Transcript

Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez. They have their eye on the ball on two sums sports station, Fox Sports fourteen fifty streaming live. I mean I heart radio. Arm Hey, welcome back to I on the Ball here on Box Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jay got out Jason with some breaking news the balls. You'll get it, man, You'll get it. Yeah, okay. USC athletic director Mike Bone resigned today from his position as a

criticisms over management. It's a tough job. Yeah. Well, um, you know, it came out that he resigned and people are saying, did he resign or is he retiring or what's he doing? His statement thought he was well, it was well the announcement from from U um uh, the USC president said he resigned. Um. So as the day goes on, Uh, then we get um uh Ryan Carty, who's been on our show. He covers the USC for the La Times. Um. First he's the

one who broke the story. And then he comes out with the story saying that yesterday he reached out to both Mike Bone and to the USC administration to get comments about uh not a study, just an examination of the athletic program that aspects of it we're going to be not favorable toward towards Bone. And then today he resigned. So now there's all the speculation. There's that this report is coming out that's got all this stuff that Mike Bone might have been

Party two, might have done whatever. Um. The firm that did the study or did the report was led by a lawyer whose specialty is sexual harassment abuse. Uh, you know, cultural diversity issues YadA, yadda YadA in large organizations. So obviously the speculation has become is that something is about to come out about stuff that's going on in the USCCENE. That program. So that program for years now has been almost um, not unbearable, but tough

to deal with. Right. Tell me, you know when when Mike McGee was there and then Lynn Swan was there as ads, they just went and got these former legendary athletes to come and run and it was run awfully. Um, a lot of bad things going on. The program went completely into

the tank with Lynn Swann as as the guy. Um, you know, so Mike Bone apparently you know, I mean he came, he got Lincoln Riley to me, he's the guy that came to your party, set the house on fire, and then left right Mike Bone because he came in, you know, he got to you know, he gets the USC into the Big ten, creates all this chaos. Um, and now he leaves before us even goes to the Big Well, I thought you you could be describing

the last Pack twelve commissioner. Wow, that there was that too, But no, you're you're right now he started this or I'm wondering when all this was happening when you were talking about it to me earlier. Um, how and this is not likely. How USC and UCLA may come to a point of regretting the move minus the money, because you know, you go for money and you say, oh, they're sparked, the sparks, the sparkles and the and the fun, and then you think you get here and you

take was it really? But then you put it into operations. Steve, We've been saying that all along. Wait until they have to start doing this, and let's see how much they like it. Yeah, you know, and and again these guys I listened to Pat Forty and Ross Dallinger, Dan Wentz, we're having a conversation about this in the context of what went on

at the ACC this week there were seven teams. It said, we want more money or we're gonna probably lead, you know, And and they're saying, why would North Carolina want to blow up all the tradition, the everything that Scott would Duke and North Carolina State and you know, basketball and all this stuff for fifteen ten million dollars more? You know how why would they

want to do that? And it's the same kind of USC and UCLA blew up the Pac twelve for the money, for the money to here without even thinking, Okay, it may be fine for football and basketball because they may be able to manage the travel because they'll chart it all that stuff, But what about everybody else? I hear you. I mean, the money is talking, and it's always gonna talk. But eventually you get there and say,

you know what, the grass is not as green. Well, we'll see how much they like it. Well again, we'll see how competitive there their sports remain or are. I mean, look, you, UCLA hasn't been good in football in a long time. Where did bone come from? Where do you go? Where do you come from to get come? Um that I don't know, I can look that up real quick. But you know. I mean, the grass can't always be greener. And the step that that that that the uh USC and ucl LA you're taking, that's crazy.

Yeah, it's crazy. Okay, Jason, let's go okay. UM Arizona baseball news, UM, the Walk has beat USC thirteen four in the first game of the double header today. So that's over all right, that's ain for them. Okay, business there UM. For the track and field team, UM senior Jordan Geist was named was named the Pack twelve men's Field Athlete of the Year as announced by the conference today. So another award for him, Male Athlete of the Year. I mean, guys been guys been

money right, so throughout his whole career. Yeah, before he goes on, let's circle back to Mike Bone. He played football at Kansas. UM. He's gonna be in his fifties, sixty two, sixty two. He's sixty two November of nineteen sixties birthday, h'be sixty three November. Played football at Kansas. He was a quarterback UH as late as nineteen eight quarterback in eighty two, played baseball Lady two and eighty three. UM. He coached a year at Ohio. A couple of years at Ohio coached football and then

uh, he's his administrative careers. He's been through Air Force, Colorado State, Idaho, San Diego State, Colorado, Cincinnati, and then USC. He was he was ads at most of those places. Okay, um, some more m Arizona baseball news. I'll Chase Davis moves into tie into for a tie for third third place in program history with this thirty six career home run. So there's a couple of a couple of interesting stats on that one.

You got that right? You got Ko Romero, the kid from cdo who I mean, if Arizona's got assumed that Arizona gets into the Pac twelf tournament, they would have guaranteed three games there. They've got two more games left with USC, so they got five games with USC. Kiko Romero has seventy seven RBIs. The Arizona season record is eighty six. He's got a shot at that. Yeah, he's got a shot at that. Ron Hassey uh has eighty had eighty six and eighty four. Terry Francona eighty four and

eighty one. Oh no, that's when they yeah, eighty four, then eighty one. Ellen's enter at eighty one Mike Senny, Jordan Brown had eighty, Shelley Duncan seventy eight, and then Kik Romer nicking Town is seventy seven. He could get that m definitely. He's only really well, so he definitely challenge UM. Some recruiting news. Isaac Wilson, four store quarterback from Utah. I'm younger brother of Jezz quarterback Zach Wilson. UM has Arizona in

the top six school choices. Interesting, so he's he a twenty twenty four recruit? Is that? What? Yeah? Okay, so for next year? All right? You know, it's the quarterback thing is just fascinates me that they go get it, try and get it. A great quarterback every year. I'll send you have four great quarterbacks and what the hell's gonna happen there? What's the line from Rich Rodriguez? I like to collect quarterbacks and how many of good ones do you have? I'd like to click marbles.

None of them are shining you though. Yea, he had a couple of good one who was really good and that was kind of given to him. Yeah, that was Solomon had a great year. First year he got kicked in the head and that was that then bj ankor who you had to apologize to you, I did have to continue, Well, well, yeah, I mean, how did that go? So? Well? That was going

fine until rich Rod wasn't here anymore. All Right, my brother will go to his grave believing that that that uh, the year after rich Rod got fired, that everyone who goes ten and two if rich Rod still here? Oh, how was that grave? Well, that's not Sports Illustrated covered really screwed things up to what Yeah, but it was that. But they had, you know, the whole everything, screwed everything up there, you know, because you know, yeah, I don't want to talk about it anymore.

Okay. Some women's golf. After three days of competition, the regional round of the twenty twenty three NC Double A d Ones Women's Golf Championship has reached its end um. Thirty teams, five from each of the six regions have qualified for the finals, which are scheduled four today until the twenty fourth at the Greyhawk Golf Club and Stout Stay, Arizona. So UM Arizona UM.

It's one of the team schools that qualified as for the championship. I think it began today, right, yeah, it begins today until the twenty fourth. How they did? Okay, go on, I'll report back on how they did today. Okay? Um five walkouts UM from Arizona Softball were named to the nfca A West teams and now some Thursday by the association. UM. Carl scoop In, Ali Skaggs, al Blaze Brigner, Dakota Kennedy, and Olivia DiNardo all earned second All Team West honors. So they have

talent on the players. They just could get a pist. They had no pitching, pitching bad, pitching bad. Yeah. Rain Man is no Jason, Come on, Jason, I'm so disappointed to know you right now? Oh my god, Hey you got some homework? Did you gotta go? You gotta go see rain Man? Watch? You gotta go watch movie rain Man? Okay, you know wait, do you know who Tom Cruise is?

Yeah? Of course, yeah, yeah, you're definitely okay. Yeah, though I can appreciate that the NBA is considering changing it's All Star for All Star game format from the current player draft to the Eastern versus West conference, um, amongst other concepts they're still discussing. Um, but yeah, they're looking to change the format. So this should just kill the game, I think, yeah, do you watch it? I didn't want watch this

past years, but I sometimes do watch it. Yeah, just because it's kind of cool to see all the you know, best players in the league come together, you know, kind of just you know, yeah, I mean it's kind of cool because you know, it's rare to kind of see all them in one like game together. Right, So it's good for fans. Nothing too serious, So yeah, UM's so what else? Uh?

San Diego Stage University concluded Friday that there are no findings against the former Buffalo Bills punter matter reason, a master conducting any investigation into the allegations of the you know, um sexual that we talked about that a number of times. That hold just how crushing it is for your career or your reputation when this happens, whether it happened or didn't. Because there's still an ugoing investigation, Civilly Civilly, and now his career's toast, right, maybe you know it

is somebody gonna go get him. I don't think they will until something is resolved with the civiliz. But then it's like, well, he was a punter. There's gonna be another punter like him, come along. Yeah, you know, but they spent a lot of time with him, so and it drafted him. It was a good player. Yeah, so yeah, it's unfortunately it's tough, all right. Reporting back on women's golf. Um, some teams are still out on the course. Arizona shot a four over

par today. That puts them as of now tied for fourteenth. Um. The leader is Oklahoma State at eight under, followed by Wake Forest at seven under. Then there's a pilot of teams between three under and four under and four over. So. Um, but there's currently in fourteenth place, you know, um, not out of it, but they got to play better for sure. Okay, Um, well that's all the breaking is. I've I have So, Steve, did you did you in your days of playing

baseball, whether it was high school or whatever? How many home runs did you hit over the fan on a big field? Did you hit anything? I was a double in a single hitter. Yeah, I was a double in a single hitter. Aaron Judge just hit seven homers and seven today. Yes, yeah, he's on a tear. I saw seven homers and seven day. Yeah yeah I saw that yesterday when he had six. Uh.

Yeah, he's a huge dude, is this Stanton still up? I probably the guy never played yeah, because yeah, no, this dude's unbelievable. M seven homers, yeah, question zero. I hit one in the Little league like it was a twelve year old and a few was a twelve year old. UM Pima Baseball is down seven five in the bottom of the seventh to UH to Salt Lake Community College UH in their winners bracket game in the

in the District West District Tournament of the Junior College Baseball Tournament. So UM Scottie Sheffer leads is tied for the first in the in the PGA Championship at minus five. He's sort of the odds on favor to win. That damn thing makes me mad. My boy, Xander Shafley, um got close, he got near, he almost got to even par and then he yeah, it's one of those things. I'm I got up and he Shoffling is one

of the early early players. So I turned on the TV and he's getting ready to hit a ball, and they showed a score up in the corner and he's one over par. Well. He he was far over at one point yesterday. So I'm like, all right, he's back in this that hole he bogied. He missed like a the proverbial two foot pot. It was like a four foot pot. He lips it, gets a bogie and then double bogie's the next hole. Did what I did, hit it into the sand and didn't get it out on the first try. I'm like,

I can do that. I can do that, And so he ended up four. He's back to four over today. So he's a fifty first. And finally, I guess a governor wants the Coyotes to go to their state if nobody wants him here or apparently well tamp doesn't want him, right they they voted that if you have no place to go, on him here. Right now, they're playing in a in a in a not even a minor league arena. They're playing in a five thousand seat a su hockey arena,

college hockey arena um. And so yeah, I mean, I can't imagine that they're gonna stay in because where are they gonna go. They're not gonna go back to Hila River, right They're not going over to the Footprints Center where the where the uh the suns are? That was the whole reason they built the arena down and down in Glendale and then they went over there, so I can't imagine where they're going to go. They say they're looking for

another place. Somebody throughout the idea of going over to wild Horse Pass, you know right there, the two O two and the ten that the casino, and tell them because they're planning this huge entertainment, some build an arena there and they'll coming place. So I don't know. The hockey in Arizona just never really made sense to me. No, it doesn't to me either, but it's pretty popular, as we all know. Okay, let's go. We gotta get the Jason. We're gonna have mister Fisher coming in coming

in about three minutes. All right, we'll be right back. Brought to you by the Southern Arizona Business Coalition, Dreamy Life, I Mean My Heart Radio WI. This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fittings. Hey, welcome back to our on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Stevie's Jake. Now on upon we have Jake Fisher forward us a football player now or one of our big sponsors. Jake,

how are you? I'm glad Friday. How are you good? You're busy? It must be busy, always way too busy. That's good. It's a good thing, especially when you're in business for yourself, right see alternative Yeah hell yeah, yeah, absolutely. I haven't had to really go and look for business or lately. It's been really nice, very good, very good. So, Jake, I don't know if you've heard Jim Brown, Hall of Famer, all time great running back died. You know, we

were talking about who were the icons of our time? And even Jim Brown was even a little bit before my time. But who are some of the guys that are in the Jim Brown category? For you? You're what, you're thirty two, thirty three? I mean I'm thirty two. Don't put another gear off yet? So who who were you know? Uh? Jason over here, he's I mean he's like modern day right, he's talking Lebron and Kobe. Who are the guys like that? For you? And whatever?

Sport? Basketball? I would say Lebron and Kobe. That's a really good one, just because I was I don't really remember, you know, getting to watch Jordan play in the peak of his you know, his career

play. I was, you know, I was basically, yeah a fell though six championships, I was, you know, between two and seven, so you know, I didn't really get to watch it and actually comprehend it necessarily when it comes to football and my guy Gronk, I mean I got to, I got to, you know, watch the greatest tight end ever in the history of the NFL, and he was, you know, at

practice with me. Um, and then I obviously we saw what he did when he went to the Patriots. But um, a guy Tom Brady, you know, just guys like that, Peyton Manning, those guys are all awesome. And then you know, obviously Jim Brown with the off the field stuff, I mean he was he was an icon as well. So, um yeah, I mean that's that he passed away. He lived a hell of a life though, he sure did. He did a lot of stuff.

Sure yeah he did. Yeah, anything in baseball probably not. Did you see that your guy, Uh, I think he's a friend of Matthews, is it Matthews from from your area, played linebacker. I guess at uve. Um, yeah, it's gonna be good doctor pretty soon. Yeah. I mean I don't even know if the dude sleeves. I mean, he always had the best grades. You know, he was a hard worker. And it's nice because you know, obviously he went to uh Ironwood Ridge and then I got to, you know, play a season with him at

the UVA. So and he got to go to the fiestable. I mean, what hasn't the guy gotten to do it? That's pretty cool. So people are born with it, right. You know who who was it was the aerospace engineer that played David Roberts. Dave Roberts. Yeah, yeah, Matthews. So his churst name Jake, Jake Matthews. Okay, yeah. He was a smart dude. Yeah, and then he's just I'm done with this. Yeah yeah. And he's also a really good dude. So not only was he smart, hard working, but he's a really good dude as

well. And he comes from a good family. Cool all right. So the other big news of the day, and again I told Steve, I said, this is this is the guy that comes to your house party, sets the place on fire and then leaves before the fire engines get there. Mike Bone, the athletic director USC who engineered then moving to the Big Ten, has resigned. He's leaving USC before US even gets to the Big Ten.

I mean, what kind of crap is that. It's almost like he went into uh, you know, to make a big splash and then retire, you know. I mean, heck, I understand leaving the conference because you're gonna get a lot more money, but I mean, dang, it's gonna suck not having the LA schools in the pack. Yeah. Absolutely, Yeah, this is I posed this question to Jam. At some point, do you think that at some point that they'll say, you know, what the hell do we just do? We had it made where we were,

Why do we move over here? I'm not sure. I think the brand for SC football and the brand for UCLA basketball is going to be okay, but I mean, man, having to travel like to play Rutgers, I mean that's gonna suck. I just you know, you have the LA schools, and normally I think that folks from LA because they have such perfect weather growing up, you know, watching them have to play out of Rutgers and it's going to be you know, Chili is gonna be ice cold. I

just don't know how that's gonna fair for those guys. But you know, I think in basketball, UCLA's gonna be fine. Football, SC's gonna be fine. They're still gonna be able to recruit the heck out of Southern California. And who knows, it's going to be more of a national brand now because they're going to be in a bunch of other, you know, different parts of the country when they're playing, So it may even boost recruiting. Because I didn't cover you when you played the full time, Um, what

was the what was the travel like for you? Where did you absolutely hate to wake up and say, oh God, we've got to go here today? Utah, maybe you know because I had a I had a couple of cracked ribs and I had to wear you know, one of those uh one

of those chess guards or whatever, and it's like super uncomfortable. And then we get there and it's like, you know, there's like fleet and it's just cold, and you know, every time you get hit in the ribs and it's that cold out, you lose your breath and it's like trying you know, plus they had a lot of really good players that year. And um, you know, I think the other one that I just hated going to would probably be organ as well, because there are a couple of times

we played there where it was snowing. It just you know, before it would hit the ground, it would turn into water and just you know, but it was just always so cold up there. I would say one of the cooler places to play, though, you go up to the University of

Washington. The only time I hated going there was my senior year because if there's a to do, like a time lapse of what the rain looked like and people had to take off their visors because the rain was so it was coming down so hard and the wind was blowing it right in your face and you can only see, you know, ten to sixteen yards in front of you. Well, let's talk a little bit about the travel jake, because you know, that's been such a big topic because of this move by the

school. So a football team. I think people don't realize it's it's a it's a commando raid, right. You fly in the day before you play, and because you're chartering, you come home after the game. But even that has to be hard. And then if you think about USC having to go to as you say, Rutgers or Penn State or even you know, Ohio State, I mean, how hard is the travel even when you consider

that you you know, going to UCLA or USC wasn't that far. I mean, but it's still not fun, right, Well, it's it's entirely a business trip. I mean, you don't have time to do really anything yourself. And then as soon as you get done with a game, you know, like I remember vividly after one of our organ games. I swear I might have been concussed, and we had to wait at the airport because the plane I was supposed to come in and get us the re engine failure,

so they had to bring another plane from Phoenix. I think it was Phoenix anyway. So we were in the airport three or four hours and my head is just pounding and the lights just killing me. And then we don't get back to campus until like four am. And then you have to turn around and you still have to just you know, school work to do, might have some sort of cram course, teaket to the next day. It's

just it's sometimes the flights and just the schedules in general suck. Yeah, No one talks about that part of the job exactly, No, seriously, I mean it is you know. I mean I got a chance to go on a you know, on the team plane for a as a as a quote unquote booster to Oregon State, right, and yep, we fly home after the game. We we got we walked into our into our house at six o'clock in the morning, and I'm like, yeah, I'm like no, I you know, I wouldn't want to I would want to do this,

you know, five or six times a year. Yeah, that organ trip. When we landed, the sun was coming up. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean yeah. And for the freshman it's even worse because they're gonna have you know, tutors and stuff that day between you know, ten and two, so it's like you maybe get a couple of hours of sleep. You're all beat up, and you know, like me, I

had to do it and my head was pounding the entire time. So you know, it's just it's not fun all the time, and you're not even making it and il money exactly right, right, Yeah, And it was after a loss, like you can put up with it, but after a Telby when you when you lose, then you have to go to that crapt suck. But I mean, let's take your example. Let's say you play Penn State. You play him at best case scenario, you play him at one o'clock in the afternoon. Penn State time, game is done, you're

done at five. You head to the airport at six oh no, so about seven maybe seven seven o'clock you get on a plane. So that's four o'clock you know, local time. And then so you know what a five hour flight you know, I mean you're getting home at midnight. That's a good and that's it. That's if it's a day game. Right, Let's say you play one of those night games out there. Holy hell? Oh

yeah no. The travels no joke. And you know, to be one off with you, I really don't feel bad for those schools that are going to be traveling now, just because, like I said, they get to get and I owe money. They left for more money. So you know, good writtens have fun traveling the Rutgers and playing in the snow. So Jake, you're a realistic dude. I've known you for a long time.

So at what point after your season because I know you you probably want you to come, you know here though the NFL that you said, you know, Okay, my time is coming gout and I can move forward, you know what. I kind of knew as soon as the draft came and went. I had a couple of teams that I'm not going to name them, but they are now my two or three release favorite teams. I roved against them all the time. But I had a knee surgery right after the bowl

game when we were down in shree Sport. Two days later, I got my knee worked on. The first time I was able to actually run, or that I tried running was literally the day of our combine. Like it sucked. I couldn't do anything, you know, during the offseason. I couldn't go get working with any of the coaches, couldn't do any of that.

So as soon as I ran like what I ran, because it was the first time that I had run since my knee surgery, I was like, oh, yeah, I didn't do well enough, They're not going to call me back. And then it appears, you know, like like I said, a couple of teams after that they said they were gonna, you know, draft me in the sixth round if I was still rounded, you

know, none of that happened. And then, you know, a lot of the h a lot of the phone calls and the tech messages and stuff with my agent started to fall off a little bit, and so I told him I saw the writing on the wall. You know, I was just going to go ahead and and move on and start trying to make some money and go from there. Yeah stuff, Yeah, no, it is it? Was it hard? Or was it kind of like? Okay, I'm

done? I mean, how tough was it? It's hard. I've been playing tackle football since I was seven years old, so of course it was hard. You know, It's like that's something that literally your whole life revolves around for all of that time, right. The only reason why I, you know, went to college was because of football, and so it's just, you know, it was just time for it to you, uh, you know, move on to the next chapter. Now you sit by the

pool with a nice old dog and a great wife. Blow is me absolutely absolutely love you? All right? So you pay much attention to the NBA, sorry to say that more time paying. Are you paying much attention to the NBA? Yph No, Whenever whenever they get to this, Like I'm the guy, and you can ask my buddy that. You know, he's over at the house right now. If I watched the game, whoever, I want to win. You know, during the NBA season never wins.

So like I'm sitting here like I'm gonna jeameson if I turn on the game, and I'm like, you know, I'm stuck to the phone watching just I would like to see Lebron get one more. To be honest with you, I think that Yo Kitch is gonna be the face of the league for the next five, six, seven years, So I know he'll get one eventually, but I'd like to see him. You know, I think it Flit's not right right now. I mean, it just doesn't look the same, um, But I want to see him get one more. I want

to see him go against the Heat again in the in the finals. And lastly, maybe uh Tommy Lloyd and criticized all this time he can't get recruits, can't get recruits. He got a couple of Europeans and may maybe might get to send a Yo State kid. You have to get the same year the State kid. I mean, if you look at the whole you know, roster or going to be more athletic. We're gonna be bigger, We're gonna be tougher. We're not going to get bounced out by Princeton again because

you know, we don't have guys that can get in the lane. So you know, now you're going to have decent shooting. We're gonna have toughness, rebounding, athleticism. And I like the two guard lineup because both of those guys are pitbulls. So and then you know, you gotta remember the guys that are coming back from last year, They're only going to get better. And I mean, if we can get one more shooter or one more

wing in there, you know, I like the roster. I think the only team that's really going to give us any trouble next year, and I think that we're still going to beat them because we have better coaching. Is that c But you know we're not going to be getting beat you know, one hundred to ninety five anymore. I think they're We're still going to be able to score, but I think we're gonna be able to lock people up.

I realistically, if they get the kid from San Diego State, I mean it could be a top you know, fifteen defense and then remember how fast they run. So I mean we might be putting up better numbers next year, but we might be holding people to a lot less. So I just got a text from somebody and I know who you know the guy and I know the guy. Oh oh, I won't say who it is. Icon's grown up O J and Muhammad Al. I think Muhammad Yeah, so you know who it is that Muhammad Ali, of course, of course J. Yeah. Until

recently. You know, it's funny because I think we've talked about this before, but you know, when Muhammad Ali first became Muhammad Ali and all the antics that came with that, I didn't like. He was not he was not a guy. I didn't like that. I didn't like the taunting and I felt like and even at that age for me, which would have been in the you know, i'd been in you know, eight ten, twelve

years old, you know, I didn't like that. I didn't like the what I saw I thought was disrespect when really he was just trying to put on a show. Yeah, right, and and and he was putting on a show, and obviously it worked, you know, what he did to make himself the the the icon that he became. And then I do remember

watching I do I vividly remember watching O. J. Simpson play. Yeah you know I'm watching, remember watching play at USC watching play for the Bills the year that he went for two thousand yards and in the whole bit. Um, so you know, I you know, those are two guys. Although those guys, they weren't my favorite guys. I consider them icons of the period. But neither one of those guys were like my favorite athlete.

I'll give you my three just because you do not gonna ask me. Muhammad, Yeah, guess as a kid, uh basketball, doctor J Baseball, Pete Rose, Pete Rose, I want to I want to see maybe Johnny Bench now because Pete Rose I don't like anymore, but Pete Rose. Those three guys, yeah yeah, And my guys were again as as with you, you know, tied to the to the Dodgers. I loved guy. You know, Sandy Kofax, very first Dodger game I ever went to as a kid, I saw Sandy Kofax pitch and I was, you know,

disappointed. I mean, I was only seven years old when he played his last season, but I remember watching him and I remember hearing him on the radio and all that. Um Johnny Unitis I mentioned that before. Um, you know, he played into the early seventies quarterback for the Colts, won a Super Bowl but lost it probably the biggest loss in the Super Bowl ever when they lost to the Jets, and that ultimately led to what the NFL. Yeah, sixty nine. So there was the only time that I can

remember crying at the result of a sporting event. I actually cried after the after the Colts lost to the Jets. Well, you couldn't cry too many times after the Dodgers didn't give you one for thirty three years. No, I didn't. Well I know, but I mean even when they went to some World Series they just didn't win. But I didn't cry after any of those, you know, and I was young. I mean, they were

in this World Series in sixty five, sixty six, seventy three. Anybody anybody in basketball, Um, I'm like, I loved watching Doctor J Michael Jordan, but that that was when I was a little older, younger in basketball probably not. I love the Harlem Globetrotter. I thought those guys were cool when when I saw them at the arena. Curly Yeah, Curly Neil and Merril Arts Lemon and those guys. I watched their cartoon at But those

guys were just fun to watch. They weren't like icons to me in terms of you know, great athletes that I loved watching them win championships and things like that. Um, you know, I Lee Trevino, I loved watching him golf. I would sit down and watch Lee Trevino play golf, you know, uh back because he reminded me so much my dad. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, funny guy. He and my dad were the same guy as far as their their bodies and their mannerisms and the hair and

they and stuff. And I think it was because the Lee Trevino that my dad started golfing, which really was why I started golfing. Okay, so not Kai Kai Rodriguez Chechia. Yeah, No, I loved him though he was he was a character. Talk about I do the you know, I make a putt, I waved the sword and I you know, stick it in there, you know, sheath it. Just so people I knew the

name, am I just I know? You just did? Yeah? Anybody else want to call us, let us know or text us and let us know who you guys are or women if you if you you know, back back in those Days two. Nancy Lopus. Yeah, Nancy, my dad loved us one because she was a good player, because she was this man. Yeah, he loved her. Yeah, yeah, he really really liked Nancy Lope. He thought that was the coolest thing that she was, that

she was good. But uh no, you know, um, and some of those people are I think are were my favorites because they were my dad's favorites. Like, I know my dad loved That's how I know my dad loved O. J. Sampson. I know my dad loved Jim Brown. But it's how your influence brother death. Yeah, you know, my dad loved Johnny and iis and you know, I mean again back in the day, but back when people really didn't have two TVs. We had two TVs and my dad would monopolize them on a Sunday to piss my mom off.

Yeah, we used up too. We put them together, you know, I put them together and kind of put the antenna right. Yeah. Well we had you know, you had that egg box not on the floor, and then we had we had a portable TV on it on wheels, you know that he would wheel into the room and on a Sunday, my mom didn't have TV to watch because my dad would do have the two d I'll tell you funny story and I'll embarrass my mom a little. So early last

week or last week, she she has a big screen TV. I just get it from Christmas or whatever, and she she had two dudes bringing her on one of those old TVs, like a twenty thirty inch TV big box. When I'm thinking, Mom, what are you doing? What are you doing bringing this in? Um? No, it's not for me. It's not for me, it's for somebody else. That's Mom. You have so

much junk here. That thing doesn't even work. I don't even work anymore because you don't have to cook at the K because it's gonna be like a flower plant. Now, I mean, what the hell? You know, when you get older, you want these old things because it remind you of the good old days. I'm thinking, you, come on, Archie, Bunker's not gonna come on this TV. What are you gonna do with it? So it's in her ports sitting there, and I'm thinking, oh god,

now I'll have to find a way to get rid of it. Honestly, I don't know what to tell you. I don't know what to tell you. But yeah, I mean, you know, I'm not joking. I love my mom, but come on killing me. That's too funny. It's way too funny. You know, how did you see like a night tea bird or or or Mustang from sixty seven but it's all beat up and you said, God, I wish I have that car because I'm gonna fix it up, and you never fix it up. Yeah yeah, oh yeah,

yeah, yeah, I don't like if I live. Oh my god, that's too funny. It's way too funny. Oh god, Oh here's oh, here's called my brother. My brother just sent over a picture of himself with doctor j At. I'm sure it's a pact off tournament or yeah, yeah, I think it's pack off tournament. I got my son Adam and I probably the same tournament. We got a picture of doctor j H in the hallway that he was there that year. Fantastic kid was in the

skid plain. I don't I don't remember. I don't remember it sometimes because he's older than us, so his son would be Yeah, I don't know, I don't know. Doctor Good. Yeah again, I mean that that guy was different. Oh yeah, he was Jordan before Jordan was Jordan. There was. It was awesome. There's a this picture keeps getting posted on

Twitter. It's an overhead shot of the basket, okay, and it's that one lay up where he liked underneath underneath the basket and he's like he's in the air, his head is about even with the backboard, his hand is sticking out holding the ball. The ball is essentially out of bounds. There's three guys in his way, and yet he made that goes to be a reverse lay up on that and the pick. The caption on the picture says, look at this picture and imagine that doctor j made this shot and that

it goes in. Yeah, just like his one where he goes in on the breakaway. Yeah. Yeah. I mean he was Michael Jordan before. Michael Jordan was again a guy that a guy that you would sit down and watch him play. In fact, I'll ask we have four minute of stuff to who and I probably talked about this before, who's the guy? Not now that you would have paid to go see play in any sports and spent some money to get the ticket, you get a ticket. I wouldn't done

that to go see Jordan play. And I never had a chance to do that. Yeah. I spent a lot of time with I mean Steve Kerry, Yeah, I mean he you know, he came through Phoenix with Chicago and stuff, and I wasn't interested enough to go see him. But I kind of kicked myself and there was a there was a thing on Twitter about that name an entertainment or sports figure that you kick yourself for not ever seen or an event of not ever ever seeing. What about you? Oh?

For me, probably Lebron. I've never seen Lebron live before. I was in many NBA key games not doing well. Took all those three. Every time he took a three last I said, please take another one, Please take another one. Yea, his legs are gone right now. It were a louds to night. So those threes were just like you know, front

Ram side of the rim. Yeah. The last time I paid decent money to go see somebody that I was just in town with the buddy was Nolan Ryan a few years back, where you know, it was just one of those things that you never know what he was gonna come up with. Yeah, because he could have thrown a no hit. No, I you know what I I I that's a good that's a good one because I built a summer around a Dodger game. The Dodgers were gonna play the Astros, and

you know I was built my summer around this game. Well it just so happened that it lined up and Nolan Ryan threw against Fernando No really, yeah, wow, that was I mean, it was like, man, did you keep the program? You don't do that? I do I just do stuff like that. No, I don't have that. That would have been fun. But you know, we sat, we were in the front row in the upper deck at Dodger stating behind home play where you could see how

hard Nolan ry through and you could see how hard Fernando did not. But you saw a screwball. Yeah, and that was that was That was. That was a one of those games that I wish I would have lasted three hours. Eighty four eighty five. Yeah, I think I'm gonna say. I'm gonna say nineteen eighty him before he started beating up on Pictures, Young Pictures. Yeah, I was before um um um um. I know the name, but he was the White sox um. Robin Ventre beat the hell

out. Robin Ventur had the gold Church against Nolan Ryan. But that that was one, but you know, going to an entertainment. One, Earth Wind and Fire came to Phoenix like in nineteen seventies nine, and it was when Maury S. White was still with the band, and I didn't go see him. I didn't have the money to go see him. I think tickets for like twenty bucks. But it was in Phoenix, and you know, I was in college, didn't have the money to go go to that.

But I thought he'll be back or they'll be back, and they never came back with him when he was still with the band. First time I started Winning Fire, he no longer was with Philip Billy and with it was Philip Bill and I actually went to saw him in Phoenix because I was growing up now and I had money, and yeah, we'll never got to see with more fla. Yeah, that's that's one that I kicked myself for.

And the other one is I had a ticket to Game seven of the two thousand and one World Series and I didn't go because I had worked the Red Blue game. Okay, I gave my Game one to my friends. I went to Game one of that. I had a ticket to Game seven and did not. Okay, guys, that's a good week. Thank you, Jackson Jason. Nice job. Man. You gotta go see Forrest Gump and go see who was a rain Man? Right? Forrest Gump skipped out? Okay, Forrest Gumps one of the best all time bust movies. I saw

it. What have you seen? It wasn't that? Yeah rain Man? Yeah, I'll check that out. Wow. Yeah, Oh, gotta know back Doctor Jay's kid was playing for CALW What was his How come we didn't? I think his last name was Irving? No, we could have been a cow. What years this would have been? I mean they were played there. The tournament was in Vegas, because that's right, in the last ten years. Yeah, yeah, we'll have to look that up. All

right, let's it's a good week. Thanks everybody for being here all week. We'll be back on Monday and heading towards a Memorial Day weekend. Right, all right, we'll be back and see you one Monday. Thanks for being here.
