Welcome to Through the Thorns. Today's rosary meditation will be the sorrowful mystery of Jesus's caring of the cross in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy spirit. Amen. Take a deep breath and center yourself in prayer. Picture a dusty road stretching before you. The sun beats down and the air is thick with heat and the noise of the crowd. You are pressed up shoulder to shoulder against all the people, against the people that surround you.

But you work your way through the crowd, trying to get a view of Jesus. You reach the front of the crowd and you see Jesus, bruised and bloodied, carrying the heavy wooden cross on his shoulders. You watch as he stumbles under the weight of the cross, the wood digging into his torn flesh. Each step is labored and you can see the sweat and blood dripping from his face. You notice a group of women who are walking alongside him.

You move closer to the group and you really begin to feel the weight of the moment. You hear the crowd shouting behind you, some mocking, others crying, and suddenly Jesus falls to the ground. The cross crushes him and he struggles to rise. His eyes lift and they meet yours. He looks at you. With such love and such determination, you ask the woman next to you, if you can use a handkerchief or a cloth and she hands one to you.

So you approach Jesus and dab his face, cleaning it of the sweat and the blood. What do you feel as you see him like this? What do you want to say to him? Simon of Cyrene is pulled from the crowd to help Jesus carry the cross. Imagine standing beside them he comes to help the Lord, lifts up the cross, and they begin walking again. You walk beside them. What is it like to be this close to him in his suffering? Let us pray.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell, and on the third day, he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. For the intentions of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, and all the priests. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. For an increase in faith, hope, and love. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
