online forums. Ethan Malik, a professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, expressed his impressions on social media, stating no one knows who made it or what it is. But I have been playing with it a little and it appears to be in the same rough ability level as GPT 4. This acknowledgement places GPT 2 chat bot among the elite ranks of AI models, giving the comparison to one of the most advanced systems available.
However, the intrigue surrounding the model deepened when it suddenly became inaccessible, and by Tuesday afternoon a notice on the Lim Sys Org website announced that the GP2 chat bot was currently unavailable. The site's policy page explained that AI models could be withdrawn at any time by their providers, especially after achieving a certain number of community approvals. The disappearance of the GPT 2 chat bot did not quell the
fervor online. Instead, it amplify the curiosity and debates within digital communities. Users on X shared remarkable accounts of the chat bot's capabilities, including coding a nearly perfect replica of the mobile game Flappy Bird, solving A challenging international Math Olympiad problem on its first attempt.
Now, in response to the growing speculation about the chat bot's origins, Sam Altman, CEO of Open AI, and other industry executives added to the discussions with cryptic tweets, which only fueled further debate among people online.
Many pondered whether giants like Open AI, Google or Anthropic were behind this mysterious AI, and the policy of Lemsis Org allows for the anonymous testing of AI models by their developers prior to a public release, suggesting the GPT 2 chatbot could have been a trial run by a major player in the AI industry. Now this led to widespread belief that the model was a secretive project by a renowned
developer. LM Sysorg elaborated on this, testing possibilities via social media, clarifying their process for introducing new models to their platform, they said. Just to clarify, following our policy, we've partnered with several model developers to bring their new models to our platform for community preview testing, they stated, indicating that such models are not added to official rankings until
they're publicly released. And despite the company's policies, the sudden vanishing of the GPT 2 chat bot left many questions unanswered. Gizmodo reported that their preliminary test showed the chat bot's performance was on par with other leading AI models like those from Anthropic and Open AI capable of executing complex tasks and displaying advanced reasoning abilities. And we found that GPT 2 chat bot could uniquely solve a logic puzzle that other leading models
struggled with. This discovery pointed to the models distinctive capabilities, suggesting it could handle tasks that were previously challenging for similar AI systems. Now, the broader AI community is abuzz with anticipation as rumors about Open AI's next development, possibly the GPT 5, gathered momentum. Such a release would represent a major advance in AI technology, according to Altman, who hinted that the new model would surpass its predecessor significantly.
And in the meantime, the speculation surrounding GPT 2 chat bot continues to drive discussions. But the pace of innovation in AI tech. With each new model release, expectations are set higher and the capabilities of these systems expand further, reflecting significant advancements in the field.
