Transcript

Hello and welcome to English with Languissimo®, the podcast in English which will help you reach your goals so that you can lead a better life and career.

My name is Vanessa. I’m the founder and CEO of Languissimo®.

Today, I will cover the difference between “sometime” (1 word and 2 words) and “sometimes” following a special request from one of our students.

-          “Sometime” (1 word and no “s” at the end) is translated in French with “un jour”. “I would like to fly to Asia sometime” (j’aimerais aller en Asie un jour”).

“Someday” and “one day” are common synonyms.

-          “Some time” (2 words and no “s” at the end) is translated in French with “du temps”. You use it in the expression “give yourself some time” (laisse-toi du temps) or with the verb “to take”. For example, “it takes some time to become wealthy” (cela prend du temps de devenir très riche).

-          “Sometimes” (1 word and you pronounce the “s” at the end) is translated in French with “parfois” or “quelquefois/quelques fois”. “I sometimes go to the movies” (je vais quelquefois au cinéma). Please note that “sometimes” is placed between the subject and the verb in English whereras in French it is after the verb.

Some practice questions

-          What action do you think takes some time to do?

-          What do you sometimes do?

-          What will you do sometime?

Ta da! That’s it for today! I hope you enjoyed this podcast. Subscribe to English with Languissimo®, practice, take care and talk to you soon! Big hugs 😊
