Okay , so we decided that we're going to do our favorite video game soundtracks . Now , before we get started , I personally picked video games that had legacy , the ones that soundtracks , like I remember , that stick out the most and they transcend over years .
For me , you know , like specific beats of gameplay and they transcend over years for me , you know , like specific beats of gameplay and sometimes even like recreations throughout the iterations of the series of video games that stick with it too . So what were your deciding factors , mitch ?
Mostly I picked games soundtracks that had like a that made you feel something while you were playing , whether it was intimidation from like a boss or , like you know , a sense of accomplishment as you're doing stuff .

I mean I chose total nostalgia factor to stuff . I remember playing games for 20-something years , whereas I could hear it and immediately go . Okay , I'm sitting in my room , I'm on the edge of my bed . I my nintendo 64 controller in my hand .
I got my xbox controller yeah , it was a simpler time . That's definitely one of my deciding factors . But uh , yeah , all right . Well , let's get started . Mitch , what is your first song ?

I gotta get into it . It's worth the epic . They had tons of them . Elden Ring was one of those games where the music was amazing , but you knew how much crap you were in on the music . Oh yeah , if I was just listening to just some background music , I was like all right , we're probably fine .
And then , like once it got like a little more intense , it's like all right , this is a tough boss when they're chanting in Latin that's when you know you're screwed here I got one other example from Elden Ring .
All right , when this happened you knew you were in trouble .
You died oh yeah , that's a big old dragon coming out of there .
Whenever you hear this , you know the dragon .
When the sky turns to lightning and there's just flames .
Why is it so quiet at first and then it's like ? That was a good game .
Well , that was a great moment because we beat the two-headed dragon with some rando who just kept showing up there yeah , I can't remember his name , but he like showed up with like this giant hammer , annihilated like half the dragon's health , yeah , and we were just like I didn't do anything .
Yeah , elder Ring's a weird game because it's like the hardest game ever .
But the community in . It is so , like you know , willing to help out .
Everybody had each other's back , whereas like call it to the dmc you can't trust the dichotomy of gamers out there .
It's like , yeah , like elden ring was that meme ? Yeah , we're like the dudes , like level one and like that level 99 guy's massive and he's like blocking the arrows .

So mine want to start with my number three and then work my way in . Okay , so my number three is going to be halo 2 . Let's hear it now . This isn't the main theme . I owned this soundtrack on cd . I did too . I remember actually listening to it one day . I was like cleaning my room , my mom just like knocks on the door but she's like what do you ?

I was like is that the game with the guy the chief ? And I was like yes .
Yeah , I remember my dad . He like came in and he was like what movie are you watching ? I'm Video games . Have music like this , huh yeah .
I mean , this was like full-on orchestra and Halo 2 had Breaking Benjamin did some of the stuff .
Breaking Benjamin . Incubus Hoobastank did some stuff . Okay , good for them , hoobastank . It's probably the best thing they've ever done in their life . They got to be part of Halo 2 .
One of the greatest Xbox games of all time .
I mean it was genius , it it was genius , it was the biggest game at that time . And then they got the biggest bands involved , probably because they were all Halo fans themselves .
This is the good old days of Bungie , because we already had Combat Evolved , which is awesome . It had a great soundtrack in its own right . And then this was just like they're looking at the dial and they go we're going to 11 . It's like crank this boy up .
And Halo always had a great range . It had its epic get you motivated music .
It had a happy kind of tone , and then there'd be a sad , and then there'd be awesome , and then there'd be oh crap , we're screwed .
So , Alright , kill your Bluetooth . I'm going to put mine on .

This song kind of hits it perfect because the game's about some kid stuck on an island that just was ready for adventure .
He doesn't know he's about to get involved in his whole like journeys ahead of him stuff like that um you know , just like one of the first orchestrated soundtracks I've ever heard for a video game in the actual game . Really well done so . Ikaru utada I really like this is the composer for uh most of the soundtrack , and this is one of my favorites .

All right , my second game I have here is from the Batman Arkham games . Go ahead , it's playing . Oh is it ? It just builds in Batman From Arkham City .
Sounds very Hans Zimmer , it sounds like straight from the movie .
This was a soundtrack that was made specifically for the game , and then they actually made a CD for it also .
I'm just making a Batman like a cd for it also .
I'm just like batman , but it kind of has that rising tone like the hans emerald stuff from like the dark knight and all that stuff . Yeah , there it is . It gives you that that feel like yo , you're accomplishing something .
You're batman , you're gonna fight crime , you're gonna stop the back this dude's gonna beat the snot out of you does feel very batman-y it gives you that kind of that sense of urgency in the tones to it , like you know , like you're racing to stop a bomb or something like that which this is city .

If you haven't played it by now , I'm going to spoil it anyways . Where the Joker dies , yeah .

Great soundtrack .
The whole game had an awesome sound , but this is like the iconic part I've never played this Shadows of the Empire .
No , what's wild is it sounds like this from a 64 cartridge . Yes , in fact , they were able to emulate that music so well and have its own orchestra . That might have been one of the first games to have its own orchestra .
I think I remember reading about it . I think it was like the second or third game that did it Wow . But the game starts . You know , it's got the as you go through and then it gets to like the title screen where it says like it's like flipping at you and it stops and goes Shadows of the Empire , and then that music is what keys up .
But that was such a fantastic game and such a great soundtrack going through , because the soundtrack for the title screen , which they do a lot , was awesome . The soundtrack when you're on Ord Mantell was great . When you're on a Gaul spaceport fighting Boba Fett was awesome . The Zizzer's Palace soundtrack was really cool .
The Boba Fett boss battle was really good .
And then the when you go to Skyhook base . That had an awesome soundtrack .
Yeah , that final boss kind of boss battle feel for Skyhook was really good .
I can't believe you never played Shadows of the Empire . That's my favorite Star Wars game .
I didn't have it in 64 .
I will play Shadows of the Empire . Over any of the Star Wars games that have come out in the last 20 years , it's a Star Wars game in a league of its own .
It's not a Star Wars game that's been able to match it yet for sure .
Hands down I went from nintendo to playstation 1 , so this is nintendo 64 .
You didn't , you didn't have nintendo 64 yeah okay all right .
So my next game series is mass effect and this is by far the best , best theme for mass effect , and let me explain why . I'll go ahead and get it going . But this is the third game .
All right , and and what's so cool is like when the first Mass Effect came out , it didn't do very well and then it just like did amazing because of GameStop it was selling it for like $5 . And everybody was like all right , I just need a new Xbox game , xbox 360 game . You know it just came out . They bought that .
Their game still skyrocketed , got enough for bioware to go ahead and commission mass effect 2 . Mass effect 2 knocked it out of the park . They were on top with this novel idea for an rpg sci-fi first person shooter . Nobody's ever really done anything like that . At least that's successful . So they're like on top of the world .
Right now they get a pretty much an unlimited budget to do mass effect 3 . Whether you like mass Effect 3 or not , you know I do the ending had left a little bit to be desired , but it's still a great game . But the soundtrack that they invested into the third game one of the best soundtracks definitely lived up to the expectation .
The whole game series has this synth sci-fi feel to it , but these serious or controlled feeling parts that they have great orchestras , so super into it . All right , mitch , what about you ?
Well , my number one . It's going to raise the tempo a little bit from that sad slow . All right , go ahead . Oops , I went to the wrong thing .
Oh , of course it did .
How dare it do that ?
The original , well , I'll say the original the Ninja Turtles 2 from NES , the 8-bit soundtrack , the very first level .
That's very 8-bit .
There's no reason that NES games should have songs this good .
It's a good song .
Because you just play the whole first level and this song just plays the entire time as the city , or as like the house , is burning down around you and you're fighting foot soldiers all the way through the level .
That is a pretty like happening kind of 8-bit soundtrack . I don't make them like that anymore . Well , there is this is like called lo-fi music . It's basically pixelated music nowadays and some of it's really good but I just .
I played this game so many times and this is the first levels I heard this all the time .
I like games that can kind of incorporate somehow like a theme and you can kind of still feel the turtles theme . Yeah , in there it's like buried but it kind of peeks out every once in a while great , great gaming companies that you know do that . Nintendo's awesome with that .
Yeah , I had to choose between the original Ninja Turtles and NES , the second one and the third . The second one's the one I played the most . I always love this little theme yeah .
It is fun . It's a fun game , tam Well , my number one was it's not that loud . I don't know what this is , what Star Fox 64 .

This is the level where that giant box shit .

And then , like you go on the loading screen and it's just like you know , andross is taking over the Lylat system . You know , star Fox , you're our only hope , and it's got like the asteroids like getting blown up and the huge ship comes through .

You knew Zelda was going to show up .
And this is the greatest soundtrack in human history , and I'll explain why .

The reason why it is so good is it has 35 years of seasoning into it .
It's 35 years old . That's why it's better than everything you ever liked .
No because it has such an iconic theme , okay , that they're able to transcribe it to match all the generations , and here's the most recent incarnation of it . That makes it just like when you hear your childhood composed so well .

And the adventures are always like eldritch , cultish kind of temples that you have to investigate and discover and solve all the puzzles , beat the bad guy , get the devices , save the princess and stuff like that and the adventures just crescendo out of control .
