I saw is that Washington fired head coach for basketball Mike Hopkins. They told him he won't be back for next year, but he can finish the rest of the season. How difficult is it to be a lame duck coach when you have really you're you're there, but you're not there. And then he pulls off last night's game, right, I know that's it. Hey, nice win against Washing Steak. Guess why you're fired. I hope they didn't like tell him, like in the locker room after the game that they at
least enjoy the win overnight. And then hey, mikeel we need to see you at breakfast today. Yeah, here's the plank. But you know he's gonna get paid with three point one part of that knife in your back. Well that but that was the last year of his contract, is what it is. So they're just paying paying his contract out. So so all the speculation has already be done. Kyle Smith at Washington State UH Jason schre tweeted that Lorenzo Romar is available go back. Yeah he could be a good assistant
coach somewhere some there or me even but yeah. So yeah, so Washington is gonna have a new, uh, a new basketball coach next year, and he ain't gonna be Tommy Lloyd point something. Some baseball news, the Los Angeles Dodgers just announced Smookie Bets will be the permanent shortstop. Wow, the rich got Richard. Well, he's been He came up as a second basement and then he's been playing a lot of outfield. He's a great outfielder.
Yeah, and then they they brought him into they brought him back to the infield because they felt he was you know, no, they went from second base to the outfit because they thought he was, you know, diving for balls and hurting himself. I guess he's gonna be shortstop. They had Miguel Rojas last year. It was a rookie just at the plate, just wasn't getting it done. So now you get, you know, a great
hitting shortstop and uh and they off guy. Yeah yeah, you'll fill some fill some holes out in the outfield with some of the guys that they've signed. So next Tiger Woods will not He announced he will not play in the Players Championship. Yeah, well he had that. He got in that tournament that the Genesis and ended up bailing out because he was sick. I don't know if he's got Physically he's uh, he's in good shape, but he just he's just not And I guess he never said he was gonna play,
but now he's he didn't. The deadline for for entering the tournament passed and he was not on the list. He hasn't played in that tournament since twenty nineteen as well. So yeah, forty eight years old. That so big news. Missouri governor rejects to comment on Andy Reid's son regarding the case. Yeah, Dan wetzel Man, he ripped, He ripped the governor of Missouri
and the easy Target general. Easy target for obviously a big deal. Yeah, yeah, he said, you know, and then and then say you know where they said, well, most o the people convicted of the same thing have served about that much time. And they said that, but didn't offer any proof of that, just basically saying, you're Andy Reid's kid, and you're a coach with the Kansas City Chiefs, you get special privileges. Even if it's true. It doesn't look good, it looks bad, looks
terrible. So what did he say? What did what's say? Just just that this is you know, again, for anybody who thinks that that you know, the justice system is equal for everybody, it's it's well, we already knew that. But there's another another very high profile example that it is. As it said, what he's gonna do is he gonna go back to
coach. He was a coach for his dad, right, Yeah, he was well, and that was that was the other thing that the me his coaching experience was as a grad assistant in college and then he gets a full time assistant coaching job in the NFL. Yeah, he said basically said that. The way Dan Wetsill put it was he he got to cutting the cutting line in the NFL. He got to cut and line out of prison.
Yeah, I mean just just to give some context, he served sixteen months of a three year sentence after pleading guilty to felony driving while intoxicated, resulting in serious physical injuries driving eighty four miles per hour in a sixty five zone. He had two part cars near a Arrowhead stadium. Six people were injured, and including a five year old girl, Ariel Young, who suffered traumatic
brain injury right and was in a coma for eleven days. Look, I've told my kids and anybody who listens to me, or life is not fair. It's it's just not fair. It's not well, it's more fair for some than for well, it's it's more advantageous, vantagious. Yeah, sure, exactly that. And that's the outrage over this is that you know, would your kid have gotten that break? No? You know, would Adam have gotten that break? No? Would I? No? Absolutely not?
Yeah, all right. Next in college basketball news, Temple is to reviewing reports of unusual wagering activity on the game versus U A B. It's been flagged by gambling watchdog company US Integrity for unusual betting activity. Did you see how it was spread? It was a three three? It it was like two and a half points. I think moved to a Temple by two and a half, and then it moved too point favorite Florida Atlantic by eight,
and then then they won by like thirty or twenty five. Florida Atlantic A f A U A B there all the time, U A B one, Yeah, U A B one by a bunch. And I guess a previous game that Temple was initially favored in they got blown up like that as well, and they're kind of looking at that one as well. This isn't the first time that's happened. But you know, it goes to that argument that people saying, oh you you you make ambly legal. This is going to
happen all the time. Look, folks, this has been happening. Yeah. By making it legal, it's exposed. It's out there, you find out about it. And that's what's happened here that you know that these watchdog companies that the conference is higher figure this stuff out. If this is the same company that flagged that Alabama baseball game, remember that. Yeah, and that got the Alabama coach fired because he was sending text messages to his guy
who was betting in Cincinnati. You know, my pitcher's not pitching go put a bunch of money on. Something happened that I got to just recently. I can't remember, saw in the news the guy that was gambling in Cincinnati. I'm not sure what happened, but it was a big scandal. Yeah. Next up, Arizona's going to have its pro day on March fourteenth. They have fifteen guys listen to participate, as opposed to six players a year ago. A couple of those players are projected NFL picks, Jordan Oregon and
Jacob Cowing. Yep, Jaydeen de Laura is going to be at that at that pro day, so you know, we all saw that he it didn't work out for him to go to another school, so he declared for the NFL draft. Yeah, Tanner McLaughlin's going to be in there, Michael Wiley's going to be in there. Those are the guy well, I know Delrd's gonna get drafted. With Cowing, Morgan, Wiley, and McLoughlin, we're all at the NFL combine likely to get drafted at some point. Then there's
a bunch of other guys. DJ Williams is the running back from who came here from North Carolina and a few other guys, So fifteen guys in the Pro Day that'll be uh, been pretty cool, good for them. And then in the NBA, Trey Young would like to He's open to facing Kaitlin Clark in a three point contest. So inspired by Steph Curry and Sabrina Iyanescu,
he wants to partake in something like that as well. That'd be fun, sure, or they should do a good for them, yeah right yeah, or you know, pair him up as a team, right right. Did you see the one thing that they wanted, you know, the fourth thing the pros Golf they had for remember covid Uh it was Tom Brady, Yeah, Tom Barkley. So I saw one yesterday that would be interesting. I don't know if I watch it, but I guess I'm good Tiger and his son and uh uh John Daily, John Daley and his son. His
son's good player. That's the match that they want to see. I think that'd be a cool match because there need no pressure on Tiger, right and everybody kind of wants to see his son. on the phone. We have our guy, Jake Fisher, former Juve football player. Jake. What's going on? Nothing much? Happy Friday, guys, Happy Friday. Good to be with you. Hey, we've been talking about chemistry, team chemistry and how it it affects teams. I'm sure you've been on a team or two. You've been on a number of team since you were a kid where the guy could be unbelievably talented and you say we need him and then figure out he's a pain in the neck and he says,
now we don't need him. Yeah, exactly. And this year we literally have had none of that. I'm really thankful that, you know, a couple of these seniors that came and they know that this is their last year, so they had to kind of fit into the mold. They knew that we had, you know, gotten a number two seed last year and
that uh, you know, we had some big aspirations. So and the other thing is those two freshmen that are playing all those minutes, you know, coming off the bench, along with Jade and Bradley, those guys all fit perfectly into the system. They're all buying into their role. They're not trying to step on people's toes. They're basically letting the seniors kind of lead
us to where we need to go. And I mean that's incredible because you know, for the next couple of years when these guys have to step into those roles, they're going to be perfectly you know, content with it. They know they went through it, and they're going to be able to teach the young guys coming up how to do the same. You know. Steve and I we were talking about the fact that probably one of the biggest differences
between this team, this team this year and last last year's team. Last the team was really talented, right A Zulus was a really good player, had a bunch of really good guys. But the bench, these three guys that are coming off the bench and the way they're contributing, you know, because we should just sometimes close our eyes when guys came off the bench last
year. That's a huge difference for this team. Well yeah, and to be honest with you, like if we all take a look back and we just watched some of the games last year and we saw that mid season low if you remember before the tournament, I'm like, we can literally lose to anybody, and we can beat anybody, and it's very inconsistent just because you only had really six guys with a seventh guy that showed up every three or four games. This team's got six guys that show up every game, and
then another guy that plays relentless defense. And you know, if he scores a point like great, and then Moe Crevis if he can spell you know, big O like he did last night for twenty minutes and play decent defense against the den bona. I mean, that's just a bonus in itself. So you got five guys that are averaging double figures. You've got three or four guys that can just you know, get up in me on defense.
You have two major seven foot plus guys, you know, kind of anchoring the defense, and you have guys you know, on the perimeter that can switch everything. It just makes everything so much easier. You know. He allows guys to get into passing lin get out, get some easy breaks, and I mean hell, Like I said, top to bottom, I think besides maybe you know Houston, I think has a couple of guys that are injured. Give you con I don't see another team as talented with more of
an upside. Maybe you know Tennessee, but we're up there in that upper echelon. It's pretty nice. Yeah, you talked about you talking about last year about the teams could if they played well, they can win it all. Or this year, if they don't play well, they can lose it all. Was it last year? This year? You're talking about last year year this year? Just because you have the seniors and you have guys that can get buckets in tournament time. I think, like the floor is a
sweet sixteen. Last year the floor was getting beat by Princeton and it happened. So you don't think that this year, No, I don't. Honestly, Guys, like the main difference is you have so many guys that have been there before. Do you really think of Caleb Love, a key Shaw Johnson, or even you know, a senior Pella who now I haven't seen go to the basket as much as he has the last few week, A
senior big O. Guys that can actually shoot. The guys coming off the bench, that they can go ahead and they can get their own bucket. That's not gonna happen this year. Last year, who's going and getting you their own bucket? Besides you know, besides big Z. But then again, come tournament time, he disappears. Nobody wanted to shoot the ball last year when things got tight. This year you got three or four guys that have no problem with it, so you're not going to get ran over by
it, you know, a lesser team. The floor is the Sweet sixteen? That or yeah, the floor is the Sweet sixteen. Jake, Steve and I had a debate about this, and I don't remember if we asked you about it or not, but if we did, refresh our memories having two guys make Caleb Love and Keisha Johnson who have been to the final flour, I mean saw the road firsthand. How much does that add to the
locker room or does it not? Guys just go well, I want to get the final four anyway, So whatever you say doesn't make me change my approach or make me think any differently. How much does that matter, do you think? I mean, it matters entirely. I mean, why do you think we brought these two guys in? You know, like last year it was a major disappointment two years ago, even though you know it was
Tommy Lloyd's first time here or first year here. We got to the sweet sixteen, but we had a roster that should have got at least to the Elite eight in my opinion. So this year it's hey, listen, we've got everybody coming back with the uh, you know, with the exception of the big you know, big Z down Low. We're going to bring guys in that have been there and those guys that have been inserted into the starting lineup. You've got the guard everyone wanted to get rid of, Kirk Cries
before. You still Pelley, you still have Big O. And then you bring in a guy like Jayden Bradley, who you know, I mean half the year last year he was the starting point guard for probably the most talented team in the country. I mean, you bring these guys in for a reason. So, these guys have been here, Jamee's been around a very talented team, and then you bring in a couple of freshmen that are willing
to, you know, kind of buying their role. But bringing in these guys that have been to the Final four, that have been to the national championship game, this is their last chance. So how hard do you think they're going to play to get back there? And it's only going to make everybody else play hard? So what what can they so is it mainly how they play? Or what is there something they can say, you know, in a huddle, in a locker room or whatever. Are you right with
that experience? And Jake, remember you're on the team or you're on the team, you know what you know, and you're and you're a good player. How much are they going to influence you? Jake? You got to play better because we've been there, you haven't. Well, if I was a guy like a Pella or you know, an Umar, you know, I look at them and say, they've been there, I haven't, Like, what the hell do I have to do? You know, now that we're on the back half of the season, you see how hard Key SHOT's
playing. I mean, key shot, got what eleven twelve words last night against probably the most athletic big men in the country. And I mean it's one of those things to where he's doing exactly what he needs to do at the right time of the year. He's switching off and guarding point guards and shooting guards. I mean, he's he's you know, you could plug him in at the five and he has you know, you have Caleb Love yesterday who got off to a slow start, but I mean they were doing everything
that they could in their power not to score. And he's dropping dimes and making good passes and you know, swinging the ball when he needs to, and then when he needs to, you know, take a shot. He'll take a shot. But you get in one of those situations where you need a bucket, you know he's gonna get it for you. I mean that guy can literally take ten shots miss him and I'd still be comfortable getting them the ball at the end of the game. So these guys have been there
before. These guys are the ones that basically are going to say, follow me, I've been there, and there you go. I trust him. They've been there. I haven't see I told you no Jake. I don't always believe what Jake says, and I'm not sure I believe him. Now. Well you should see because Jake, you already know what it takes to get there. My point is, what I'm saying is maybe you don't no what do you mean? Maybe you don't know what it takes to get there.
These guys can tell pos possibly or give you more information, but I've seen teams I'll give you, and this is a bad example because it's been a thousand years ago, nineteen eighty seven. They were all there, they were all there all back then. You all you what to do, and guess what they didn't do it. But it's not I never said it's a guarantee. So yeah, you said, guys, it's not. It's not a perfect science. Well, I'm saying I have two people that have been
in the National Championship Game and I haven't. I'm gonna go ahead and think we're going to get there. I'm gonna go ahead and mimic what they do, and I'm going to feel comfortable following them and to help, you know, helping them to get back there. Dude, that's all it is. I mean, you literally can have a one seed lose to a sixteen seed. We've seen that happen two times in the last five here. That's how crazy the tournament is. What I'm saying is, you have senior leadership,
you have two guys that have been there. I am more than confident that they can get me there again. I like your thesis. I like your theory. I don't don't agree with it, but I'm fine with it. I like it, Jake. I'm with you, and I like it too, but but I understand you. And you and you meet Jake were one and Jake, remember that the Jay's rarely right. So I had Washington State last night, Jake. If I knew something weird was going to happen yesterday,
so I didn't even think about doing a parlay. And that's one of the reasons. Very smart. The end of the year, something weird is gonna happen. Very smart. So what do you think They got one tomorrow, and they got three possibly in the Pac twelve, and then they got six possibly in the tournament. They got to roll nine ten games. They don't have to. They don't have to, but it would look good if
they did. They they're capable, well, they're capable. I don't think in a perfect world, obviously they're capable of reeling off all those wins in a row. But you know, tomorrow, I think, you know, they got the monkey off their back. I think they're going to play a little bit more free. You know, it's not like we have to win this game in order to lock up the one seed or the regular season tournament or the regular season championship. I don't know if USC is fighting for seeding
or what that all looks like. So they may come out just you know, trying to you know, prove a point or basically saying, hey, we have one last chance to take down and you know, a good Arizona team this year. I know I have a feeling Arizona is gonna it's gonna be a closer game against that. See that it wasn't against UCLA. I think UCLA's basically given up on the season. Yeah, you know, after that first ten minutes, you can tell they were kind of like, yeah,
we're not gonna beat this team. And then USC they have to their two best players or two of their best players back to play against us, and so I think they're gonna have you know, they're gonna want to go out and prove it when it comes to the tournament again. I think that we're gonna win the tournament championship. I think Tommy's gonna go perfect three for three and then after that it's just hey, guys, you know want and done. Let's get ready to go. Yeah, So let me ask you
a funny question or a weird question. Croton has been kind of up and down. He's thrown his players under the bus a time or two, maybe the last two to three months, and then he said, you know, it's all on me, and then last night he did it again. Kind of if you're a player for a guy like that, how difficult is to play and not give up? And say, how would you if you think nothing of us? I'm just gonna, you know, play what I can in hell with you. Yeah, it takes a very particular type of player
to play for a man like that. What I love And someone pointed this out to me, and then I went ahead and tweeted about it. This is the first year that Tommy and Cronin have both had their own teams. Look how crappy Ucla is and look how good Arizona is. So all the UCLA folks that are saying that you know, so and so's a better coach. I would have loved to walk into a team that had Tiger Campbell, Jim Hawk as you know, you're able to get Johnny Joosang or however the
hell you say his name back, you have a dem bona. I mean the two five star kids that he's recruited, that Peyton Watson kid who hardly played and then became a first round draft pick. And then that point guard that they had last year that came on strong late and didn't want to come back and play with Mit Cronin. I mean, just imagine that, like you, basically you're a five star, you go there to sit on the bench for most of the year and you can still become a first round draft
pick. I mean, it just shows you that there's a track like that people do not want to be there. When it comes to Tommy system, obviously you got a bunch of guys that are coming in, they're going to play. He never gives up on you. He does not, you know, trash you in the media. He you know, he'll tell you how he feels, but he's not going to you know, brate you in front of people, and then eventually, you know, if you could play,

It's like this, listen, I love the fact that he plays his ass off. There's a difference between playing hard and playing reckless. There's a huge difference. And he was playing reckless last time. I'm glad I even tweeted. I'm like, I'm surprised nobody swung on him yet,
Like that's how bad. Like he was pissing me off and I'm not even playing well, I just did, And I'm glad you're five hundred miles away from me. I mean, it's gracious, Okay, what else is going on? So okay, let me ask you this then? You know, with what they had, you know, football, you were excited, you know, ten wins, it was a great football season, had a blast. More excited about what's going on basketball wise, or you know, is

I'm excited about basketball normally, and during football season, I'm excited about basketball. That The cool thing is the fact that we have a good team. We have a lot of guys coming back. I have you know, full faith in the staff, and we got a lot of excitement coming on, you know, coming up spring. This is the first time during basketball in a long while that I'm excited to
see the football team. So that's just you know, a shout out to all the guys that decided to come back even after the coach has left. Happy for him, and I'm hoping that we have a really good season coming up. Have you had any contact or you know, seen anything of you know, on a on a football zoom or thread or anything of Brent Brennan your impressions of him that you've gotten so far. Yeah, I got on
a zoom. I didn't talk or do anything. I just wanted to kind of listen in because you know, a lot of the older guys and a lot of the older you know alumni that know him, you know, they're the ones that kind of took over the meeting. And I mean he just seems like a down to earth guy, you know, almost like almost like
a little bit you know, Jeff Fish was very calculated. Brenna just seems like, you know, hey, whatever comes comes, I'm just going to coach these guys up, and you know, let him go out and ball out. Where you know, Jed was more of a car salesman type guy. You know, everything was so calculated with what he said. Brennan is just kind of a you know, go easy. You know, hey, I'm just gonna I'm just here to coach football type guy. So you know
it's gonna be different. Obviously, I can't wait to see what the schemes are and everything like that. He didn't really dive into it, but you know, we're going to know if he's a good coach. Sing is how these guys, you know, seeing how these guys basically react and how they come out and play for him. And that's what I'm excited about, given how you described Jed just now car salesman and kind of you know, said
what he says. Did at any point while he was your coach at you Vey, did it give you pause or you know you kind of said, hmm, these things just don't feel right. No, I mean because you have I mean guys like he's a good coach, right, good recruiter, all this other stuff. Nobody likes. How he left. Everyone knew he was going to probably lead next year, Like that was kind of what everyone's holing on to. When it comes down to it, he had a good
year. I hope Brennan has a good year. I did not think twice like when I heard how you know, calculated he was or how he spoke. It's the fact that he had been at like twelve places in the last fifteen years. That's what I was like, Ah, this guy's probably gonna use this as a stepping stone if he has success.
