This is Eye on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez Sound Fox Sports fourteen fifty powered by Nova Insurance Services and Sure Your most Prized Possessions katz R two SAD at iHeartRadio Station. Hey, good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to Eye on the Ball Hero Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, He's Jacin Zos. Our guy Juan is in today for the first couple of hours, for today. You're in today, right, not just for the next couple of hours. Hey, no, two to the room. Were you

kod that last night? I did? I did, walked in the building because we got there, laid we parked, parked down on twenty second Street because I had to go get a haircut right after the show, and then so I didn't get there on time. You paid for the haircut? Where did they cut their hair all over the place? Man? You should see it. Somebody could have made a rug out of it. And so we got there. It was the top of the third inning and walking the door.

And as we're walking up the ramp at zero zero two outs top of the third runner on base and as soon as I sit down, Guy goes yard two run Homer, another base hit, another another two run, Homer got another run. That they're down five nothing and we hadn't even had a hot dog yet. And so that was that. Chappelle asked you not to come back. I think Chip Hale would prefer that they didn't come back, and we are not going to come back. We're gonna we're gonna order some

pizza and watch the game at home. So they have a chance to win. Yes, yes, they do have a chance. Ran into our buddy Vic up the stairs and he obviously snitched me off. Is you know as soon as I got there that the Arizone started losing. I got a texture him. You were not even in the door. And all I know is I went to three other games this year and they won all three, and even one of them when they were down a couple of runs in extra innings

that came back away. They were not as important as last night. They were not. They were not. They got two more shots at this. Just got to win one. Okay, so win one. So we've taken away at least maybe a breaking news thing from you, but it needed to be said, yeah when we need to cover that. Yeah, okay, So Friday we'll see if we can get through this. So okay, I'm sure Juan has the controls ready for us. I'm ready to go. I have a question for you. Oh go. Have you ever been arrested on

the way to a round of golf? I've never been arrested, Thank god. I was thinking about that as we were talking, because we talked about this to this. Yeah, yeah, you have, but I wasn't arrested. I was just in I was in handcuffs once, so that's different. Yeah, I was never as as as as a as uh Danny Ocean said at the beginning of of Ocean's eleven, I was never really I was never

charged. So in your points thing where you have to get points for handcuffs so that you didn't get arrested, right, I haven't been arrested, but a lot of times they asked me if you've ever have you ever been handcuffed? And it doesn't it doesn't. It doesn't differentiate between hand being handcuffed, you know, by a cop, you know, being handcuffed by your girlfriend or your wife. Yeah, just have you ever been handcuffed? We didn't

have a uh A check, what do you close? We didn't have a clearance check people here at Fox. No, No, they no, they did not do a background check. Well I don't have a record. I don't have a record. You're making it public. I I never even went to juvenile court for anything, not even because they didn't find out. Your dad did? That was your juvenile You know, if my dad had ever found out that I had been handcuffed, he would have taken me to jail

and and shoved me in the door and said to keep it. Always told us, did your dad did tell you this? If you ever get arrested, no plan on, plan on spending the night in jail because I'm not coming out. I'm not coming to get you until you've at least spent the night. I've never done stuff like that. Did say that name? We were warned. We talked about food, but what's there because in the army they'll make you eat whatever, you whatever. Yeah, but yeah, we

were all told that. You know, you ever get arrested, you're staying the night. Okay, So go ahead and tell the story. So this morning situation with a Scottie Scheffler, the world's number one golfer at the golf course at Valhalla. It's in Louisville, Kentucky. He's arriving at the golf course. There's a wreck right near the entrance, and unfortunately somebody got killed. There's a fatality. I think somebody got hit by a car. Yeah,

so there's a fatality. So the cops are directing traffic around, trying to get you know, people around and whatnot. And scheffer comes driving up and he needs to get into the golf course obviously, so he was trying to work his way through. The cops are trying to direct him to go somewhere else he wanted to go where he wanted to go. There was a confrontation of some sort, as he said in his press conference, a lot of chaos. A cop ended up, you know, grabbing onto his car.

Scheffler kept driving and apparently dragged this officer and he eventually got stopped and they arrested him. He was was taking literally handcuffed and taking to jail. There's video of him being handcuffed in the whole bit and put in the back of a car. He's charged with a felony along with a couple of other misdemeanors. So he's got like three or four criminal charges against him. Goes

to the jail. I mean through the whole deal. I mean, there's his his his booking shot, his mug shot, he's in the orange jumpsuit, the whole bit. He talked in his press conference about the fact that he's sitting there in the booking room and the ESPN is on television, and he is seeing himself on television being arrested, and you know, the words getting out about him. He eventually got released and he made his tea time. So did he's finished? Yes? What did he score five under?

Party? Well, he's yeah, he'shot, five undred party Lincoln exactly exactly. You know, if somebody made the point that if you can get arrested, booked, taken to jail, spend the morning in jail, get back to the golf course, uh an hour before your tea time, and still shoot five under that golf course is just way too easy, too easier. It's what's there's a phrase in horse racing, a bad day the good the track is better than a good day of the dolphine. Exactly. You know,

a lot of a lot. First of all, it's been it's been the subject of a lot of funny stuff on where did you want to go. I'm not sure where to go with this other than there wasn't a gender here. Well no, no, I mean it's not. It's the big news. That's the biggest news in sports. But you wanted to kind of no. Well, I mean, you know, we were talking off air, and I'm just saying that there are certain, let's just say, certain types of people who, if they had done the same thing, might have

been in a lot bigger trouble. The scottis Cheffer got it. I don't know when I saw this this morning. I'm thinking circumstances of events. It was early in the morning, right, uh, and dark in front of a country in front of a country club. He was in a marked PGA car. That's what I was talking to that. I don't he was in the car that was And not that they need to know who he is, not that they didn't know who he is, because I'm not an advocate for

that. Uh, there're kind of been yeah, yeah, you know right, And that's why I'm not gonna say what time and circumstances will you get in trouble? I doubt it's well, look, I mean he'll get you know, he'll probably get a ticket right, he'll get a misdemeanor or something like that. He's not gonna get a you know, one of the charges that one of the charges is a felony. He was a cop. He's not gonna get a felony out of this. He'll probably get a misdemeanor.

He'll have a record of that, he'll pay a fine. The cop may sue him, who knows. I don't know if they're allowed to. I don't know. I don't know if they're allowed to or not. It's part of their job, right that they're dealing with this stuff. I don't think. Yeah, I mean, you don't get to see a guy that shoots you, right, but who knows? You know, and and you know, you or I or anybody else in that situation where you know you're gonna

go through the same thing. Looks he's not a horrible guy, right, you know, they don't want to pin a felony on him, but they're also gonna want a record of this. So he'll get a misdemeanor or something like that, failure to comply whatever it is, right, and and he'll he'll maybe go do you know, he'll pick up some trash on the freeway, one day or something like that, and and it'll all be over. Do you remember, well, we we've dealt with these solid lives. I

remember something with uh. I don't even bring it up to minor. It just happens. It just stuff like this happens, unfortunate. But he it was a good day at the the office for him. Yeah. Well again, you know, people, he's gonna be first, He's gonna be the

butt of jokes for a long time. There's some funny stuff there. There was somebody put they said, picture of the the arresting a picture of the officer who arrested Scotti Scheffler, and it was a you know, ah, you know, like a police officer portrait right in front of the flag with the uniform on, but it had Rory mcroy's head. And then there was another the one that I was laughing at. A couple of minutes ago. Somebody posted, I'm gonna say there's a picture of Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman

in Shushank Redemption, you know, sitting next to each other. And some guy said, I'm gonna I'm gonna tell my son this is Tiger Woods and Scottie Scheffler. Stuff like that uh, you know, just just funny, just you know, goofy stuff like that. You know, and I watched a good chunk of his press conference. Look, he's he's not happy it happened, he's embarrassed, he's you know, he feels bad that he did this. He's pointing out, Look, whatever happened to me. Somebody died

there. So let's remember that. You know, he said that he's handling it about as well as you can. He talked about it. Now, he didn't talk specifically about this is what I did. He didn't do any of that, but he talked about the experience of being taken to jail, being in a jail cell, watching himself on TV while he's in an orange jumpsuit, the whole bit. You know. He was very apologetic, and you know he's gonna take he's gonna catch some crap. You know. Locker

rooms for athletes are places where you do stuff like this. You pay a price for it a long time, especially among this group of gentlemen's group right right, talking crap to each other or whatever. Yeah, so it'll be it was weird. I saw the same thing you did this morning. I see that couldn't be right the headline. You have to click from the story and see that it was right. She's going, no he got arrested. I said, no, he didn't stand. You just hit the ball right

now. No he got arrested. Yeah, yeah, I had got to go do it. Look at it for myself. But you know, an unfortunate incident. I'm not gonna say, you know, stuff happens, but it's you know, stuff happens, and uh, he you know, he got he got himself in a bad in a bad way, you know, all the all the like ESPN's and they're calling it a big misunderstanding. Well, it's hard to misunderstand when the cops tell you don't go there? You

ever have you ever? Have you guys ever done that? Because I know the cop you know, when your are directing traffic and stuff like that, and and they tell you don't go until you go, And have you every guys ever been in trouble like that? No? No, you know, because if they say, look, I've had two brothers were cops. Right. If you know, if I ever did anything that embarrassed the hell, they would shoot me. Okay, so you know I never did anything like

that, but you know I've did. I've always you did it before they became cops. No, well a couple were cops. Well here's the deal. As soon as on that situation I told you about the situation. I we were messing around with the guy's car and we're playing a prank in the cops sauce. And as soon as the cops came after us, we stopped. I didn't you know, didn't even think about running ornything. We just stopped. You know, we were we were in my car. We stopped.

The cops shining lights on. He told us to get out of the car. We got out of the car, and you know, I did exactly what the cops told me to do. And anytime, you know, in a situation like that, that's if you do that, you're usually usually okay. Yeah, usually okay, not always, because we've seen situations where you beat your complying with everything that they're telling you to do, and bad

things happen to you. But usually if a cop says, don't do that, and if you don't do it, you're gonna be okay, right, you know, one you want to make this public with your family, You're you're a good kid. Yeah, you're acquired. Boy, I'm gonna keep that as my record. I've never I don't want to ever put myself any close to that type of situation. So that's what I try to day in day out. Yeah, it's it's we just got to shuck shank, Steve. The only time I saw the inside of a jail was to do a

story. So yeah, never had to go to jail for anything. Your guy Jay needs your help. We all need your help tomorrow. I'm preaching to the choir who you already know that he

needed many more ways than one. Well, that's why you guys have me here. I'm here to help. Okay. So how's life out there in La with the with the track? That's the track. Life is good. It's been kind of warm up the track. It looks like we're going to have a cooler week up at Stanta Needa this week, so we're not going to be letting our brains out. As far as Pimlical, where the Preakness

is going to be. It looks dry today, but it sounds like there's going to be quite a bit of weather moving it overnight, is it? Uh? I mean, it's always a fact factory when you get muddy and stuff like that. But are there certain types of horses, specific types of horses that might race better than the mud versus the others or is it the same for everybody? It kind of depends. So definitely when looking at a race and all track is listed as muddy or sloppy, there are certain fire

lines that do like running in the mud better than others. A fire being gun Runner, Spice down toiling Candy. Those fires all loved running in their mud, and their progeny as well seem to also like running in the mud

and slop. So those are horses that you can absolutely look too. Unfortunately, we don't really have those runners in this race and the Preakness tomorrow, which is the second leg of the Triple Crown, But there are horses in that race that have shown that either they like running in the slop or they don't mind the kick back in their face, and because it feels different under their feet running on a dry surface versus running on a wet surface, it

feels slippery to them. No. In fact, Jay, some of the factors of running the front in front, because you don't want the mud in your horses don't like that, So if you have a front runner, I think Imagination is one of those guys, right. Imagination is definitely a horse that is untested when he's not on the lead, and he's unt is on a money or sloppy track. So I do have my reservations about him tomorrow. He's trying a different level of horses than he has raced against in the

past. He's been running against a lot of his stablemates, which he hasn't run poorly against. In his second place in the Santanita Derby to Stronghold, whose Stronghold went on to run the seventh, which was a pretty good seventh in the Kentucky Derby. He came out of a really good race in there, and I think Strongholds race helps Stronghold's race in the Kentucky Derby helped support that San Anita Derby run that Imagination had. But the horse has never finished

worse than second, So I don't think that he's a bad bet. I just think he's very untested traveling outside of California, running on a different surface than he's not used to. But he does get Frankie to Toria board and that's a huge bonus in my opinion. All right, all right, let's start at the top with Mystic Dan. You know, not a lot of buzz about this horse. Kind of came out of nowhere last in the Derby, you know, but they always tend to pick the derby winner as a

favorite. I don't know if he's going to be the favorite, but as a favorite, what are your thoughts on Mystic Dan, whether or not this horse can pull off a second race. So with the scratch of Mook, who was Baffert's number one runner in there, Moose was originally the eight to five morning line. Once he scratched due to a fever. The morningline maker actually redid the morning line for the Preakness race and Missy Dan was listed as

the eight to five favorite. So he's the current favorite. I suspect you will go off as a favorite at race time. Eight to five is a little low I think for him, given that he was eighteen to one on race day, right, So it's it's definitely not the value that you got for him in the Kentucky Derby, but he was a horse that again he

likes running in the slop. He showed that in the grade theory Southwest at Oakland Park back into February when he won by eight legs like that, off the pace, just got an absolutely great trip and just flowed home to the slop and didn't look back against anyone. So I think with the off track, he's definitely wanted to consider her all right, and he had a perfect grade. He had a perfect ride from the inside all the way through.

That's probably gonna not going to be the case this time. Well you have to you never know until you know right this is this is true. Brian Hernandez got him a absolutely perfect trip riding the rail all the way around in the Kentucky Derby. Now that he's going to be in the four hole rather than the three hole, you know, I don't think that makes a huge difference. With the field is also half the size. We're now looking at an eight horse field instead of a twenty horse field, so that does change

some things. Then the pace I think has changed dramatically with the scratch of move because you don't have that natural speed from the middle hole in the gate to be able to just set a blistering pace for him to kind of sit off of interesting. So all right, so after missed again, where do we go? Well, this is where it gets interesting, because if you want a horse that's also proven in the slot, the next place to look is the three CA freedom. His current morning line is seven to two.

I suspect he'll stay right around there. But he won the Louisiana Derby, which was run at a mile in three sixteen, so he's proven at the distance, not just over the distance, but at the distance. He ran a really good fourth place effort in the Kentucky Derby. He was one of my Kentucky Derby picks if he remember Steve. Yeah, And he's one that will come running late. So I suspect that once they break away from the gate, he will be in like the third flight of horses. He's gonna

sit off the pace. He may sit a little closer if they're going a little slow, but he's definitely one that'll have a late kick coming down the stretch. Now we could have a cavalry charge coming down the stretch depending on how fast that pace is. If it's a blistering pace and there's a pace melt down because two horses decide to go out and run themselves into the ground. You're going to see a couple of horses coming late, and this one's

going to come with a really big run. He also gets slazy and fraudibourg, which is a really big point to think about in my mind. This jockey is aggressive. He's been on him for his last two races. He was on him in the Louisiana Derby onety one, he was on him in the Tucky Derby, and of course again got a pretty good trip. He

just came from even further back than what missed it Dan did. All right, So is there is there any particular type of race you're expecting to see, you know, a lot of speed, not a lot of speed? Uh, you know and put in you know the different types of races. You know who do those those favors? Can Can you say that with with with any of these horses? Yeah, So a pace scenario that I see happening pretty likely his imagination is going to go to the front. He's on

the outside, he doesn't have a lot of options. He gets franky Detoria board an imagination in this race was considered the quote unquote other Bafford horse. He was considered the number two Bafford horse of the two that were entered. Now again, he put out a really good race in the sant Anita Derby. He's coming in fresh off a month's layoff. He's put in two bullet works. He traveled well. He did not get stick on like his stablemate

Moose. Bob Baffort put out a quote today saying, I don't know what he'll do if he gets loose on the front end. He's not normally one that goes out to the front by himself. He goes with someone and he stays with them the entire way around, he said. Bob Baffert said, it's up to Frankie FRANKYTTRRI, who's his jockey. He's kind of on his own on this one because we don't really know what he's going to do if

he were to get loose on the front. Now, this horse doesn't like kickback in his face, which we don't know if he does, because he's always been on the front and he's never run on a sloppy track. The front, going right out to the lead is probably going to be the best place for him, so he doesn't ever get any kickback. Now, the horse that I see going with him is the sixth. He's the gray.

It's one of two runners in here for the coach Dwayne Lucas. He's coming off of winning the Pat Day Mile that was also run on Derby Day, so he's also coming off as two week layoff, just like some of the other horses in here that ran in the Derby. He's the gray. I don't see making it all the way around for the mile in three sixteenths. I just don't think that distance is for him, but I do see him

going out early and pressing that pace a little bit. In that second flight of horses, I can see just Steele, the seven who's the second runner for de Wayne Lucas, as well as mister Dan being in that flight of horses, and the eight who we haven't talked about. Tuscan Gold, who's interesting because he comes in with the least amount of races under his belt.

This will only be his fourth start. His last start was in the Louisiana Derby, which was a mile in three fifteenth so that's the same race that Catching Freedom won. He ran third that day. He went from breaking his maiden in January to running in a Grade one in a Grade two race, so that's a really big jump, and I think it shows his professionalism that he went from a maiden race where he got his first win to going up

against winners in a really good race and running a really valiant third. So Chad Brown has said earlier about his works this week that he's working better than he has before his last race. He's in top form, so I think this horse would also be making a really big run. He also was supposed to run in a different race. It took him off that race to get into this race correct, which is a big deal. It is I mean, there's more perse money here and this is a different group of horses than

he would have faced in the other race. But it sounds like this horse is up for the challenge. Again, we don't really know what he's gonna do on an off track, However, he's fired Megladoro is known to have horses like the offgoing, so I suspect he will be okay with a muddy track. Oh who do you like? Who do I like? You know? I would love to see Missing Dan get the second leg of the Triple Crown and work towards winning the Triple Crown series, But I don't think he's

the most likely winner in here. I think there are faster horses. I think there are horses that are more likely to close. After watching the races today, the trips that are winning, our trips that are sitting just off the pace and they're letting their just stalking the leaders before they go run them down. But I really think casting freedom is would the horse to look at him here at a seven to two morning line. Brad Hawks doesn't often run

horses back on a two week layoff. He's more likely to wait and put them in another race and wait on him. But this horse, after watching him gallop in the morning, he is on the bit and pulling. He looks like he's pulling the arms out off of his exercise rider, like he looks like he's breathing fire in the morning. He's very fresh, coming off that, coming off that fourth place finish in the derby, and so I

think there's room for him to improve. Now. The thing with Mystic Dan is Kenny McPeak has said right along that he cares about the horse and his well being. He wasn't going to put him here if he wasn't ready. So the fact that Mystic Dan has had his head buried in his food. Bull he's eating better now than he was before the derby. I think is

also a really good sign because food seems to be his love language. Kenny McPeak has been very honest that you know, he's an old soul, is very easy to read him what he wants to do, what he doesn't want to do. And he's only wanted to eat and wanted to train, and he's trained him really great right now and so and he's a very versatile horse. So it doesn't sound like he can not have a good trip, if that makes sense. Okay, all right, But we had a couple of

other things to talk about. Jay had a question to me yesterday. I answered him about Bob Baffort, and I said, you might be able to answer better than me because you're closer to the situation. He's in Pimlico today or this week. Go ahead and ask her the questions you asked me about Bob. Whether he'd get out of this? Yeah, I mean, is he is he kind of getting sick of this? Is he? Or is he just kind of like just rolling with it? And will he, you

know, keep just doing what he's doing well? Will follow him? Yeah? And is this going to be like when people think of Bob Bafford down the road, the issues that he's had is that I don't want to say his legacy, but with that kind of hang over him. I mean, the legacy that I've always seen of Bob Baffort is American pharaoh justify two triple Crown winners within a couple of years of each other. That's the legacy that I look at. I personally had a chance to interview him and talk to

him, and you know, he generally cares about his horses. It's unfortunate the situation that he's in with the Churchill Track, specifically in Kentucky. He's running his horse where his horses where he can, where they fit, where he's able to run them. You know, it's unfortunate of the situation that it is. It's been three years, but it doesn't sound like the suspension

is going to end anytime soon. But he's got some of the best horses in the country, and I've said, right along with the best horses should have an opportunity to run where they fit. And given that you've been in southern California at least a year almost two now or two now, I think that the tracks in southern California treat him very well. You know, he is the king, same as they do with Pimlical, because he's the king there as well. You know, he's said right along that he loves going

to the Breakness. He loves going to Maryland. Him and d Wayne Lucas were caught this morning casting up in the stakes barner earlier, just tit chatting. They both really enjoyed Maryland and the laid back set that it is. You know, it's a fun Pinmnical is a fun place to be for the Preakness. It's it's laid back and everybody is very kind and we are there to have a good time. So I think he's really enjoying being there for

the Preakness and having another runner. Whether he takes back to back Freaknesses, I don't know. If he had National Treasure last year, who went on to win the Pegasus World Cup and is just an absolute amazing horse. I've had a chance to actually meet him, So it's not to say that imagination isn't good enough. It's just I think the conditions could be against him. But I think Bob Baffert's got a couple other runners going tomorrow as well.

So he's enjoying Maryland right now, and definitely California racing. He does dominate in California quite a bit. He the stakes races. His horses are just sometimes heads and heals better than everybody else. Right. I think he has a few going tomorrow where you're a lot of maid maiden horses. I have not really looked at the Santa Nina card tomorrow, and I have been pretty focused on Solacovia Threek. But you're so in California now right. I am

currently in southern California right now. Yeah, okay, you're having fun. D You sound like you're having fun. I am enjoying myself. Yeah, okay, let's call it job. It is worked, but it's not really work if you enjoy it. So it's okay. Yes. My only demise is I have Jay with me. He stuck with me. D Yes, it's okay. I remember this. Well, thank you, all right, Date, thanks a bunch, man, appreciate it. You will say, hold dog if you're listening, Hello, all right, thank you. All

right, that was a decent Shaver said, she's fine. Yeah, she's fine, all right, man, I got my I got my winner right there, catching Freedom number three. That was going to be my horse. Let's go get it. That was well, No, I'm not. Now it's got it. He's got to withstand the kiss of death. No, I got to figure out other ways to go. All right, let's take

This is I on the Ball on Fox Sports fourteenth. Hey, welcome back to I on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jay, Daughter, Day,

Juan, and today for left fifteen more minutes for this first hour. If you want to call us five two o four one six seventy four forty, we'd like to hear from you, Victor, if you're there, give us a call, yep, give Jay some grief. Arizona softball in the rain delay. They were supposed to start at three o'clock. Now they're slated. It started three fifty five, so about fifteen minutes from now, and whenever they get on, we'll, you know, provide periodic updates of that.

And then baseball plays at six o'clock tonight, six oh five, trying to bounce back from the beating they took last night, and that's really what it was. They just got beat up. It was Oregon State's picture of the guy that used to be here was really good. You know, he was good. Former Pima guy too, always it Pima. I didn't I didn't know that. I don't remember that. But you know, ninety two they

got beat last night and it wasn't even that close. It was. It was uh yeah, I mean both teams got off to a good stripe, but was top of the third. Oregon they put up a five run inning and then Arizona got one back. But we're never really got back in the game. We're gonna put up, you know, enough enough runs to just

kind of walk away with that. So Arizona let that one go and and towards the end of the game, you know, Chip was just using getting guys some work to make sure he's got the right guys ready for tonight, you know, to take the shots tonight, Clark candyat it will be on the hill and we'll see would so if they let's say they get swept, Oregon State wins it. Yeah, Okay, where are they at now?

Right now? They're up one? What do you mean, game boys, Arizona's Arizona is half a game up, right, so they win, they'll be up a game and a half with only one left. That's why if there was one they could tie. Right, No, they can't tie. Oregon State has one less game because they had a game ragned out that they did make up. So so that's why there's that one and a half.

So Arizona's half a game up in the standings. They win tonight, there'll be a game in half up and there'll only be one game left to play. So that's why they would plinch. So they need to they need to just win one of the two games. Okay, sounds good, yep, Okay, good to talk to d See what's going on tomorrow with the Races, anything else? We have breaking news with Juan here. Yeah, back

back back to baseball. So they're they're they're struggling with injuries. They had another another one of their outfielders got hit by a pitch on the hand and he had to come out of the game. So they really they had to shuffle the the fielding around and they that basically their short stop had to go play outfield last night. Uh so we'll we'll see, you know, injury, why injury wise. What kind of problems are gonna have with that?

Because I think it was in the in the Utah series, the regular left fielder he hit the wall on a on a trying to make a catch and hurt his shoulder. So you know they're they're at least last night Chip was having to maneuver some guys around. We'll see what they come up with with a lineup for tonight. Okay, Yeah, that's crucial this time of year when they need the people. Hey, you can't be running out of players. Yeah did you see? Oh did you you you saw Chip? I

saw? Michael Levitt tweeted about the picture from last night that he kind of had a sense that he was gonna leave. Yeah, just was was not told until the last minute, right right, Yeah, So yeah, we were, you know, we were talking about that last night, and you know, I mean he got Look, he got the better of him. He came back against his old team, got the better of him. Last night. He looked really good. I mean he was I don't know if

you'd say he was dominating, but he was very effective. He you know, the Arizona just wasn't getting guys on base, and and they really never really threatened. They didn't have it anywhere. They had the bases loaded and something big goulda happened or anything like that. It just just kind of was very steady, did you say it for the whole thing. We left in the eighth inning when they scored those next rumor second, you know there, you know, they've only got two at bats to you know, to catch

a night. You know, it was nine to one. We thought, uh, and there again Arizona just wasn't. They just weren't doing anything. They didn't have a lot of buzz, and so we hit the road. Man. It was you know, if you're going tonight, get there early, because we I'd say, you know, I had somewhere I had to be, So I didn't get near the ballpark till about six o'clock, and

we parked basically over on twenty second Street. You know, we were in Reed Park, but all the way down in those parking lots, you know, on the other side of the zoo. So that's where people were parking by the time we got there. So if you planned to be there, be there early enough to get one of those parking There's a nicety parking lot on the out over the left field fence that wasn't there for the zoo. But so there's a lot more parking, but we still had to park out

in the boonies last night. Good crowd, it was pretty good. I think I got announced at forty six hundred, and I would have guessed that it was more than that because I know the games that I went to all had four thousand, and it looked like there were a lot more people there last night than they were the games that I went to. So but it was a pretty good crowd. The concession lines were long, so uh, you know again, get there early, get your food, go, get

your seat, and uh and enjoy the game. Good call. All right, let's take this call. Hi, you're on the air and I on the ball. Hey Jay, Hey Steve, Happy birthday, Steve, related thank you, thank you very much. What's up done? This is oh not much? I thought the crowd was. It seemed like it was closer than five thousand. I thought you too, last night. I thought it was over five I did. Yeah, yeah, I was telling I was

telling my son about the caller last week. I was asking about how can we get more people out to the ballpark, and he's all like, what does that dude want exactly exactly that? You know, Look, you know, four to five thousand people for a college baseball game is pretty damn good. Yeah, yeah, And uh, I thought what I thought was strange was to move after Corona came out with an injured hand. Was Mason White going to center field? I thought that, I go, why would you

move your center fielder. I would have thought, Okay, if if White's got to go to outfield, why didn't he go to right? But I don't practice with those guys. Ye don't know what they can do. There's a really well that must mean that Mason White is pretty damn good because right growing up, right wasn't our best player in little league or high school whatever, always the shortstop, and he could play like every position, including pitcher

and catcher. So maybe have something to do with that. And some of them did, Yeah they did. You were short stuff, weren't you? Some of them did, Sam. Yeah. See, that's that's why Steve was being quiet right there. Okay, but you think don taking taking stuff away from the center fielder. Hey, they can bounce back tonight, don't you think? I think so? I think I think Candy candy has a sense fel you can down like uh, Jackson Kent the last couple of trips

out, he's been a little bit. You know, things have happened with him. Yeah, and candy Otty come in and he just when it's his turn, it's just like, hey, settled in and let's go. He's going to handle that side and uh can last night just had that bad inning. Yeah, man was all with two outs, five runs with two outs. That was that was awful? Did you think it was two outs with nobody on? Like what? So? Don did you listen to mister candy Otti yesterday? I did hear a lot of that, and I did hear.

I thought it was I thought it was a good interview. I think I like, uh the stories that he told and everything else. And uh, man seventeen years in the majors, right, Holy moly. Right, you could tell that he had to come up with that pitch, you know, the the the knuckleball to kind of you know, just prolong his career. Right, that's the prolonged career. And you know, when you're a

finesque guy, you can do that. Now when you're the overpowering guy, because you got your you're limited in terms of years, but your shoulders done too. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. I like Lark and yet I think he'll you know, he's he seems very I know he's tough, right. He just didn't take any crap from anybody. He just goes up there and throws and you know he's just gonna beat you. He's mentally tough. That and then it's it's like in the in the interview yesterday,

it's like he's seen it all before. He's not going to get shook. You know, he could he could get he could get touched for a couple of runs in the first and then come back and shut him down the rest of the way. He's going to forget about that last inning and pitch this inning. Yeah, he's I think he's real. He's real tough and real solid that way. I like him. I like him a lot. You're going tonight. I'm not going tonight. I let I left at the end of seven last night, and uh, you know, if we have

to, we'll go SAT tomorrow. Probably, Okay, I don't think we're gonna have to. I I wore my replic Championship ring last night, and that might have been the ko D last night. Scotty Scottie Scheffler was acting like a jerk. He's in where he's at. He was it was, he was, I mean, he goes, I got to get to the golf course. It's the most important thing in the whole wide world. It's it's it's like the dumb story about Bill Frieder going. There was that one

story. I don't I don't remember what book it was in, I said, but it was Bill Frieder's at the golf course and there they've got him in lines waiting to tee off, and he just grabbed his grabbed his car and started driving around the course and finding a hole to start on. Come on, dude, I didn't see that. I didn't hear that. I remember that. But yeah, you know, it's very simple. That whole thing could have been avoided by him. By him, there was a there

was an accident where somebody died and there was police on site. There had to have been red and blue lights flashing. He could he could say it was dark and all that malarchy, But when you see red and blue lights, you slowed down and wait, you're not hoopping curves and trying to get to where you're going right, right, right? Unless you got a unless you got a nine and a half months pregnant wife in the car with you and you're going, dude, I need to get her someplace. Thank you,

Amy, I appreciate it. Don maybe see it the ball part. I wanted to talk real quick about the topic you brought up. I think yesterday or the day before the Kanis City chief guy. Oh yeah, it's still more still talk about man polarizing. Let me ask you a quick question. If you're the guy that's going to speak at one of these things, what are you talking about? Not talking about that? That's not my answer.

That's not the answer. What are you talking about? If I'm commit at a commencement you're the guy, you know, I might talk about my journey a little bit and try to I'll try to. I guess I would try to relate my experience to what I'm thinking. You're you're looking, you know where you're going? Right? This is what I did, This is how I got to where I am, and this is how it can work for you. Right. And I've actually given a couple of talks like that

at high schools and stuff. You know, over time that Okay, this is how I got here, you asked me. Yeah, yeah, I did speak at a high school commencement once you know, they they and I've just said, you know, I think if I coming no one else was available, I must not have been you know, I you know, I think my my uh my, My message was, you know, don't automatically assume that you can't do something mm hmmm right, just because of who you are or where you come from. If you think you can do something,

then do it. Take your shot. Yeah, and that's good advice. Yeah, that's good advice. You might have to take that same advice I know, just a life. Yeah, my, My whole thing would be, uh, don't tell let people tell you. No, you don't tell, you know, and if you don't believe in yourself, who is going to believe in yourself? Perfect? You know, I mean that that that is that is perfect. I mean, you know we've all got stories. Right. The one thing that I do really harp on it and I tell

these kids too, uh, and it involves us. If you're not taking control of your life in the real world, someone else is gonna do it for you, and then you're gonna be held. They're gonna tell you what to do. I mean, you and I are in a situation now at the older age where we're called or an old shot, which is fantastic. I don't know, you know, we've I've never been happy because kind of my boss's named Steve right, and we can yeah, answer to me.

Yeah, no, Steve. I mean, you know, look, I mean times have changed, you know, over fifteen years ago, six years or whatever. But you know, there's two stories out from my family about that. My brother Rick became a lawyer, very successful lawyer, you know, prominent guy in Tucson. And when he went to his college counselor at Sunnyside and said, you know, I want to go to college, and the guy said, no, you should just go work at the mine,

you know. And he was told that you're you're probably better off going to work at the mind. You'll never make it to college, you know. And I was, you know, when I had a similar story. I went into my college counselors my senior year in high school. In high school, it was the fall, so I wanted to start applying to college and stuff. And I walked in and I said, you know, I wanted I want to apply to some colleges. And my college counselors you want to

go to college. And I'm like, yeah, I do, said it just like that. Your dad did call and he says, no, he said it just like that, you want to go to college? Yeah, I really do, you know. And and so I ended up my brother Rick ended up being my college counselor. He was my advisor, right, you know, I just want to I would use this guy to go get

applications. But I you know, my Rick was my advisor. So you know you have that and and you know, both of us could have been stopped right there, right if we would have listened to the people that we talk sure, and powerful people, not powerful, but influential, influential people,

yeah, in in our lives. And so you know, you know your message of don't let people decide for you, you know you decide, that's a great message, right and and uh, you know, and this this guy goes up there and uses it as a as a platform too to go over to some crazy stupid ass. Well, there's people, the people defending Steve, there's people who believe the weirdest things, and so they're going, you know, you're going to always find somebody who believes in whatever you

Okay, well some people who believe the world is flat. I mean, come on, this is not a weird thing. We gotta go. We'll come back on the side. One has some breaking news, and then we'll move on with Chick Fisher, all right,
