Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez. They have their eye on the ball on two Sons Sports stage yet Fox Sports fourteen fifty streaming live. I mean I heard radio wam, Hey, welcome back to wining the ball here. I'm fuck Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera. I have Carrie Cecil with me today. Ja's out, got our guys sid with breaking news. So this is how it works, Carrie said, will bring us some topics if they're worthy of us to talk about it, we'll talk about it. You're all like
boxers are briefs. I've been. Let's start with Arizona volleyball, so up to a rough start. They lost last night three zero to Long Beach State in their first game of the Arizona Classics. So tonight they played in Mexico State, trying to bounce back. But the transition from Dave Rubio has been has been roughing has expected that thing right right now, it has been rough. Dave. Dave got out at the right time, and it's transitions are tough. Right. We've seen it on an over different levels. Okay,
and then Arizona Soccer travels to number twenty one, good Zaga. They play tomorrow. Arizona is currently three one of three. They have three ties, so if they can get out of a win against rate team, I think things will be looking better for that. Have you met the coaches? Very fascinating, very bright, very very very tough, very tough, but very bright. Yeah. It's it's like, you're gonna play for her. I love that. And I don't know when you know, what do you say
what you're gonna play for her? Jans she loves wearing her Jordan Jordan's yes, yeah, but we had it on the show the first time. It was like they're gonna play first, She's a real deal. Yeah, I love that. And then for the Red and Blue game for basketball, Richard Jefferson and Channing Fryer said to host that, Yeah, what's that thing called the show of Forget you? What is it? It's like the spring game,
but for basketball, the Blue Red Blue game. Okay, Richard Than and Channing they have this show on the road or I can't, God, I should notice on the road and they're bringing their show here for that night. It's two dudes talking crap. I love it. It's like, you guys, yeah, I just kind of just kind of like going back and forth, and people love them because they're UA grads. But you know, Richard's a character and Channese very bright, so it's gonna should be a lot
of fun. Would be fun. Yeah, four star center Emmanuel Stephen has Arizona's final five who he's a shop blocker, rib runner. He's number ninety five and the ESPN one hundred. So if we can get another big to fill in after Balo leaves, which this should be his last year, so he can get some good experience with those European guys as well. Okay, who are the other four? Do you know? No other schools? I think Kansas was one. USC is rumored to be with us as kind of
like Sue, Yeah, I think it's USC. A couple of the schools. Yeah, so yeah, the big damn. Oh, he's a shop I believe he's a local kid. He's here, he's in Arizona. I believe he's got an academy here. Oh maybe at Phoenix. Yeah. Well okay, okay, it's funny. So with football, I remember one of my other coaches and the SEC is telling me, you have to recruit your state first. Oh yeah, without first hundred miles if you can't get the first hundred miles, you won't get five hundred miles. No, that's true.
Well we saw what happened with the previous coach. Yeah, he rumped the ball many times on locals. Yeah, whether they were going to get him or not, that's one thing. But you didn't even try. And I don't know why. We have so many talented people in the state of Arizona and multiple sports without question. Look, other schools are coming to Phoenix a lot of I agree. The kid who's now the starting for some Justisco.
Yeah, and he's just a normal dude. And you know this carry I'll ask you you not including your husband because he's he's like a walk on, but he was beyond a walk on because he had something. Well that's those guys. It's okay, everybody wants him. Now you like me, Now let me go there because they have something special. Brock Party was not highly recruited, just a dude who did his job. I love those dudes because no one thinks you can do it. Yeah, and then they do
it kind of chuck. You know who who? Dana White, He's so great, right, he has like bet against me, Go ahead. I love it bet against me Rogers did that yes? Or did he have a prest conference today? I think he was on Pat McFee I Love, and he was talking about that. He's just watch me, I'll show me, show me. I mean, that's the best thing you can do to Chuck c So it's like go ahead. He's like super quiet, you know, and then you just go ahead and just go ahead and try. Yeah,
he is pretty quiet, very quiet. It didn't used to be. No, no, I mean he's he's got a whole thing like he has even on social media that like show me, don't tell me, because he's always said the film doesn't have sound. Now it does, but it didn't. It's like people who talk a lot. That makes sense. He hates he literally he doesn't hate anyone because he's the nice person. But he like nothing can drive him more crazy. Well, if you are just talking and talking
and talking, well that's coach stuff too. Show me, don't show me, show me, don't tell me. I mean you run into a lot of coaches. They're just like blah blah blah blah blah, and they're just talking to hear themselves talking. Yeah. Yeah, I had a couple of classes with Brock. Actually in junior high he was always a great older than me. But in art and Gilbert he was always we always knew what he
had. Yeah, it was just he was under size, you know, kind of you know, a lot of people don't respect his athletic ability, but yeah, I remember he had something. Yeah, I mean his brother would just go back and forth throwing footballs in the basketball hoop and it's awesome. Yeah, not the size of the dog and the fight size of the fighting and you know a lot of those people, yeah, I do, you know, just kind of guys who just kind of showed up in a
holy crap, look at what did you guys turned into? You know, because of Steve Kerr, small little white man. He's the poster child. Yeah, absolutely, chuck two. Yeah, yeah, well if there's two posters, that's it. That awesome school down south in the dirty Tea. So moving on into uh, some Colorado Buffalo stuff. So I'm sure you guys have heard, you know, the back and forth. So Dion actually
he decided to give his entire team sunglasses during their meeting today. So I mean he was on Pat McAfee as well talking about that so much smacks yeah, I mean I listened to so, so what do you make of this situation? I just don't think you should talk about Colorado. I think people just talk so much smack about Colorado, meat included. Not like I didn't talk smack. Because if you know Deon Sanders, he is the nicest human being that you will ever meet. And this huge crazy persona like, yes,
it's a part of him. And and by the way, they needed it, I mean, Rick sort of their Colorado. They needed some, right. But and everyone's like, oh, it's all like, hey, this is this is the power five man. This this isn't some you know, smaller school blah blah blah. And he brought some dudes and and he coached them and and and people went, oh, my goodness. So this is not a surprise to you. No, because you I'm not surprised. I'm gonna listen. I don't people like Deon Sanders, You just don't count
them out. Yeah, and so and I and I don't think he has the you know, he has a little bit of like I have it too. It's a little bit you get fifteen. I don't give a fe I don't give a f I don't give it fe My husband doesn't curse. My mother hates it. When I cursed. It's like, I don't, I don't care. I don't carry on because you reach a certain ages. All I see it this way, I'm closer to death than to life. So what the other white care? Yeah, he's like I mean, Jack has
it a little bit, but he's not arrogant. He's like, listen, I don't I don't need to prove anything, Like go watch the film. Look at the guys of coach. You know he doesn't need to stand up there. So where do you fall in? Both of you? Guess where do you fall in line? Because I tucked to you what this yesterday? So you fall in line that like Dion and other coaches who use that bulletin board material to get you guys riled, or guys go and just kick their
ass. I mean, you don't have to worry about something. I wouldn't worry about it. Just kind of go beat the crap out of him. I think he used anything. Yeah, I think if it's out there, why not. They're college kids. Sometimes it's hard for them to get up for games, especially when you start off to oh, your ranks already number eighteen in the country. Give him that Carroty, you know, but it
didn't work out on ted Lasso ever. And the ted Lasso one when they show him that it's that other guy and he rips the belief thing and they show him that, and then they all go out there and they're just like absolutely insane and they have all those penalties and everything in their oh red cards everywhere. I'm sorry. Ted Lazo is like such a great show that it's
over, but like and Ted's like, don't do it. So he's more like on the Steve like just go out and play, and you know, and the other coaches are like, no, no, show him shown. Yeah, and it works against But I'm a big believer. I would I would show him. I think you get him rolled up. Yeah, well he does. He's done that twice now, but it's worked for him. Yeah, no, I get it. Yeah. Yeah. So the Washington
game coming up this family weekend. It's near a sellout, so you're looking at back that it's gonna be against Washington, which should be ranked in the top ten still, so that's gonna be a big one for the game. I think they have a big game. They beat they have a big game. Yeah, State this weekend State yep, right right, and then that's a blue weekend as well, yep, Friday, and then the Saturday of the game, the football game. Yeah. So everything's moving fast. I
think we're gonna find out a lot about Arizona. I think these next two games are are more of a getting rhythm, get ready for those big ones. Yeah. I think you're right. You gotta get you gotta get ready. You gotta play well in these games to feel good going into Listen, they play get well against Mississippi State in start. I mean, I don't know if you guys ever been there. I've been there for a game. The cowbells, it's insane. They're not so loud. I'm not gonna face
anything worse. No, not not from a sound and a fan perspective. They don't have that, and you have it outside and it's not like I mean, it's just so crazy and stark. Thought so and they and they, you know, they maintain composure. And if Jaden can be consistent, you know, and stay consistent, consistent, consistent, that's that's the whole thing. Listen, We're living and dying by Jaden. I love him. I love that kid. I mean, he has matured so much emotionally,
physically, as a team player. He's gone through a lot of adversity, had a lot of people throw a lot of stuff at him, and and he couldn't respond. And you know, I mean, you know they say the truth looks that you free. But if you can't tell your truth,
you go home every night and you swallow it. So he's dealing. You know, he dealt with a lot of personal stuff off the field, and he and thank God for Coach Fish and his family Amber just they have been like his rock and supporting them and just such a good family to them. But you know, he's got a gift. I mean, like I got text during the first quarter. You know, people text me like, why
isn't he pulling him? Why is he pulling him? I'm like, you don't pull him, No way, he's gonna watch He's gonna come back. Look at that kid. He is going to come back. And he never lost a composure. He came back every single time, and you watch his face. And there's a whole book on what drives winning. It's a book,
it's a whole series. It's called Woods Drives Winning, and it's about side there Becky Burley who was a women's soccer coach at Florida who won a national championship, and she was on it and she did a sideline cam to show that when that, when you come off the field, you say a lot right about who you are to your team and what you feel. What's his name who was a defensive coordinator doctor heat at the Saints. Uh god,
great Williams. Williams had a whole principle about sideline behavior and just like you are, you are consistent, you are non emotional and Jed it's perfect like he's not. And then yeah, I mean he's got the mother. There's things going on behind it. It's a series of it's a series. It's a podcast series, but it's a it's a video series. Oh yeah, but there's also a couple of books. But and Becky's on it and she's not at Florida. I know you're gonna find for me some timers.
Oh no, you'll find in you win you sometime it you text me. Yeah, I'm interesting. What drives winning? That's the kite title of it. Well, yeah, and it's a video series. There's something called Google. I know how to use I like that better than Chuck doesn't want to be on Google. I just forget about what the heck that you just said? What drives winning? Drives winning? Okay? Yeah, and I mean you see that something. What I was saying thinking about Jaden is why you've
seen the maturity last See it's right here. Yeah, yeah, you see that maturity level on the sidelines. You see it. You know, you guys see it a little bit in the press room. He's getting a lot more open, you know. I think someone asked him a question recently about how if he came off this year after that game, how he would be curled up in a ball or something like that. I I didn't hear it. I just saw him talk about it later and he would have right.
And now he's up there and he's got some swagger and I like it. I like what I'm saying. Okay, what else you so opposite situation in Alabama they've actually benched Jalen Morrow. Tyler Buckner will start this Saturday. So it's just a different perspective on these teams, Like if your quarterback is struggling, do you trust him or are you going to go to that? That's the whole thing. And you mentioned this white not Pool him or white Pool,
you know whatever. I still think that if they did that with Jalen he would kind of regress. Yeah, I agree with you, Scott. Four guys that are five star recruits behind the guy do. He's got like five quarterbacks. But I could be wrong because of his ego and his confidence in himself. But still it's like we compared with the Kur the two. Yeah, you know, just recent Cur and him, because if you pulled
Cur he might have lost him for the year. Yeah. I'm not saying that's the same with Jayden, but you know what, you lose something. My coach doesn't trust me whatever. Yeah, and I don't. I'm not a psychologist. I just play one here, so that's me too. I like it. I mean I don't. I don't dn't. I feel like he's just not going to ever give up. I just don't. I mean, you saw him that last play. I mean it's like he will completely
sacrifice everything to get us there to that point. I don't think you've seen the last of those issues. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know, because that's who he is. He's a he's a he's a take it. He's a risk taker, he's a playmaker. He's a playmaker make plays. You're gonna have to, you know, take some risks. But yeah, that's just the kind of player that I think that's offensive. Well, and if you look at the film, there isn't anyone open in that last
play, Like, it's not like he needs your can. He just ran. Yeah, I mean he's like he actually looks right. And you also saw in the beginning of the game where the receivers for Mississippi State totally we're reading his eyes right and he was going right and they knew and that one pick by the tight end he I mean, he was looking right at the guy and and all of a sudden, you know, all of a sudden, Jaden's eyes start to go a different way. And so you wonder,
you know, what did Jed say to him? Oh? Yeah, and then and he picks it up super quick, those checkdowns to Wiley even just recognizing while he's over there. Yes, yeah, it's huge. I think that it's that you see it. He's maturing. I mean, I mean, we're going to get the best years out of him. I mean, I think you know, this year in a year, I hope he sticks around. Yeah, I do, I mean I think I am. I mean, he's getting better. Why wouldn't you want to keep being groomed to
be better? Right? And so you know, I'm excited. I like him a lot. I think that competition coming in is gonna make him even better. Yes, guys like the moon Williams coming in fetis pretty good. Well, so having that that QB room, I mean after when we look at it when someone was here, and you look at it now and you've got three guys at some point and yeah, I mean God forbidden, you know, someone gets hurt or something like that. You're confident, you know,
Okay, do you have anything else that was big? Okay, So we'll go take the break and then come back get more with carry up, thinking about expansion and whatever else we want to talk about. He's talking about my girdle. Thanks, uh no, just kidding. Let's get it,
let's go, let's get wrong show. Hey, welcome back to Why on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera. Jay is out today, so I have Carrie Seesil in
with me today. When the great great women give me, give me a definition of your job like title probably doesn't even won't explain it, but you know what I'm saying, give me, like, tell me what you do. I fix people's problems. I navigate the narratives when it matters to marriage counselor I'm not married anymore. No, I fixed she's you know, at the at the the highest level in sports, at the very highest level. Yeah, let me ask you, and pardon me if I'm whatever with this
question. How is it? How is it you're I won't aid you because you're younger than me, much younger than me. You're in this world of men. Yeah, how is that being with that? Because a macho ego blah blah blah. How do you survive in that? If? How would you survive in that? Sense of humor? Big balls? I mean like, yeah, I mean I don't. I grew up with an older brother, right, I mean actually two stepbrothers. Yeah, I mean in my family, you got you know, you called the ball or you got beaned
with it. There was no like you're a girl, It's like and and so I don't I have I have a pretty good sense of humor, and I don't. I'm not offended easily at all. I'm sure there have been times, a few times, uh, the coaches or whomever a whatever level tried to bully you or intimidate make out you're trying to make out. Yeah,
it's happened. I mean, listen, I mean, I'm old enough that a lot of women, you know, leslie, this are a lot of people like that broke the glass ceiling for women like me, uh, in my fifties, and and I work in a predominantly male world, and I've been in lots of situations where sometimes it's just you know, dumb. I'll give you an example, right, and God rest his soul. So mister a head of a league, I'll leave his name out. Very sweet
older man. UH had the championship, the big the big dinner for the league championship was in New York and at the very back and this is probably two thousand and two, maybe two thousand and three. And I go back
and they're smoking cigarettes and they're sitting in this uh in this suite. And I go in and wearing a fur coat in New York the middle of winter in January, and I go into the suite and what was the Waldorf Astoria And you go through one room through another room, and he's sitting like he's the king in the back, smoking cigarettes with other people. And I have my little shit too, its name was Max, with me a little puppy, so you know, you can imagine it. I'm blonde, I'm cute.
And he says to me, I knew, I lat you. You gotta make muff And I was like what And I looked at my go mister Soanzo and I just laughed because it was hysterical, right, and I but and I knew he didn't mean it. I mean, he's like an eighty five year old man, and I I knew he didn't mean it, And so he was just trying to be funny. And well, I don't think it's a different era. I think it's like, you have to understand how people mean it, right, No, no, no, well he comes
from a different it comes from a different era. But it was still a funny joke. I mean, it was still a funny joke. He's not he's really not talking about my personal body parts. He's just trying to be funny. And so that's funny, right. But I said to him, you gotta be careful because people like you know, women out there, they're gonna take your money if you stay something like that, right, And so we live in a world now where you just can't do that anymore. Got
a call, got a call. You're on the air and behind in the ball Hey, it's Billy Bill. I gotta tell you, this is one of the best shows you guys have ever had. I think you should have a weekly spot on here and come back every week and talk to us. You know, it's really my brother calling. Name is Jeff was my favorite Wildcat football player of all time. Oh, I got a question for you. Yes, he said you were off again, on again with Chuff,
which kind of surprised me. But uh, because he looks smarter than that. Oh, I love it still. You know where we're taking right. I want to know where you were when he intercepted that ball in the end zone against the Issue. And I was in the stadium. I know where I was. I was in a stadium. Good question. Yeah, I was there. I was there. We you know I was there. And so I'm it's so amazing. So many people come up to me and we were there. We were there, and Jeff van raffahorse by the way,
I knew as well who was the quarterback? And and so I mean, I love I love Chuck, And yeah I was. I was in the South war zone and he picked it off right in front of me and we could see, you know, Chuck was never known as a speedster. He's so slow. We could see that he had a clear path to the end zone and we could not believe he made it all the way. So, I mean, one of great It's a great memory for my whole family and all my friends, and so thank you. Thanks for coming to the show.
You're awesome. Oh I love first of all, Bill, thank you for remembering and thank you for following the Wildcats and supporting them and saying such nice things about my husband. And it's a lot of the reason that he chose to come back, and you know why why we love chews On so much. So thank you. Well, we were so excited when he came back. We talked about it all the time. So thank you so much. Well, hopefully we won't get fired. Thanks appreciate right by. Bye.
Yeah, hey, if anybody wants to call, we have some time here and and after this break. So five to zero four, six seventy four forty so people are paying attention. I love that's Bill's my one fan. He's probably one of the guys who read my one book. That's funny. I thought he was friendly with you. What was wrong with Chuck? I thought I was smarter than that. Oh I love hearing that too, right, yeah, someone said someone one of another listener says, twenty thousand
people were at that game. Just how's how it felt? It was pretty pretty pretty loud, right, yeah? How called crazy it was? Let me ask you a dumb question. A dumb question. Oh, there's no dumb question. This is an interesting another call. Hi, you're on the air. Are in the ball? Go ahead and tuck color? Hey, yeah, No, I'm the other fan. No, go ahead, yeah
yeah. On the other go ahead and turn. And I wanted to let you know that I wouldn't wart with you because I see how you wouldn't flirt with somebody who has, you know, a significant other who got banned from the NFL, like imagine that. Like I just wanted to say, I'm ther other fan. I love that. What's name? I can't even tell you because I'm I don't want to you. Okay, we'll just call you John. We're gonna call you John. Okay, John. So I love
that? And are and do you follow the WorldCat still? Yeah? Yeah? Yeah? And I was there when when he went his one hundred. I wasn't used to have his thing called the not whole section, yeah, which is like a dollar. So I was I was a kid. You a dollar A game to go Chid was pretty amazing and even after like the coolest part of the whole expansion me because I was a kid was afterwards, like everyone worsh the field and they didn't want us messing up the grasses.
Yes, so they put on the sprinklers because I moved the sprinkler heads to hit the chief feat. Yeah. I mean, do you remember Larry Smith by my mom being on the field. But that was one of my things. I'll never forget my whole life. And I love that your mom took you. Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah, that's every game that was darklin. There was beeing the toilet paper to the top row and up the hundreds and every pore touchdown and throw the whole roll down to the bottom here.
That makes me happy. Well, I appreciate you. Colin John with air floats around your name, have a good weekend. We say thanks, thanks for calling. Hey, we got some time. It looks like we might get some more calls, so five two, four, one, six, seventy four, forty you're gonna stay with us still five Yeah, maybe we'll get more calls. That would be amazing. Yeah, look at you call on up moving on costs. Give a chance to talk to Karry,
ask her some questions. And I also not an expansion expansion. Do you it's gone crazy? Do you think it's gonna get any crazier in five years, ten years. Yeah, I think we're just moving. I think it's all moving into probably big four, Big four, big big four. Well yeah, I mean here's the thing. I would have said, it's going to be two super conferences, right, I think mister Sankey and and then you know how Kevin Warren did USC and UCLA at the Big ten and now
he's at the Chicago Bears. And from sure Petiti, who's wonderful man. You know you're seeing them grow the Big ten in the SEC. So I would have said it was going to be the Big two. Right. But Brett, your mark at the Big twelve. Man, does he have some swagger? I mean he didn't. He came in he came from I don't know if you followed him at all, became you know from he came from NASCAR, He was in you know, the NBA. He went down to
to Dallas to become the Big twelve. Hold on, hold on though, talk about your mark, call us back, call us back, mischief. So your mark, right, commit sure, your mark? And that's where you have a is heading. He's got so much swagger. I love the Big twelve. You got the call coming back? Are you on the air and I on the ball. Hey Steve, this is done. Hey Don, what do you have? Hey? I just want to ask Harry if on one of her situations that she had to clean up, did you come
in and were you just like utterly disappointed in the person? You know, like I thought this guy was better than that. You have to you know what, what's your name? Don? Sorry? I didn't I didn't remember right out of my one brain cell. You know, it's such a great question. And I've seen so many people in situations where it's so easy to judge them, and I have to take a step back and say, wait a second, how much you know poop? Have I done in my life?
What I wouldn't want a microscope on me? Where I've said something stupid, I've acted stupid, I've done something detrimental to someone else. And I always try to not be that judgy person. And I say to them all the time because a lot of these people it is embarrassing. I mean, read the headlines. I mean, look at you know, the thing that's going on with you know, Michigan State and Meltucker. No one wants to name, you know, the word masturbation associated in all with them, right,
But in the grand scheme of things, who hasn't done that? And so I mean not on the phone or whatever. So I try to have grace and when I when I deal with a client, unless it's I don't take on clients as I said before, that are that kick dogs that hurt people and things like that. If it's an error in judgment, and it's it's something that you know, you could see an average person making that mistake, but they're because they're so high profile. I believe that grace creates space,
and that space allows me to do my job. Is that help? Yeah? Fair enough? Yeah? I always just thought it would it would how difficult it would be, and even nandall because that person is going through such a hard situation where they know they messed up and then they don't they don't know what to do. Can alleviate that situation for themselves? Yeah, I mean listen there, they know they missed up and they're embarrassed. Right,
it's all, it's all the same, right, we're humans. And so they don't sleep, they don't eat, they're probably losing their job, they're losing their reputation, their neighbors are looking at them. Their pastors are looking at them, the rabbis are looking at him, everybody's looking at them. They know that, and they're living with that their own shame or their own disappointment, and I'm sure there are levels of grief of which they go
through for their own behavior. And so I try to be a person who's supportive and a fixer than someone who's piling on. Yeah. Yeah, but I won't work with someone who's a murder or rapist or you know, kicks dogs. I just won't. I don't, you know, I just won't do it. Thanks, Don, appreciate you. Bye. Don, keep listening, bear down. Yep. Don's one of our great listeners and callers to hey, we got to take the break. We're losing time right here,

exes at OS. It's Steve Rivera and Jaden Salvins. This is I on the Ball on Fox Sports fourteen Different. They welcome back to one of the ball here on Fox Sports fourteen. Cookie. I'm Steve James out today, got our guys sid work on the board and we have my special guests Carrie c Sir Cecil. Yes you're well, let's finish this conversation of what your humor, just your thoughts and help savvy he is. He's got a swag. He's got swagger. I love swagger. He's got a big personality and
he came out of the gate swing and saying we're open for business. And at a time when you know Bob, mister Bolsby who was a commissioner before, he was so amazing, such a nice man. But you know, I mean it's grown into such a big business, right, it's a billion dollar business. You need businessmen. And the PAC twelve was like, oh no, I mean the Big twelve was like, oh no, we're on our way down. You know what's happening. Oklahoma and Texas left for the
SEC. It's like, you know, I mean, so you can see you see that same thing. You see Texas in Oklahoma go to the SEC from the Big twelve. You see the PAC twelve, USC and UCLA the crown joils go to the PA, to the Big ten. And so now you have these two commissioners, George and Brett, and look at how they handle it differently. Let me let me ask you so and you can get into us as detailed as you like, because you're smart. I don't need to tell you this to couch your comments. Once USC and UCLA left,
yeah, I was sitting in my garage. I didn't even tell my husband when I knew. Well, okay, so did you how soon after or did you think that the demise of the PAC twelve was possible or not possible? It isn't about the schools leaving. It's about the media rights, right, So the media companies Fox, ESPN, they'll pay a certain amount of money for every forever, you know, every conference I gets, and I
gets divvy it up between the schools. And so when the media rights deals, like the schools grant the rights their media rights to that conference, and then the big companies come in and like Foxes the head is Air Shanks and Mark Silverman, brilliant, amazing guys, and you know you have ESPN as
well. And so I think that at that time, even after USC and UCLA left, the PAC twelve had the opportunity to do the same deal that that right you are Mark renegotiated, which was about thirty million per school. But the PAC twelve overplayed the hand I think they got. They got messy with with the people who pay them. You never want to bite the hand that pays you, and they made them mad, and so they just said
okay bye. And so then it's like, oh my gosh, I gotta there's not that many companies that can pay that, and you know, ESPN is Disney and they're laying off all these people and all this stuff, and the two biggest schools in the media market. They should have taken that deal in ran and they didn't. Who who dropped the ball on that. I mean, that's that's a commissioner's job. Okay, that is the commissioner one job. It's like that their job, and you are immediately came from MGM.
You have media experience. I mean, like your job is like to ensure the sustainability of those institutions and those tens of thousands of student athletes that they can receive an education and play their sports. And so I think, you know, if you can end listen, George is a nice, nice man, and it was bad for the PAC twelve would happen with UCLA and USC And you know, I'm a PAC twelve girl, but I worked for the Big ten commissioner at that time, and I just feel like it just
got so messy with the hand that they fed them. That was the demise. It wasn't about the schools. And I think any institution president, I think whether and I can't speak for the UA president, doctor Robbins, but I think everyone wanted the PAC twelve one hundred and eight years. You know, I wanted everybody wanted it to stay again. Other but at the end of the day, when you're talking about if your schools in debt, if
you. You know, whatever it is you have to provide for, you have to do what is best to ensure that those student athletes, that the divers, the track runners, the golfers, they have an education. Sure, that's what we forget. We are higher learning. It's about education. It's providing academic opportunities through sports. And if you don't have the opportunity because you can't pay for those things because you're in the wrong conference, you've got
to get out. So let me ask you. A lot of talk has been made about, Okay, you've taken care of the men's basketball programs, you're taken care of the football programs, because that's the center of this universe. What about the Olympic sports people? It's it's that they're they're the ones that are going to suffer in this travel, all this stuff. What do you feel? I mean, it just just depends, right. I think
it's super complicated. I think there's gonna be really complicated for for schools that are out west, going you know to they're you know, going to Rutgers, you know, Rutgers or wherever. I think that's going to be challenging. I mean, you have revenue generating sports like football and men's basketball where they're on a charter where you have you know, maybe uh softball or whatever, they're on a commercial fight they're go and get home till three four in
the morning. Right, So it is up to these conferences and they're doing a heck of a job of scheduling and looking at these matchups. But you have to understand these schools were already playing out west once a year. So you're adding one more game, right, they were already out of conference. I'm talking about all of the sports I'm talking. I'm talking about broadband sports, which is Olympic sports, plays and competes out of their conference and travels.
Yeah, so you're just adding one more competition. Okay, I don't know what to change challenge you with, so I won't no, no, no, I mean, but now you're doing it more often because you're playing. Yeah, you're doing it more time. What in terms of travel, Yeah, I mean, like if you're if you're aren't you going like in basketball, you're going to play here. You gotta go get there. It's a eighteen team conference. Yeah yeah, I mean, you got god.
But it also depends on the scheduling, right, and and how you're going to schedule those those teams and who those teams are going to play? You know what I would have loved too, I've seen and what I like about you know, Oregon and Washington going to the Big ten. It's you And I know I know that they are saying, there's oh, no divisions, right, and I don't. I don't know for sure. I think the
commissioner for a TV said that there was no divisions. But I kind of like the NFL model right where you have the AFC and the NFC and then you have you know, AFC West. Yeah, yeah, I like that model, and maybe we end up there. We don't know, right, we don't know. Okay, anybody want to call? We have some about six minutes. Maybe you get a last phone call in I've wanted to ask you who who? I want to ask you who the pain of the neck is to work for? But who the fun people are to work for?
Who are the fun people to work? Yeah? Who are like who's the you know, hey, he called me and I get to do this? Oh goodness, gracious, Uh, there's so many. I mean, I really like all of my clients, you know, in the past and and and now because you don't just kind of bad. You handled a good time. I handled a good two. I'm a brand builder. I do a
ton of media trainings. I do you know, podium protocols, public speaking, you know, one of it. You always know it's a good client when you're like, hey, you want to go get a drink when you don't have to, rightially, yes, yeah, yeah, you want to get dinner? What are you doing tonight? I mean there's media people like that, like I really really like you know, like Adam written Burg at
ESPN, I think he was in town. I was like, hey, let's go to north you know, I'll come up and get you, you know, and normally you don't have to do that, right, And so there's a lot of I've been clearly lucky. Yeah, right, okay, Uh, there was another thing that we wanted to talk about. To see, we've gone the gamut of a lot of different things. Oh so, so I just read or recently that you were like the top fifty one of the behind the scenes people. You know, I've been really really blessed by
some of the people. You know, Sports Business Journal was it was game changers article, game changers. The issue right of the most powerful women in Sports and that was interesting and really fun because they did a huge event in New York and met Life Stadium. It was killer. And then you know, John Wilner, uh did the Top twenty five people in sportsmen and women
behind the scenes sort of just like you know, making stuff happen. And I was very honored to be on that list because I mean they're commissioners and they're you know, women like Patty Phillips who runs college, you know, women's leaders, and Hillary and Karen and Endeavor who make all the deals happen and all the money. I was, you know, and I was a commissioner of the pact. Well you know, so so I got it sucks
to get old, you know. I have the same thing sometimes. Yeah, subject, So I get a text here, how much to fix my marriage? Something this nummy? How much I don't fix my marriage? Would I make a mistake? That's how much they're asking you. How much would you charge them? But you don't handle marriages. I don't do marriage. Well, part of it is, you know, I mean these relationships, I don't. I don't fix marriages. But I would tell you to be
honest and open and put it on the table and tell the truth. And you're willing to work on it, then that's great. And sometimes you aren't, and but the truth is that you're free. So there you have it. That would be my that would be my advice to you. Okay, it's been so fun. Yeah, so three minutes. We still have that for maybe one more topic. Bowl games we have a lot of them, right, Yeah. We have some key ones for the playoffs. Your thoughts
on those. That's the New Year's Eve six, so you know that's those are the really big ones, right the road to the championship. And I mean I love the bowl games. I mean you have the Fiesta Bowl here in Arizona. They have a new executive director, Eric Moses. He is so really just new year for sure. Yeah, he's been there. I think he's been there almost a year maybe, And I mean he's super super smart. And I love the bowl games because they give opportunities to student athletes
when they're in town. But like the Fiesta Bowl isn't just a bowl game, right, They have multiple events. They have the parade, they have the Guarantee Ray Bowl, they have all these different things, but they're these bowls. All of them are about giving money to their communities, right, like the one here. Yeah, well yeah yeah, they Arizonable and Fiesta Bowl has which is for teachers and all these things. They pour, you
know, millions of millions of dollars into the community. And I like it because no one knows how to do a bowl game like I mean, like the Fiesta Bowl or the Rose Bowl. Right, it's just so fun. You have thousands and thousands of volunteers like that as well. They're Yellow Jackets and the Red Jackets and you know, all these kinds of things. So you know, I like to see it. There's some talk in the CFP. We have CFP meetings six week and uh, we'll see what happens.
And I think the bulls are a big thing. I think, you know, if you move to a bigger playoff, more games. I think there's some people that are saying, oh, we should put some of these playoff games on the campuses. But I can't imagine. I really can't imagine a small city at having the amount of bandwidth. Yeah, just I mean just even like picking people up at the airport, right or all of these things that people don't understand. The thousands. Oh, it's a major thing,
and so I hope that never ever goes away. I love the tradition of the balls. Sure, but there are people who don't want I mean, they want fewer games, fewer Bowl games. I used to say, well, listen, I get that. I think we're saturated. But if we're just talking about the New Year's Eve six and how it acts the yeah, the road to the playoffs, I mean, I just think there's nobody who does it better. I mean, you look at the sitest bowl of the Orange Bowl, you know, the Cutton Bowl, Combo, Yeah, Rose
Bowl. Yes, I like the other bulls. But yeah, I was gonna say, we only have a minute. Jay Harpson this all the time, he's he's never got to the Rose Bowl. Nobody, here, are we done? We're gotting? This is it Arizona never getting too the Rose Bowl? What the hell? Yet? Yeah, look at you and there's always the same like in the Bible. But god, you know, you're like, oh this is all this is bad stuff happened. It's like yet but god, you know, I mean, listen, we're on the up
swing. Yeah, I don't count anything out yet, Okay the optimist, Yes, Kerry SISI thank you. It's a lot of fun. Steve, who's your best guest so far? Like you've had all these like experience forever, like what you got twenty seconds? You better h carry cecil. It's a charmer. Look at us going. Hey, thanks for callers. It's fun. Yeah, thanks for calling in. Everybody will see you tomorrow or no Monday, gotta come back Monday. We should take it out with like
Baird. We gotta go and seek it tomorrow. Thanks everybody. Yeah,
