Episode description

Dr Ray, Dr Catherine and Dr Ailie join Dr Shane in the studio. In news, how dandelion seeds fly; evolution of smell and navigation. First guest is Cornelia Landersdorfer, Ph.D., Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Monash University. Up to three awards of $25,000 each will be made each year to Australian female researchers for the Georgina Sweet Award for Women in Quantitative Biomedical Science who demonstrate excellence in the area of quantitative biomedical science.

Second guest 2 is Dr Kylie Quinn, Research Fellow, Prof Nicole La Gruta's lab at Monash University. Killer or ""CD8"" cell immune responses are crucial for control of intracellular infections and cancer, as they can directly kill virally infected and cancerous cells. Unfortunately, our ability to generate CD8 T cell responses declines substantially with age and this contributes to higher rates of viral infections and cancers in the elderly.
