012 – The Mighty Tongue
Episode description
Episode 012 – The Mighty Tongue
Originally recorded: Summer 2006
This episode is one of the most personal and convicting I recorded in the early days of this podcast.
I reflect on the power of the tongue—how it can be a rudder, a spark, a flame, or a dagger. I read from James 3, share a bit about criticism I had recently received, and get honest about my own history of using truth as a shield… and sometimes a sword.
You’ll hear me wrestle with:
- The temptation to correct rather than connect
- How “truth without love” turns into noise
- The spiritual damage done by careless speech
- Why criticism without compassion is always misaligned
- A few hard memories from my early evangelistic zeal
And I close the episode with a song that says what I couldn’t quite articulate at the time:
“Sometimes… it’s better to say nothing and turn the other cheek.”
✨ What I Believed ThenI believed the Bible was crystal clear on the power of speech—and that Christians had a deep responsibility to speak truth with gentleness and respect.
I believed conviction without compassion was a misuse of the Gospel.
And I believed, even then, that if my words weren’t led by love… they weren’t led by God.
🌱 What I Believe NowI still believe words shape worlds.
But now I believe that vibration matters more than vocabulary.
I don’t speak just to be correct.
I speak when my inner frequency is aligned with love.
I no longer critique out of duty.
I reflect in spaciousness—and trust the Spirit to guide others just as She guides me.
My words are no longer tools of persuasion.
They are frequencies of permission.
For others to be.
To question.
To awaken.
To remember who they are.
🔥 Why I’m Leaving This Episode in the FeedBecause I was doing the work.
Because I wasn’t preaching—I was transforming.
Because I want you to hear what it sounds like mid-evolution.
And because taming the tongue was never the goal.
The goal… is to speak from the heart that’s been made whole.
