Welcome to Through the Thorns. Today's rosary meditation will be the Sorrowful Mystery of Jesus Scourging at the Pillar. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. Take a moment to center yourself in prayer. Close your eyes and take a deep breath, inhaling, exhaling. Now close your eyes and imagine being present in the courtyard of Pilate's palace. The cold cobblestone rocks underneath you and the air is heavy with tension.

There's a crowd and you hear the jeers of the crowd echo around you. You see Roman guards enter the scene and they're leading Jesus to a pillar in the center of the courtyard. His hands are bound and his shoulders slump under the weight of what is about to happen. You hear the crowd jeer louder. His back is bare and the soldiers begin to prepare their whips. You take a step closer, watching as his first lash strikes his flesh.

The sound is sharp, cutting through the air, and you see him flinch in pain. Blood begins to drip down his back, and each strike seems more brutal than the last. The sound of the whip echoes in your heart. And you want to look away, but something keeps your gaze fixed on him, and he meets your eyes for a moment before another lash strikes. Why is he enduring this? What does his gaze say to you? You hear the soldiers mocking him, laughing as they inflict pain.

Insulting him, but Jesus remains silent. There's no anger in his eyes, just deep humility and love. Love for you. Kneel beside him and place your hand on the ground near where he stands. What do you feel in this moment? What does Jesus suffering stir in your heart? Let us pray.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell, and on the third day, he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. For the intentions of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, and all the priests. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. For an increase in faith, hope, and love. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
