The Paradox here is clearly seen-Eli is a great dad to Samuel but a bad dad to Hophni & Phinehas. He overlooked their excesses-he warned but we didn’t set up structure. Training starts from childhood. His sons had no fear of God. Samuel turned out to be an amazing prophet because Eli taught him to discern the voice of God early.
Abraham comes to mind as a successful dad . 17-19 Then God said, “Shall I keep back from Abraham what I’m about to do? Yes, I’ve settled on him as the one to train his children and future family to observe God’s way of life, live kindly and generously and fairly, so that God can complete in Abraham what he promised him.”
