how old we are. I'm thinking, man, sounds like a desperate move to me. It just sounded weird. Well, no, you know, and I've told you I. You know, I've got a close friend

who is very has some U c l A tie. So I immediately reached out. Oh I I did a funny Adam on on the after Chip Kelly announced his h that he was leaving. I sent him a picture of Jed Fish and the u c l A visor and he just said, he just said, nopepen. Yeah, he said nope. That's all he said. He said nope. But then I said, this morning, I said, you know, what do you think of that? Sean Foster, and uh, you know, the comment was, you know, they almost kind of

had to because of the timing of this. They're really pissed at the timing of this at Chip Kelly. Look, you know, I mean a lot of people wanted him out, Chip wanted out. It needed to happen, but to do it, you know, the second week of February, Uh was was was a bad, you know, bad look for everybody. But you know, Chip's gonna do what Chip's gonna do. But uh, you know, they feel like, you know, he's a u c l A guy, played there, He's been a good coach, a good assistant coach.

They kind of had to get somebody like that. Sure, it'll it'll keep the coaching staff together because Chip's not taking a coaching staff with him. He's going, you know, he's going to UCLA to being part of a coaching staff. So they'll be able to keep the the core staff together. Uh, the fans like him, and and it sounds like I've heard seen a couple of things that the players were really behind him. So it makes sense. And guess what, they get him cheap, right, They're not

gonna have to pay him eight seven eight nine million dollars. They're not paying a buy out for anybody. So it just makes a lot of sense that he's the guy, and you know what, do let him have a shot at it. Yeah, I guess it was just strange. I don't think it was you use the word desperate. I don't think it was desperate. I think it was. Yes, you said it sounds desperation. It was.

I think it was necessary. Check the review, the tape. No, no, no, okay, I'll use the word because this is this is u c l A. Right, Yeah, a program or a school. You're thinking, wow, wow, I don't think wowed them anymore. But that's what that's what you see. That's the reputation among a lot of fans. You go out and talk to assistant coaches, people in you know, in college football, right, and UCLA has not thought of that way. UCLA is like there's this program that's got this history and they suck.

No, No, that I get you because I talk about that all the time. They're living enough a reputation for other things. They've got the they've got the worst recruiting class in the Big ten and that's sixteen teams, eighteen teams. Some teams they have now sixteen or eighteen sixteen. Yeah, but you know it's they've got. You know, they've been terrible, and that been terrible. They've been really mediocre for a program that is supposed to be

not mediocre, and for a long time, for a long time. So no, I think you know, look, I said, you don't give them a shot at it. And again, who are they going to go get at this time? Exactly, there's a name, there's anybody who's leaving their program that I get, And that makes sense. Yeah, yeah, yeah, all right. I hate when you make sense or I'm shocked because you know, blind squirrel, dude, blind squirrel really happens. I'm all right. So we have some more news out of the Bay Area. The

San Francisco forty nine ers. Some players came out after last night's game and said they did not know about the new overtime rules right, and the team had not talked about them in like what the situational decisions would be. And it was an interesting contrast because Kyle Shanahan, who is usually a control guy, did not talk to him about that. Andy Reid had outlined it extensively to what they were going to do entire season. I don't know if any

thoughts on that. Well. First of all, I you know, I was surprised because I didn't know the rule either. I knew the change. I knew that the change in rule was okay, everybody's getting the ball twice. I didn't realize though, that it was different from the regular season rule, where for those of you who don't know, it's a little more like

the college football rule, but not totally so. The rule is, both teams get a possession no matter what happens on the first possession or in the regular season, if the team that gets the ball first scores a touchdown, the game's over. In the playoffs, if the team that gets the ball first scores a touchdown, the other team still gets the ball, but they have to go score a touchdown to keep it going. Then after that it's

sudden death. That's the rule. So people have been saying, well, if if that's the case, then you should not take the ball and see what you have to do like they do in college, right, everybody in college, everybody plays defense because they want to know. Okay, if they kick a field goal, I know, if I would score a touchdown, we win. They But Kyle Shanahan is saying that he took the ball because if they were both tied at the end of the first possession, he wanted

the ball first because at that point is sudden death. Whoever scores wins. I get that to me. Any whatever happened, they were going to be the second the losing team was going to be I can guess. So if Kyle Shanahan had said, no, I'm taking the ball second, they're gonna say, you know. And then let's say they're tied and then Kansas City goes down and scores and wins the game, They're gonna say, why did you give why'd you give that up? There's no right or wrong unless you

get screwed, you don't have the right answer. You know, no, you should have known, well, you should have. It happened the way it happened. It happened the way it happened, it was a great game. I was unaware of the rule because because I heard I heard I'm Tony Romo and and talking about him saying, why would you not why would you not take the ball first if you can score a touchdown and win the game.

It was after the game that I that I realized, when I heard the counter that I realized that, well they remember they changed it from that great game a couple of years ago, or even lest year from the right. Yeah. So anyway, no matter, no matter what the losing team did, they were going to get second. Guess, no question happens all the time, every time, every time. I you know, look, well, what do we say before before the weekends, we said, don't

bet against no exactly exactly. And I've had I've had San Francisco fans say to me, the Chiefs were going to win this game. Wait, but it got to where it got the Chiefs were going to win the game. I even got points exactly exactly. Arizona Peel Larson has won. He packed twelve Player of the week for this week. Yeah, which was not a surprise, you know, twenty four and then eighteen. He did not look like Pele for forever. He was fantastic. He shot the ball well consistently,

he attacked the basket and we talked about it with Makawa. H I wonder if that stat still holds true, because it's a heck of a stat that we were told about six seven weeks ago and uh makes sense now. But but I wonder if that stats still holds I'm gonna look it up while we're going along here go for twenty Yeah, Okay, good because because if he's the key to this, but Steve, game in and game out,

we see it. We it's we we see that that when they lose the game, Pala didn't play well well you know what too well, we didn't talk much about killing I mean because he he's key to this and he's found a couple of the last two games he's played like he hadn't played in a while. Yeah, and he's played with confidence. And it's just they have a lot of parts to this. Okay, I just found it. Here's an interesting thing, Okay, Pela Larson is not the highest rated player for

Arizona. Guess who is. You're not gonna get I'm not even gonna I'm not even gonna tell you a guess because you're not gonna get who Jayden Bradley. Oh, because of his efficiency? Yeah yeah, yeah is that? What is that that is up to start? That's that rating? Yeah, Pa Pala is the next one, next Arizona player, but Jayden Bradley is the listed as the number fourteen and in the player ratings that he does, his list is number fourteen and then Palace twenty six. Well, because of

his because of his sufficiency, he goes in there and he's official. I still do you like the way he plays? I do? Why because I think because I think he's aggressive very much. So to deny that he's aggressive, he's not. He's not afraid too. I like that mostly because all of them do dumb things, right, but mostly and I love his mid rage jumper. I love his fourteen oh pull up jumper. He always makes it okay, and it's always in it and he's not afraid to take that

at a key time. Okay. So you have two guys like that we love and this guy, now, my whole thing is he doesn't know how to pass. Once he has Once he has the ball, he's going downhill and he's going to the basket. Am I wrong not to say that's a bad thing? Yea? But yeah, do you agree? No, I totally agree with you, because sometimes he's got guys open, but he I'd

rather drive to the Me too, me too. I like him. I don't I see why because for all the reasons you say, but damn, that ball is attached to that hand of his I ain't getting to give it up. And I don't know if that's a good thing for a bad thing. But so he's done well. I like it. I like it.

So the PEMA men's basketball team has moved up three spots in the Division two rankings to number fifteen, and the women's FEMA basketball team has moved up to number fourteen, So they're doing pretty well over there with I think between them they've only lost like six or seven games, right, So I got some great record, and the guy's team is scoring in the hundreds and all that we've had Peabody on before that. The time we had Peabody, he did

lots of the next game. So I'm not sure he wants to come on. He wants to come on again. It's that same team that gives him trouble in Phoenix. You know that one. Yeah, but they're doing really well. And then the last thing I have is Arazulna has moved back into being a one seed in the bracketology for at least on CBS. You know their number four are the fourth, the fourth. It's perdue yukon Houston. Well, pack your bags. They could be going to Salt Lake or Spokane

bringing a heavy coat. Hopefully they see them in Phoenix for the final four. Well, the last time it was there, they had a chance and then Trier came around. I didn't pass the ball to marketing. But that's all I happened. You aways bring that up. Is it true? It's yes, But still it's like I feel bad. Well you wait, wait, I bring that up, and you bring up the next game. You bring up the next game because they were going to face Gonzaga, and what

did you say? They weren't going to be They weren't going to be a bunch of men on that, But they were not going to be Gonzaga because they had a bunch of men on that. Yeah. Yeah, they have had a bunch of old guys because of the way they were playing. Yeah, no, I agree with that, but you know that that's boy, that's been a you know, we just keep going back to that all the time. That was. It's that's one of those stinging games. It just keeps coming up, right. Well, and like I said, you,

what were you doing? Is that you ever think when you were forty one, forty two whatever it was. It's it's been a long time since Minnesota. Yeah, well that again two thousand and one. Uh so that would have been you know, Mark April of two thousand and one. And my daughter who's turned twenty three today, was born in February of that year. Okay, well, yeah, she was a little old. He's an old lady now. And I'm like I have been tell her that, tell her

that you might. She doesn't listen to us anymore because we're always talking about her. Okay, well I'm always talking Rachel. Right, yeah, I'm going to text her right now what your dad said about you. My son got upset with me that I told the story that he wouldn't he wouldn't come and watch again. He didn't. He decided he was going to come, and then he said, no, I'm not they feel I saw him at

lunch today. I saw him a lunch. He was totally him, and I still haven't heard from my sister, totally silent on on on our on our group chats. But I asked him, I said, I said, how you doing. He just kind of shrugged his shoulders and shook his head, and that was that. Well. Let me also bring up a point. I think you were around this time September October. I think that Kansas City was playing not so well. Players were dropping balls, they weren't on

the same page. Yeah, and then people were saying, what's up with Kansas City? YadA YadA, They're not going to repeat. They don't look so good, they're missing hill YadA. YEAHA what do it mean? Absolutely nothing, absolutely right right. What happens in that stretch of time means nothing until actually that till the lights coming and that the day is how you play that day. And they played. They played pretty well in the whole playoffs.

They'd beat Baltimore. Baltimore had no chance, you know, well they well, you know again, listening listening to Eric Torres on podcast this morning, you know he mentioned that they got their butts kicked. Butts kicked Green Bay uh. On Christmas Day, the Chiefs did to the to the Ravens they got crushed and then they think. I think Green Bay beat them pretty badly to it if I can remember qurectly, how are you thinking this team? What? Yeah? What? And then they got hot? Yeah?

Then they got hot. All right, let's take a break. We're gonna be coming back with our Super Bowl reporter. George Mata is the owner of Showtime Cards, frequent guest and as well as a sponsor of the show. He was up there. Did not go to the game, Steve said, but was there, and we want to get a picture of what was that like? Was it? Now on the phone, we have George Munnis from Show Time Cards. George, how was Vegas for you? Oh? Vegas is still awesome. We are here, but it was incredible. It was incredible the vibe. So when did you get there? And first of all, what were you doing? So then we'll ask you from that where you've been. So we got here Friday night and it just started off like everything's happening all along the strip. There's music everywhere. There are Super Bowl parties going since Friday Saturday.

Obviously on Sunday, a lot of people are going to the game. I think it was a record thing, seventy two thousand people. But there was also a lot of parties, a lot of like every event was full. So you went there to have some fun. Did you intend to go to the game and found out that the tickets were too pricey? What were your hopes? We intended to go to the game. So we were season tickets holders to the Las Vegas Raiders and we had take it last year who

wins the game? It caused me about six thousand dollars. This year we had a budget set and we were hoping it was going to be double price, so twelve K we're gonna buy the tickets to them and find out it's another additional two thousand dollars fee per ticket. So now you're looking at sixteen k for it. And that's just gonna do it. I cannot pay two thousand dollars service fee for a ticket. Just too much. You just got invited to a cool party here call the Flankers, and it was it was,

it was great. You have to sell more tight Cobs or Patrick Mahone's cards now that they went up. But but you could also use this as a business trip, did you? And I saw you you met some people, did assigned some cards. Yeah, yes, yeah, we definitely use it as a business trip. Uh. We got to meet Trevor Lawrence that was the big one, and he was really nice. He actually chatted with us for you know, five or ten minutes kind of. He was super

nice. Him and his wife. It's just incredible. But some of the people that kind of snubbed us. It was like Harry Sanders, he kind of snubbed us. We did see him and said hello, if you didn't want to chat. Coach Antonio Pierce of the Raiders got to meet and greet with him, so that was cool. Yeah, all right. So, uh, just you're talking about the vibe, I mean, just how busy were things like restaurants, uh, trying to get a drink somewhere, getting

or just getting around. I mean, was that it was more nuts us couldn't leave the hotel. So we're at the Mandalay Bay NFL Experiences here at the convention Center, so we're probably like we're almost held constant here because you cannot get an uber or a cap. The weights are an hour and a half, and then just to get back is nearly impossible. All the streets are closed because this is the closest hotel to the stadium, right, so all the streets are closed off. You really can't get in and out of

this place. We got to walk a few places, but it's everything. And then Vegas knows that they jacked up everything. You know, the restaurant prices, the minimums at the tables that you know it but knows you go ahead, Oh it just I mean they they really took advantage of it, you know, and people paid it. They were You're that it's Las Vegas and it's a super Bowl and people are blowing money. So you're walking around

you and your your lovely girlfriend. Did you see people just randomly that you you know, don't know, but you know, like like the not like the Taylor Swifts, but you know what I'm saying, just the random famous everywhere everywhere you see kind of a retired player. You know that I recognize him because I'm in the in the business, but you know, like Aaron like he just looked so big. I was like, oh that's such and such a and so they were literally everywhere. Yeah, there was that.

There was a soft photo posted of Bijon Robinson hanging out with with Lebron somewhere over there and stuff like that. I mean it's crazy. Yeah, yeah, I know. Art So the owner of Fanatics owns tops now and my Michael Rubin owns Fanatics and he's a billion He's hosting a party and he has everybody at it. Tom Brady all these celebrities and rappers. Travis Scott, Well that's the second time the because you know who went to school with the

fanatics guy TJ. He was talking about him today. Yeah, so he's he started ling off like you right cards, yeah, and became this guy. Mm hmm. Can you It's really our industry is really growing and to have someone like that kind of the leader of the industry and the growth is phenomenal. And it's getting big. We're doing a show there in Tucsons and it's gonna be the biggest sports show. You know. It's it started as a collectible show. Now it just turned into a sports show and it's gonna

be in a couple of weeks. I think you guys are going to do a live broadcast there and and it's it's definitely growing our you know, our industry is definitely growing. Well, let me ask you this with with what happened last night with the Super Bowl, So how does that what does that do to things like you know, Patrick Mahomes card, Rock party card, Travis Kelsey card or not even just a card, their memorabilia. You know, this all all that has an impact. I'm assuming all those collectibles all

that has an impact even today. You know. So of my guys said, hey, do you want me to reprice these cards? And it was Patrick Mahons. PSA nine is at one thousand dollars. I was like, yeah, it's twelve hundred dollars. Everything went up at least twenty percent, but including even the runners up, like like prock Pirty. Everybody went up because he's so young. He was twenty three years old in the Super Bowl, so that people are speculating he could do it again. I looked at

the odds favorite. Guess who's favorite. Yeah, the Niners are favorite. Forty nine ers. Yeah, I many of that. They're still taking the Niners over me, but they are. I'll what would you remember? I gotta say one thing too. We're in Vegas and I placed a lot of bets, a lot of player pop bets. First half, think sixteen bets. I hit thirteen of them. Yeah, nice, okay, okay, Yeah, the Niners are plus five fifty and then the Chiefs are six fifty.

Yeah. I don't get it. The Chiefs are keeping everybody that team, that line pushed them around. How can they be you know who started for uh, the Ravens at nine hundred, bills at one thousand, and then the Lions at twelve hundred. Wow, okay, roll that money over baby, your team six. Okay, So let's talk about the show that's coming up next week. You said it's more than just a card show. What is it? So it's it's an entire collectible show. So we're gonna

have We're obviously we're gonna have some athletes signing. Some of the UFA players can actually do appearances now with the Nail deals. The basketball team's gonna be there. We're gonna have a couple of MLB prospects. One big one we just named was Jacob Wilson. He was drafted in number six overall by the opening as. He's our top prospect. He went to GCU. So he's an Arizona Well, he's actually a California kid, but he played here at

Arizona. He's just already's driving a lot of momentum. He's gonna be there Friday. There's gonna be you yo voice actors. He's getting a lot of momentum. Just all the sorts of different type of collectibles. Sore Pokemon's big. Yeah. So are you the man in charge of the event or are

you collaborating? It's our show. It's called the Showtime Sports Spectacular and I did partner up with them and the Casino Del Soul and we're just putting on and it's so far as getting a lot of traction, a lot of momentum, and it's gonna be a big show, all right, And we're we're looking at doing doing a thing out there. So so George, you know,

next up it's you know, you got Final four coming up. Is there any what college collectibles are out there for for folks, especially now that you do have players signing and you know they can come to come to events and sign their jerseys and all that kind of stuff. How is that? How's that market going? That? It's a huge market. You're right. Even for me to get these players before, I used to deal with them direct, I call it coach. Coach, give me the player's number and

we could do a deal. Now I have to go through agents, player agents, and we got to strike deals and pay a lot of money. So it's different. But they also have cards, you know, like Pops has deals with Bowman Chrome University cards. Caleb Wilson are Taylor Sorry? Caleb Love has a sports card. Who else? Uh, A couple of our Arizona players do. I'm not sure exactly obviously the checklist, but they're out

there and people are collecting them, and they they'rek commanding some money. Now, so I was just gonna say, so, if you have a player, let's say X for U of A. Now, they don't have to go anywhere do anything unless you put some money in the pocket, right yeah, yeah, yeah. Unfortunately that's the way it is. But you know, I always said like they should, they deserve to get a little money, and and that you know, they're making so much money for these universities,

and now it's it's almost like you're dealing with a pro. Absolutely. Wow. So when are you going to start the sports talk radio host cards? And uh, you know, because we'll sign. Steam's gonna get his own car. Yeah, well we'll sign. I'm sure we'll sign right once. I well, you guys are legends and you should get some. So once we signed those cards, it diminishes the value. As we signed. We want the unsigned one, yes, yes, with no stats. I'll beef up my stats. I'll be like, you know, six two exactly

exactly. Well, George stay safe over there, man, Yeah, thank you, catch a flight. We'll see you soon. Hey. We we made it through the weekend. So we're we're safe and down. We're getting it. Head to the airport, head on home, get ready for this show. Can you tell how Vegas just kind of went quiet or no, there's still a lot of people there. Hey, no it did it really shut down? Went quiet first semi just packing things up and load you know, it really changed. Okay, right, well, good for you.

Hey, thanks about start. I appreciate it, my pleasure. Guys, thank you, thank you. I would for six thousand, six thousand last year for the tickets, two thousand dollars service fee, just for just for the privilege of buying a ticket. No, dude, no, no, yeah, well we talked about you know, right, we had the conversation

Japan. I'm like, no, you know, I'm only going at this point, I'm only going to Super Bowl if I can get a credential to one, or if somebody's gonna invite me to be their guest, because you know, I mean, I'm not gonna pay five hundred bucks. No, I know, I think I think I would that, but that would be like holy crap. Really. Okay, So my biggest thing that I want to get to, but that's two prices even now is before I want to go to the Derby. I want to go to Derby and maybe the Breakness

the British Up and those those tickets are in the thousands too. I want to go to the Masters, see stuff like that. I wouldn't say for the longest time, and I could have gone. I could go, but I've lost interest in it. Was the Indianapolis, Oh yeah, and plenty of guys you know, yeah, you know, yeah, we know people all the time. Yeah, I mean yeah, but I used to love the Indianapolis. So we have time here. You went to the you went to the TVC over the week. Kid, wasn't as crazy as they said.

And I don't think you paid for the ticket, right, so I'm sure it was worth it, But wasn't How crazy was it? It was pretty crazy? It was really. I was talking to j about it. Apologies for my voice. I lost it at the at the tournament, Get off of me. Yeah, it was. It was wild. A lot of people got way too drunk there. You could tell. It was wet, it was muddy everywhere, it was gross. People were slipping, falling. The crowds are more interested in the slipping and falling than the putting and

driving and all that stuff. But it was a good time. Yeah, But I was telling you Jay, the party that is, the waste management tournament has gotten out of control and now they're gonna have to somehow figure out way to tone it back. There was beer being stolen from concession stands. They stopped selling beer for a while because of that. What time did you get there Friday? We got there earlier because we knew Saturday was gonna be crazy, so he kind of wanted to walk and watch some golf because he

knew maybe Saturday we wouldn't get a chance to Saturday. What times you get there? Like? Probably ten? How long did it take you to get out of there? Not long because we stayed for like most of it on Saturday. It didn't take us maybe, oh really yeah, But a couple of my people I went with, they left about halfway through the day, maybe four o'clock, three o'clock. It took them an hour to get back to their car. So there was a there was a video and I can

picture him. I'm trying to look up his name right now. I can picture him. There's a video of one of the golfers confronting a fan. Was it Sefer Zach his name, No, it wasn't Scheffler. It was what was going on, apparently the Zach Johnson there was somebody just yelling something and he just went up and says, just shut the hell up and watch the golf tournament. Right, that's almost impossible, right, just somebody who because you know, the video didn't show what the guy was saying, but

he was just basically saying, this is crap. Just you're here to want

just watch the golf tournament, right, you know. And so the thing what what you know, going to your point, what's happened with this golf tournament is that it's become part of the experience to be a drunk idiot, right that that it's it's it's part of it that you know, because if what's happened around the sixteenth hole, that's like, Okay, this particular golf tournament, this is what, this is what it's supposed to be, and it is so it is so UNPGA that I gotta believe that they're gonna have

to How do you fix that? I don't know. Genis out of the bottle. It is out of the bottle. Well, one of the ways is you can limit attendance. They said there were half a million people on the golf course on yesterday Saturday. Half a million people on the golf course. I mean you could see it if you looked around. It was just people forever, people forever. But I was gonna say, I think you

limit the amount of party aspects. I mean the DJs, there's live contents after, there's like part of the there are people going to the golf course that never actually see anyone in the golf right. They're there for the party because that's what the fun part of it is. That's what I'm saying. If you've remove some of those elements, those people probably would find that elsewhere and not go to the event. Yeah, it's funny, it's weird. I don't go to those things, but I don't even know if I would

want to that, but I would not. There were times that I thought I'd want to go. I've never gone because it I was on Super Bowl Sunday, but I thought that'd be fun event, you know, with all with all the you know, hoopla. But what I saw over the weekend. I'm like, I would stay so far away from what did Yogi Berra say? Nobody goes there anymore because it's two packed or something like that. Those aren't the exact words with something along the life. Yeah, anyway,

Steve Rivera and Jagn Salez they have their eye on the ball on Tucson Sports Stage Jet Fox Sports fourteen fifty streaming live on the iHeartRadio app. Hey, welcome back to O the ball here Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jay got Kevin with us today? So am I bricking you right?

Give it up? Man? I guess so with all this stuff with UCLA and all that transparency, Jet admitted that he interviewed it with texas A and m in December. That's what Okay, I went, I just saw that read that Athletic article on him that, yeah, that he and that was the only other school that he talked to, he said, he said, he said, I think you know, and I know that that's not true. I don't think it's true because there was another school that we heard

that was involved. I think it came out publicly too that he denied. Yes, that wasn't UCLA, right, So now it's a you know, how you gonna admit this. I'm surprised that this came out because he had to admit that he did it. Yeah, unlessay, it really knew that he did it. The un they were yeah, calling him on it, Yeah for sure. But in the article he also talks about the three minute meeting that people were a little up in arms about, and he said that

that was not by his choice. That because of the new rules related to transfer portal and stuff like that, that all you can do is go in there and say I'm leaving. You can't say where, you can't say why. All you can say is thank you and leave. Because if you say anything like you said, I'm leaving to go to Washington, it's considered tampering. That would have been helpful at the time, don't you think from his

end, Yeah, but to kind of explain the reason why. Yeah, And then and then he made then he also addressed the whole issue of signing that contract at home. Washerman write washerman wrote that story. I think it's Washerman, Yeah, Ery washing ye. Erry Washington wrote that wrote the story. It was sort of Q and A. Well, you know, it wasn't a story. He wrote the story, but it came from he got him on his podcast on the until Oh Saturday podcast. Okay, so if

you want to go listen to it's a thirty minute interview. So what else? What else was? Well that what one of the reasons he left was because he was losing some coaches that he had to consider leaving because Johnny Anson had left. He meant, he says, there was another coach was talking about leaving. Well know that was Duayne Aquina who was talking about leaving, and he and he just kind of felt like, Okay, there's all this, you know, this opportunity coming to Washington, but I've also got some

things that I wasn't expecting. And so he took the job. And he said also because of the pool for the assistant coaches that Washington. But he said, I'm I was also trying to create an opportunity for my assistants with more money. For that. You gotta read the whole thing. I'm I think, I mean, you might have to go. Go. I followed that podcast. It's Harry Washerman's podcast. Go listen to that and you'll hear the cause this is this is this is just basically a transcript of the podcast.

Let's take this call. Hi are on the air and I on the ball. Hey, how's it going today? What's up? Well? Umlike everybody else in the West who watches Arizona basketball, you can't trust him. It was a great weekend. No great weekend. No no, don't don't validate Steve's opinion on this. No, no, no, come on, he's not you know, one of the few times I do agree with him. You know, it's like, you know, Steve can be right twice a day. Okay the clock, yeah, okay, yeah, but you

know, I mean they played great boat. I mean I was shocked on the Colorado game only for the fact that having to play, you know, the three overtimes. I thought we're in trouble on Saturday, but they looked really good on Saturday night. Now the problem is that they continue that against a su at home. I think they will, but then we have then we have the road trip. Yeah no, put that and I'm having to play uh U c l A again, you know, and that's going to

be tough. And they're playing there and they're playing well, They're playing very well. They may be right now the best team in the conference. Well at least the second best team. I'm with you on that one, Brian, Brian, where did you sleep last day in the holiday inns? I obviously learned some stuff, you know, over the last week because I haven't

called for a while. But you know, you know, we're just watching them play, and you know, I'm pel Larson had a great weekend and like you say, you know, the team goes basically as he goes. But I thought the key the thing was was, uh it was his name to guard who's been having all yeah Buzzwell, he played well, He played really well, and it was just so nice to see, you know, I mean, is he out of this punk now? Because he had two

really good games on the road. You know, we won't know so what would disappoint you if they didn't get to what I want to get out of the first round. Well, you don't ask for much, you know, Hey, I'm sorry, but you know, after what's happened the last you know, the last four or five years, I think we should get to the Elite eight at least, and that would be true epic. But you know, let's just play one round at a time and everybody's sitting there going,

I'll get to the final four. And it's not worrying because we don't know what kind of kind of team we're going to have to play. And that's that's the real key to the pretty much matchup. Pretty much so are the team I wouldn't want to play if Houston, uh something like that, Well, you know, yeah, someone like that who's big, physical and can shoot from outside they were in trouble. Well again, you get to that point, whoever you are, you have to impose your will on them

and not let them impose their will on you. And and right Arizona allowed allowed Houston to impose their will on them, you know, a couple of years ago, and you can't let that happen. So, you know, you have to make Houston worry about playing you instead of you always worrying about playing Houston. So right, whoever? Right, Yeah, I'm hoping like this weekend's game Saturday night is like a blowout, you know, nothing like

what happened last year. It was that was pretty bad. Well, I think I think he'll be on the I think, but I would like to see not a close game. I want to see a blowout. Yeah, I think Arizona would be on the alert for that. Yeah, not least, I think so too give an issue. Luckily caught Utah at a terrible time. Yeah, I was shocked, you know, I mean, I mean just like Utah just gave up. Yeah, you know, they they

didn't want to play. Yeah, okay, all right, Brian hey man, be well, thanks about I like Brian's listening to me and kind of going my way, even if it's only twice a day. Okay with that, And I'm just being realistic. I mean, if you want to talk about your your momentum and trends, what's Arizona's trend? What says Arizona trend? Guarding on the perimeter right, struggling against not so good teams? Okay, you don't think it's going to happen again, or they're going to see

those teams again. We'll find out, you know, I don't know. Look you know again and I said earlier, I think I said last way, I said, if Arizona Wendsley's two games, you can't just assume everything's all good and they're set for the year. But you know, they what they have to They just got to keep doing this. They need to Brand's right, they need to blow out ASU. They can't go play a close game against ASU because they see not very good. And that's here right there.

That game is here here Saturday night. I don't think you worry about here, Yeah, you worry about there, but the listener, Yeah, but they beat Arizona here last year with that half court shot. But the fact that ASU was in the game at the end in position to do that, you can't let them do that. You got to take care of business here, you know, beat them by you know, eighteen twenty points, and people say, okay, we're still you know, Arizona's still on the

you know, on the upswing. And then then after that, I think you've got shot. They've played three three home games, so they must have the Washington Schools coming in and then they go on the road again. Hey, man, Washington is next weekend. We're fifteen, we're fifteen weeks in Man. We got a month before the tournament. They pack twelve tournament and then the big tournament. It's it's right around this court. They've got Yeah,

they got as and they got the Washington Schools. Man nine o'clock game, which one Washington a week from a week from Thursday. Seconds, nine o'clock. They cry, Yeah, those are fun. Eight those are fun eight. Dan all right, okay, anybody want to call again? About five minutes. We've got to call it. One more call. You're on the air and eye them ball Hey guys, it's John. How you guys doing, John, How are you? I'm all right. I don't trust these guys neither, Like Brian, Yeah, well I hear you. It's

funny now knowing who you are. Done. You're kind of a Twitter guy too, aren't you. I've got to play around a little bit exactly. You know what's funny talk about you bring up the eggs. Steve all weekend long, he was like, oh, Umar Ballo when he plays well, Arizona does well that he has to do well. Right, and then they said, then somebody tweeted the same thing about Pally, right, and then the same thing about about the guard. Carlin kind of yeah, yeah,

No, it's like everybody everybody has his place. Yeah, but it's like, hey, everybody has to play well, right right. It's the thing is that, you know, it's like it's not that if this guy plays well, the team will do well. It's like everybody's got to play well. And everybody played played well over the over the weekend. Colorado was that was an awesome game. Yeah, I was, I was. I was

really surprised by that game. I just thought they were going to be gassed and the whole bit, and they just came out and just you know, they I mean, Colorado really was never in the game. Of course, if you're like me, even when Arizona's up by twenty, I'm like, Okay, if they go on to four nothing run and cut it to sixteen, I get worried about them losing the game, are blowing the lead, and I think Colorado twelve or fourteen at one point, I'm thinking, don't

blow this, And they were never in day for blowing it. Yeah, but it's like you said, like you say, Jay that that twenty point league gets to sixteen and then it goes to twelve. Yep, and then they've had a history of going to sleep on offense. Yeah, they've done that a bit. They have done that a bit, and their start your your I don't trust these guys exactly exactly. For mere disappointment would be if they don't get out of the first weekend. If we get to the regional,

the sweet sixteen, I think that we'll be in. I think that's what we're going to be, playing teams that we did. I think the guys are going to be focused to play and what happens happened. Yes, and if you go up against a better team, okay, you go in

up against a better team. Yeah. Yeah, but the first round, the first and second rounds are going to be scary, especially if we get through the first round and we play somebody that got an upset in the second round and all of a sudden, it's like, hey, you want to beat Arizona, just cross half court and chuck it because we're gonna make it. Everybody does. Don how old are you don't mind me asking? Fifty

eight? Fifty eight? Oh so your buck Orange, and so what were you doing in two thousand and one, two thousand and one, I was, actually I was. I was on a working on a project. I was on campus at the U of A. Okay, that's the last time they went to the Final four. Yeah, well, Jesuise, did you have to say it like that? He keeps doing that. Done, he keeps doing that. I'll tell Louis, Louis, it's like my next door

neighbor. He was all like, he's a forty nine er fan and he's telling me, man, it's been thirty years since we won a Super Bowl. And I look at him, I go, I don't care. It's been forty years. It's been forty years since the Raiders won up. Okay, all perspective done, all perspective, okay, all perspective and momentum. Yeah, well Arizona doesn't have any momentum at the Final four, so we'll

play that. Thank you, Donk all right, don thanks, all right, thanks just keep saying that, man, that just you know, I think about that time. Arizona will be fine. Got to get to the Sweet sixteen, got to get to and then you'll play like teams. You'll meet up for the teams. And then if you if you run up against a team that's just equally as good, what do you do You say, Okay, here we go, here we go, or hey, we tip your cap, whatever you do to the other team because they were good.

It was only Monday. It was only Monday on Monday. Okay, we're moving along, so no good stuff. Thank you to aer Taurus that that was good stuff that you had on Arizona. There's an article in The Athletic UH or you can listen to the Until Saturday podcast to hear Jed Fish's comments and then you can decide whether or not you believe what he had to say. I know, Fancy, there's a lot of fans in this town who are still angry at him for for leaving. But you're gonna do what you're

gonna do, not anymore since they got Brent Brannan. You were before, not angry, just like, don't feed me a line of bull and then go against the line of bull. You know, don't do that. You know, if you want to leave, like I said, if he had always, if you had never said, oh we're dug in, you know, we really love it here and we're gonna you know what you just say. You know we're here, but don't don't give every don't try and sell I'm here forever. Then blow out of town the first chance you get.

That's all. And that's what he did. Okay, all right, let's get out of here. We'll be back tomorrow and we'll have some more stuff. So stick around and not stick around, but come back tomorrow
