This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Subscribe now to the podcast on the iHeartRadio a app just Surgery I on the Ball. Hey, welcome back to I on the Ball hero Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. I'm Steve, He's Jay. Now we have Kevin with breaking news and this is I on the Ball Breaking news on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. All right, so we're gonna go ahead and start with some

Arizona football transfer news. Former San Jose State tight end Sam Olsen is going to be transferring to Arizona. He had the fourth most receiving yards for SJSU last season and now he's joining his former coach Brent Brendan and Matt Adkins here former Arizona Wildcat nose tackle. We'll talk talk about a little bit about this earlier. Bill and Norton is now committed to Texas, joining Joanna Quina.

He was just their spring game a couple of days ago. Yeah. That that's a tough one on Bill Norton because he was a he was a big part of you know why They're defense was pretty good. He just plugged up the middle. You know, he's the guy that came here from Georgia. You know, when a guy goes to Texas, you immediately assume he's going there with some dollar signs in his eyes. And you know, good for him if that's a good opportunity for him. Texas a really good programming.

He's back up, you know, went from Georgia, Arizona back to you know a place like Yeah, but just again one of those things where the dog, right, you the d dog, ce dog, d dog. Everybody wants to be an a dog. In order to be an a dog, you have to be with the a dogs, right, And so yeah, I mean, look, I'm I mean I was it was bunned when I heard he was leaving, but not mad. He was bun He's got it, you know, he he came here and he did. You know, he did like what Jacob Cowing did, right, went to a place

that got him an opportunity. He came here, he got an opportunity. This opportunity happens to be still in college. But you know, you know state of Arizona, to go to Texas, what are you gonna do? Yeah, and you get to you get to chase that nil money and be

in the relationship with his DC. He's back in the SEC. He's gonna go over there and he's gonna, you know, he's gonna I think he's gonna have some receipts for you know, not having a chance to play that when he was at Georgia, Right, Right, I think that's what the world is gonna be about now, finding your level of competition. You know, you do be the big dog here, right, or be another dog somewhere else, right, and you'll get you better, right, big fish,

small pond, Yeah, the whole right. Arizona has also added former San Jose State quarterback Anthony garcias a round out just the roster and have a fourth quarterback to compete for any roster spots in the future. He's gonna join Brandon Dorman and walk on Coltannabomb on the roster. Another guy who's leveling up, right. Yeah, we'll see if he plays. Yeah, And then

we have some spring ball dates coming up. April twenty third is tomorrow at they're gonna play at three fifty, and then Thursday at again at three fifty, and Saturday is the spring game at six six o'clock. Right, Yeah, we gotta get somebody on this week to talk about that because we haven't done probably enough, we haven't been out there because we can't. We can't, no apologies, we just can't. We'll be at the Spring Green.

Well, well we'll come back and we'll have all the answers. Okay, and then f C two Sons women women's team is named Roberto Garcia as the new head coach and Kaylee Carter, former F two song player as the assistant coach. Did you listen to hear that? Say that again? F two Sons women's team has named Roberto Garcia as their head coach and Kaylie Carter as their assistant coach. I just got that information. Yeah, me too. I just texted Kelly, see what's going on. She didn't win. She

went this year to the first year in forever. I don't want to talk to Steve, you know, yeah, okay, three four years. Yeah, me too. I just came over knows who knows what, you know. She's got things going on, kids and stuff that kind of stuff. So yeah, well, you know, she she had a good run with the with FC two Son, so you know, wow, that's okay, interesting, all right? Yeah, Garcia has been with them for five years, and he led their youth team to five separate state championships as well,

So okay, there's some pedigree there as well. Well, there you go. Arizona Baseball is a consensus top twenty five and four national polls after joining Baseball America's and the coaches poll. Right, Yeah, it took a while. I mean they were ranked in D one Baseball, soything else you can

go through them. They're ranked sixteen and D one Baseball, seventeen by the National College Baseball Writers Association, also seventeen by Perfect Game, and then number twenty by USA Today and Coaches, and then number twenty three by Baseball America. Okay, what's the what was the publication beast here? Baseball America, Baseball America, what's is the publisher back in the day? Dude, Man, you're really gonna ask me to pull that name. It's it's from the

seventies. I know, you should have no problem. What'd you know? What you don't? Yeah, I don't, Yeah, I don't have I don't have enough because it was one of those things that you wish you when you were a kid. At least where's that Tucson? Oh maybe I can write for them. Yeah, this is when, you know, a long time ago. Yeah, I know you're talking about it. Hank, Hank. We'll get a We'll get a text here real quick. Yeah, well, you guys find that I can go ahead a little bit of softball news.

Kaya Altmeyer was named the Pack twelve Player of the Week and Reagan Shaki earned Pack twelve Freshman of the Week honors. Alt Meyer uh The earned the honors after her career and where she uh led the sweep over Arizona State this past weekend. She batted six twenty five on five for eight with two home runs. She also had a double and six RBIs. And then that was kind of most of all I had for local stuff. There wasn't too much going on locally. Uh. There was a very strange ejection today in the

Yankees game. I don't know if you saw that. Maybe the strangest one I've ever seen. So Aaron Boone, five pitches into the game, believes that the which that was thrown hit his batter. Umpire disagreed. He was told, you know, giving a verbal warning, hey no more talking from the dugout, and Boone back down said understood. The next pitch. A fan screams from right behind Aaron Boone, yelling at the umpire. Umpire turns around and a jects Aaron Boone. Boone comes out and says, I said

nothing. This is wrong like I. Umpire says, I don't care who said it. You're gone wowt me let me wow wow it was it was Wendell's stats, Wendall's stead, not Harry. Harry is like cold the hunter Hunter went. But yeah, so he umpire said he believed that a player from the end of the dugouts said it, and so that's why he said,

I don't care who said it, You're out of here. When the reality it's clear as day video you can see the fans scream and then the umpire turn around and be like, you're out of here, So defend this. He's literally directly behind. I mean, like, sorry, my serious boon through his voice, I didn't want to be there. I did you want to be there? Got called out a ventriloquist situation. Wow, that's awesome. That's awesome. All right, I thought you'd enjoyed that one.

Yet. Nelly Korda is going to put her win streak on hold. She's going to forego playing in the next LPGA event to get her body some rest. She won five in a row and two majors. You get out of here, Scotty Scheffer. You haven't won five in a row at just twenty five years old. Speaking of Scotti Scheffler, I had this. I saw a tweet earlier that I saved. I thought you might find this interesting.

Jay. So in his last five events, Scotti Schffler has placed first at the Arnold Palmer, first the Players, second at Texas Children's, first the Masters, and first at RBC Heritage. That's sixteen million dollars in winnings over just forty four days. Man. But then you know what they were saying though that if you're kind of because they're saying, well, you know, Tiger Woods and all your compare thements are like that saying if you compare the

money, you see the money he's making. Now, why you know it's that big amount if you I don't know what the right word is, but if you apply how much money it is versus what Tiger Woods was winning when he if Tiger Woods would have won in those same five tournaments, Tiger Woods would have won like eighty million scale, it up. Yeah, scale Tiger would have been worth you would have won like eighty million dollars or something like

that. It's crazy. But you know, there's a lot of talk about him, and you know, there's always those comparisons, you know, Jordan and lebron and YadA YadA, yadda, Scotti shit. Watching him play, he's just he's got that. He's he's dominating. And you know, the fourth round started yesterday. He walks out and eagles the second chips in and eagles the second hole. It's like, you guys, have no chance. Is in the hazard and still you know, yeah, I mean he I

saw him hit a shot. He had hit the ball into the water. So he's hitting out of some trees and he knocks it up next to the whole. It makes the putt, that's the one I saw, and he gets a par after putting it in the water. Yeah, that was unbelievable. Come on, guys, it's not fair. I also saw this Tucson native and free agent cornerback Levi Wallace is going to sign with the Broncos. We're moving on, moving on. Where was the Steelers? I believe the

Steelers. Steelers last year Buffalo the Steelers. That's good, I believe. Yeah, you know, keep getting employed man. One of the great stories from Tucson. Yeah, I mean old time, Yeah, yeah, yeah. A guy who just was kind of didn't you barely even get undersized. Dude got recruited and now how many years is he six or seven years? Coming from Alabama? Alabama? Right, that's a perfect example of betting on yourself. Yeah, yeah, yeah, totally don't bet on yourself, Jake,

You'll lose, you know, yeah, I know. It's even money not happening. You know, we're like eighty thousand to one. Okay. A couple of things. Women's golf. You have a women's golf. They're not doing so well. The in the in the pac TWEFF tournament. You know, it's one of those things where you know you win the tournament, you automatically get in the n C douable as you don't win the tournament, and you know you're you're at the you're at the whim of the Division one

Golf Committee. After two rounds, they are currently in seventh place. There are eight strokes out of the lead. I think I think I'm kind of a magic number you want to get to is probably fourth place and fourth place right now as U c l A at minus one, Arizona's plus eight. Well this turn, this tournament's up in Pullman. I can't imagine the weather's all that great up there. Maybe it is, but uh it's a place called the Poloose Ridge up in Uh. So they got one more day and

we'll see how they do. Well. Okay, did you just see the world is coming to this Cooper Flag? You know who Cooper Flag? Yes, of course, the Duke number one guy. He's gonna sign with Creative Artists Agency c a A as the n A l A guys, that's what the world is coming to. Well. C A is like a power agency. Yeah, and then TV movies. Yeah, so that's why we were just three four years ago. You couldn't talk to these guys agents. And

additionally everyone's wondering why all the Duke players are having a mass exodus. Well, they're gonna have less player time or less playing time, less time on the ball, and they're probably having their NILS deals possibly shrunk down to fit in the big Cooper Flag deal coming right over. And I just saw this from Sean Sharania. Charlotte Hornets are interviewing JJ Reddick for their head coaching job. Mm hmm no, but that doesn't That's what I was just gonna say.

The easiest way to become a coach becoming become Steve Curse same way T and T Yeah, ye smart. Yeah, he's very smart smart, But Steve was the same way practical a person, you know, people person. At least Steve was a GM before that, right, well, because of the same reasons he was good at the stuff. One other note this got passed today by the Division one Board of Directors. Uh, the PAC twelve is officially no longer a Power five conference. Uh, the the board moved

there. Uh, they are now considered a non autonomous FBS conference, meaning basically, there a group of five. Will they be renamed? Well, I don't know what they're gonna do. I think you know, there there's State from now. They're sticking with the brand as a you know, PAC twelve, but they're they're no longer have the voting rights that the PAC twelve has had. And the Power five conference, Uh, there's it's it's now four, there's four and six. So since then since the announcements, now

one's at Oregon State anymore. Neither at Washington State. Through the president's leaving right the president, coaches are leaving. Coach, we saw, oh, we saw. I know if you saw. Damien Martinez canceled one of his visits, the one to Kentucky. So he was going to get down to three now, so down to three Miami and Tennessee. I believe there's a chance. That's what people are saying, the saying, you know, oh, he's coming here. Yeah, we'll see. See. I'd love to

have him as an air zone man. I'd love to see that guy in the Arizona uniform. Yeah, Ago, all right, Yeah, let's hit the road. Uh yeah, let's let's uh, let's hit the road. We're gonna come back. Rebecca Kidos, the head coach at PEMA for Pima Softball, twenty six wins in a row. We'll see if we can chix it. Hopefully we don't. Hey, welcome back

to wire the ball here today one day. I'm Steve your Jay. We have Rebecca Kitos, the women's softball coach at Pima. Coach. Are you doing I'm good, How are you guys? Thank you for having me on. Yes, yes, what kind of magic is going on at Pima? What's going on with her? It's really simple. I'm not really coaching these girls that are kind of playing on their own and going base to base and I just stand there and guide them. So all the credit to the girls.

They're just playing really loosey. Come on, there's more to it than that we know, and we're trying our best. You know, we held off calling you as the streak was going on because we don't want to jinx it. So are you superstitious? Are you? You know you're doing things like getting up on the right side of the bed, putting your sock on the same foot and all that stuff, or how do you handle a winning streak like this? One hundred percent, we are extremely superstitious. I don't

even say the word. I don't know what you're talking about. We just stick to our routine and I don't think we've showered in a couple of months. So you're not superstitious. That's funny. So you are extremely supersious. So Saturday, you guys were on the brink of love losing and you found a way to come back. How was that? Well, it's not the first time this team has done that. They like to do that. They like to put a little scare in us, and they do really well playing

with their backs against the wall. And like I said, at this point during postseason, a win is a win, and they just they just seem to keep figuring it out. So we let them compete. Did I mean, did something happen? Was there a change an approach, a change in approach, a change in anything that you know started this or did it just all of a sudden just start and then snowball? How did this? How

has this come about? So? I think the very first game that we played the start of the season was Salt Lake and they were ranked number two at that point and we beat them with a freshman on the mound, and that I think kind of just opened everybody's eyes of what we were capable of at that moment. And they just they just continue to get better. They compete really hard, and I think we have a team that hates to lose more than they like to win, and I think that's what we are are

running on before this started. You guys are nine to eight. What are you thinking of that point? You know, just like at that point, we had such a good postseason schedule. Everybody that we played I'm sorry, yeah, everybody that we played in January was ranked in the top ten and we beat them or we either split with them. So it was a very good schedule to either win or lose with because we it was a good point itself where we were okay, all right, has there been a particular I

guess when you're winning that many games in a row. Everything's going well, you know, but he's been a particular area that's been you know, kind of maybe exceeded some expectations a little bit, you know, pitching, hitting, you know your defense, Uh, you know, top of the order or whatever. I mean, what's what what's got your eye in terms of why this has been happening? I think I think our team is very very young. So we have a lot of girls that are just that are just

excited. They're happy to be here, and that's the key they buy into They buy into it. A lot of the girls that we've recruited have come from South Point to be no very good winning program, so they're used to winning. So when you bring in kids that are used to winning, it sets the standard for them when to get here. Yeah, no question, no question. You're even better on the road than you are at home. What's up with that? Yeah? Yeah, you know, I don't think

it really cares where we play. We have a job to do and we, like coach Kendrea used to tell us, it doesn't it doesn't matter who we're playing. Our Our thing is always by how many are we gonna win by? So it's a mentality before we get on the field. Yeah, so all right, so give us a little bit, tell us a little bit about your team. Uh, you know who who've been the people that have sort of been key for you, you know, pitching, hitting,

defense, whatever it is. U throw some names out to us as to as to who's been really sort of the key to all of this for you this season. Yeah. Obviously, our our our girls getting all the attention right now, are are our quiet ones. Camille Zapeta is our second basement. She is on a on a hitting streak right now. We don't talk about that because I just need her to do her job. But she's our second basement, our sophomore. She's getting some real big looks right now from

how from UTEP from West Texas is number one in the country. We have Mallory our leader sophomore behind the plate. Jasmine Waddell, who is eleven and one, I believe or ten and one. She's our lefty from sen Manuel. So just a lot of good things on a lot of key players. I heard you talk about this, so maybe ten days ago, around that time that you're not doing anything coaching, you told us the same thing. But you're probably just choking of course, what are you doing or are you

just filling out the lineup and they're doing the work. To be honest with you, we have such good depth on this team. Whether it's pitching or defense or hitting. It doesn't matter what lineup I'm putting out there. It's working really hard to make a lineup because whatever we're putting out there is just seems to work. So we're just kind of running on fumes right now and riding the wave of competing. So I was gonna ask you, and then Ray is next to you, probably, but is this the school record?

All these wins for me as a head coach, it's definitely a record. The record is thirty seven. I believe that was with my pitching coach, NICKI Johnson, who was a national champion for that team at seven. Okay, all right, thirty seven straight wins. Sorry, I mean that's to have a number because you know, we all know, I mean those of us who played baseball. You know, on any given day, a baseball team just doesn't play well, a pitcher doesn't pitch well, you can't get

any hits or whatever. You know. I'm looking at these scores. You're scoring twenty runs and those kinds of things. You know, how do you avoid the whole you know, oh, we didn't nobody plays well today? Thing? We I think we you know what, we have a roster of twenty five girls. So every day in practice we're scrimmaging, We're going live, every pitcher is throwing, everybody's playing different positions. So by the time we get to a game, it's not foreign to us. Yeah, it's

just like a normal practice day. We are scrimmaging every single day. We have thirteen pitchers and we're just working really hard. Is that new? Is that? Is it a change from the past. Yes, My roster is definitely bigger this year, and we just you know, we need to we need to be able to play every single day if we want to compete in such a great conference. Okay, all right, so you've got you've got you guys are coming up with I think, did I see you guys Central

tomorrow? Is that is that who you have? Correct? We're on the road against Okay, so you're on the road for four games coming up. You know again, you know, how do you how do you keep your focus with all this and not seriously, I mean not think about a winning streak. How do you do that? It's what we try and keep it, excuse me, really simple, Like we tell the girls whenever they're getting

trying to do as less as possible for the biggest results. Right, So if we're coming out to practice, our practices are you know, they're not like in the fall where they were two three hours long. We're out here for maybe forty five minutes to an hour and just working really hard and getting out. We're not changing our routine. We're still lifting weights every every morning and doing study hall. So even I'm in a routine is key. I

think to the success on the field, we've been there. How many years have you been there? This is my fifth year. Did you kind of sense that this was going to happen or maybe longer to do, or that you were building to something like this? Yeah? Well, you know, bringing in this this recruiting class, we had a really good idea of what the goal was. Because we signed such a good recruiting class. Next year's class is even better or as good. So my expectations are through the roof.

We were waiting for this, for anticipating this. The conference are so good. Everybody we play is just dynamite. Well, I was going to ask you that, you know, the historically this has been a great conference with you know, you know all the teams. I mean Central has you know, been around for a long time. You have a pie all of these schools have been i mean historically really good. How has the conference maintained that over the years. It just because you're in Arizona and Arizona's a place

where girls go to play softball. I mean, what what's the magic there? Yeah, everyone as a hotbed for softball. So you can go from you can go to Phoenix, you can go to Prescott, you can go anywhere in the state and find good ball. So, you know, and we're recruiting against all all the schools are recruiting each against each other. So it's really a matter of time of how much you're putting out there and all that extra work recruiting, you're getting to bring in the kids where you want.

And I'm sure you have the locals who want to play for you too, because it's my understanding that a lot of the roster is built of little locals, correct, correct, And so I'm very happy with the production of our local kids. These are the ones I wanted. These are the ones that stayed home and chose to represent their local junior college. And I'm just so proud of them because they could have gone to other places and I got the ones I wanted, and I'm very happy. So how does that happen

that? I mean you have to be out there, you know, going to all the games and seeing all the players. I mean, is recruiting still like that that you know they need to see you to know that they want to come and play for you? Or is it you know, are you kind of a program that they just gravitate towards. You know, recruiting doesn't stop. And I think that's ninety percent of the job, is recruiting. Yeah, you have girls that want to stay home and play, but

it takes extra work to go out there. You're not just recruiting the kid, You're recruiting the family. You want to show them what we have to offer, all of the wrap around services that we have. It's a great place for me and we want to keep our local kids home. Sorry about this question, I should know us. Is your dad still Is your dad still working with you? Say that again? Is your dad's still working with you? Is my dad yes, my dad is a volunteer on staff.

Yes he is. Okay, did he ever go through something like this? I? You know, I after doing some research, I think he did a streak of eleven but he had some great, great teams, and his teams they went to the championship, and like I said, I would trade all of this in to win the one that counts, and that's our ultimate goal. All right, Well, Becca, know uh again, I'm I'm really hoping we didn't. We didn't jinx this for you. It's great to

see you know what you guys are doing over there. Thank you, you know, and you know, I mean, look, this town has followed Pima softball. So you've got a few games left here home games. But you're at Central tomorrow and then you're at Eastern over the weekend, right and then when when are you back? When are you back here? We we aren't back until I believe that mark against our first sophomore day against Yaba Pi. Okay, in light of s in light of saving the city water,

you might want to take a shower. Well, there's twenty five girls that have to people has the money to come, you at least have to walk you at least have to wash the socks. A lot of Victoria's secret, but at least wash the socks. Okay, at least that much. Thank you so much, and and best of luck the to the way. I appreciate it. You good. Look, please don't tomorrow. That just scary thought, because you know, locker rooms are stinky to begin with it.

If you've ever been to a hockey locker room, you know what I'm talking about. A dang. I hope you didn't become the kiss of death chain you started it because we called it. We'll see what. Well, yeah, okay, So as as she mentioned, they've got they've got Central tomorrow Saturday, they've got a double header up at Eastern Arizona April thirtieth. Steve Rivera and Jake and Salez they have their eye on the ball on Tucson's sports stage Jet Fox Sports fourteen fifty streaming live on the iHeartRadio app. Hey, welcome back to the ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jay. We got Kevin with us eighteen minutes for you guys to give us a quick call. Let us know what's going on. See how you are doing. Outside of my voice, I'm too four. Just give us a quick call. Yep, you know it. We're

we're at a point in the you know, in the year. I guess where stuff starts to slow down a little bit. We're talking you know, baseball, softball, and you know football practice, spring practice coming up. That's gonna end this week with the spring game on Saturday. What are you gonna talk about Steve Well, you had something for Oregon. Yeah, it was an interesting thing. Hannah del Gatto, the the Oregon softball player who

crashed into the fence, broke her fractured her neck and her spine. Uh not this last weekend, but the weekend before she had a They she's in the neck brace in a whole bit, but they put her in the game to get a start on senior Day. I guess just went in for a pitch or whatever, and uh and uh, you know, just to you

know, sort of a tribute to her. I guess, you know, for lack of a better word, but you know, she there's a photo of her on Twitter and she she just got a neck brace on obviously because of you know, he break your neck, you need a brace, I guess. But you know, good for her that she's a hopefully they say she's gonna have a complete recovery. He's just probably gonna take a while. Yeah, yeah, no, good, that's good news. Have we been

talking about it since it happened? Yeah? Yeah, well again, I you know, I saw it, so it was it was it was a scary looking thing, and uh, you know, and it happened, but you know, that's when you play sports man, you do things like that. And you know, she she she was giving it her all on that play and it ended up, you know, with a potentially life changing injuries. Yeah, wants to think when you're when you're on a playing field or a court and you're just you know, doing what you love and all of

a sudden can be taken away on a given day. Right, this is what happens. Again, if kids want to call, hey, that was fun with Rebecca. Yeah, you know, and got of tictions from Ray and it was a good job. Yeah, no that you know, she you know, she's but look she stepped in some big shoes, you know, with her with her dad and and uh and the whole bit and uh

you know, and he's still out there helping her. But you know, good for her that that this is you know, something like this is happening for her because she's uh, you know, she's she's put in the work and you just hope that that you know, things go well. But man,

that's that's a that's an incredible an incredible streak. Uh. You know, sure when twenty six games in baseball or softball, right, well, so many things have to go right, for you to win a game, and it's easy for just one or two things to go wrong and you lose a game. And uh and for her to you know, pull that together is a's a pretty cool thing. So good for her. Yeah, good, that's great. That's great. I'm gonna call yeah sick, this call higher on the air and on the ball. Hey Jay, it's Kim again.

Yes, sir, I'm sort of wondering what cause student to associate me with some chicken squat dude that would make an idol. He's checking on everybody. I think he thought it was me at some point. I just think you're you haven't called it a while, and I think at some point you call me cranky. So I'm I'm going back into my row decks and and checking on everybody who said I was cranky. So there you go. There's

your here's the bottom line, Steve. If I wanted to call somebody out, I'll call your show and du no. And in addition to that, you text me because you've done that, So there you go. Well you've been eliminated, Jim no longer aspect, So I want to know. I listened and listened and listened to you guys talk about the failure of the basketball team to go any further than they did. Yeah, well, what did you decide was their downfall? What aspect? Good question, that's a great

question. Let me say this, Jim and then to Jay can chime in all year and then if if if my guy here, Jay disagrees with me. I've said it all year. Two things that I was concerned about the most Bollows free throw shooting and and Caleb going crazy and not uh not hitting shots and going not crazy, going going guard in a bad game. If those two things happened, this team would not would not survive it. Eventually,

it did. It took a while, but it did. It all happened at once and again, as we said all year long, there were games that they lost. We said, if they do that in a game against a good team in the NCAA tournament, they'll lose. And that's exactly what happened. Well, where I come from, which is Indiana and basketball, there is almost a religion why you would have hardly looked any further at the success or failure of a team in an eighteen year old point guard.

Yeah, but he's he's not a tem but see Jim teams win with young point guards, especially in this day and age, where Jim, by the time you get to by the time you get to college, you've played so much basketball, you're not really he was already two years in. Yeah, two four years. He's a sophomore, Jim. Yeah, no, I I no, I he just wasn't good at the end of the year. He just wasn't good. And it's that simple. I don't think anything partly because of his age. I'm not sure I agree with that, and I

don't. I don't think he's a prototypical time point guard either. Uh yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't know. I mean, he was live it this way. In terms of guys on the team, he was the most I thought, the most well equipped point guard. Jade and Bradley pretty good. Yeah, but he's not a distributor. But he's not so much

of a distributor. You know. He takes the ball to the wall at the point, and that's the point I'm going at, And it's the point guard that distributes the ball since the floor and everyone else operates off his efforts. Yeah, they haven't had that guy since teaching mconnall. TJ. McConnell. Yeah, well, I'm thinking of Mike Baby and those guys. Well, that's a long time ago. You were a young man for that. No, you were, now you're still all back. Then, I'll let

you go. Thanks, you've been eliminating throughout the list. Yeah, okay, thank you. You know, I I don't know. I mean, I think I think Colin Boswell is more point guard than he is a two guard. Yeah, very much. Right. It's funny. He was very capable the year before, right, How could you go from very capable to uncapable in a year. Honestly, he wasn't incapable. There were just some games where he just was very big games not you know, not good well

more. I think he was more the most part, Steve, he was pretty good, uh more often than not. For sure. I was, okay, I'll go fifty to fifty on that. You can go that way. I'll go fifty to fifty because you was one a guy that was that was very good at some point, wasn't very good anymore or even halfway good? Am I wrong? No? I don't think you're completely wrong. I was gonna say that I think his game lacks focus. I think on the

or like it. You knew the talent that he had, which is what you're speaking, could you've seen it, but he wasn't on the court. It didn't seem like his game was focused on any one aspect of it. It was like, well, let's see what happens this game. And it was very clear. And they're throwing different things out of every game. So he's either gonna be able to excel or not excel because his game is not

consistent in that way. Sure, and it was very clear either from the beginning at some point when you knew he was not gonna you were not going to see the good Boswell, if he had an airball or something went bad, he was not good. Yeah, And we did have a couple of players like that on this on this year's team. To give me the other ones, I mean, I feel like there are some games where no, I don't think. I think I think there are some games where bollowed earlier

in the season. Specifically I'm talking about where like you kind of get a vibe of his effort being a certain level, or his ability to get up and down the court being a certain level against a certain tea. He was not exactly he was definitely not a shape when the start. I think, you know, as you're watching the I think there were games where Caleb Love You're like, okay, well he's either you know, mister inferno hot fire, or you're trying to get the Caleb Love who's not going to make a

three and tap whatever. So I think we had a couple of players, specifically guards, that you know, we're up and down on their ability to what would you say? And I just popped in my mind, what would you say? The biggest mystery of this team was just why they could be so bad at times, well against good bad teams, right against bad teams. I mean, what against any team. I mean, well, you

know it eventually Stanford, Oregon State, I know. But what I'm saying is, but you know they were I mean, they just that they could be so good and then be so bad. Yeah. Well, my thing is they were bad against bad teams until Clemson came in. It wasn't that a bad team. It was not a bad team. They were not a bad team. I don't know, I really don't know why the gap right, the gap from how good how bad they could be? And and again

and and as you said, a bunch of times. You know, how much of it was shaded by how well they did early in the year. Were we mistaken as to how good they were during that time? Hell and by mid December we were talking about whether the flaws. Oh, we can't find it until we found them. Then we found it. They found us. Honestly, they were big. They show themselves to us, keep working very No, I don't know, Steve, I don't know. I don't

think it was about Boswell being too young. I just think it was about Boswell not being very good as a point guard. And at the same time, there were some games where Caleb Love wasn't very good over the last few games in the season, and then other other pieces of that as well. So, and it happens, it happens. So I don't I'm not. I'm not so sure. How Yeah, it's it's hard to pin it down. I guess what I'm saying, you know, I mean the way Jim

asked a quest, what was the thing? Well, it wasn't a thing, you know, it was a lot of little things. Yeah, a lot of little things that added up to a big thing and and a loss to in the in the sweet sixteen, I guarantee you next year when Indiana plays, you're going to see a lot of people posting stuff on how he did from the free throw line. Bollow, Yeah, because either he's good or he's kind of good or not good, but he made shots. Yeah,

I really I like Bollow as a player. I think I'm unsure if Indiana fans are fully aware of like the player that they're getting, right. I think they think that they're getting a certain guy when really they're getting a different guy who's also a high quality, you know, one of the best big men in the nation. Sure, but I don't know if he's the guy that they think that they're getting. No. I totally agree that's a

good observation because we talked about that. If they're paid one point whatever, if play, if the if the internet's correct, and I don't doubt I doubt that it is, well what are you getting for that? Yeah? What are you paying for? Wow? There's all that. There's a you know, I mean that's the question that's going to be asked going forward for players where they didn't have to deal with that. Sure, I mean they say, well, you got a scholarship, you should be better when you're

making a million dollars. You need to be better than that. Well, they're gonna have, you know what, They're gonna have to deal with that. Sure. Sure. We were talking about fans being nasty earlier this year. Yeah, I mean when the more money players start making, it get Yeah, I brought that up. You probably weren't here. Then if you're getting paid money like that, do you deserve it and you're not playing well, he probably comes with the territory. It just does, sadly, but

it does. Yeah, absolutely, it absolutely does. But again, if you want to make the big bucks, you're gonna have to take the stuff that comes with it. Sure, sure, no, And then you know what, and they're gonna they're fine with it. Sure you know. Well, of course the checks are cashing and as a booster, I know you put money into it. And Cody does too. And I never asked him this question. But you put twenty five fifty thousand, and you think I

paid, I paid for this. What's my return? You know? I think in that in that sense, Steven, And I don't know, maybe if this is just how I would approach it to me, if I'm supporting a kid n I l yeah, but I'm I'm kind of like, all I want is for them to not do anything really stupid, like get in trouble, you know, I mean, if they're I feel if you feel that, if you're gonna, first of all, if you've done your due diligence on a kid to to provide some uh nil support, you're probably gonna

support a kid that you know, you know that there's you're going to check the character right. You're not going to support a kid that's likely to do that you think is likely to you know, do something really ridiculous or stupid, you know, a d u I uh, you know, a sexual assault, you know whatever, you're gonna you're gonna try and support a kid that you think has has a lot of credibility. You look at their family, you look at all those things, because you're putting money. You know,

it's an investment. And so I think a booster who does that and does this stuff for the right reason. All they're looking for is for a kid who's a good representation of whatever program they're in. And maybe they're not as good as you would hope they were going to be, but as long as they don't embarrass you, and not only don't embarrass you, but represent you really well, you know, on and off the field. I think

that's what Booster's looking for. I don't think Booster is going to pay is necessarily looking to pay a Caleb Le's Okay, I'm gonna give you this money, but you better score twenty three points a game. I don't think that's what they're doing. I think they're saying to Caleb Love, you better not get in trouble. You better go to school, do all the stuff that comes with being an athlete, and you know what, and just be a

good teammate. That's all I want from you. And I was going to say, like if I was a Booster in that position, which I was not, but if I was, I would just want to know that they're doing the things on and off the court to be the best version of them. So right, that's it, And I want to help him do that by making sure that the bills are paid. This you know, you can

go get closed whatever. Yeah, but just don't be spending all your time out and about right like like if like if you know, if you're well, if you're if you're providing an I l to to to Umar, you're

not disappointed of course I was just gonna throw something. So you're supporting n I l if you saw what the ranch and you're doing this for, and then you see the photos of him at the table, well that's that's that's up there where I said, as as long as you're not doing anything stupid, right, being a good representative, that was not a good being a

good representative of the program and of you know whoever was supporting him. And that's that's exactly what I'm saying, Steve, you know, doing something like that or like I said, or getting the d U I you know, ra car racing a car, getting shot, getting caught, shoplifting, you know, flunking out of school. Those are the things that that you know,

you watch for. But you know, if if you were if you're providing an nil money to Umar Bellow and he had a horrible game in an important time, you're not pissed at that, and you're not saying I shouldn't have every giving you any money and not sending him an apple casher question right, right? So you know, so that's I think that's that's me. Now, maybe somebody is saying, Okay, I'm gonna give you this dough but you better get you know, X X X and X. Well.

I don't know that that might be different for different programs around the country, Like if the expectations are X, for example, you might look to find a player who fits that no matter what their character is. But that might not be what an Arizona booster is looking for versus you know, any other

school. I mean, again, I don't have that money to hand out, but if I did, I'm just looking for a kid who's going to represent me, because I'm if I'm giving him an al money, I'm asking him to come and represent whatever it is, my company or whatever, and as long as they represent that well. And I think for the most part, Kylon did that whole thing, that whole episode with the the you know, was that Was that a smart thing to do? Now? Was that

a dumb thing to do? Yes? Would somebody probably disappointed in that? Yeah? Absolutely, but far worse things true you put it that way, Yeah, I mean, if you put it that way. And also, if you're giving the kid money, whoever it is, are you are you telling them this about Okay, I hope you don't do this or I hope you don't do that. What if you're not. Well, let me put it this way. I'm putting that in the contract. I was gonna say,

the contracts, Yeah, they're they're contract that. I'm putting that in the contract. I'm saying the morals clause or behavioral clause or morals clause in the contract. There are those in major league contracts. You know, you do this, you know, we get to pull, we get to pull your salary, you know, without penalty because you did this or that. Those are things are pretty standard in the contract, and I'm thinking I would

expect that those things are standard in nil contracts as well. I'm sure that Bert Lopez doesn't want t mac out there, you know, hanging out at strip clubs and you know, walking around with hookers and things like that, if he's going to represent his company. That's a bit extreme. But okay, how extreame is that, Kevin? Don't trying to gauge around over here? Yeah, forty five seconds, get out of here. But you know

what, you get my point though, right? You get The point is that you know you're you're paying these guys mostly for their reputation, and it's and and and so the reputation of your company is going to be affected by the reputation of the We Gotta Come when we have Jake on it later this week, some people says, joking, he said, we got to blame Jake because he was kind of on the initial steps of this and this is nothing what they wanted to do. This is not this isn't what it was

supposed to be. Right, all right, Okay, that's it for the day. Thank you for being here. Follow us on the podcast. It'll be up tonight. You can check it out and we will see you tomorrow.
