This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jagonzalez on Fox Sports fourteen fifty powered by Nova Insurance Services and Sure Your Most Prized Possessions, kat z R two SAD and iHeartRadio Station. Hey, good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to you Eye on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, he's Jagansaus. Got a guy sit in today, stay indoors. It's a cold wood out really there. It's cold one, it's raining. It's but day five of our of our entire winter. I expect five more

and then we're done. I think we have ten days of winter. That's since I since I've been I think we had five a couple of weeks ago, so now six, okay, we got four more left? Okay. I hope you're dealing with the war or cold. Get warm. I welcome A nice game last night by the Wildcats. Yeah you know it. Uh, you know they just came out and just methodically, you know, worked them over. I saw that team three months ago. Yeah, yeah,

you know, everything working. You know, you had you know, Ballow with an impressive double double, right twenty two and thirteen, right, you know, and then you know, Tommy talked about it, and I think you think you don't know if you were the one that asked the question in the press conference, just talking about how, you know, winning as handily as they did and Caleb Love didn't have to score twenty five points to do

it. That was an important question for me to ask because we had been talking about it right right, and I just wanted to get his He had a good quote because I kind of used the word dude. I don't know why I use the word dude, and he kind of said, yeah, it's cool. It's cool because guess what, at some point along the way, he's gonna get shut down, right, somebody's gonna somebody's gonna come along

and play great defense against him. And yeah, and you know it it uh, you know, he looked arguably he carried them through this tough time. You know, they still lost a couple of games, but he was scoring a bunch of points. He put to put up thirty six, I think against Oregon, you know, and you're thinking, man, if they have to start relying on a guy to do that, that's gonna be tough, right. We didn't. We never thought about this last year two years

ago with UH with No No, with UH with Indiana guy Methron. Right, So he because he showed up all the time. Yeah, they they weren't really dependent on him, but they needed him. But he he he and he would show up every game. Sure, sure, but Caleb, you know he's gonna you know, he's gonna shoot right. You just need

to know if he's gonna score right. Yeah. And and you know, Tommy made the comment again last night that you know, even in thirty six point game, in the Organ game, all those points came in the flow. He said, they were all on the flow of the offense. He wasn't doing anything, he was just making shots. And remember he only shot what fifteen times and or eighteen times and scored thirty thirty six points, you

know, with three throws and three points and stuff. But you know, last night I think he had a couple of bad shots that he should know too. Well. Tommy mentioned that when he went did that two for one right before the half, which you know, we're like, okay, I guess he's going for the two for one, and it was just you know, the twenty eight footer you know, just walked up the court and shot

a twenty eight footer. But you know, and I I, you know, I was looking when when I kept seeing his score line, and I was looking to see, is he gonna start forcing things because he's not getting his that shot it did look like but I don't know what that was. But otherwise he didn't really know. He had some assists too. You don't want to see, you know, the other guy that falls into that category. I don't know if you notice this Bradley. He doesn't. He doesn't.

Once he gets the ball, it's kind of a black hole. It doesn't pass it a lot, especially for him. It's more driving. From the break. He goes to the hall right right, it's like sometimes it's out of control a little bit, yeah right, he needs you don't change who you are overnight. But he does that lot. Notice that right away. And I continue to see what he does, especially on the break if there's you and me, and said, he's going get the ball. He's

going. But but again it looked, as you said, it looked a lot like November and December. He even had fun to say, well, you know it was funny because I I I kind of keep my eye on on on Kylin Boswell too. You know, just see how he's doing, you know, pregame when it was out of warm ups. You know, he was smiling a lot. He was. He looked relaxed, and I don't know, you know, I didn't pay attention enough in the previous games to see if he looked the same way, but you know he he uh

but you're saying, Buzzwell, yeah, Colin, Buzzwell. And he looked relaxed. He was smiling, he was, he seemed very loose. Before the game, he had that what air ball I think it was, Yeah, I missed that, and he kind of he kind of you know, you know, he did a little mimic of shooting the ball and kind of he did one of those. God, if I could just remember names, I'd be fine. He just like he saw on me. I gotta get better with this, blah blah blah. But but he's been okay. Yeah,

it's okay. The guy that you mentioned to begin outside his babble, what A what a? They had no answer. Where does it start with this team? Where does it start? Like? What needs to happen with this team? Ballow? Is it? Ballow? Is it? Caleb? No? Somebody they know the exactly. They need to move the ball, they need to teams need to know they're going to score inside, they're going to score outside, they're gonna drive. Just do all the things, and

and it and it. I mean he had he had nine points in the game had barely started. So so you're you're saying that it's not someone specific. It's no, I don't think it is. I think it's everyone to the Yeah. And that's it. That's it because three months ago, three months, two months ago, that was that was happening. Yeah, that was happening. It wasn't. And if you I know, you can't do this, Jay, you can probably do this when you go to the game

because you're too busy doing the stat stuff. You can't look up count how many passes start the offense. Yeah, it's it's a one it's a one shot thing or a one past thing, where before it is at least four. Yeah, you know last that you saw some of that. Yeah, no, they did. And and what is it's you know, you look, Ballo got the ball under the basket. He and he scored and fished

and then he finished and that's what that's what it was. And they were scoring from wherever, you know, I mean, you know, Keisha Johnson was scoring, and you know, Boswell was handing out assists, and he had a you know, he had a couple of early baskets, and it just you got a sense pretty quickly that they were in a rhythm and that Cal had no shot. This is why this team has the potential to make a deep run because in the past, previous teams that have early exits in

March, they're too centric on one player. And we've seen that in the past, right, right, So this team, if they moved the ball, I mean, we've seen they have several guys that can go out, go into double figures. Well, two things scare me, and I told someone last night again after seeing this in November, is Babo Street throws. You don't know what you're gonna get. Whether he's improved or not, I don't know, but you don't I don't trust it. I don't trust it.

And and Caleb going on on his own. Yeah, those two things. Other than that, I'm okay. Yeah. And again he uh, you know, Love did not you know, he didn't do that. He didn't do that last night. And he wasn't getting a bunch of points. But you know, even I want you know, I was watching him play defense, like, because that's where you that's where you see it, right. If they're not into, if they're they're they're feeling there, you know

that their their game isn't there. They're not getting the ball and they're not scoring whatever. A lot of times they you know, you see that on the defensive end and they don't work as hard and they're just frustrated or whatever. He was playing some really hard defense as well, and so, uh, it looked like it was supposed to look. I'm gonna be interested to see how it looks on Sunday, you know, when Stanford comes in,

you know, and I think they're as as uh. I think, you know, Brian Jeffery said on the Plus Games, I said, I think they'll I think Stanford will have their attention on oh yeah, oh yeah. I'm curious to see what the spread is gonna because he was twelve over there and they won by whatever it was eighteen. I can't remember what it was. I was gonna ask you guys something I can't rem Maurial come to me. It'll come to me. But let's move on. But but you know

it was just they did what what you would want them to do. Last Okay, I know because you were with us yesterday in the studio. I talked about the depth of the team. Right there. He goes eight comfortably, and we saw Philippe and we saw Mosco. Morosco's okay, So we know without a doubt. In a month or so, he's going with a because he could have played those two dudes longer. Yeah, he's going with eight. But if he needs those two guys, he'll use them, he'll,

I think. But I don't think he's gonna want to go. No, he's not gonna want He hopes he doesn't need him, But I think he thinks they're there, and I think he'll try and get him, get him some more playing time. He made a commentary that last night that he wished he had played them a little bit more. That's you've said that a couple of times. Yeah. I don't know if that's true. I don't don't know if that's true, because he's he had plenty of chances to play

there. Yeah, and he didn't. Well, I know, but they were barely covering when they put him in. But they came in and there was still a little over four minutes left in the in the game, and I'm like, if you if you're get if you're if you're if you gave the nineteen points, you're you're going, oh no, because you know, because it was like I think it was like twenty one or twenty two at

the time. Yeah, but they you know, they do and they again and you know what those guys you see, these guys come in, whether they're even the far into the bench, you know, the last couple of guys that that come in, they get in there and they play hard and they play defense. So it's not so much that you got to score some more, you know, if you're trying to do you got to keep the

other guys from sporting, and they get a good job of that. Up you know, ended up uh, you know, winning handily and not you know, I think, but they went by twenty twenty seven, so you know, it was it was plenty and there was room for for anybody who gave the nineteen points. Although I think you and I said I wouldn't, I wouldn't go About three minutes into the game, I turned to shear and it says, you know they're gonna cover yeah, it was it was twelve

immediately. Yeah, it was like you know, and he says, yeah, yeah, and they did and they did, and then they got up there and they just you know, they got up twenty at the half. I know they cut it to fifteen at one point, but you just thought, you know, you know, they're just gonna keep scoring and they and they handled it real well. I thought they played Cal Roll. I will

say that Cal's a little thin on talent. Yeah, yeah, I couldn't you know, watching the game, I couldn't even tell who was their best player. No, you're right, right, I mean, there wasn't a guy that you thought, Okay, that's the best player. He's the guy. It's just like they all kind of look the same, you know, from a you know, skills wise that you're you're you know, you gotta wonder what, you know, what Mark Madson is doing recruiting wise and stuff

like that. Right, well, it's gonna be Remember last year they pat real bad, real bad. So it's a long way. This is the jet Fish first year. So I got a surprise for you. Who's who's your gifts? We got Jake Fisher coming on three point fifteen. We'll uh,

you know, just kick some things around it. You know, Jake sponsored the show, and we'd like to get him on here and pick his brain as a as a former college athlete, who can you know, kind of tell us what's what and he follows recruiting and all that interweb stuff, right, and then I'll got a surprice. The guy who's trying to reach that didn't return the calls said he can do it. So Melbok will be on a great All right, good, we'll talk to him. Man,

he did the game last week. We'll see what he thought about what he saw that. What if anybody saw the game because you oh yeah, yeah, could you chip up with it? And and it didn't. And then well there's eight minutes of the game that we are hoping we got right from his stats standpoint, because we have the we have the game on a on an iPad there and there's a delay on it, so we use it to check stuff that we put in that we think we're not one hundred percent sure.

So we were going without a net for eight minutes there. So, but it's it was kind of or was it slow enough for the Yeah we did Okay, I mean I'm gonna sit in here thinking that we messed anything up. It's just that we you know, we use it. I'd say probably three or four calls per game. You know. We we we enter something or you know, we put something in, but then we go back and check to make sure we got it right. Like like we missed a

block. Okay, there was a shot, a shot that went up on a sequence and it looked short, but we couldn't tell if it was blocked, and then you could tell from the replay that in fact, there was a block there. So you know, somebody got a block who wasn't otherwise going to get a block shot. And so we we use it for stuff like that, you know, or who got the assist because well, you know, Mark Manson's a big dude, Okay, so he stands in front

of us. He's why the only the only, the only pack twelve coaches got a bigger but wider butt than Mark Manson. His tinkle, Wayne Tinkle. He's that dude's why. And so they stand right in front of us a lot and we're all, you know, trying to see. And so if you don't have the angle on an assist or whatever, it's hard to hard to see, so we used that and so, yes, we were.

We were a little did you so you listened to the press converce did on the way, and so I continue to ask, do you do you get a sense that he's not just to Bruce just his tone is a little bit surly, more surly and more direct. He he doesn't let guys finish questions a lot. He never he never has h you know, he feels like he knows the questions. So here's your answer, and he gets to it. I he didn't sound surly or anything like that. He's just one

of the questions. He kind of was very differ well, he went he poked at Bruce against and I think this was the press conference you missed, Yeah, yea, yeah, which was funny because I remember seeing that, but I didn't go to the press conference. Yeah, well, you know they have a relationship. Yeah, Bruce gets on. I don't think. I don't think Tommy dislikes the media, No, I think I think I think it's more of a he pokes. He has I think he has fun.

He doesn't particularly like doing them, but he does understand that he's got it. Sure, of course, of course this isn't that contract. Yeah, this is at he's I think he, I think he's fine. Okay, we gotta go, gotta go for sure. Jake. Yeah, Jake Fisher coming up at about uh in about five minutes. So stick around. We'll just we'll just shoot some more stuff because you know Jake and you know football season's over, so we can't just keep talking about football season. So

we'll see what Jake's got on his mind. So stick around. Make the right choice for your home when it comes to windows and doors. Sports fourteenth the Hey, welcome back to joining the ball. Herero Fox Sports fourteen fifty M. Steve, he's Jake got to sit with us. Now we have our guy, Jake Fisher. When are you a football player and good sponsor for us? Rick? Rick? Jake? How are you? I'm doing well? Rick doing well as well? Good? Good? He gets a challenge in here every day. Yes, every day you're headed in our direction. Hey, what's going on? What's going on with you?

And how about that basketball team last night? Do you do you have any how can I say this? Are you okay with their inconsistency? I'm sure you're not. No, But I mean, shoot, last year we have the same kind of inconsistencies. The only difference this year is we can kind of sit back and let our defense keep us in games for long stretches when we can't score, and over the last two games it looked like coach Tommy

got into them a little bit. And hopefully they're listening because we're getting closer to, you know, the end of the conference play. It's a tie, or it was a tie at least at the top between three different teams and the standing. So hopefully we can pull away and we have to keep playing like we have the last couple of weeks. You know, I don't. I mean, Arizona's still seen as you know, a top team in

the country. I don't think there's anybody out there who thinks that despite the fact that you know, they were you know, last week they were in third place in the league, that anybody thinks that they're not still going to win this league. But you know, when you're that team, how do you keep your focus on that? You know, how do you need not sit there and relax and say, Okay, we're still good enough, We're just going to do this. I mean, you have to keep working at

it. Yeah, of course you have to. And you know, a lot of it falls on the older players on the team. You know, you've got four seniors that start, you know, a couple that have been with their zone over the last couple of years with a lot of six deeth uh. And then we've had two people you know that have transferred here that have played in the Final four over the last couple of years. So it just I think a lot of it, you know, falls back on them.

And you can see it over the last two games when we went to Oregon, Caleb Love, you know, a senior, did really well, and then last night follow a senior did really well. And I think over the last couple of games, Key Shaw's played awesome. And you know Pella he hasn't been a shooting as well, but I mean he's kind of that glue guy and the Swiss army knife that can basically on a bad night still play really good defense and still you know, lead the team and assist and

you know, kind of pick you up part in those ways. But I think it just falls upon the leadership, and I think over the last couple of games, I think they've shown them that they're willing to step it up

a notch and play better. Yeah, question, how hard do you think it is for a guy like Caleb Love, He's a senior you know, he's been somewhere else, so he's really he's here for a year, so he's a short timer to can't is it possible or can he have a leadership role or does he have to kind of fit in with everything else and you know, and then just do what he does. I mean, how tough is that? Well, you know, it's kind of it could be two different things. Number one, you know, he might not be the guy

that speaks up all the time. He might just be the guy that you know, might have to put the team on his shoulders. He's show him that he is who he is. You know. I think that that's what he's doing. I think after a few games where we may have fallen out of it if it wasn't for him, I think it kind of opened up the eyes who said, Okay, this is the Caleb Love of old. This isn't who we thought or who we heard about last year. So I

think he just is going to let us play do the talking. And a couple of these games, like I said, when we went through offensive roles where nobody else played, well, he's either helped us win or kept us in it. So I think that's just kind of his leadership role. Yeah, just just by playing and you know, being dependable, I guess right,

yeah, and just hitting big shot after big shot. I mean, he's had a couple of games where he hasn't really shot the ball very well when you look back at you know, how many shots he made versus how many he took, but it seemed like every damn time he took the damn

shot, it went in, you know. I mean, like that Fau game, you know, and just a couple other big games where he was just hitting those shots and you look at the shots chart and you're like, wow, he didn't play that well, but it seemed like every time we needed a bucket, he was there to get it. Are there any I mentioned my concerns earlier before you came on. Are there any concerns in your eyes as we head closer to the tournament. Well, it's just a lack

of motive. Two things. Lack of motivation. You know, like I said, you got too many guys that are too good to be playing the way that they played. You know, at a couple of those games, he was the order to state game, the Stanford game, et cetera, et cetera. Because I mean Obviously, we've seen against some of the best teams in the country that you know, like a Wisconsin we could blow him

out, or Purdue we play really lack of daisical. You know. The first it seemed like twenty five minutes, and then we he got back within four and then we just came up short. You know, they hit a few free throws there to put the game out of reach. And then the other one is just the consistent play of Colin Boswell, you know, I

mean, like you put in Jaden Bradley. He might only score six or seven points, but it just seems like sometimes that offense runs better with him, and he plays like a dog on defense and just makes all those plays. But then you have those games where Colin Boswell actually shoots the ball. Well, you look up and he's got seventeen points, four or five assists,

and he plays really really well on defense. So if we can get a consistent effort out of you know, the other guys, and then we can get Boswell playing, you know, I mean some of these guys, like on the radio, you know, you listen to him, and a lot of these folks say, we don't really need him to play, like all conference, just you know, just consistent, right, and if he plays well on the defensive end and he can hit some timely shots, I

don't need him to be a fifteen point you know point a night score. All he's got to do is run the offense, play like a dog on defense like he can, and just be a little bit more consistent from them. This is just a weird question I'm going to ask you. So we see what we see on basketball in basketball, and we could see in baseball hitting wise, but do do football players going slumps? And can you see that? Could you see like as a linebacker, did you ever get in

the slump? Yeah? I mean it's more about being in the right spot, you know. I mean like basketball, you know, you look like you're not playing well if you miss a bunch of shots right. In football, you might only you know, like take it from you know, a nose guards standpoint right Like Bill Bill Norton this last year. He didn't have

all the crazy accolades. He didn't have all the tackles, the TFLs and stuff like that, so it might look like he didn't make a big difference, but he was keeping guys off of the linebackers so I think the way to tell if a linebacker is not playing well is if they're just missing tackles and if they're out you know, if they're just out of position. So that's a no? Is that a yes? Oh yeah, absolutely, you

watched it. That's the one thing that sucks about playing, you know, on a collegiate level is you know, where are the guys supposed to fit and if you see him go to the wrong the wrong hole, it's kind of hard to watch, yeah, because we're not we're not expecting what to do. We don't know what to see. I mean, you guys on films know exactly what you're seeing. Oh yeah, I mean it was it was film religiously, so when you watch it, it's hard to watch it

as a fan anymore. Wow. Okay, all right, so you get you're getting too this time of year where you know, we know that for Arizona it's all about you know, okay, we're going to decide how good you were by how you doing the in the NCAA tournament. But you know, getting back to this whole leadership aspect, you know, do seniors just naturally gravitate to like okay, this is my last year, So everybody get your stuff together or you know how how you know, where do you get

that? As you say, you need motivation, you need leadership, you need you know, you need to be ready to play, you know, game in and game out. It you know where does it? Where does that need to come from? Well, it depends who it is. I mean the seniors, they've all been to the tournament. A couple of those guys have been to a Final four and the other two seniors have been to a Sweet sixteen. So those guys kind of know how to prepare him what

to be expected of them. So they're just gonna go out and they're going to play their tails off. When it comes to the freshman, you know, you know, imagine like or a sophomore for example, like James Bradley or Colin Boswell. You want to send those guys out right, So you're not going to be doing anything stupid. You're going to be looking at the film. You're going to be playing as hard as you can. You're not

going to take any plays off on defense. And then you have a guy like Krevas, who you know, if Baba plays like he did last night, if if MAUI follow shows up like he did last night previous. All you've got to do is give him sells and play as hard as he possibly can, you know. And so when it comes down to it, I think all those guys, you don't have to worry about kJ if he's sitting his outside shot like he's money. But when it comes down to it,

you know, he's a hustle guy. So the younger guys are going to want to send these guys out right, and then the older guys know what to expect, are just getting ready to kind of put it in a different gear. Okay, yeah, I hear that. I mean, and again, you know, you're you're everybody's I think I think what's happened over the

last couple of weeks is that the Arizona fans have gotten nervous. We thought they were really good, We didn't think they were gonna lose any games, and now, you know, I think fans have gotten nervous, and it's like, what the hell? And and you're you're you're looking for chinks in the armor, and there's there's been a few of them this uh, these last few weeks. I think it kind of showed the older guys that even

though you have that much talent, you can lose to anybody. Even then even the non tournament teams, because I mean, college basketball has become way

different because of the transfer portal you have. You know, you have these really good guys on these small teams that you don't really know about per se that went to uh, you know, a cow or went to a Stanford or a Washington State, where all of a sudden, you have a couple of those guys that, like I said, maybe you don't know or maybe you just you know, you think that they played really well because they're from a smaller school, and then they punch in the mouth. Yeah, so

you know, it's just it's a completely different landscape. And I think, if anything, is just gonna be one of those, you know, coaching tools that coach Tom is gonna be able to look back on and say, if you guys think that you're gonna get out of the first round easy, you guys lost to Oregon State, you know what I mean? So uh, like I said, I think the guys will wake up. Were you

a revenge guy when you played well? I mean you always have that in the back of your mind, but you can't let that kind of consume you and get out of position and make you know, brownhead and plays. You know, I'm just wondering, what's the Stafford game coming up? Right? And they they obliterated you know, Arizona up there. You know how much of you know getting up for that game? Mean? You know, do you you go into like I just want to kick their assets because they kick

mine. I think I don't think Tommy's gonna let them kind of get in the revenge mindset. It's just listen, you guys know you can beat anybody. You guys know you can lose to anybody. So as long as we play our game better than they play there, we're gonna win. But you know, you can't get out of store and you can't you know, you can't be turning the ball over and letting them hit every damn three that they take. We didn't touch you last week. But it's been two weeks.

There's been some news, I guess out of the football program. Any thoughts on what's going on. Some players staying, some players going, well, we knew that was going to happen. I think we were just all nervous because we thought that it was going to be more leaving and following coach Fish than what has actually happened. So I'm happy with all the returners. Like

I said, that offensive line is going to be solid as hell. Again, I think you have three legitimate NFL players that are going to be starting. You know, you have obviously a great receiving corps. A lot of young guys are gonna have to step up, but I think they're good enough to do it. You know, I think we need maybe a transfer running back, you know, a little bit of an older guy, maybe a bigger guy, because we lost our you know, our thunder guys right defensive

line on the interior still work to be awesome. You know, I hear we got a couple of guys coming in from San Jose State. They're going to be fine as well, hopefully a couple. I know. Duce Davis left and you know, I hope he does well. I've heard nothing but great things about him and his family, being a good kid and everything like

that. You know, hopefully Ward comes back, who knows, But I think on the defensive side, maybe a good bookend, another linebacker to run you know with Manu, and then you know, hopefully we get to Cario back and we have a guy that we can plug in over at the corner. But I've heard nothing but good things. Like I said, every time he's talked to somebody that's close to the program. The way to Gates. You know, if these guys are going to be legit or not is you

know, are they hungry recruiters. That's one of the biggest things in college fallity plea is the life flood. And I think that they've been working their tails off, so I'm happy about it. Or certainly seeing them all over the place. You know, we see him on social media that they're at this high school, that high school, the other high school. They're making offers out there. So you know, you just wonder because I mean,

look, Jedfish did a great job in terms of getting players here. He got some great player here, and you know, you wonder if that's it's if they're going to be able to continue at that level, if they if they have a good season. I don't see a reason why that momentum won't

continue to bring good players here to the Desert. Yeah, I mean, there's given you a lot of guys that want to play on that defense, a lot of guys that want to play on that offense as long as you're scoring points and you have and like I said, I mean, you guys, you're going to have the best linebacker, in my opinion, in the entire Big Twelve coming back next year. I mean, I don't see a reason why somebody that wouldn't want to come from another program and he knows that

he's legit wanting to pair up with a Jacob Mono. So I mean, we've got all our safety back. Like I said, I mean, we have a lot to work with. So if we have a good first year and we can plug a couple of holes and you know, go ball out, you know, maybe put up a lot of points, like I think we're going to. I don't see a reason why the staff, who it seems like they're going to go out and really recruit their butts off, wouldn't be able to bring in some players that really want to play, right,

you know, totally right, totally right. Well, you want to pitch your your business, yeah, guys. Arizona Health Insider Arizona's leading health and life insurance advocate. Let's know what you thought about last night's game or anything else that's on your mind. Yeah, you know, and really that a whole lot more to say, just that they you know, they

came out, they took care of business. Uh it cal was never in the game. Was it like ninety two right out of the box or something like that and twinty to something. So let's also remember, and I say this all the time, it was a one hundred thousand dollars horse against a twenty five thousand dollars horse. Well, I know, you got to kind of put it in perspective. What does it do? They played well. It's beat alternative around playing well. I'm not playing well. They did play

well. And and again there was never I mean there wasn't. There wasn't a moment in the game that you thought, Okay, they're in some kind of trouble. Ever, and and and that's what they're supposed to do, right against against Cal and they did. And uh, you know, the bench got some time in as well. I think a big key to it, as as we were saying earlier, was one that how well Ballot played, and then two that again as we said, they didn't really need Caleb

Love to go off in in order to do what they did. I mean, it was coming from everywhere, right, Still a lot of work to do. There's a big weekend in basketball. You saw that Duke plays North Carolina. Yeah, there's a whole bunch of games Tennessee today, tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow, the week there's a whole bunch of games games tomorrow. They somebody on a on a talk show is reeling off all the great games, and I was waiting to say, they're not gonna say, Arizona standards,

that's not a great game. In fact, the West is just so dry, even in Zaga, who has the ranked right now. They might if they are there twenty four twenty. They're pretty low there are ye, So there's really nobody if U C. L A And Arizona are not anchoring the West. Yeah, and Gonzaga, now there's nobody in the West, you know. And then I watched I didn't watch. I caught the tail end on the radio of a s U blowing the lead. Yeah, I watched it there, you know, I thought, are they remember I was

saying that, well, maybe she's good. Well they're not. They were four and oh in the league. Neither're four and five? Yeah or five and four. They've they've lost, they've lost four of their last five. Uh. You you've gone through the U Conference game, you've got through the league. Who's good there? I still think Organ's pretty good. Yeah, but they're but they're way low in the Ken Palm ratings. They're like, you know, yeah, eighty something. I thought Colorado coming into the year,

I thought Colorado was going to make a bigger jump. But yeah, we'll see. We'll see next week. Yeah, it's going to be in Colorado. So always stuff there. You see the tweet from Bruce. But our guy Machalla what's his name, the toughest place to play in the country Utah. Oh, yeah, the analytics guy. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he's one of our great guests. And who's going to be coming to the town a big game. Boomers should be calling us. He's coming here

for the game Organ game. I think one of those games. Yeah, uh, but yeah, Utah is and rightly so it's a tough place to go and play. So we'll see what happens. Well, both these games going up. But yeah again they gotta go take care business against Damp, which I really think they will. I wish that game wasn't Sunday night. I wish it was Sunday afternoon. Yeah, you know, I don't like getting home and you know, going back to going to sleep for Monday.

You know, eight o'clock. Man, by the time it's getting to be my bedtime. You well, Steve, you know, with the work I do with these games, there's a wine down period for me. No, dude, I get it, really is. I get it. It's like the writing. We just sit there in an hour and then you get home. You have to kind of like decompressed, right right. I you know, I saw one fifteen in the morning last night. Really yeah, why it was already it was all you were home by nine, I'm assuming yeah,

nine fifteen. I don't know. It just I puttered around, make rank rank keep you up. No, but it was only starting to rain when I when I fell asleep. Two you need a toddy or two. I don't do time yeah, no, I you just did. I don't know that's it just did just but you know, it was a fun game to work. It wasn't chaotic. We you know, we have we do have chaotic games that are just crazy crazy to work. But it was kind of there was a rhythm to the game. It seemed like, yeah,

it really was. Yeah, it wasn't. It was fine. And nobody on the Facebook was completing about the reps because they were winning. Because they're winning. Well, oh, okay, little things right when you when stuff that you you was a fan or even a report, don't think about that last time out, that TV timeout, okay, because that they hadn't had You know, there's always an extra TV timeout in the second half, right, okay, the first dead ball that does not lead to a regular TV

an under sixteen and under drug. They hadn't taken it. And we were we were less than two minutes left in the game, and we're sitting in a room. Don't let the ball got about. Don't let the ball got about. Let's not have it, and and and Mark Mattson called a time out to get his subs in in well, that led to three minute TV time out there at the end of the game. We were very upset by that. You already be in your car, Yeah, we were. We were like so mad. The crowds started leaving early too. I mean,

come on, there was really no highlights or anything like that. So yeah, we were a little upset by that. Little things like that, that that that you don't think about. But so, what's the first thing you think about when you see Mark Madison that he played at Stanford? But I don't think of a specific game. So I got a couple of things. So Bruce and I were in the press room, were sitting down waiting for Timmy to show up, and Bruce goes to meson man Mark Madison because we

both covered back then. It was like in nineties, that's how old we are. We realized how old. Well that's yeah, that we were saying. They were saying, you know, he was in college and we were doing these games, and now he's the head coach. Coach. That's one, And the other one was the his dance when he was with the Lakers and his oh that's right when they won the when they won the champions. And then that's the other one. Yeah, forgot about that can't dance and

they can't. They can't. Yeah, and it's funny that, you know, you got a guy who went to Stanford coaching at Cal. But but you know, he's a big dude. You know, he's a big He yells a lot, not bad, not bad things. He's just he screams instructions to his team when they're in the middle of a sequence. You know, he's yelling at guys to get here and get there and get there there.

And then he really screamed at one of the refs. Uh, he thought there was a call that he thought was a foul, and I mean the ref is coming by and he like screamed in his ear that's a foul. I'm like, that would have busted his ear drums. I mean it was. It was really really loud. But you know, he otherwise, he you know, he was he was fine. Other than that, Missus Lincoln. The play was okay. Yeah, you know I thought, I thought, look, they they look well coached. Yeah, just in what

they do, the stuff they run. They just don't have the don't have players and maybe you'll get Kelson never had and Kels. You know, they had Jason Kidd, they had Murray at the time, but you know, through the history, through my time and your time, they haven't really had much. Yeah. Even when Montgomery went back there, they got they got better, but they didn't get really he can only walk out of water for so long, you know. But he did a great job obviously. No,

it's gonna see if he can come on. Yeah, but you know, they they were well one, they weren't really a good airport team. But I didn't I didn't say that because the last time I said that it got dicey when I said that about U C. L A and Arizona. I had to come back and win that. But you know, not not a good airport team. But you know, I don't know. It's it's hard to know if they're you know, how how much he'll do, how

much, how much better they'll get with him. I don't know what's gonna It's gonna be a tough haul in the A c C. Yeah, that's right, they're going to the A c C. That's not going to be easy. No, that's not gonna be easy. It's for a program for for a school that doesn't put it much into athletics. Athletics. Yeah, well, it's all falling apart. Anyway, these are tough times. Oh, I'm sure you have breaking news about stuff going on in other conferences too.

We'll talk about that once we take the break, because it's the big news. Yeah, a lot of stuff. Man, it's nuts. I'm really seeing. I'm really worried. We're getting it off on a tangent. I'm really worried about what college athletics is gonna look oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, going forward, and how how it's going to survive what we're going for. Well, I read your I read your You were talking about this yesterday with the Tennessee uh, Tennessee and c double A and I

read it, and I'm thinking Tennessee has a case. I mean, what do they do whether it's a case, they have a great explanation, and not that everybody's doing it, well, everybody's doing it exactly how they say there. They absolutely do have a case that that says that you can't keep

me from getting from making money. You can't stop me from making money, you know, just like I can't stop you from going to another radio show and making some money, and you can't stop me, or you know, if you're working at the newspaper, I can't stop you from taking a job at another newspaper, and you don't have to accept the job before you know how much you're gonna make, which is what the NC DOUAA is trying to

do with nil. They're trying to say, you can't take nil from somebody until you are on the team, signed, sealed, and delivered, and then you can find out how much you're gonna make. And that's what the

NC, that's what the rule says. No, they may they have an incredible case, but but in the end, though, what what that does to to to sports is it screws everything up because you know, and also with the whole you know, I can transfer any time I want to deal again the way athletics has been run from a from an employment standpoint, from a standpoint within the laws of the of the US when you're trying to avoid you know, anti trust complaints. NC double A has been breaking basically breaking

American loss laws. Yeah, for one hundred years. Right now it's catching up to them because now how about this, how about this? I mean, you know, there's a conversation you're starting to hear, what where how can a school keep a player from playing more than what if a guy just says I want to play college football for the next ten years, and you say, well, no, you can't. You have to leave after four? Why how do you how? You know, how do you do that?

Right? It's a it's an NC double A rule. But you know, I know people, you know, I know people have been in college for nine, ten years. Well you have a guy that's playing for seventh or eighty yeahah yeah, So so you know, how can how can the NC double A or anybody enforce the rule that says after four, after you've

played four years, you have to leave, right. I was just telling the kid here, if you've been here in school a few years, right, yeah, and it says you probably want to go another few years because it's a tough world out here, you know. I mean, if you're if you're a college athlete and you're making sure one hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year, two hundred thousand dollars a year through an IL, and you know you're not going to make it in the NFL, why wouldn't you want

to just keep away? And why and how can they stop you? A perfect example that is the women the Caitlin Clarks and the uses who are making partty more in school than they will make in the w NBA. Right, you know, how how can you have a rule that says you have to leave college? You have to leave college? You know there's some people who never do what you need. You need, but you need those rules.

You do need those rules. But under the laws, you know, the the what you know, what we as a as a as a country allow within the laws that regulate that type of stuff. You can't have a law that says you can't be in college anymore, right, Right? I guess, I guess they could be in college, but they just can't play. What's that thing in the bar? It's time to leave? Okay, to see you. But but how do you enforce that under what? What law

do you get? Because all this is going, all this is being but they're trying to do is dictate all the n C double A rules with laws saying n C double A you can't make that rule because it's against the law of the United States. Well, then the n C double A will eventually band and and and and in college football will be you know a minor league, you know, a minor league sports that pays all its players. But still you can you say you can only play college football for X number of

years and then you have to leave there. You know, how do you how do you how do you enforce that with the law or with a rule, or how do you force it with a rule that's not in violation of the law. Yeah, that scares the crap out of me. Well, you have twenty twenty six seconds to figure it out. To relax on that question, because we're going to break pera some got off man. Five minutes ten A lot of a lot of breaking news from the kid here, all

right, stick around breaking the top of the hour. M hmmm.
