Intro / Opening

What's up guys, Trevor here with eCommerce Paradise, and today I wanted to make you aware of something that's really important on your Shopify store, if you have a Shopify store.

Checkout Strategies Explained

That is the difference between a one-page and a three-page checkout. So I believe it was a couple years ago, Shopify made a big change to their checkout where you can choose just a one-page checkout, and most people decided to change to it, and then for some reason or another, they kind of made the change permanent for all stores, and then they didn't allow people to change back for a while.

And the difference is the main difference obviously is most of the steps that you have to go through instead of having to go through three different pages to get that done you just go through one entire page and then you hit submit at the bottom and obviously that changes the way that you collect your information for each of those you know things so that you can send abandoned checkout emails so with that change obviously people aren't going to be able to you know capture email addresses

and names and things like that until the purchase is actually made because that's when you click the button. So with the three-page checkout, you enter the contact information first, then you go to shipping, and then you go to payment. And that way, since they enter their contact info first, the people that are buying from your store, they're more focused, and they enter their contact info first.

And then if they, for some reason, drop out, decide not to buy, you have their contact info to follow up with through the abandoned checkout sequence in your Shopify store email marketing, which is either through Quavio or Shopify email or whatever. So when they made that change, At first, I thought it was a good thing because back in the day, I was using WooCommerce, and WooCommerce always has a one-page checkout feature. And I think that's why they made that change too, is just because.

And I always thought it was so easy, but I never thought about the idea that, well, one of the main reasons why you'd want to have a three-page sequence is so that you can capture email addresses. The one thing that when I first saw it is through ClickFunnels, because ClickFunnels always has a thing where when you go to buy something, you just enter your name and email first, and then after that, you submit your payment info.

And that way, that allows them to capture your contact info so they can follow up with you to close that purchase later. And so when Shopify started doing that one page, I thought it was maybe a big good idea. But then, you know, later on, a friend clued me into the reason why it wouldn't be a good idea. And then I realized, oh, that's why, you know, Shopify has been quite difficult to do for the past couple of years. Since 2022, a lot of people have had problems just because of that one little

detail. And it's kind of a big detail. It's changing the checkout. So now you can change back.

The Importance of Contact Information

They finally added the feature. And I've changed my stores back, and they're doing a bit better. So you are not going to find it in the Shopify settings, though. You have to go into your theme settings, and you have to have a theme that's updated to their new web or Shopify, whatever it is, 1.0 experience. In the theme settings and the checkout settings, you'll be able to choose between a three-page checkout or a one-page checkout.

Benefits of Three-Page Checkout

And I would recommend doing a three-page just because that keeps people focused on one thing at a time. Their contact info first, the shipping info next, which the shipping page usually for most stores that are doing the following the way I do it is you're just offering free shipping on everything. So if anything, the shipping page is more of an accelerator page where you give somebody a good feeling because you're giving them free shipping.

And you make them, you say fast and free shipping, lower 48 USA, that kind of thing. And then a certain amount of days that it's expected. Most of my stores now are somewhere between 4 and 12 business days for delivery. And then, of course, customized products are separate or custom-made orders and things like that. But yeah, anyway, so once they get to the payment, they already have entered their contact info.

Everything's super easy for them. all they have to do now is just put their credit card in and hit pay or, you know, choose their financing provider or choose PayPal and pay. So one thing at a time, people have short attention spans. So it's like entering too much in one like form. It kind of is too much for people sometimes.

Conclusion and Final Thoughts

So I think it's better to use the three-page checkout sequence. So I'd recommend doing it. Definitely check it out. If you have a Shopify store, consider, you know, keeping on three-page checkout if you, you know, have it. And if you have it on one page, definitely change it.
