This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera and Jagon Zales on Fox Sports fourteen to fifty powered by Nova Insurance Services and Sure Your Most Prized Possessions, Kat c R two SAD and iHeartRadio Station. Hey, good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to Eye on the Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, he's Jagan Zauce. Got our guy Adam in town with us
today and have another intern in Juan. How you doing Juan this year and can't talk he has no money and intern in observing, Yeah, right, observe. We've got a couple of are already this week, first summer the O. This stuff works. One, it's sometimes it's not very pretty, just so you know, sometimes it works and sometimes, in fact, most times it's not very pretty. That's why we have you guys. You guys,
you guys run, make it run smoothly hopefully, right Adam? Yeah, absolutely, And let us know who's who and what team and who's betting two fifty. Hey, let'st the show. And we couldn't wait for breaking news on this one because it's kind of a big news because as Arizona ties to it. But a former U of a player, a pretty good one. Ruben Douglas passed away this week Wednesday. Kind of just made the news moments ago. Moments ago. Jeff Grammer, he used to work here at
at the Citizen, now works for the Albuquerque Journal, put it. Put it up on social media that Ruben Douglas died at forty four. Yeah, not that i'man just a very young man. Yeah, there's no detail in terms of what other than somebody said it was a sudden health issue. He had a he had a precurious career here one year. Let me tell you the circumstances. So he come from he comes came from La a very good player, can score right right. So he comes in with with the guys
and and he has a pretty good first year. His dad, he was one of he had one of those dads that was here a lot to watch him, to sit with louton why isn't my son playing a lot? So so the second year, guess who shows up? Give her to Renas, give her a Renas actually messed with the lineup a little because the Iowa kid who got in the car crash I was opening he you think he very very ballyhooed Iowa kid. He had gotten the car crash and he scared Arena scared
him away too. So this is like two thousand and one is two thousand and two thousand and one because the Arenas was a sophomore in two thousand and one, right, right, So it was the ninety nine and two thousand years. So Reuben decided to go and he loved to shoot, so he went to New Mexico and became the NCAA scoring champion I think his senior year,
right, right. So a heck of a player, a guy who could score, A good guy, A good guy wanted to make it here, but didn't give her to Renas kind of scared a couple of people away. Well, and that happens, you know, it happens more now than he used to, but it happened, right, So you know, guys, because guys can come and go now. But you know he's he's from out the Dina. He played three seasons for New Mexico from two thousand.
A star. He was a star there, who was a star there, played played in Italy but this apparently, according to his Italian team said it was a sudden health problem that was fatal to him a few days ago in Costa Rica, which means, well he was I don't think he was playing already, but here I've just been down there on his brother ramone and formed the team. But nobody's been able to reach the brother since then. But
he was three times All Mountain West. He was the player of the Year in two thousand and three, as Steve said, scoring champ n CUA A scoring champ in two thousand and three. So a good basketball player was making a living at it, and then suddenly he is gone, right right right, no question. I had guessed when he said he died what I give you forty and happened so fast. I mean, this is twenty four years ago. Now, Well, like you said, yeah, unbelievable. Maybe
we'll talk more. Maybe get a call or two from somebody, from somebody who, yeah, you know who did well. Jason Gardner would have known. So maybe I'll text him real quick, maybe you can call him. So let's talk real quick and we'll talk more about that later. Who's our guest? All right, we have a guest, Brian Peterson Asydesert Swarm dot com. Uh, we'll get Brian to fill us in on what we can expect to see at the spring game tomorrow and what he's seen so far.
We've had some you know, different guys come in and talk about what they're seeing. Nothing extraordinary, right, Uh. We you know, we got the team act injury the other day. Uh, but we really don't know what it is, right, Legs reached an ankle or something because he's in a boot in a boot, so they haven't really filled us in on what
that might be. I'm sure somebody will ask after the after the after the spring game tomorrow, h Bran Brandon Hask come out and said that they're gonna be very careful about making sure that they don't you know, they got to come out of as healthy. It's very important that they do. We get
that. My my comment on that was, well, then if you're gonna have a spring game, but you're not gonna play your guys and don't charge people to come to the spring game because it's a five bucks or ten bucks, ten bucks, ten bucks, Well, the guys, we didn't there's something we didn't talk about this week when we we we heard mister click and Uhberta Love is they just so proper About four thousand tickets for right that's making
available. I don't know how people get their hands on them, right, Yeah, they made a public public early yesterday, but I'm not sure. Yeah, you know, and if they want a crowd ticket, look and there, they aren't gonna there. I can't remember the last time there were four thousand people at the spring game, right, So so it's probably plenty. If you don't want to pay for a ticket, then you you don't need to, uh, probably if you go and figure out where you can
get these tickets. But you know, it's coming up tomorrow. You know, Steve and I haven't able to go to any of the practices because of because they practiced during our show. So it'll be the first time, you know, we get an in person look at them. So I'm interested to see what that's gonna look like. Yeah, no, it's gonna be it's gonna be a little no one, it's got I think it's gonna be the weather, it's gonna be nice. Yeah, tomorrow, Terreneur. Now it's
at six o'clock. You know, we'll get there at six o'clock. See what happens. Yeah, I don't think we're gonna see much much like you said, or even much difference than we saw last year in terms of what they're doing scheme schematically and all that, right, and what we were able to write about. Yeah, well, and you know people say that, you know, the one the one area where the offense looks different. There's
a lot of motion in the offense. Guys moving around, you know, players going in motion, a lot of that kind of stuff, a lot of movement whatever that means in terms of, you know, what it does for what they do. But you know, we'll see. But I think you're you're right, you're well, and they're saying defensively, they're more aggressive, you know, they're blitzing more. That the line isn't just trying to hold ground, they're actually trying to penetrate and rush. And so we'll just
see what all that looks like. But it's it's always hard to tell what you're seeing when you see sure active situation like this, sure and it's it's what is it? It's it's April. Nothing happens till some football. Yeah, that's all I have. I'll break up the other one, like you know what, I don't want to talk about the other. So we'll talk you about that later, I don't, I know, I have it in you. You'll talk no, no, because we already mentioned that guy kid.
Well, maybe there's something away from him. Okay, okay, So what else the draft last night? You might have some stuff from maybe not, but it was it was, it was. I watched some of it. It was kind of interesting. And when I came in before the show, you right away the first conversation we had was Michael Panix, Michael Panis and he got drafted high way higher. I mean, there was a lot of talk that he might not even go in the first round, and then
he goes eight, number eight, He goes eight to a team. But then he goes to a team, the Falcons, who just spent a fortune on the quarterback they got Kirk Cousins, gave one hundred million dollar contract, a three year contract, and it's like, okay, is this you know? And then you were you're here on social media? Is that they didn't really tell him what they were going to do. They kind of just did it. You mean Cousins Cousins. Yeah, right, I saw this.
I saw that. I was did they say why they did it? Uh? Watching Dan Patrick this morning, he said he had a source who told him that. The belief was that, you know, Panis will sit for a couple of years. You know, by the time the kirk Cousins contract runs out, he's thirty nine years old. He's thirty six now, so they're saying that, you know, maybe after a year two or you know, they'll give him a chance to that. They didn't want to pass on
him because he's going to be really good. Sure, the Falcons gave him. There's an opt out where they can get out of the contract after two years. Yeahs. Yeah, and they thoughts being there at eight they won't get another opportunity right like that if they wanted to get their quarterback. Now, give him a couple of years to get ready, and then when kirk Cousins gets much older, they you know, they move on. That makes sense. But let me go here with you guys. So we've seen this
before with Brett Favre. We've seen this with with Rogers and Rodgers. Right, what's the what's there ego so fragile that they worry about this when they're the best guy on the team and and they're gonna be the starter no matter what, Why would you even worry about it? Okay, cool, I have an apprentice. I can teach him how to be me or whatever. And but everybody makes some funny big how many? How many quarterbacks? So have we seen? You know? The star quarterback is. I don't want
to be anybody's mentors. I just want to play. What the hell you're getting paid one hundred and eighty million to do this? Woe is me? Yeah, just do it, Just do it? So, I mean, this threw me back to the movie Draft Day. Do you just see the movie Draft Day? The whole thing with the quarterback. He was bo Callahan, bo Callahan who was going to be the you know, he was heismo Trophy when the consensus number one pick, and and and have you seen the
movie? No, man, just go on with the start. You're gonna spoil it for to what Jennifer Garner alone, it's worth it watching them. Okay, okay, but the plot, one of the subplots of the of the well not the main plot of the of the movie, is that you've got this quarterback sitting there, Kevin Costner, who's the GM. It's the Cleveland Browns makes a deal for the number one pick. They don't really need a quarterback they've got a pretty good quarterback, but they don't need one.
But he made he made the deal, and then the existing quarterback loses his mind trashes Kevin Cosker's office. What years twenty fourteen, So this happened before, right after the Brett Favre, well after, way after the Brett Farr thing. Yeah, and that way after away before the Rogers. So this whole movie takes place on draft day, so it's from the morning when Kevin Costner makes his deal and then you know, well, I won't I want uhpoil it. I won't spoil it. Somebody else might be listening. There's
twenty years old. The gist of the movie is though, that there's this quarterback and this the existing quarterback loses his mind because he thinks they're gonna draft this, you know, this stud quarterback. And then I won't tell you who goes on after that, but it's kind of like, Okay, you got the star quarterback. He's really good, but you're going to go get another quarterback and all the little things that go with that. Yeah, Okay,
I guess it's agreement. I mean, you remember Brett Favre didn't didn't want to you know, what And then who's the other one the Ryan Tannehill who said I'm not you know, I'm not here to be somebody's men part. That's another one. You know. That was another guy that's most recently. Yeah, that was that was more recent. So you know, who
knows. But you know, it doesn't make it makes I think it's one of the big issues with it though, is that Michael Pennix is already I think twenty six years old, but I think he's twenty four, and he'll be twenty six twenty six when he gets is he yes, Yeah, you're just saying because then then Panix will have to suffer the faith of having somebody younger come in and blah blah blah. Is it it's called isn't the okay? What is the lion king about? That everybody has a successor? Yeah,
isn't it? Actually he's twenty two, he'll be twenty four in a week. Jay, this is like this place. Eventually you and I are be too old for this job and these two kids will come in and take our job. It's just the way, you know. But the thing is Steve Quarterbacks and this is the conversation we had with with Pat Finley, you know, weeks ago, not when it was on yesterday or day before. You say that. You know, a quarterback, when you draft a quarterback,
you bring him in. They're twenty one, twenty two years old. Then they take a couple of years and now they're only twenty four. They're basically losing two years, you know, by you know, with Michael Panix, and let's say, okay, he plays in. He's nice, He's twenty six years old. In a couple of years, he's thirty. O Kelly's old. So how old cousins? Thirty four, thirty six? Well he's he could be fragile too, and he's been he's coming off all right,
So there's your insurance. I mean, I don't think I have to explain. If I'm the boss, I have to explain why he did. Somebody who did make the comment though that Arthur Blank is what was Arthur Blank thinking? And then somebody said, well, Arthur Blank might not even be alive by the time Pennis plays, right. I mean, I thought that was a little cheap, yeah, but maybe he so I repeated it, and I'm the jerk? Was I'm the jerk? Okay? Well about yeah,
Okay, remember that guy. Remember I'm happy for Michael Panis, Okay, because because he really he got he got entirely shafted on the Heisman Trophy, just totally. And then I've made you know, I've made the point.
I've made it inhering to everybody else who I've who, I've gone off on this that if Michael Pennix was the LSU quarterback and Jade and Daniels was the Washing quarterback, Michael Penix would have won the trophied because it was all about the fact that Jade and Daniels would It was at LSU, not about the fact that he was a better quarterback than Michael pan And numbers be be damned right, numbers. And you know what my my surprise pick was Bonnicks.
And you know how much I liked ten before before the PAC twelve finished, because I really liked in Oregon and he finished, he finished tenth, number ten, number twelve. Well, okay, you're asking me how lot that's how much I watched when all the when all six quarterbacks were gone on they said, okay, that's what I was interested in seeing. I should have kept watching to see. You know, when Jordan Morgan got drafted, which which he did, which is good for him as well, a couple
of spots higher than projecting he was hit projected. Yeah, and so he's gone on to good for him, just one of the few from the two cents. And now comes the waiting game for all the guys whom now who just don't know right, who just don't know you're going to get drafted or not. All these guys who got drafted in the first round, they all knew they were going to get drafted at some point, you know. Yes, some of them were word, I'm not going to go in the first
or second round or whatever. But all the first round picks knew they were getting drafted. Now you can start going to guys who I don't know. You know, say a guy who's projected in the second round thinks I could fall to the fourth, fourth or fifth round. So that'll be interesting. Okay, So let's get out of here and get ahold of Brian all right, and we'll talk to some spring game we can expect to see to borrow. All right, we'll be right back. The window depot has everything you

Down the phone. We have Brian Peterson from Hazy Desert Swarm dot
com. Brian, how you doing, I'm great? Thanks you to be back. Sure, sure are you loosening up for tomorrow's game? And you're you're not injured? Right, You're gonna play? Uh? I am day to day? Have you Have you had any little procedures? Yes, that's part of getting older. And yeah, that's what my doctor recommends. This is it not that he'd like to discuss on the radio? Okay, so
what do you think we're going to see tomorrow? I think Jay's already disheartened that it's just going to be as simple simple scrimmage or a simple practice. Yeah. I mean we we got spoiled. I think these last three years under Jetfish, where the Spring game became this massive spectacle with a lot of uh all around, and then I mean it kind of mass the fact that
it was just a boring game that really had no substance to it. This there's there's no kind of hiding that that this is just hey, come watch us practice and it'll be on TV and nothing really matters and nothing really counts and a lot of people are going to play, but hey, let's all feel good about team going into summer. Well, okay, so I mean it is it is what it is, But from from what you've seen at practice. You know, are you surprised by anything? Does it all look
kind of like it always looks? Well? What do you what have you seen and what should we be looking for tomorrow? Who should we keep an eye on. I guess yeah, I mean I think it's it's gone the way it expected. I mean, you've got a new coaching staff, you have a lot of the same players, so you kind of want to see how these coaches are using the existing talent and and veterans and experience and whatnot.
Because the last time we had a situation like this where a coach took over a team with with returning talent, there was a lot of mismanagement and trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, if you will. And I don't think that that's been the case here. Where as much as Brent Brennan and his offensive staff are bringing over stuff from San Jose, they're not trying to make Arizona play San Jose's offense. They're trying to see how
Arizona their offense can sit with the players that Arizona has there. And the defensive side is more like what can dwayna Quina do to build off of what Johnny Manson had done with maybe some extra layers of aggression that have been mentioned by some of the coaches. So when there is scrimmage part, it'll be
fun to see how this kind of looks like. If anyone who hasn't been out to a practice throughout the spring, they may be surprised to see that there's a lot of tight ends on the field, that there's going to be a lot of times where there's two on the field, and that doesn't necessarily just mean a run play, which you didn't see a lot last here.
And then on the defensive side, I think you're going to see more blitzing than you had seen from Manson, more like Don Brown in the first year under Jedfish And so those are kind of some of the things that I would be looking for. So did anybody impress you in the first fourteen practices, because you know, you go when you see him, So did you did anything get highlighted? I was mostly looking at some of the newer guys, like a Tray Myth, who is one of the five or so guys that
came over from San Jose. He's a defensive end. He's kind of in that Taylor Upshaw Mold and he'll be starting right there on the defensive line on the edge. Same with Chuba Mai, the big transfer on the interior from UC Davis. They really like him and he could take up a lot of space. That's the area that I'm most concerned about is the defensive line,
since they lost so many players from that. I I was also impressed just kind of with how the overall running back rotation worked and how how good speedy Luke looked as maybe not the primary back, but he's the guy that has the most experienced here at Arizona with Arizona, and that this is his opportunity to kind of step up. And uh he's small, he's very fast, and and and I think he can be very effective if you used the right
way. So, you know, when you when you were talking about the line and whatnot, you know, my mind you know goes to the you know, to the linebackers. You know Jacob Manu, who who had such a you know, a big role last year. Uh, you know those kinds of guys. Is it is that going to be the defense last year
seemed to rely so much on those guys. What you know is that are we're talking the same kind of thing this year, or as you say, are we going to see them being you know, much more aggressive justin Flow coming in and you know, having more of an impact than maybe we saw last year some of those guys. Yeah, Flow is still a wild card,
like how they're going to end up using him. Danny Gonzalez, the linebacker's coach, spoke yesterday and mentioned a lot about trying to be real simple with what they want from him so that he isn't asked to do too much
and kind of find a specific thing. Justin Spears from the Star has kind of joked that they a couple of times that they just need to make him almost like a Bobby Bouchet from the Water Boy, where he's just somebody who's rushing the passer and that's all he needs focus on and put all that energy into that. Maybe that's something they'll use with that. I know that Danny really really loves Jacob Manu. He referred to him as the best linebacker in
the Big twelve multiple times yesterday. And he's going to be the guy on the defense that is going to be wearing the communication with the coaches in his helmet. So he's going to be the quarterback out there on defense, but I think when you also have a very veteran secondary, they're going to be
heavily reliant on that. With this Star's position and just in general, all the defensive backs that have returned, I think they're going to be asked to do a lot, and while this defensive line figures itself out, it's going to put that pressure on the back seven or eight to do more. Alongly, you're talking about the players, what did you find out about Brennan?
If anything? I mean, he's very laid back and like he's just he's more concerned with coaching football and knowing his players than trying to present any sort of an outward image to get people interested in the program. Now, he benefits from the fact that Jetfish did a great job of getting people to pay attention to Arizona with all of the things he did, for better or worse
during his three years, so that people were paying attention. So he doesn't have to try to be like, hey, watch what we're doing and try to do things that get people to notice. He's able to just kind of focus on this and I think that he's worked a lot. Him and his staff on just trying to have relationship with these players. That Danni Gonzalez even mentioned this yesterday that the spring was kind of an audition for the coaches to
the players. That these players who all decided to stick around after Fish left, they didn't really do it because of this new coaching staff. They did it because of the brotherhood and the connections they had. But they still need to trust the coaching staff, and so I think Brennan and his staff have really tried to make the players feel like they matter to them and that not have second thoughts and lead after the spring, like you're seeing across college football,
guys that from January to April their mind change. Well to your point, you know, Jeded had to come in and sell the program because nobody really you know, had gotten so bad that you know, there are twenty five thousand people at the game, so that yeah, I mean Brennan, you know, he yeah, he gets the benefit of that. He doesn't have to do that. They'll get forty forty five thousand at their games now because they were good, right, they were good last year. People expect
him to be good again this year. So yeah, I mean it makes sense that he would say, okay, we just got to coach these guys now and keep you know, you keep winning, people keep coming and that'll be fine and you don't have to, you know, do all the extra stuff that the jedfish doesn't. And I like you give him total credit for having done that. He really brought the program, you know, back to a point for people in this town. Gave a crap about it, but
now now not becomes again goes back to being about winning games. So get back to the tight end. If Brent wins, that's really all that's gonna matter. With Jed. He had to give people a reason to stick around while they got to where they could win, right, And who knows what it would have been this season if there hadn't been all those changes. But Brennan is more a matter of there's a little bit of a hey, don't
think that it's all gone because of these changes. But also so just just wait and watch and you'll see that we're going to put a good product. Is kind of the way that they're doing it, rather than I have to do all these bells and whistles to get you just to look at us. Yeah, exactly, let's go back to the tight ends real quick. I was gonna ask about KEYM Burnett, is he sort of? Is he the main guy? Or do they said they have a bunch of tight ends?
How many? How many are they playing? And who are they? Well? Kim Burnett and Roberto Miranda, the kid from Germany who's been here for gosh, I think five years or so, are probably going to be if they if they start to it would be those two. And it as far as who would be the one that would get the most touches in a in a passing situation, you would have to think it would be Burnett, considering that the pedigree that he came in here with with his past catching skills.
But Miranda, from what I've understood and what I've seen, he has shown a nice knack in that area as well. Beyond that, you have Tyler Powell, who has been here for two years. You have the freshman Dylan Tapley, who could be involved in that. They just added a kid from San Jose, sam Olsen, who was over with Brennan and had some touchdowns
this past year that position. I believe he said they had an all conference or all Conference honorable mentioned tight end almost every year he was at San Jose. So that's a position that's going to matter in not just being a guy that blocks. I mean, you were even seeing times where they'd have two tight ends and then one of them would go in motion and line up in
the backfield to serve almost as a fullback. And they've mentioned the tight ends coach has mentioned that you want to be able to run and pass out of that formation because then defenses can't just be like, Okay, there's two tight ends. This is a rough In addition to the Brennan stuff, what did you what's your impressions of the assistance too, because last year, in the last couple of years, we kind of became close to the assistance. Yea.
The group that Brennan has brought in the offense is with the exception of Bobby Wade and Dino babers At, like the O line coach and the tight ends coach and the runnings backs coach are guys that he brought over from San Jose and they kind of fit the same with him where they they're just you know, they're they're focused on trying to improve these guys and not be into, you know, do anything sort of flashy. Bobby Wade looks like a
rising star in this game. This is his first full time coaching position.
He was an analyst at ASU. He's he's got great insight because he's played the game both at the college and pro level, and seems to have a really good connection with all these receivers who have the same kind of goals as him and Dino Babers being a guy who had been around it's Dino probably gave me maybe the weirdest vibe early on in that he's been around for so long and he's a guy who's just been a head coach for like seven years.
And he he said something early on in the spring where he's like he wants to help get Brennan to his next contract, which struck me as kind of a weird thing that like he's really looking at this as a way to try to help somebody that he knew from the past. I don't know how long he'll be around here. I can't see this being like something he would want
to do for ten years. I think he would probably want to be a head coach again, but he as long as he doesn't, you know, try to turn Noah Fafida and t mac and all these guys into a certain type of offense that they that they're not used to. I think everything should be fine on that. On the defensive side, having Duyna Kina be the defensive coordinator, it's just taking all that energy he showed last year and now putting it around everybody. Danny Gonzalez is a hoot as the linebackers coach.
That man has so much energy. Another guy who used to be a head coach, but seems like he's very thankful to be given this opportunity after New Mexico decided that they were going to move on from him after a few years, and he's kind of looking at this as my chance to start over and do something great. And all the other guys. The defensive line coach he came over from from San Jose and the guys they've gotten the dB area.
Everyone seems like they're they're really connecting well with these players. So even though it's been only three months that they've known each other or I've gotten to know each other, I feel like they they're enjoying their time with each other. So Ryan, that was a very long We went fast along with his football baseball. You've covered some teams before. We still don't know how good this
team is, even though it's good. So tell me. They look really good right now, but didn't look good at the beginning of the year. What do we have Early in the season, when they were playing a lot of really good teams in the non conference and losing but losing close, they looked like a team that was young and still hadn't figured out how they were going to do this. Now over gosh, the past month, they've gone fifteen and one. They're only lost by one on the road at Grand Canyon,
which is a good team. They've looked like they're completely unbeatable. They haven't played the best teams during that stretch. But the fact is they're just winning all of these games, and now all these young hitters are starting to find their roles. The pitching has been great the entire season. They've got one of the best eras and some of the best pitching numbers in the country.
And now they suddenly find themselves not just in first place in the Pac twelve, but two games ahead of everybody else with four weeks ago, and they're even projected to be hosting an NCAA regional by at least one outlet. It seems like it came out of nowhere, but you could kind of see the fruits of this or the potential of this early on when they were playing close against good teams. This is sort of a detailed question, but I've
seen Clark Candiotti pitch a couple of times. I saw I went to their Friday night game last week. Is who's the best? Is Clark Ken? Yet it looks like the best picture to me? Is he or and he's just a Saturday guy? Or is there Friday Night starter? I can't I couldn't even tell you his name. Is he? You know? Jackson Jackson Kent the Friday guys. He's the best pro prospect of the three because he's
a third year sophomore. He'll probably get drafted and probably signed. The other two are seniors who are out of eligibility, who are really good college pitchers. I think that Candiotti has a shot because he's shown a lot this year. Whereas Cam Walky, the Sunday guy. Someone might give him a chance as like a rookie free agent kind of thing, but you don't have that
leverage. Jackson Kent, by being a leftie who has a very good fastball, an excellent change up, he's been able to dominate, and posting a sub three r A three e r A on Friday nights and college baseball when they're using metal bats is really really something to be set for what he's done. Yeah, I'm a little parts of the Candy Yatti because his dad, his dad was a Dodger, so that's all that matters. Yeah, I'm tired of hearing Dodgers, so we better say you good do that bye,

Steve Rivera and Jacin Salas they have their eye on the ball on Tucson Sports stay shat Fox Sports fourteen fifty. Hey, welcome back to Wyning the ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, he's Jacob's all Scott Adam with us today and one who may be with us for the summer. We did you try? We did, and we didn't dress up. We don't do that here once, So don't mind Presa with this gear. Here's one because it's not a we. Though it's not a we. Yeah
once, you're gonna be a bun biased. Although if you're a Dodger, he's he's. I don't even say we with the Dodgers. I know. I don't say we on anything. I mean, I slip once in a while, but mostly I'm not, you know, he says, we've when he's talking about Yeah, yeah, I say we He's okay, he's not official yet, not got my you've identified yourself as you know, I'm I'm a fan of the that I am, but I still but you know what, Steve, you know, you know when I really is is a true
thing. I pretty much stopped saying we about we Arizona when I mean when I covered the teams, right, and then it's kind of I never came back like once in a while it you know, I will, but for the most part in the conversation, like when I go to my Wednesday lunch with these guys that are we this, we that, we this, we that, and I'm like you you and who you know? You know and and I kind of don't. It's it's it's just a thing. Yeah, Okay. It feels uncomfortable for me to say that, do we Yeah,
partly because we I'm not on the field. I'm not one of those guys, right, Like my son says, we about the forty nine ers all the time, We this and we that. Okay, I mean I don't I don't, you know, criticize anybody for it. I'm just saying I don't for the most part. Okay, well we will move on. Said we had ten minutes. Anybody want to call, please do five to zero four one six seventy four four zero. We'd like to hear from you. I try to reach out to to Ruben Ruben two. I'm sorry to know
to Jason Gardner. See, I went through Nate and I asked Jason directly because he was a former teammate of his back in two thousand. Yeah, and I haven't heard back. I doubt if I'll hear back from him, but we'll also get We also reached out to Jeff Grammar, who was working the story at New Mexicano. Uh and just because just to talk about how he was like a in New Mexico. If you're that guy, you don't
have to pay for air big time, you're a big dude. Yeah, and he was that guy back back in the day, especially when you're that good. So we'll talk to him about this year and ask him what the hell Mexicano could have beaten Clemson and the trajectory for Arizona would have been a little bit better had they beat Clemson. Did you see also too, I don't want. I don't think you'll have this. Clemson's team is is gone and it's like decimated. Right, some more people have jumped so like three
war to day or whatever, and some guys already graduated. So that team you saw, well every team is decimated, yeah, pretty much. Yeah, so any starter start back Caleb Love is maybe they don't have. If Caleb Love comes back, you would be the starter back. It's a whole new team and it's no different from anybody else right there. Yeah, okay, all you people who are losing your minds over there? Right? I saw Patricia who does she's a big fan, she's a friend of mine.
She's projecting lineups and she's doing all this and she's like the rest of them, it's only April. What are you doing? Hey, they're they're they're projected to be eighth in the country. Right, you're the start? Yeah, who's the we? We? Who's who's even gonna be on the dang team? Right? Did you go to games Adham for football? No? Basketball? Yeah? I assume that's gonna be your your most miss thing that you're not gonna be gone probably right? And one I'm sure went two games
too. So you'll have one more year of we'll see what they have next year. Yeah, it's anybody's guess. Sure, sure, I mean, I mean, look, they've got some players that you think, you know, can be a good, solid core of tream. So let me let me give you this test, because I want to write something about the basketball situation. I'm gonna give you the chance. Well, if you're the columnist right now today, what are you gonna write? What would you write about
the basketball team? Yes? I right, everybody, calm down, Yes, that's exactly You have the other story. There's no there is no other story. Just just calm down, wait it out, believe. Let Tommy put his team together and then you can say whatever you want. But even then you still don't know. I mean, how much did we know about that team at the beginning of the year. Who wasn't stunned when they went to beat Duke, right, because you thought that all these new guys,
Yeah they umar they had they had they had Palla Larson. But you know, Keisha Johnson had been in the final four, hed been in the final four count and Boso had been pretty good, but he didn't start, you know, his freshman year for the most part, what did we know? Well, this time last year, what do we know? We knew that
we know people were saying Tommy cam do his job. Yeah, Tommy sucked at his job, right, yes, and he should be he should be, he should be fired to get after all those wins and all that, and you said, god, relax, relax. I think some of those guys went away. Yeah, as they should just go away. Okay, just go away? Okay? Uh? Anything else? We have a lot of breaking news, yeah, pretty much. I have one that you guys haven't heard yet, which is kind of shocking to me. But we'll go
there when we go there. Okay, Uh what else? Tickets? I'm sure many are available for tomorrow, right you know what a favorite I'll figure out trying to figure out how you get how you get your hands on the loan on the spring, it'll be there'll be a story out there because I saw it on on Tucson dot com about where those some of those tickets are
going. I think it's mostly for kids. I could be wrong, but there's gonna be a lot of tickets available to go see even if you're there for a half, which most most of the time that's what they was able to do. Well, what one good thing is that is that you know it's not in the sun. You know, it's six o'clock, it should be should be really and still breezy and like it is today. Yeah,
I'm still I'm still looking this up but not finding it. But you know, if you look, if you're curious, you just go see, you know, see what it looks like. Now, okay, now we will not he's not in They reported he had quote unquote a little procedure, but they just said on his leg. They didn't even tell us is it an ankle? Is it a well apparent? Apparently? Apparently Brennan doesn't talk about injuries. But I think that he had to speak a little about there's some
because it was very obvious. When your star players in a boot. You gotta figure out what am I going to say? Yeah? So, and that's what he said yesterday. It was that's all you know, that's all we know. I'm not finding anything about how to get your hands on those Did you go to Sun dot com now Son dot com? Something on there, one of those panels that says, silly me, I went to the U of a website. No, No, that that's the last place you go. That's the last place you go. You said you saw that they
got to provost there, they got to provost. I guess the understudy, the second second man in command. I didn't know that they need to get a first thing command. Well not, yeah, they're not. Yeah, Bobby Robinson is not ready to go. So they got the second guy. And I guess there's already protests about the second guy. Can we all get along? Can we just get somebody a shot? I mean, what are
they upset about? Well, apparently he didn't. He didn't test well with the with the power, with the faculty members that he spoke to about one hundred and something, so he was in the warm and fuzzy guy. What did they just? Never mind? They may be some of your friends. So you're gonna be quiet. I'm not gonna go. I'm not gonna go. I'm not gonna do that. Hey, Evan, I'm the grumpy guy. Remember this. Here's the here's the never mind. I'm not talking to
you the rest of them. Okay, one more chance, five to two O four, one sixty. I hope you get a chance to give us a call. I know we're gonna have breaking news, so you can call in that section two, and then we're gonna I'm still trying to get ahold of Jeff Grammar, so maybe he has a few minutes to talk about the Reuben Douglas thing. And then again at the end of the first second hour, we'll have open lines, uh to talk about anything else about the draft
last night? Or or do you think anything will happen in the second round with anybody from you a going second? Well, second and third rounds are today? Has that even started? No? Four or five? I think probably, you know, as we talked yesterday, I think McLaughlin, Tanner, McLoughlin, that tight end. But I don't know where he's projected. I didn't really I didn't see any Monk drafts beyond the first round, so
I don't know if he's projected to go. You know, I think most of them are probably third day guys, you know, uh, the you know, fourth through seventh rounds. But I think we'll see all three of those other guys draft because you were Jlan was shaking his head, what do you think? Just god, yeah, I think McLachlan today. Okay, okay, we remember this stuff, so we'll give you grief next time we see it. If people people are ready to forget what I didn't remember him,
say that we remember. We don't remember ourselves what we say, but we will remember your kids say this, what about you, Adam for Tanner, for an anybody. I mean, I'm I'm still a little disappointed that the Chiefs got Exavier Worthy last night. I mean, he's the fastest guy in the draft. I saw that four point your little unhappy that he fell all the way to the chief and Buffalo U traded up out of the draft,
especially training your enemy. He's already challenging Hill for a race, right, Yeah, he has the all time record on the four point two. It's what he weighs like a buck, seventy buck, fifteen sixty five. I was sixty five. I wanted to save and say yesterday the ball only weighs thirteen ounces. But he ca'll be okay. You know, I was watching the you know, the ESPN thing with with with Nick Saban. I thought he was really good. Yea, he is. You know, he
does have a person. I haven't heard much much in terms of what people thought of Bill Belichick. Uh was he on on the other cho was on NFL Network, right network. Yeah, he was on with with Rich Eyesen and those guys. But you know, Saban was incredibly well spoken. He had a lot of really good analysis. You know, you know what I what I felt like, And I'm gonna have to get over the fact that I hated him so much at Alabama because of his his obnoxiousness and his I'm
better than everybody kind of because he was well he was. I know he was, but I'm saying, but you know what I'm saying, But I liked him as an analyst because he was good. He was he was putting things in a way that my brain could understand. When you know, they would be showing a clip of a guy and he's telling them what this guy is doing, I'm like, oh, you know, I just I felt like I learned a lot about what a coach sees and what we don't see.
He was talking about and strength and how guy. You know, they're like, he did a thing. There was attack, a right tackle, offensive time of the gut that got drafted. So then they were showing clips again he was showing how he was talking about leverage and staying in front of the guy and you know, all these things, and I'm like, Okay, I under I kind of felt like I understood that technique a whole lot
more. And I'm looking for having him on game day. Jay, if you were getting paid eleven million dollars here today, I would expect a lot of that stuff every day. But there are coaches that go on and try and do this and they suck. You know, they're they're not they're not very heat. And this is the first time he's on this kind of you know, for this long and then you're writing this kind of and and he
was really good. Yeah, no, he is gonna be good. The Belichick thing is gonna be interesting because he said two words in press commentary, yes, no, whatever, but you know they have personalities otherwise, all right, let's hit our break top of the hour. Adam's coming back with breaking news. In the meantime, I'm gonna figure out how you get your hands on those, uh those spring game tickets, So stick around.
