It's called taking the "path of least resistance." You make an intentional decision to go for that course of action which avoids confrontation, discomfort of any kind, or personal tension. You say to yourself, "This is the easiest way to keep moving forward" even when that "way" is not the best or beneficial way. Don't rock the boat. Let sleeping dogs lie. Easier is better right? That may be true in other dimensions of life but not in your journey with and to God. In fact, Jesus has willful suffering and voluntary sacrifice in his forecast for our journey to God. This is the road of commitment to Christ that very few men - and perhaps nobody in the moment - will be traveling with you. They will choose the path of least resistance and, in choosing it, will deny Christ, disguise the truth, and deceive themselves. God's man has learned, by contrast, that the narrow road he is asked to travel by God leads to spiritual integrity, sure blessing, and less regret in the end. God says easier isn't always better but godliness - while costly at times - will always result in blessing. So what will it be? The path of least resistance or the path of maximum obedience? Only one path, Jesus says, leads to life.
