Steve Ravera and jaygn Salez. They have their eye on the ball on Tucson Sports Stage JAFT Fox Sports fourteen fifty extreaming live. I mean, iHeart radio. Wham Hey, welcome back to any of the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve, He's Jay, and now we have Adam with breaking news. This is I on the Ball breaking news on Fox Sports fourteen
fifty. All right, so some breaking news out of the NFL last night during the draft broke a record with six quarterbacks and the top twelve note defenders
were taken, so pretty offensive. Sure, And I think even Saban was talking about this where somebody was how in today's NFL, if you're not scoring points, you're gonna lose, doesn't matter how good of a defense you have, because that's and it's always kind of like a copy it's a copycat league, and everybody wants to score because Mahomes just kind of changed the mean is the complexion of the league, and then they want to find the next guy
who's like him. Yeah, I mean the first defensive player was selected fifteen Yeah, Yatu Latsu out of UCLA to the Colts. So there was a lot of Pac twelve dudes. I don't know if you noticed that, Jay, and you're thinking the Pack twelve was pretty darn good. But no one will ever know that. No, no, yeah, no, yeah, I'm what's his name? John Kenzon had a really snarky remark about that. He said he said the Pac twelve had uh two quarterbacks drafted in the first
round, that had a team in the National Championship Game. All these things said, and they couldn't get a TV deal done. Yeah it makes no Yeah, it makes no sense. Also, the league, Roger Goodell said, in an eighteen game regular season, isn't unreasonable. They're good right now at seventeen, but you never know in the future, which is not good for the players. But you got that whole dynamic between owners and players. So you guys, you must be happy. No, no, no,
no, from your Chicago people. Oh from the draft. Yeah, that was a great Maybe by the time you turn fifty you might have a Super Bowl. Damn, I'm the grumpy guy you are. I think we're headed in the right direction. Some baseball news we talked about a little earlier. Anthony Ron don he towards hamstring. He's out and definitely. Again not surprising. He's been for his entire Angel tenure. So tough break for the Angels again. Yeah, and he's and he's just been. They spent a whole
ton of money on that guide and nothing. You know, he can't Yeah, you can't stay on the field. He can't stay on the field. College Football News athletes tried to get Iowa gambling probes. There are athletes tied to Iowa gambling probe damages in civil lawsuits. Oh yeah, because they cleared everybody, or they ready cleared everybody. Yeah, for most everybody else, yes, So they're trying to clear their name. And then the ex Iowa
offensive coordinator, Brian Ferentz, he joins Maryland as an offensive assistant. So he joins, uh for you. The head coach, Kevin Summon, say, did you say that because he's an offensive guy. I think he's the quarterbacks coach. He's yes, yes, he'll be working with the offense. And yeah, the guy, the guy couldn't score ten points a game. Honestly, that's why he was fired. Oh yeah that I had a great
defense, so that's what kept him in games until it didn't. Absolutely out of the NBA, Amazon is nearing a deal to acquire NBA broadcast rights, which would be big for them, one of the primary broadcasters for the league's games. This contract would expect Amazon to show Marquee regular season games, playoff contest, including the possibility of conference finals games. They're looking for six all in the world wide web, right, No more TV. I want to
sell them. You want to be screen TV, I'll sell to you. It's not gonna be worth anything anymore. I'm gonna watch it on my computer, on my phone, your computer to your TV. Will you have to go over and set it up for me? Thank you. No, I'm not to do that myself. It's easy, but kid, do it for me. It's easy. Also in the NBA, Nets are hiring ex Michigan head coach Juwan Howard as their assistant. They just hired a new NBA coach
from Sacramento. So this assistant from Jody Fernandez. So Jowan will be his lead assistant. And that was pretty much okay. So, so mine is wait, I have breaking news. Oh, don't don't screw with me. I find out how to get the spring tickets. Oh okay, no, go ahead, yeah, okay. It was such a basic thing as my fault. I'm here with Matt with matt Ins, and they're like, I know, the two of them are sitting in the rocks the way that guy's not really very smart. Okay. So okay, go to the u of
A website. On the U of Athletics website, there's three different links, you know, stories about the Spring game. So you go there, you click on one of the links, uh, and you go to a page and it'll give you a link to the ticket page the ticket site. Click on that link and you got to put and it gives you just this mint and it just a place you got to put in a code and the code it says it in the release. The code is spring in all Cats.
And then you can get your tickets. Okay, so it's not hard, okay, So Athletics, there's no Wildcats dot com or Arizona Arizona Waldcats dot com. Okay, all right, And then on any one of the they're like the first the first two on top News, the first two items are about the Spring game. Click on one of those, uh. You go, then you'll find a link it says click here to claim your community ticket. And that's where and it said right there. It says, use the
promo code spring. Okay, that's the thing that I wasn't seeing. Okay, I am a bode Okay, that's how you get your tickets and tickets you want. Okay. So my breaking news is kind of a kind of a big one. You remember Ray Smith put here under Sean Sean Miller at the time he brought he hurt his knee. Then he came back at the time Sean Miller said he was going to be the best player that he ever recruited here, and then he got hurt twice. A really good kid,
really likable kids. Okay, you felt bad for you? Hold that thought because yesterday or Wednesday? Do you guys know what I'm talking about? You know what I'm saying. So okay, So he he's a teacher now in Vegas. He's from Vegas. Was he the one on that video? He's the one on the video who knocked out the kids who said and now he was arrested. He was arrested, and now he's he's going to face some assault charges. And they let him out today pending some restrictions, of course,
and now he's probably never going to teach again. And he knocked the hell out of that. I saw, well, I saw those videos were popping up, and that was the race. And I didn't know that race. I mean, how many people in this country named Ray Smith? Right? And he goes by ri Kwan Smith, now a substitute teacher who has been with the district since November, was booked into Clark County Detention Center on a film account with battery with substantial bodily arm. The dude went down,
he did. I saw it, And you know, I know that. You know, there's people out there saying, well, how much does a teacher have to take? Well, you know what, as a teacher, you have to take everything. Yeah, which is very sadly, you can't do that. And and and kids, you know, kids are kids, and they're you know, they're a lot of bad ones in the idiots.
But there's certain things you can't do. And that's one of them. Pre pre COVID, I taught at a local junior high during all this craziness for a friend who was a principal or is a principal, and I went, Okay, cool, it's gonna be fun with the kids. It was the most unbelievable thing of about to never do it again. I heard words I'd
never heard before, and the kids didn't give a crap. Steve, And you know, twenty years ago, you know, I even longer ago than that is when I was still at the paper and I would get asked to go talk to kids at high school, you know, cools about sugar and stuff like that. And there was one of the times I went and there was a substitute teacher and they didn't care. Probably Oh my god, I wanted to stand at the front of the room and you tell at all of
them. Yeah. What I've learned, when I learned, is that as long as the building's not on fire, it was a good day. Yeah, I mean, which is sad to hear. And you guys have been students, not you know, students back then, not too long ago. Are we wrong? No, No, it sucks. But I mean they feel like they could get away with anything, and well, yeah, because you can't. You can't touch them, you can't say things to him. There's so much you can't do now that. Did you ever get swats when
you were gets paddled? Oh god, no, god no, no, you never did. No, No, were you crazy? I've never done a drug in my life or a gun swat. I'm pretty proud of that I got. I went to a Catholic she got paddled in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh grade. And I'm the back guy, you know, and my parents went to the grave and never knew. Well, well you're rick. No, No, now he does, and now he didn't know nobody what what he what would he have done? How do you
know? Then kick the crap out of me? To you he thought you thought you thought you got a beating at school? Here comes right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no, I would never. I went to Catholic school too, and they didn't take it easier. Yeah, no, I got to know paddled four grades in a row. Write this stuff down, guys, if you didn't witness, it's not gonna be him. I'm sort of proud of this because I look what I've become. Yeah what I got hit. I got hit in elementary school, and I came out
kind of semi normal. So that's where we went from racist and jay being paddled at schools and seventh grade transition. I give, I can't remember I can even name the teachers, man, okay, okay, So that that was my breaking news. Un Fortunately I didn't know that was him. Yeah, I had to say, I had to look at the photos and stuff, and yeah, that was him. He was a very good guy.
I'm sure he still is. But when you get pushed to him to a little you know, teachers can like everybody else, you know, you have a limit, but there's still a line you cannot cross. And I'm afraid that that's a line that you cannot right. And and he's twenty seven years old. God he was. He was eighteen years probably old, nineteen years when he was here, fantastic player. And then he got hurt. Maybe he blew out in the Red movie. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the
Red Movie. He kept getting hurt and he kept coming back and people thought he was gonna, uh, you know, be you know that guy, and he just couldn't. He just couldn't stay. He just couldn't stay in the in the lineup right. Bad. That's right. I think that's all I had. You got your you got your internet thing fixed or realized.
So okay, So yeah, the tickets are available to go on. Go on to the athletics website, click on the link that takes you to the ticket form and the and the code is spring all all cats and tickets are available there no no charge. Show. Hey, Tony just went you art again? Seventh of the year. Yeah, Dodger stuff one zip, one zip already top of the first. Okay, uh, you want to take a break since we're dying here, and then we'll have maybe maybe maybe Grammar
will give us a call. Yeah, we won't keep him on a long because I'm sure he's working the story. Okay, where, okay, where's that where Let's go back to the raceman thing. Where was he? Where is he that this happened? It was in Las Vegas. He's from Las Vegas, so that's where he was. And he was a substitute teacher, as a substitute teacher, right, so I'm sure that was. You know, when you're a substitute teacher, you're a target man, even if you're
six five sixty seven whatever. And and you saw the disparity in the the guy must have been fifteen sixteen whatever talking crap. You know, let me get my hands on they can't do Yeah, I hate that, I really hate that. Yeah, what are you what are you going to do as a teacher? Your your dignities being question your everything. It's not it's not a good look, and what do you do? Walk away and hope it doesn't retire. Yeah, there's no right or wrong answer. Yeah, dang,
all right, let's too bad. Okay, Yeah, let's go take our break. We're gonna come back. We'll talk more about whatever you want to talk about. iHeartRadio app. This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jacob Salez on Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. Hey, welcome back to I on the Ball here Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve. He's Jay. Now on the phone, we have Jeff Grammer from the Albuquerque Journal formerly of the Tucson Citizen. Him and I are colleagues there. Jeff, how way are you? Thanks for taking a call. I'm doing good, man, I was.
How's Tucson doing. I haven't been back in a long time. Yes, it's fine that it has a little Albuquerque flavor today, little windy and not like Tucson is normally. But you're working on a story. We saw that you had retweeted a story about Ruben Douglas, a former guy from here. Yeah, so I was. I got a text message this morning that
was a tweet from EuroLeague Basketball announcing that Ruben had died. Ruben Douglas, who was at Arizona what was at the ninety nine two thousand season, I believe right, Yeah, and he had transferred to un M played three years here, was a scoring champion in two thousand and three, three years all Mountain West, and a really good college career here with some teams that weren't all that good, and then went on and had a great career overseas in
Europe, one of EuroLeague Finals MVP one year. And apparently, as we reported earlier today, he had died earlier this week. From that I just got off the phone about ten minutes ago with his brother. He actually did die last Friday in Costa Rica with still somewhat kind of unknown infection that he came down with. But he had been spending a lot of time in Costa Rica and and in Arizona where he lived, Okay, so he wasn't on
there competing or anything like that. He was just yeah, had made some connections and some friends and and it sounded like he was kind of living in both places, both extended vacations kind of what this was. But maybe not at a hotel or anything, but somewhere he kind of had the had been living and staying for a while, but there. The family still isn't entirely sure what he came down with or what it was, but it was he was in good health and came down with something and passed away last Friday.
As before you came on, I was Jay and the guys that if you're Ruben Douglas or a guy like him, and you're that guy in Albuquerque, you probably don't have to buy a beer by a meal, you don't have to be anything over there because he was so good. And just if you even look on just on social media, to go on x or or Twitter as I still call it the you look at some of the replies U and M has put a story out that we have a story out on the Albuquerque
Journal. You just look at some of the replies on social media, and it's people telling stories. And I remember him doing this. I remember this about him, and it's he wasn't just a guy who scored a whole bunch of points on a horrible team. There was some truth to that as well too. They weren't the best of teams, they weren't winning the titles or
anything. He was a guy that was as good as scorer by the end of his college career kind of developed into just a fantastic score now he saw I believe why he came to New Mexico is he realized he probably wasn't going to start, if I remember, if I have my years lined up correctly, he came in on a one heck of a recruiting class I think was like Richard Jefferson with Walton maybe. And then the year after was Gilbert Arenas. Is that right, that's w Gilbert Arena's coming in and decided maybe he
could take his chance and somewhere else, and uh just flourished. And then one year McKay, yeah, well it was it was Reuben. Two guys came in, Luke, Grecor, and Gilbert came in and he said, well and he liked to score. He liked to shoot, and then Luke's system that didn't work. Everybody has some shooting and he played. Have you talked to fran at all because he played for sholl Yeah, yeah, I
reached out to friend. I texted him. He was traveling to New York when I first reached out to him, So I haven't heard back from him or McKay, but I've reached out to both of them today to talk with both of them, and hopefully I assume both of them will get back to me. But I do know fran On social media. Uh shared the link I had sent him in a text message, which was just announcing that Reuben
had died. It's just stunning when you see something like that, right, And I mean I didn't know Ruben Douglas from Joe Schmoe, but you know, I read that and I go, God, here's the you know, dude, forty four years old and all of a sudden, he's just gone just like that, you know, you know, in supposedly you know, fine health, and all of a sudden, something sudden like that happens and a life ends, and it's just it just it just kind of shocks you
to your core when when something like that happens. And that's that's how it was for me. And like I said, you know, I mean, I yues, you know, I was at the stat table and I saw Ruben play in the whole bit. But it's kind of like more of a just stunning that an athlete in good health that this can happen. It's yeah, kind of everybody here in Albuquerque certainly off guard too, because he was a guy that you know, Steve mentioned never En have to buy a beer
in Albuquerque, and that was true. But I don't think he'd been back much. He'd been They did an alumni All Star game here, I want to say twenty fifteen, and as far as I know, that was the last time he had been back to Albuquerque, and man, people just you know, loved seeing him in twenty fifteen, and a bunch of the former logos, you know, Danny Granger came back and some guys that global fans were just happy to see. But Ruben Douglas was sort of the old guard
of the bunch that still played. And you know, there were some older Lobos too that didn't play. Ken Thomas was there, didn't play. Some of the older guys that played in the nineties and eighties weren't playing. But of the group that actually still got up and down the court a little bit, Ruben Douglas in twenty fifteen was there, and there were kids there that had never seen him play, you know, born after his time in the
pit. But there are also some Lobo diehards that were wearing number five Lobo jerseys, and you know, you don't see that at a whole lot of players. So that was twenty years ago that we played here, and a lot of people showed up with number five jerseys. Though that day you spoke to his brother, did you is his father still around? So his father passed. I want to say it was five years ago. His brother called me four or five years ago and yeah, So his father was from Panama,
and Rubin did play him the Panama national team a little bit. I don't know if he ever I don't know what level he played at, like he was on their national team, but I don't know if it was ever on a cycle where they were playing like an Olympic years or qualifiers. But he did play something for the Panama national team. And his father was from Panama. Came to the States to play college at somewhere in Wyoming, not the University of Wyoming, but that's what brought his family to the States.
His mother and one older brother, Ramone, are still living in California, and then he has another older brother named Russell, who's living in Washington, d C. Neither one of them played basketball to Ruben's level. And just speaking with Ramone, you know a little bit of a little while ago, he just said watching Rubin play, especially kind of come that senior year when
he's leading the nation and scoring, averaging twenty eight a game. He just he said, he's putting up you know, at the college level, he's doing Kobe like things. Where there were games just there was nobody that could stop him. The only thing that would stop him as if they couldn't get the ball to him. And uh, and it's true he was. He was pretty special by that senior year. And it just would have been crazy to think had he stayed at Arizona. I don't know how it would have
worked. I don't know. Probably wasn't you know, There's only one ball in the quarter at the time, so who knows if it would have ever developed into what he developed into it New Mexico. But uh, there was so much talent on those Arizona teams and uh and Ruben was very much a guy that at least offensively, could have held his own with those guys had he stuck around. So it would have been interesting to see. Yeah, no here average points and would not That's one of the reasons why he left,
because he wanted the ball and wanted to score. And the reason I asked about his dad is because his dad I remember talking to him a lot because he was always in Loot's office. Why isn't Ruben playing and let's listen, let's change the subject real quick. Uh you covered you covered New Mexico while you covered New Mexico full time. They played at Clemson in the first round. Everybody in the world had New Mexico beating Clemson and they didn't.
And uh what happened? Well, two things surfire signed that they're not going to win is when everybody just jumps on board, right like the On the one hand, I'll say that, like they ended a decade long NCUAA tournament drought and they've never had a decade long drought like that. It's it's been a while, so they were rebuilding. There was a sense of kind of happy to be there. I don't think any of them would admit that.
But they did win four games in four days to win the Mountain West Tournament, you know, the week prior, first team that ever did that. So there was a little bit of all that, like maybe they maybe they were tired, But I think the most part was, like there's one type of team that was a horrible matchup for them all year, and that was a big team and and Clemson was bigger than them at every single position, all five spots, on the floor had two maybe three inches on every player
they were going up against. And this was a Lobo, a un M Lobo team that had a six foot point guard in Jalen House, who, by the way, was tremendous, and there was on a state and transfer Mike Babies nephew, Henry Biby's grandson and obviously Eddie House's son. He was tremendous, but he was six foot tall. And the other two guards they played were six two and six two. Jamal Mashburn Junior was one of them.
So they played three guards who were six two and shorter, and if those three guards were having trouble getting their shots up, it was gonna be a long game. And they had a few of those this year where they played a Boise State that was a bigger team, and they would play Clemson that was a bigger team, and they just could not score and he got ugly and the NCAA turn up matchup tournament matchup ended up being just like that.
We're talking to Jeff Grammer, reported the Albuquerque Journal on the working on the rub In Douglas Strubber and I also asking you, but some New Mexico questions related to Arizona. So what have they got here on the football staff and Danny Gonzales man Danny was the saddest thing about Danny not working out in Albuquerque for un M is that he was a local kid, went to Valley High School here in Albuquerque. Absolutely just lived and breathed un M athletics,
not just football. But he could hold his own in this conversation about global basketball and tell you stories about Ruben Douglas that I've never heard. He went to every game in the pit, huge global fan. He'd show up to women's soccer matches, he'd show up to tennis matches, he would do all of that, and and everybody here wanted it to work out so much, and it just didn't. You know, I don't know if it's entirely any indication that of him as a head coach. He but it wasn't working out.
They were never turned a corner. They weren't really embracing the nil world two years ago when when other teams, you know, when the MTAA started allowing it, and when they jumped on the nil kind of train about you know, just last offseason. It was it was a little too little, too late. I guess, and he wasn't able to recruit at a very high level. And I just you know, everybody here was pulling for him. I don't think his departure from here was a whole lot of people fed
up with Danny. And anyway you would, you would always give you time. He would talk to everybody, media, fans, people, the grocery store and makes himself better available. And he is a good defensive mind, very good defensive mind. So you know, I think he's a good piece. I think he's a really good piece. But a lot of people were pulling for him to make it work out here because you know, he wanted it so bad. Yeah, and real quick. Maybe last question, Nil,
how is it affecting New Mexico? Because we know how the big schools deal with it and how much money they have they have tons. Arizona's kind of like middle of the road maybe as far as we know, but the schools like New Mexico, Colorado State, stuff like that. How is it going? So? New Mexico has a retired New York Brooklyn real estate attorney was well off went to school here in the seventies. A guy named Kurt
Roth who's sort of taking up as his retirement gig. Running the NIL here and New Mexico for two years has sort of been the not sort of. It has been the best NIL collective in the Mountain West. Now there's a jump between the best in the Mountain West and what the Power Conferences NIL money is like. If there's a reason they're recruiting pretty well, now there's a reason there probably unless he decides to stay in the NBA Draft. They're retaining
a six foot nine freshman of the Year and JT. Toppin and when they have the former California Player of the Year Donovan Dent, who could have gone elsewhere to make you know, probably four or five hundred thousand. They're keeping players here and retaining players here because they're ANIL collective. At New Mexico, it's much better, frankly than San Diego States. The UNLV and Boise State have really kind of gained ground a little bit, but New Mexico kind of
set the bar for the for the non Power Conference. I would say NIL collectors around the country, not just in the West, and they're doing really good. They got a lot of money, a lot of local fans are buying into this. It's called the five or five Sports Venture Foundation, and for twenty dollars a month membership, you know, they give them exclusive content, some some Instagram video, some interview stuff like that that these players agree
to do and go do some charitable stuff around town. But they have a whole there's not a whole lot of major individual donors in New Mexico and Albuquerque. But what they have is is fifteen thousand fans to show up to the pit all the time for games. And if you get a good chunk of that paying twenty dollars a month, that adds up quite a bit. So it makes sense their their collective is over a million dollars for men's basketball alone.
Makes sense, makes sense. Good idea. Wow, Okay, now, if that Patino guy can just coach, you'd be all right, I'm telling you, man, If yeah, he can recruit and you can recruit and kind of coaches where we're at, so he can improve the kind of part of that, I think I think they should be pretty good. I do think they're probably gonna be one or two in the in the Mountain West next year. But yeah, the pressure's on. We better you better do
more than just get to the tournament. Right, we had a who's the eighty unis? What's his name? Oh yeah, Edie? And so he was fun. He was good. I said, you know, make sure that the Graham grammar doesn't bully you, you know, stuff like that.
How's he He sounded pretty good. He's good. I think. So he came from he's from Miami and he was a you know, walk on for like a Billy Donovan Florida team basketball wise, way back when, and so he has some athletics roots to him as a player as well, but went kind of grew up and did his progression in the administrative role at LSU and some MESSYC schools, and I think he wants to get back to a big time program. The big thing for him is if he can get football right.
And they made a really good hire in Bronco Mendenhall. If he can get football right, he'll he'll probably be moving on to the next ad job as soon as somebody somebody offers him the gig. But he's been here like six years now too, so it's not like it was just a one to two kind of year deal or he moved on. But he's he's pretty good. He kind of came into a mess. There were a couple actual criminal cases kind of pendings within the athletics department when he got here, in some
financial messes, and he kind of navigated through all that. So they're kind of coming out the other end of all that. Okay, well thanks, yeah, appreciate your time. You know you're gonna be busy today. Get back to work. Yeah, yeah, I'll get appreciated. Thanks, thank you. Jud Jeff Caremer. He was actually named the Sports Rudder of the Year in the country last year. Really, well, let's tell you, let's stories kind of dictate these things. You know that in the story it
was the shooting, the shooting between and the death. He was all over that. So the story makes the stories come to you, and you can you can get awards like that, right right, So I need to dial a great job without him, and him and a cohort worked the cop beat for a long time and your mixico see gout all those things, you know whatever. Okay, so that was good. That was good. At least we got caught up. Yeah, all right, so that was really good. All right, let's put a break. Yeah, I'm trying to see

Sports fourteen. The Hey, welcome back to my on the ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty m Steve, he's Jake got at them with us, saying Juan to finish off the show here on Friday, it's been a good week. We only have sixteen minutes to screw it up. We're capable very much. We have the technology. That's fifteen minutes too much, Uh,
Adam, go ahead and give us what you have. So round two has just started in the NFL Draft. The first pick in the second round was Keon Coleman out of Florida State. It's followed up by Charge the Chargers taking Ladd McConkey from Georgia and Atlanta Washington both just took defensive tackles. In New England took another receiver in Jalen Polk from Washington. Okay, those are those
are pretty good two one two combination, right Washington Polton. Well again, and going back to the whole I'm gonna I'm gonna beat, could continue to beat this dead horse. You know, you know, Jane Daniels had a receiver with their their the pick or something like that, the Lake Nivers number six sick. Okay, so you had that guy and you still wind up in a crap bowl game and then you won the freaking Heisman Trophy. I mean, it's just it just continues to boggle my mind. Then, well
what we do here? I think in that case, I think that you'll agree that it was an East Coast bias totally. And it's always like that step again. You know, when when Toby Gerhardt, Andrew luck And and Christian McCaffrey all should have won a Heisman Trophy and then gave it to an Alabama guy each of those years, especially the McCaffrey he was better than Henry. I agree with you on that an Alabama guy got it because they gave it to the best guy on the best team, so the best guy.
You know, this time they gave it to a good player on a crap team instead of a guy who was in the national championship. I think to your point, I think the first time or one of the first or early times that they actually saw Penis was in the semi final game. Remember, he was fantastic and he couldn't miss, and he was getting pinpoint, and they said who is this guy? And by that time everybody voted exactly exactly. I mean, look, I mean I saw jayde and Daniels enough to
know that Michael Pennix was the way better college quarterback. And I get it, Jayden and Dan you know, the NFL Scotts, they think Jade and Daniels a better quarterback. They drafted him second. Penix was later. You know how much of that had to do with Pennix's age, But if you're telling me who had a better college football season and meant more to their team,
it was Michael Pennix by a lot, by a lot. Yeah, I liked him, and I liked Nicks even more, you know at the time, and I thought Oregon would beat Washington to move on, and it didn't happen. Michael Pennix was better than Caleb Williams last year. Right now, again, you know the NFL. You know, when you're talking about who's going to be the better pro quarterback, Okay, I'll give it to the NFL Scotts say those two guys. But the Heisman Trophy isn't about who's
going to be the better NFL quarterback. The Heisman Trophy is about who was the best player in college football in a given year. And they gave it to that guy. You know, they gave it to Jade Daniels because he played at LSU and not because he was the best. And that Pennix went undefeated going into the title game too, right, like, yeah, no question, no question. He had a better resume overall. Yeah, in
all, in all areas, yeah, across the board. So anyway, Okay, I may, I may let that go, but then I may not. We have twelve minutes. Bone, screw it up, screw it up. Okay, everybody, our buddy Don was on social media, tell me I saw that well yesterday, right, yeah, yeah, let it go, let it go. Okay. And then when the Cardinals they got two guys, right so far, Yeah, they got two guys. They have Harrison, uh for you know, probably one of the better players.
I thought they were going to trade, and there was a lot of discussions they were going to trade that we'll get some more guys as opposed to one really good guy. But I know it sounds like Kyler Murray was like pulling for Marvin Harrison, which very selfishly right, generational type wide receiver. His dad's a Hall of Famer. Yeah, and uh Murray needs to Yeah, guy, I don't have anybody. They lost Hollywood Brown. They traded Rondelle Moore, so that that was a needed position. They needed a lot of
stuff. But you lock up maybe a wide receiver one for ten years maybe, yes, hope. Yeah, I mean, you know, people are you know, I'm saying, well, you know, he could be in the Hall of Fame. And I'm like, dang, I mean, how you know how good? We don't know how good he is, but he's pretty damn good, looks like. And I you know he was he was my number three. He was my number three. Uh, I had him in the third spot in the Heisman vallet you know, so I know I
saw him play enough. You know he was really damn good. Yeah. Hey, just real quick, we'll got a live of minutes. But one of my sponsors, Edmund Marcus. Everyone knows Edmund. He has about three hundred tickets for tonight's Tucson road Runner game because they're game too, right, Yeah, they got to win. So if you guys want to go to the road Runner game, drop by his office twenty seven nineteen North Campbell until five thirty. You'll get some tickets. Take your whole family, he says,
if you like, there's he's got three hundred tickets. Wow, And they need, they needed some peace support. Man. They got beat in the first round. It's a there are one loss from being out of the playoffs, so you know they got they gotta win these next two and they're at home. So you'd like to think that they can do that. But that's tough to lose. The first lose the opener of a and it could
be and it could be the end of the room. Wow, this could be the last time we see him, right, uh you know this season because it looks like they're head into Phoenix. So absolutely absolutely do they play game three or over there? No, all three games are here. All three games are here because they you know, they're they're minor league hockey. They trying to limit the traveler. So the whole three game series is here.
But you know they're down one ztep. Another thing that we missed that we didn't talk for breaking news enough that you would know this, but Ken hockey is the new A d oh. I didn't see that. He saw that he was was between him and uh A Cosgrove, we're both being under consideration. Yeah, so he's he continued to be the baseball I don't, I don't I read the press release didn't say, but I'm sure it's in there somewhere. Congratulations can't hacky me. You know he got that because he
was no Jigs on the show a couple of weeks. Yeah, and what else on our show? Well, I know, yeah, you know, you don't want to talk about I'm not going to bring it up. You brought it up. I'm not breaking I'm not talking about it. Well, the Bucks have taken the lead on on on the Pacers. They were what were they did you say they were down seventeen at the end of the year. Yeah, fifteen seventeen points. Yeah, yeah, they're they're up by
one with nine minutes left, pullly cow. He will remain the baseball coach, according to Javier, who wrote a lot of work. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Well there's kind of like maybe give him pay raise, but you kind of eliminate, you know, a position saves some money. Yeah, give him and he's he studied to be this, you know, administrator. Yeah, I think at his college. Yeah, thanks Xavier for that. Well, good and good good for can't hockey. Congratulations on that.
Look, you know, uh, jer Monica leaves leaves a great program behind. He did a lot of great things. The program is in is in incredible shape with you know, the quality of other programs, you know, whether it's soccer or basketball or baseball or softball or whatever. You know, there's a lot of good things going on over there. And it's like, okay, Ken, it's all yours right, you know, don't screw it up, don't mess it, don't come on out of the ball. And
he's his baseball season is still gonna. I'm going and it looks it looks good. I think we won't talk about the women's softball. You butchered that. No tell you tell you, tell you you tell good and tell the kids. Well, you know, we have kind of this reputation is being the kiss of death. Not everything that we thing is him. We so you know, PA softball has been going through this long winning streak. You know, I kept thinking, would bring him on this. I'm like,
I'm a superstitious guy on that stuff. You don't want to blow the mojo. I said it. You know, I sit in the same seat. I will put my socks on, you know, right whatever when when my team is in a streak. So we waited and wait a wait. Finally got to twenty six twenty six wins. We thought, you know, we've got to get them on, so we do on Monday, on Monday, on Monday, yeah, okay, yeah, and they got swept in a double head on Tuesday, and we do the thing about it, think about
it. We joke, we kind of joked about it, and she was odd. No you know, no, no, no, no, they not only lost, they lost twice. Yeah, so she may never be back, I know. And you know what if I were her, I would never come back or at the beginning of the year, just not to mess with yeah, exactly, all right. Dodger just went up Tuesday for Stephen Casey care no, I don't and Freddie Freeman with an RBI single, okay, do nothing, top of the third against the Blue Jays in Toronto.
I just took a ten second nap right there. An you think you guys want to talk about guys, you're gonna are you gonna be with us next week? Yeah? Okay for another week and that's it. Yeah. I might have a couple of classes. And you were you You were not a COVID guy, right, You came in from somewhere else, you transferred. What are you gonna miss the most that's lee, uh, just the people here, the the environment, I like, I liked it. I
was a big fan of you. It so athletically football, basketball. Was it what you thought it would be when you came here, because I'm sure that was a big reason why you came here. Yeah, No, I definitely like the basketball is a crazy environment. You just know that's that's you of a. That's their basketball. You're gonna rep and rock with that. And then football, just enjoying the progression that fish came in with. Last year I was here, they got better and then this year double digit win
plus a ball game. So yeah, all I know is you better not have been that student, lady f bombs. That was that was you were? You were only that brownie were you? No? No, I don't, I don't. That was an s C right. They were booing Brownie James for whatever reason. I don't. I don't even know. Yeah, yeah, yeah, And the U c l A was not you know, the situation with the spit gate, right, Okay, I'm gonna have to do your evaluation so that in there. This is what you're up against.
One pretty simple, it's pretty simple. He says, he's ready, He's ready he's five ten and ready. Yeah, they start to shrink. One had a good day, then you'll never here. We don't have good days. Sometimes you do. The one thing about the show one I think jail agree and so adam. If it's a good show, it goes by quick. Two hours is nothing, and sometimes we wish we had three hours. And then we say no, we don't want to because people ask us, right, why did you go three number of times? No, then it's
a job. Yeah, we don't want to work. Uh, it's fun, it's fun. The Dodgers are killing him now. They just hit a three run home. No, he's just showing up. It's six. Nothing, just showed Max months. He just hit a three run dong after Freddy Freeman. No, it wasn't Freddy Freeman who knocked in a run. I don't know, but it's it is now six against the Blue Jays who the Dodgers were the Dodgers warmly. It was a minus one twenty two on the
money line. So this is actually a nice little a nice little get here because the Dodge has been getting terrible odds on the money line. Oh that they just showed the replay and that was like he crushed that. He crushed that. Steve, guess what the scores in Indiana and Milwaukee. It's ninety six, ninety five. Nothing happens, yea seven left is what I have. Nothing happens to the point time the Bucks have to win this, right,
it would be nice to steal back home court. Yeah they lost one, Yeah, yeah, absolutely, Phoenix is on tonight tonight, seven seventh year. Yeah right, what's the make of that team? You know, six and a half. I just don't trust them, but I and when I've lost that, it's over. Honestly, it's like you a we talked about it all year after maybe January fifteenth. Do you trust them? You
just trust you had no idea what you were getting. Yeah, yeah, I saw somewhere and I don't want to use the source of this, but uh, one of the websites or one of the Facebook guys is he's hearing hearing, and I use those quotes that that Caleb is thinking about coming back. I heard a report that he'd come back to transfer. It's another school to the school. Yeah, so yeah, who do you believe? Right?
Who do you believe in? And what does it matter? Because it doesn't think matters about above Yeah yeah, yeah yeah, and would break your heart? Would it break your heart? No? Exactly, neither. Go get the next guy, like I always say, just go get the next guy. They have the freshman guy, Tell me who is what his name is? It's coming, Yeah, that's carbon. But the other guy can score too. To Jalen, that's it. That's it. They have people,
when don't they have people? No, that's and that that's and that's what it's become when all these people lose their minds about this guy leaving or that guy leaving. Next there's right there guys out there and they and and they know where they are in fact, and I'll give you this and I'll concede something because we talk about blue blood blah blah blah. We know this is a good program and we know that. And that's beyond. And that's the point where it's just it's a it's a conveyor belt. It is.
And and at all the schools, I mean the other day, what was what school is it? Oh? God, tuy uh No? Was it Louisville who had no players left? Zero? There wasn't a single guy from last year. I don't know if it was lois But there's one of those schools like a Louisville or a Kentucky or somebody that they that the entire roster, all of it, what's going on. It was probably Louisville's gone because
a new coach. Everybody was bad tire roster left and they're starting, I mean, a brand new team from not even like the scrubs weren't even there anymore. Everybody left right right. There was a great tweet from somebody kind of a power he talked about he talked to a good coach, a big
time coach anonymously actually saying that this is going to ruin everything. And it started to ruin everything because you start new rosters every year, payments, all this and it's just a crazy, crazy time that they need to stop this. How they stop this, I don't know, but it can't sustain. And we had Corey on yesterday who explained a lot of things to us. And it's not thinking that eventually two three years they become employees at the very
least, or should be again. Contracts. It sounds like, you know, con when players have to enter into contracts to play and then they have to fulfill those contracts. That's what can stop what's happening right now. The question is does it and what when does that eventually happen? Because I think we're still years away from it, you know, Truse Again, there's some parties that don't want they don't want it. And if I were, absolutely
I don't want it. I don't want it because here's free rain. It's free rain, right, you know, because Joe, you know, Joe blow quarterback and go negotiate a you know, million dollar contract while his center is getting twenty five thousand dollars, right, you know. And so no, I mean correct, I mean, if you're if you're if you're one
of those players, you don't want it. But if you're somebody who's if you're the center, you do because maybe you get the minimum of X, right, you know, and it's and it's more than you would have gotten any of course, any any updates, we've got to go about ninety nine ninety seven the Pacer ninety nine ninety eight, the Pacers lead the Bucks Dodgers up six nothing not that score score. Well, thanks guys for being in.
Hey, thank you, We'll see you around. We'll see you here later, Adam, Thanks a more one more gig for you man next week. All right, thanks for being here, everybody, have a great weekend. See you at the Spring Green Game tomorrow. Go to the v A website, put in the spring code in the in the ticket thing you can answer. Free tickets. So see you Monday.
