Hi, and welcome to the Exam Room Nutrition podcast. I'm your host, Colleen Sloan. I'm a registered dietician and pediatric pa. I wanted to take this time and give you an overview of our goals and purpose behind the Exam Room Nutrition podcast.
I've worked many years in outpatient pediatric medicine, and I realized that there's a huge gap between what we as clinicians know and how we communicate that with our patients, especially when it comes to sensitive information like nutrition and weight management. It became apparent that sometimes our recommendations can come off as vague, judgmental, or altogether unhelpful, and sometimes patients poses some challenging questions that we might not be equipped to answer.
So wouldn't you like to navigate complex nutrition conversations with ease? Well, that's why I created exam room nutrition. we'll bring you engaging interviews with leading experts in the field of nutrition, communication and medicine. You'll gain valuable insights and practical tips that you can incorporate into your busy clinic day. Each episode will be about 20 to 30 minutes long, so you can listen in on your commute to or home from work or while you're making dinner.
The goal for each episode is for the expert to answer the question, what would you say if your parent or patient asks you? My child is so picky. What do I do? Or, I heard that a diet can improve my A D H ADHD symptoms. What should I eat? Or I just had a cardiac event. Now what do I do? Or the school told me that my teenager is fat. What do I do? We'll have thought-provoking discussions that tackle these challenging topics and so much more.
Our experts will provide you with actionable tips and advice that you can relay to your patients, So I know what you're thinking. This sounds great, Colleen, but my clinic day is already packed. There's no way that I can add anything more into my visits, guys. I'm in trenches with you. I totally understand, but that's why I created this podcast. Because I realize that unless you're a registered dietician, you sometimes dunno what to say and take it from me.
I am a registered dietician and I sometimes don't remember what to say. So each episode is gonna give you a handful of helpful solutions that you can offer to your patients. So the next time your patient throws you a curve ball nutrition question, you'll be ready. Educating patients can be hard, but exam room nutrition is here to equip you with the language and skills so that you can provide nutrition education with compassion and confidence. So let's shape a healthier future together.
One exam room at a time.
