Hello and welcome to Wednesday’s Words with English with Languissimo® which will help you improve your vocabulary so that you can communicate better in English.
My name is Vanessa Rocket. I’m the founder and CEO of Languissimo®.
Today, I will quickly cover the difference between “vegetables” and “legumes”.
- “Vegetables” is a noun which is often in the plural. There are green vegetables such as green beans, asparagus, spinach, broccoli, celery, cabbage, etc.
There are other vegetables like carrots, turnips, and many more.
You can cook vegetable broth or vegetable pies.
Vegetables can be bought frozen, canned or fresh. You decide.
- “Legumes” (which is the French word for “vegetables” – confusing isn’t it?) are beans, peas and lentils.
Both vegetables and legumes are essential to a healthy and balanced diet.
It is therefore recommended to eat several portions of vegetables each day.
Some Practice Questions
- Do you eat vegetables each day?
- What are your favorite legumes?
- Do you follow the recommended intake of vegetables from the food guides?
Ta da! That’s it for today! I hope you enjoyed this podcast. Subscribe to English with Languissimo®, practice, take care and have a great Wednesday! Big hugs 😊
