Hi everyone! My name is Asma and today I would like to talk about my ESL journey to Canada. First of all, I was born in Somaliland, a country which is located in the Horn of Africa. The first time that I came to Canada was 2005 and I've been in Canada for two years. after that. I took SK and JK right away to kindergarten and I went back home right away. At home we used to speak and communicate in Somali language. I was really good at schooling back home.

I used to go to Canada and it's in all the courses that I took. One of the days, my dad told me that he would take me to Canada to start university, since all universities in Somaliland were not that good. I felt really sad when I heard that and I imagined leaving behind the destination that I grew up, leaving my friends and some of my family.

Apart from that, my English was broken and I was wondering how can I communicate with the people that would have the same language. I felt really nervous, but my family was always there for me. They motivated me to keep going towards my God and to continue to persevere. I would like to mention in back home school is compulsory.

to the age of 15 in every province in Somaliland. In some provinces, early living exemptions can be guaranteed under certain circumstances at 14. Apart from that, a lot of emphasis was placed on listening and writing. where teachers used to read and explain the lesson and students used to make their own notes. This helped me to improve focus and attention to detail. It also helped me to improve organization skills. Turning on how you came to Canada

in August 21, 2018. The trip was long and exhausted, but I enjoyed the service and solidarity at the plane. I felt happy and excited when I first arrived at the airport, fleshing back my childhood memories and remembering the two years that I spent in Canada. When I came to Canada, I only knew a few basic words. As I said, I was so nervous and shy on my first day of school. I remember that my first period was math advanced functions. This made me more nervous.

because all the students were speaking English fluently. But my second video was ESLCO and I was okay because all the students were English learners. I always encourage myself and try my best. My role of confidence was built by daily accomplishments. Returning to my topic, as an English learner, I think I have improved quite and learned numerous vocabularies. For example, one day I was watching an English movie and I understood all the words that actors were saying.

Apart from that, I still need to improve writing essays and reading novels. It's important for me to improve on these things in order to learn English and able to graduate with a good mark. Furthermore, my last ESL course was easy and busy, and I did a lot of freedom and writing paragraphs. I would like to mention that I'm going to take English 2D next year.

I'm so excited finishing the ESL course. Yay! The most challenging thing that I will face will be presenting in front of the students and pronouncing words correctly. I will spend more time practicing to present in public and watch English movies to improve my pronunciation skills. To go back to my topic, my goal is to speak and understand English as a native Canadian person. I also want to go to university and take medicine. when I finish high school next year.

Since my program needs effective English, I have to improve reading, writing, and speaking English by practicing writing essays daily, listening to English songs, and communicating with native speakers. In order to afford my English to be regressed, I have to communicate with English and stay in Canada for many years. That's my ESL journey to Canada. Thank you so much for listening.
