This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jay Gonzalez. Sound Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Subscribe now to the podcast on the iHeart Radio Ahip just Surgery. I on the Ball. Hey, welcome back to One on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jay, and now we got Jason with breaking news. I on the Balls. You ate wild blog at Hockey begins the season with a rivalry showdown versus A two UM. They open their They open their season on September twenty third at the Tucson

Arena on my seven thirty PM. So some hockey. Yeah, and that's not to be confused with NC with a s USA. You know, NC double a hockey team. They have a club team as well, like Arizona does. Yep. Oregon and Washington are going to be going to the Big Ten. But they would want to continue playing the rivalry schools in Oregon state in Washington state. Yeah, they both said that in their UM, in their news releases that they want to continue the rivalries in all sports, not

just you know, not just football or whatever. The Apple Cup and all that kind of stuff. You know. They they they they call the Apple Cup, like we do in hearing, here's with the Territorial Cup series. You know, all the sports are part of the Apple Cup. So but Oregon and Washington both said that they'll keep laying those guys. Good for them. Yep. New Orleans Pro Bowl and All Pro defensive end Cam Jordan has agreed on a two year extension worth up to twenty seven point five million dollars

um. So he's gonna be locked in with New Orleans the rest of his career, all right, yep. Um. The NFL suspending running back Alvin Kamara off for three games in his role in a fight in Las Vegas in twenty twenty two. Wasn't that the that the Pro Bowl? Yeah? It was the Pro Bowl. He got in the he got on a fistfight y something. Yeah, even a few of the guys. Yeah yeah. So he guys have spended three games and then they Colt cornerback Chris lemons Um also

was involved in the incidence. He's also getting suspended three games as well. Yeah. Um. And then there are some more suspensions um. The Chiefs d line d lineman Charles Menu has been suspended for six games for violating the league's personal conduct policy and then a wide receiver from the Seahawks, Dwayne Eskridge, is also being suspended six games for violating UM conduct Austin as well.

Yeah. Uh, the Bears, I'm signed two players today. Um. They signed former Colts star pass rusher your neck Quay to a one year, ten point five million dollars deal kind of help with them on the defense. And they also signed a one year deal to veteran tight end I'm Mercedes Lewis as well. Marcedes Lewis is still in the league. Yeah, it's going to be his eighteenth season in the NFL. He's as a tight end man.

And then you take a beating at that position, you think so, but I think a lot of tight ends are playing long careers, like you know, Travis you know, oh the guy played a long time. Yeah, the one and the one dude. Um uh, Jimmy Graham, He's still around. A lot of these guys played like long careers. So you think it is a very aggressive, you know position, but they played long careers. Um, and that you're running back. Marlon Mack signed is signing

a one year contract with the Arizona Cardinals. So, um, Cardinals getting something there? Was somebody tweeted out that all it said was Cardinals under four and a half wins. Then it was a video of a play that they ran in practice, and you know, it's a pass play quarterback and I don't even know who the backup quarterback is. It's called McCoy throws a pass and he hits the receiver in the back of the head. And they said and then it said, like take the under Yeah. Uh. Freege guard

frekkena Um has agreed to a one year deal with Charlotte Hornets UM. So Harnet's getting another guard. Uh. The Los angel Lakers just signed Anthony Davis to a three year, one hundred and sixty eight million dollars a MAX extension, so there'll be signing him through twenty twenty eight and the total um contract is going to be worth up to two entred and seventy million dollars plus you know, some exture, you know, signing bonus my name as well. So is he worth it? Do you think he's worth it? Um?

Has he been worth that? Yeah? He has been worth it. Yeah. He's one of the top three five defensive players in the entire NBA. UM, he's an easy twenty ten like the times. Yeah, I mean that kind of comes with it. I feel like, you know a lot of guys in the league that are some of the best players, they're injury prone. Honestly, they're going to go down the list. Kawhi Leonard injury prone, George Chris Paul, you know Lebron Now you know a d um.

You know there are other guys, but he's too good of a player. He's still I think he's turning thirty. Um, I think he's just turned thirty. But so, you know, in his prime, really good player, one of the best defensive players. I mean, Lebron only has one year left, really, right, I mean they need someone to be their centerpiece, and he just made sense for them to lock up eighty for another in a couple of years. So all right, yeah, I believe

you, Okay, Um. The Cowboys signed their safety Malik Hooker to a three year contract extension worth up to twenty four million dollars that has an eight million dollars signing bonus um within it, so they have him locked up to the twenty twenty six season, and they didn't they signed another defensive back to luck in another guy. It sounded like they got the two guys that they wanted again. Yeah, they got him, We got dis Yeah, so

I got him blocked up as well. Um. The Bengals also signed a linebacker Logan Wilson to a four year extension with up to thirty seven point two million dollars coin since he um, and he's going to be making over the next two years eleven point two million dollars, so you know, continuing to keep that court together far as long as possible before they have to pay Jamar and Burrow. The next year, the Colts signed running back Kenyan Drake to a one year deal. Um. So they lost some guys, so they

got in trying to plays on depth there. Um And yeah, that's all I have for breaking news. All right. So we were at practice today and that this is breaking news, but this is kind of those breaking news that we were both at practice. We actually didn't do it at all, but Kenny was there. Kenny was doing stuff, and he was the same

old dude. A little slower but still the thing. Everything you said you listen to, you hear him, and you know, it's funny because I and maybe I'm making making too much of this, but I you know, I was watching players react to him, and you felt like they were trying to soak it in. You know. It just looked like that, like they were looking at him like it was day one, right, it was day one. No, wasn't day one, day three, but the pads

and stuff. Yeah, but I mean just felt you felt like he because he was going he like he walked up to a couple of his hands are moving and he's instructing, and they're like kind of okay, I you know, I get it. The teaching that he's doing out there, which is what he's so good at. Um, it's great to watch him, watch him doing all that stuff. Yeah. Um, we have a couple more minutes, so let's go a couple more clips from Oh we gotta call?

Yeah, no, oh ya, one more yeah. Yeah. The New England Patriots just resigned Matthew Judean to a um new deal worth up to fourteen million guaranteed. Um this uh isn't the years hasn't been finalized. Yeah, I just just broke like a couple minutes ago. Um, but it's going to be worth up to fourteen million guaranteed in twenty twenty three. But the max um dollars. He's gonna be eighteen million UM for the fully calling full contract. So he's got him locked up. So what are you gonna say,

Um, well, we got a couple more clips from Jeda. One of the things that he talked about. And it's funny because we go, we sit there at the press conference and we know what by the questions, we know who who's doing a story on what a right? So apparently Justin

Spears is going about to do a story on the defensive line. But he discussed the defensive line transformation and uh, you know, Jetfish talked about how important that's been and you know what's going on with the with the d line and so you know, he made he said some things that you and I we don't think about when he comes to that kind of stuff. But here's

what he had to say about the defensive line. Yeah, well it's been completely transformed in terms of the size of the player, in terms of what we're looking for in the type of the player, we've been very we've been very determined to get a certain player to play nos, a certain player to play three, a certain pass rushing mentality and skill sets, and not just take guys, and we've tried to. If you were to look at our

team, our goal. I heard Bill Parcels say at one time that if you have a lot of different body types play in the same position, you have a dog pound. Okay, that's not the idea. The idea is not to have all sorts of different looking players. The ideas to have. We want to have the six three, three hundred and thirty pound knows. We want to have the six three six four, three hundred and ten pound three technique that's a good athlete. We want to have the two hundred and

eighty pound two hundred and seventy five pound defensive end. We want to be able to have guys that can line up on the tight end. So the defensive line has completely changed. The other thing that's changed is the age of our defensive line. Our defensive line was super young last year when you talk

about who was playing that second half of the year. Now we're playing with four or five six twenty two year olds or older twenty two and twenty three year olds, and then the guys were freshmen are now sitting there and making them better. So it's pretty cool, you know. We talked about specific heights and weights and whatnot of specific positions, where he says, we're not

just getting guys, we're getting certain guys to fit certain positions. Again, one of those things that unless you're a coach, that's not even anything you think of. Well, he's funny because he's bringing all his experience with other coaches and he said this was parcels parcels Parcel's had this theory, so he brought that theory as well. Um, there's no question they're gonna be better

than what we've seen a long time. Yeah. Um, and you think defense has gotta be bet, it's got to be better, right right, right, We're going to see how they handle the secondary right and Keena thankfully he's here and then got cecil on everybody else. But that's gonna be the key, you know, with this passing passing conference right, Well, don't you think that I don't know if it's apropos or if that's the right word.

Uh, the best football season in a long time, conference wise, This is like the last hurrah in the last year that they're gonna be together. Because it's gonna be fun to watch. It is gonna be fun to watch. There's gonna be a lot of extra I don't you would call it just juice for every game. You know you're gonna have Stanford. They want to kick the crap out of Arizona because they're abandoned in the well. No, no, our guy said this today. We were at the practice and

um Blair. Blair says, because we talked about you and I talked about this all the time. It was gonna needs to win a couple of games. It must win kind of if they want to get to six or seven games. Oregon State and Washington State, the two guys, the two teams are gonna be left by nine. And then what did he say? He said, it's gonna be interesting to see. You know when Arizona goes to Washington State. How is that gonna be? How are the fans gonna be,

you know, and how the player is going to be. You know what are they gonna kind of take it out on them and stuff like that. It's gonna be because they are last shot at you guys, shot at you guys, and you guys are right heads for leaving us behind. Well, you see the Washington State statement, they had a statement we kind of we're disappointed kind of knew something like this might happen. YadA, YadA. What are you gonna do? I mean, god, I mean, what

do you do with your athletics? Now? I mean we're talking about a major decision that involves tens of millions of dollars for each of these schools. You know what's Washington State and in Organs Station in Oregon State. As they said, Organsta just got good, right, they just got good in football, and now their their their league is breaking up and they might wind up back in the Mountain West. Okay, so yeah, you go to the Mountain West. You're gonna win the Mountain West a whole bunch of times.

How fun is that? It'll be in the last Vegas Ball? Yeah? God, maybe yeah. I think come to the air Zone. They'll figure this out. I mean, Stanford, what Stanford gonna do? That's that's the one I would imagine. Unless Stanford and Cal feel like they're kind of joined at the hip because of their their location and they've always kind of been a partner um, if they want to go somewhere together, I don't know, but I would. I would. I don't know. I'm not knowing

the ins and outs of the dollars and how it would work. I would imagine the Stanford would just want to go independent and be sort of a Notre Dame kind of kind of program or way BYPU had been up up until, you know, getting into the big Well, No, that's an ugly thing. I just thought of. We're gonna be an a league with by U. I hate those guys. We've already discussed that. You may may not have to, if I remember correctly, had to apologize. I can't remember. No, not to them. I would never be no. No.

But remember the goler who said, I can't what was the incident? It was the letter. There was something that happened a year or so ago. Somebody called you. You you disparaged the BYU. He thought you did. Oh, I can't remember that. There are a bunch of goons. I said something bad about him. Yes, yes, he called me out on the phone's going to ring them just a second, we gonna call me again.

But um, you know it's it's uh, you know, I think that those schools that are going to get left behind, that now that's sort of the next thing, right, Okay, what happens to them? And I mean, I can't imagine what it would feel like if we were sitting here Arizona and nowhere to go and no where to go. Yeah, and Stanford's the premiere. I still think I was, So I've debateted this with a couple of people. They're the premier sports program in the country across across

the board. Now, will they continue to be, Probably, But it's like they're on an island. Yeah, and they're not the best football program, not the best, but when you when you throw them up again, throw all the sports out there, they're the best across the board. Athletic program, you know, in the country year in, year out, women's basketball, well, you know what's gonna happen there. Swimming, what's gonna happen there? And if your son or daughter was being recruited by Stanford and

everybody else, what are you gonna do? Oh, May's son, you should go to Stanford? Yeah, exactly, exactly. All right, let's take our break. Damien Alimeda from k Wild will join us. We haven't had Damien on the show in a while, but I saw him out of practice today and I've been running into him with all the stuff going on. So we'll we'll get some of Damon Damien's that take on what's going on around us and uh see what uh what he's thinking. So what we're got back.

Hill Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve's Jacob's aus. Now in the home, we have Damien Alameda from Kold. How are you? Oh? Trying to do my best to suffer from each stroke out of practice. It's all of us, that's all of us. I couldn't have a laugh when we were all huddled under that one little tent right they're waiting for practice. I wanted to run through that little the ice the water spirit. I did that through a couple of times. Smart. What's funny about that is that I'm

like, I'm basically glue to the other side. What would be I guess the east side of the practice field, up against that fence. And as the stuff continues to climb, the shadows and shade continue to like pull back like a vampire trying to get away from the sun. You're like Homer Simpson into the weeds, trying to get take the back back into the thing. So what was your impression today outside of the heat? Well, um, you know, I was. I was checking my phone a good chunk at

the time while we were out there. But uh, and you know, from what I understand, there's other things going on outside of a wild all that they have something to do with it. Um, No, you know, as far as Arizona is concerned, I'm I'm looking forward to seeing where they have to offer Montana. The wide receiver transfer from Colorado sharp Yeah looks good, yes, yes, And as far as that's me, let's see

here, they looked pretty sharp. I was focusing a lot of attention on the White receivers, and I mean, team looks bigger than he did the last season. So as far as all that stuff is concerned, Um, got a few weeks still, so we'll see. Yeah, you know it was it was Um Jed, No, it was Who's God who was saying that the teamak had really changed his body, uh and got much bigger.

I remember it was Montana talked about just athletic. Yeah, but I think I think at media day, I think Jed said that about about the team Mac as well. Who you just You've done a lot of work in the weight room and looks different. It does. He looks like on to me, which is exactly what you expected. You know what I found funny though? Um At media I was talking to Cowings, the White Faver coach, and he said the one thing that disappointed him from last season was the last

yards after to catch his wife Roop. And that took me back because all I could think about was Cowings breaking tackle, the time breaking tackle. It's like, wow, and you standards must be up here because that's all I could think exactly, because I mean that's what he did. You're both him and Dorian Singer. Now maybe maybe Team Mack not as much, but he doesn't have the speed that those guys have. But he wanted to cut some

balls and nobody else is going to catch, right. Yeah, and then and then he tells me that he's gonna have to go over to Scottie Graham in the running backs room to find out what the secret is to being able to break tackles. So I go over to Scottie and I asked him about that, and Scottie gives me this weird look, like, trust me, he's got everything under control over. Yeah, you know what I asked you about the impressions with Montana today. I was impressed too, very right.

Uh. Then he says he's you know, he's already he already has his degree. Uh he's in sports management, no sports communications. And I'm thinking this kid is pretty smart. Yeah, he knows exactly what he's doing. And they also say that, uh real estate development. Yeah, yeah, he's he's going for his master's the real estate development. He's had a degree in communication figured out. Yeah, I was. I was very I was very impressed with with Montana and I just standing there too. I'm looking at

him. I'm like, man, he's got the size on Dorian that Dorian didn't have. Right. Well, I was looking at his biceps and not not in a in a bad way, just thinking that this is you know, this guy's a receiver. Yeah right, he's you know, not super tall, but you know, a big enough receiver that he you know, he can be. It looks like he can be physical out there, and he did talk about him He's got worth to be honest. Do he looked like he could get in the defensive and just put a hit right right,

No doubt so. So Damien, you know we we we were. I've been kicking this around all day, well for weeks now, but you know you mentioned you were you were watching looking at your phone a lot of the time at practice. Um, just give me your your thoughts on this. I mean, do you hate this? I hate it? But they are where they are now, so make the best of it. That's my feel.

What do you what have you been thinking about just all that's been happening, with all the realignment stuff and the PAC twelve, just going down the down the toity. My my my, uh my emotion. It's complicated with me, It's complicated um so again, full disclosure. I'm an olag. I was born to rich in southern California. I camp page during the Brothers era of you say basketball. Terry Donahue went to my church. I was met. Had I not completely messed up on my acts, I would have

applied to UCLA. But that's the whole of the story. Like, I was huge bruin fans. I was super excited about this opportunity here in Tucson when this job opening came up because of the University of Arizona. Because I knew covering conference that I loved all my life, like my entire life. Um and I accepted this job knowing that. So when you CLA left and you C left last year, I was totally disheartened. Um and map that basically the past is dead to right. It's like a little piece of me

died. Yeah. Were you mad at first? Emotional? That's me being about it. Were you were you? Were you mad at them? What's that? Were you mad at them at U C l A and SC Yeah? Yes, okay, yes, like and here okay, So here's the thing. So the day the news broke, in fact, the moment the news broke, I was sitting in the parking lot of Kenny Dellree High schoo waiting on Turner Washington, who big NCA thrower went to school, CDO champion and I had. I was like totally focused on talking with him his story.

This news hit and like everything the window and like Turner and sat there talking about conference realignment for like the first ten minutes of our conversation, Like I was super disheartened. Okay again, that's my emotional die talking. Now flip it over to the business side of it. Absolutely, Arizona needs to come to the Big twelve. It needs to happen. Where do you think they're gonna fall in this group of teams in the Big twelve? First competitive

first football? And then where where do they Where do they rank competitively? Do you think in the Big twelve? Now? I mean if talking football, mid tier like probably low mid tier. But they're on the ride. That's you know, a lot of folks were making fun of Arizona because I did. Some one of the netsiders said something to the effective like Arizona has like anothering, I wouldn't make a difference in the pack, wouldn't be losing

much. But I mean that's a little sided as far as I'm concerned, given the improvements that Jed has made from year two to year three and then now shoot with the recruits he's got who knows, um, so lower to mid tier, but there's plenty of room to rise U basketball wise. I mean, you know it's just pretty electric. Yeah, it's gonna make it fun for sure at McHale. Um. So based on everything is I mean, being that you're from southern California, you just got to be really sad

at what happened? Is what with what's happened to the Pac twelve, I mean just sad it's here. Man, I got pour one out like this is. I still haven't come to terms with it, um because I'll be honest, like I am going to be forced to care about the Big twelve because I just don't and I never have. I've always been a pack kid, a pack ten kid. I have vivid, vivid memories of where I was when you know what I mean, Like it was ingrained in me, like I can't usail a household, So I didn't go to a packpool,

but I fell in mind with it. I was the only kid in my dormitory freshman year at Santa Clara when sc and UCLA played each other. I was the only kid in the lobby or whatever the TV was watching that game.

So to see it all collapsed, and and here's the thing, to see it collapsed in the way it has and for the reasons that it happened, makes it exponentially worse for a kid like me, for a guy like me, because the day, in my opinion, it all comes down the arrogance of these conference initials and the lack of four sights that they had, and the four thoughts that they thought they had but which was in reality a lot of naivete. Yeah it didn't, it didn't. It didn't have to

happen. Yeah, No, And it didn't happen to happen thirteen months after the fact. Yeah, you could have been solved a long time ago, A long time ago itself, a day ago. M Yeah, yeah, yeah, who do you Who do you blame? One and two? Who saved Arizona? Okay, so who do I blame? It would be very

very easy to blame, you know, conferences. It would be very easy to blame Fock for being the deal maker between the Big ten poaching UCLA and usc UM ultimately, though, you had Larry Scott had an opportunity to bring on Texas and Oklahoma back in two thousand and eleven. Right, And when I talk about arrogance, um, it was an arrogant bo to turn away Texas and Oklahoma and in turn also turn away you know, tex in Oklahoma state. Right, flash forward to sec and um, excuse me to tax

to Oklahoma Boltings sec it. You know when they were central tax from the Big twelve to come together again? There was arrogance there? Who turned that? Because what we're the Pack twelve? Were the pack? Can we have these higher standards that other schools and other conferences can't meet? And and like

where Yeah, no, no, you're you're absolutely right. I mean, and I guess I know Larry Scott said a lot of this stuff in motion with the way he managed a conference, but you know, the conference presidents let him do it. Yeah. Yeah, So I'm really against across the board. Right, And so who saved who saved Arizona? Who saved Arizona President talktor Bobby Ryan? Yeah right, well he had no choice too. He was like pulling rabbits. Yeah, yeah, there were rabbits coming out

all over the place. I mean, at the end of the day, you know, he is the one that is leaving chart. He is he is the face of this decision, all of what it is. Right. Yeah, he never mind what was best for the conference. He made the decision that he knew was for the university, because at the end of the day, that is his job, right And if you're talking financials and dollars, then a thirty one seven million dollars can pay out a year is infinitely

better than a low twenty twenty four million dollars has to pay out. If you're talking about bosure, being televised onn and Fox right now is still better exposure than being televised on Apple TV. Yeah. So if you're talking about the full business aspect of this decision, it's hard to argue that moving to the Big twelve would be detrimental. Yeah, I mean, is you to to be kind of dumb, But it doesn't take a heart surgeon to look

at that and say what the right thing to do is. And sure he is a heart surgeman and he knew what the right thing to do was. But you also have to have some I hate to use the word courage, but just some for like Cahonies to just go ahead and make the decision, you know, because because by by the sounds of it, Michael Crowe was still fighting this to the very end even this morning. Yeah. Yeah, I mean well, I mean you can understand why. Right he was Larry

Scott. He was the backing of Larry Scott, very specific, ten specific, twelve oriented you know again, La go pack. I understand that. But he was riding with tunnel vision. Yeah. Yea, Fox Sports fourteen fifty streaming live. I mean I had radio whip. Hey, welcome back to I the Bot Hero, Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Roberto, You're jenkinsos So. So yeah, I was just kind of reminiscing it. This is rare early. There's nothing officially official yet, right because no one's made an

els, but but it's happening. So you cover the team in mid nine eighties, blah blah blah, your best best moment, your best memory as a reporter covering the league involving in Arizona. Oh, you know, I think Hood posted that up on Twitter. Doesn't people to do that? Okay, I didn't my favorite moment, you know, look it was for me if in terms of covering the team, it was the five year period from eighty five to ninety nineteen nine you're talking about as a reporter, Just what

team covering Arizona. Covering Arizona, I was, I was the back I was I was basketball two years, football two years, and then the first year I was like the backup on stuff. And actually my first year year in one year, one year, I did football kind of unintentionally because long story, Dick's first year ended up covering a lot of that season at right because mcgrudo was on a special project. So, um, I posted the Arizona O you answer? You answered? Answered the question post Arizona beating North

Carolina to get to the final four. Very memorable moment because that was that was the thing to me where you know, as a little kid growing up watching the NC Double A tournament and watching the final four, and now I'm covering this team. It's my job and I'm going to cover the final four. Yes, that's that's a huge moment in the league. Okay, but what I mean in the team, But what about specific to pack twelve pack? Then? Um, so like a game in the PAC twelve, I

think you were going to be losses man. Well, well even then, I mean big moments the Cecil You you were a fan of Cecil, Right, you're a fan? Yeah, I said, yeah, I was sitting in the seats for that game because because I was covering the Basketball's a huge moment. I flew back from I flew back from Vegas that morning because Arizone the night before and played in the preseason N I t at u n LV so I was. I was literally on the on the tarmac in Vegas,

like an hour before the game was going to be supposed to start. Um so um that, you know, the cecil thing. But to me, it's it's been the loss of Steve because it's been like, um, you know, the the ninety eight game against UCLA. It was a great game and then it got away from in the third quarter and they lost that game. They win that game, now people, you know, forget that there was Arizona wins that game. They're undefeated at the end of the year.

They're still not going to the Rose Ball. They'd have played in the National Championship Game at the Festival because that would have been the first year of the BCS. So how much would that have sucked? Right? I said, let's lose one and go to the Rose Bowl, and UCLA screwed that up for us. So you know that that game. Um, there was the game at Cal ninety three that cost them the Rose Bowl. Another loss. Uh you know, an interception return for a touchdown and they lose the game

at Cal app blowing the twenty to nothing halftime lead. But then things like you know Sean Elliott breaking the Pac twelve scoring record at McHale. Right, Um, I was there in eighty eight the year Uh, well, in the eighty eight season, they clinched. Uh, they clinched the Pac twelve championship at UCLA. You know, Arizona beat Ucla in overtime. You know, Sean Ellie, it's a it's a leaning jumper from the corner and they win that game. You know, things like that. There's a whole bunch

of them. Well, just something give me chills. Um, I think you were covering the team. I think you were football. Uh. Dary Lewis stopping Musgrave on the one inch. That was. That was my first years back as a fan. That was. That was the nine that I was right there and it felt like I got hit too. Yeah, it was unbelievable. Our seats were on that gold line. So that happened,

right, huge play. That was exciting to me. A lot of the lot of the Stanford Arizona basketball games with Lutan's in Montgomery at at Maples because they were crazy. Well again, another loss, the Arizona's only packed pack ten loss of the eighty eight season was that and I remember that, you know, sitting there and you know, remember the press seats there were, and people are jumping over me. What's the first save your computer? Yeah, exactly. I had one of those, one of those radio shacks,

and I was I was trying to save my computer. Yeah. I remember those days under those those games. The uh the Robinson shot from half court Tiger Woods on the sideline beat on TV. Um that one. There's so many games with Stafford and then Oregon. When the when when Freddie Banks and those guys were or you know those two guys in Arizona Damon going home and just destroying Oregon. Um, just so many great memories, you know, I mean, uh, you know there was a you know Arizona beat in

Washington at Washington you know football in football. Yeah, the field goal in the rain, yeah, right, the driving rain. Yes, standing on the sidelines in the driving rain with not enough clothes on, right, I remember. I remember that for a different reason. But it was very fun, very cool. Um. I had another one a second ago. Um. Uh oh my bachelor party. My bachelor party was in nineteen ninety was

a trip to see to the Arizona UCLA game at the Rose Bowl. Darrel Lewis interception returned for a touchdown right there at the end of the game to win the game. We were we were there for that. I remember that. I remember that, you know, my first time big That was a huge win for us because we we were we ran a stretch of game road trips or Arizona didn't win. We were always disappointed on these roads. I think that something that was one of the people might say that that was one

of the first times that we saw Arizona win on the road. Yeah, which is very cool. Yeah, so many long and there's I'm missing so many other ones obviously games here that you know, the mcshot. Yeah, I was here the MC shot. I wasn't here at the time. I was in the seats for that the first time, the first time Arizona did win the PAC twelve PAC ten title. Uh And and this is how I wrote it. Bobby gets the game program goes to John Wooden, can you

sign this because it was the changing the guard? Right? Um, things like that now that happened at UCLA as well. Yeah, right, yeah, that happened so so many and so many different sports. Come on, softball, I'm sure we have Ken Ryan here, Come on the duels between Arizona and UCLA when you Arizona took over for usel the dominance and all the

basketball games, so many, so many basketball games. Yeah, you know, whether it was at Oregon, you know, at an old Matt Cord or going to you know, Guilt Coliseum and you know Gary Payton and those you know those so no, no that you say this, I gotta get ravs on. I gotta get him on to talk about those good ole days, getting him on the sidelines, roaming the sidelines and talking to you guys. Will he was getting jopped. Yeah. Yeah, but you know it's

uh, it's gonna be sad. Oh yeah, That's why I think this year will be celebrated kind of. I think there's gonna be more people pissed than celebrating. No, because this is it for this is this is like the Rocking Chair Tour. Yeah. Because you're giving your you're seeing an old

friend for the last time. Yeah, it is. And you know, I mean, you know, I'm thinking, you know, I'm gonna go to the Ali Coliseum for the USC game and I'm gonna kind of try and soak it all in one last time, having you know, we we've had some great trips over there. He's had some bad trips, some great eight

ones. You know, we've had trips where we went over there and went to the horse races the day before or anyone of a number of things, and add some great times, some big losses, a couple of wins, and um, you know, it's all all of that stuff, is it? You know? And then you know to me, what the hell happens to the Rose Bowl? Now? Right? Yeah? Well good luck?

Well good think about it though. Is Arizona in a better position to go to the Rose Bowl because because the Pac twelve is not gonna take that spot anymore because it's gone. I know, the Rose boll is gonna be a part of the playoff. You know. So now you know, did your chances improve assuming they don't go this year? Do your chances improve? And I was gonna say, hold your horses gonna this year? We talked about it with you. How many games are gonna win? I think they're gonna

win? Okay, my six Okay, that's a number that's sort of everybody's kind of yeah, just kind of sitting on because you don't want to believe that they're gonna go five and Steven, they're gonna be better. I'll agree with that. Yeah, but or what does that translate to enough wins? Because else is getting better? Yeah, yeah, we'll see what happens. I don't want to I don't want to be picky, and you know, backers can't be choosers. But I hope if they go six and six,

they don't go to like to the Independence Bulb. I'd go to the New Mexican Ball if they were to. That's a fun ball. I didn't go to that one. That the comeback because the Florida game was I had to work the game. But I've watched that. I've watched the end of that game. Yeah, probably forty times. A great comeback. Yeah, that was so much fun. So many memories. If anybody wants, well,

we have like five minutes. Anybody wants to call in and talk about one of their favorite games with anybody lost win, we'll start bringing you know, as soon as this gets finalized, maybe we start bringing guys in and give us your pack twelve memories or pack pack ten memories. Well, that's just the thing. The reason that I didn't see how yours pull. I saw Pete Williams talking about it's too early for me to talk to he said. To digest this and who to blame. But Pete was a part of a

lot of it. Yeah. It was you know again talking about moments, right, Uh, Larry Smith's first year, Ucla comes to town. They're undefeated, they're number two in the country. During the game, number one Alabama loses, So the assumption is Ucla is going to be the new number one. Then Arizona beats Yeah. Yeah, you know, another guy we gonna try to maybe have you had Joe. I've had Joe Nils a couple of times, so and he was part of the seventy Yeah. I rushed

the court. I might have smacked him in the butter or something. When the spaghetti Spaghetti Night, you know, that's when it first started. Yeah, the yeah, that was the first season. Yeah, the first season seven. Yeah, those are the really good old days. Yeah. Yeah, and that was Michale was It's it's nuts now, but it's it's way subdued compared to what it was that time, because three quarters of the court were surrounded by students and not you know, not the seventy eight, seventy

eight, twenty two, forty five years. This is so, so this is forty five years of that's actually technically be forty six forty six years, forty six year coming up to get birth and then to end. Yeah, forty six year old mid midlife crisis. Man. I thinking back to that forty six years ago, and I thought we were gonna be going to the Rose Bowl at some point. Yeah, you're like, You're like Josh Pastor,

Look, let's really get to the Rose Bowl. Dang happened. Well time, well, you know, they'd have to get into it now in in a playoff. Wait, you're through the playoff because the Boar the Ball is still gonna exist. I gotta wonder, though, what did they think now right? What are they thinking about? What what's the future of the Rose Bowl? And maybe the future of the Rose Ball is just going to rely on being a playoff a playoff venue, you know, or does somebody

get that as a playoff venue? Does the Big twelve get it as a as a playoff venue since some of the Pac twelf teams are you know, since the four former Pac twelf teams in their league, But the Big ten can say that, and the Big Ten has been one of the teams in there so be interesting to see what happens with the Rose Bond. What where it affiliates. I'll tell you if it, if it, let's say,

if it affiliates with the Big Ten and the Big Twelve. I'm jumping up and down because the chances, the chances are back, right, you know. And as I said, I was saying last second, you know, I think the chances are better for Arizona in the Big twelve than they are then they've been in the Pact. You know what's trending on Twitter? Bill Wollen. Everyone wonders how's he doing? How's he doing? Man? Still,

you know they're the competention chaps for a reason. Stepford does a pretty good job of doing what they do UCLA obviously, and they've won the most national champions When you com buying all sports, you know, buy I think it's buy a lot too if I recall buy a ton. But you know when, when when did they last win a national championship in football? What it was? You know? Matt Leiner Reggie Bush here, Yeah, and you may want to do a quick correction. I know you brought it up,

brought yeah, Yes, Matt Leinart has one a Heisman trophy. I made the comment that I didn't think that Reggie Bush had one one, but I didn't think Matt Leiner had one. I got it. I got about three texts. Did okay? Yeah? Well again, I can't. We couldn't remember Devin's name this morning. I mean, what do you mean we You couldn't remember it either? You don't, don't, come on, don't, don't, don't. He calls me, he's who's the internet? Who's there? Jason was there? Oh? Devin? Okay, Devin, That's

not how that conversation went. You paused as if you couldn't remember, dude. I have tight to me to process. I think you can. I'm not a young man anymore. You paused because you did not remember, dude, who's there? Who's there? I mean, come on, I don't know you both name. That's what we have you Yeah, blue hit. It definitely a good show today. We'll reminisce a lot more. It's fun and we will. We'll have lots of time to do it. We'll have a whole year to do it. And because by this time next year,

we're gonna be talking about Arizona opening up in the Big twelve. Holy cowste can't believe we just said that. Well things end, good marriages end, all that stuff. Here we are yeah, we are all right. Hey, thanks for being here all week. Everybody appreciate it. Jason, nice job on the board. Thank you, and we will talk to everybody again on Monday.
