The Voice of Champions (la voix des champions)
The Montral Alouettes won the 110th Grey Cup (the trophy of the Canadian Championship Football Game). They defeated the Bombers from Winnipeg 28 to 24. They had not won since 2010. What an incredible victory! Long live the Alouettes!
The Voice of Black Friday (la voix du vendredi fou)
Today was one of the best sales days of the year: Black Friday. The day after Thanksgiving in the United States, you can buy a ton of items at very discounted prices. I personally didn’t have time to go shopping. I worked non-stop from 5:30 am to 4 pm. Even if I had had time to do so, I would not have bought anything. I’ve got everything I need.
Some Study Points
- “They had not won” is the plu-perfect of “to win” (gagner).
- “Sale” means in this context “solde”. It is the noun of the verb “to sell” (vendre). It is often used in the expressions “for sale” (à vendre) and “on sale” (en solde/en vente).
- “Even if/even though” means “même si”. “Even though” is a synonym.
- In the sentence “I’ve got everything I need” (j’ai tout ce qu’il me faut) I’ve is the contraction of “I have”.
Please note that the relative pronoun “that” could be added in the sentence: “I’ve got everything that I need”. Both sentences have the same meaning but in spoken English, “that” disappears.
