Philippine military video footage shows one of the Chinese vessels sailing alongside the patrol ship while the other crossed in front of its path. The military describes the measure as threatening and provocative, saying it could have resulted in a misunderstanding that increased tensions and impacted regional stability. A spokesperson for China's Southern Theater Command has dismissed the claim, saying the shoal is China's inherent territory.
He says the Philippine vessel was attempting to intrude into Chinese territorial waters. He called on the Philippines to immediately stop its infringement, provocation, and distortion of the truth. Manila and Beijing have been locked in a long-standing dispute over the Scarborough Shoal. But it's unusual for warships from both countries to confront each other.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates says he'll give away virtually all of his wealth over the next 20 years to help vulnerable people.
In a statement released on Thursday, Gates said he intends to distribute more than $200 billion through his charitable foundation with plans to end its operation in 2045. He said the donations will be used to reduce the deaths of mothers and children due to malnutrition, to prevent infectious diseases and to combat poverty.
He noted that the United States, the United Kingdom, France and other countries around the world are cutting their aid budgets and no philanthropic organization can make up the gulf in funding. In February, Gates was interviewed by the Associated Press. The need, of course, is far greater than what we can do, but we'll be showing that we're doing the most we can and give a lot of predictability to the field.

Japan's Trade Minister Muto Yoji says his officials will carefully assess the deal the US struck with the UK. We have to see if there are some areas that can be useful in our talks with the United States. We want to get this done as soon as possible.

And the European Union's trade chief has indicated that the bloc is interested in a key trade pact centered on the Asia-Pacific region to counter steep tariffs announced by the U.S.

Because together, if it would work together, it would represent almost 30% of the global trade. So I think that that's clearly one very important track for us.

The EU is apparently aiming to strengthen trade ties with countries other than the United States. He noted that the US accounts for only 13% of world trade. the EU has sought to solve tariff issues with Washington through negotiations. He said it is extremely regrettable that didn't happen. We are also preparing the challenge in the World Trade Organization.
against the U.S. tariffs. So we would use these measures and challenge the WTO as steps to protect the European economy and European businesses.
