Hello and welcome to English with Languissimo®, the podcast in English where I share stories of the highlights of my week to inspire you to live a full life.
My name is Vanessa. I’m the founder and CEO of Languissimo®.
Let’s go!
The Voice of the Unexpected (la voix de l’imprévu)
In the second chapter of my book, I’m going to talk about how I made it to the Olympics. To be able to share this crazy adventure, I’ve decided to type the journal that I had written during that time. It was not planned but it reminds me of memories from more than 20 years ago. Fantastic!
The Voice of Financial Education (la voix de l’éducation financière)
It’s been a few months since prices went up: interest rates, food, gas, and so on. It’s obvious that we’re heading towards a severe recession. Did you know that it is during crises that, unfortunately, wealth is created, and the rich become richer and the poor poorer? Although I wasn’t personally affected by the 2008 world financial crisis, I realized how important it was that I became financially educated. I joined an investors’ group, I read immensely, I took investment classes and above all, I discovered the fascinating world of Warren Buffet and Robert Kiyosaki. I’ve been following their advice and strategies and since the beginning of the summer, I’ve been building my financial foundation. I want to be ready to invest when it’s going to go down.
Some Study Points
- “During” means “durant” or “pendant”.
- “Unexpected” and “not planned” are synonymous.
- “To remind someone of something” means “rappeler quelque chose à quelqu’un”.
- “Ago” means “il y a”. It is put after the number in English (more than 20 years ago) whereas in French, it is before (il y a plus de 20 ans).
- “It’s been….. since” means “cela fait…. que”. It is followed by the simple past in English.
- “How important it was” means “combien il était important”. Please note the word order in English compared to French.
- “I took” in this context means “j’ai suivi” but it usually means “j’ai pris”.
