Hello and welcome to my channel. My name is Jurieli and for those who don't know me I teach English on this channel and also on Instagram. At O Segredo da Fluência, now I know. The title is in Portuguese, so I'll leave you my information in the description box down below. In today's video, I would like to teach you about adverbs. Adverbs in English. So first of all, what are adverbs? Adverbs are modifiers. We call them modifiers. They will modify an adjective, an adverb, or a verb.
They will tell you information about your verb. Mainly your verb. That's the most common use of an adverb. So are words that modify. additives adverbs and verbs but verbs are the main category of words that they modify usually they answer the questions how where in what manner in what extent So they give you more information about the action performed. So for example,
which is me, is the subject. Ate is our verb and quickly is our adverb because it's telling you in what manner did Rielly eat. So she ate quickly, right? I was...
So it tells you more information about my action. It tells you how I was eating. Sometimes you can get confused because you may ask, well, should I use an adjective or an adverb? In this phrase, it this word is an additive or an adverb and i have a tip for you there so let's see for example this phrase right here drieli ate an extremely red apple drieli again is the subject ate is our verb extremely would be our adverb.
Red would be our additive and apple our object, the one that's receiving the action. So extremely in this case it is our adverb and is telling you information about how red the apple is.
extremely red bright red so it's telling information about the color red now if you take out the extremely word we have drieli ate a red apple red in this case is describing apple right so because it's describing the apple describing a noun it is our additive so remember additive only describes nouns and adverbs describe verbs adjectives and other adverbs
Also, if you, you know, still questioning yourself, is this an adverb or an additive, I have another trick for you. So let's see the same example. Now, if you take extremely the sentence... Still makes sense. It makes sense. So, extremely was our adverb. Because when we took it out, our phrase still made sense. But now, let's take red out. That doesn't make sense. Extremely Apple. What is that? So extremely
is our adverb and then red is our additive. Does that make sense to you? It is easy to spot adverbs in a sentence sometimes because they usually end in ly.
extremely quickly beautifully right so they end in well but not always sometimes because it tells you information of where how and when we have words that don't end in well i but are adverse such as i am here in my house here is telling you where so here it's an adverb i am very angry i am very angry very is telling information about how angry i am So very doesn't end in well I. But it still is an adverb. She ran really fast.
So she ran fast. Makes sense, right? So really is our adverb. And also it's telling you how fast I was running. Really fast. I was not only fast, but I was... super super fast I was really fast so it's telling you more information what extent in what manner how using adverbs may enrich your speech and also your writing but don't overuse it use it with moderation and if you did like this video don't forget to thumbs up
