This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez. Sound Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. Subscribe now to the podcast on the iHeart Radio Whip Just Surgery. I on the Bar. Hey, welcome back to the ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, He's Jagon's oss. Now we have Jason Wins some breaking news on the ball. Breaking news eleven former

Wildcats while we're participating in the twenty twenty three NBA Summer League. Inta um, these eleven representatives from Arizona are the most by any school or program in the country. Yeah. Some names that I didn't know. We're still around, Steve. Do you see that? Do you see the list? Well, in the list, I was if you didn't wrinch in this, I was gonna mention that. Yeah, no, it's a great list. Can we go through the lists to this real quick? Do you have the list?

Yeah? Go ahead, Jason true lists, go ahead? Sorry, Yeah, first player is Chance Comanche. Let's kind of review, just real quick, real quick. Uh. I thought he had some great potential and he was coming on and then thinking that either Okay, no, I'm gonna We're gonna assume him here. He was here, he saw that he was on the sophomore year playing really well, Oh, this guy's gonna be good. I'm wondering if you really had a chance to get to the next level

or he just didn't want to be here. Did you want to be because he was? He had a tough under Sean? Yeah? Yeah, who who you know? Who knows? Who knows? Who knows? Yeah? But yeah he as they say, gone too soon? Well then Jay, let me say this too. And for whatever reason, I want to say this. The stories these guys could tell, the stories they could tell, this is another book ye did never tell. But they're not gonna never tell. They're gonna yeah, Okay. The second player is Cedric right with Cavaliers.

Cavaliers Okay, good luck. Yeah, yeah, you know, the first first time, first time out of the basket, trying to trying to hook up somewhere, you know, land on the league team somewhere, right right, that's really what he's trying to do. Third player is Justin Kreiter san Antonio. Yeah, had a good first year. Uh, he's probably a G league guy. He played most of the year in G League. Last year with San Antonio, good luck. The good guy, smart guy. I liked him a lot. He was I you know, he saved

a lot he I when went out. Yeah, you know, I remember the first time I saw him in not not in a you know, in an actual game. I thought, this kid can really be good because he was aggressive defensively and he worked hard defensively, and I thought, this is the guy that Sean Miller is gonna love. I guess he didn't have enough of an offensive game play. He played for Tommy we gon a one year for tom Right, didn't claim Georgia, played for Georgia, came in for

Georgia. I thought he played a year for Sean. This is the third year he last year was his first year u a the previously. Oh all right, he stepped in for Kerr. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am. Okay, you could maybe well all right, but either way, I thought this is a kid who he's working hard. Right, you really saw a work ethic on him. Maybe you're right. I think you're right. He just played the one year here. I liked him

a lot, Yeah, especially for a guy only here one year. A fourth player is Nico Mannion well Man, this guy you know he's from Phoenix. Yeah, when you were a kid. Yeah, he was like one of the best high school players ever, ever, ever. I heard about him a lot. He was fantastic at least uh coming in Yeah, hyped, hyped over Zeke and hyped over over Green And he was one of those

guys that just he's the one. He's the one that could tell stories and he's the one that sticks out to me as a guy who was just here his time, no question. You know you have felt that way about DeAndre Ayton. But Nico Mannon, you can tell, wanted to be anywhere. But in college the one thing that happened to him was Miller's offense. He didn't let him, let him do, didn't couldn't let him play. And

people said that. People would say things like, oh, you know, he's not listening to Sean Miller, He's listening to his dad, who's saying stuff like that. That was another issue. Yea, yeah, yeah, our next players better And of course you know great Paer. They mentioned him today, They mentioned him to Rich Jefferson, um because he's talking about you all the time. He had the first year that was fantastic. Yea. All rookie team. Yeah, one of the best players in the last ten

years. He why is he? Why is he playing in the summer? Experience she's that good. Yeah, experience. Our next player and another guy that I had no idea was still around, right, you know, played in Australia, went back home. Um still you know, still making it okay. Next player is Brandon Randolph again, another guy. Guy just kind of a a nondescript kind of guy, or I should say that had a nondescript kind of career. Yeah, you know, he was injured, some

played some never was really as good as everybody expected him to be. Our next guy is Kobe Simmons. Another dude who got lost in the shuffle because he remember he was Treers back up right and when Truer was out with his bunch and was very very good. But he two didn't want to be here. He knew, he knew that he was here. He had people, he had people in his ear and said, you know, can just get out of here and just get out, don't waste your time here. Okay,

you're good enough to be in the G League. Go over there. And he's been hanging out for a while, right for it's got to be about five six years. Yeah. Yeah, our next story is dal and Terry. Yeah, this is the guy who needs to work. Yeah, he needs to work. Last year, at this time, no, that's true. About ten months ago we were thinking what are you doing? What are you doing? And then he gets drafted. He didn't spend a lot of time at the at the NBA level last year. He needs he needs

the work. But you know the obviously they feel there's some promise in him to let him have a chance to go get some time in. So he needs that. Dal and Terry our next players A zulistic Villas. Yep. He hasn't played much. He didn't play much in Sacramento. He didn't play the first game. I think they played three games. They were one and two. He played thirteen minutes. Last game, he had like two points twice. To get on the floor, he's got to get on the floor,

get on the flo. And I don't know how you get on the floor. They don't. They don't think you can get on the floor because if he gets on the floor, you feel like he'll show right. But if but if the people you're playing for don't believe in you, Yeah, I hear it. If no one knows you can dance, but you're a good dancer, but no one says no. Who says yes? I'll never know. Last players Brandon Williams another dude. Remember he kind of saved Sean.

He came on the scene. He could have laughed, and he stayed here and he was the guy to save Sean with the recruits. Yeah, but then he got hurt, got hurt, hardly played. We hardly saw it right. But you know, you look at those names, you know I'll run the one, just one that's not on this the most one of the most mysterious guys. Grant Jared No, no, no, who who left him? What are you thinking? I mean, look at his name? Is a chance Comanche? Uh? You know Keanu Pinned or Brandon Randolph,

Kobe Simmons, Brandon him. It's hard for me to believe those guys are still kicking around and still. I mean, if they're in this league, they've got a chance to be in the in the NBA. Some smaller than others, but sure, it's amazing to me that these guys are still. Right. If I was at the paper, if I was at the paper still many years ago, I would be in Vegas now doing cover covering this and not the victors stuff. It would be these guys. Yeah,

and the stories they could tell. Know honestly, j you know that there's stuff, and there's stuff because they know stuff. Yeah, no doubt there's stuff. There has to be, there has to be. Good good luck twelve these guys, you know, good luckwe And there's one more, Quinn Crawford. He's a coach. He's coaching the Lakers team. He's the head coach of the Lakers team. Had you asked me this this name or is this guy? I don't know, but he was he was, he was.

He was the coaches for Sean right about ten years ago. Whatever. Well, he was. He was a walk on and then then was the GA and then he got he got into coaching in the pros. Yeah, you got himself a gig, you know. Yeah. Arizona Volleyball right in blue match will be played on August nine, team first time without Rubio Layers one hundred and fifty years. Yeah. Yeah, and we're gonna have him on the show because I'm sure he's more relaxed. He's kind of living.

You know, he's out there doing camps. I've been saying, you know, I follow him on Twitter. So he's out there. He's out there doing stuff. He's not staying active, right, probably staying as busy as he wants to be, right, Yeah, awesome. National News. The Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley is a recipient of the Joe D. Moore's Trophy for the for winning the twenty twenty two twenty twenty three NBA NBA Sportsmanship Award.

Michael Conley. I know the name barely, but he was a lefty, lefty guard, right, yeah, left to guard, a veteran league. Right. His dad, His dad was a pretty good player. He's a track guy, I think Conny, I think so, yeah, okay, lefty okay? Um NICKI mccrawl, Nick mccrawl. K Penson has passed at the age of fifty one, right, because she was a w NBA for the w NBA, kind of legendary player out of Tennessee, right, yep, and uh died of fifty one again, you're right, you know,

assume a healthy, in shape person, Yeah, an athlete. And then there's Olympic gold medal drops one years old. Scary step in that range, and I'm not joking about it. I'm not gonna joke about this because you never know you're you're in the sixties, I mean my late fifties. I eat like crap. I eat like crap. You just don't know. I mean, you just don't know. My daughter's home and I'm eating better. Well, she's not stay there forever? Do you understand what I'm saying?

You could I could just get hit by the bus here, or I can sing like you know these world class athletes. Yeah, asking away like a people, right, you know, you never know what your time is, right, so enjoy your life. Yeah, definitely. So that's all the breaking is, all right. I got a couple of things. Um uh, you got throw one from you? Yeah, Henry bass Are mot motius motius grievous. Is that they're gonna be competing in the twenty twenty three

Phoeba Under twenty European Championship. Um uh, crevious playing for Lithuania and based are playing for Estonia. So that starts to July the eighth. So they're getting again getting some more work like uh like Colin Boswell got like uh, Philippe borovichan and got so again. These guys out there. Look, if you're playing in these these on these teams, you're you know, A,

you're pretty good. This is gonna help quite a bit. Are the more we talk, are we talk about these players for Tommy, You're really gonna like this team? Yeah, really gonna like this team. Um or two days away from the Major League Baseball Draft and Chase Davis is waiting to see where he's gonna land. It's on. It starts on Sunday, Sunday. It's somebody Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. Yeah. Yeah, so he's expected going the first round. I was gonna say late maybe like now, like

tenth, twelfth or something like that. I think it's what I saw. The dude's good guy. Can just play, guy, can just play? Um uh, what's another one? Um? Oh? Aaron Judge. So somebody asked Aaron Judge because he he he ran into the fence at Dodger Stadium, hit us hit his toe on on a on a on a pet on concrete that was kind of part of the construction there. He's hurt his toe.

He might have season ending surgery. They're hoping he doesn't. It was a concrete step that it says a concrete step that separated the bullpen from the field. Somebody asked him if he's gonna sue like soon the part of the game playing baseball, Yeah, you know, and the gate opened, the gate open, right, So yeah, so yeah he hit the gate and and and hit his toe and he said, nah, he's not so sue for what you can't get one hundred thousand dollars from from from the Dodgers because

you heard it go. You know, you know you throw that much away when you wash your hands. So true. Yeah, so there was that, Um, that's it, but uh, you know, just uh yeah, I don't have much except for that what you just said. They starting,

So we're gonna come back. We're and talk with that. We're gonna talk with Carl Garrett here a little bit again, talk about what's you know, what the hell is going on at sell Point that she's churning out these uh, these athletes that are But if you guys want to watch, I know there's a lot of fans who listen to us. Uh, they're gonna be the games that we're gonna showing on ESPN, NBA TV. You can see, you know, the players play summer league games. Yeah, yeah

to tonight, Steve. You can gamble on them. I know, I saw that. I said, who do that? Because these games are just kind of pain. Yeah, I gotta tell you, I know a bunch of degenerates. Okay. We went to Vegas, all right, one a few see a couple of years ago for the Summer League games, and in the morning they'd go bet on all the games they were gonna see, and

then they'd go to the games. I would say, if you're gonna bet like they don't like established players were like they were betting on the outcomes of the games. Oh yeah, they don't know. Yeah, and then going to the games and just having a whale of a time, you know, rooting for you know, rooting for the game. If I was a ballad like Murray Man, like like points, yeah like that. I mean,

yeah, so that's degenerate stuff. That's real degenerate stuff. But I let's just say I know some guys who did that a couple of summers ago, a few summers ago and had a great time, just had a blast at a real blast. Hey, the Dodgers are half a game behind the diamond back, so they got a chance to catch him before we get to the All Star break, which would be fun, get the diamond Backs out of first place, making quite lateing them think that they got a shot at this.

There you go, Bill, that was for you listener. Bill, he's listening, but he's gonna text us here in just a second. Okay, So let's take the break and get ahold of Carla. Carla garretta former Olympian and and uh A national champion datter Zone and now the strength and conditioning

coach at Cell Point. We'll be right back. Steve Rivera and Jacobs Salas they have their eye on the ball on Tucson Sports station Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Hey, welcome back to whine

about here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera alongside partner Jagins. Else knowing the phone, we have Carla Garrett from south Point cap the strength and conditioning guru there. Carla, how are you? I'm good, I'm good. Thank you? So I uh blew Jay's over and under saying that you were the secret sauce to to South Point with all the success, Given what their success has been over the recent years, how would you explain what's

going on over there? I think first and foremost, I had foaches that believed that strength of conditioning could possibly be an X factor in their already pretty good success. And then I had some athletes that bought into what I was trying to do and how I was trying to do it. And two,

the marriage between the two of them have been great. You know, those coaches that support me and athletes that believe in me, and the three of us have had some pretty good success over the past few years since I've been

back. You know, Carl, I know it goes without saying that the work behind the scenes like that, the weightlifting and the conditioning and all the stuff that goes on in the off season and away from the field, that's where you know, people talk about that's where you win games and whatnot,

and we've all heard stories about that. But when you're talking about high school kids who are coming into high school and just barely learning the ropes of competing, you know, how do you how do you get that through to them how important all of that is. Well, so there's there's a few that really fight me on it, and I kind of I kind of liked it too. When you when you get on a wild horse and you ride and you ride and you ride, and sooner or later you get that wild horse

under control. And so you know, obviously there's gonna be a few freshmen that are overwhelmed by how I coach, and it is a difficult thing to be a fourteen year old kid and walking to the weight room with me, and I'm barking at you and I'm demanding excellent from you. But eventually they figure it out, and eventually they realize that number one, I give a damn about them, and number two, I care about this program very very

much, and South Point has been incredibly good to me. So I value them, I'm loyal to them, and I want athletes to understand how how much of a privilege is to be at south Point and compete. So and you have some pretty good athletes who believe in you. Of course, yesterday's the big announcement with Elijah Russian and Kiona will Hit. You've done some tremendous work. Tell me about each of these kids. I'll start with Kiona.

Keiona came obviously with a very good build already, but what he didn't know how to do was lift, and he didn't know how to have intensity when he lifted. And so I think I've brought both of those things to the foregrounds. He's embraced it like nobody else. And I'll tell you what he's put on about twenty pounds in the last six months, and I'm fearful for kids that are going to come across that kid. This is just here,

so he's gonna be much better than he already is now. Oh and mostly, you know the confidence that the weightland gives you, Steve, it's it's a real different type of confidence. And it's stilly, really. I think show in his camp when he's gone to camp. I think he's aggressive. I think he believes in himself a whole bunch. And for me, that's you know, that's the easiest part of it all is to teach him how to lift. The hardest part is to get him to leave in himself.

And I'll tell you what, he's on top of the world right now, right next to Elijah. And Elijah came in. I mean, what was when when he walked in the door, what did you think? I thought he was a very shy, tall and thin kid. I thought that he was probably going to be someone who worked fairly hard because he didn't really say much. And you know, most of the time, if you're talking, you're not working. And he didn't come in talking. He came in with

his head down. He put his nose down and he just started working and working and working and working and working and basically doing everything that I asked him to do as hard as he could possibly do it. And you know, the two of us together in conversations where it's just been he and I I think we've we've fumed the bond together with how successful we both think that he can be and who he has become at this moment is not a surprise to

either one of us. How do you start a guy who's shy and probably an introvert and turn him into this guy who's a defensive band who's got to show aggressiveness. Is it kind of built in there or is it in there kind of just hiding. I think it's in there. It's kind of just hiding. And I think that you know, in our conversations, there's been times Steve or he's he's coming to my office and just sat on the floor and he's been on his phone and I've been doing work and we just kind

of chit chat sometimes or sometimes we don't. But I think the one thing that I did was I just talked to him, and I made him talk back to me, and so we formed this bond that we're able to talk and we talked about all kinds of different things, and he believes in me, and I've tried my hardest to turn him into what could be an unbelievable

animal this year. When you when you see an athlete like these two guys, or let's say be Jean Robinson or the you know, the the you know Bruno Fina, those guys that you know came went to your big schools, and when they come in as freshman or whenever you get them, when do you know that they've got quote unquote it right to be become that level of an athlete. Do most of them have it and you kind of know or does it develop over time? Well, I think you actually have both.

I mean I didn't see be Than as a freshman other than on film because I was in New Mexico working at the University of New Mexico. But I'll tell you I saw cam Dnson as a freshman, and cam Dnson as a freshman, you believe that you were about to see greatness when he was

a freshman. And so I think there are some kids where you see it immediately, and then I think there are other kids like Elijah who was one hundred and eighty pounds his freshman year, and you're looking at a kid now who's two hundred and fifty pounds and climbing, so you understand, you know, the work that he's put in. I've seen pictures of Lathan Ransom as a freshman and you probably wouldn't even recognize him compared to the way he looks

now, which obviously is just the same thing. He just puts his nose down and he works. Yeah, I know, there's I think it must believing you the talking the conversations, they even know who you are. I mean, I said that kind of funny, but but does that make sense because you've been around and obviously you have some pretty good credentials with a resume. Um, you know, I think they kind of know who I am. But it's more of a joke really. Anymore. I know who I

used to be. I don't need to to bring that to the forefront to prove myself to them. Every now and then, I have to show that I still have a little something in the tank, no matter what that may be. But no, I think my career is secondary to my strength and auditioning at this point. But I do believe that my career also leads to have a ton of cred in some of these young kids eyes because you know, not to not to toot my own horn. But it's not every day

you did an Olympian. Yeah, well I believe that that is really one of the things that some people value very very much. Well, I put my money on you against all of those guys, for sure. I mean I'm pretty sure I would. So, so it's you know, it's it depends on what day of the week and what it is. Every every now

and then I can do a little something. So so Carly, you know, over time, you know, this has become such a you know a thing where I mean, look when when when when we were coming out, Yeah, you know you had to go work out in the summer for football season and you really lifted and stuff like that. But this has become such an important part of these guys who want to become elite athletes and they have

to do this work or they're not going to become elite athletes. Where you kind of did it because you wanted to play, right, Uh, to tell me how that whole approach and attitude has evolved over time, particular when you're talking about you know, thirteen fourteen year old fifteen year old kids coming

into high school for the first time and having to experience all this. Uh, well, I think obviously there's been such a change when you start to integrate the social media aspect and you start to integrate the fact that that everybody can see what what you perform at. You know, you can film your training, you can film your games, and so it gives you such a bigger platform, I think to showcase yourself, even even at a young age.

You know, you got ten ye flag football, you got ten year seven on seven and so I think there's just a more of a platform for you to, for lack of a better phrase, market yourself. And so in that you kind of have to if you're going to sell yourself, well, you got to get the work done in order to sell yourself, because if you put yourself out there on film, people are gonna know whether or

not you're training or not by yourself. So I'm a firm belief that most people who just put their heads down and work, they become the most successful. And I think if you look through South, it's over the last you know, fifteen years, there the hardest working kids coming in. They retain the working kids, the Johnny Penyas, Theo Downs, you know, kids kids of that era, the Lathans, the bruno As, the hell the Jonah Miller's. So those kids be successful on the way in, and you're

not surprised when they're successful on the way out. I'm also assuming that you you work with the other sports as well, not just football, given the success of the basketball teams and you know Kelly obviously with soccer and things like that. Uh is there is there a difference in the lifting that you do. Oh no, listing bodies, absolutely not. You know, the baseball

team and the softball team they trained pularly. You know, I've had incredible success with softball boats at the UFA UM and here at South Point, and so I think I kind of have a grasp of that. But at the end of the day, Steve, you have to put a bar in your hands, you have to move weight really fast, you have to sprint, you have to jump, and you have to do the basics to be a good athlete. It's not rocket science, but there is something behind it.

If you had to give advice to any let's say, eighth grader, you're getting ready to go to high school and they want to play sports at whatever school they go to, and it's the summer before they're going to start their freshman year. What would you tell them to spend their summer doing as far as stuff like this goes, but start working out. But I think of see what gets lost? And this whole thing is you know, year round seven on seven, a year round aau And when the hell did these kids

go to the movie with their friends? Yeah, other than playing video games. I don't see kids kids anymore. When when I was a kid, I was a great but I was also a great athlete because I played tennis and soccer and softball and baseball and volleyball and basketball, and I wrote a B and I roller skating, and I did all kinds of different things. Kind of formed my athleticism. And so I would tell kids, don't focus too much in the eighth stade. They'll be a kid there you go.

Yeah, so let me embarrass you real quick. Every time I see I see Carlin taught her the best athlete to ever come out of Santa Fe, New Mexico. And the last time I saw her, we were at Costco. She was pretty stuff away and this is this random She's Steve New Mexico, not just Santa Fact. Get it right, right, I told you already that I put my resume up against Brian R. Luck. You're right because he's a carlsman at the time. But Carla and I teaser because we

were in the neighborhood right in the dale Bellum era. She went to Conia, went to Nova, and her legend was legend back in the day. She was twelve and she kicked the crap out of a baseball. She would hit the heck out of it. You remember those days, right? Oh? Of course, of course. I feel like I feel like al Bundy from Mary Reminiscent about the good. I love the very proud. I'm very proud of my career. I'm very very proud of the athlete that I was.

There wasn't too many people that came out of Santa Fe, New Mexico that the athletic career that I had, and so I'm incredibly proud of it. Um. It's definitely in my rear view minute window, but I remember it like it was just today. So let me go with that. You were here, you can be Ubay had a long time career, and then you went home. You went to Albuquerque at least worked with you and m and then you came back. Why did you come back? If I'm gonna

be honest with you, Steve, I didn't see. I was a new coach that came there, and you know, he didn't treat me as well as I believe that I should be treated. I don't think I got the respect from him that I deserved with the amount of time that I've had in this profession. And so I just said to myself that I'm I'm not going

to be treated poorly. I'm better than this. And I knew that eventually, if it didn't work out there, that I could come back here and somehow, through the connections I've made and my character and my reputation in this town, that I could get another job. And so my first phone call was to Todd Hotels over at Pima, who is arguably one of my greatest supporters, one of the best coaches I've ever worked with, and he said, Carla, the moment you come back, you can start training my team,

and that's basically what happened. Nice and then you and then now you're you're working with more than your South Point. Uh no, right now, I'm full time. I had to unfortunately give up training coach holtals this team because it was just too much. I have five teams right now over at South Point, and I'll run the weight room. So if my days are very very full, yeah, there you go. Fantastic. Are you're having fun? Right? Oh? Listen, I've never had a bad day at

work. I feel very fortunate that that I fell into a profession that number one I love very much. Number two I'm pretty good at. And number three I've had longevity in right. All right, Well, glad to hear your voice, Carla. I know some people inside if you're probably listening to us. Good luck. We'll be talking to you again. Thank you, Steve, appreciate Jay. All right, thank you, Carlo. Talk to

you so great, great Carla, Garrett fun. Yeah, you know, one of the best, right, yeah, for the best ever at Arizona. Again. You want to talk about a face of athletics at Arizona, right when you're talking about somebody who was in the Olympic, well, a bunch of national championships, you know, you say Carl Garrett Tucson and people go, oh, right, I remember her when I got here in eighty seven, her the name, of course I grew up in that area.

I'm a little older than her. Then you make reach those fantastic people who've who've done so much and who did things that were maybe for some people hard to see, right right right, right right right. You know, you're you're, you're, you're the you're the strength coach, and so yeah, I mean more and more you're you're hearing more about the strength coaches and the impact they have, but still kind of behind the scenes kind of stuff. Sure, and if they do a bad job, let me it shows.

Let me tell you Jay. And there's also she's a woman, right, she's a woman. I mean, how much do you have to overcome to maybe let that happen in novel croupe or whatever where. Well, I don't, I don't want to do this because you're a woman. And and who's gonna who's gonna kick your bus? Right, Okay, let's take our break. We're gonna come back in. Steve Rivera and Jakin Salez they have their eye on the ball on two suns Sports stage chef Fox Sports fourteen fifty streaming live on the iHeartRadio. A am, hey, welcome back to win the ball here Fox Sports fourteen fiftie. I'm Steve Rivera, you're Jakin's ass. Got yeah here at the end of the week, fourteen minutes. What do you have for us? All right? So the Athletics put out a college football fan survey. Um, they just want, you know, want to know what are the issues out there

for fans right now. So we'll run through as much as this as we can. I think it's kind of fun. I'll submit this and we'll see they they'll they'll do a results later on. They said, this survey is on until Thursday. Um, you have to be a subscriber to The Athletic, which I am. So I'm gonna put this under my name too, even though this is gonna be our collective opinion here, and if you have some stuff that you want to add to this, give us a call.

We'll we'll take it. So let's so the first question is what is your attitude or attitude toward the future of college football with very concerned being a one up to ten being very excited. Um, I'm just gonna say I'm leaning towards I'm kind of down the middle of leaning more towards the very concerned because I'm just, um, I'm just concerned about too, you know, with all the with all the you know, all those seeing all these things that

are happening. You know, I'm concerned, still excited. What's the number? What's the number? One? One through ten? What'd you get it? I haven't given it anything. We're gonna give it. Okay, that's that's what do you think? I'm along your lines? Five? Maybe a four or six six six. Yeah, we'll give that a sick And I wouldn't even know what would get it to seven, you know, because everything you said spot on for me. Right Yeah? Well here okay, and

here's here. Well here's the next question. What do you think is the biggest issue facing college football? Managing rosters and transfer portal, managing name, image and likeness, conference re alignment, lack of parody or other il Yeah, nil, And I don't know. The money is crazy and we don't even know what the money is, right, and you know, you just assim it's crazy. Whether there's a lot of issues with n I am right sure, how much money is involved, who's getting it, where's it coming

from? All of them? I feel like, yeah, and that's gonna have continue to have a huge packed on college football. All right, Um, next question, how do you feel about Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC and USC and UCLA joining the Big Ten? One is hate it, ten is love it. I'm a one. I'm a one. I hate it. I hate it because it's caused all this other stuff. Yeah, I'll go with you. I think it's stupid the Texas and Oklahoma in the SEC.

When they were doing just fine. They couldn't. They weren't even winning enough, particularly Texas in the Big twelve, And now they're going to the SEC, which screws everything up. How do they think they're going to get better? And USC and us LA in the in the Big ten mix zero sense and we'll always be zero sense. Well, it's the first step of what you gonna happen. I say, I say three, you say three, you say it four. Well I say one, So let's go through

the three. We'll go three on now, all right, um, how does your enjoyment of consuming college football now compared to ten years ago? Steve Yours is going to be like a one as I enjoy it much less, two as I enjoy it much more. But one you're one. One I enjoy it about the same as I have. So I'm gonna say like five because well wait, wait, one to ten? Yeah, well you said one. Two you shaid to one to ten. So one is I enjoy it much less? Ten as I enjoy it much more. I'm up.

Five, I'm right down. Then I'm about where I was, where I've always been. Yeah, I thought I was just one and two. Yeah, five is good? Okay, I'm indifferent to it because it's the same. Yeah. Do you find it difficult or too expensive to access the games you want to watch? I say no, I agree, yes, yeah pretty easy going to games isn't horribly expensive? Yeah? Okay. Should players

get a share of conference television revenue? No? I think they should get paid, But I don't think they should get a senage right of revenue. Right, they've already those athletes, We cover them, We know who they are. They're doing very well. Yeah, okay, this is did you know them? You know them, you played with them? Yeah, um, they're doing even when they weren't getting paid, they were doing okay, and not just because of college. But they get a lot of perks anyway.

Yeah, and this spelling me being too old for But but no, they don't know yes, yes or no? Okay, yes or no. Would you like to see players become employees of their universities? No? No, no, no, no, that's too much work. That's university all right. What is the ideal size of the college football playoff two, four, eight, twelve or more than twelve sixteen? You think something? I like what they've done with the twelve team tournament. I like what they've done

with the twelve. Okay, with the twelve. Yeah, that's the next Yeah, twelve is the only option? All right? Who is your pick to win the national title in twenty twenty three? There's a there's a whole list. Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, LSU, Florida State, USC Notre Dame, Clemson, Texas, Washington, Penn State, or other. Who's your r pick? Yeah? I want to say Georgia three in a row? Yeah, see, I had to pick against them just

because they're not winning three in a row. Okay, okay, So who's your pick? Oh? You have mine, So I'm gonna go Okay, I'm gonna go with Obama. They're the prohibitive view. You agree with Bamma? Yeah, okay, it's a boring parent. I think there's gonna be one the two. Okay, we'll pick up either or who's wrong, right

exactly? We'll pick Alabama? Okay. A couple more questions. Which first year Power five coach is most likely to succeed at his new school Kenny Dillinghammad a Su, Hugh Freeze, Auburn, Scott Centerfie, Cincinnati, Don Sanders, Colorado, Rent Key at Georgia Tech, Jeff Braum Louisville, Zach Barnett Mississippi State, Matt Rule at Nebraska, Ryan Walters, Perdue, Troy Taylor,

Stanford, Luke Fickle Wisconsin. What's the who's gonna what's the first the Power five coach most likely to succeed at his new school most likely to succeed? Um, I know, I'm thinking either Matt Rule or Luke Fick. I was gonna say, I was gonna say Matt Rule. I think he's a pretty good thing. I think he's a good college coach, I think.

And Nebraska is just kind of screwed up. Yeah, it's waiting to be good again, right right, right, And that's for that reason, yeah, him, Yeah, we can go with Matt Rule because my relaire, there was one other one looked fickle at Wisconsin. Okay, No, I think the Nebraska one's good. Okay, let's go Matt Rule, all right? Which first year Power five coach is least likely to succeed at his

new school? And it's all the same guys. Kenny Dillingham at a s U, Hugh Freeze Auburn, Scott Sadderfield, Cincinnati, Deon Sanders Colorado, Brent Key at Georgia Tech, Jeff Bram Louisville, Zach Garnet Misissippi State, Matt Rule Nebraska, Ryan Walters, Perdue, Troy Taylor's stand for Luke Fickle at Wisconsin. Least likely I've got three, I've got two. Um, maybe I think he's gonna You think he's gonna crash and burn? Yeah, I think you know, expectations are a lot higher than probably than you to

be. So I'm gonna go. I wanna go to Dillingham Old Georgia Tech. I'm gonna say I'm mine are Georgia Tech, Dion or um uh Sadderfield at Cincinnati because there was something going on there. You know that they had the perfect coach, right. Cincinnati is not gonna be an easy place to win because now they're in the Big twelve on top of that. But to me of the I want to say Dion Sanders because you know, because of his ego, I wanted to get a get a taste of what it looks

like, you know when when you don't do so well. But it's hard to win a gearge attack, right, And that's why, and that's why it's really no matter who's George Attack Attack. Okay, we're going to Georgia Tech. All right, all right, all right, And the last question, are you rooting for Dion Sanders just to seed or fail at Colorado? I'm reading from so so Mike, because he's just an interesting character. Jay,

I don't know if you believe this. I don't. I don't know about this with you, Jason. Um, I watch I see I don't watch it purposely, but I see his stuff on Twitter, and and he's he's a smart dude. If he's a marketing he's the dude who's selling you shoes in the back of his car, right he's and he's selling shoes. Yeah, and look at again the guy as we as we say, we say it in a different way. But the guy who can sell poop to a goose. Yeah, yeah, and that's I've never heard that but okay,

okay, you've never heard that one. I use it all the time. I'm not I'll use it, but okay, that's the guy. So I think that the kids are gonna the kids are gonna play for him, right. The question is does he have good kids? And the correct they couldn't be worse than it have been. The last two or three years, so they couldn't be the worse. It's like Jed. I mean, no one thought Jed would do this. Yeah, what's the thing that Jed the

dion can't do this? Well, here's the thing. I'm not rooting for him to fail because I'm not that guy, right, what who kidnapper jay O? Come on? Okay, if Dean Sanders was at a SU I'm rooting for him to fail. Okay, I'm never rooting for him to fail at Colorado. You know, I think he look, I think he's good for packed football. Oh, people are talking about the packs. He's He's created a buzz around Colorado, and therefore he's created a buzz around uh around

the PAC twelve. So I'm not rooting for him to fail. I'm not one hundred percent sure. I want to root off the charts for him to succeed and go ten and ten and two in his first season. Yeah, but I'm not sitting here saying I hope you go on twelve. I'm not doing that. Yeah. I think this. I think the sub subov competition he's gonna have to face is not gonna be I do think that other coaches

are hope are are pushing for him to succeed. There's there's there's some above Steve, Well, there's there's Yeah, there's a lot of there's a lot of coaches and people out there who kind of want to see Dion put in this no question, no question. So you know, but it's so far, you know, his life and his career has been one win after another. Sure, sure, he's his success doesn't fall accidentally from the sky. Right, he's good. He's good. He's good. He's good at stuff.

I mean, you win, you if you're a winner, you're not a win, right, He's good at stuff. So I'm gonna say succeed. Yeah, okay, so that's that's our that's our call. All right, let's take the call before I submit. Hi, you're on the air and I on the ball. Hi. One real quick thing about Dion Sanders that you guys are taking a new place. Okay, go ahead, go

ahead, you're you're on the air, so go ahead. Well hisself, his health, Oh yes, well yeah, look, yeah, I you know, I don't want anything bad to happen to him as far as that goes. No, I don't want anything bad to happen either. But what he's been through. You don't recover at that age real well from something like that. Yeah, that shouldn't be hard. So your point is what just

keep that into into check or yeah, keep that into consideration. He doesn't have the mobility to go out and recruit right now, even though that's his main job that he I'm sure he's not the only one doing that. Good point. So let me ask you different being on the field all the time on your seed. Um, so let me ask you have you made Let me ask you have you been impressed with his situation so far? Um? I mean, do you like what he's doing? Okay? No, either

you think you don't write No, and that's understandable. No, that, that's and that. And there's a lot of people who feel that way. I don't know if they're rooting against them, but they a lot of crap. You're not a believer. You're not a believer. Thank you for you. Listen to the show and don't like craph No, I like you guys crap. But um, you know, like right know me what you could do? Did you did you? What did you feel about Jed when he

first got here? My son helped me to give up my season tickets, and I said, well, I'm the band supporter. I'm an alumni band person. And I said, no, I don't go for jids the football. So I'm keeping my tickets and I've been pleased. I've been happy. Good for you. It was better than what we had. I stapped through the macvic. I sapped through someone. So did you give up on your son? He didn't go that much laughter here with me, but you know, hey, there you go. All right, Hey, thank you for

your call. We appreciate it. I believe in Jed, not my son. Fun he's a blowhard. Well he is, he definitely. I mean, that's a that's a perfect way to put it. But the question is, because of that, are you pulling for him or not pulling for him, or you're not pulling for him because of that. I'm not. I'm not, again, as I said, I'm not pulling against him, because if he falls flat on his face, that's also bad for the Pac twelve.

But you know, if he gets put in his place a little bit and realizes, you know, what it takes to win at this level and be good at this level, and maybe that's a good thing, and you know, he'll find his footing. That's no pun intend I thank you will. Yeah, I'm good. Call. Thank you very much for calling. Hey, that was a lot of fun. She didn't see her name. We've met her color for you. Yeah all right. So that's it.

That's uh, that's what we got. Gives a fun week. Uh. Congratulations again to Arizona and Jet Fish on on the recruiting and Carl Garrett, thanks so much for being here. Doug Tameron, thanks for it's being here. We'll see you on Monday.
