This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and jagon Zalez sound Fox Sports fourteen fifty powered by Nova Insurance Services and Sure Your Most Prized Possessions kat z R two SAD and iHeartRadio Station Yet the good afternoon. Everybody. Welcome to Iye on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, He's jagan ZAUS got our guy Kevin in today. Welcome to the show.
Welcome to super Bowl Monday. Any hangovers financial or otherwise, Well, I mean, you know, I was just telling you about our our groups a day in the in the with our super Bowl props, and the overtime killed us. But you know, I woke up this morning for some reason incredibly stressed, like I had had a stressful night of sleep, and I'm not even sure why. Because this thing that we do, we do it it's
fun. I didn't I personally didn't lose a whole bunch of money. I lost like ten buds because it's a large group of people that puts a large amount you know, everybody puts a little bit of money in this thing. We put a large amount of money. Get you know, we had over seventeen hundred dollars in in bets, and we had a whole bunch of propits. So we just have fun watching the game. And so I you know, I lost maybe ten dollars because I just have a very small share of
it. But the fun of it is watching the game and watching all these things happened on I'm telling you we got hose by going into overtime. That stupid blocked extra point that caused the overta screwed us and and uh and so we uh and for the same and for the second time. And I think when whenever Brady won the one, I think when he won the Super Bowl. I believe with the uh with Tampa Bay, we twice. Now we've lost an over under on the quarterback's rushing yards by taking a knee, which
they lose one yard, so it flipped it over. So we had had that happened to us again last night when Rock Pardy took that knee at the end of regulation. We had a lot of fun. Steve, it's a very cool that was an entertaining game of the very entertaining the first time. Yeah, you know, my well, my brother we had he was over watching. We had a group of a small group of people watching it. He was, this is an awful game. I'm like, it's not a
bad game. You're just losing all your bets. That's why he's a bad It was very It was very mundane because the first half, certainly the first half, but it really got going in the second half. And I mean there were thirteen points at halftime and it ended up forty seven. So yeah, holds it over under total, Well, there were fifty. I had it at forty seven and a half. So was the number. I didn't know the number. What was it? It was forty seven and a half
that that was the number and they ended at forty seven. Yeah. Again the missed extra point, Yeah, damn scripted NFL. Well, you know what they showed the replay. That was a terrible kick. He might have even missed it. It was it was it was low, low and inside or low into the left, and that's why the guy was able to block it. H That was a terrible kick on an extra point. You know from the angle that they showed up the replay of the block, it was
going left anyways. But you can't miss an extra point in the Super Bowl. You can't or anywhere you kicked like your life is depending on Yeah, yeah, okay, No, it's a good game though. It is a good game. It was fine with about what whatever minutes I can I can't remember the game. You're thinking that Mahomes has the ball. Yeah, the last minute. You know who's gonna win? You know, it was that stretch for the Niners in the third quarter went they a three consecutive three and
outs. You're thinking this, this is this is where, this is where you let Mahomes back in the game, because they had a ten point lead going into the I mean the seven point seven point seven point lead going in. They're leading by ten and and how do you you know, all you got to do is get another touchdown and stretch the lead a little bit and you might be able to hold him off. And they and they just couldn't, you know. I mean, George Kettle had two catches for four yards,
But he's your guy. Did he not go into Shanahan's face and say he wanted to play more? No? That? No? He no. Now with Kelsey, yeah he did. He nearly knocked him out, didn't he. He Kelsey knocked Andy read over? Yeah? You know what do you think about that, you know, you almost have to give excuse it a little bit because you're in the Super Bowl, right, and everybody's emotions
are incredibly high. Kelsey wasn't getting the ball, and it was after a play where he was completely wide open, and and Holmes he wasn't in the play during the right and Mahomes threw a ball to a guy who was covered, but the guy caught the ball, so he almost can't complain. But Kelsey was wide open on that play. So I don't know, you know, I don't I don't know that there's ever an okay time to go bump your coach and yell in his ear, But you almost say, I can
see how that could happen in a Super Bowl. So did you see the story? And I read about the story about Kelsey the pregame in the pre game. I guess they had a show on him and how much he's improved in terms of his temper, how he's kind of more you know, he's evolved into this player, and he quoting the coach and obviously read saying, oh he's come a long way, he's more mature, YadA, YadA. And then but you know what, I think competitors compete. Yeah, and
he was just in the moment of this. You know, he probably went about it. Probably he did go about it different. But but if you want to make a point, he made a point and he was abused more efficiently the next next round. So you were rooting really hard for the Chiefs. How did you take the game? I just watched it. I just watched it. I was out in Phoenix doing things and watched it. I'm glad they wont because I made some money from it. But it was a
good game. And then wait, it ended with but you had going on with were you like, no on pins and Neils on edge? No? No, no, just no, because no, no, I don't do that anymore. Jake. Well, you know the last time I did damn what's his name with the Jets now, yeah, I got at twenty five to one to get to the super Bowl and he and he didn't run for
that kid. Yeah. See that's us too. We had fun. You know, we had all these we had all these bets going and all these things, and we're keeping you on checking the Yeah, well we're tracking. I'm you know, you know, I'm sitting at the food table and I've got my computer in front of me and I'm checking the yards. Doesn't that take away from the game? Oh no, not for me. It makes a game more fun. It's kind of like a bingo card. It is like a bingo card. You said, Well, it's like, okay,
you know, okay, the Niners have possession. This is what we need to have, and we love rooting for that, right. How you know we got to uh uh uh the Chief's last possession of regulation. Okay, we needed we needed I take it back, I take it back. It was the forty nine No, no, yeah, the Chief's last possession of regulation. We needed pat Patrick Mahomes to get forty three yards passing to hit the over So that's what we were keeping. And you're thinking that's very possible,
right because they're gonna throw. Yeah, they need to throw the ball there, you know it. Yeah he did because he ran for some But the problem was on that same on that same two Lake parlay, on the same ticket, we had rock parties under passing yards okay, and and he
we had like I think we had thirty yards to play with. Well, they got into overtime and he got the thirty yards on that first driving over here, so you know it. So we have fun with that because we you know, we as a group, we're all in on this thing. So we track. Okay, here's what we need on this drive. The only thing I did something like that was, you know, when you get
the squares, you buy the squares. I was kept, you know, after every score, I was kind of okay, yeah, but you know, here's one that we had fun with the whole night, all right, and it was frustrating we didn't hit it. Nick Bosa had his hands on Patrick Mahons all night long. He was over under. It was zero point two five. He needed a half sack. Okay, there was him personally,
Yeah, him personally. There was a sack where Chase Young got there first, but Bosa helped on the tackle and they gave the whole thing to Chase Young and Bosa didn't get the half and all we needed was the half. And then there were two other times where he had him in the back he had his hands on him in the backfield and didn't bring him, including the one of the last plays of the game, right he was chasing them down, chasing them down because I think the sack was two and a half.
Was it total sacks the team? Yeah, maybe he got three, he got they got him three times, but we needed a half a sack from Nick Bosa and he had Mahomes in his sights. I don't know how many times. Well, we'll talk about this on the other side. No. Four o'clock hour, right, George Modis is coming into town, coming on the show. He has a big show coming up next week. We'll talk more about that later. But he was in Vegas not for the game.
He didn't go to the game. The ticket he'll he'll explain the ticket price. But he went for a show and to have fun. And we're gonna see how Vegas was. Yeah, I want to ask, well, just you know, you were just seeing videos of like massive amounts of people standing in lines for something and not at the game. I'm talking like Friday and Saturday, you know, at events and at locations where lines for everything were just massive. Final Four is there? Next year? When's the Final
Four there? It's in a couple of years, two three years, that's coming on. It's going to be crazy for that too, not to this extent, but it's going to be fun. But you know, you knew it was going to be not so for Super Bowl, right, I mean remember when they had the All Star weekend NBA All Star Weekend there and then people were getting shot and stuff. I mean, well it's like a Tyson next year. Okay, cool, but in San Antonio, Indianapolis, Vegas.
So but yeah, I was really expected. And yeah I love to hear from Georgia. But what Vegas was? It was like on Super Bowl because I can't imagine Vegas. Who was your first ever been like this? What was your first time in Vegas? In Vegas? Yeah, first time I looked to Vegas. Yeah, that's for a reason. I was like
six six. We played in New Craps. My parents, my parents, I remember this was like my parents were were you know, we were We were on our way home from a Disneyland trip and my parents, my parents decided they wanted to go to Vegas and we went and we stayed at the Horseshoe downtown and we just overnight and so we got to the hotel here. Well I just stayed in the show. So as an adult, As an adult, I was underage. I was working in Bullhead City. Yeah,
yeah, I was. I was nineteen years old. I was working in Bullhead City. Actually I was. Yeah, I was nineteen years old, working in Bullhead City on the newspaper there on the summer, on a summer internships. I went to Vegas a couple of times. I've got to play a little bit, you know. I didn't look. I didn't look twenty one, but a couple of places I went to didn't care. So that was the first time I went, the first time I was legal. I was. I'm sure I was just twenty one, because you know, you
would go a lot. Oh, do you remember much about it? All the city looked Yeah, I mean, I'm thinking back when I remember going back to the desert in the star Dust year the seven year number, well, seventy nine was when I was in Bullhead City, so you know, it would it would have been nineteen, you know, nineteen eighty eighty one that I would have gone as old enough to And that was it was. It was not it's obviously not what it's not what it is now, but
it was cool. It was the old It was the old strip right seeing the Dean Martin movies right with I said, the star Dust, the desert end, the Sahara, the Riviera, the Frontier, the Dunes. You know, we stayed at We stayed at the Tropic Cannon, golfed at the
dunes one year. You know the Caesar's Palace before it was the massive place is now the Barbary Coast right across right across the street, the corner which is not there anymore, you know, pre Valley's, pre Mandola, pre all all of those places, right, I was just remember all those. My point was how different it is now. My time was eighty seven. I think the MGM had just got up or was going up. Yeah,
in that corner area where were you. The MBM grand went up in early nineties because I remember that because we were in Vegas and we took my son Adam, who's now is not going to turn thirty one in a couple of months. He was probably two years old. They just finished it because they're starting when I was right, they had just finished it, uh and uh, and we went to it and we thought it would be a coolace for him to go because there might be all this Wizard of Oz stuff and there
wasn't. So it was no. Eventually, eventually they had so many eventually, No, it's it's changed so much. Obviously obviously for the good and the bad. More prices. You can't do anything cheap now at all. But okay, okay, So we'll get to George Montison in the next hour at three fifteen, three seventeen, we have eron Torres Tours on Arizona. He's uh, yeah, he's got a you know, a Twitter account that's run locally. He's a national guy Fox Sports. He has a national podcast.
Uh we uh you know, we get him occasionally. Yeah too. He follows Arizona quite a bit. He has an interesting comment today or maybe over the weekend about that when he yeah by saying that, you know, Arizona's back in you know, back in the top five where they should be, uh, the first place in the PAC twelve you know, yeah there. So, so we had been trying to reach him the last two three
weeks. He's been too busy or whatever. So I was driving home from Phoenix last night that's where I was watching the game, and I heard him on the show. I heard him on his show, I guess on Fox up there, and I said, well, maybe he'll say yesterday, And so I called him this morning and he said, yes, Uh, I
guess he's in Arizona. For a couple of days. Okay, so that's why I guess he has time to do it, all right, So so good, go get him on. We'll talk about you know, the people who have jumped on, jumped off, jump back on, and jump back off and jump back on. Did you see what my post on Facebook today? Let me if I click it up during the break? Okay, you know it's sure it is Steve and me all of a sudden, everybody, Yeah, well, you know they're really good. We knew they were good.
Stop it. We thought they were going to lose both games in the Mountain, well, we thought they spent. But here's here's my quick It was one of those now number five in the a P pole and yes, number one in your hearts unless your post on face, unless you post on Facebook that they suck and they missed a shot and then you ate them because it's true. Come on, it's totally true. Look, and I you know, I mean I said I didn't think that they were going to win
both games. We didn't, and especially after they after the slog that they had against and I didn't realize that they had hadn't been Coloradison's to that I had no idea. How tough it was. I had no idea. But they played well this weekend. Yeah, yeah, they didn't. Was fantastic. They looked every bit, every bit, every bit the top five teams. So well, we'll talk about So we're back on. I'm back gone. Yeah man, Yeah, they're number one in my heart. We're going
to the final four. All right, let's take a break. Word. I'll be back with Erin Torres from Fox Sports Radio. Make the right choice for your home when it comes to windows and doors. For more than twenty years, the Window Depot has provided the best price and biggest inventory on in

He's Jay Now on the phone. We have Aeron Torres from Torizon, Arizona. Aeron. How you doing that? I'm really good. How you guys doing well? I know what you're doing because because it was a great weekend for the Wildcats. But I'm I'm well, I know you got to do. But everything else stood besides the basketball team went back to that game. We are fine. We are fine. By the way, we're here to I'm filling out my bracket. Should I put Arizona to win it all
after the weekend? Yeah, I mean, I mean, first of all, I'll say this is that once you get past that top two, it's a pretty wide open field. And I was thinking about it watching the call Colorado game. Is I do think you know you put Arizona on a neutral court against pretty much anybody, they're going to have a size advantage of talent
advantage and that moticism advantage. Now, I don't want to get everybody riles up and excited on February twelfth or whatever today is and guarantee anything, but listen, I think you could make a lot worse sick than taking Arizona to go far when the tournament bracket eventually does come out here in a few weeks.
So you know Arizona fan, and I don't know how well you know the Arizona fan, but you know this team is as you said, it's in that bunch right after Purdue and Yukon that everybody's got five or six losses. But when Arizona loses a game to a Washington State or whoever, fan here loses their mind and and they think that those other teams who have five losses, they don't care who they lost to. They think it shouldn't happen here. It's really weird that I think Arizona fan this year thinks less of
this team than say people I'm from the out side. Arizona fan is wondering why are they top five right now. Yeah, I'm sorry, I'm a little confused. What just a question? Are you guy? It seems like the national media thinks a whole lot more of this team than the Arizona fan does right now because of who Arizona got. No. I totally get that, and I think there's something to that. Now, listen, First of all, you know, we all know fanas short for fanatic and and people.
Every fan base has people that are going to overreact. But what I would also say is, listen, this team isn't perfect. And I think when you're a fan of a specific team and we all are listen, I'm a ukun alum. I think you guys know that. And I watch that team and I think, you know, I probably watch it with a keener
eye than a lot of other people. Now, the last couple of games, they've been awesome, But like there have been games where I sit there and say, well, if this doesn't change, there's no way that you know they'll win this game, But they can't win that game and they go on to win. So I actually get where Arizona fans are coming from, and I think what I would also say, it comes from a good places. We've seen what this team's potential is going to Douke and getting to win.
We've seen what this team's potential is beating what was a good Wisconsin team really until the last week or two in the manner of which they beat them. So I think what the fans are sitting there saying is is like, I've seen this team at its best. Let's get back to that, and now it's up to the team to kind of do that, but more importantly, do it consistently parent along those lines, go here, you've seen their potential, and you've seen their potential on the other side, you just have
that's the scary part. Well, it is, and you know, I think the thing that kind of would frustrate me is that it's been really games to game like like like again, I just used the example Wisconsin. They're in a fuck they've lost four straight, but they also had a stretch of about, you know, eight nine games to start league playing where they were awesome and so Arizona was great in November December, but since PAC twelve play has started, it's been up and down, up and down, up and
down. You know, you lose to Stanford, then you know you crush cal then you lose to Stanford, you crush uh whatever. Then you lose their you know, you lose to Oregon State, then you beat a good Oregon team. And so I will say I think this past weekend maybe the first sign of Okay, we can do this consistently. Although I say that, but you obviously easy give the lost to Arizona Free easily gonna lost to
Utah excuse me a triple overtime. But I thought that Colorado win it really did show me something because you're on the road, you played a tough game two nights before, you're at altitude, which I think does matter. You have coaches in the league, and Steve, I know you know this, but you have coaches in the league about how hard it is to do that road trip because of the altitude. And so for Arizona to win those those back to back games, especially the second one, I thought was important.
But against your guys point, you got to do it consistently. You gotta do it more than just one weekend. You gotta do it for the next four weekends heading into the Backwell tournament. So on this team, it's like people kind of you don't say it, well, it's all Caleb Love and it's lately Umar Ballo, but you know he just got a pack twell player of the Pelly Larson to us to Steve and I, and we've had this conversation with uh. I think, you know Evan Mikawa who does that those
analytics. Pellet Larson clearly is the most important guy on this team because Caleb Love has had bad games and they've won. Umar Bella's had had bad games than they won. But if Pellet Larson plays like crap, it seems they lose every time. That's really interesting. I hadn't thought about that. I
mean, I have thought about like the Caleb Love perspective. I thought about why can't you get consistency out of Umar follow And you know, I've noticed even a guy like Keisha Johnson, who I really like, has obviously struggled, you know, at times impact twelve play. I hadn't really thought about
that, but but I do think that's pretty interesting. And I think the thing with Pella is like very versatile player on both ends of the court, right, you could be a very good offensive player, can be very good defensive player. But he kind of creates mismatches because of his size and athleticism on both ends. I'm not saying that he's an elite wing defender, but he at least has the size and the athleticism and the measurables to make things
tough on people. So that's really interesting. I had not thought about that. Evan does really good work. I don't know him personally, but I've been an admirer from a distance for a while, and if he has the stats to back that up, I would not be surprised because it feels like, it feels like he is a very important piece. I just, you know, I hadn't really thought of it from that perspective, but I'm not surprised to hear that at all. Okay, so we've got to kill other
the way. Now, let's let me ask you about love Caleb. What's your impression of him? He came in with this reputation right of being who he was, and he came here and has kind of done very well and then not so well, but very well. And you know what I'm saying, And he's taking shots from the elbow, he's taking shots from from from
Austin. What's your impression of him right today? February twelve. Well, I think you know, this is this is who he was at North Carrett Well, who he was at North Carolina was a guy who took way too many low percentage you know, high volume, low percentage shot and it didn't work. And they, you know, they they can say whatever they want to say. But I don't know if they forced him out, but I
think everybody was happy to kind of go their own directions. That includes calob but I think it also includes the coaching staff and some of his ex teammates as well. So I think, listen, he was sold the right thing on coming to Arizona. Hey, you know, we think you're an important
piece, but you have to be willing to buy in. And I do think even if you just watch them game to game, there's even just even the games where he plays, well, there's just a possession or too where you just say, oh, you could kind of see he catches the ball. You're like, well, he's not giving this up. And then he goes and he takes a bad shot, he drives into traffic, he does whatever. And so I just think it's on the coaching staff and I think
it's obviously on the teammates to kind of keep them in line. And when I think keep them in line, it doesn't mean he's a kid, a bad person about this, about that, just that like, hey, this is a team game. We got five guys on the floor that can all
do things. And I think that's the important part with this Arizona team specifically, is it's not like there aren't other guys capable, whether it is whoever, we know who the talent is on that that roster, and I think that's the important part making sure to keep some of those other guys established at this time because there is a lot of talent and it can't just be him taking games over. That doesn't benefit anybody, right, I totally agree,
totally agree. Does aar Zona have a guy that, let's say, can carry this team, you know, through the tournament or something like that. Is it Caleb Love? Would it have to be Umar Bella? Would have to be Keisha Johnson? Right, we have a repeller, you know who? Okay, you get to you get to the tournament. Now you need somebody to be the guy. Wait, wait, wait, and before that, we haven't even mentioned Kyle. Yeah. Is there a guy like that
or are they gonna need a guy like that? Do you think, well, I think Caleb is that guy where you know, if it's a one possession game, you know, it's not just that he probably should have the ball. He wants the ball, and I do think that's important and he will probably be that guy, but I also don't think I also don't think other guys are incapable of that, and so again it comes down to making sure to kind of keep him in check. Is that, Hey, five
guys on the court, and all of these guys can score. I mean, that's what makes Arizona so unique, is you know, you look, you watch some of these other teams, and let's just be honest, there's there's definitely dead spots on other teams and you know, limited offensive guys and this and that, and so I do think listen the tournament and at some point, even if you win it, there's gonna be a close game, a one possession game, and you need somebody to go make a play.
And he's probably that guy. But it also can't be that guy all forty minutes every single game. This isn't you know, Jim or for Dead or whoever at BYU. This is a team that has other guys that are capable, and it on them to uh to you know again, to keep them in line and being able to do what they need to do. Yeah. Yeah, So let's go to some of this national stuff. Because I was listening to your pocket you spent had some interesting comments on the super Bowl.
But let's tell you. Let's talk about this thing that you you brought up with Kentucky and because Steve and I talked about Calipari and John Calipari and how many national championships you should have won versus I mean he has and and you talked to spend a lot of time talking about it's not going so well from over there. I think you said they I think they've lost three in a row, three including three at home for the first time in forever. What
do you think is happening over there? Well, it's it's first of all, first time we're Marina opened in nineteen seventy six. This is the first time they have ever lost three straight at home. Now, I will say, like, you know, all three like Gonzaga, and there are variant bearing factors. They were without a big guy on Saturday. Gonzaga had sixty six base points from their big guy. I mean, you know, so there are reasons. But at the end of the day, Kentucky is like
Arizona. You have to compete at the highest level. It's not you know, you get paid a lot of money. It's not just hey, let's make the tournament and a wall go home happy and we'll get ready for next year. It's it's a week we expect to win and win big. And so when they lost, I thought it was kind of a turning point for the fan base where you could sense a lot of real frustration because it's not
like you lost to Kansas or to Arizona or whatever. I mean, Gonzaga is probably on the wrong side of the bubble even after winning that game. And so what I did was on Saturday, I just went on social media and I said, who would you want Kentucky fans as your next step coach if if somehow Calipari left, And again, he's got a huge contract, so it won't be easy. And they gave some some interesting answers, and so I just kind of spend some of the time on my show today kind
of going through who are realistic candidates and who are not? Who could who you know is the money right? Is? Would they leave their current job? Blah blah blah blah blah, this and that, and so I thought it was an interesting segment, and it was really kind of generated frankly by the listeners. So yeah, it was a Kentucky heavy show today. We'll get back to some national college hoops later this week, but kind of a quiet week in college hoops. And and that was really the story. Losing
a third straight game at home, that fan base is clearly frustrated. And it's really, by the way, it's worth noting it's really been a four year down term basically since the twenty twenty the tournament was canceled. They missed the tournament. It's twenty one, twenty twenty two, they lost to a fifteen seed, twenty thirteen or twenty twenty three, they didn't get out of
the first weekend. So this has really been a three to four year trend that I think has now culminated with, as I said, a three game home losing streak that has that fan base frustrated. Yeah, yeah, no question, it's good to see other Wildcat fans go ballistic. Yeah yeah, well Villanova too. Don't forget about Villanova now, they were in the Final four two years ago. And I don't even think they're gonna make the tournament this year for a second straight year. So it's, you know, unless
you're in Arizona Wildcat, it's a tough time to be a Wildcat. Yeah, you talked about that second level of teams, A bunch of teams with five and six losses. Arizona's in there, you know, a whole bunch of teams. Again, we always talk get to this time. You say, oh, it's wide open? Is it wide open? Uh? Is Yukon just too damn good? Is Purdue gonna you know, is Purdue gonna you know, fame out the way they do? I mean, uh, what are your thoughts right now? If you're if you were to take a
look at the NC DOUBLEA Tournament, I think those two are Listen. I mean, in a year where teams like pretty much everybody is losing at least it feels like everybody's losing like once a week, and that's not really true. Obviously Arizona swept last week. There's other teams, et cetera, et cetera. It does feel like it goes two and everybody else. And I give both credit, but I don't think either is beautible listen. Perdue has
the Demons. Everybody knows what they are, and I still do think are you going to get enough against elite teams from people other than Zach Edie consistently?
Now you can a little different. Utah shoot really good guys and that's that's not you know, everybody knows that, but you know, really, all five guys can score, they defend, they rebound, and I think the thing watching them night in a night out, they're They're maybe the most talented team in the country, and they also play the hardest in the country. I mean, they played at Saint John's at Madison Square Garden a few weeks ago and it was basically tied with like probably eleven minutes to go.
And Saint John's's coached by Rick Patino. Nobody plays harder than Rick Patino's teams, and they just hit a gear yukon where they just got to every loose ball, every offensive rebound, every this, every that, and all of a sudden, a one possession game was like eleven point lead in the span of like eight minutes. And so to beat them, I don't think they're unbeatable, and I will say too, they still do largely. Yukon has
the toughest part of their schedule left two games against Marquette. Marquette just got back into the top five today. They still have to play at Creighton, which is a top ten team, so there's still a lot of tough games left on that schedule. I don't think they're unbeatable by any stretch. Okay, we got about a few seconds. Tell us how we can listen to your stuff over the internet or otherwise. No, I appreciate that, guys.

Arizona fan when it comes to basketball, is more critical of its team than the national people. Sure. You know, if you go ask the average Arizona fan because of who they've lost to, Washington State Stanford, and you say, are their top five team, and they're gonna say, no, I don't
think they are. Depends Yeah, it depends on the loyalty of the person you have, even the person who loves them to let's go with this, go to break with this question, and we'll come back on the side talk about it. This is I on the Ball with Steve Ravera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen to fifteen. Hey, welcome back to oh here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jay. We've got our guy Kevin with the not breaking news. But we're going to discuss anything less than a final four, Sweet sixteen, first round. What do you got? What do you want to
call? Police? Two? In fact? Two? Well, four, one, seventy four, forty let us know this. I think because of how Arizona started this season, the teams they've beaten, the attention they've had all season long, I think I do believe Arizona fan will be disappointed if they don't get to the final four. Of course it's the first two,
would be the first time in twenty three years. I mean, they'll lose their minds if they if they're out at the sweet sixteen, if they get to the Elite eight, they'll go, Okay, this is great, but we have to get to a final four. And then if they don't get to the final four, they're gonna say then what was all that other stuff
about? Yeah? I think that, and I've said this, I've written this that the first first month kind of created this false cent right of whatever and how good they are, Uh, they're not as bad as losing to Oregon State. They're not as good as beating Duke Wisconsin. It's just it's just there's somewhere in between, more to the good part than the bad part. And they're good enough, sure, right, they're good enough, you
know, but they go into places that you don't know how right. I mean, what happened, for instance, what happened in the in the second half of regulation at Utah Utah? Right right? You know, they're killing them. All of a sudden here comes Utah and then then they got it. They still won the game, but it took three times do it? They're scrambling, I know, and you're thinking just defend. Well, it's not that easy because the other team is. And then then guess what happens.
Utah loses the issue the next game. I didn't know that. Yeah, that's just that's what it is. Well, it's over for Utah in terms of getting to the turnament. Well that's how emotional games are. You get up for one, that's so, what's the other. So so that lost her Utah more than the win heard Arizona up in the mountain. Wow.
Wow, But I Steve, I think I think because you know, Arizona has been a one seed in a two seed and now is headed towards a one seed again under Tommy. You know, I mean, if you're a one seed, you're seeded into the final four, You're you're supposed to be in the final four. That's what they have you. I know that. You know last year they were a two and you're like, okay, you know they were seated into the lead eight. Then they you know,
obviously flamed out. But if you're a number one seed, you're supposed to be in the in the in the final, you're good enough to get there. Here I'm looking for calls there was something else, But I do you think you do you agree with me? Do you think? And it'll be disappointed, But do you think if they get to the lead eight, don't get there? If people go, there's still a great season. Depends what they play in how they play. Right here, we got a call.
Hi are on the air and I on the ball. Hey you guys game, how's everything going, Gabe? We're alive. We're doing okay. How are you? I'm doing pretty good. I'm happy that Arizona got roast sweep and stacking wins on top of each other. This week is hate week against the dumbasses in Tempe, So that's gonna be good. Gay. Let me ask you something because we we know Gabe on the radio show and how you
can be critical of a lot of things. When you watch a game, let's say Thursday night against Utah, do you get to the point of craziness of mat or how do you get I was a little I was a little bit worried because the letting Utah come back, but thankfully they found a way to win. So but yeah, but are you angry? Are you angry when they do that? Not as much as I were losing to Stanford or Oregon State. Okay, it's not where a point where you're gonna go.
You wanna take a take a whack at that big street. Yeah, you're not throwing a folding chair through a TV like we saw a forty nine Ers fan on No. I won't, I won't, I will not. Okay, Yeah, some more thing I want to get to you. Jason Shere basically reported that Jetfish that basically had an interview with the u C A Lake with the u C A Lake job, and I'm just saying, well, that's definitely him that's definitely, that's definitely what Jeff Fish did would have done.
And two things can be true. He did help Arizona to put Arizona back on the map. But the other thing he did he really did burn a lot of bridges in Tucson. And I think, hey, Washington fans, he's gonna leave to go to Florida or to NFL job. So have at a hospt Hey real quick answer the question if Arizona gets to what would be the most uh phrase? What would disappoint you if they didn't get to the final four, they got to the sweet sixteen? Latey, what where
would you be? What's your disappointment level? They need to get to the final four or not get beat by a bunch of nerds. Let me part of it that way. Okay, okay, So no Princeton on the schedule. Well, here's another thing they need to beat. They need to beat the teams that they are supposed to be, just like they need to beat the teams in the in they need to beat the teams now that that need to be bet in the past twelve that's the that's the bottom line. So
they need to take care of business. Just focus on who's who's coming up in the schedule, in their schedule, and not not be slaped it. Okay, thank you Ge. It was usual for Colin. Appreciate you. Okay, down Arizona GOCAT, thank you. Hey. So, okay, get to the Elite eight and they lose to Houston, they lose to a Yukon, or they lose to a Kansas, Right, are you disappointed? No? What if they get it's a one shot, two shot game.
What if it's a twenty point game? Yeah? Yeah, if you get blown out in the Elite eight, yeah, yeah, you can't let that happen. So quality, quality of quality, yeah yeah, the quality of the game. You know, to me, you know, when you look at the bigger picture, to expect, not hope, but expect Tommy Lloyd to take this team into the Final four in his third year at Arizona.
Like what the hell? Right, I don't care what I mean. The program wasn't in great shape when when Sean Miller left it no question Charlett's off. You want to say, well he's he's take and he's taken. Uh Sean Miller's players, Well he really hasn't. He went and got a bunch of new guys. Yeah, you know, Umar Baala wasn't Sean Miller's player. Haitla Bloves not Sean Miller's player. Kishad Johnson is not Sean Miller's player. Even some of the guys from last year aren't aren't Shawan Miller's players.
And and when you think about the magnitude of what that would mean for him to get his guys to the final four in year three under the circumstance, you go, why would you be unhappy if he was one step short of that? Right? Well? Miller I took third year, I think it was third year, and he had Duke by the Yeah, that was a shocker. Yeah, oh Clo whoever just called police call back? Yeah, but that that was completely unexpected. It was one off. And the way
they beat Duke that that day. Yeah. Yeah. Higher on the air and I on the ball. Hey guys, how you doing, Howard? Yeah, I think they should curb their enthusiasm. I think they need to get to the Grade eight. Yeah. I think that's Yeah, depends what they play and how they play in that lead eight game. I know here we already have them in the Elite eight, right, But I agree with
you, Howard, I agree with you. Yeah, and then of course they're playing with how's money and you know, and like you know me, I'm the biggest person on on getting to to get some more bench play, like you know, here just here to push plug a guy in and hopefully do something. Did the fact that he went to eight and nine, ten deep and he did kind of a little bit, nothing did that make you happy? Yeah? Even for a little while. And it's like just on
that Utah game, I thought they were losing and they'm gonna win. It was. I was surprised because I went to bed it was too late, but I saw a triple overtime. I go, wow, that's pretty crazy. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we'll see how much Philippe and and the other guy whore rich you what's his name? You got twenty four twenty three? The international guy that I can his name I forgive not no, no Morascus mos I'll remember. So you know, those those are your nine and
ten guys. So yeah, but that's for lip I call him him. Yeah, So I I like him. He's gonna well we talked about I talked aboutim this year that he'd be an impact player. How wrong was I? How wrong was I thank you, Howard. All right, yeah, you know, I bringing that up the deep. He went into his bench. It's kind of like, I don't know if he planned it, but
it's kind of like, Okay, we're gonna need help. It was luxury that he had had good he had a good sized lead he got he got uh Martinez Martinez in there, you know, with some with some real minutes, right, And so I thought it was interesting that he did that and maybe confirmations right where that he's going to need that going down forward. Cool, Hi, you're on there and eye on the ball. Hey, gentlemen, Happy Monday. Here. I'm getting way in on this u of a
thing. I'm kind of opposite guy. Maybe not, but as far as expectations, and you know, a couple of years now, we've won, won the regular season PAC twelve PAC twelve tournament and then we flame out. I would almost rather finish like fourth regular season, maybe fourth in the tournament. In other words, in other words, final four banners to me look
a little more impressive than the regular season. You know. And I talk to my friends at work for about half and a half on that, but I you know, I get tired of kicking button, you know, the first two and then the last one just flaming out. Totally, I totally hear you. I think you're you're not any different than most fans because they've done so well and then they show up in Buffalo. Look, you had them winning to go far and then they lose then first round. I hear
you. I hear you, especially the first weekend with all that build up, you know, and I just I don't want to just say Lloyd Miller's done it. Hell, even Loot's done it. Now. Luke's got his final force more than a lot of other guys. But still, I mean, you know, in my opinion, final force kind of the ultimate because once you get in there, it's luck. Anyways, what we're rolling the
dice the last two and Miller never got there. You know, he had a couple of shots at the E eight three times and it didn't working. Wisconsin, correct, Do you have why why I got you? Somebody I thought this was made up? Did Chip Kelly really leave U C L a head coach to go somewhere as an offensive coordinator that this isn't made up? He deftly happened. He not only did he leave U C. L A to go be an offensive coordinator. He went to be an offensive coordinator in
the same conference. He's at Ohio State. That's right next year. That's crazy. Well, I'm going to start the hot rumor. I guess UCLA's looking for uh jet fish. I think that's what I'm gonna start throwing out there. Well know that they got their guy already. We'll we'll have it in breaking news here and if few minutes they've already got their guy. Okay, appreciate the thank you, the rumors that already happened, the rumors already. Yeah, you know, it's amazing to me, and well, way
for breaking news. But the short amount of time that they're hiring these really really really important positions, they're taking less time than it takes you to hire somebody. McDonald's, well, they really are. I don't know about that. I've never worked there, but they went, they went and got the guy they thought they were going to get originally, because that doesn't happen you you have the jobs that you've gotten, they already pegged you to get the
job. Steve I hired. I hired some people at my TP job. Okay, every one of them had to go two three weeks to hire them, to make sure you got the right person. They're doing this in two days. Let me ask you, well, let me ask you. You're sixty four. I think great, what were you doing when you were forty one? You doing your forty one? Uh? Thank having kids? Man, having kids. Okay, that's the last time Everzone went to the final four. Oh, Steve, come on, you know you're saying this on
my daughter's twenty third birthday. And that's how long it's been. Okay, okay, all right, we got to hit the road. We'll get coffee hours so we'll be right back with breaking news.
