This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen Howard by Nova Insurance Services. Make sure your most prized possessions Katz R two Son and iHeart Radio Station. Hey, good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to Why on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera. Jay is up today on the road. I have a guest toast today, one of my great sponsored guys, Andy Brown. How are you

any great happy Friday having me today? Thanks for bringing in the cool air. It's only better hit me out of heat, you guys. The ice spots we're gonna do. I put it to seventy two just to make everybody happy. Sixty to sixty eight not available. I don't want to freeze, man, I don't want to freeze. We got a guy Jason with us today. Thank you Jason for coming in or otherwise this thing would not be happy. Yeah, I'll have to get to today. We're gonna have white.

I like having you Andy because we get to a lot of different things. Yeah, you have a pretty even kill perspective on a few things, and as well you will know PAC twelve Media what day. Today was today and today was that continuing in Vegas, Yeah, and Arizona went about ten thirty with with with jet Fish of course and Jade Delora and Stukes. So a lot of the things said on the podium, I'm sure more was said behind the scenes when they got to get their one on ones. I haven't

seen much of that as as some of the reporters are out there. But of course let's start at the be top, just involving the Pact twelve. No news is good news or no news is bad news, no news on any media media. Yeah, yeah, he says he kind of misspoke. Play of cop said did you kind of listen to us where he said, we'd be telling you, but it suited And then they said, oh, you look too much into it. If sometime's worth leaking, it would be

leak. Sure right, they have nothing. They have nothing. And he didn't mean to say what he said, and he surely not the way he said it, because one of our guys we have on the show every now and again from Oregon came back and asked him, did you mean to say that you have it, but you're talking about it because you want the concert? No, we're not, we don't have it yet. And then he says, the longer we wait, the better deal we're gonna get it.

That's kind of like marriage. The longer I wait, the prettier the girl that's gonna come Fay straight from Vegas right there. The more money I put in this machine, the chances I haven't read no, because if they had a deal, guess what they would do. And they post it, tell it, tell it, they tell her why not? Right? I saw he's gonna be all it's gonna be really good. People have been patient, are gonna be And I'm like, okay, so I know where I know

where I stand. Jason kind of are on the same page. Yeah, when they tell us, they tell us right exactly. We're not gonna lose any sleep over it. And Jay has been anxiously anxiously waiting for it, but now he's kind of more to our side. Yeah, right, whatever happens, that happens, where do you sit? Well, you kind of need it's kin, you need to have that deal done, and but you also need to know who's replacing the two teams that right, and you can't

are we leaving anybody? Are we losing anybody else? And you can't have one without the other, right, and the TV deals first comes first, the chicken or the egg. Well, the egg ain't coming to the chicken cut? And which ones come first? Right? I get it, um, But you have to have one before the other, and the first one. They're not sane, they're not safe because they don't have anything like I don't. You can't have a deal if you don't have a full allotment of

teams going into twenty twenty. Sure, I'm going to the problem next week. I just don't know who's going, right, But I bought two tickets. Who've had two tickets? I might go by myself, and it's likely I'll go by myself. Memories. That frustrating. I mean, I like to watch back to all sports when i'm you know, not working, but I can't get them on TV. I can't get on YouTube, I can't get on the right. That's frustrating. Sure, sure we should. Well

we've been saying this for a year. We should find it out sometime soon. And they keep premising the probably saying without Carroty, you don't worry, you'll get it. You'll get it, you know. And and when they get it, they get it. We'll see what happens. But a big day and obviously the big news out of Arizona is uh or was that Jaden Delora spoke about his alleged incident as a high school student. Uh. Uh you know, a sexual situation, uh, which was unfortunate back then and

then continues to be very six years. That's a very serious situation on both sides for all parties, right right, very Den and jet Fish I talked about it too, So both of them talked about it. Uh. They were asked and they answered, I think we have some clips. It might take a little while. Let's go with Jed first because it kind of sets things up the years of season. Um we were situation and what we learned is that Jada never played guilty, was never found gabilty in any crimes.

Um. And really for us, um that that's what we could move off of, and that's what we could understand. That we can't make decisions or it would be unfair to make decisions based upon information we don't have, and there is no information. There won't be any information that is available under the light law. Everything sealed and expunged, so there really is nothing for us to learn and what we can ask words for Jaden m and theday be the

best possibility to need to meet for us. Um our culture is very important as I mentioned, and um all we can do is listen to the people that knew him the best, that knew the most amount of information. And when he and I and his family golf found out about this lawsuit in September, our university active is good as possible. Kind of explaining his side of it, it was more more of the win Arizone on you about it and and what they decided to do with it. Obviously he's still on the team.

They took that action and because everything's shut down at toy level, at the at the youth level, you can't get to the facts. And then Jayden talked about it shortly after. Let's get to that and then we could talk more about it. We're back at Pactuel Football media day in Las Vegas with some Arizona Wildcats and we were just talking to coach Fish. I know there's a lot of excitement around this team. Yeah, yeah, they are fellas good to see you trading Stuke's former walk on now team captain. On

the defensive side, it's amazing Jane Delora. Jane, I want to start with you. A lot of dialogue around you off the field this offseason. You have not addressed that yet. Would you like to address that now? Yeah, I kind of wrote out something, kind of been really thinking about this since everything came out, so put the bike up a little closer. UM. So I want to start off by saying, I understand importance is a question that's been asked over these times, as well as the fact that

as journalists and everything, everybody has a job to do. But just believe me that there's nothing I would like to do but clear my name if I could defend myself from what's being written. However, and I hope you understand that I'm bombed by the law to not discuss this matter at all, and I just do not intend to break the law. What I can say today is that I'm grateful for the University of Arizona for setting the facts in this

matter and allowing me to continue my education as a student athlete. I would also like to thank UM Thomas Sataki and Philip Miyoshi UM for correcting the misinformation that's been reported UM that stated that I played guilty or was convicted as actually assault, which is what was written. UM, and its privileged to be the quarterback at the University of Arizona. UM. I want to show the Wildcat community that I'll continue to be responsible and respectful leader on the field and

the classroom and in life. And with that being said, I kind of would like to turn our focus to football now. So part of the problem of the whole story, Uh, it was what's been written, what's been said. Apparently many people have written that he pled guilty to to the sexual assault but was not given the jail sentence, and he has denied it through his attorneys have denied it, and so no one knows the facts. And well a lot of people know the facts. The thing is sealed. It's

it's sealed, so no one to know the real story publicly. UM. And and you know, and Arizona is backing him because nothing was done of civilly or um criminally. Sorry, thank you. The recourse was a civil How how you know you're a former student, Uh, you're now an Alam You're a huge Arizona fan. How does that sit with you? It's a tough situation all around. I think, UM, you have to respect the

law, and you have to respect the process. Yeah, so I hate when people jump to conclusions and jump the system and not let it play out. But also it's it's an emotional topic, not something you you can easily take emotion out of. So I get the part from both sides, right, Um, I would just hope that both sides allow the law to work. It's supposed to go right, right, So well, yeah, we'll

see, We'll see what happens. I think. I think one of the questions, I don't know if I would have asked this, but I would have asked him privately on the side, not in the in the forum that it was. But they asked him about him being a human being and how it's taking its toll or kind of like that, and he kind of broke down. He started he started to uh, not sob but you know, tear up and talk about his family, how it was important to them that

they were safe and things like that. Exactly wouldn't you, which is obvious and it would make me tear up as well. Um, And that's a big deal. And I've said this with Jay on the show. How is it going to affect him as serious as it is in the day to day and as you play, because you're not going to get friendly voices. Oh there's two sides of it too. There's you know, your focus gets a

little bit. I think when you have outside um distractions, sometimes good players focus inward and focus in on the on their craft, right, great point. Yeah, so I've seen it both ways. I've seen it tear people apart. So it's a matter of how he's made it up and how it's gonna yeah. Yeah. And it's a support system, yes, And it's the biggest one people around you that a lot of you are supporting you and

are telling you the things you need to hear. You're good. But if those people are not telling you what you need to hear, you're going to fall apart. Yeah, you need that support system, sure, right, No, it just sounds like and coming from Hawaii that is a huge family based culture, right, So he's gonna have that, right, But yeah, it's gonna it's gonna affect his focus at some point because you know what's going to give it to him the most. Yeah, opposing fans, Right,

He's gonna get that everywhere he goes. So, and it's not gonna be pretty, no, no, no, so so we'll see what happens. Unfortunate situation, but it was something that you know that Canada's finally over at least with the questions and the answers, and now we can move on and we can move on and whatever happens from from that, we'll see. We'll see you or not see what comes of it. Okay, Um, so they're picked eighth in the league. We talked about this with Jason and

Jay. Eighth. That's I think that's fair. That's fair. I think it gives Jed something to push for, you know, to kind of have that chip on his shoulder. I think, yeah, And I think I read that what he said he was we liked to be under dog. We want to go into this season people underestimating us so we can surprise it, right. And he did say that this was the best team he's had here. I think that's obvious. In fact, I think it's the best team

he's had everyone has had here in five six years. I mean, there are those teams that someone had were just absolutely horrible. It's almost cust and that's pretty Yeah, there's my proof your honor. Yeah. That and Jed didn't have it easy for the first two because of the previous situation with the players are getting bigger, stronger, faster. Uh. The thing The thing about it, just um, Andy, and you were a former an athlete. You saw this. Well, you're getting better. So are other teams.

Sure, as you know back in the day when you had Damon and Palid, I'm sure. I'm sure somewhere in your guy's minds as a team, I thought you were the best team college basketball that year. Absolutely, then all of a sudden Arkansas showed up. Always bring that up. But my point, my point is you could be the toughest dude on your block. You know, I bypass Arkansas anytime I go to the East coast, just drive right around it. I'll go four states. Take a charge,

man, take a charge down there. Take a charge. You want to go to Favorte Bill Again. I watched that the other day. That forty minutes the hell or whatever it is, that's thirty for thirty. Yeah, I just created watching it. But but that's that's my point is everybody's getting

better. But but everyone's getting better, but so are other teams. Sure, But I also like how Jed's doing it through high school players, Like that's his whole recruiting philosophy goes, I'm gonna build it through the high school kids up and develop them. Yeah, but I'm gonna use the transfer portal to field gaps. I'm not gonna live on it. I'm gonna field gas when they need to do. When you go, do you go to two games to you don't work? You don't work it football games. I'm up

there working yet. Oh you aren't working? Are you able to watch? Watch right down the road from you? You're in the okay, oh, in the same sweet sat Mary, you watching games? Are you kind of just ushering people through? Oh? No, I'm in the incident command. So I'm up there with all their different jurisdictions. Okay, we're making sure people are doing what they're supposed to do up there. Okay, okay, good to know that your media food and it's really good. No, what's

hot dog? Yeah? Great? Yeah? Then you're working it off right, barbecue saucy day. That's great, you try to work it off. I'm here, like you know, can I have another one? Yeah? Hey, we have a quick shut of day. We're gonna have Heath bray On talking more about Arizona bas Arizona Football. Hey, welcome back towel on a boy year ol Fox Sports fourteen Cookie, I'm Steve Rivera. Sen with me today as guest hosts Andy Brown and now on the phone, former Ulevate football player Heat Pray. How are you heat hey? Steve? How are you doing, buddy? We're doing okay? Big day to day pack twelve football. Did you pay

attention to what was going on? I paid attention yesterday to the rankings and the thing ranked eight but anything better than that happened today of these our cat Now I'm being serious because I actually have worked all day to day, so I haven't gotten a chance to do my review of the day's events. Okay, so we'll talk about what happened today in a second. Let's talk more about the poll. Sit well with you or not? It does? I remember, Stephen, you and I've known each other long enough to know that

when I was playing, we would get picked. You know, we had ten teams, we get picked eighth nights, and we come back and had I think we had the winnings program during the ten year period from eighty five to ninety five, you know, the second Winn's program in the pack. So it doesn't bother me as much. I don't think we've done anything to really earn a higher seed than that. Um. I think that they're doing a phenomenal job of recruiting, and I do believe it we're going to finish

higher night. But it also doesn't put yourminus amount of pressure on you. I kind of like being a little bit of the the you know, underestimated over delivered type stance. Yeah, well, how do you feel about it? Let me ask you which they're on you. I think it's accurate. I think it's it's about right. But I was gonna ask you too, Um, so you played under dictomy a very straightforward dude, not very high,

not very low. What would you what, well, how would you think that he would take the jet fish era as it stands right now? Well, I tell you, I think that he's gonna what. The first thing he's gonna do is he's gonna say, but hell together a health staff. Um. And that is one of the biggest things that coaches get measured by who is who is the twelve to fifteen guys they have a underneath them.

I think Jed has done a phenomenal job of that. I do believe that he is um, more of a kind of sales he kind of recruiting kind of guy than coach tell me was um And I don't and I'm not saying that as negative. It is just a difference in style. I do believe that they are They're they're vastly different, um, but I do believe they're both men of high integrity and at the becquit more and more rare these days, Steve, they really are, Yeah, that kind of guy I

agree with you, we'll see what We'll see what happens. Um. Um, It's okay. So now to the biggest news of the day, obviously the Dolores situation. And what do you make of that being a former player, Uh, I don't think there was a few incidences that happened when you were a student athlete year, but I go to this degree, I don't think. How is it when you're a teammate of a guy like that. Well, what happens is is that there's a lot of times you don't know

what's going on. Um. We had some guys that had um some issues with fighting. UM. And it was about four or five guys my freshman year. And I don't want to bring up the guy's names and throw them out of the bus. They were there were some guys that could remove from the team permanently, about three guys. One went to Utah, one went to Memphis. One ever, I don't think ever played again. Um.

And the thing is is that you Steve. It's like anything else. If you're hanging around somebody that's doing some knuckleheads stuff like that, and if you start acting like some of the accusations that we're hearing about some of the other guys. As far as some of the the abuse stuff. I mean, you gotta get you gotta get the hell away from those guys or get them

the hell out your team. M And I'll tell you that's something that get his uniform with guys that really care, they will make those they will make those lock rooms very uncomfortable for people like that. It's funny you bring that up, and I have Andy Brown with me. I don't know if you know Andy from just after you left. He played for the U A basketball

team. So so right, Northwestern's being investigative. Everyone talks about that saying and some of the lawyers say that it's uh, it's pervasive or throughout the college situation. How difficult. Okay, so let's say it's that's what it is or isn't. But let's seep just for the singles that how difficult would it be You have your friends and your colleagues under the same team who are

knuckleheads to say I'm not for ready guys. You know, I know you can easily say it now because we're not in part of it, but at the time when you're in it, it's like, how do I fix this? Well, I'll tell you what coach Toldy did with us. He said, listen, I don't you guys have got to have police yourself. And he says, I'm gonna have it. I'm gonna I'm gonna tell to you

right now, I'm you guys fix this. And he got the whole staff and they walked out of the room and the next thing we know, there's one hundred and twenty guys sitting in a room look at each other going, huh, did you hea't got to have a conversation about this? Did you have a natural leader that kind of stepped up in that situation on your squatter?

Was there always a guy that everybody looked to? You know, it's funny you say that, because there are some guys, and usually it's the guys that don't speak up very often they get the most amount of respect. Um. There's always gonna be some guys that are um, that are that are looked upon to be in the leadership positions that you know you automatically like, for example, when that happened, I was a freshman. If that would have happened when I was a senior, I would have been one of

the guys that they looked looked. You know, the eyes in the room shift to um. But my eyes shifted too to some of the seniors that we had. You know, obviously the Singleton Brothers were huge at the time. Joe Toppemeyer was huge. I mean those guys we wanted, we wanted some some leadership from the top down, and those guys were you know, that's just something that that football is a different game than a lot of people under estimate when they when he compared to other sports, because it is.

It is about as close to a meritocracy as you can get. And it's a big group. And it's a big group. Yeah, And it's a big group. And there are some alpha males in that room that have earned every bit of respect they get. And if you do not give them the respect you they deserve, trust me, they will get it from you one way or another. Yeah. No, that's a good point. And you're not gonna do anything if you're not one of those dudes and you go against

good luck with that. Well, I'll tell you what. The real dummies are the ones that speak up that don't have any any of the any of the respect in the room. And those are the gay most of the time. You even if you're a talkative guy, when things like that happening, you've got to go to the leaders. You keep your mouth shut and you listen. Yeah, yeah, makes sense, totally makes sense. That was

clin on our team. It was because when I were in college and he was just soft spoken, and you know, if he got angry, I mean, it should happened a couple times in games. If he gets angry, I mean you could tell he's got it. He's got a depth to him that that just does not automatically come out, you know, in an obvious fashion. I love that about him. So did it happen a couple of times? A couple of times? H You just say, there was all of a sudden and Clint like, oh Clid spoke. Everybody just shut

up. Yeah, everybody the bus just got quiet, and it was like, oh, coligious and it has meaning. So okay, that was it. Yeah, Michigan forty goodness there still shut up a couple of times on the bush the back of the bus. Yeah, shut up. Do you miss those days, Heath, I'm sure you do well. The days as far as locker room, the days of playing in the locker room, Well, the thing is is that obviously football is a game you can't really play

as you get older. I mean, I've got fifty year old friends who still playing pick up basketball, and I've got you know, coach Tony played baseball until he's in his sixties, which you can't do that with football really, So you do miss the game itself. But I will tell you to a man, if there's anybody and that disagrees with me and this, and they're not the same kind of guy I am. You missed the locker room.

You miss that more than you miss you miss any of the attention, any of the media, the you know at tension from the fair sex you know on Saturdays that you get from from the young ladies and stuff like that, But none of that matters in anywhere near comparison to the locker room.

The buddies that you have, and I mean even the bad things to happen in the locker room stay in the locker room and the camaraderie and that those are the things that you don't You're lucky if you get to experience them again in your lifetime. Yeah, well you've had a chance, Well do you, guys? Unions and things like that. I think you guys had one here next week, don't you. I you talk, you talking to me? Yea, we've got well, I don't think we have a reunion.

We have a I'm going up to play in a golf tournament with Fish and some of the staff and rich Tony and some of the old teammates of mine. I thought it was a reunion. Maybe it's a get together or something like that or it. Yeah, there's a PCA thing that I'm going to up at the rim and pace and on the twenty seventh. Okay, well next week, and that's gonna be rich Tomey and coach Fish and I think davek is gonna be up there, and um a bunch of teammates and stuff.

Nick tell me, guys, so when you get together, and I was as this of Vandy two from time to time, I'm sure the the five yard touchdown turns into a fifteen yard touchdown, and the stories, the stories getting a little well, let me tell you right now, it only turns into a fifteen yard touchdown if none of your other teammates are around you, if you're telling it to strangers, Because if you tell it in front of your teammates. Your teammates will cut you off at the knees immediately if

you try to embellish anything. Trust me, they will not let you get away with that. Oh man, I'll tell you that that's one of the things too, that their teammates that there's anybody who's gonna hold you in check and beat you the humble pie you need. Sometimes it's your teammates. If you come down and watch a couple of games every year, I know, I think that's true. What do you expect to share outside of them finishing eighth historically and you know this, there is when it finds ways to beat

teams and then sometimes somewhere they get beat by teams that shouldn't lose. To man, well, I think that one of the things that helps us avoid that um of you know, recent times a lot of times is because when you have a more dynamic offense, you you're able to kind of make it a little bit more consistent and say it's what I've I've found. I think that they've got some some very good consistency they brought to the offensive side of

the ball. So I think that'll that'll that'll bring some level of consistency. Hopefully now hopefully I'm not wrong, but that's I think that's the way I see it. Yeah, yeah, no, I think Tomer Lloyd does the same thing. We score a lot of points to give us some leeway, so they won't you go, if we're playing bad case we're missing uh tackles on defense, or in case that running back is not buying the holes, or there the offensive line time and a tough time, or they're they're nailing

a couple of calls on defense. If you get it, if you get able to get out and get get some buffer, it allows you to stomach thoes when you're playing you know, one two three point ball games like we did back in the day. You missed, you missed an assignment a guy. I mean, shoot, Steve, we lost in Miami and the Orange

Ball eight to seven. We lost the Arizona State seven to six. I mean, you know, I think, right, you can't you can't know, you can't make a single mistake if you're only winning one point ball, yeah, I'll play. Or two costs you a game or two? Yeah, no question, no question. So Jet something to said something that kind

of struck me. In order to recruit he says, especially what happened with the previous coach is in order to recruit some defensive players, some good ones, he had to build the offense so that they knew they'd be playing for a good team because at least they knew that they would have a team that would score, that they wouldn't have to be played defense all the time.

Makes sense, Well, it does make sense, and I'm witnessing it right now with some of the high school stuff I'm seeing going on because you know, it started back with Kurt Flood with free agency, and then the portal thing hit over with the colleges and now high schools they're following the transfer model. And coach tell me was a developmental model guy. He very rarely went to duco. He was a guy that wanted to develop guys within a system.

Nowadays, why develop a guy for three years when you go five minutes and get one off the portals. That's happening in the high school and I'm seeing it now. To your point, we have on my son's football team, we have eight wide receivers that could start for anybody. And the reason we have eight is because they've got a guy in the pocket. They can throw it to them. And it is a it is a system that they're buying into. It is a situation where I'm if I go to this school,

I'm going to get the ball thrown to me. There's nothing worse than being a receiver on a team that does not throw the ball. Does that guy who throws happened to be your son? I was not going to go there, but yet it does. And I'm very proud of the quarterback. He has fled into No. No, I know you're on another show tomorrow. What what are his chances of going somewhere? Um, well, we got to get his great up. He's uh he uh didn't get to play

very much last year. We had a very good quarterback that he had wont to stay championship for a sorrow as a returner. He ended up at New Mexico and uh. During that time, Mason, let's just say he did not take his academics very serious. So we've got to get those straight. If but if they are good. To see guy's limits, um, and I mean when I say this, guys, I mean, this guy's the limit. I've seen the I've seen the photos and the the the clips of him. I know he's very good. In fact, did you play with

Joe Schmigel? I did? His son's in the same realm. You guys have great kids who can play. We I've been out to Show's house in the last two years. I've been out in his house four or five times. He's been out here. Um, Brady and and Bow and Mason have all hung out together. They they're very, very similar. Brady is the quarterback, Bow's the receiver. For Smigel's kids, Brady's six foot five, Mason's only six one. But Mason's grandfather. You may not know this is

Larry Smith. Did not know that? No one did not know that, did he? I know he's getting recruited by Notre Dame. Is that right? Did he hasn't made the commo you? No, No, he's younger. I mean, he's actually only about a year younger than Mason. But he's he's a rising sophomore. Oh soccer as a junior. Okay, No, he's young. He played a freshman last year, but he was a sixteen year old freshman. Yeah. Well, every every dad wants his sudden

to be better than they were. Absolutely. Yeah, well I tell you what we all say that until the day you look across the field and you look, you recognize the fact that your son is better than you were. That's why you don't get him on the quarter or anyway. Yeah, you don't help him right away, but she certainly. You go back to the car you put you you sit in the front see of the car before you started up, and you're like, damn well you And he said, tell

them what you said. I had all girls. I was easy. Oh man, I'll tell you that that day I realized it. I'm there for you, that I sat down. I was like that boys better than I was. I don't believe I'm saying that. And he has having a girls have your own issues with the girl. Imagine my mom says. My mom says that she's starting to question her face. She said, if I was, if there would have been a god up there, he'd have given me girls because paybacks for what I did to her. Yeah. I always good

Streaming live I Mean I Heart Radio AM This is I'm the Ball with Steve Ribera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. Hey, welcome back, joining about hearing Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera. You're Andy Brown, Sir James pushing on the butts over here, Jason's got Hey, I do man, you lost the space shibot exactly exactly. I'm not a

brain surgeon and I'm scientists. I can't do any of that, thank you. Jason. Of course, come out a book. Okay, that's all I got. Hey, he talked about academics. Not so much academics, uh, in terms of being a student, the importance of that. I still don't understand why. Kids and this is no knock on his son, but kids, they still need to know the importance of that. And even

when they're here. How difficult was it? And I'll ask Jason this too, um to be a student to one student athlete one and a student at the college level, I found it being a student athlete. I was a guy who needed focus, I needed something to do. So were you a decent student? It was? I was an academic All American, so I was four point zero. So you have that exam brought the GPA up?

And where did you study business? Business? Finance? Okay, finance degree, gotcha, Okay, so I needed that, so my downtime I would do nothing. So when you probably needed too, though, when I schedule was packed, I got I got things done right. But if I had an hour to slough off, guess what, well you you needed your downtime? How you your time? No, I can't, but you always I always had to fill it with something. I mean it was if I don't

have anything otherwise otherwise would do nothing. And back then they did they have video games like the do today. Yeah not like today. No, No, I was, but you're not a video game dude. Okay, I wanted to be in the gym. I was playing Basketball's what I want to do? Yeah, how many times we finished practice, lift weights and then go down the rec center and play so like claim to like take you out?

And he went home and did homework and then you did it? So so did you find it um for the other guys to have you guys haven't made I could you guys have tutors? I don't tell you what. They had some tutors back then, and it was right now they built a whole thing across the way. Now it was a little as big as this room, and I was there at two computers in the and the typewriter, I think. But there were some guys that were always in there that recognize it

and he need to be in there, and they were. And there were other guys that Corey, that guy was brilliant. Yeah, but he's just a smart and they're Reggie smart guy. They're all I mean nowadays, if you're not making the greatest because you don't want to just yeah you need to go to class. Just if you just show up and crack open a book and the books. Would anybody want to not want to go to claud you fish, you get girls in you Jed fi sent is he's all about the

academics, right, he's recruiting. He wants gets that before we go there. Cho to being a student, that's what is it difficult? No, No, really, like you said, effort, You put the effort in, you'll see the results. And there's so much help available. You know, professors, you know other students, you know twuittoring and there's just so many resources available. He's tweeting it. So I fel like, if you just put the effort in, let's succeed, honestly, And there's no colleges

for anyway. Yeah, there's a lot of systems in place now to help people with learning disabilities that even recognize that you didn't have one and you're like, oh, the oneer, I can't see the numbers, right. So there's a lot more of that awareness now that I think even ten fifteen years ago, thirty years when we say this, if you want to call in, please do five two h four one six seventy four forty five two four

one six seventy for forty we'll take your call. We don't have a guest in the next hour, but we can all be us about this type of stuff. In the next hour. I can say, well, you know what I bought. I brought you something back from the final floor. Wait, wait, let's do that in a second. But okay, you're talking about academics, yes, and what it means and I didn't know this. This is why Jed wants that three point zero student. When it comes down

to a five and seven team and there's open Bowl games available. Being on the Arizonable Board of Directors, we had this issue come up. We're like, well, we don't have enough teams to fill these spots. How do we get our team. Will you go to a five and seven team and they use an APR I believe it's called academic progress rate and it looks at

what school has a better academic score. So Rice has a normous amount of heady guy Harvard, any of those guys, and only those teams that have a really high bar set for the academics is going to get that five and seven bid. So that's you have to go with. Yeah, I didn't know that. I didn't know that. There's I'm sure a few of them. Yeah, it happens that there's forty one to forty two bowl games. Yeah, so you're talking at eighty two eighty four teams. You don't always

get six and six and six and sixteen. So this came I believe it was two thousand, three thirteen somewhere on there. Where then I came out with that APR if you have a good GPA. Yeah, no, so a lot it's not just GPA. It's waiting on a lot of things, graduation, but that's a factor. That's a factor. Yeah. So that's where Jed goes, Hey, we need to have that, and that's I think he's a smart coach. He's like I'm gonna use every possible way where i want my team to get sure. Okay, why not? Now to

the gifts that you come from the heavens of college basketball. It's just been so long since you've had me in here. This is from Houston the first part of April. You said bring me back something, right, So I brought you back something you can wear in the hot heat right now? Okay, just a bag? Oh cool, Gillian Gilligan hat. Got you a

Gilligan hat? Nice? It is fine for cool. Cool. It's funny because I don't wear these hats, but I've been looking at him outside outside that one, but I do my weed eater and I and yeah, sitting in your pool drinking them. Very cool, thank you. And it even had a string for me to Canada tien it up. Yeah cool. I want to post this on Facebook. Cool. Yeah, that's I'll use that. I'll put that. That would be my knick knack stuff. Thanks. It's good to have friends like you, guys. I have my final four

bag. Cool. This my Tricker treat bag with the hat on. But on were my one of my disguises and my Tricker treat bag. Cool. Cool, Thank you. I'll wear this. I'm gonna wear this this weekend, within the week. Yeah, I'll post for you in you know, Arizonly. Very cool. Thank you for thanks for thinking me. We didn't have any Cooca cold bottles probably I used to collect. Yeah, Final four battles. Oh yeah, yeah. Was it a good set up? Because

next year are you going to be working that in Phoenix? Next year? This year, we'll have people up there working most likely I use you, Tann but no, yeah, yeah, I don't. I we had the CEO of the Final four, uh, and I don't want to miss press the pronounce him, so I won't say anything she was on. And then we had issue guy who's runs the media. I don't like the situation in Phoenix for one reason and one reason. Right, you hit it right on

the head. It's not like San Antonio. It's not like New Orleans. How is Houston? Houston spread out? But it depends on what you're staying too. This year we stayed more down town. I believe that by the convention center, so it was actually more compressed when we're staying there. Yeah, but to get everybody there yet, Yeah, it's downtown. One place you can walk around see everybody. They've done a better job in Houston.

I think this is a third year, the third time they've had it there, and they did a better job of creating things around the stadium for you to come early too. And before it was just a parking lot. Yeah, so now they filled the parking lot with some pregame tailgate stuff. They might they might do that Phoenix, because if it's right there in Glynny'll have a new have the casinos now, the shopping places, and they should. I mean, that's what drives people. You want to get them there early

so they can hang out through three hours of the ingle. Yeah, right, instead of having a downtown or the Fantista was I think it was. That's tough, but Indian out was great. You can just stop on the way to the to the stadium and everything. I don't know if I asked you this because in the in the ninety four it was in Charlotte the last time, the last time they headed in a small venue like that, uh, And I don't I remember. It was really busy for us obviously in

the media. For you were you able to get out, get out and do anything because you guys were playing, we were playing we had. You're you're pretty set schedule until you lose, and then it's just like, did you guys come back letter? What you guys didn't we staying? Well? Did you got the option to stay? Well? We all we stayed. Um, we got the option to go to the game or not. Monday, so he was like, hey, you guys want to go the game.

We all had dinner and we all had team things, responsibilities. We had to be a certain places just to kind of check Sunday and Sunday and Monday. And then Bason and said, hey, King, you want to go the game, you can. If not, you're staying here. And did the team stay? Some of the US wins the game and someone some of them stayed right there in the hotel room until it was on the home Oh okay, yeah, Dan Damon Stottom, I didn't want to go to the game. He's like him, I'm not playing in it. Going it

would seem that would be him respectful. I didn't speak anything less from him. Yeah, Well that he's that dude. He is that dude. That's why he's so successful. I don't know if that's why, but he's gonna he'sn't gonna do a great job at Georgia Tech. Absolutely. You know he is, because he's a detailed dude. He's the dude that ironist t shirts good and he's gone down. I think he knows that. I think you learned a lot from Coach just watching Coach Olsen stuff. Yeah, I mean

we all did. So did you read my book? Either read my book? Did you I've not read that damn yet. So when talking to Damon in his book and such his chapter, he can't. He thought, that's why I don't have a chapter. You and other people that have gotten mad at me story twitter my chapters. But for Damon, he he two things that struck me. And I think I told you about this. When when Luke went to go interview him do the recruiting up in Portland, what was

the one thing that he noticed? No, uh, well, he drove up in Alexis, drove up with Alexus, you know, kind of Damon saw this guy driving up in Alexus. Only there's only one dude, the only dudes who sold drugs drove up in a Lexus. Here was Luke Ulsen droving up in Alexus. Yeah. And then when you would take you guys out you know how Luke was very fancy the best places to die at the time, the best places, best hotels, and he said, you know, I didn't grow up that way. I didn't know where my forks were

supposed to go. I didn't know all this stuff. And we took a class. Did you know that? So when we get in it's like one of your first orientations. You sit down in the room and they put us setting out in front of you. You're like, okay, I didn't know that. Here's how you eat, Here's what these are for. Here's this spork you use for this. This when you use for this is everything shouldn right, this and that, And you're like okay, and we still forget

it. Klezard sitting down on people right like we just want a hammer. I did not know the hammerers that. Yeah, well that's cool. That was good. Yeah, I was talked. They talked a lot about money and dress and how you look nice and so we did all do that. Yeah respectfully. Yeah, but some people listen, Yeah something I don't care. Yeah, sure, yes, Cargo. When coach Alsen called U ragmuffins, yea muff that's right. That was the most that he's man at you

and you're trying not to laugh because things like that. Yeah, that was fun. Missed I missed those. Yeah, I'm sure how but you you hanging out with the guys Coreyes, with you a lot. Reggie's with you all the time. And talent doing great things, both of them, right, Kevin, he finds in talent, he's Kevin doing great things. People still rave about Kevin and his leadership. Yeah, with that football team that he had in ninety eight, I think it was you know, he's a

good guy. We talked the other day. We had lunch the other day, and um, it was great to talk to those guys about their post collegiate endeavors. You know, when they first got out and they wanted to keep playing, they wanted to keep you know, in the sporting well, they made some pretty good money overseas. How we all end where we are back home, back here that Kyle far moved back in the town, Oh did he? I think he was going to do that. He he's done

really well for himself on that TBT team. To China. I think it's China right now. Yeah, in China, Yeah, there's there's fuenty of opportunities, right, but to listen to the stories is amazing. Yeah, because that's where you can all bull Yes now like get But it's funny because you talk about Cli telling Corey to be quiet or to shut up because back in the bus stuff right, and in his radio show that he had him

back in the style. Can we please get a moment of silence? Those are the things when you're twenty twenty years old, is doing great things any right now? It's awesome to watch them. Yeah, all the guys, I mean Juson wraps their arms around the guys I've played here with. That's an a testament of the fan base. I think people love once they get here and they feel it. It's not four years and done. You come back and you're you're welcome. Sure every day? Yeah right, and people

applause you when you walk in the Michale. I mean, you don't know me when I walked in macale, but when you do, you know the important people. Why why are you wearing that eighteam shirt? That's right, so I can kick you out. I'm not only a member, I'm the president. Okay, Hey, thanks for being here at the first hour. We're gonna be here for the second hour. As well. Right, um, thank you Jason for handling these duties. Here, we're gonna take the

break. Are we going to early last time? We're good. Okay, We'll go here and then come back on the second hour breaking news, right, yes, okay,
